(00:10):
You know, I was saying,as American as apple pie, mar the
love apple pie, we love applepop. I never had it. I
never had it. You never hadYou've never had apple pie? I never
have. Well, today's the day. Today is National apple Pie Day.
Sweet as apple pot, National applePie Day. What pie the apple pie?
You get the apple pie? I'llgo by the ice cream. Oh,
let's make a day of it.Showtime, all right, showtime,
(00:33):
my friend's National apple Pie Day today after Mother's Day. I'm surprised that
today when I woke up and realizedearly this morning that it's National apple Pie
Day, I was surprised as anybody. I thought National apple Pie Day,
being such an American treat, mightbe at the uh maybe around the fourth
of July, right, That's kindof what I was thinking. But no,
(00:54):
it's National apple Pie Day. Ilike a good apple pie. Don't
get a very off but baseball hotdog apple pie Chevrolet remember that, and
and it's a national part of Yeah, it's National apple Pie Day today.
Who would have known? I wouldhave never known that, but it is.
It's today. Happy Where do youget an apple pie? There are
(01:17):
a couple of restaurants that are pies. What is it? The is it
the Perkins? I believe has pieregularly, that's where you get your pies.
Had the Perkins? Is that whatit's called? I think so well,
it sounds good. You know.McDonald's had those apple pies that were
kind of the little things. Theymade a hot apple pie. Those were
much better when they fried those.I think they bake them our air fryme
(01:38):
now. But remember back in theold days when we were kids and got
to eat fun things. The applepies were fantastic at McDonald's. Do they
still make those. I don't evenknow if they make those at McDonald's anymore.
But the kind of a it's morelike a doughnut, more like a
clare type with an apple filling inthere. But I don't know if they
still make those at the at theand the McDonald's anymore. Anybody gone through
(02:02):
the McDonald's recently, They have avery trimmed down menu. It's fascinating,
of course, the COVID they reallyshut down the lot of their menu,
and they're still very profitable, stillmaking a lot of money, but it's
basically four different kinds of hamburgers, and they've thrown a chicken here and a
fish there. But it's very trimmeddown, which again I don't fault them
(02:23):
from trimming down. You go toa place like In and Out and they
serve burgers. That's what they do. They do. They don't try to
give you a chicken nugget or achicken sandwich. Nope, you're gonna get
a burger. It's a burger.So again I don't fault them. But
I say that because sometimes I willgo through and I like the McDonald's better
whenever they would have the one dollardrinks. Now their drinks are outrageous because
(02:44):
I sometimes drive down the road likeI need a diet coke right now,
and don't don't judge me. Ineed a dyet coke. And McDonald's used
to be a great place. Youcan get a large one for a buck
about you know about a buck sevenor something with a tax on it.
And now they're a couple of bucks. They don't have the bargains they used
to drinks. And if you andI'll give you a warning, a fair
warning, never ever, ever,if you have a hanker in for that
(03:06):
diet coke driving down the road, never go to the burger King you drive
through there that charged three dollars andfifty cents for a large drink, or
it's just crazy, it's just outrageous. Yeah. No, I know everybody's
gonna say, well, if you'regoing to get a drink in a cup,
why don't you go to like theconvenience stores there's seven elevens, or
the Coming Goes or the Mavericks. They I know it, but sometimes you
(03:29):
just you're working, you're busy, you're talking on the phone. You want
to just order it and don't wantto have to get out of the car.
I'm lazy, Okay, leave mealone anyway. National Apple Pie Day.
I don't know if all that wasa kind of a rabbit trail.
I don't know. Does McDonald's stillserve apple pies because now I'm hungry for
apple pies and I again I mightwe go through the drive. Hopefully they
don't, because you know I don't. It's not on my diet. I
(03:51):
was not on the diet at all. So no apple pie today. But
it is National apple Pie Day.That's right that I think it's the Perkins,
right is what's the village in villagein has pies? Thank you?
I just got a text message villaginthey have pies and some places have like
sugar free pies. That's true.I need to check the calorie counter or
(04:13):
the carb counts on those. Butan apple pie, Happy National apple Pie
Day. It means it's good tobe an American because we have apple pies
today. But I had no wordon the McDonald's. If anybody, let's
send me a message, Jimy leakid, iHeartMedia dot com. Does McDonald's
still serve those apple pies? Idon't think they do. I don't remember
seeing them on the menu when Iordered my diet coke. I just don't
remember seeing them on the menu.So maybe fast food desserts are gone.
(04:40):
You know. Maybe McDonald's had tostop making their ice cream machines are always
broken to the McDonalds, so maybethey're apple pie machines broken now as well.
I don't know. Maybe they stillserve those. All right. Good
to have you here on the show. If you want to jump in,
Jimmy is my name? Eight sixsix, triple eight fifty four forty nine
Apple Pie Day in America, NationalApple Pie Day. You're welcome and congratulations.
(05:01):
Let's see continuing the post Mortim. If you want to go back and
hear the rest of that Barb Kirkmeyerinterview, I'll play some more of it.
But it was a fascinating interview. She is very optimistic as to what
had been accomplished by the state legislature. I like the optimism in a state
that the Republicans have a super minority, I meaning the other team has a
(05:23):
supermajority in the state legislature. Kirkmeyerwas very optimistic as to what had happened.
Now, there are some differing viewpointson that property tax cut that some
people say it really wasn't a cut. Now, Barb Kirkmeyer, in her
defense, didn't say it was acut. She says it was relief.
And that's so they got a littleparsing of the words here, because what
(05:46):
it does is it slows the rateof growth, but we're still going to
have property tax increasing over the courseof time. A lot of different interpretations
between even conservatives and Republicans. Onreading the team leaves Michael Fields, he
tweets out property taxes go up underthis proposal. Paying more is not saving
(06:09):
Coloradoan's money. Because Jared Polos, talking about the bill that passed at the
last minute bipartisan and Barb Kirkmier veryexcited about it. Lisa Frozell is very
excited about him. We are focusedon saving Coloradoan's money on property taxes and
making Colorado more affordable. No oneshould be priced out of their home because
they can't afford their property tax bill, and this bipartisan effort will help support
(06:32):
current and future homeowners as well.So Michael Field said, property taxes going
up isn't saving Coloradoin's money. We'restill going to have an increase here.
Christy Burton Brown tweeted out the propertytax bill does not cut property taxes,
but instead of paying an effective sixpoint three percent this year, you'll pay
six point eight percent next year.Only in government math does that equal to
(06:56):
tax cut. And so she talksabout how advanced Colorado is still going to
put some real property tax cuts onthe ballot for the people to decide since
our state legislature couldn't get the jobdone. And again go to listen to
the interview, but Mark Kirkmeyer, she says she was taking a heat from
both sides. Some people don't thinkthis went far enough. Some people think
it's not what they say it is. But Kirkmeyer had I think a very
(07:19):
good point that they're one vote awayfrom the Democrats have a super majority in
one chamber and one vote away froma super majority in the other chamber,
and so sometimes you take what youcan get. Colorado peak politics regarding this
tax cut bill says only in Democratpolitics does not equal to tax cut.
(07:41):
And by making the equation determine thetaxes so difficult, so convoluted, they
argued that no one really knows howto interpret this as either a tax cut
or a tax increase. No oneknows what to do right now. The
Trump case, there's a prosecution hascalled Michael Cohen to the stands. Michael
Cohen has been convicted of prevarication before, and a lot of folks over the
(08:05):
weekend, and again I still thinkthis is a non favorable jury pool,
probably for Trump. But it isinteresting that some folks on the cable news
networks, we'll get a little nervous. Why is the prosecution called Michael Cohen
and Stormy Daniels. That's two probablynot great reliable witnesses that would have credibility
(08:26):
issues in any other probably legal jurisdiction. But again that's a very non Trump
jurisdiction there where the trial's happening, and so they may get by with Michael
Cohen and Stormy Daniels. But therewere some nerves happening there on the There
are some nerves that happened out thereover the weekend about Stormy Daniels. And
now Michael Cohen supposedly looks very nervous. Not sure if that's the case.
(08:48):
Supposedly looks very very nervous. DearJimmy got an email. Dear Jimmy,
do you have a favorite in thefinal three on the American Idol? You
know? No, I don't.I don't. Will Mosely is I always
try to figure out if it's howyou know, is it really a vote
to the people. There's a younglady Abbey, I believe us her name.
(09:11):
She's very good. I haven't figuredit necessarily. I haven't been a
huge fan. I don't dislike her. Jack Blocker is on there and Will
mostly they're the top three. Tristangot dumped last night. He was a
fifteen year old kid, was homelessat times. A great great story there.
I don't know who's going to winthat thing. Will mostly a country
(09:33):
country artist Jack Blocker probably has thepretty boy, kind of good looking guy
that maybe all the young ladies arevoting for, and then there's one lady
I don't. I don't know.The finale is coming Sunday. I will
watch the finale, I really will. I always watch it, but I
don't. I don't have it necessarilya favorite. I haven't even voted in
(09:54):
a couple of weeks because I've beenwatching it late. I've been watching it
on delay so I can fast forwardto all the comer so I have not
even been a good voter in thatso it moves so quick. And by
the way, if the producers ofAmerican Idol listening to this show, and
there's every reason that they should be, because everyone should listen to the show,
I have a problem with how they'redoing things now. One of the
(10:15):
problems I have is that they lastnight they cut two people off of the
program, and they Loretta Lynn's granddaughtergot cut last night and Tristan got cut
up. And yeah, I seetheir names escape me. I don't get
closure. They've done this every timethey announce who moves on to the next
round, and then they're rolling thecredits while they're making that announcement and they
(10:39):
don't let you like visualize, andI'm a visual kind of guy. Visual
there's times I'm like, when didthat candidate or when did that contestant leave?
And I don't remember because they justcalled a name. I need to
put a name of the face. And so they cut two people last night
from the idol and they're gone, and I'm trying to like, I could
just show me their face or theycrying. I want to see their pain.
(11:00):
I want to see their misery.I just like they need to give
more time at the end so thatyou can kind of have a wrap up
moment and not just Okay, thoseare your three contestantcy next week. Poor
time management. It's like Julie McCluskey'srunning the clock there at the she's the
Colorado Speaker of the house by theway for the inside Baseball joke. But
(11:20):
yeah, I don't like the timemanagement. I'd rather have a little bit
of closure, you know. Finalcomment from lored O Lynn's granddaughter, Favery
timid, young lady, very sweetheartof a girl, great voice. Tristan's
just great stories. You'll probably hearfrom them one day in music. I
would guess if they want to pursuethat, but just there's no closure.
(11:41):
They just disappear. They announce whowins, they go to commercials. You
know, they're out of there. As opposed to the old days, they
would always take some time. HeyTristan is great, sorry to see you
go. What's the future? Theyjust cut and go, and it's poor
time management. I think it's badproduction in my estimation. I also think
this year they spent way too muchtime on audition and not enough time on
(12:01):
competition. But I did watch it. I looked at my DVR last night.
I think I have twelve or thirteenepisodes there. I'm like, why
am I saving these? Why amI? I don't know why I'm saving
them, But I still have them, and I could go back and rewatch
them if I want to. SoAmerican Idol Top three finale is coming up
this next Sunday, so I'll beprepared to answer the email question. I
(12:22):
don't have a favorite. I likeWill Mosley, a solid country sound about
the way. He's got a degreein pharmaceutical was a pharmacology. He's got
some big degree science degree and hetook after he got his degree, he
said I'm going to take a yearand see if my country music career works
and if it does more power toit. Other than that, I can
say I got it out of thesystem. So this is his Like,
(12:43):
yeah, I think next year isthe one year market he could win American
Idol. And yeah, there's thegirl that's on Abby is her name.
She's homeschooled, she's got an interestingstory. Jack Blocker. I think Jack
Blocker hurt himself though, And Imean, I love is a good thing.
But he's a young guy, lookslike he looks like he probably just
(13:05):
finished high school. But he's inhis twenties and he's married. And I'm
sure that broke some girls hearts outthere, because he's that kind of good
looking fellow that the ladies would bescreaming at of the television kind of oh
he's my boy, and he's taken, ladies. He's taken by agree.
He's from Dallas, so that's agood thing. He's from Dallas. All
right, there's your American Idol summary. All that saying I don't have a
(13:28):
favorite in the race. I'm sorry, maybe I should. I'll watch it
next week with the rest of you, and it will be good. Hillary
Clinton's being slammed formissive remarks by ourown Democrats. They're calling him dismissive remarks
about students' concerns. There's a lotof Jewish kids that are now filing lawsuits
(13:52):
and filing their own protest in legalforums about hey, we're not safe on
these college campuses. And Hillary Clintonrecently was quoted said, they just don't
know much about all the history ofthe Middle East, and frankly about history
in many areas of the world, including our own country. Specifically, Clinton
pointed to an offer her husband,Bill Clinton, made to Palestinian leader Yasir
(14:16):
Arafat. They don't know that anoffer is made to the Palestinians of a
first state of the ninety six percentof the existing territory four percent of Israel
to be given to reach one hundredpercent of the territory hope for And she's
right, Yasir Arafat said no,I won't take the deal. I'm going
to give you everything you want. And Yasir Arafat said no, And so
(14:37):
she's right. But people are criticizing, saying, you're being dismissive of students'
concerns. The students are concerned aboutthese protests and saying we're not safe on
the campus, and Hillary says theyjust don't understand the complexity of this thing
that I would have a problem.Students are blaming diversity, equity and inclusion.
(14:58):
A matter of fact, I havethis story here USC George Washington,
ut Austin, Rutgers, and Cornellstudents say the campus environment is very dangerous,
it's very anti semitic, and they'resaying part of the problem is there
are DEI Diversity, Equity and Inclusioninitiatives promoting anti semitic viewpoints. George Washington
(15:18):
University Sabrina Soffer, graduated early asa junior in December, told the News
over the weekend there's no balance ofopinions among the faculty. While the school
emphasizes diversity, the only diversity surroundsa single idea. Students are not learning
how to think, but they're learningabout what to think. There's no real
(15:41):
academic rigor that surrounds learning how tothink, just getting pushed, just getting
pushed to get a grade and answerthe questions correctly the way your professor wants
you to. So it's shedding alight. Let's just say that shedding a
light on what's happening in our universitycampuses. And I find it intriguing to
(16:02):
hear more and more people talking abouteven if your kid gets accepted into Harvard
or USC or George Washington, doyou really especially if you've got to pay
the ticket, you got to paythe freight on that, do you really
want to have your kid go indebt or take out a loan, or
pay that hard earned money that you'vebeen saving their entire life to send them
to the university. Do you reallywant to have to spend that on that?
(16:26):
Do you really want to send itto those schools? I think some
of the guild is off the rows, and some people are going to start
looking at maybe we're going to staya little bit more localized. We're not
going to try to send off tothese fancy, fancy schools because it's not
worth the money. By the way, I was shocked to hear, I
guess, Baron Trump, the youngestTrump's son, is graduating high school.
(16:48):
He's eighteen and like twenty feet tall, really tall guy. And evidently no
one's ever heard Baron Trump speak. And over the weekend there was a video
circulating him speaking at an event casualconversation. Someone got it on video and
said, we heard Baron's voice forthe first time. I guess he's contemplating
(17:08):
going to New York University. That'skind of a shocker, isn't it.
I guess daddy got the money.I guess you go there. Be careful,
not very safe place. All right, everybody stand by Lakey on the
radio. Good morning, six hundredkco L. All right, welcome back
(18:07):
to the show. Good to haveyou here. This hour of the program
I brought to you by Dan Caples, Dan Capell's Law, a serious firm
for serious cases. Good to haveyou here. Don't forget my website Jimmy
Lakey dot com. Interviews that I'vebeen mentioning. The Barbara Kirkmeyer interview from
last Friday is there. Also, the Christy Burton Brown interview is up there,
and she's talking about these property taxcuts. You I report, you
(18:33):
decide. You just listen to thesefolks and decide. But the bottom line
is Republicans do not have anywhere closeto a majority of the state legislature,
and sometimes you just have to takewhat you can get. And yeah,
they listen to the barb Kirk Bresh, you're very optimistic, which I appreciated.
And some people are criticizing them fora stay, saying it's a property
(18:55):
tax cup but Barbara didn't say.She said property tax relief and in the
research to make a real bad situationa little bit better. But maybe they
should be spiking the football as much. Good to have you here on the
radio show. Let me ask youa question, fellas have you ladies?
First of all, I want tohave a ladies pay attention when I talk
(19:15):
about men's situations, men issues. It's because when a man has an issue,
let's say an intimate issue, he'sa ed erect out his function.
You know, it hurts a guyvery, very deeply. He feels inadequate,
he feels like he's failed as aman, feels like he failed as
a partner. A man can justfeel like he's just everything's wrapped up.
(19:37):
It can be wrapped up in justthat identity of not being able to be
intimate or being afraid to be intimatebecause things don't work like they used to.
So ladies, please have some graceand let me talk to the guys
here for a second. Guys,if i'm describing you that you're having moments
of failure to perform. Things don'twork like they used to, and maybe
(19:57):
it's gotten so bad or so regularthat you just stopped trying and you avoid
intimacy. I'll tell you almost guarantee, you're harming that relationship. That person
you love is wondering why you're pullthem back and devoiding that and they just
maybe don't understand that. It's justyou want to get back in the game.
Guys, why don't you get backin the game. Talk to the
folks at Rocky Mountain Men's Clinic aboutways they've helped thousands of men, thousands
(20:19):
of men get back in the game, and some guys say they're performing now
like they haven't performed in years. Here's what's going to happen. You're gonna
make an appointment, and again you'renot alone in this. Make an appointment.
You're going to have a medical consultation. Then there's some blood work psat
test and after the medical consultation, they've got a lot of different treatment options.
And if the treatment option for yousome some options testos in the office
(20:44):
of Testos doesn't work in the office, your office visits free. They've helped
again thousands of guys get back inthe game. Some guys thought that part
of intimacy and that part of therelationship was over with, and some guys
say, Wow, I'm back.Rocky Mountain Men's Clinic five locations, Fort
Collins, North, Denver, Central, Denver, Castle, Colorado Springs,
Rockymountain Men's Clinic dot com, RockymountainMen's Clinic dot Com. Be sure to
(21:06):
tell them that Jimmy Lakey's talking abouthim on the radio. Rockymountain Men's Clinic
dot com. All right, yesterdaywas Mother's Day. I hope you have
celebrated your mama appropriately. I gotto fly into the Texas area celebrated to
my mother on Saturday. I hadto get back into town on Sunday,
but just still had a Mother's Dayweekend. I hope you enjoyed that as
(21:26):
well. Hope all you mamas feltappreciated. Speaking of mothers, you're a
mother once you become a By theway, Friday, I said I was
going to try to make it theMother of All radio shows, and someone
sent me a message. On Saturday, Jimmy, I just listened to the
radio show on the iHeartRadio app andDog on it that was the mother of
(21:47):
all radio shows, and I thinkthat's a compliment, so thank you.
I appreciate it. Moms are pickingnew names for their kids, and every
year there's always a list of namesthat come out, and some names are
kind of different than make the list. Social Security Administration has released their annual
list of the most popular baby namesin America and the two tops are the
(22:07):
same as they have been the lastyear. For the second year, third
year in a row. For girls, Olivia is still the top name that
people are registering their children with, and this again comes from the Social Security
Administration. Olivia is the number onefor girls for the fifth year in a
row, and Liam is the topboy's name for the seventh year in a
(22:33):
row, seven years. Liam. You know, I always thought Liam was
short for William, but no,they're just naming the kid Liam. One
new boy's name did crack the topten, though, I went from number
eleven to number six. I'll giveyou that name here just a moment.
But the tenth most popular boys' namesare Are you ready let me give this
to you? Liam? Of course, number one. Noah is number two,
(22:56):
Oliver is number three, James isnumber four, followed by Elijah.
Here's the name that cracked into thetop ten and it went from number eleven
to number six. It's Matteo Matteo, which I guess would be sometimes Matthew,
but Matteo, Theodore with no e. That's weird, Theodore with no
(23:17):
e, Henry Lucas and then Williams. So William is also on the list,
but so is Liam and Williams numberten. Lillam's number one. The
top ten girls names Oliviam, Emma, Charlotte, Amilia, Sophia, Mia.
I thought Mia was short for somethingtoo, is Miam, Isabelle,
(23:41):
Ava, Evelyn, and ready forthis Luna l u n a Luna Yeah,
like a Luna eclipse, I guessanyway, Luna's a top ten name.
Mia has jumped in from eighth tosixth. Otherwise it's the same list
for a girls girls. Not nonew names, but me and moved up
(24:02):
in the list. With the samelist the top five names. For the
top five for boys, they alsolooked at the trendiest names. Maybe not
the most popular, but they're trending. Is zagel I z A E.
L was a trending name for boys, chosen with a Z c h o
(24:22):
z e N. That's a bigone. I guess Iden instead of Aiden,
it's e I D e N.And then Cassian c A s s
I A N and Kirn k yri e N. Those are the trendiest
names. And let's see. Oh, okay, I'm just being chosen.
Cho Zen was a character on thelast season of Cobra Kai, So if
(24:48):
you watch the Cobra Kai, thenyou know who chosen is cho Z e
N. And Kaylee, which isone of the girls trendiest names, might
be thanks to a TikTok star namedKaylee. Okay, here's the top ten
trendy girls. Name's Kaylee, Alittel alto. I can't see it,
(25:08):
I can't pronounce it, emern Adaharaand Asari. Yeah, all names that
probably gonna end up in prison.Just those names. It just doesn't it
doesn't seem right. You're gonna havea chip on your shoulder, You're gonna
have anger management issues, and it'sgonna be bad. So don't name your
kid any of those. Most ofthose names are pathetic. All right,
Good to have you here on theradio show. A message just came in
(25:30):
from a smart ass and it said, Jimmy is not on the list.
Well, of course it's not onthe list. Jimmy is not on the
list, by the way. Don'tforget my name is Jimmy. Now there
is James's. Yeah, James ison the list, but I'm not James.
My name is not James. Myname is also not jim and I
don't like being called jim. Idon't like being called James either. My
name is Jimmy. On the birthcertificate, the BC says my name is
(25:52):
Jimmy, but it's not on thelist. I get it. The person
that sent me that message was eightin, one of the hipster youth who
I say, nobody in gen Xwas ever named Aiden. That's a name
that got made up out of wholecloth somewhere. And now Iden is almost
E I D E. And they'reskipping the A altogether. So I'm happy.
Yeah, the big big names.Liam is the top name seven years
(26:15):
in a row for the boys outthere, So it's all you Liam's out
there. You're not a trendsetter. You're just one of the people. You're
just an average old name. Youthought it was cool. Nope, you
got an average name, all right? Coming up on the program, I
do want to remind you about mywebsite Jimmy Lakey dot com. I did
an interview earlier this morning with JohnHoltzman, who's a real smart fellow when
it comes to the world of foreignpolicy. He's also written a book that's
(26:38):
a really interesting book. I've hadthe chance to do a quick peek in
perusing of it, just haven't beenable to read it yet, but it
looks at history and foreign policy andwhere we're at now and where we have
been in history. And I askedhim at the end of that interview,
and I'll place some of that interview, but if you go listen to it
Jimmy Lakey dot com. I askedhim, is there ever kind of been
(27:00):
a period in American history that remindsyou of where we're at now. A
lot of people say, well, this is like Nazi Germany and the you
know, the anti Semitism and allthe stuff that's going on out there in
the world. Maybe we're heading toWorld War three and the Allies versus the
Axis. And John Holtsman had avery interesting explanation and an answer and said,
(27:22):
if he's looking at American history,he's looking at the period around World
War One. He said things werefine until they weren't. And he said
that World War One era of Americanhistory is probably what we should be studying
and not screwing up again. Ialso talked to John Holtzman about the foreign
aid that had been approved by Congressand a big aid package. Remember for
(27:45):
Israel. We're supposed to give moneyto Israel, and suddenly we're going to
give our arms an AMMO to Israel. And then the Bidy administration said,
never mind, Congress approved it,I'm going to keep it because I don't
like what you're doing in RAFA.A lot of heat for the Biden administration
over that John Holsman talked about andthat interview as well. That is up
at the website Jimmy Lakey dot com, as are most of all the interviews
(28:07):
that I do on this show. You can find it there Jimmy Lakey dot
com. I hope you'll like it, I hope you'll share them, and
all of it also can be foundat the iHeartRadio app. Just look up
the Laky Effect podcast and you willsee it. All Right, everybody stand
