Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Coast Breakfast Bonus Podcast with Tony Jason Sam.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
I thanks listening to a Breakfast Bonus podcast today. We're
joined by a Ben Boyce and his daughter Sena. You
might have an been boys, you know, Jonathan being been
around for a wee while pen your TV shows obviously
on the radio as well. Now the new podcast too
with Siena and you know this one's cooled. When I
grow up and you talk to a bunch of people
about I guess growing up, how did this come about?
How did your idea come about?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
I just I always said to him, like last year,
I was like, I just don't know what I want
to be when I grow up, and I think many
kids around New Zealand just don't know. And it's just
so daunting, just not knowing what you're going to be.
So this podcast is just kind.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Of to turned off your microphone during that off, But
you're right, you keep you and like, you know, you
guys have got kids and you're growing up, they always
like I want to be this, I want to be there,
and it is daunting. I mean, having at our age
you don't know what you want to be necessarily all
the time, you know, So I guess that was the

(00:56):
idea behind the podcast, was talking to inspirational females and
be something their young kids and also their parents can
listen to and maybe talk and learn learn from these
amazing females about their story and get some advice.

Speaker 5 (01:08):
So Sina, has it refined what you're trying to achieve?

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, well, I just think it'd be helpful for anyone
that does listen. They can kind of just get like
a little like a little dip and whatever whatever path
they want to choose when they grow up. And it's
kind of been helpful for me to like see how
all these amazing people got to where they are in
their life.

Speaker 6 (01:29):
And I look at you and I think, wow, you're
already doing so much because I've seen you perform on stage.
So that's what you might not know is Sena is
a good little actress and does a lot of shows
for the National Youth Theater. You've already got that in
your corner, right, You've got a confidence to do a
podcast you get up on stage. So have you thought
what you might study yet? Have you actually got a

(01:50):
solid idea.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Or I definitely want to do something around that acting idea?
But it is also you need different paths in life
just in case one doesn't work out, which I think
like a lot of people have told us that they
did have those other ideas and options.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
It's really cool because you talk to you know, with
me lucky enough, I'm going to drop some names, you know,
I talked to class. I'm going to do Eliza McCartney,
poll Volter, Lucy Lawless act, Karen Walker fashion designer. We've
got at Leasta Carrington coming up. Firstly, I try and
because I organized these interviews. I've been trying to organize
interviews for John and Bence for years. Never got this
caliber of this sudden you do something with a bit

(02:26):
more heart and but more meaningful, and everyone's like, yeah'll
do it.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
But well really it's a secret with it.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
But yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
But having these people come along and even you know,
it's seeing to see it, even if you don't want
to end up being like them, it's just that the
what they've learned along their journey and how they got
to it, it's really really cool and it's really inspiring.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Actually that really is.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Has anyone surprised you, like somebody you thought it was
going to be a certain way that they took a
certain path. You're like, wow, I did not see that
coming for that person.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
I think I was surprised by Eliza McCartney just yes,
as a kid, she just tried so many different sports
and it was just like a chance outing. A friend
was going, I'm going to this pole vaulting thing. She's like, oh,
come along. And you know, if she hadn't gone to
that pole vaulting, you know, like trial sixty is there,
she was winning like Olympic bronze medal. It's how her
life would have been different on to that. And you're like,

(03:11):
she's like, just try everything as the kids, you know,
because you never know what you could be good at.
And I'm like, oh jeez, I could have been so much,
beirit something else. I stuck with broadcasting.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Do you play me?

Speaker 4 (03:25):
It's inevitable. We need to plan you maybe I could
have been a lot better.

Speaker 6 (03:30):
I don't want to plan as being a producer for
your daughter's podcast.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
That's a plan b. I mean, you've got talented kids,
but all of you guys have got talented kids. You know,
that's I see why you know Chris Jina does it
with the Kardashian.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, children all retirement plans exactly.

Speaker 5 (03:46):
You know, we're seeing you guys? Are you and your
are going viral on social media? Fifty million views. I
think about you being embarrassed to think about you your
dad doing cool speak, but I think potentially the reality
is very different. Has this been an amazing kind of
callous to building your relationship with your dad?

Speaker 3 (04:03):
I think so, because it's just like, I mean, he's
always been cringe, so.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
It wasn't any different days.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
You know, we do, we do kind of bond over
because you know, you don't want to push your kids
into stuff that you know you're into. But then since
she's been little, you know, we've always dragged her into
TV shows or radio shows in.

Speaker 6 (04:25):
Do you know what I like about that? Though? Because
you're so right, because I find this with my daughters
who are into theater as well. You don't want to
push them into it, but you also don't want to
get in their way. And if that is their natural inclination,
who are you to stop them to?

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Right?

Speaker 4 (04:37):
Yeah, And I can't like, I can't build anything. I
can't like I can't go out and fix something, So
we'll just.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Go through a maackage driver.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Unless you can kind of like teach you some of
the things, and it feels like I'm an expert. I'm
definitely not an expert in media, but you know, you
do lose some things over the years, so it's kind
of nice to kind of do stuff together and go.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
I think you're at the point you can call yourself.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Congratulations. It's called When I Grow Up. It's an incredible
podcast chatting with inspirational New Zealand women about how they
got to where they're going. So, if you are on
a path you're not entirely sure about, or someone in
your world is, you need to have a listen to this.
If you text podcast to two six nine nine, we'll
text you about the details on how to get it. Congratulations,
all the very best for the future.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
I've got a plan. I've got another plan for you
more tattoos.
