Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Weekend Sport podcast with Jason Vine
from News Talks a B.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
We're coming towards the end of our time here at
Shed twenty two, but time for one more interview and
it's a great pleasure to welcome into the show. Former
Springbok now TV rugby analyst with Supersport, Han Yanni Shimangi,
Han Yanni, let's look back to last week. What did
you make of the spring Box performance at Eden Park.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
It's a team that would probably look at at the performance.
They created a lot.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
They had I think twelve or thirteen twenty two meter entries,
but they could just don't convert that pressure, so it
was it was sort of what I want to call
it messi when they got to the red zone, which
was compounding areas, it would be a miss line ut
to be, you know, they win the lineup and the
wall get dropped in the get going, then there'd be
a knock on.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Or some pressure there.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
But but New Zealand did well to disrupt the spring
Box and probably seven points is probably a fair reflection
of the game really at the end in terms of
the New Zealand victory. Didn't Park was always going to
be a difficult place to win, but to win, they
need to put up your best performance.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
And the spring Box was slightly of conor.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
How desperate then will they be to produce a big
reaction tonight?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
It'll be desperate.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Look, it's a similar to you guys, every time you
put on the Springbox jersy, every time they are not,
there is an expectation.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
To deliver excellence. New Zealand it's the greatest library.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
It's it's a harder place to win, and when you're especial,
it's it's you know, we always remember the wins we
have in New Zealand against New Zealand. We informed the
truck last year, but none of them were in New Zealand,
and the team will be desperate together results here.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Obviously a lot of hype around last weekend's game in
there is tonight as well. But with the Eden Park record,
the undefeated record, all of the you know, the emotion
that was wrapped around last week, can you see the
spring Box getting up again in similar fashion for the
game tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
Yeah, they'll get up and purely because also we take
this flat a bit, so there's a lot of internal
competition within this flood, which means guys will want to
perform in put the.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Big foot forward.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
And that that's good for the Springboks. But the reality
is it's it's you know, it's a Dorby game. It's
it's a massive rivalry and don't get up for they
They've never not been up for it, you know. And
I don't think the gap between the two teams is
that big, to be honest with you. And there's plenty
of South Africans and as we said, stand here, I'm
watching the guys walking into the team bus and there's
loads of South Africans just taking pictures here so to

(02:30):
understand what's required to understand, you know, in front of them,
and it's something that they're always embrace.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
What if you made of the raft of changes Rassi
Erasthmus has made to a side for tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
They're good, they're good. Look we have ritated a bit.
I mean's such a fund.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Missoulia played probably ten years Sea games last year and
everyone but he's going to get introduced into the springball team.
He wouldn't start against New Zealand and look what's happened now.
He started last year and he's probably the best young
up and coming talent anymore.

Speaker 5 (02:59):
US demon Billin says, yea two Cayn made the springboards.
I think there's a three year old against US Tralia
which we won. So it's as much as it's a
lot of changes. These guys have been around the block
and they know what to do.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Exciting was a coward infant look at the New Zealanders
wouldn't seen a lot of out it facebook the charts
that they did, played edge groups to ut So he's
a very good player and if he's given a little
bit of space and he started as a big.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Way, did you think that he might have gone in
one or both tests Russie with a six to two
bench split given how effective that was last year in
both Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Speaker 4 (03:33):
Yeah, some of the backs don't have a lot of minutes.
I think that's why he couldn't go with We went
five to three. But Chester Hayesen can come in a
center and flame, so this week you can either.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Look at it as a five to three or a
hybrid sixth too. So that's what he's done this week.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Oh guess name one's a big one because as a
lot he's quite a bigger but a massive offloading. It's
almost like a basketbooll player in terms of this swofloading game.
They can get the pull away within context. So it's
going to be an exciting game.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Do you think the spring Box will continue the aerial
assault they employed last weekend?

Speaker 4 (04:04):
I think the condition sort of takes it at Christie
kicked probably the most that he was good, so you've
got to adapt to the conditions.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
You could see that midfield area a lot of the
teams are kicking.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
I think what you might maybe see from both teams
as variation and kicking instead of kicking from nine, kicked
from ten, kick from twelve, kicked from fifteen, and try
to isolate someone from the back and use that.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
This is a very experienced South African side in many areas,
other areas it's not quite so experienced. How many of
the plaiers involved in the spring Box squad now do
you expect to not be there in a couple of
years at the next Rugby World Cup.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
It's difficult sold because you can't do you look at
the performance, not the age of the player. So if
you look at.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
A guy like what's for example, two thousand people.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
See it's too Old two thousand and seven, you ended
up winning the World Cup. You know, so, I think
what the chapter on months for spiders listening? Would you play?
Well old enough? It actually doesn't matter.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Yeah, good stuff, hen Yanni. I gotta leave it there.
I thanks for joining us. Henyani Shimangi a former springbalk
In now TV rugby analyst with Supersport.
