Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are now angel what I call her?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
All right, it's way up with Angela Yee on a
Wednesday day, and it definitely feels like it's gonna be
a crazy day. God for you.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Hairy narrows in the building.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
The deal with the peace, Yes, rounded boutosterone.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
I'm sorry, I didn't know he's a I didn't mean to.
I mean it was a different dog. It was like
the same dogs, this Labrador Dante's. And you know, you
can't just be barking like he said, he's.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Gonna I could be an honorary Wednesday today.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Sorry, working, yeah, but we are going to have a
fun day today. It is a Wealth Wednesday also, so
we have Contini from Katina Skin joining us. She's also
a recording artist. Okay, so that is going to be
for Wealth Wednesday. Shall talk about how she started her business.
She actually got into an incubator and then they helped
(01:06):
fund the research for her to even get her products out, which,
by the way, her skincare products are in sex Bergdorf
Nema Marcus.
Speaker 5 (01:13):
Hey, okay, oh.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
All right, we care about our skin.
Speaker 4 (01:16):
Good avenue. Let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
But in the meantime, let's start the show off with
some love and some positivity. Eight hundred two ninety two
fifty one fifty is a number. Call us up and
let us know who you want to shine a light
on its way.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
Up machine a machine.
Speaker 6 (01:30):
Turn your lights on, y'all, spreading love to those who
are doing greatness of light on them.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Shine light.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
It's time to shine a light on them, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Eight hundred two nine fifty one fifty. It is time
to shine a light. I got godfree here you with that?
Dante Narrow is here, Oh.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
All right, already all.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Right, and I want to shine a light on a
father and son in Detroit in the museum's one hundred
year history at the Detroit Historical Society, it is the
first time that they have a father and son being
featured in the museum in the one hundred year history
of this museum.
Speaker 7 (02:08):
Isn't that?
Speaker 8 (02:09):
It?
Speaker 2 (02:11):
So this museum? What's going on? It's the Detroit Historical Museum.
And the father, who is known as mister E. Emmanuel Smith,
He's featured for his Emmy Award winning children's show, Mister
E Show, So he's being featured in the museum for that,
but his son at the same time is also being
featured in the museum, so I think that's really dope.
(02:33):
He's a fifth grader, eliezar ye Israel Smith. He said,
most of the time they make exhibits about people when
they usually pass away, so it's pretty special. And the
Stories and Stereo pop up exhibit is open until March seventeenth,
and the Hustle exhibit is open until March thirty first,
so if you have a chance to check them out, Detroit,
I know, you know, Detroit definitely teaches that hustle early.
(02:55):
When I think about all the people like Melissa Butler,
she owns the lip Bar. That's a lipstick I have
on right now. They collab with my Yell Organics. But
she actually had her biggest day in Target for her
cosmetics yesterday, her biggest sales day ever. So shout out
to her for that. Okay, I like that. I like
the entrepreneurs, and you have some entrepreneurial things going on.
(03:15):
We're going to talk about it in a second, okay,
But who do you guys want to shine a light on?
Eight hundred and two nine fifty one fifty. What's up, Alex,
Who you want to shine a light on?
Speaker 9 (03:24):
My beautiful black wife. She's my black queen. So I
just wanted to give her a shout out. She's been
doing amazing. We just had a baby about a year ago,
and she got a promotion at her job. She's just
killing it right now in the game.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
So what's her name?
Speaker 9 (03:37):
Jalen?
Speaker 4 (03:38):
All right?
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Shout out to Jayleen? So you guys have a one
year old? Is is that's your first baby?
Speaker 9 (03:43):
It's her first, it's not mine. Okay, but like I said,
she's doing amazing.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
What congratulations. How long have you guys been married.
Speaker 9 (03:51):
We're going on a year now of marriage. We've been
together for about four now.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
So y'all wasn't playing You got married and had a
baby within a year.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
I see you?
Speaker 9 (04:01):
Yeah, miss? I mean, hey, listen, I was always told
when you find a good when you lock them up.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
So that sounds crazy. I don't say it like that.
Speaker 9 (04:12):
In no, yeah, you lock in, you lock in, So
I definitely locked in.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
All right.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Shout out to Jane. So you guys have a one
year old? Is that your first baby?
Speaker 9 (04:22):
It's her first, it's not mine. But like I said,
she's doing amazing.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
What congratulations? How long have you guys been married?
Speaker 9 (04:31):
We're going on a year now of marriage. We've been
together for about four now, so yea.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
I wasn't playing. You got married and had a baby
within a year. Okay, I see.
Speaker 9 (04:40):
You, yeah, miss, I mean hey, listen. I was always
told when you find a good when you lock them up.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
So that sounds crazy. I don't say it like that.
Speaker 9 (04:52):
In no, yeah, you lock in, you lock in, so
I definitely locked in. And uh this is for the.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
A long run.
Speaker 9 (05:00):
All right.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Well, shout out to you guys. We love you, Jalen,
thank you for calling, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
All right.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Well that was Shina Light eight hundred and nine fifty
one fifty in case you couldn't get through.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
And when we come back, we have your yeat.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
And there are two guys here, God for you and
Dante Narrow, who are I think experienced fighters. Okay, and
we're going to talk about Ryan Garcia and what's going
on with him. He's been posting all kinds of strange
things ahead of his fight against Devin Haney.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Will discuss its way up.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
She's like the talk like they Angela Jean, like they
angela jee Man.
Speaker 6 (05:32):
She's spilling it all. This is yeaty way up.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
All right, it's time for that, yea, t godfree's here.
Dante Narrow is, Yeah, what up? I got comedians in
the building. You know, this is my dream to be
surrounded by comedians just.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Chatting it up. Oh that's cool.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Good ones only well if you picked the right one. Okay,
when putting them unfunny cats up here, shout out.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
To ke Funny.
Speaker 10 (05:57):
It's sound like shade, it's not like almost all right, right, Garcia.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
You know he's getting ready to fight Devin Handy at
the Barclays on April twentieth. But he's been doing a
lot of things on social media that has people concerned. Well, now,
he went live on Twitter Space with Andrew Tate and
had some things to say about some things that he
claims that he has witnessed.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Here's what he said.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
Bohemon Grove is real.
Speaker 11 (06:22):
They tied me down and they made me want dog.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
They're raping little pigs, you know the higher elase.
Speaker 9 (06:28):
Do you know the pounds are going Down's dangerous, my friend,
I don't give them.
Speaker 12 (06:32):
They can't touch me.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
I'm a god.
Speaker 9 (06:34):
Because I care about you a lot, and I can
assure you from my own personal experience that they can
touch you.
Speaker 4 (06:40):
They can't bro all right, So come touch me yo.
So that's that was Garcia. Yeah, yeah, yeah, wow.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Now Devin Hanney said, give Ryan an oscar please. This
is an act, y'all. The fight is happening April twentieth.
He's just playing crazy to sell it, which is weird
because it's people who are actually crazy out there.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
But he's just acting for attention.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
First of all, why would you talk about raping children
as a joke?
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Well, he said, they made him witness that. And Bohemian
Grove I had to look that up. But it is
a real place in California. I did a deep dive
to see about this. It's a twenty seven hundred acre
camp campground belonging to a private gentleman's club known as
the Bohemian Club, and each year mid July they hosted
more than two week encampments of some of the most
prominent men in the world.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
WOA did you know that? Yeah, Bohemia, I do know that. Okay,
you know I am not one of the prominent men
in the world.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
They say, Ryan, good looking guy on over here. I
don't know how that promotes the fight though, but that's
but his guy is is de la Hoyer.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
That's his career.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Yeah, Golden boy, right, yeah, so why I think he
would be watching.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
I don't know if they have control because even his
father was like, he's trolling, but it's when trolling is
going the wrong way, So I know that's.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Like a weird thing to troll. Like he would say
something else like talk about the fighter you have to knock.
I don't know what happened to that. What happened to Ali?
Sexual assault makes you go, you all want to go
see a boxing that? Yo, they having sex with animals?
Come see my fight.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
I gotta ask, we gotta ask Devin Hainey. What's going on?
Speaker 7 (08:10):
All right?
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Man, let's get into Taraji's news.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Now.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Taraji, by the way, she's doing this collaboration with Kate
Spade and her capsule collection is destigmatizing mental health care.
One hundred percent of the profits from that collab will
be donated to the Baris Lawrence Henson Foundation that she
co founded. But she had some things to say about
why black people run. You know, when we laughing and
(08:34):
something's really funny, you get up and run. Here's what
she had to say.
Speaker 13 (08:37):
Black people run away when we laugh because we weren't
allowed to laugh on those plantations. This is stuff that
lives in us, y'all that doesn't just go away, like
she said, And if we don't start unpacking it seriously,
it will also be the end of us.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
All right now, I want to see what you guys
think about that, because I saw a lot of reactions
when this was posted on the Jasmine brand about people
saying I don't run when I laugh, And what do
you think about her comments?
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Well?
Speaker 10 (09:05):
You, I mean, it's that's the truth. There's a what God,
what's the books?
Speaker 1 (09:09):
It's a book called on the Real Side, Laughing, Lying
and Signifying the History of African American Humor from slavery
to Richard Pryor, which I read in college, but I've
been bringing it up for years and it said it
in there like black comedians at the time, you know,
black well performers in general, romans is you had to
laugh in barrels. They put put the stick your head,
and that's that's where the bowl of laughs came from
(09:32):
comes from, because they didn't want to hear you. You have
to be out of earshot of the slave master. And
and back in the day, even in early New York City,
it was illegal to be a stand up comedian.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
You couldn't do solo.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
You have to be in a in a duo, and
you had to wear blackface, and you had to speak
in that broken English. You could not speak to an
audience by yourself. It was illegal.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
See, sometimes people don't know the history of why we
do the things we do. And that is your yet.
And when we come back, we have about last night.
That that's where we discussed what we did last night.
Dante god for you guys are going to discuss I
know you were a keen Weds last night.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Yes, he's on the podcast and Godfrey We Trust?
Speaker 3 (10:09):
All right, Well discuss its way up about last night.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
Next, So about last.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Night last night, Jiz I went down.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
It's way up at Angela ye, and Dante Narrow is here.
Godfrey is here, yo.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
You know about Dante's Man School Tool too, right?
Speaker 3 (10:25):
His podcast?
Speaker 8 (10:26):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (10:27):
You know I did service. Yeah that's dope.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Yeah, yeah, it's amazing and Dante I loved. I don't
get to see him as much as I would like to.
But let's talk about what you guys did last night.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Okay, what do we do podcast?
Speaker 1 (10:39):
My podcast and godfre We Trust on Gas Digital Network
and on the YouTube Godfrey podcast. Yeah, we did podcasts,
you know, and we were talking about, you know, are
the GoFundMe that Dante actually agreed.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
We had a conversation about this, So talk about the
special and why you decided to set up a go
fund me because that's important.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Well, you know, I did Tiffany Hattis's Day any second season,
you know what I'm saying. But and Netflix is like,
You're like, Everyone's like, how come you ever done like
an hour special?
Speaker 4 (11:06):
It's been like seven years.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
I did it with Showtime and I said, you know what,
they said, why don't you just do it yourself? I said,
all right, And so I said, I'm go fund me,
and I you know me, I don't want to really
ask Dante's no, I'm gonna said it. I was like,
I don't want to look like I'm begging, but I'm not.
At four hundred and fifty something thousand subscribers on my podcast,
I go, why don't I just raise money? And I
want to raise money to I want to get at
(11:28):
least two hundred thousand dollars by the end of the
year and then produce your own oh, so I can
have it for myself. And they can't control the material,
and I can license it out. That's what a lot
of comedians are doing.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
They yeah, well did that when he couldn't get the
deal that he wanted to be financed it himself.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Yeah, you got Ali Sadik, you got Andrew Schultz, you
got different people were doing it in our own way,
and the people are the ones that they're paying you anyway.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Yeah, so yeah, might go fund me is set up.
It's on it.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
You can go to go fund me god You can
just google Godfrey's comedy special on GoFundMe.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
It'll come up.
Speaker 10 (11:59):
But one of the other things is when you when
you fund it yourself, like if they pay you and
they produce it, they own the copyrights. So you can't
even use it as a promotion right on your social media.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
So you can't even clip it. You can show screenshots, but.
Speaker 10 (12:15):
You can't even clip it and give people samples to
to actually know what's.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Sad is is people say, are you are you just
like you just are you begging? And I said no.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
I said, first of all, I already have I already
have celeb people that want to give me money for.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
It, Like Shack's one of them. Chack Chack called me
when he goes it's time for you to do your special.
Speaker 9 (12:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
I was like.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
I was like, I was like, hes like, it's time
for you special.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
How much you need?
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Glad you're explaining the whole thinking behind the GoFundMe.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Yes, I said, Shack.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
I said, I'm gonna let me do someone raise money
for myself first because I wanted to have full ownership.
But I got some backing. But I want to do
it myself. I want to do it grassroots, and I
know I can do it because I have enough fans
and guys. I've been keeping it funny for long time.
So you notice special is going to be tight.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
There's a lot of.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
People who don't have the skills that me or Dante
have that are on their third special.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
It's what I'm saying, all right, So make sure y'all
look that up on GoFundMe.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Yes, go fund me Godfrey Special, and you can. It's
on my ig Godfrey podcast. It's in the bio on
the YouTube and the YouTube links.
Speaker 10 (13:20):
I'll be telling Google Godfrey Comedy Special, Go fund me Godfrey.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
I was like, come up here so we could talk
about that too, because everybody has to know why you're
doing a GoFundMe for real?
Speaker 3 (13:30):
I find it.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Well, last night, you know, it's Women's Month, and it's
also International Women's Day coming up. I think it's on Friday. Yeah,
it's on Friday. So we had an event here at iHeart.
I interviewed Angie Martinez to my girl, Angie legend.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Yes, she's a legend. She was a keynote.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
And then I went to the Barclays and I did
their Women's Impact Nights and do so many of them.
Well listen, it's you know, Women's is a big time
for us, so we got to make sure we only
have one month, but now we celebrate NonStop. But I
actually interviewed their executive vice president of Global Partnerships, Catherine Carlson.
So we had a nice networking event there. But when
we come back, tell us a secret. This is the
(14:09):
part of the show where you guys call in. Godfrey's
smiling already and you are anonymous, and you tell us
a secret.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
And we're not gonna judge Dante. You hear me, no judgment.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
I'm not me okay, no judgment. You know I can't
judge a lot of secrets. We'll talk about his past later.
Eight hundred fifty one fifty is a number? Call us up,
tell us a secret, no judgment.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
It's anonymous. It's way up.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
This is a judgment.
Speaker 5 (14:36):
Freeze all tell us a secret.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
It's way up. At Angela Ye, I'm Angela yee. Godfrey
is here?
Speaker 10 (14:42):
Ye?
Speaker 3 (14:42):
What a Dante Narrow is here?
Speaker 4 (14:44):
Going on?
Speaker 3 (14:45):
You are ready for?
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Tell us a secret where people call up anonymously and
we don't judge them.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
We do it, We do it just in my head?
Speaker 3 (14:51):
All right, all right?
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Eight hundred two nine two fifty one fifty anonymous caller?
What's your secret?
Speaker 9 (14:56):
One time?
Speaker 10 (14:57):
My favorite moment we had.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Wait, you guys have sex on your auntie's couch, you said.
Speaker 9 (15:05):
And when I say we had six.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
You got all over her couch.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
Okay, was it a hand tall or a whole body towel?
Which one?
Speaker 1 (15:19):
It was a wash claw, it was a shammy, the
auntie's tall.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
It was probably her tall.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
So why is his hand taut? That's suspect. They never
watched them.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
The embroidered was that's scratchy.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Well that's a good secret. Thanks for sharing. What for us,
not for her auntie?
Speaker 4 (15:49):
But you couldn't used the other town.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
Heyn, miss calor, how are you try?
Speaker 14 (15:54):
I'm good?
Speaker 10 (15:55):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (15:56):
I'm good? It to me guy for you Duante Narrow.
You want to tell us a secret?
Speaker 14 (16:00):
Yeah, as in my baby daddy's best friend.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
But you are you with your baby daddy anymore?
Speaker 14 (16:09):
He recently died?
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Oh okay.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
You know sometimes when you're going through morning too, things
like that, like because they were so close to each other.
Speaker 14 (16:19):
Yeah, they were, and he would come over all the time.
But I kind of feel guilty, m because we like
talked a little bit in the past.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
While your child's father was alive. You were talking to
him then too.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Yeah, that's what we call grief.
Speaker 14 (16:42):
But he's really good time with my kids.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
Wow, you still with him?
Speaker 15 (16:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 14 (16:48):
But he lives with his baby mabum.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Oh wow, Wow, you're the side piece, so it's fun.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
You see, we having fun.
Speaker 14 (16:56):
I wouldn't call that.
Speaker 7 (16:58):
Yeah, a.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Baby mom, so nobody knows.
Speaker 14 (17:04):
Nobody knows that he's leaving her.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
I'm sorry, but you're a.
Speaker 14 (17:11):
All right own okay.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
And then going further, what's next?
Speaker 3 (17:17):
What's next?
Speaker 14 (17:19):
Well, we plan on getting a house together.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
No, what do you think the family is gonna say
when they find out? Oh?
Speaker 14 (17:28):
I don't talk to my baby daddy's family.
Speaker 9 (17:30):
They saw his everything.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
She goes further.
Speaker 10 (17:33):
You're gonna be like her baby mom is my mom?
Speaker 12 (17:38):
I know?
Speaker 3 (17:39):
Yeah, you guys.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Are you okay though, because that's not easy, you know,
just to put that out there that you are dealing with.
Speaker 14 (17:48):
Oh yeah, I'm in therapy and everything. But it's made
like thanks better after after you passed away. I'm not
gonna lie.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
Okay, okay, you'll keep it real.
Speaker 14 (17:59):
He would want us for me and he's good to me.
So okay, I don't know what to say, but I
don't thank you baby mama.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
So, oh my god, everybody's about to know when you
guys move in together.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Yeah, I mean his baby mama knows.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Oh well look at that.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
Did she try to fight you?
Speaker 14 (18:20):
Oh no, she told me she was gonna pull up
out outside waiting for her to come.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
I'm outside.
Speaker 9 (18:26):
How is your kids?
Speaker 3 (18:29):
All right?
Speaker 5 (18:29):
Well?
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Thank you for sharing, you know?
Speaker 3 (18:33):
All right? Well that was tell us to see ing.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
I like all the drama.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
It was a lot of drama.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
I was like, young, young, and we don't I do we.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Don't, we don't judge. Right, he's even me come back.
Let's talk about Joe Rule. Now, he recently went on
Piers Morgan. I don't know why, but we'll tell you.
What happened in that interview is way.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
Up, yo, She's about to blow the lid off this pot.
Let's get it. Angela's feeling that yee te Come and
get the tea.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
It's way but Angela, yee. I'm Angela Ye. Surrounded by
comedians today, God for his hair. Dante Narrow is here. Wow,
and let's get into some of yee t all right now,
Joe Rule was on Piers Morgan uncensored and you gotta
turn his mic on?
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Is that done?
Speaker 16 (19:24):
Now?
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Anybody? Mark?
Speaker 11 (19:26):
You invited me to the show that you got these
dudes up here?
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Respect? Man, we took it over.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Man, you gotta turn his mic on.
Speaker 16 (19:36):
Neck.
Speaker 11 (19:38):
I've been calling you. I've been calling you for the
last two days, no response.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
How does that happen?
Speaker 11 (19:42):
How does that happen? I'll just bust on my How
does that happen? How does that make Let's try let's
try to let's try to talk about our friendship. I
called you twice, no response? What do they call that?
The streets say you have me on blue? Yo? What
is it when you interrupting shows, that's my thing. I
started as an interrupted. I started as an interrupted, and
I needed to interrupt.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
Y'all.
Speaker 5 (20:02):
You know what you are.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
You're a PROVOCATEURT heard that before.
Speaker 11 (20:06):
But the disrespectful started right here. These are colleagues of
mine for thirty years. Yes, now, one time in an.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Incident that I don't want to talk about, record, did
they defend me?
Speaker 4 (20:17):
That is so screwed.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Now incident that you don't want to talk about. You interrupted, y'all,
don't forget that.
Speaker 11 (20:23):
I'm my new specials streaming on Netflix right now, New Dave,
New Dawn, and I'm feeling good.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
But I want to be clear. We did make a
topic out of your special. We talked about it NonStop.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
You talked about how that's the wrong mic?
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Can you turn his mic on?
Speaker 17 (20:37):
Sid?
Speaker 3 (20:37):
What's going on? Guys? That's why?
Speaker 4 (20:42):
Okay, I got a little thread. What you saying? Go
back to the already talked about.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Disrespect, About the disrespect. I do want to say. These
are your colleagues, your peers.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
I did not know that's what you want to call them?
Speaker 1 (20:57):
My podcast in God Free We Trust. I stood up
for you, Donell. I said, he's funny. I've never seen him,
and you do. You had those crazy rooms in Brooklyn.
I remember all of that. So you were right on
point when you said that.
Speaker 11 (21:11):
I didn't want you to stand up for me, but
I wanted you to stand up for comedy.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
But I am standing up for you.
Speaker 11 (21:16):
Weren't talking about this. I want to talk about this more.
I'm always going to be on the side of comedy.
I'm always gonna be on the side of people paying
the dudes working hard and getting the accohlades and get
there and get what they're doing.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
I hate in the world is people make excuses.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Don't question me. I'm trying to use all the big words.
I'm going anymous. I don't have to beg with for that.
I just learned that the other day.
Speaker 11 (21:38):
I'm from a place where hard work work at this
uh uh main things happening for you. Yes, and it's
so messed up now. The way this industry is taught
it like the only way you can make it now.
You have to do certain type of things to be successful.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
Very true.
Speaker 11 (21:50):
So I represent when I when I stand up and
represent you, I represent for you, and I represent for you.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
I appreciate that answer you got question yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
So my question is why were you not here to
promote you?
Speaker 4 (22:02):
Why weren't you here to promote your special man? Because
I don't know, I don't know why.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
That makes no sense, It.
Speaker 4 (22:12):
Makes no sense.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
It makes this is this is supposed to be my
brother right here now, Why why are you not here?
Speaker 3 (22:17):
Dona co and you, by the way, had you.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
I don't know how to answer some question. I love
you too much.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
You had an amazing launch party.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
You actually were at Dave Chappelle's New Comedy Clubs breaking
it in and that was your launch party.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
How was that? It was great? I mean, what made
this great for me?
Speaker 11 (22:39):
Because you could you know, I wanted to do it
here in New York one of the reasons because I
wanted to be easy for you to ten And I
was like this, well I could do the la it
could be start studying in New York. But the people
that came was a lot of my family, a lot
of friends. So it was very very like intimate and
the energy, it wasn't no negative energy in there. It
wasn't no naysayers, it wasn't no people like being critical
of it.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
It was people that love appreciated me. We had a
good time. We left.
Speaker 11 (23:01):
We started his club, but the party party was we
went to my house. I shout out to my guy,
Chef Gerl, one of my friends. You stole from me.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Yeah, wow, he's actually better friends with me. Now, I
shout out to chef.
Speaker 11 (23:11):
She stole still his friend, but he did, he did,
and were talking about a Michelin star guy. He did
a great meal for us. We had a good time.
We danced with party and we celebrated. We celebrated what
I consider all right.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
We're gonna get into the next break.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
We're gonna you.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Can the next break too. Okay, how's that all right?
Speaker 4 (23:29):
It's a new day under the it's next and I'm
feeling good.
Speaker 6 (23:32):
It's wishing the news that relates to you. These stories
are flying under the radar.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
It's way up and angela ye, and god he's here,
Yeah what Ute narrows here?
Speaker 3 (23:42):
And Don Rowling's just busted in the room.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
I'm feeling.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
It's supposed to be under the radar. But this turned
into something else?
Speaker 3 (23:52):
Right now? What's that turning to Donnelle in here?
Speaker 11 (23:56):
It's so funny said that, because about three years ago
I started this adventure is called Donnelle Land. When I
was doing these outdoor shows with Dave Chappelle out there,
I was like the count counselor and I created all
the activities, and then once he stopped doing that.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
So I still want to do those things.
Speaker 11 (24:08):
That people fell in love with, like canoeing, kayaking, which
is the same thing we have all.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
I don't know. I feel like your teachers want to
tell me to read out loud in class. It's too
much pressure. Don't pressure me.
Speaker 11 (24:24):
But it's a it's a it's a great weekend. This
is the forty years Donnell Land. It's a great weekend.
Were bringing families. Why is everybody always laughing at.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Listen? It's a weekend of fun.
Speaker 11 (24:37):
We have comedy, we have a kickball, we have stand
up comedy.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
We have say it twice again your comedy, stand up
comedy of canoeing, kayaking and voting canoe.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
And sound bath. Yeah we're doing sound back. Yeah you
can follow sept.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
Today is a.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
Sound bad.
Speaker 11 (25:03):
And then we had last year we uh uh uh
started doing like Nature Heights.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
But it's a good weekend. It's the fourth year of
coming up.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
It's great for kids to by the way. They have rides,
they have food. I feel like, yeah, the food was free.
I will say, bring your liquor in a brown bag.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
Well, now what we're.
Speaker 11 (25:20):
Doing since you said that, we got a liquor sponsor
we're gonna deal with. And then as much as I
promoted as the family experience, we're gonna have Donnelle Lamb
after dark so you don't have to bring the brown
paper bags.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
We can do it doing no freak offs now, because
we don't mean.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
That's that's the old. That's the old donell new day
is a new daw And I'm feeling good. It's a
new night. I'm excited about it.
Speaker 11 (25:41):
It's the it's the fourth year, and like the first year,
I didn't know what to expect. But now what I
like about it is that the young kids are talking
to their parents like are we going to Donnelle Land.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
But my friend's daughter shout out to Dahlia and and Zoe.
She came and she had didn't want to leave. She
was like, I want to move here.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
Dahlia just left her.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Yeah, you forgot.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
She was like, anyway, I got down. Now special a New.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Day on Netflix, And when we come back, we got
the way up next to the top of the hour
plus it's a wealth Wednesday, we have Katini from Katini
Skin joining us.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
It's way up, they.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
Say in the rooms.
Speaker 6 (26:21):
From Industry Shade to all the gossip. Angela's speeling that.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
It's way up.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
And Angela ye, I'm Angela yee. And Godfrey and Dante
Nara are here with yes. Rowlands was all through the
building earlier. So now listen, get the show back on
track and get into some y et all right now.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Jo Rul was on Piers Morgan.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Uncensored yesterday and I could tell Piers Morgan didn't know
what to ask Joe Rule because he just asked him
about fifty cent and kept pressing him about it. Now
here's what he had to say about fighting fifty cent?
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Who would win if you had to fight?
Speaker 16 (26:57):
That's happened already to piss you got to do your research, man, research.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
I knew the various members of your gangs you actually
had a physical fight with absolutely I did. I mean
gangs really appears, Morgan.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Aren't you brought up the crypts and the bloods. Explain, please,
don't be a shack.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
You are more black people.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
It's a gang a gang now rue though, the reason
why he did this interview was because remember he was
trying to go do these shows in the UK and
then found out he couldn't get in, and so here's
what he had to say about that.
Speaker 16 (27:37):
I'm devastated by this whole situation. You know, I put
a lot into this tour, and you know, I thought
it was a gold piss. I thought everything was fine
and then at the last minute I find out that
it's not.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
And you know, it.
Speaker 16 (27:51):
Really sucks because the people will get hurt, the most.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
Of the fans.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
All right, Well, so he can't go to the UK.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
No, and he said he spent like half a million
dollars get any shows like promoted Getting Ready.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
Why did he ever felt?
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Yeah, and I guess you know, I didn't know it
was that.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
That strict to get Everyone says Canada, but terrible.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Apparently this is terrible too.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
All right now, Dial Hugly was on the Jason Lee
Show and one thing that he talked about was his
issues with Monique and how Monique has has caused his
rift at home for him.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Here's what he had to say.
Speaker 8 (28:29):
Whatever it says, open up a wound and my daughter
that we're arguing about right now, I've never had much
my life because the love of my children I always
has and something jeopardizes that I can never forgive me for.
Speaker 7 (28:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
So, if you recall, Monique had some things to say
about about what Dial hugely has been honest about in
the past, about his relationship with his daughter.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Yeah, so I don't. Yeah, that's tough, man, because I
was thinking, man, they should at.
Speaker 18 (28:54):
Least you make up you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
But you know, I ain't got to do with that part.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
I mean, the question also is where where what was
his apology and how did the relationship move forward in
the first place that somebody on the outside could mention
something and just blow the whole relationship up.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Yeah, you know, but sometimes it is like something gets
brought back up and then social media, yoh yeah, affect
kids a lot more like we think about it. We're
a lot stronger than kids are, you know nowadays. And
then lastly, for some reason, Buster Rymes has canceled his
Blackbusted tour. There's no explanation yet and he hasn't given
a comment on it, but everybody was excited for that.
(29:34):
So Ticketmaster, I guess, is going to figure out how
they're going to reimburse people. But get ready for that.
It with twenty one dates that were said to be
part of his tour.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Dope, Yeah, so not why you canceling Bust? I need
to know.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
I saw Busted in La Man at this some thing,
this event, this like afrobeat event, and you know he
was he.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Looked lean out, he's lean he looked good. He's like, yo,
I'm ready son.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
He was up here. We had a really good, nice
long interne you.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
Yeah. He's also on this self care thing.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
Yeah, and so we don't know what it is until
he says, I guess you can't mention, but that is
your yet. When we come back, god He's here, and uh,
Dante Narrow's here, We're going to talk to you guys
about both of your respective podcasts, your relationship with each other.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Yes, that's way up.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
I've been way up with Angela ye more.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Now it's way up at Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
And Godfrey is here, Dante Narrow is here now, god
for you've been here a ton of times.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
But yes again I will say this. I'm the originator.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
You are, Yeah, actually you launched the show with.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Me, that's right, I sure did. Don't you all forget that?
Speaker 2 (30:38):
And Dante, this is your first time, and so let's
talk about your podcast too, because I've had you on
lip service before.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
Yeah, shut it down, shut it down? You still doing it?
Speaker 16 (30:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (30:50):
I did it once you did.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
We got to get you back.
Speaker 4 (30:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
You had a talk track talking about Greece and how
much you look like.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
It was terrible. I went off. We're like, sir, about
do you eat?
Speaker 3 (31:02):
It's not the type of grease you're talking about, all right,
So yeah, Dante, let's talk to you for me.
Speaker 10 (31:06):
Yeah, so I I I actually was doing the podcast.
I actually did a radio show in twenty twenty six
to two thousand and six with Patrice I Love and
it became kind of a There was like thirteen episodes.
It was a test show that we did and it
just went on the internet and then ultimately became most
(31:29):
like it was called Black Philip, like they were like,
you sound like the Black Doctor Phil and he was like,
I'm Black Philip, right and uh. And it was about relationship,
which which actually was the inception of the whole MANI Sphere,
Red Pill, the Kevin Samuels, Andrew Tate Fresh and all
of those podcasts kind of were listening to that stuff
(31:51):
in two thousand and six and they grew up on
that stuff, and then all these other podcasts became uh,
you know.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
Like from that, from that, okay, and then when.
Speaker 10 (32:01):
Patris manly podcast Man, and then when Patrice passed, I
did it. I did the podcast was called Bage Philip,
which was me being lightest than Patrice. Instead of Black Philip,
I was Bage Philip. And then we changed it to
rebranded it as Man's School. And I just through relationship,
uh counseling. I do one on one Dante dot Commune
(32:22):
and click on consulting and let me tell you it
is dope.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
He's helped a lot of people with the I'm not
even playing.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Yeah, And I do live. I do a live consultation
on air every Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Oh, I have an idea. Let's do a consultation with
God for you right now.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
Angela is a very good show. I want to tell
you I don't need help.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
That's how you know someone needs help.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
I'll sneakers value seventy Donald Trump sneakers, Yeah, from four
hundred dollars to like ninety dollars.
Speaker 10 (33:00):
He also hasn't printed them. He hasn't built, he hasn't
manufactured them.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
My sneakers I released in February Black History Month.
Speaker 4 (33:08):
Perfect time.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
So let's look at Godfree, right and you know him
pretty well. That's your friend, all right. So when it
comes to issues and relationships, what would you say he
needs to take accountability for?
Speaker 4 (33:21):
Oh? Wow, uh Godfrey?
Speaker 10 (33:25):
If I had to say Godfrey is uh, he likes him,
he likes being around himself.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
He doesn't.
Speaker 10 (33:32):
He doesn't really he's not really emotionally available. Oh uh
and uh and he gets bored really quick.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
So, wow, you're not fun anymore, chilling up work.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Why do you think you're so emotionally unavailable.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Because I don't care gosh, I mean all over the place.
And I think too because I'm just in the period
of life where I'm like, it's all like self making stuff. Now,
I'm just on a focus. I'm like I'm getting somewhere
some kind of way. No one's really giving me help.
It's just you know what i mean, We're finding new
ways to navigate our careers. So it's like I'm on
that all the time. I need to put on content,
(34:14):
I need something like it's like the second half of
my life man, I'm just I don't know. I have
a different And if somebody falls in place, cool, but.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
I really in place. If it falls in place.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
It's interesting how you you pick up on the words
that people describe it.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Give you wally, then I'm cool with it is, but
I don't.
Speaker 10 (34:37):
I think when when Godfrey was younger, he had a
specific ideas about what relationship would be, and now that
he has his freedom, he doesn't want to go back
to that. He doesn't want to go to a situation
where somebody's telling him what to do and he doesn't like.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
He doesn't like it, even if it's something he wants
to do. If you tell him to do what he want.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
The problem.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
There's a free in my name God free.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
All right, But listen, Dante narrows here, God for you
is here. And now that we did that, let's do
some advice with you, guys. One eight hundred nine fifty
one fifty is a number. Call us up, ask you.
Maybe we'll just ask Dante.
Speaker 4 (35:14):
Could.
Speaker 6 (35:17):
I don't care whether it's relationship or career advice. Angela's
dropping facts, so you should you should know if this is.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Askey, what's up? Is way yup with Angela yee. I'm
Angela Yee. And God for you is here, narrow is here?
Speaker 3 (35:32):
All right?
Speaker 2 (35:32):
Now, this is serious segment. This is asky and people
call up for advice eight hundred two ninety two fifty
one fifty. You are ready to give some advice?
Speaker 4 (35:40):
Absolutely?
Speaker 3 (35:40):
I know y'all got some great life advice.
Speaker 4 (35:42):
May's what he does.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
We have Arianna on the line. What's up, Ariana?
Speaker 1 (35:46):
Hi, how you guys doing today?
Speaker 9 (35:47):
Good?
Speaker 3 (35:48):
How are you good?
Speaker 15 (35:49):
Good?
Speaker 12 (35:50):
Do you need some advice though?
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Okay? What's your question?
Speaker 12 (35:53):
Okay? So my ant's birthday party is this weekend, and
I really want to show up for her. You know,
she's said she's not doing the best. But me and
her daughter and my cousin have been beefing for years. Okay,
I don't know how to keep my cool?
Speaker 3 (36:06):
Oh beefing?
Speaker 8 (36:07):
Like?
Speaker 3 (36:07):
How for what she has?
Speaker 12 (36:09):
You know, did some sketchy so money for me?
Speaker 3 (36:12):
How much money does she steel? I'm just curious.
Speaker 12 (36:14):
About to fifteen hundred dollars?
Speaker 3 (36:15):
Woh, that's a lot of money.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Now, and I know your aunt knows about this, right,
so everybody the family probably all knows.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Yes, And what was there a reason for doing that?
And like, what did she say when you confronted her?
Speaker 12 (36:28):
Not really much, you know, just that she was down bad.
She didn't really have a good excuse or reason, just
that she knew I had it and she didn't.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
Okay, terrible reason.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
But like you said, you're going there for your aunt
and she's really sick and not feeling well. And I'm
sure she has a good relationship with her own daughter.
Speaker 12 (36:45):
Right, Yeah, yeah, they're close, especially since she's sick.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
And sometimes you got to put aside for the sake
of somebody else, sacrifice the way that you feel about someone.
I'm not saying you got to like your cousin or
interact with her, but you know, just show up and
be neutral. If she tries to speak to you or
say something, keep it cordial.
Speaker 12 (37:05):
In short, gotcha. Okay.
Speaker 10 (37:07):
If you're in a situation you got you have to
think about what your objective is, and if your objective
is to be there for your aunt, that's what the
objective is.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
Everything else is peripheral.
Speaker 10 (37:16):
Somebody who steals fifteen hundred dollars from you will always
be stealing fifteen They will always never have the money
that they need, They'll never be in a place because
they don't live righteous in the first place. So if
you understand what the destination, which is to be there
for your aunt, all the rest of the stuff doesn't
matter unless you're going to be selfish about what you
(37:37):
particular feel, what you're feeling inside instead of what your
regular objective is.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
Just for your own self.
Speaker 1 (37:43):
Sometimes you can even maybe confer say, you know what,
I know what you've done with everybody. Forgive you for that,
just for your own release.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
I forgive you for that. But that's that's where it is.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
That's it, you know, maybe you could do that for
yourself as far as just growing.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
You know, goodness is great for you personally, so you
don't have this burden of feeling about somebody but not
saying that you have to let her back into your life, right,
But that's for you. Like I forgive you, I'm gonna
always make money and be good and I'm not that
type of person to do anything like that, but I
won't give you the access, so you can do it
to me again.
Speaker 12 (38:18):
Sure word, no, thank you, So just lead with forgiveness
and go by my day.
Speaker 4 (38:23):
Yeah, yes, indeed, and be there for your aunt.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
Be there for your aunt and understand that you, guys,
won't You and your cousin aren't going to have the
type of relationship where she'll ever be able to do
that to you.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Again, she's not.
Speaker 10 (38:34):
Even capable, probably not even capable. She doesn't have the
emotional acuity to even have a relationship, right.
Speaker 12 (38:40):
Okay, thank you guys so much.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
Yeah, thank you, and prayers to your aunt Arianna, and
thank you for calling.
Speaker 12 (38:46):
Thank you guys.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
By all right, Well that was ask ye eight hundred
two ninety fifty one fifty. In case you couldn't get through,
you can always leave a message. And it is a
Wealth Wednesday. When we come back, we have Katini, the
founder of Katini's Skin, joining us and she's going to
talk about how she was able to get this awe
natural skincare product in stores in sacts and name is
am Berg Dove's high End.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
It's way up.
Speaker 10 (39:08):
I had a dream of wealthy and I don't mind
sharing my wealth dog.
Speaker 6 (39:12):
Getting you straight financially, mentally and physically. This is Wealth
Wednesday on Way Up with Angela Yee.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (39:18):
Its way up at Angela Yee on our Wealth Wednesday.
I'm Angela Yee and Stacy Tisday.
Speaker 15 (39:23):
Happy Wealth Wednesday, everybody, we are going to help you
look good, feel good, and we're going to tell you
how to be an amazing entrepreneur because we have Katini herself,
the singer, songwriter, skincare everything.
Speaker 7 (39:37):
We're just so excited to have you today.
Speaker 18 (39:39):
Thank you so much for having me.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
I trust you because your skin looks amazing.
Speaker 18 (39:42):
All right, Thank you work, oh, thank you. Thank you
so excited to be here.
Speaker 15 (39:49):
And you bring a lot of your spiritual approach to
life into your music and to your business. I was
reading how you said that the importance of mental, physical, emotional,
and spiritual balance for entrepreneurs is critical.
Speaker 7 (40:01):
Talk a little bit about.
Speaker 17 (40:02):
That totally, and I mean I learned that growing up
through this you know, the meditation and yoga that was around,
but it's the only thing that kind of can expand
your mind. And really, like, we live in a world
where we're seeing so many things in the external that
can limit us in the way that we see ourselves,
especially where we come from, our culture, erase our background.
But the spiritual aspect really like puts the pause in
(40:24):
all of that allows me to like tap into myself
and be like who am I and what do I
want to do and helps me expand my mind.
Speaker 18 (40:30):
So I think it's it's really important that we tap
into that.
Speaker 3 (40:33):
It's wealth Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
I have my partner, Stacy Tisdale here with me and
we're talking to Katini. She's the founder of Katini Skin
but also a singer and songwriter.
Speaker 15 (40:41):
And you've brought all of that to money and entrepreneurship.
And I know you got your initial funding from the
Black Progress Resources Collective, which is an incubator. Yes, and
I think a lot of we have so many wonderful
entrepreneurs in our audiences, and I don't think a lot
of them know what business incubators are or know how
(41:02):
to tap into them. So tell us all about that.
Now you're on the board, you tell us how to
join you in everything.
Speaker 18 (41:07):
Yeah, totally.
Speaker 17 (41:08):
So I had a phone call from a friend of
mine that I had helped on this like luxury beauty
conference that he hosts once a year, and he's like,
this is amazing organization called Black Progress Resources that is
looking to partner with a young founder. I put a
few names forward. They really resonated with your story. Do
you want to take the call?
Speaker 18 (41:28):
And I was like, I'll take any care I got
nothing going on right now.
Speaker 17 (41:32):
And what they do is they work to change the
color of the executive suite across corporate America. There are
staffing program so they'll staff like a black CEO to
then inspire everybody at the company that yes, there.
Speaker 18 (41:43):
Is a place for you and yes you can work
towards that.
Speaker 17 (41:46):
And they also have a business incubator and as one
of their very first brands and founders, they wanted to
work with me.
Speaker 18 (41:53):
On a beauty brand.
Speaker 17 (41:54):
And they had found out that I had this holistic
background and that I really loved natural beauty.
Speaker 18 (42:00):
So I was just like, oh my god, is this
like this is like.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
Really a dream to put it out there, and the
universe answered you.
Speaker 18 (42:06):
Really, And I think it's life is like that.
Speaker 17 (42:09):
If you like have a passion for something and you
can visualize it, it's just a matter of time until
reality catches up with that.
Speaker 7 (42:15):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (42:16):
And it's also planting those seeds where the relationship that
you had with him where you helped him with something
and then he knew your skills and capabilities that he
could actually co sign you for this opportunity. That's why
it's important how you show up for people and how
you represent yourself too, because you don't know how that's
going to come back.
Speaker 17 (42:33):
Along our journey, We'll have like random well, I mean
I've had so many random jobs to like, you know,
make ends meet. But each of those jobs and each
of those opportunities and the people that you meet, you
have to treasure them because you just don't know when
your paths are going to cross.
Speaker 18 (42:46):
And so this was one of those moments.
Speaker 17 (42:48):
And so I was like, I want to start a company,
but a part of me is like I want to
make sure that my partners understand the importance of uplifting
the community. And we're talking about this like backstage, but
it's like people of color come from a lineage of
kings and queens and emperors and empresses, Like we need
to see ourselves in that way. And so creating Katini's
(43:08):
Skin has been like, you know, paying homage to ancient
wisdom and all of the beauty secrets that run deep
within my culture and bringing them to the modern world,
but in a sense that can like sit alongside legacy brands.
Speaker 3 (43:21):
Katini is like the perfect name too. It just sounds
so good.
Speaker 2 (43:24):
All right, Katini is here, the founder of Katini Skin
we have more with her when we come back on
a Wealth Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (43:29):
It's way up.
Speaker 10 (43:30):
I bet a dream of wealthy and I don't mind
sharing my wealth dogs.
Speaker 6 (43:33):
Getting you straight financially, mentally and physically. This is Wealth
Wednesday on Way Up with Angela Yee.
Speaker 3 (43:39):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (43:40):
Its way up with Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee. It's
a Wealth Wednesday. So Stacy Tisdale is here with me
and our special guest today is Katine. She is the
founder of Katini Skin. Well, let's get back to these
business incubators all right, So Katini, can you talk about
what this business incubator program did for you?
Speaker 18 (43:57):
Totally?
Speaker 17 (43:57):
So what happened was we have this cool and they
were like, we want to build this company with you.
We will fund it and help you get the resources
to bring your product to the market. Now to me,
I was just like that's everything because I love beauty.
Speaker 18 (44:11):
But I know nothing about it and they teach you
and they you Yeah. So I had an incredible team.
Speaker 17 (44:16):
I was able to build Katini Skin like I had
a lot of the recipes just in my little book
since I was like a kid and what I wanted,
But they had the relationships with the lab, So we
brought what I had had to the lab.
Speaker 18 (44:28):
We developed that.
Speaker 17 (44:29):
We spent two years incubating Katini's skin, but they helped
me everything from like packaging and making you know, yeah.
Speaker 3 (44:36):
It looks really really nice and clean.
Speaker 7 (44:38):
Thank you. I love it.
Speaker 15 (44:40):
I love it because we always talk about the challenges
to access to funding. Yeah, and people don't realize in
these incubator and accelerator programs they pick you.
Speaker 7 (44:49):
Yes, they train you, they mentor.
Speaker 15 (44:51):
You, they help you with the design, packaging and stuff,
and then they fund you.
Speaker 7 (44:57):
Yes.
Speaker 15 (44:57):
And it's a lot of entrepreneurs of color don't know
they exist. It's accelerators, incubators, and there's actually a National
Business Incubator Association where you can check out and you're
on the board.
Speaker 7 (45:09):
Now, tell people how they would find that's amazing.
Speaker 17 (45:12):
Yeah, Black progos Resources dot Com would love. We work
with partnerships with like Walmart in the NFL and some
amazing companies where we'll go in sort of staff executives
at the company.
Speaker 2 (45:22):
When it comes to your products, So it took you
two years right to develop, So what were the first items,
What were the first products that you came out with?
Speaker 3 (45:29):
In your life.
Speaker 17 (45:30):
Came out with the four Oils. Okay, this is our
hero product. It took a while for like a lot
of the ingredients to come in because I wanted to
focus on ingredients and wild harvested flora from Japan, Australia
and then in Africa as well.
Speaker 2 (45:43):
First of all, you know, I'm a skin product junkie.
She is, and I always say this to men, y'all
need to pay attention to your skin too, because a
lot of guys would be like, I just use soap
and you know, regular lotion on my face. And you
got to start like, not that you have to have
problem skin, You want to start early so that you
later on don't have those issues.
Speaker 3 (46:00):
Yeah, it's well Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (46:02):
I have my partner, Stacy Tisdale here with me and
we're talking to Katini. She's the founder of Katini Skin
but also a singer and songwriter. Listen, once you had
this product, right, the next step is how do people
get the product? And you've done some great partnerships, so
talk about how once the product was in, now we
have to get it in stores because that's a whole
nother process in itself.
Speaker 18 (46:22):
So when we launched Katini's Skin.
Speaker 17 (46:25):
It was right around the same time that the fifteen
percent pledge came in, so a lot of these larger
retailers were like, we need to create space for black
and brown brands and founders, and so I remember I
was very clear, I'm like, I want us to live
in that luxury space. It was like all emailing following up,
like when was this? This was like twenty twenty. We
(46:46):
ended up launching with SAX fifth Avenue, So it was
just like it first you imagined it, and then like
we did out. You know, we did our work. We
had meetings with them, and they just fell in love
with the brand and they loved that we were inspired
by culture and I really wanted to bring my Asian
and African roots together and that's something that resonated with them.
So we started with sas online and then shortly after
(47:06):
it burked off, Goodman picked us up and.
Speaker 7 (47:10):
Dream how did you get that meeting with Sax.
Speaker 18 (47:13):
It was through the incubators.
Speaker 17 (47:15):
The introduction came from there, and then I sort of
took it from there and sort of expanded on the conversations,
and then after several meetings, we were able to get
into Sacks and then Burgdorf and then Neiman Marcus.
Speaker 7 (47:26):
And they gave you funding as well, the Incubator.
Speaker 17 (47:29):
Incubator, so they funded Katini's Skin to get to market
and then now we've raised some money to then further
our marketing and grow the business.
Speaker 7 (47:37):
And where can they find Katini.
Speaker 18 (47:38):
Katini on all digital platforms? So Spotify, ituned you, yeah.
Speaker 7 (47:42):
Okay, they can find I'm sorry, skincare.
Speaker 17 (47:45):
Yea, yeah, both skincare, you can find it on our website, Burgdorf,
Neiman Sacks. We actually also just got acceptance to the
sephor Accelerate program.
Speaker 3 (47:55):
Oh okay, yeah, so.
Speaker 17 (47:56):
We were launching at Sephora in the next year, which
is like a total dream come true. And that's another
accelerated program that champions black and brown founders.
Speaker 15 (48:05):
So thank you so much, and we'll have more of
you and Wealth Wednesdays for entrepreneurs Facebook group which is free.
I'll be talking to you on Stacy Tuesday dot com
about mindfulness and money. You're incredible and thank you so
much so much for having me Wealth Wednesday.
