Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to a podcast from news Talk said, be
follow this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio,
The Rewrap and welcome.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
To the Rewrap for Friday, all the best buts from
the mic hosting breakfast on Newstalok said, be in a
sillier package, I am Glen Heart today, Labor. They've been
just dropping policy left, right and center this week? Did
you notice will mark the week?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
They might feature in that as well. Who knows?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Liam Lawson were on Where's he this weekend? And there
has been some bad weather. What Mike thinks about all that?
But before any of that, the Fonterra sell off, speaking
of what Mike thinks about things?
Speaker 3 (00:57):
What does he really think about this?
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Mike as a farmer, I'm voting know what a sellout
and why is Onetier not making those brands return more?
Such a cop out? And yet it will be voted through. Yes,
it will be voted through. Interesting juxtaposition between the Prime
Minister ex Business who sees the way the boat's going
to go, which is it's going to bolt home. It'll
be the same as the door meets voat. It'll most
people will vote for it. No one turns down four
(01:19):
hundred thousand dollars and no one, no farm is interested
in ice cream at the best of times. And yet
Winston Peter's that old, that old altruistic New Zealand. And
I'm on I can't make up my mind. I'm on
both sides. I mean, I know it's going to go through.
I'm not against it going through. And it's billions, billions
of dollars into the economy. And after all, you've invested
in fonteria if you're a farmer and you're getting a
return on your money. That's what investment's all about, for
(01:40):
goodness sake. But equally I agree with Winston Peters. See
how I could never be a politician. I'd be on
one side, then I'd be on the other, and then
I'd be flipp would be flip flop hosking. That's what
they're called. And just like a politician, exactly, it's flip
flop hosking. I'm on the fence on this one. I'd say,
Morning Mike, I'd be on the Mike hosting brig Morning
Mike cof while I'm on the fence on this one. No,
not again, and hang up. And they never invite me back.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
We nobody cares what I think, of course, But what
I think is that you can only sell your stuff
once and then it's sold, and then you don't have
any more stuff, and you can't keep making money off
that stuff. So yeah, I mean, I guess if you've
been going on to do something else and you don't
need that stuff anymore, it doesn't matter quite so much.
(02:21):
But if you're depending on staying in that sort of
business where that sort of stuff does keep making money,
and you're not making money off it anymore, do I
know it?
Speaker 3 (02:32):
I see, I told you I didn't know what I
was talking about.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Its rewrap I reckon.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
I right in in the Labor Party because they don't
seem to know what they're talking about either.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
So here of the long weekend, let's give the Labor
Party a report card, shall we? For their policy week.
It'll be one of the few report cards this week
because we actually turned up to work, so overall a
C minus for presentation. They had two years to organize this,
to make a splash, to grab the headlines and run
with them. Policy one didn't have any detail, so it
was just a thought bubble. Policy two was forgotten about
or sneakily given to a magazine ahead of time, or
(03:01):
a combo of both and three. That was fine, but
it was just an extension of an already existing idea.
And the problem with the existing idea the existing idea
isn't used or needed. So let's have a drone type
view of the themes we have here. It's a lot
of overarching government control, a government picking winners on the
future funder, government telling doctors how much they can charge
in some freebies for gaming. Now that's left wing politics,
(03:24):
and some people like that, and that's fine. That's democracy.
That's why we have elections. So b for the theme,
specifically the Future Fund C because at no point can
they escape the fact that whatever they give to the fund,
it won't go to debt repayment. And given we've got
less than no money, that must be a priority. And
that's before you get to the bit where the world
is a wash with money anyway. For ideas are the
(03:44):
GPS Committee d D for dumb and dunce and fail
telling already struggling GPS what they cannon can't charge is
a recipe for frustration, anger and resignation. It's got administrative
cluster written all over it are the gaming subsidies B
minus because it's already running. But here's the clue. Gaming
is booming. Is it booming because of the subsidies? No,
other subsidies aren't used. They set aside one hundred and
(04:06):
sixty million bucks than half have been applied for. It's
a classic government looking to give away money. They can't
even give it away. But the truth is as artificial
as it all is. Governments do offer tax deals on
gaming and film, so you've got to compete. So what
the three This was the best idea of the week,
and by quite so margin. So overall, you think about
it this way. If this is them, if this is
(04:28):
the sharp and ready to rock and roll alternative to
run this country, either they need to majorly sharpen up.
Or if you're looking at this week and you're game
man that Hipkins, he is one slick operator, well I'll
see you at the airport.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
I am a bit worried that it's going to end
that like the local body elections, and I'm going to
look at all the choices that not be inspired to
vote for any of them, and then my voting forms
just get left into the notice board in the battler's
pantry a rerap.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
All right, what day is it?
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Friday? Better mark the week?
Speaker 4 (05:07):
I spoke, it's time now to mark the week. The
little piece of news and current of incidence. It's just
a shade hotter than inflation. Judith Colin seven. Her open
letter to all of us this week revealed a few
excellent home truths about unions, the prize going to their obsession,
of course, with pala with Palestine, over kids' education alliance seven.
You got the sense it was always going to go
(05:28):
that way. So let's hope Dawn meets O the real
deal and better days are ahead. Are Labour's election policies
too wata? I mean, it seems almost impossible to believe
you could roll out simple ideas as badly as that.
I mean Labour's policies four, I mean, as for the
actual details. So the games idea isn't new, but it's
not bad. The Doctor's committee is frequiusly communist, and we
still really don't have a clue about the future fund
(05:50):
jobs seven. The advertising of jobs is up, the gaps
are there. That is a green shoot manufacturing and bus drivers,
speaking of which seven, they're jobs too, So how is
it they can't find people and yet we pay people
who are allegedly looking for work. The changes around the
climate reporting for business seven making business easier and cheaper
to do, A simple yet welcome idea. Joe Parker right,
(06:15):
let's start ready? Is it just me? Or do we
love Joe Parker? One fight away from the belts and
he's with us very shortly? Kevin Rudd six, I don't
like you either, and being humiliated he seems to have
saved his job. Ironically elbow, speaking of which eight good
for a bloke. It was a goner if you remember
(06:36):
before the last election. He has the potential now to
out hawk hawk putin two. Honestly, what does he have
over Trump? I mean Trump looks like a punching bag
on this war. Are the Sports Academy charter school eight?
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Is it just me?
Speaker 4 (06:49):
Or is that like a dream school for kids who
hated school? Are the ird seven almost seven?
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Well?
Speaker 4 (06:55):
Twelve bucks almost twelve bucks back for every dollar they
spend chasing up slack payers. That's a good return. More please,
because there's actually ten billion dollars out there. Owed Marrama
Marrama one, a whole year's work in the bin because
you couldn't turn up for your own bill You cannot
make that stuff up. That is the week Gopi's on
(07:18):
the website. And if you take six of these glue
them back to back to back, they make awesome placards
for your next picket line.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
It's just occurred to me how annoying it must be
to have to make your billboards and your blackguards and
your picket signs when you're a teacher, because you've probably
spent half your week doing crafty stuff like that. Anyway,
now you've got to get your glitter and your stable
gun out again.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Fun times. The rewrap so here.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
I was getting all ready to involve myself in the
Mexican Grand Prix this weekend, and yeah, guys, done even
in it.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
What's happening there?
Speaker 4 (07:52):
I sort of feel bad now because I like Razor.
I really like Razor. Raisor is one of my favorite
people in the world because he's a bit left of
center and I love left of center people. And then
I like Ryan Fox too. I really like Ryan, and
I like where he's come from and how much he's achieved,
and I like those sort of and I like Liam.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Having a quiet week in this week in Liam or
what's going on there.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
He's just for people who are concerned about the Mexican situation,
is that the rules state, I think Andrew made this
fairly clear and sport than the rules state that you've
got to put a sub driver your reserve driver in
a car, both cars over a period of a couple
of different race meetings. And so he's out of the
car on FP one, which will be tomorrow. But then,
(08:36):
of course the announcement's coming according to Helmet, who Now
I can safely say I don't like Helmet that much.
We've had him on the Premier mid night insightful guy
and a major player in the F one, but he's
certainly not in the Razor Ryan Liam Joe category. But nevertheless,
I mean i'd have him back on obviously, But the
(08:57):
decisions being made after Mexico as to what happens next year,
I think Liam's fine. I think this whole thing's been
blown out of all proportion, and I cannot, for the
life of me work out why if you had lawsona
assuming Hager goes to Red Bull, have you got Lawson
and Sonoda, why you would promote this guy from F
two who's done nothing all year. Why would you suddenly
(09:18):
do that? What would be the point of that. Therefore,
I'm assuming that Liam's absolutely fine. Ye're Boden Barrett and yeah, no,
see Boden like Boden's wife better Hannah. I love Hannah,
but she's not an elite athlete.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
I don't think. I don't think that. I think it's
a different discussion.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
Probably is.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Yeah, So if you're wondering what was happening there, there
were kind of two things going on at once. We
interviewed Joseph Parker this morning, and Mike just wouldn't shut
up about how much he's in love with him and
what a great guy he is, and that he might
be his favorite sportsman, and so then he went on
to think of some other people who quite liked as well. Yeah,
why why missus Bowden Barrick got involved with that, I'm
(09:53):
not quite sure, But yeah, as far as Liam goes,
I'm not so certain about Leeam.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
I seemed to feel like this is how he.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Got into the team in the first place, by being
the reserve driver and getting a drive, and they went, yeah, yeah,
but a little bit worried if others in the rewrap right,
let's finish up here by going away for the weekend.
And by that I mean you might not be able
to because there might be a tree over your road.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Now given the weekend. Fist, that's the other thing I
wanted to say. Somewhere in unused this morning, authorities were
suggesting that you rearrange your long weekend plans because they've
got a tree to cut up or something like that.
And I mean, when there's something wrong with the skitchen.
Person said to me yesterday with all that they were
coming back from Australia. Person said to me yesterday, come
back from Australia as they were looking at the carnage.
(10:41):
And this is not to undermine what happened yesterday. And
there were some parts of the country that had some
real weather issues. I get all of that. But they
said it's like it's like New Zealand is like an
old person who's bored on the internet looking for problems
and things to close down and moan about. And I
thought that's a nice way of putting it. And so
this morning they're telling you to rearrange your long weekend.
(11:02):
Since when did some local authority or a fends or
a council or some ng O or is it, have
the right to tell you to rearrange your whole life
for a whole long weekend just because they've got something
that's a bit pressing on their desk at the moment.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
I suppose that if you were planning to drive over
to the West Coast, if you literally to arrange.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
Yeah, I guess you know, if you get to the
dead end and there's a cliff at the end and
you'd have to do a three point turn, they'd probably
stand there and go, well, make sure you indicate when
you do that.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
And if you're if you're on the West Coast, you're
probably gonna have to rearrange a few things as well.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Precisely, I don't know. There's too many people telling us.
What I'm saying is we see this, That's what I
was going to talk about.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
There's a lot of pink, pink highlighter on that.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
It was.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
It was.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
There was a tremendous amount of research went into that,
and it's not gone on air now.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Because usually when you wave a paper around, it's only
got a little bit of pink highlighter.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
That's because the little pink is who I've got most
of it in my head, but this one I was
struggling with, so I had to have some extra pink.
And now I haven't even got it out on air
because you just way you've been like a little authority there, Glenn,
and you've waylaid me. You've told me how to rearrangement show.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Yeah, I feel sometimes the Husk is guilty of thinking
that the entire world revolves around the homestead and medicana.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Where it never rains.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Apparently, it's amazing how often we'll come to work after a.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Week weekend and so what about that weather?
Speaker 2 (12:31):
And he goes, no, it was lovely aut my way,
So has he got I don't know if he's got
some kind of nice weather generator installed or something like that.
Certainly we haven't had it nearly as bad as it
has been around a lot of the other the rest
of the country. So I'm sorry that my host was
so may off of about that and not very sympathetic.
(12:52):
I hope you haven't blown away. I hope you can
tidy up and carry on with your weekend more or
less as you've planned, and I'll see you back here
again on Tuesday.
