Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the rugby field to the rotary shed. It's the
Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport eighteen.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
After eight times knitball now silver firm's coach, Dame Nolan
Tadhu believes experimenting with Amelia Walmsley's paid off in the
sixty three point fifty dead Rubber Constellation Cup netball loss
to the Diamonds in Melbourne Overnight Wolveshy played goal attack
and goal shoot in a fixture which actually was quite
sad because at Mark Grayston Wiki's last test in a

(00:29):
black dress. For now she can't play under the current
eligibility rules while contracted to New South Wales next year,
Australia avoided a series clean sweet three one, but New
Zealand won the trophy for only the third time in
fourteen attempts, joining us. She was on the call last night,
is Yvonne Willering morning?

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Vonn Yes, good morning. I mean, how can you win
by eighteen the game before sixty one forty three and
then lose by thirteen sixty three fifty to us? So yeah,
what a big turnaround?

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Do you think that was because Nolane was experimenting a
little bit.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Don't use the word experimenting. Well, come on, this is
Silver Firms level, you know, I mean, surely this is
about playing your best against the best, you know, and
the experimentation should be done at a level below this.
So surprised me that she started with Wormsley. I would
have thought she would have started with a combination that
was so successful in the game before, you know, and

(01:32):
if everything went while, you would always put on I
appreciate Wormsley hadn't he played, She never played in the
Tiny Jemison series, so suddenly she went on the court.
But having said that, actually on the first quarter it
was fifteen all so you know, certainly, you know, she
was added very much so by Echinacia and Wormsley did okay,

(01:53):
I mean, there was nothing wrong with how she played.
She got nine out of eleven. And you mentioned that
you played goal attack, Well, she didn't even shoot one
goal in the in the time that she was out
at goal attack, you know, and at the start of
the game, not realizing what was going to happen. You know,
I said that really the team that makes the most
substitutions generally loses the game because just instability and also

(02:17):
a lot of changes are made because things aren't going well.
And did you notice Australia only made one sub and
actually it was a very good sub and they put
Ari Young on and I thought she had a really
good game.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Talking about Australia, I mean, did you did you notice
an improvement in their performance from the previous test of
this one?

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Oh? Absolutely yeah, And you've got to admire that. It's
a bit like the silver Ferns as well. You know,
they lost the tiny Jamison. They were under the pump
from the media and from the from the general public,
and so they came out strong against Australia. Australia three
tests they lost badly and they did. They were playing,
you know, not great nettle. Yes, the first were playing well,

(03:00):
but really Australia was well below park so they were
under pressure as well, and they really wanted to finish
the season understandably, you know, with a win. And you
have a look at it that there was not that
many unforced errors, That's what I'm saying. They only made
the one sub, which was actually a great sub because
he came on so strong in the goal offense position.

(03:23):
Garbage saw thirty six out of thirty six and Austin
who was player of the game got twenty seven out
of thirty so even the attempts, Australia had sixty six
attempts to New Zealand's fifty seven and they made far
less errors in the game than New Zealand. Part of that, obviously,
New Zealand was in a position of playing catch up

(03:43):
Nepal and it was never going to work for them.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Were there other standout players for you in the New
Zealand team.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, it was interesting, like we talk about, you know,
all the changes that were made, and yes, I thought
I was surprised that you did start with Wormsley and
not Nowiki. I thought set the tone and then go
from there. Some of the changes that were made. You
look at it and you go what you know, Yes,
I think there was too many changes. But having said that, example,

(04:13):
Berger was that gold offense and she had nine penalties
against this so she was standing alongside, you know, the
Australian shooter for quite a number of times. She then
went to wing defense. I thought that was a good move.
Mason came on and Mason has played a gold offense
before in the position and actually didn't do too bad
with Jackson. Appreciate that they are obviously in the Wellington

(04:37):
team together, so you know, those changes I have no
problem with. But in the last like there was a
time though when Wilson went on to gold attack and
Etcanacio went off, and then like we already said, you know,
then you had a situation where Warmsley went on to
the gold attack and I'm going, you are now kidding me,
and that was then became a situation where we're not

(04:58):
going to win, so we might just put everyone on.
But I did not see. I didn't understand why Warnestley
went on. Karaka came on in the last quarter, and
I actually thought that she made a difference in that
last quarter. They only lost that last quarter fifteen thirteen,
so I actually thought that she did make a difference.
I think defensively they tightened up pretty well. But on

(05:20):
the whole, I think Australia were smarter in their play.
Their attack was smarter, and defensively they stayed off Grace
and Wiki a little bit more and Arianng in particular
came through for a couple of beautiful tips and intercepts.
So for New Zealand, Echanasio still leads really well in

(05:41):
that goal attack position. Whether she's you know, actually shooting
or whether she is she's actually just doing the attacking play.
Ekonasia had got eleven out of fourteen, Grace Andwiki twenty
five out of twenty six, so she's still right in there,
you know. And I know at the end of the
game and I said, oh, this Grayce and Uiki's last

(06:01):
time on New Zealand soil for a while. Yeah, that
remains to be seen, and I think you just take that,
take that situation as it comes. Actually, you know so, yeah,
but it was a good, good finish for Australia. Yes,
the Ferns will go home with the silverware. They've got
the Constellation Cup. That was number one priority. They really

(06:22):
wanted to go for one. I don't know when that
goal stopped, because that last quarter was Okay, we're not
going to win this game, let's just get everyone on.
But I personally, yeah, I don't, you know, you sometimes
you just need to have that time on the bench,
you know, and you earn the right to be out
on court. And it's not a development situation. It's a

(06:44):
development at the moment. What they need to do is
establish something that sits underneath, that gives a tear underneath
the opportunities fantastic and thank you for you
