Speaker 1 (00:07):
You're listening to the Wellington Mornings podcast with Nick Mills
from News Talk SEDB.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
The Dark Destroyer is back in New Zealand at the
moment with a quiz night next Tuesday, the eleventh of
November at eighteen forty one Bar and Restaurant. And he's
here just in time for The Chase New Zealand's release tonight.
And it's lovely to speak to Sean Wallace again.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Good morning Sean, Good morning Nick. How are you sir?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
It's been a while.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Yeah, it's been a while to the last folk yet,
so I'm glad that was speaking good right.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
I mean, why are you in the country first, lea.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Well, the reason why I'm in the country, Nick, is
because of the fact that I'm here on an eight
city tour to help ways to profile and there's a
lot of money for cure kids.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Okay, now, can I just tell people our listeners a
little story. We're about to talk to you a while
ago and then a young person with cancer walked in
and was and wanted to talk to you, and you said, sorry,
I can't talk right now. I've got something more important
to do. And it broke my heart.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Yeah, I hope you didn't feel offended, but you can
understand the reason why it was important to me to
speak to young kids. So it was really really important.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah, No, I didn't feel offended at all. So how
did the conversation go? Tell us about it, because now
we're teasing people about it.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah, we were talking about this young kid, you know,
he'd got cancer, and he was telling me about his
story and his journey, and and it was just wonderful
for me to actually, you hear that story, and I
was reinspired by his journey, his courage, his fortitude, and
you know, it's stories like that which you know, make

(01:50):
me want to actually try and do more, to try
and help people, especially with that horrible disease to call cancer.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Well, good luck with the tour, and thank you for coming.
Let's talk the Chase, and good luck to him. Good
luck to him. All our soul goes into him and
has help Sean as a country, we love the Chase.
Why Why Why? And I'm one of them. I'm one
of the fans. It's just another guy at the office.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I suppose it is. You've got four different geniuses and
six different geniuses in terms of the Chasers. But I
suppose what really meets the show together is that we've
got a post in Bradley Walsh and I'm so pleased
that Finding New Zealand have decided to actually have their
own version of the Chase, and I think it's fantastic.

(02:37):
I do hope that when the show obviously becomes more
and more successful, that we actually have a New Zealand Chaser.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Do you think that could be possible.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
I think that's more than possible. I've met some really
good Quizzards since I've been coming to New Zealand over
the last five or six years. No much so than
a guy called Jonathan Moore is actually fantastic. I mean
he puts me to show in terms of his knowledge,
so you know, there's loads and loads of people can
actually become a New Zealand Chaser and become as well

(03:10):
known and as successful as I am. So that's I
hope that would be the goal, rather than having the
established names like the Governess or like Supernerd were excellent,
but it would be I think a tribute to New
Zealand quizzes if they actually have their own New Zealand Chaser.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
If you've just joined the show, we're talking to Sean
Wallace the Dark Destroyer. What do you know about Paul
Henry our host? Do you know anything about him?

Speaker 3 (03:36):
I've seen him. I think he's gonna make a very
good host. All I really want him to do is
to bring his own style. You know, people try and
imitate the best and sometimes it doesn't really work. So
I'm sure Paul's going to be a fantastic host. As
long as he's himself and comes across naturally, I'm sure
he will. Then the show is for mere for no

(03:57):
more success, Sean.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
I can promise you one thing that he will not
try and be anyone else but himself, as ego will
not allow that.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Good.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
So a couple of quick questions that I want to
throw at you, right, I mean, it's one that I
want to finish with, but I'm not going to finish
with that yet. But a couple of little quick ones.
I want you to know, what's the capital of.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
New Zealand Wellington?

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Pretty good flat white or English breakfast tea when you
wake up in the morning against sorry flat white or
an English breakfast tea when you wake up in the morning.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
I normally have orange juice. Although the other day answer
a question it was around on coffee and it was
New Zealand and the Australia were responsible for what type
of coffee and loads of people in England got it.
So that was a quick question I said last week.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
What was the answer? Flat white?

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Flat white?

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Okay? If you could challenge one famous Kiwi dead or
alive to a Chase style showdown, who would it be?

Speaker 3 (04:57):
I think it would be probably this and wonderful Kiwis
who looked up as heroes. I suppose if I ever
challenged one to a showdown, would have to be Edmond Hillary.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Oh my gosh. Is there one topic that you're not
good at?

Speaker 3 (05:13):
You know what? Every Achilles has a heel? Mine is
definitely soaps. If I don't know the answer, I'll just
simply have a guess I'm not really good so at all.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Ah. If you had to change your name, what would
it be?

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Uh to? I don't think I would change my name
to be fair.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
You see, this is my last question for you, because
this is what concerns me. If if you were a
star in New Zealand on the program exactly the same,
put yourself in the scenario the Wope New Zealand, the
Wope New Zealand world would not let you be called
the dark.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Destroyer, whereas I would want to be called a dark destroyer.
And I tell you the reason why, Nick, I'm dark
because I'm proud to me black and I've destroyed people
with my intellect, simple as that.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
And I love you. I think you're the you know
you're the greatest. Just another day at the office. I mean,
I just I love all that stuff. But you know,
the woke world wouldn't let that happen in New Zealand.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
I'm sure they wouldn't. But as I say, if I'm insistent,
I want to be known as a darts world because
I'm proud to be black and I'm bringing it in
my intellect, then they've got to accept it.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Have a great trip to Wellington and hopefully I'll catch
up with you. I'll come out and sees you know,
the guy that owns the pub that you're working AT's
a very good guy, really really good.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
We've got one more table left on the Tuesday, but Masterson,
the day before, we want people to come out because
I say, kill kids is wonderful. I mean, today I
just met a young guy called Isaac who was telling
me his story and the courage he's shown in relation
to his fight, his determination to you know, beat cancer

(06:49):
with you know or inspiring, and that's one of the
reason why I'm here, Nick, So please, please please people
come out at Marsden, make sure you come out at Waynington.
I will be giving out some spot prizes, some really
good spot prizes, so please make sure you come.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Amazing. Thank you for talking to us again. Sean. Appreciate you,
Appreciate everything you do, and I'll be watching it five
thirty tonight as I cook my dinner. Thank you, appreciate you,
sing me thank you fine Shawn Wallace The Dark Destroyer.
