Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the sports field to the shearing shed.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
It's the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold
Sport right with our farming weekly economic report from Farm
Advisors egg Safe, New Zealand Gym for lay Joint this morning.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Jim Hey, good morning, Brian.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
I guess out of the tron you'll be excited to
feld Days coming up again from Wednesday.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Absolutely, it's always a big week in Hamilton, and I
think it's getting back to normal a little bit after
the disruption of COVID for sort of a few years back.
And yeah, I think everybody's sort of feeling a little
bit relieved and not quite excited, I don't think, but
pretty happy about the fact that you know the field
Days will be back as a major part of the
thing of the calendar here and.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
The why Cat And I think you're probably urging your
clients to get along because often they get they see
new things as opportunities. It's sort of mixing and mingling
with like minded people, really, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
It certainly is, And I think it's very important for
them to get the staff along there as well as
the staff can see new sorts of things and they
look at different stuff from what the farmer looks at.
You know, the farm might be going along to buy
some big ticket items, whereas the staff will go along
and they'll just look at some of the new innovations.
I'll look at the yeah, some of the lesser things
at times, and yeah, bring some new ideas home. And

(01:12):
if they spend a little bit of time and talk
to some of the people about what's going on, yeah,
they can do a lot of good back into the
farming business.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Now, let's look at prices from this past week and
the GDT for start off dairy prices that remained nice
and positive, didn't it?

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Absolutely, Brian. The GDT lifted one point seven percent, which
was sort of quite a surprise. I didn't think it'd
go quite that much. I was hoping for it to
sort of be roundabout at least at least on the
positive side, but just sort of a point up. But yet,
the one point seven is pretty good. The battle was
up one point seven percent as well. The skim milk
powder was up three percent, and the whole milk powder

(01:50):
was up one point seven percent, which is really good.
And you know, Maracas come out with a pretty good
opening price as well for their milkers season, and the
farmers are still a little disappointed as we get around
to find that Vontira hasn't really quite got to the
point of putting an eight in front of it is
the midpoint yet, we'll.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Watch the space alrighty, rest of the schedules, how do
they end up for the week?

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Right, Well, we'll just quickly run through them, and there's
just a few minor into coompany changes and things that
are happening at the present time. But the eighteen kg
yxlam in the North Island is up to six dollars
twelve a kg and the South Island is sitting at
six dollars And if we think back a year ago Brian,
it was at seven dollars twenty nine, so it's down
quite a bit on what it was a year ago,

(02:33):
and that's quite some concern to the sheep industry people.
Our twenty one KGMX button is in the North Island
at two fifty and two dollars sixty in the South.
Our P two steer, the two seventy to two ninety
five kg stair is steady in the North at five
dollars fifty kg and five dollars thirty in the South Island.
The Boner Cow the one sixty to one ninety five
kg Boner is three sixty in the north. That's up

(02:55):
a little bit and is three sixty in the south.
The two seventy to two ninety five at Waite Range
Bull is five point fifty five in the north and
five twenty in the south. And of course our venison
a sixty kg stager steady at eight dollars sixty five
in the North and eight dollars seventy five in the South.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Bryan, I enjoyed reading your weekly rant this week because
it looks back actually eighty years ago sixth of June
the D Day, the D Day landing with the Allied forces.
Tell us more about why you wrote that rant.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Well, I did, because there's a bundle of things with it.
One of them is that D Day is probably one
of the biggest, the most important days in our modern history,
really because it was the day that the democracies really
over threw fascism and they pushed the Nazis back, and
it was a massive effort. And you know, we've seen
a little bit of it on the news this last week,

(03:45):
but I think it's much greater than what the news
has actually sort of made it out to be. It
was a combined effort the British, the Americans and the
Commonwealth groups that landed there in France and really did
a massive pushback to get rid of that fascism and
allow a freedom and a democracy to take place and
to continue in the world. And part of that then
fits into where we're at at the moment when we

(04:05):
hear the rhetoric coming through from Japati Marie of wanting
to take up arms and have their own sort of
government and all these bits and pieces of things, which
is not democracy. And I think we've got to make
sure we remember the D Day stuff and stand firm
and say, yep, we live in a democracy. We want
to retain it and that's where we are. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Freedom, That's absolutely right. Good article, he j. I'm nice
to catch up mate. Might catch you at Field days.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
You certainly could, Brian, And we'll just see what the
weather's like and it's going to be a big time.
And here I'll get down to the brand site of
if I get out there.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Good on you mate, Nice to see you, yeah, and
we're going to check in with the weather for Field
days with Philip Duncan after eight point thirty this morning
here on gold Sport
