Speaker 1 (00:02):
West Up. It's the way up with Angela Yee and
my hosts are here with me. Mano still here, New Mano,
Jasmine Brand I'm still here as well, and somebody who
I absolutely love it here also take it's here. Were
about to get into today. I know it's something of
(00:22):
us leave always, never that, never that. But you got
to finish your shot because you know we all did us. Yes,
thank you for my shot. Why are you pressuring her? No?
Did long? She got less than you, so you need
to speak for your Okay, there you go, Jasmine, try
to turn it around on us. M But congratulations. I
(00:43):
saw everybody giving you your flowers on social media too,
so thank you. UM, I appreciate it. It's a how
to support um not. The energy is crazy right now,
so I'm happy. I love that because you deserve it
so much, just because you've been grinding for such a
long time, and I feel like it's always going up,
up and up. You know. Sometimes I think what artists say,
(01:04):
they it's like a up and down, up and down.
But I feel like for you, it's just been like
a steady, steady incline. Yes, it's been a journey, like
you say, I've been making music for a long time. Um,
and not that I'm independent. It's just a different energy
and every drop, you know, it gets crazier and crazier.
So well, I want to say Maynod has been listening
(01:24):
to Yes We Mayno has a very strong let me
let me say for real, because what I like is
the fact that you're super honest in the music and
you're talking crazy. I like, thank you man talking crazy.
So I want to apologize to you for not really
being in tune sooner, because you don't know who you are.
(01:45):
You understand, but I wasn't really in tune right now,
said all morning. Listen when I'm wrong, I'm I'm apologized.
But the music is crazy. I love it. I love
what you're talking about. You're talking about having a new
nigga throwing away the old nigga. Uga listen to this song.
(02:06):
But that is one of my favorite songs. And I
know it's the last song on the new album, But
what it's about is, look, you messing up. I got
somebody new that's gonna pick up the slack. Yes, And
that was the whole point of this album. It's like,
you know, I'm speaking for the girls. The ladies. You know,
we always hear records about the man what they kind
of like, you know, just kind of be a vogar
And I wanted to make an album for ladies to
(02:28):
Papa shit. So were you nervous when you wrote that record,
because that's a very strong nervous for a few of
these records, they're very strong, and you know, you know
how it is. It's like the world is so sensitive now.
I'm like, you know, do I have to change this lyric?
But no, we let it fly. There was a record
I don't know the name of it. Were you talking
about I shouldn't have f this this and take it back? Yeah,
(02:50):
definitely definitely understand that. I want to take my situation,
like what what inspired that particular song? Life Life says.
I feel like every song is inspired by something that
happened in my in my in my past, or something
(03:10):
I was feeling at the moment um. But you know me,
like my last album it was called Pillow Talk, super
sexy and sweet, very like, you know, very loving and sweet.
In this album, I want to just flip that switch,
like you know, we're fighting back right now. I was like,
did something happen you know how sometimes it'd be like
U reflective of a life. Yeah, and you know it's
(03:30):
nothing particular, but the energy is just different. And I
know my fans they appreciate when I'm really like aggressive,
So this is the album for them. We need that.
I definitely needed that. Yeah, I feel like all women
can relate to that experience, like I wish I never
you know, let sometimes we act like it never happened
(03:51):
a couple of guy. Yeah, I think like I think
that if you know it didn't last long and if
it don't really count wild, that's a great do you
believe you know with that if it didn't last you
just don't remember it right five years, it might not
didn't happen. Yeah, team, do you have someone or somebodies
(04:14):
that where you feel like I wish I was never
with you in that way like that that reflects that song?
Of course, I feel like in my past, you know,
and I was younger. Of course, I gotta feel bit
able that I just wish I never even touched I
talked to you. And you know, that's just a part
of life, part of you know, it's worse as you
blow up even more people that you know I used
to hit I'm crying. I hope I'm don't put me
(04:35):
on your list, give me off. But no, that's the problem.
You know, man don't man don't know how to be quiet,
and so it's like you have to be selective and careful.
I was thinking about that because remember how Drake was
like about naming women in his songs and he wish
he wouldn't have did that that. Yeah, yeah, it is
kind of you know, I like man that I that
can really you know, control themselves, keep wrong with holding
(04:59):
it down. Now. You also did this campaign which I
enjoyed right where people were donating their ex's clothes. Yeah,
instead of just like you know, throwing them out, putting
them on fire, cutting them up, donate them. Yes, I
did a thanks for Nothing drive, So I love the
love that drop off your ex clothes, his clothes, jeans, hats, anything,
(05:21):
oh from your ex, get rid of it. But yeah,
in Atlanta they're bringing like all the clothes and donating
all their old excess stuff. So pay up with that concept.
You know. I got a great team at Empire. Um
we brainstorm don't how to like really just you know,
promote the album and also giving back. I'm heavy on
that like giving back to the city. So I'm with that.
That's good. Like instead of throwing his clothes out, let's
(05:44):
just take these design really maybe even like an Xbox
or something. Time about your own drive. May Yeah, one
kind of guy put my clothes in a in a
bathtub and said he was gonna set it on fire.
Oh my god, how did you do? So I just
came home. I was like, why are my clothes in
the bathtub? What did you do that? Man, we don't
(06:04):
want to talk about. Have you ever had a situation
where a guy was super upset about something that you
did or something that he discovered? Of course, Um, but
at the most, nobody's ever like threw my clothes out.
I had my phone smashed before. Now that's the violation.
(06:25):
Did you have a second phone? He was angry. I
had to go and get a new phone. Did he
pay for it? Um, he did not know. He was upset.
So that's like the most I've saying. I got to
smash the phone, so it was all cracked up. That's
messed up, man. Have you smashed the phone before I
could look at your face himself? Because he was like myself,
(06:45):
He's like, that's that's light words, not that I would
say I have. Well, would you smash a woman's phone? Anger? Well?
But but why, what's the motive behind the anger? What?
What trigger? I don't really recall you just doing what
you did? What you did? What can give me this phone?
I'm paying for it anyway? Did he go through it?
(07:05):
He go through your phone and he got upset on them.
Have you went through a man's phone before? You know
that I have, but not recently. Y'all that you will
leave you sick. You know, I'm one of those people
like man when I'm like, when I noticed something ain't right,
you know, I can't eat, so I'm not trying to
see I don't. I don't really want to discover anything.
If I see it and God show me cool, Yeah,
(07:28):
but I'm not searching the phone. I feel like that's
you know, it's in there. Sometimes God will be asking
for the phone over his face while he's sleeping open
and that what God says, I don't have? That is that? What? Gods?
What is the phone about my face? Your eyes have
to be open for when God tells you that to
put the phone over the And I never did it.
(07:49):
I learned my lesson from the finger because that was
done to me. Somebody took your finger passed out, Yes out,
I guys wanted to do me. I go through phones,
I don't, and how you had everything never nobody's phone.
I just got too much pride. Yeah, I feel like
if I do that, that's a deep dark place that
I don't need to be exactly. So you think said
(08:10):
she's grown, she's grown past that. Yeah. I had a
guy go through I have to and I never respected
him after that. Yeah, Like it's just something I'm like
a sucker if I did that. Yeah, yeah, and told
me about that. She was really pissed about it too. Yeah,
you go through my so corny, It's like that's such
a violation. Yeah it is, because then you don't know,
I could have been planning a surprise party for you team.
Have you ever had a man go through your phone before? No?
(08:32):
I haven't. Okay, Now let's talk about the song toxic,
because you said even though I knew you was toxic,
I still fucked you all right, so all risk, Yeah,
it's honest. This album is so honest, and it's just
like you know, I kept it all the way real.
So yeah, So it's somebody that you knew. Everybody was
like it ain't. Yeah, And that's how we are as women.
(08:53):
We always have to kind of test the waters, like
I heard about it, but I got to see if
it's real. It's those situations. But sometimes we also think
people will be different with us, right is that? Is
that why we do that team right now? While we
do that thing. No, I think that's very true. You know.
I agree. Yeah, you're like, because I'm me and like
(09:15):
he went through what he went through and it was
who he was here. We always think we can change
a person, and I believe, you know, the right person
will change, But it ain't gonna be because of a woman.
It'll be because he wants to, because he was looking
for love. Yeah, I am sad. Maybe you are. You
think that a woman can make you change because you
(09:37):
have that life experiences make you change. You gotta get
to a place where you want to change, right, Nobody,
no one person is going to change you. You understand
you You have to want to change, You have to
be in that place. Feelt like, man, you know what,
I'm done with it. I'm tired of the strip clubs.
I'm mover it. I want to change, tired of these prostitutes. Whoa, whoa,
(09:58):
he's co speaking to you. I don't know. I don't
know the average man is dealing with prostitudes. But I
don't know if the average man is dealing with escort.
But do you do you agree with his a statement
that he just says, I do. I didn't seen it
at all they've done with escort? Yeah, quietly right now,
(10:19):
let's talk about this for a second though, for the
women here taking accountability, because we call these guys toxic,
but sometimes we're the toxic ones. Sometimes what have you
done that's been toxic? You know what? I will say
this like, not that I like to do it, but
women play mind games, you know what I'm saying, Like, Um,
I guess that's toxic in a way. Um, and I
(10:42):
don't want to just you know, make myself sound like
a demon or nothing. But you know, we know the
trigger words when a man it's something about a man
that he might find a secure us, something you kind
of like trigger and play that's yeah, that's toxic or
you don't heavy what happened? Um, you know, quick, you
come quick whatever I get on that time. So you know,
(11:03):
when I have my days, damn what I have. And
it's a mind game because you know, you know that
she's gonna trigger them. Sounds like you're just playing with them,
playing their mind. I feel like women are very good
at with the mind, like saying certain things or um
poking at certain things, or because we play innocent, we do. Yeah, yeah,
I think that's real. I think though, this interview is
(11:25):
my tank tink the other day, and this is where
herd a guy's feeling. She likes um guys who are
medium in terms of our parents, and like just you know,
like I don't talk about medium medium, I like medium, cute,
I like medium dick side like that. I feel that, okay,
because the medium guys is like, if they're too fine,
(11:46):
you gotta worry about You gotta worry about women. They
have risks, they got too much, you gotta worry. I
think my my Rationelle is my Rationelle is if they
are super fine. They were cute in kindergarten. Okay, if
they were cute in kinder guard and they've always had
you know, there's you know, peers and the girls in
the class. The teachers showed them favoritism. So we've always
(12:10):
been you know, hold you, little Johnny so cute. I
think about dealing with a dive. Was that was cute
at five years old? And then now he's thirty. He's
been cute his whole life, so he's used to being
you know, so you're like, I like, what do you love?
I like that too. I think medium is nice, you know,
(12:31):
y'a'll have to worry about too many women chasing. And
then he's also still good, you know, yeah, still get
to look at if you know, you know, it's some
guys in the hood at our medium, you know what
I mean. They might not be the finest man, but
his swag is right, you know, he might. He might
(12:53):
dress well, and he might smell good. He medium, now
like look good good medium. So y'all don't like guys
that are particularly good looking with penises. Listen, let's talk
to him about the penis. But I feel do you
do you like super big? Do you like medium? I
like super big? I feel like les than medium. Nah,
(13:15):
not less than medium? A big. You know, I'm a
talk girl, she said, she liked. So I'm like, you know,
I'm not a No, she didn't say that. She not
less than medium. Yeah, that's an under a medium, but
we like them big. It's like like a four starring up.
Like I'm not saying the three stars. We want to
remember your four star find that Tink said, I want
I'm sorry to make your comparable Tink siry man, No Tink,
(13:38):
we want to remember. No Tink, Tink don't like medium penises.
And that's fine. Okay. What about if your guy had
the only fans? So y'all playing games? You're playing crazy today? No,
I don't want to guy with the only fans. Man,
I'm so like stingy selfish about mine. I don't want
nobody looking at you talking to you. Okay, very extra batic.
(14:04):
Mayno was so uncomfortable right now. I already told me
was the medium he was, So that's say he was
mad today, But I'm not everybody and he do different
morning you Mayno one because he started morning Wood only
fans only fans. What I said was, I don't have
I don't have a search. No he would like to.
(14:24):
I would. I'm gonna fix you, okay, definitely, and you're
gonna get it. To listen, I'm saying threat. What I'm
what I'm saying was during the pandemic, I had thought
about it. Okay, get that money. It was gonna be
called morning Wood May Yeah, yeah, that's it. Yeah, the
(14:48):
Morning Wood to Mano new team. Now, let let's talk
about the song fake Lab because you said that he
butt you up these nice things but then took him back.
Did that happen to you? It did in my past,
not recently. That wasn't that wasn't a recent situation. But yeah, guys,
you know, they like to take the jury back or um.
(15:10):
I've had a guy asked for a piece of clothing
back that's very patty. That's very petty cloth. Yeah, it's
not like you can wear it. That wasn't to hurt
your feelings, it is, I think. Yeah, have you ever
given a gift and asked for it back after the breakup.
(15:31):
I've never asked for it back. No, okay, yeah, I
feel like if I gave it to you in that moment,
I wanted you to have it. So we just take it,
you know, keep moving. It isn't hard for guys to
talk to you when they listen to your music and
they're like, damn, I really got to come correct. Especially
with this album. I think I feel like guys have
like this opinion about me, and a lot of guys
will be afraid to even approach a girl like me
(15:52):
because I'm so sure all minded. Um. So they always
you know, they always have their doubts, are they. They
will come and think, I'm like this mean as stubborn woman,
and I'm like, no, I'm just you know, just be
speaking truthful. But you kind of are because I remember
when young. I know, he did say that he was
very stand up when he was going to work with you.
(16:13):
I feel like in the music world, I have to
be a little more. Um, it's not even right. You
have to be guarded. So I might not have been
bubbly as soon as he met me because I was
worried about business. I'm thinking about, you know, the record
I gotta write. So that's all that was, y'all. I'm
really a laid back, chill individual. I love to turn
up kick it, but when it comes to business, I
(16:36):
can be a little you know, straightforward and focused. That's it.
So how can a guy approach you if they're listening
right now, you see yourself. It's it's really what's your
relationship saying? I'm figuring. I'm figuring things out right now
and um, focus on music, focused on the music, all
these all these tracks. I'm figuring. I'm figuring this save
(17:01):
your soul. So if somebody did want to approach you,
what is the best way be yourself? Y'all? I'm so
I'm so down to HERF I like when people are normal,
and you know what I mean, when people do the most,
that's when you kind of get afraid, like you know,
I can't trust or you know what I'm saying. You
never know what to expect with you? Be yourself? You know,
a nice hello, how you feeling? Simple conversations? Yeah, I
(17:26):
like the young man because how can they even get
to you? Though? And that's the thing. We kind of
have to cross paths. I'm always working, and you know,
you get to a certain point. You can't just pop
out at every club, every you know, every nightclub. So
I'm always working. I have to have to cross paths
with you. Can we see your dms? I have a
(17:52):
question just a guy that you date or that you
the next guy. I don't know what your situation is now,
but does he have to be in this industry to seat?
What kind of guy are you open to? Yeah? I
was just talking about this I'm a little afraid of
men in the industry right now. Why I'm a little
afraid just because of the opinions. You know, you have
(18:14):
to deal with a million people watching you and telling
you about your relationship. Um, and just also because I know,
like men with you know, status, it come with a
whole lot of baggage and a whole lot of side women,
a whole lot of group bees, and you know, dealing
with that you have to be prepared for that, and
(18:34):
it's a lot. So would you date that a regular guy?
I surely would. I have no problem with regular guy,
absolutely right. And they could also intimidated because they could
also be so intimidated value that they do things because
they feel like not on that level. No, you're right,
You're right, And like like may know said, they also
(18:56):
can have the same baggage side women, dms and you're
on the same mess. But I say this, if you
date somebody in the industry, you're going to end up
on the Jazzmine brand. If you date somebody that is
that works out the Jamin brand. But if you date
somebody regular that has side chicks, is likely not gonna's possibility.
(19:17):
But it's likely not going to end up like in
the media, that's all. It doesn't end up in the media,
saying it still happens because it still matters of the heart.
She still wants to feel the same pain. This interview
is for tink. So let's when it's not on the blogs.
It makes it easier for you to fix things right
Exactly when it's the celebrity, everybody's like, this person cheated,
(19:39):
and then everyone knows, and then somebody's gonna screenshot it,
put it up. But sometimes you could deal with things
better if it's not in the public. Apple on her
social circle will know, but we're not gonna we're not
gonna write about it. If the guy works at such
and such, but nobody would know, and that helps you sleep, Like, man,
knowinge of a thousand people in your business that make
the that make the situation so much work. If feels
(20:01):
like you're very private too when it comes to your
personal life, Yes, I've always been private, and I feel
like that's how we keep our peace. Man. You got
to save something from home, and you know, save something
you know for yourself. So in particular on this album,
is there any songs on here that I know you said?
Some of it was you were thinking, like, can I
(20:21):
do I need to edit this? This is gonna be
a problem. What songs do you get most emotional when
you have to perform a speaking like all my records,
thinking about all the songs, you know what, I still
get emotional off of Treat Me Like Somebody. That's like
my probably my biggest song off the new albums, though,
I would say, I know I'm gonna get emotional performing
(20:42):
Fake Love. You know I wrote that. I wrote that
record all by myself, and it was just like one
of those songs, like you know, I might have shut
a tear or two if I cut it, and you know,
because I was reflected on some real shit. So Fake Love,
I know it's gonna choke me up, right. Yeah, you
kind of opened it up with that one too. Yeah. Yeah.
(21:02):
I wanted to set the tone on this album right
and let them know, like, you know, we're not playing
on this album. And I think those songs always hit
the hardest when you get emotional exactly. That's what I know.
It's gonna touch touch the world, Like if I'm crying
in a car playing and you know you gotta player
sh in the car. I've had a couple, you know, trips.
So I should have started crying off my music. And
that's what I know now when yeah, making left to
(21:24):
your slow songs, to slow songs? Do you play your
own music ever? I have before, but I didn't like it.
Why didn't you like? Because I'm so critical? I went,
I went into the mindset like a producer or an artist,
and I started thinking about, man, that note should have
been longer, and I wish I put a verse to
verse At the end, I started, you know, I started
(21:45):
critiquing my music. It wasn't it. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't it?
Stirking it? Hold hold up, this is in my mind.
You while you're being intimate before, Yeah, but I care
for that. You never had text and then went and
was like, I gotta write this right now. Like had
a feeling come over you? Uh yeah, maybe like the
(22:08):
next day, not in a moment, Okay, maybe next. You
know how flattered the guy would be if you was
in bad having sex. And then right after you was like, man,
this is so good, I gotta write. You know you
want credit for whoever? Yes, they all want some credit.
And you're going on tour. I am Angela. Thanks for everything,
tour um starting in April. In the march, I'm going
(22:30):
on tour and I want my you know, my real
day one fans to pop out because this is for y'all.
You know. I'm telling everybody thank you for the support.
And I'm gonna just go through all my albums, all
my records, and it's gonna be a big vibe April sixteenth,
New Yet I already know. I wish you to come.
What's up? May I need everyone? Bring a date? We're
on you because we're gonna be paying attention to everything.
(22:52):
To bring a date, you have to. I think that's
a good date. It's a date. Probably will bring a date.
I won't have anybody. Can I come by? Can't you
come to happen? Anybody? It's a date thing. You come
by myself, a boy, myself. I'll be your date. You won't.
I'll be third willing whoever. I can't just stolen strolling.
(23:12):
Bring a date? You could, but bring bring a couple
of girls. You know what, man, this is actually place
for you. Do not bring a woman because it's gonna
be so many. You're right, and the guy if you
want to meet a woman, yeah, a lot of women.
(23:34):
Everything no, it's not a game, because I'm telling you
that's not I'm not even being funny. For guys, if
you want to meet a woman seriously, she's gonna be
in her feelings too. And say, all the ladies are
popping out. I believe we just put the pre sale
tickets up and we have a couple of cities that
are close to sold out. All the ladies are going
to be there. You know, kit your tickets. You know,
New York, Chicago, wherever you add, kitch your tickets. Now,
(23:55):
let me get your opinion on something that happened at
the Division show. Did you see the girl that got
up on the stage and was dancing with Daniel and
she was liked so the guy that wrote whatever post
it wasn't really her man. But let's just say she
was in a relationship and she got up on that stage.
It was you know, bending over grinding. And some people
are like, she looks she's just living her best life.
It's no big deal. But some people were very critical, like,
(24:17):
if you're in a relationship, you shouldn't do something like that.
What are your thoughts? I mean, if you're in a relationship,
you gotta respect your man or respect your lady whatever. Um.
But at the same time, it's like, y'all, she had
a concert. She might be you know, this might be
the biggest artist to her, she's the biggest fan is
And it wasn't serious, was it? No? I don't think so. Yeah,
(24:38):
it was entertainment, you know what, men though I can
see it from Yeah, man, it's so tight if we're
in a relationship, I don't want I just don't think
that that would be appropriate being in you in a relationship,
and then what you gotta come back and just you know,
But it's a good topic. There's two different perspectives. There's
(24:58):
Team who was like, look, she's carefree, she's having a
good night. And then there's mayno, who is that's my woman?
I like, if she didn't leave with him, she didn't
go home with him that night, She didn't even probably
probably didn't even know he was going to do that
(25:20):
on stage. So listen, you don't know what she didn't.
She didn't communicate that city girls up two hundred points.
Let's go, let's write with teams divisionsion. She didn't. Then,
let me ask you this, as an artist, when you're
performing and you see everybody with their phones just doing
(25:41):
that and not being in the moment. How does it
affect you as a performer, because we were also watching
like what happened with Chris Brown where the girl was
like getting the lap dance, but she was like filming
while she was on stage, and it's like girl being
a moment. But for you as an artist when you
see people doing that, and one hand it's like they
love me, they're capturing this, but at the other hand,
you're like, just enjoy this. Yeah, I think it's just
(26:02):
it's a part of the new era we in like,
we gotta get past it. We be prepared for people
to have a phone on you at all times. You know,
I would never get mad at somebody or you know,
throw a phone. I would never do that. It's just
the new era. We a, y'all. Everything is online and digital.
People want to have memories. So you know, I'm cool
(26:24):
and for you just the path that you've been and
what would you say that up and coming newer artists, right,
because I feel like where you are now, this is
who Tink really is. But sometimes people try to like
fit into what they feel like audiences want. Yes, you know,
so what type of advice would you give to artists
now who are getting signed it they're trying to figure
out their identity and just establish themselves. Yeah, if I
(26:46):
had to give some real advice to our artists, I
would say, Man, save your money outside of all the
extra you know, um, save your money, y'all. Like when
you get your advance, it is really not to go blow.
It is for you to you know what I'm saying,
like establish yourself, pay your bills, but save it because
it may be a moment where you go to need
(27:07):
a bag or people may you know, people may disappoint
you up turn on you switch on. You save your
money so you you know, you never have to worry about,
you know, your funds. Because in this industry, I've noticed, like,
you know, you're being in a situation as me. I
was signed and I felt like, you know, I thought
having an advance. How was it two years later that
(27:28):
advance is gone? You know what I mean? Money goes
quick when you're when you're really working. So save some
of it. And now you're happy right now, how are
you feeling? I am happy, you know, I'm really happy
just to have this music out. Um, so that that
gives me a lot of joy seeing my fans turn
and um personally, you know, I'm in a good space still,
regardless of what's happening. I'm focused and I'm about my
(27:49):
bag right now. I love it. Well, let's get to it,
James for everything tour that is happening starting in April.
