Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport
Quarter to seven Here on the Country Sport Breakfast. Well,
as you've heard in the Sports News or maybe you're
just waking up. Lu lu Son's Wimbledon singles journey from
the qualifiers to the quarterfinals is all over. She's been
beaten in three sets by will number thirty seven Dona Victic.

(00:22):
After the match, she fronted the media. Here are Lulu's
first thoughts on that match.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
It was a tough match. Donna played really well. She
picked it up in the second set. Obviously the third set,
I mean towards the end of the second and third
I had troubles physically with some cramps. But that's maybe
the only regret I have is I can keep up physically.
But she played better today and she deserves the one.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yeah, and the impact Lulu impact Lulu had tennis in
New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
I'm honestly just really happy to see that in New Zealand,
to be able to have people watch tennis more and
more and and to you know, grow tennis New Zealand
itself and and for also future generations as well. So

(01:19):
I'm super pumped that that that is happening and I
can't I can't wait for you know, to to to grow.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yeah, and memories is she going to take away from
from Winbledon?

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Even on the first day against John Tua, I was
I thought that court was huge and the people were
a lot but and so I really was like, oh
my god, this is such an amazing experience to play
on such a big court on the on your first day.
So I was just like super happy to be able

(01:56):
to get that experience and and play against such a
such a big player, such a great player as well.
But then I have played on tender and then I
was against Emma, and then I don't think I could
forget that. Definitely not. So I've had really great matches
here at Wimbledon, and and I think just the energy

(02:18):
from from you know, New Zealand fans and and other
fans as well, is such a such a surreal moment
for me that that I definitely won't forget.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Yeah, it's Lusan And what else was she? What other
meanings will she take away?

Speaker 2 (02:35):
I think the main one is just to you know,
keep fighting until until the end. Obviously through Quli's that's
really important. And even in man draw as well, and
and to just enjoy, you know, each match and and
enjoy tennis.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yeah, she probably takes away quite a nice handy weed
chick as well. But also there's another perch for getting
to the last date. They have the Last Eight Club
and she gets an invitation. She receives an invitation from
the All England Lawn Tennis Club and the life entitlements
are becoming a Last Eight member are pretty impressive really.

(03:16):
They include a photo pass to access the grounds every
day of competition at Wimbledon, a guest pass as well,
use of private hospitality suites and they're pretty poncey. The
daily match tickets for Center and Number one courts and
a cocktail party on the second Tuesday of the tournament.
And that's not bad for the rest of her life.

(03:36):
So even if she never gets to Wimbledon again, she
can just rock up for any Wimbledon tournament and just
free entry. Love it alrighty, So there we go. We've
enjoyed the journey along with Lulu here and thank you
for that amazing journey. Ten away from seven here on Goldsport. Also, Mark,
you've got an update on New Zealand under twenty rugby.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yes, so doin just quickly on Luluse. So she's going
to rise at least two number fifty three in the rankings.
I think she started at about one fortieth in this tournament,
so it's a huge jump about ninety positions and she's
guaranteed to whopping three hundred and seventy five thousand pounds
for that top eight finish, so I know about seven
hundred thousand dollars. Good on her. And yeah, yeah, it's

(04:21):
awesome stuff with the journey. It wasn't as I said, Yes,
they never thought I'd actually be alive to see a
key we make a singles quarterfinal at a tennis be
at male or female. But awesome stuff. Yeah. So Under
Twenties Rugby World Cup over in South Africa at the moment,
final round of the poll section of it. And gee,
I don't know if anybody's seen the weather that's been
hitting parts of South Africa at the moment. It is horrible.

(04:43):
There's a couple of games have been canceled Ireland and Australia.
They were supposed to play to see who was going
to be top of pool. See that was canceled at
the rugby ground Tendon to just purely a fully lake.
It was incredible sites. But the Baby All Blacks, I'm
going to call them news on under twenties. They have
got through paul Play undefeated day of Spain in the
torrential rain forty five thirteen to finish top of paul A.

(05:06):
Currently there's a rapper happening between South Africa and England
under twenties at twelve all through eighty minutes, so we
will just wait and see with the cancelations and all
the weather and whatnot, we'll see who we play in
the semi finals. But the Baby All Blacks New Zealand
under twenty so far three for three. They had that
cracking win over France last week where the lines judge

(05:27):
forgot who was well, forgot how to do their job.
They didn't think it went over, it went over? Did
it go over? Went upstairs? It went over? So we
hung on for a twenty seven twenty six win over
the three time defending champions France. So yeah, order to play
for we're in the semi finals. We haven't won this
since I think about twenty ten, twenty eleven, so it'd
be great to see the Baby All Blacks get this
one gone
