Speaker 1 (00:07):
You're listening to the Wellington Mornings podcast with Nick Mills
from news talks at b Eiggs, new releases and keeping
tabs on local artists his music time on Wellington Mornings.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Every couple of Tuesdays we sneak James Erminen from his
studio to our studio. His is very, very plush compared
to it. He's got the plush recording studio where people
come and record their ads and he does all the
music stuff for all the companies involved with us.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Morning James, Morning, Morning Morning.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
So we want to talk about the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
Yeah, So it's just been announced to all the inductees
for twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Now.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been going
since nineteen eighty three. The very first inductees ever were
the Everly Brothers in nineteen eighty six and nineteen eighty seven,
the Beach Boys were inducted, and then and the Beatles
Sorry in eighty seven, and then the Stones and the
Temptations in eighty nine. So I'm as we only one one,

(01:09):
not always one.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
But at the start there were only one.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
So there's a few a bit of criteria which I'll
tell you after we've played it. But there's some criteria
of how you get in. So in eighty seven it
was quite hard. Eighty six it was quite hard to
get in for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
But we'll talk about this as we go on. So
you know, it's it's a dream for many artists, but
it's also some think it's, you know, not so great,
and there's been a few sour grapes over the years.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Today, we're going to.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Listen to who's been nominated in twenty twenty five, and
then we're going to see the travesty of artists or
bands who you might be surprised to hear that they're
not in the Hall of Fame. Let's have her listen
to the first lot of who's in for twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Chubby Checker.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
Real, so he's taken a while to get the end.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Of a one hit wonder one.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Yeah, well two hits there come you remember these guy?

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Yeah, they were huge, whole surprise. And then Joe Cocker
has not been in the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Joe Cocker has to be.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
He's been inducted before, he's been nominated before, but not
so there.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
We go joke.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Oh, Joe Cocker has to be here.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Yeah, yeah, he's got to be a winner this year.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
That's what I thought, all right, So then let's have
listened to a few who knowpe they're not in.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Goodness, Wait a minute, that's that's that's the inn. This
is an inn. That's all right, we'll kick going. These
are in some more inns.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
Billy Idol, It's nasty, Joe Cocker, Joe Cockets Tall, Yeah, yeah,
he's Black Crows. I don't reckon they're going to be
nominated for the album Southern American Rock New Order and
coming up Joy Division. So of this loot so far,
I still reckon Joe Cocker is the only give two

(03:04):
or three or maybe four going Joe Copperbeine.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
So that's a couple of couple of inns.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
So to get in you have to have a debut
album that is at least twenty five years old. So
you can't just you know, you can't be you know,
someone can't be Lord. Lord's not going to get nominated
for a while. She's got a while to go. She's
got away another probably another seventeen years or something since
she put out it, more than maybe seven yeah, maybe even.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
More than that.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
So you have to have a and then and they're
not just necessarily looking at and they're not looking at
solely commercial success, so you might have to be really innovative.
You might have to have a very good back catalog.
If you came in with one album and then disappeared,
you're probably not going to make the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame, which is a good thing. So let's
have her listen to a note. We've got a nope,
we can play. Yeah, let's have a listeners.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Because its Huey Lewis in the news. I was surprised.
I thought he might have made it pretty great banded,
very good band, huge.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
Tens of millions of album success. Tracy Chapman, I was
surprised about this as well.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
I I would have thought so he nomination.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
One Gentleman in the mid eighties with this, A couple
of huge albums there, but hasn't done a lot.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
So maybe, Oh, Brian.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
Adams, come on, not a I'm not a fan, but
I would have thought he might have been there.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Just had us.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
Did you see he just had a concert canceled in
Melbourne or Sydney because the toilets weren't working in the
stadium and it was actually in perse I was in
perfect Now I'm going to tell you that my daughter
went to the concert at the John Kine Arena in
Melbourne twenty eighteen thousand.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
She said it was incredible. I reckon he'd be a showman. Acredible.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
She said it was a great show.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Last week, Yeah, giving up with the play, all.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Right, let's have another note. Let's go on the notes again.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
Other monkeys, Well, they were kind of a novelty.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Yeah, reality television van. Yeah, that's what they were with
meadlighte give myself an up. But cart how's the meat not?

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yeah, come on, I would have thought the meat loaf
would have been there.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yeah, meat he should have been there.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
Ah.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
We talked about I'm playing as well, tesB Arena.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Soon, Tote and Thin Lizzie. But then if your catalog huge,
I don't know fin Lizzie as much.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
No, that was a big song.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Was a hundred millions of plays on Spotify.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, big song.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
But yeah, but maybe that's maybe they're one hit wonder,
isn't he Joe Cockers still Yeah, Joe Cocker is leading
the absolutely leading the thing there. So you can vote listeners.
You can vote Ethan the producer. You can vote fan vote,
and I voted this morning fan vote rockhall dot com.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
But if you just search.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame you can get in there.
You can vote every day, so there's a thousand. So
what happens is is a committee of fifteen people love me,
a committee who doesn't love a committee who just signed
vote committee, and then the fifteen commit that. Then the
committee sends it out to about twelve hundred industry professionals,
which would be journalists. So you know, I'm waiting for

(06:13):
my you know.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Them to send the credit, your accreditation.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Yeah, my creditation to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,
and obviously you'll be you'll be getting accredited as well, Nick.
And then they take fan votes as well. They've been
doing that since about twenty thirteen.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
So go and vote.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
You know, if you've got a favorite band that we're
playing this morning, go and vote. Let's have another listen
to another in twenty five Who's in the White Stripes?

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Really?

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Yeah, I was quite surprised that this was a big song,
but huge song. This is not rock and Roll Hall
of Fame, no fringe kind of album.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
Ah, here's a contender, absolute contenders.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Next, Yes, Scoon, this Base.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Well, I mean I like their music, but I didn't
like them as a band.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
And Soundgarden again huge, But a friend gen x is
like myself, would be like, oh yeah, we're wearing our
off shorts and our terrible haircuts in the nineties.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
We loved them, but I.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Don't know if they were Hall of Fame.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
No, I don't know if they're Hall of fame. And
maybe he's there in because Chris Canal passed away that
sort of thing.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
I mean, who do you know any of the ones
that we'd recognized as Hall of famers that to show
the standard that we've got.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
Oh, I mean huge we've got. I mean let's tell
you what.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
Let's have a look at I mean some big ones, Elton, Freddie,
George Michael, Janis, Joplin, Dusty Springfield. Interestingly, all of them
don't identify as heterosexual. Maybe we should be all downstorming
a few churches this weekend and playing a bit of
that outside. Okay, we probably shouldn't say that.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
All right, I mean, I just wanted to see the standard.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
I mean, the standard's huge.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
Have we had any new Zealand bands in the Hall
of Fame. No we haven't, but I reckon there is
a contender.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Well, it's only there's only who would you say, well
that crowded house?

Speaker 4 (07:57):
Yes, why isn't crowded house? Have we had any New
Zealand musicians play in the Hall of Fame at the
big inductee night, Yes, we have have who that is
a young young artist. We've already talked about it. Lord
Lord played with the remaining members of Nirvana and she
sung all apologies and it's a cracker. It also makes

(08:19):
me think I got on an absolute run where I
watched all these YouTube you know, because they have all
these great musicians playing on you know, playing on the night,
and they usually either the band will play their own
songs or they get other artists to play. Now there
is an absolute firecracker of a set where Prince is
playing Jeff Beck, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood. Prince just looks

(08:45):
like a legend and yeah, yeah, yeah, it's absolutely an
Actually it was the best of all of them. There's
another one where you two are playing all their own songs.
Of course you two didn't get other musicians to play.
They played their own songs and you know what's the
Lost Place with them and that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
I don't know whether you've seen it, but Stairway to
Heaven with John Bono's son playing the orchestra and that
have you seen that?

Speaker 3 (09:08):
I haven't seen that.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Oh my gosh, one.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
With uh what's the yard Birds? The Leed Zeppelin guitarist.
I was, I'm having a complete mind blank. Jeff Becke, Yeah,
Jeff Beck and know that, oh you know, Jeff Bick.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Okay, Jimmy Page give playing the Immigrant song and that's
a beauty. You're gonna have a look.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Okay, I'll look at that. But you look at the
Stairway to Heaven with John Bono, who's here the drummer.
He was, yeah, yeah, son, right, give us some gigs
you've got Yeah, we've got fifteen seconds.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
We've got hot sounds with oem D Diesel, the Knars,
Thompson Twins, John Stevens from Noise Works and Inexcess and
Excesses haven't been in died in either inducted e. But
and also we've got pottery that's less than two weeks away,
second of March and pottery of Rocks Saturday, May third,
I'm going to bang on about that right up until
the go so many good things.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Go and vote for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
Jason, and always a pleasure to thank you very much.
It's always that. I mean, if you get a bit
gets a bit busy and speedy with the music stuff,
it's because James Werwin is speedy and music.
