Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello, welcome to we need to talk and our special
on Christmas gifting today. I want to talk about charity
gifts because I feel like this is a really good
way to spread a bit of joy at Christmas time
and to just appreciate that others aren't necessarily in the
same position as you, and there are a lot of
people in need at the moment. As you know, our
(00:25):
economy is not in a great place, which means a
lot of people will be going without this Christmas. So
I want to start by talking about Variety. I've been
a Variety ambassador for a number of years and I
have just shot the Christmas campaign with them. So essentially
what we're saying is that one in four key Week
kids are going to go without the magic of Christmas,
which just breaks my heart. So there's a couple of
(00:47):
ways you can help. You can sponsor a key Week
kid full time like I do, so I donate around
I think it's about thirty six dollars a month, and
it just essentially means that they can get the laptops
they need for school, their uniform is paid for this,
sports shoes if they play sport, or you can do
a one off donation for Christmas, which I think is
a really cool idea. So forty nine dollars will provide
(01:08):
one keywkid with a Christmas meal, ninety eight dollars will
provide two keyw we kids with a Christmas meal, one
hundred and ninety nine will provide four Keywi kids with
a meal, and four hundred and seventy four will provide
ten keiwek kids with a Christmas meal. And can you
imagine what joy that would bring when that Christmas meal arrives, Like,
(01:30):
just knowing that they are going to get a Christmas
meal just brings me so much joy. So if you
can that's variety dot org dot en zed other charities
worth supporting kindness dot org dot in z now. Sarah
Page is an absolute angel and she runs this charity
it's the Christmas Joy Store. So what you can do
is you can go to Miter ten first of all,
(01:52):
and you can drop off Christmas gifts there and she
makes sure it gets to the families that really need it.
She has this Joy Store where the families that need
to get their kids Christmas parents, they come to the
store and they can actually pick their own so rather
than being just given a Christmas gift, they can go.
You know what, my son's into Lego. I'm going to
go and get him a Lego set, which I just
(02:14):
love because it's empowering for parents as well because they
know their kids the best. Another key We Christmas charity
Kiwi Christmas Books dot org dot nz Sonia Wilson, who
is an xtvn Z journalist who was on twenty twenty.
She runs this and it's essentially gifting a beautiful Kiwi
Christmas book on Christmas Day so that a kid gets
(02:35):
to open up a present and experience the joy of reading.
World Vision is also a really good charity SIP to support,
and we have supported them on coast for a while now.
So this Christmas world Vision is encouraging compassionate. Keywis to
remember those that are facing hunger, hardship and uncertainty by
choosing ethical, life changing gifts, which truly matters. So what
(02:58):
they've got is they've got a gift catalog that you
can look through and choose gifts from there. So there's
Planter to Prosperous Future, which is fast growing seeds for
ten dollars, tree seedings for eighteen, garden tools for thirty five.
I'm just giving you some examples. Here. For ten dollars,
you can immunize a child. For fifty bucks, you can
gift a goat. For sixty dollars you can provide emergency food,
(03:24):
and for eighty dollars you can help a girl stay
in school. So that's Worldvision dot org, dot enz. And
the last charity idea I'd like to give you is
the Santa Club and it's by Nurturing Families. So you
go to Nurturingfamilies dot end z. So the campaign is
a special project. It's designed to ensure that children supported
(03:44):
by the organization received gifts during the festive season. And
as I mentioned it, times are so tough at the moment,
so for even you know, average families that might have
been able to afford gifts last year perhaps won't be
able to this year. So to make it happen, and
what Nurturing Families does is they reach out to their
network of caseworkers, police contacts, social workers, midwives and others
(04:08):
like that to compile a wish list for each family
they support. So it includes the child's interests, the preferences,
and their ages. And then they want us to join
the Santa club via re Form, and that invites us
to try and peer up with a family to go
and purchase and provide those gifts, and hopefully you'll be
(04:28):
paired with a family that maybe your kids are the
same age as, so you kind of have that general vibe.
So if you want to essentially adopt a family to
make sure they get gifts, go to Nurturingfamilies dot z.
