(01:27):
me welcome to the program. Mynext guest. His name is Mark Hancock.
He's the chief executive officer of TrailLife USA dot com. A Trail
Life USA also writ in a bookcalled Why are We Sitting here Until We
Die? Trail Life USA is anorganization that well, they want young men

(01:49):
to have godly responsible come a godlyresponsible husbands, fathers, and citizens.
Trail Life is as a god forgenerations for a lot of guys and help.
It's does something that maybe the boyScouts used to do. Let me
walk home into the program, MarkHancock, Mark welcome to the show.
How are you, sir. I'mdoing great, Jimmy, Thanks for having

(02:10):
me on. The Boy Scouts haveannounced that they're changing their organization to Scouting
America because they want to be moreinclusive out there. According to the Associated
Press, they're going to become ScoutingAmerica in an effort to emphasize inclusion.
And give me your thoughts on thisTrail Life USA. You were to build

(02:34):
young men into great men. Yourthoughts on the Boy Scouts announcement. Yeah,
well, actually we started about tenyears ago when the Boy Scouts began
to abandon some of the more traditionalvalues. We are. We're now all
almost sixty thousand members in all fiftystate, twelve hundred troops. Very similar
to the Boy Scouts when you lookat things like uniforms and handbooks and outdoor
adventure and camping, hiking troops andall that. But we are christ centered

(02:59):
and we are boy folks. Andthat's what's on the table right now is
Boy Scouts. I take a boyout of the name. They're taking one
step part of the to say thatboys are not their business and boys of
the business of trail life. Welove growing boys into godly men, and
of course families are are rushing toTrail Life and record numbers. In twenty

(03:19):
eighteen, the boy Scouts lost amillion boys and they gained one hundred and
seventy six thousand girls. And wethink it's only a matter of time before
it's primarily a girls organizations. ButTrail Life cares about boys. We believe
boys and girls are different, andwe've designed a program that reaches out to
the strength and courage and winsomeness ofa good, godly boy. Yeah,

(03:39):
why is so important? We oftentimeshear that we raise our boys wrong,
We raise them into toxic masculinity. We need to tap into our boys femininside,
even let them identify as a girlif they want to. I mean,
why is raising a boy properly soimportant? And are we at danger

(04:00):
of infecting society with this toxic masculinityby raising boys in a traditional manner?
Yeah, that's really something that wekind of painted all boys and all men
with this broad brush. Certainly thosebad men, but not all men are
bad, and so we painted boyswith this toxic breast like boyhood is some
kind of social disease that we needto eradicate because somehow going to hurt us,

(04:21):
but by raising a good, strong, godly boy into a godly man.
Those are the kind of guys whostormed the beaches of Normandy and free
the world of teeringy. Or geton a rocket and go to another planet,
or are you a ship and goacross some uncharted waters. That's the
courage, the risk and competition thatboys are drawn to. Boys aren't any

(04:44):
more valuable than girls, but they'redifferent from girls. And if if we
forget that, then we then we'regiving up a powerful, important part of
our society, the same as ifwe were to discount the wonderful qualities of
girls. But boys are feeling it. They're twice as like being special education,
three times more like a ADHD.They've fall in behind girls in every
single academic category. And now anorganization that got through over one hundred years

(05:08):
had their name or the title, they're being jettison there too. And so
it's tragic what we see boys dealwith today, and that's why trail As
is growing so fast. Now.The boy Scouts have been bragging that they've
got girl Eagle Scouts, I thinksix thousand of them. Now they're kind
of obviously trying to attract more girls. They want to be very inclusive.
Why is it, in your opinion, better for there to be separate organizations

(05:31):
like than a Boy Scouts and theGirl Scouts separate And why is that so
important for them not to be combinedinto one organization. Well, boys and
girls are different. There's a bookfor download at our website right now called
Let Boys to Boys, and wetalked about the biological, psychological, developmental
differences between boys and girls. Thisis science. This isn't some sort of
cultural thing that we've come up with. Boys and girls are different and they

(05:55):
need programs that are aimed at themand girls. You know, I remember
when they let girls into Boy Scouts. One of the first quotes I read
with the leader saying, we lovehaving girls in our troop. There's so
much smarter and better behave. AndI thought, you know, he's right.
You know, developmentally, girls, girls are an advantage at that age,
and certainly they're easier to care forbecause they they're created differently than boys.

(06:19):
And so that's why I think that'sjust a matter of time before boys
are being run off from the organizationwe used to those Boy Scouts instead of
instead of their risk and competition andbeing celebrated and encouraged, you know,
to be to discounting it and likeboys or some kind of defective girl or

(06:39):
something is really tragic and we're turningit around. Trail Life USA is the
name of your organization, started abouta decade ago, has had a quite
impressive growth. It is a boyfocused program designed to let boys be boys.
I know if the right word isalternative, but at least something that
you might used to have founded theBoy Scouts of America. Now you can
