Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the cricket field to the cow shed. It's the
Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on gold Sport. Almost
seventeen past eight. Here on gold Sport right we are
looking the round ball game now soccer football on the show.
With the start of the twenty twenty four to twenty
five Premier League season just days away. Lasting two hundred
and eighty two days from tomorrow through to Sunday, the
(00:23):
twenty fifth of May twenty twenty five, three hundred and
eighty matches will determine which of the twenty clubs will
win the Premier League title. Manchester City as we know,
aiming for an impressive fifth in a row, the race
for the top four and of course also the UEFA
Champions League qualification as well as who gets relegated and
(00:44):
promoted and so on. Joining us on the CSP this
morning out of Talk Sport E UK. Friend of the Show,
Sam Alad Morning, Sam.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Hi, guys, good morning. How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Oh, very very well. You'll be getting excited.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Mate, yeah, my honest.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
You know what's it creeps up on you kind of
had the end of last season and then you very
quickly go into European Championships and then that finishes, and
then you think, right, do you know what, We'll have
a break from football, the kind of Olympics keep you
occupy for two weeks and the next thing you know, yeah, yeah,
you wake up a Monday morning and the Premier League's back.
So yeah, we can't wait for it all. Get us
(01:19):
going Friday night man Unit TV for them and yeah,
fingers strosper from all the same drama they were so
used to.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
And the big question is going to be will Manchester
City when they're fifth straight title?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yes they will.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I've always maintained the wild Pep Guardiera as the man
City manager.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
I don't think they can be stopped.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
We've seen some great Liverpool teams over the years push
them all the way and fall short. We've seen over
the past two seasons Arsenal pushed them.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
You know. I think this is a great Arsenal team.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
I think Mickel Arteta has done an incredibly good job
there over a sort of a four or five year
period to get them.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Pushing City hard.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
But there's just something about City that, you know, certainly
in the turn of the year, when we get into
you know, January, time of February's time, no matter what
position they're in, whether they're three behind, five behind, eight behind,
they've just got it in them where they go on
runs where they win ten, twelve to fourteen, and no
matter how good the other team are, they can't be stopped.
(02:16):
And for all the great players they've got, the great
manager they've got, we all know that they've got this,
this winning mentality, this winning habit, and it comes on
the top in Pep Guardiola. So look, I think Arstal
going to push them really close again. I think there'll
only be a couple of points in it. But if
you had to put a pound on it, I think
you've got to be a brave man to go against
man sitting each.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Year, a team or two ken surprise Eston Villa last
year sneaking in the fourth place. I think. So, who
do you think will be the surprise this year? This
season's sim.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, really really good question. I think a lot of
people are talking about west Ham because they've got a
new manager in Julie Lapategi, and they've they've had probably
the best chance window I think out of any team
in the league. They've signed a lot of players. Now,
of course, that doesn't guarantee success. It's you know, not
as simple as you bring in seven eight new players
and it all clicks at all jails. But some of
(03:08):
the signings on paper look look really exciting. That folk
Rugs come in from bruce Ya Dortmund. He was playing
in the Euros for Germany, the Champions League final for
Dortmund last year. You know, a couple of months ago.
He's gonna lead their line. A player called some of
Ill's coming from Leeds. He was playing the season last
year in the Championship. They've signed Wan Besaka from man United,
a center back from France and Toibido who's a top
(03:31):
class center back. So they've been really busy. They've been
really active. They've got an experienced manager in They've also
kept their best players in Bowen, Paquetta and Kuda, so
it does maybe a team to surprise a few people.
I think west Ham could could be a good shout
for that.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
And on the other end of the scale, who can
you see being relegated?
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Perhaps Yeah, I actually think, you know, not often are
the three teams that come straight to go up go
straight back down. But it happened last season. I actually
think it could up and again this season. I think
Ipswich have done so well twin back to back promotions.
You know, they're keeping Kieran McKenna was such a good
thing for them. But I just look at their team.
(04:10):
I just simply don't think there's enough quality, Premier League
quality in that team. I think lesser in a strange
situation where they could they've had a quiet transfer window
and they could potentially be dog points because of FFP,
so that'll put them right up against them. And then
again Wisthampton a little bit like Himswitch. I'm just not
sure there's there's enough quality there and kind of the
teams that you'd expect to be just above it. You're Everton,
(04:32):
You're Nottingham Forests. Again, I kind of just think they've
got that no how on of how to get over
the line and survive. So I actually think it's the
three teams I've come up I'm going to go to
to go back down.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Well, you're fizzing and no doubt the fans are fizzing
really for kickoff on Friday night.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Ah, do you know what? It's beautiful this time? He
is so like so exciting.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
When you you know, you do your fantasy football team,
you maybe you know your the WhatsApp chats are going
good sort. Yeah, you get tickets for the first few
games of the season. Yeah, we can't wait for it
as well, I think as well, a real buzz in
England after you know, a really really good European Championships
and yeah, it's just there's so much going on that
it feels like this year. You know, the race the
(05:14):
title is going to be good, but it feels like
the race I think the top four as well is
going to be really really exciting. I think lots of
teams are looking really good, really solid, and I think
the reason why we love the Premier League is it
can be so unpredictable, so we're looking forward to him.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
I can't wait too.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
You've got one more sleep, two more sleep to me
then we're them are ready to go.
Speaker 1 (05:31):

Thank you and enjoy the weekend of footy mate.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
