Speaker 3 (00:11):
He's married to a Kiwi John Norman Morning John, Yeah, Hey,
good morning to b k.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
I hope you're will.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Still raining, is it? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (00:20):
It is still raining. It was my daughter's fifth birthday
yesterday and actually it was quite fitting. It was quite
sunny and hot and quite pleasant, quite summary. And then
today it's fifteen degrees and will be for the rest
of the week. So I've got no idea what's going
on with the weather, but there we go, there we go.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
All right, okay, well let's start with the Euros. Is
it your turn that gets underway this week?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
In hopes for England and Scotland, but fears of hooliganism are.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Again really.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yeah. I mean we spoke at haven't we have the
last few months or so about the hopes for the
England side. You know, they possessed some attacking threat. They've
they've they've they're going to the Euro's essentially that Marcus
Rashford and Jack Greeley to the players that have seen
them reach such dizzy heights of you know, finals and
(01:12):
semi finals and the like. But so yeah, there's there's
a lot of hope really that England's attacking threat is
going to cause real problems for the opposition. Scotland too
then really need to win one game in their group
to make it through to the knockout stages and and
that would be a success. So you know, plenty of excitement.
(01:34):
The first game is on Friday and it involves Scotland
against the hosts Germany and as a spectacle it's up
there with some of the very best sporting events that
you could possibly see. The problem is, you know, as
we know, the scourge of hooliganism is brought into sharp focus,
(01:55):
especially with European competitions where travel between countries is much
easier and where historically, you know, there has been troubles
between you know, most of the countries in Europe. They've
been at war at some point, most of them. And
there's there's England's first game is on Sunday night, there's
coming up against Serbia, and the reports coming out of
(02:17):
Germany as they're very concerned that five hundred ultra Serbian
fans have made it to the game. England always bring
a bit of trouble themselves and so unfortunately there's there's
fear that they could be troubled on the streets. When
you also throw into that, I'm not sure it would
have made the news in New Zealand, but there's been
big elections in France and in Germany this week. Both
(02:40):
have seen huge games for far right parties, and the
far right party in Germany is polling at twenty one percent.
So when you throw that into the mix and the
fact that we you know, it's still just coming out
of COVID, there's a lot of angst in Europe. There's
a real fear that hooliganism is in the rear its
(03:00):
head at more than one of the games in the
next four weeks or.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
So, we hope not.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
All right, Well, let's turn our attention to cricket now
and England at the T twenty World Cup. Just like
they did in the fifty over games. They're sinking badly,
but like the Black Caps, really we got off to
a very embarrassing start, didn't we.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Well yeah, I mean it could be that Pakistan, New
Zealand and England all failed to make it to the
Super eights. Now, Pakistan and England were in the final
the last time the T twenty World Cup was played,
and of course New Zealand have reached the semi finals
I think the last eight ICC events, so it'd be
a huge surprise if all three of them failed to
(03:40):
make it through. Pakistan lost badly to the United States
of America and then to India, the old foe, although
they did win today against Canada. New Zealand, as you
may mentioned, got absolutely steamroller by Afghanistan, such a heavy
defeat that net run rate. Unless they wal at West Indies,
(04:03):
I think they're almost certainly going to fail to make
the Super eights. And then England there for this game
was a washout against Scotland, although Scotland had the better
of the ten overs and they managed to play I
think we talked about that last week, and then they
got absolutely destroyed by Australia. And what that means is
after Scotland beat Amman comfortably, even if England win their
(04:28):
final two games against Namibia and Oman, which you'd expect
them to, they are going to be reliant essentially on
Australia doing them a favor against Scotland. Now such as
the vaguarity of this competition that by the time Australia
and Scotland play, but both teams will know exactly what
(04:52):
they both need to do to knock England out. So
let me just give you this as a scenario. Australia,
who are already qualified, rest three of their players. Scotland
hit one hundred and fifty right from the twenty overs.
Let's say Australia will go out to bat knowing that
(05:13):
as long as they don't beat Scotland too heavily i e.
Chase down that score in fifteen overs, they will still
win the game and they will knock England out. So
what would you do? I know what England do? So yeah,
England are in right in all sorts. They're going to
essentially possibly be hoping for a bit of luck to
(05:36):
go their way in terms of the weather and hoping
that Australia, of all teams do them a favor.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
I can't see that happening, all right. And has the
decision being made in on tin Hik's future at Old.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Trafford, No, No, it hasn't. And the reports coming out
from the Dutchman's camp is that he's not that happy
about the fact that you know, he's won the FA Cup,
he's gone off on holidays, come back and he's or
doesn't know if he's got a job. The what we
do know is is that Jim Ratcliffe and the management
at Manchester United are speaking to other managers. Thomas two
(06:13):
has been ruled out. It looks like marich to Pocheccino
isn't going to join the club, and of course we
know that Kieran McKenna decided to stay at Ipswich, so
the shortlist is shortening. But still we haven't actually heard
from anyone at Old Trafford about who's going to be
in charge next season. It's incredible, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Isn't it all right?
Speaker 2 (06:33):
John? You have Hopefully the sun will shine eventually for
you and we'll catch up again next week.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah. I look forward to take care BK.
