Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Weekend Sport podcast with Jason Vine
from News Talks.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
EDB Warriors have recorded a statement forty points to ten
NRL win over the Sharks in Sydney. You play it
there for man comes out from arrested Veta.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
They need to get a countesday do and time.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Down with it easy looker.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Is suddently killing them.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Here in the show. They scored seven tries last night,
including five unanswered in the second half, to jump to
second on the ladder level on points with the Bulldogs.
Coach Andrew Webster joins us from Sydney just before the
team fly home. Webby, thanks for joining us, MA, congrats
on the win last night. Was this your best performance
of the season.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Yeah, I'd say it was for sure. From round two
mainly was pretty good, but yeah, I thought that was
definitely our best performance where we put all the pieces together,
which is very pleas.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Isn't When you score forty points. Obviously you're happy with
the attack. But are you just as satisfied, if not more,
with only conceding ten your second fewest points conceded this season.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Yeah, definitely, I think our attack complimented our defense last
night and vice versa. I think they had to defend
our trial on and the end there for twenty two players,
and then we come up when they set and go
the other way. I think we scored tries in the
last place and kicks because our attack was so good
getting us down the field. So yeah, I think which

(01:41):
we kind of pieced all our facets of our game
last night, which complimented each other really well.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
You mentioned the end of the game there and the
try that you know that finished things off. You're already
well ahead by then. The result is beyond doubt. How
much pride do you take in the fact that you
that you guys are still out there tackling and tackling
and tackling again.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Yeah, that's probably proud of Snow. I mean, we talk
about pride in our trial line. We talked about the
finish matters. If we were losing by fifty, it still
matters the end of the game. But to be up
by that score line and still be that dialed in
and they're focused on what we wanted to do, and

(02:24):
that is our standards and our trial on defense, I
was probably most proud of that last time.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Your youngsters, you know, lak Ahella Seemer, Jacob Laban, Dimitric Vaimonga,
Tannastos Smith, Sam Healy. These are young guys where he
was last night a bit of a coming of age
for these guys or has that already happened?

Speaker 3 (02:44):
No, I think it was. I I think it was there.
I think we've been working it out, you know, like God, Dimitric,
He's he's minutes have been up and down. He's been
playing really good football. But you know, I'm sure it's
very hard to work out to play in the NRL
when you're that young and have that consistency around his

(03:06):
standards and senior boys have done a great job with them.
They've let them express themselves by themselves, and I thought
you just saw some really confident guys really a lot
about not trying to replace Barney. Everyone's just got to
do the instead of trying to be something different. And
I was just really proud of the way the young

(03:28):
guys developed last night. But I definitely think it's off
the back of some really strong leadership from our experienced boys.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Yeah, can I just pick up on that James Fisher haase,
he doesn't seem to say a lot even in the
postmats press conference. You know, he chooses his words carefully,
but can you articulate his influence on the playing groups
since he arrived.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, it's hard to do it, but because you have
to kind of feel it and see it. He kind
of just walked in the place, Fish and everyone's standards
change just by walking in. And everyone knew what he
was about. Everyone had heard stories about the way train
and his work ethic and what he does after training

(04:11):
with his extras, and that's just infectious and I think
straight away people in the raids of the standards. The
best thing about Fish made is he he's all about
the boys and the team, and he's all about these
young guys and he's so passionate about New Zealand. In
his words, you get to play for his country every week.

(04:32):
So it's pretty specially when you've got a guy that
feels so passionate about it and yeah, just rubs off
on the other boys.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah, I love that, and I try last night from
Dmitrix's Little Deception and short Pass. You know, do you
take internal satisfaction from your players providing eye catching moments
like that?

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Yeah, definitely. Like our game has been modeled on like
hard work all year, tight games, just at defense, and
we've been pretty probably conservative the way we're attacked, to
be fair, but we kind of the methods to our
madness and the wanted to slowly add to it. And
like Dmitry passing the ball to Fish is just you know,

(05:15):
credit to how hard they work on the skill level.
I thought, you know, we moved the ball and out
of the arctics, out of our own really well at
times when we saw that the defensive really tight. YEA,
this little part like that, we're just adding. Instead of
you don't want to be here this time of year,
trying to create a whole new way to play, We're
just adding to what we're trying to do.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
I understand the decision to rule weight Eggan out was
made late yesterday morning. What was it that that kept
them out last night.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
It's just got it's just got some barren cord issues
like way poor Way car Harley movies. So mate, he's
trying to get up and playing. He's so brave and
we wanted him to play. And then in the end
I just thought, Billy, you know, I made them stake
last year putting people out there. They were injured and

(06:03):
I just didn't want to do it to such a
good player, and it's nothing long term and nothing to
worry about. But yeah, we just made a decision where
we're a really good option stand they're available, so they
brought him into the team and I thought he did
a great job. But you just just yeah, we obviously
always won't wait.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
In that of course. Yeah. But a special night though
for Sam Haley, wasn't it, you know? And it seemed
like the boys got around.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Him, mate. Honestly yesterday when we you know, obviously let
the boys know that se him was fine. They were
so excited for him. Just wanted to wait. But yeah,
and the boys got around him, like you said, But
I thought it's terrific. He took his opportunity, so happy
for him.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Was this among the most satisfying outings in your entire
time as Warriors coach? Do you think.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
I probably haven't thought of it? It aren't really, but
now that you have, yeah, we'll just got a long
way to go, So it's hard to me to get
too excited. I think when you have big wins in
finals and stuff, like when we're beating the Knights at home,
that's probably the biggest moment. But I mean, no one's
going to remember this if we don't if we don't

(07:13):
make the eight, or we don't go on and win
finals footy, well we won't remember this game, you so,
But we're allowed to city right now and enjoy it.
So I don't want to take that away from the boys.
But yeah, I don't know one way to go.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Yeah, well I can tell everybody back here is enjoying it.
I can tell you that that won't come as a surprise.
So now now we're going to We're going to wait
a couple of weeks. I don't we the buye good
time bad time for the buye. I mean, Wade Egan's
got another week obviously to get right. But would you
rather just keep playing?

Speaker 3 (07:41):
And I think when you get when you get the buyers.
I mean we've been on the road. I think something
like seven out of the last nine weeks we've been away.
I think someone told me this morning we broke the
club record, MS win in Sydney, the voice break, but
be home with their families. So yeah, I'm happy for them,

(08:04):
But yeah, you've got to have a buy at some stage.
And yeah, there's no reason why this is not a
good time.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Heaver, relaxing flight home. We'll be congrats on the win
last night. Mate. We'll look forward to Penrith in a
couple of weeks.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Thank you, no, thank you Webby.
