Speaker 1 (00:00):
Corpus Christy's Classic Kids Big ninety three to nine with
(00:02):
a hitman, and I'm in the studios today. Of course
Corpus Christy Ice Rays are going to be in action,
actually literally starting Saturday with the Big Red Black Game.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
And I've got with me the voice I got.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Yeah, you know that's how I changed my the voice
of Corpus Christy Ice Raise. Joey Erickson, how you doing,
I'm doing fantastic. Oh my voice lives up to that intro.
Oh it is it is. And then one of my
new favorite friends, now he's the coach of the Corpus
Christy Ice Raise. It's coach Jacques.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
But the you go by Jacko, I go by Jocko.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Coach Kevin.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Coach Kevin Jocko. Now, don't call me late to dinner,
So tell me. Tell me a little bit about what's
happening with the Red and Black game.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
That's happening.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
It's a meaning behind this game.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Right, Yeah, there's a chance for these guys to make
the roster. Right, they're battling to win positions for this
upcoming season. So Coach Jacko over there is going to
have a tough time making some key decisions for this
up coming season, but it's going to be good, which
I think we'll bring the atmosphere in the building hopefully
to the guys having some tension between them.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
So from some of the players that you've seen so far,
is there any that kind of stand out or do
you not want to give out that information right now?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
No, there's obviously some guys that you know are playing well.
But again it's it's when everything's on the line, you
see who brings it, you know what I mean. So
it's like, well, we want some guys to be physical
during the year, So the guys that need to do that,
they'll do that. So you who knows, there might be
a tussle or two or three.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
And these people are not just from Texas. They're from everywhere, right,
I mean, yesterday we did a little video. It's on
social media. There were some people there from Cleveland, Ohio, Michigan.
The one that surprised me was from Sweden, Norway, Norway. Yeah,
so you've got people from Europe and from all over
the United States that are actually competing to be on
(01:56):
this team, right.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Good old Canadians too, don't forget.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Oh yeah, Canadians there here too.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
The good boys.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
So of course, besides that, besides the game, you've got
other stuff that's gonna be happening on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Right, Yeah, it's a big open house event.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
We're under new ownership, so it's kind of our first
little hourah to together, just to show ourselves. You get
a look at the new ice as well. We got
a new logo at Center Ice. You can actually pick
your seat for the upcoming season. For those season ticket holders,
of course you get to watch the game, but we're
gonna have prizes. There's gonna be little games that the
kids can play. I mean it's free, by the way, Yeah,
(02:34):
it's free.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
That is the one thing around I was gonna bring
up to you is like Saturday, it's entirely free right.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Eleven am to two pm. The doors open at ten actually,
so come a little bit early. You can interact with
me and some of the other staff. We're gonna have
just a blast watching the watching the game, and hopefully
we get a lot of people there and have a
fun atmosphere.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Now, after the Red Black Game, your first official game,
now that's on September nineteenth, there's a lot of stuff
that's going to be happening on that day too, right, Yeah,
that that.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Whole weekend actually is going to be jam packed with
a lot of fun stuff. But Friday is a dollar
beer night, so that's that's the most important night.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
So we'll have to keep We'll have to keep Jocko
on the bench. Not a beer guy, have to.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
We'll have to keep him settled down. But yeah, dollar
beer on that Friday. But Saturday, which is a part
of this big opening weekend celebration, we have a pregame
block party. So we're going to shut down the street
in front of the American Bank Center and we're going
to have food, beer trucks.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
There's gonna be live music.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
The chain Links yeah, the Corpus is based a local
favorite around here.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, they're gonna be there.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
They're going to be jamming out, and we just want
people to come, like, enjoy the party. We know there's
some people in South Texas that may have never been
to a hockey game, or maybe I never even watched hockey.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Well, we just want to get you there. We'll have tickets,
low's five dollars. We just want to get you there.
Enjoy the party, Enjoy the dollar hot dog night.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
You'll fall in love with hockey, because hockey is the
best sport in the world to watch live and in person,
and you get a little taste of that if you
come on Saturday as well. You can see the speed,
the pace that they play with. There's nothing better. Yeah,
and you get to have a great time as well.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
So more besides people hitting the glass, fighting and of
course making the goals. That's that's that's one of the
highlights that you could see in hockey and stuff like that. Coach,
give me a little bit of history of where you've been,
what you've been doing before coming here to the ice race,
because you're your brand new coach too, right.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Yeah, this is my first year. Lucky enough, you know,
to get the job. Obviously, didn't know them a lot
about Corpus CHRISTI played in the Central back in my day,
you know, played major junior, so I've done what they're
doing these kids. I was in Spokane as a Canadian
way back when, and then turned pro and played sixteen
years a pro and didn't really want to continue with hockey,
(04:51):
but then I got asked to coach VCU university team
and then kind of next thing, you know, I'm coaching
youth hockey and you know, blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Here Yeah, yeah, reeled me in.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
And now now I've been doing it and I love it.
You know, I love the level because there are some
great players and I you know, and I think I
have a lot of experience and knowledge to help these
kids to be good hockey players, but more to be
good people in the community. And I think that's what
our organizations doing. George and Steve, the owners, you know,
they've they're making it a community drive, right, We're trying
(05:25):
to get into into the community, you know, be a
part of the community and and you know, hope the
community rallies behind us.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
So have you seen the schedule so far for the
for the season? What do you think is going to
be one of your toughest opponents? Do you know so far?
I mean, have you seen what the other what the
other teams are.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yeah, and obviously I have a couple, you know, guys
that are returning. So obviously Lone Star Opening night is
their number one. They beat us, they knocked us out
last year, so they're already a hated rivalry. So you know,
we'll just we'll prepare and get ready and you know,
and then we're going to see them eight times.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
The first five games of the season are going to
be interesting.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Yeah, we play I think the first five games are
against teams that actually.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Finished in the final four.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Oh wow.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
So's it's going to be a good opening stretch.
Speaker 4 (06:17):

of it early, but it'll be exciting right off the hot.

forward to on Saturday is meeting Nick, the hockey player
that was on one of my videos just recently on
social media who actually said, I cannot believe this water
Burger was mid.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
He doesn't speak for the organization. Okay, yeah, exactly. I'm
not backing him on this one.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
So yeah, make sure when you get there look for
Nick because you're gonna want to talk to him about Waterburger.
So I appreciate you guys coming in today. Thanks a lot,
