Oh join us for Friday sports check off.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
His News Talk said B's All Sports Breakfast host Adam
Cooper Morning Groups and weekend sports host Jason Pine Morning Pine,
Can I just take this opportunity to congratulate you for
getting Sports Broadcaster of the Year for the second year
in a row.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
That's an extremely fair, extremely it's even harder. He's three
feet at it.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
We need to move, We need to move.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
He even likes anyone, does he? He's always like this
Coop city. He doesn't like anyone talking about her.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
He's on to the next award.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Street. What is after three peat? What comes after three beat?
Come on, let's get on with it. Can we talk
about rugby?
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Or we let's talk about the Hurricanes and Canberra last
Saturday night. Let's talk about that quick, because I want
to go into the awards night because I know you
hosted it and not allowed to talk about I was
come to you, Coops because Piney won't want to talk
about it. It was a bit of a disappointing game,
wouldn't it.
Speaker 5 (01:32):
Oh yeah, disappointing from a Hurricanes' perspective. I don't you
know they I think what was probably most disappointing was
that we've seen what they were capable of in a
you know, tough match scenario over the last sort of
five six weeks. At the round robin, they had that
great winning streak, they hadn't been beaten for over six weeks,
which actually you know that that winning streak started when
(01:52):
they last went to Canberra and had a really good
hard foot went over the Brumbies. But there was just
something that wasn't clicking the other night. And I think,
you know, when Hurricanes got off on the on the
right foot, got a few early tries, but the Brumby's
just really found a way to just mash them up
front and just you know, those the likes of James
Slipper and others just really got the better of them
up front. And you know, when it got to early
(02:14):
to midway through the second half and they were down
by fourteen. There's not many teams that in Canberra and
zero degrees would just be able to have that now
is to fight back, and they got close. They had
a couple of opportunities right at the end there to
get back, you know, to possibly level things up, but
just not to be And I think, you know, they
had so much momentum to come to such a crashing
holt like that not helps by the upset of you know,
(02:35):
the Blues beating the Chiefs, but you know, they never
had to rely on that. They never should have been
relying on that, but that would have been a loophole
for them and that wasn't there either. So it was
just a really disappointing sudden end to a really good campaign.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Piney, it just felt to me, and you know, I'm
a great observer of sport that we were peaking at
the right time. I honest thought it was going to
be a Chiefs Hurricanes final and anything.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Could have happened. That's how I was feeling about it.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, I think, Look, the momentums are funny thing. Some coaches,
players don't believe in it at all. They don't particularly think, Okay,
if you've won six in a row, that doesn't necessarily
mean you're more likely to win the seventh game. Others
will say, yeah, actually it is a thing because you're
so confident from having stacked wins on top of each
other that even from losing positions, you think, hey, we
(03:21):
can get back into this as we did.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
You don't know how to lose.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Yep, No, that's it. And winning is a habit, as
they say, I mean, very much like this radio show,
winning is a habit, and so yeah, and Coops is
right just even listening to your chat about it than keeps.
It just came to a crash.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
It just finished.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
It finished last Saturday night, just before midnight, when the
final whistle, when I went that, it was really quite deflating.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
You know what I say to Saints teams over the years,
I say, you know, if you lose a final, it's
okay because no one's playing tomorrow, you know what I mean.
And you you're on the big stage and a final
can always go anyway, can't they. But if you're not
at the big dance, if you're not at the final,
no matter what, you're disappointed.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Well that's because I mean. The Hurricanes this week have
been doing the end of season reviews, while the Crusaders,
the Chiefs and the Blues have been training for another
rugby game.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
And possibly have got two more games, you know, two
more games, not one more game, two more games. Tell
us quickly about the awards night, because I mean, you know,
you know how I feel about dupleif you know that
I'm I'm his biggest fan and I'm and I'm going
to be the guy that celebrates most when he gets
that black jersey and he took everything out.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Yeah, he won the he won the Supreme award. Player
of the Year. That's the big one fans. Player of
the Year too, so popular with a lot of fans.
Billy Proctor was Players Player of the Year and Tavita
Muffa Lee or the front row got most I proof
good night they said goodbye to some departing players. I
like the way the Hurricanes do their awards night. It's
it's very much.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Just tell us about that, because when you told me
this morning, I had a bit of a tear.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
I mean, it's not it's not a big They don't
invite sponsors, they don't invite you know anyway. It's just
really the players, the staff and their partners.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
And it's quite emotional when they say goodbye to the
departing players. But also a celebration, but they didn't want
to be there, you know, they didn't want to earn
what their award's not for a couple of weeks, but
it was still you know, they reflected on a on
a you know, a season which didn't live up to expectation.
But I just get the feeling about this team that
there might be you know, very bright times ahead in
(05:28):
the next time.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
You think they'll stick together and go.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Yeah, well they're not losing anybody, anyone, no one really
important anyway. Plus Jeordie's coming back, so look out next year.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Okay, let's talk about the playoffs, because I now become
a Blues fan. I mean I always like Blues when
Bowden Barrett went there, I'm sorry to say I'm a
bit of a Blues fan. I love the Hurricanes. I
wanted the Hurricans, but my next best team is the Blues.
So I left with seven. I left watching it with
seven or eight minutes to go the sebbe so I
thought they were gone. And then I get home and
they've won. I mean, pretty massive turn around their coops.
(05:58):
Let's talk tonight Blues versus Crusaders. Now, anyone that's been
watching rugby for more than two minutes. Know that this
is a very very.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Game, huge game.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
Yeah, and I think there's a lot of hope and
in this Blues team. But also I don't know. You
just look at what the Crusaders are are like come
playoff time. You know, you're right off last year and
that was the whole season of disappointment. But then you
look at this year, look at where they've been. You
look at this just a monumental home record. They have
thirty straight games and super rugby players that they've had
(06:29):
at home. They have not been defeated.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
If you go on pineyse things they're about to know.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
Well, quite possibly, But I just think you know that
they have they have just you know, they haven't always
had been one hundred percent. You know this year they've
they've had their ups and downs, but they just seem
to find.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Away you're not going to see.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
I actually don't care who wins. I think the Crusade
as well, just after the way the hurricane season ended,
I just I just struck my shoulders and think one
of them, go for it, do it. I don't really care.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Okay, so you don't care, Piney, who do you think?
Speaker 4 (07:00):
I don't care either. But but I think the Crusaders
will win. I hope the Blues win so that the
will play the Chiefs next week in the and the
So I would like the Chiefs to win Super Rugby.
I think they've been the best team across the season.
I think it's their time and I think they'd quite
like to welcome the Blues back two weeks after having
(07:20):
lost to them in Hamilton, to beat them in the
Grand Final in the half.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
I mean, that's Boston Celtics Los Angeles Lakers, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
I mean, that's the big one. I mean, it's the
big one.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
That's gonna happen though. The Crusaders are gonna win it.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
You're gonna win the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Wow, we.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Don't need to leave christ chich now. They win tonight,
they host the Grand Final next week, they don't even
have to leave the three.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
That's a big call there from a master, you know,
Ryan Fox. I mean, come on, we all now become
a fan of Ryan Fox, haven't we keep so?
Speaker 2 (07:53):
I mean, we love them, don't we? We always have.
But now he's bigger.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
He's bigger and obviously really challenging you is, And that's
just started this morning. You haven't got it on your
TV now that you've got some travel show on, but I.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Have got It's been a plane crash if you didn't know.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
The US Open has been on this morning in Pennsylvania,
and Jesus, it's been fascinating party. And I've been sitting
there kind of probably feeling a bit better about our
own golfing game seeing some of the scores from some
of these top sivers.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Where's Foxy So he sees.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
About middle of two over in the first round, which
is which is absolutely fine, Absolutely fine. Here's only I
think six shots back from the lead. You don't win
it on the first round, but you can go a
long way towards not making the cart. Two overs fine,
two is fine on the course.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Okay, let's talk tomorrow night. Saints come back to town.
Haven't been in town for a while, still missing and
possibly could be more serious than we think.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Shay eally.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
So Tuatara peaking at the right time, got all their players.
Very big game for the Saints. I you know, it's
it's almost like they win, they finished second and get
a home semi final.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
They lose, they're in real trouble.
Speaker 5 (09:00):
Yeah, it's looking. It's really tight contest, isn't it. Two
top five teams. I think the Saints have managed to
you know, I know at all always hasn't been pretty neck,
but they have managed to grind out games pretty well
this season with the personnel that they've had, and you know,
they've got the real, the real workhorses of the likes
to likes of azale Atha Haram Harris. They're just constantly
delivering the minutes and and the stats, the rebounds, the
(09:21):
points in particular, and seeing Nick Marshall, who I'm lucky
enough to have a chat with on the show tomorrow,
just you know, coming over from Australia with Adelaide and
and rarely contributing in high numbers to the Saints as well,
so they they've got the makings of that good Obviously
Shyly's absence is noted and is of a concern, but
obviously won't be there tomorrow night. So I'm gonna be
a great occasion against Tutada, who very good team.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
And peaking at the right time.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Winning is a habit. Winningar a a good team.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
It's cam Glydden coach. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
I think the Saint to win the game too.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Yeah, I wish, I wish I had your I mean,
I'm not I'm not unconfident, but I'm it's a very,
very but one of the biggest games the last couple
of years. I reckon because it so much unfolds from
you know, I mean home semi final, as big as
we all know in any sport. Oh, Adam Cooper, Jason Pine,
thank you both for joining us this morning. Have a
great show tomorrow, both of you. I got to listen
(10:17):
to your show yesterday last Saturday, Coops. I don't not
normally get up there early on a Saturday morning.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
I listened to you. I always listen to you, Piney,
So I'm lucky enough. But it was lovely, very lucky.
You know what.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
I really really enjoyed it. I really really enjoyed it.

and nine tomorrow morning, tune into this station and listen
to Adam Cooper Sport and in the afternoon from twelve
Saturday and Sunday, Jason Pine, who goes nationwide with He
comes in with all his trophies under his arms and
he sticks them around the studio. He goes one, two, three,
(10:47):
