Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Weekend Sport podcast with Jason Vine
from News Talks, edb.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
And on the Gold Coast. Yesterday, the Warriors get around
it Top four, Top four the free game winning form
they've won back to.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Back weeks are two rocks away for the top four
finis to Warriors. Not their best win of the season,
but at this end of.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
The year there was so much to play for.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Get through, put the points of the beak and march
on the next week Full time Warriors thirty two the
Titans eighty Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
A vintage performance from Roger to Ivasaschek has helped propel
the Warriors to that thirty two to eighteen win over
the Titans. He scored two of the warriors five tries,
allowing them to snap a three game losing streak against
the Titans, who inexplicably have become a bit of a
bogie team. For the Warriors, it also consolidates their spot

(01:09):
in the top four and keeps their destiny in their
own hands with two games to play before the playoffs. Now,
I'm not sure if this was certain before yesterday, but
the Warriors now cannot fall out of the top eight.
They will be playing playoff football. That might have been
the case even before they kicked off last night, but
as I look at the table, they cannot be overtaken

(01:29):
in the top eight now, so we've got that locked away.
But the top four will well and truly still be
in their sights. Ken to open the lines and hear
from you Warriors fans, but the team is about to
fly out back to Auckland. Assistant coach Stacy Jones is
on the line stage. Congratulations on the win last night
as you wait to fly back. What stands out most

(01:49):
about the win and about the performance from your team
last night?

Speaker 4 (01:53):
Oh yeah, hey, Jasons. Yeah, look, I thought we look
pretty clinical with our attack that's fecially out on the edges,
and we scored some nice tries. I thought, you know,
our two edges kick Chase really well, brock Aberry leading
the leading the way on our right side and Kirk
Capable on the left side, and the boys went well
with them. And then you know we forced you know,

(02:14):
Gold Coast to kick deep with them there in their
half and our backfield we were able to get some
really good momentum. So there are two sort of pleasing
parts of our game. And then defensey, I thought, you know,
we apart from him scoring in the first few minutes,
I thought we held our line pretty well for the
most and you know they were they looked threatening when
you know they put early Kickson behind us, and and

(02:37):
maybe when they got an offload on us. But all
in all, I thought, you know, we defended, defended really well.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
The halves combo, Chanelle and Tanner the general play, they're
kicking their partnership with one another. Do you reckon that
was their best performance together this season?

Speaker 4 (02:53):
Yeah? Possibly, Jason. I you know, I haven't quite looked
at the game closer enough you'd have watched half of it,
but you know, they both complemented each other really well.
I thought Tanner voids long long kicking game was spot on,
and you know Chanelle came up for a couple of
nice touches too. So you know, having a left footed
kicker and a right footed kicker certainly gives you some

(03:14):
good options.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
How big a player is Roger Tivasischek for you?

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Yeah, look, he certainly you know, he found found a
place from south there on the left wing, and you
know he's really focused on what he wants and he's
a good thing about him. You know, he's gone after
the game. You know, when you know the Tighters were
kicking the ball back to Atitude was one that was
getting a lot of a lot of benefits and he
certainly gets our sets going. And then you know when
we kicked the ball, he come up to a nice

(03:40):
play where he contested the ball and got a tap
back and Adam went over and scored. Sob Rogers, you know,
I think for the last sut of ten weeks he's
been one of our best players.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Can you talk also face about the development and the
progress that you're seeing in your younger players?

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Yeah, yeah, really good. You know, I was just sitting
here with Web and we're talking about some of the
young kids and what they know they're output in the
game is you know, Tanasta is starting, you know and
getting some really good minutes. And then the Metric and
Lecquer and Eddie ye're a mia come on. And then
the players that you know have got good insents on them,
in particular Tanner and and Eddie and Lecker and Dimitric.

(04:21):
We know about their power and strength, but the other two,
you know, they played big minutes and you know we
losing Jackson Board last night. All sorry last week. For
a few weeks, you know, we thought it can be
a big loss. But I thought Eddie and Tanner really
stood up and took places of what Jacko usually does
for us.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
In terms of the work ons. Do you do you
look at the lake the two late trice you can
see it even though the game was signed up by
by the end. Do you look at that?

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Yeah? Look, yeah, you know we do. You know that
was disappointing parts of the game for us, but you
know that's a gold Coast can do. And we knew
that they were going to move the board, get off
loads and kick early on us, and you know, and
it came off and then you know they're they're risky players,
but they had to do something. But yeah, we're probably
there's a moment now. I thought we were. We had
him on the road and we might have thrown a

(05:07):
loose part and they got and got momentum down the
other end. So that was the pointy part because we
could have possible and scored a few more points.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Did the recent record against the Titans get talked about
it all in the build up to last night?

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Not at all? No, No, not at all. Yeah, we
just sort of processed them with what we need to do.
You know, I think you know, they only probably talked
around that was probably what you know, you guys were
saying the media and all of that, you know, the
outside noisy, but we never mentioned all within our group.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
And I don't know how many key Wes live on
the Gold Coast, but I think most of them must
have been there last night. How was the crowd? It
was like a home game.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
It was unreal. Yeah, it was like a home game.
It felt like, Yeah, Mount's mart Or GoMedia was unreal
the sport we had and yeah, boys really really loved
it and it was a great, great place for the
last night.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
All right, just to finish. Top four remains in your
own hands. How does the week week ahead look for
you as you as you prepare for for Parameta.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
Yeah, look, big day tomorrow for us, Tuesday off voice
for freshing up, and then we focused on Paramta. So
we've we've sort of got to look at review last
last last performance tomorrow and then yeah, crack on. But
Parameda playing some really really good footing, so they're going
to be gonna be a tough game for us. But

(06:29):
you know, we're We know that, you know, if we
put together the performance, we want to be in the
top four. So it's in our ends, all right.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Have a relaxing flight home, Stace. Thanks for taking our.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Call mate pleasures. Thanks Jase, Thanks no, thank.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
You, Stacy. Stacey Jones the assistant coach of the Warriors.
