Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sport, the latest from the Land and just great rock.
It's the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on gold Sport,
your home of Live Commission. A long time.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Ago, way back, well, they want to drink while nothings
Along came the name Wonderful. It's time to talk beer
with a man who knows his way around a beer barrel.
He's written a number of books and he puts out

(00:34):
the specialist beer magazine called The Pursuit of Happiness. Michael
Donaldson joins us. Morning, Michael, Morning, Brian, how we stay
very well? Thank you? Want to touch on a brewery
that had quite a big, big presence at field Days
last week, Good George. Now they've been around a wee while,
haven't they.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yeah, yeah, I can I can see why they'd have
a presence at field Days. That's right in their wheelhouse.
It's a Hamilton based brewery and you know Criky at
least fifteen years I think, good George, I might be
exaggerating there, but it's been a long time. They started

(01:10):
out just I don't know Hamilton that well, but it's
just on the north side I think Franklin maybe anyway.
With and they're called Good George because they are in
an old church that was the Saint George's Church and
it was a combo of a hospitality group in the area.

(01:31):
And a guy called Brian Watson, who is he's like
one of New Zealand's most respected veteran being around the traps,
knows everything brewers and and you know they they have
done their own thing and done it really well. Good
George that they've got Good George taverns all over the

(01:52):
especially in that White Caddo Bay a plenty area. But
you know there's a couple up in Auckland, one in
Mission Bay and another way and the wind you had
quarter on the north wharf there for people who come
into the city and yeah, I think they raggling they
might have one, and I think they've just opened one
in the Hawk's Bay as well. So there it's a

(02:15):
good model because you know, you brawl the beer and
you get to sell it in your yeah, and people
will know they're one of the few breweries that still
do the you know, the big it's not quite a litera.
It's nine hundred and forty six mills. The Squealers they
call them, that's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they still do
those which are really good value in the supermarket. You know,

(02:39):
if you know that you like a beer and you
you want to get what we would have called a flagon,
a mini flagon. So yeah, the Great Brewery they do
really good, reliable beer. You know, they never put it
for wrong. Great siders too. But the one I wanted
to talk about because we've got dried Jrlyes just around

(03:00):
the corner, and I know, you know there'll be some people,
some of your listeners will be keen to maybe look
after themselves for a month and see if they can
do drive test is I've done it once in my life.
I congratulations. I'm gonna have another go this year, and
we'll probably we'll probably talk about a few more nine

(03:22):
Elks just for fis some inspiration. But they've just released
a new one called Virtual Reality pale Ale so great.
We name virtual reality it's almost there, but it's it's
in an orange can. They've got two virtual realities. Ones
are hazy and it comes in a purple can, and
this other one's are pale ale. So it's a clearer

(03:43):
bear and it's delicious, you know, Like I am always
astounded how nice they can make the Non Alcoholics tape. Yeah,
I really recommend this one. I cracked open a couple
of cans midweek last week test it and yeah, it
came up Trump. So if you're looking for a drive

(04:04):
July inspiration, the good George virtual reality pale Ale in
the Orange can.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, well, there we go a couple of non alcoholics
to try with Drive your Line. You know, I might
be like you, maybe I might do Drive Yourly again
just as a good test of a willpower.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah. And I think the thing is these days you
can get pretty decent flavor. Like in the past when
I did it. In the past, it was really hard
to find good flavorsome options, you know, but these days
are there's so many, So it's a it's a good opportunity.
We'll talk a bit more about those coming up, I
think in the future.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Absolutely. All right, Michael, great to catch up. Let's do
it again next week.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Cheers Brian. Two three foh ah.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Ah. Yes, sixteen away from seven o'clock. This is gold Sporting.
It's the country sport. Breakford
