Speaker 1 (00:00):
Rugby coverage on the Country Sport.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Breakfast is proudly brought to you by Access Solutions, elevating
you and your business to a higher level.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
George Ford for the truckle, for the truckle, it's away,
It is away when I Traller Tuckingham.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
There we go in New Zealand edging England twenty four
to twenty two. As you heard on commentary on gold
Sport on Sunday morning, New Zealand Time, George Ford's missed
drop goal sealed the result, which was earned after the
visitor's erased an eight point deficit with fifteen minutes to play.
Damien McKenzie kicked a penalty to get the All Blacks

(00:41):
within five before kicking a match winning sideline conversion that
was a cracker in the seventy seventh minute when Mark
Talea surged over Talire actually scored twice in the match.
Will Jordan dotting down with a couple of three tries
as well to one victory over of the English side,
who kicked five penalties and a runaway try, joining us.
I think he's probably just about come back down to

(01:01):
Worth now. The man that called the game on goldsmith
Sport Elliott Smith Morning.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Elliott, Morning, BK. You maybe not my cleanest bit of
commentary or but hopefully the excitement was conveyed. Yeah, the
excitement levels, you know, just simmering down now twenty four
hours or so on from full time. That was some
Test match that played out before our eyes at Twickenham,
and you know, the All Blacks could very well have

(01:26):
been on the other side of ledger But you take
the wins, don't you.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah? Absolutely. I mean watching back at home frustrating on
our level with the All Blacks almost beating themselves with
the ill discipline off the ball tackles in a number
of occasions. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Absolutely. And look this was a theme of the game
and England were clearly putting some dummy runners or questionable
runners in the mix in the line and that New
Zealand were committing to the tackle and they were running
some really really narrow lines that forced the All Blacks
into defensive decisions and that's where a lot of those

(02:04):
tackles without the ball came from during the game. But
the All Blacks just couldn't seem to find a solution.
That was how England wanted to attack and use the
ball and the All Blacks struggled to come up with
a formula to try and shut it down, and that's
where a lot of the penalties came from during the
game and whether it was at halftime or whenever, it
was that the coaches just couldn't come up with the

(02:25):
right solution. It got better as the game went on
as players got tired, and perhaps the England defense attack
went a little bit deeper in terms of their carries.
But initie for the All Blacks there because Ireland will
probably see that and go this is a shape that
we can replicate and force the All Blacks into penalties
this coming Saturday morning. At one point the penalty count

(02:47):
was at eleven to two against the All Blacks. That
got back to eleven seven by the end with a
string of scrum penalties and breakdown penalties at the end.
But discipline certainly something that needs to be fixed heading
into this test in Dublin.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
How good to see the Black bench come on and
make such a difference, particularly in the scrum.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Oh big time. Absolutely, Look, I you know tomoighty Williams
just couldn't get going. Pincked a couple of times at
scrum time and once that ideas and the referees heads
of he's decided who's doing the right thing at scrum
time and who's doing the wrong thing at scrum time.
It becomes very very hard to fix that when you're
a player on the park. But you change those players,

(03:25):
bring on you faces, the scrummering sets a little bit.
Both teams always changed their front rows and bringing on
Pastaly or Tossi to give that match up on the
English side of things, I thought was superb. Apatong of Fussi,
one of the unsaying heroes of this All Blacks environment
as well. Scrummage really powerfully and the scrum there had
been under pressure and not really getting the acendency that

(03:47):
they wanted during this test match, all of a sudden
became a weapon for them in the fifteen minutes and
set up that platform that got them some go forward ball,
got them some entries into the twenty two that they've
been desperately searching for and had an had in the
sort of first twenty five minutes of the second spell.
So that bench worked out exactly has you want, and
I think you've got to not only the Scrummages up front,

(04:09):
but Patrick Dooplotto made an impact coming on. I thought
he was excellent tacking on the line. Cam Roygard added
his sniper's ball delivery as well. If you go back
and watch that charge down or sorry, the George Ford
dropped goal that he attempted right at the end, cam
Royguard running a line directly at him is key in
that and making sure that George four can't get the

(04:30):
clean drop goal away that he wants, So he was
utterly vital. Then Damien McKenzie with his goal kicking as well,
I thought was superb. So you know, maybe the only
one that you want to put a we squiggle against
is Anton Lenett Brown and you know that was a
frustrating afternoon out for Anton Lenet Brown. Last we've heard
from the All Blacks nothing on that potential sighting for

(04:52):
foul play for that hit late in the game. So
from an All Blacks perspective, hopefully that stays the same.
And then maybe a souffer Old Miller as well to
criticize too much. The line out didn't quite fire throughout
the game. Couple of errant throws from ol Moore, but
on the other side, big defensive shift from him and
with ball in hand, just that core skill of the

(05:13):
lineout throwing continues to be an issue, but seventy five
minutes shift from ol Moore, I think, on the balance
of it pretty good performance.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Have we finally found the number six we're looking for
in Wallace Stiti after Jerome Caino left.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
I think we might have, honestly, and look, maybe it's
not as long term position, and maybe there's a change
with ardide, maybe the open side at some point, I
don't know, but what's become abundantly clear is that Wallace
Titi has to be in the run on fifteen for
the first choice All Black side. And I'm struggling to
think of an All Blacks rookie that has made such

(05:48):
an impact in a short space of time. You know,
I think you don't want to put too many plaudits
on the young man. But at the same time, he
speaking to him last week and again postmatch, he is
a level headed young player that doesn't get too high
or too low with his performances. Man of the match
at twicking Them yesterday just exceptional his ball carrying the

(06:09):
offload for Mark Dhalaire. His defensive qualities as well make
some really good reads in the defensive line as well
on both sides of the ball. He is excellent. I
was trying to think earlier when knowing I was chatting
and I'm sure Wallace was going to come up, but
trying to think of all Blacks that have made an
impact in such a short space of time. You know,
I go back to Richie mccawa in two thousand and one,
he was man of the match against Ireland on Depoo

(06:31):
and we know the career he had from that point onwards.
Aaron Smith took to test Ragby like a duck to water.
You know, other players that have drawn into the All
Blacks have taken a little bit longer as you expect
players to do to find their feet at Test level.
Wallace a Titi though, has come on and made every
post a winner and is having an absolute breakout season.
Can't say enough about what the way that and the

(06:53):
importance that he now has in this All Blacks team.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
A few injury concerns Cody Taylor, Body Barrett, what's the
the latest with them?

Speaker 2 (07:02):
He draw a line through both of them for this
weekend's BK. They won't be in the All Blacks mix
this weekend. It was always going to be a tough
ask given the six state turnaround, and they both got
previous histories of concussion. The HIA protocols are quite convoluted.
I was reading them before bed last night, you know,

(07:22):
very convoluted, and there is an essence could have potentially
maybe been a way for the All Blacks to have
cleared these players. But I think they've heard on the
side of caution and stood them down for this week,
which is the responsible thing to do. Man Cody Taylor
didn't even go down the tunnel for the assessment in
the end, and I think that pretty much tells you
all you need to know. So it leaves a hole

(07:43):
in the All Blacks. A sophoil mower will presumably start
against Island this week. George Bell will be elevated to
a spot on the bench and then they're going to
call someone over from the All Blacks fifteen. Yet to
be determined who that might be. They've got Bradley Slater
over there, Rody mccallist and Kurt Eckland, so one of
those three will join the All Blacks as a training

(08:05):
cover this week, and also Harry Plumber coming in from
the All Blacks fifteen. Reuben Love rejoining as was planned,
so a few extras coming into All Blacks camp this
week to pro vite the other injury as well, with
his knee issue not tracking too bad. But I just
wonder whether they might look at potentially giving Patrick Deplot

(08:26):
to the start this week again. Signed anyway, one of the.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Best teams in the world, Ireland, lots of storylines already.
How do you think that one's going to go?

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Oh? Absolutely, look, it's going to be a cracker. I've
been in Dublin for a few hours now and already
seen plenty of Irish shirts around him. What are we
six days out? Five days out from the game? I
think the Irish public would certainly have watched that game
with interest last night. Some good news for Ireland today
as well. Peter o'mary. We know he's had some ding

(08:56):
dong battles of the All Blacks through the years, had
some words to say with them as well. He has
been cleared to play. Played in that fifteen All Backs
fifteen game against Munster, had forty minutes, then took a
plane last night and joined the Irish team who was
staying in Portugal, I should say for the first half
of the week. But already you go around Dublin. There's

(09:18):
banners up, there's a sense of re location. They're looking
forward to this rematch against the All Blacks and I
think everyone is looking forward to seeing how they match
up this year.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Ellie, thank you for joining us out in Dublin's first
city where the girls are so pretty well. We've talked
to you again before the Test.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Look forward to a Cheersbey Kame and going have.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
A Guinness on me.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
Wonderful city to visit, Elliott Smith and of course that
Test match live here and they just take a note
of the time because I think this is amazing. As
we alluded to, It's a Friday night Test match in Dublin,
Saturday morning, New Zealand time ten past nine kickoff. We'll
have commentary from nine on Gold Sport and iHeartRadio on
Saturday morning.
