I really can't stand my mother in law.
Speaker 1 (05:15):

Probably not, but I feel like the feeling is mutual.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
So you secretly can't stand each other. What y'all be
doing to each other.
Speaker 6 (05:27):
It's a lot of backdoor things, like she'll talk greezy
to me, but in.
Speaker 7 (05:31):
Front of my husband she'll tone.
Speaker 8 (05:33):
It down and you know, try to water it down.
Speaker 6 (05:35):
But between me and her she's always like more aggressive,
and I'd like.
Speaker 8 (05:39):
To stay quiet because I don't want to rock the boat.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
You should record her, definitely not a good situation and
telling her how to do it.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
You should record her and it be like yo, yo, mom, Wilin.
Speaker 6 (05:48):
Well it's been sounds like you know, tell my husband
about it and he'll check her in front of me.
A're gonna talk to.
Speaker 9 (05:52):
My wife like that? You know, I'm trying to nip
it in the bud.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
That's a good man, But there's somebody I'm spending my
life with it and I gotta kind of deal with her. Yeah,
you know she maybe sometimes mothers get a little jealous.
Speaker 6 (06:03):
No, Like, I've known her my entire life, and she's
always just been real messy.
Speaker 7 (06:07):
She's still friends with all these access.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
She's musty, messy. Oh it sounds like she got her
own issues. It ain't got nothing to do with you.
She's just like that, all right.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Well, why are you just on confront of him? Just
be like you look, cause she got to be in
your life regardless.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
She ain't really been well.
Speaker 6 (06:23):
She was not a great mother to my husband growing up.
Speaker 10 (06:25):
And they're trying to mend their relationship and I definitely
don't want to step on that.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Okay, I understand that.
Speaker 8 (06:30):
Oh yeah, so I just I guess I hold this
secret into I go.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Like, yeah, all right, yeah, well listen, she gotta do
what she gotta do. At least she love her husband
and at least he'd be checking her.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (06:40):
Oh for sure, he definitely got my back.
Speaker 1 (06:42):

all right, whether.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
It's relationship with career advice, Angel's drop in facts, you.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Should what's up its way?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
But Angela yee, I'm Angela Yee and new Mana's in
the budding time for ask yee. And you know Mana
is an award winning advice giver. And we have Samora
on the line, so let's hear today's advice. What's your question,
Samarak Ye question is.
Speaker 11 (07:19):
I've been getting my boyfriend for five years, two years
and he proposed.
Speaker 8 (07:24):
I turned him down.
Speaker 11 (07:24):
I wasn't ready. I felt like it was too soon,
but now, like I feel like I'm ready. The only
thing is I don't know how to get him to
supposed to me again. So I'm just like, what should
I do? Should I propose?
Speaker 2 (07:36):
How did you stay together after saying no? Because I
know that's tough too, Like was he thinking this ain't
gonna work?
Speaker 9 (07:41):
Or was he till there was no issues after?
Speaker 11 (07:44):
It was a little weird after, but we stayed together.
Everything is fine, still love me and everything. But I
just feel like now we're just kind of on autopilot.
So we're ready for the next thing now, like you know,
five years.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
So you read you're all ready now to get married, right, yeah,
so you know what you gotta do. No, seriously, since
he proposed first, now you have to propose to him.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Should I do it?
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Like that?
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Do what he did?
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Did he did he do all that this?
Speaker 2 (08:14):
How about you talk to him and say, listen, I
know you know three years ago.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Will you marry me? Please?
Speaker 7 (08:23):
Baby? That's you?
Speaker 2 (08:24):
And because it's worth a conversation now right before you
even do that, he might have this dream of wanting
to be the one to propose.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Don't take that. Some men don't like that. You think
he would like that, like for you to shut down.
Speaker 11 (08:39):
I feel like guys don't like it whim proposed. But
I'm though, so I'm you gotta do it.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Joke around with him and be like, what if I
propose to you? Because you know I'm ready, and see
how he reacts.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
That's not a real propose, but I'm saying what his.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Reaction is to know if you should do it or
if you should let him.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Know how that man felt when she said no, he
had to pick his face up off the floor.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
But they say to get it three year, Yeah, but.
Speaker 8 (09:03):
Not right now.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
She said it was too early, and that's fair.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
He told his family, he told his friends, and then
he had to go back to them and tell him
that it didn't go through.
Speaker 9 (09:12):
This is crazy.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Now you need to propose that.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
But now he might have to go back and be like,
oh my god, she ruined everything, like she proposed to
me one of that. It was always my dream to
do X, Y and Z. Just ask him, just be like,
what if I propose to you?
Speaker 3 (09:27):
No, propose to him, because you sent that man back
to his mother with a broken heart. You know, you
know how many people he cried to over that one
knee baby.
Speaker 11 (09:36):
Okay, thank you, guys.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
She's like, I don't know what I'm doing.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
But at the end of the day, at least y'all
still love each other and you're still together, and now
you're ready. But I do feel like ask him first,
have a conversation, sit.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
Down and you ask him, and then he gonna propose.
You don't got He's traumatized. He won't even use that
knee no more.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Listen, go to dinner and be like, I know I'm
ready to get man right now.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
I know before I wasn't. How would you like to
do this? Would you? Would you want me to ask them?
Speaker 11 (10:06):
If he turns me down, I'm gonna call you, guys.
Speaker 6 (10:08):
Bag.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Yeah, it wasn't my advice, so don't.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Yeah, all right, but thank you for calling. Okay, good life,
all right, all right, but that was asking. We did
not agree on that today.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
But I gave it the best advice though, because you're
trying to give it.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Woman's proposes to you may know I can't wait and
I'm except all right, well eight hundred two nine two
fifty fifty. In case you couldn't get through, leave a message,
will give you advice and when we come back on
a Wealth Wednesday. Any questions that you have about investing
or about getting VC investing for your company. We have
Meghan Hoston Alexander joining us. She leaves the Cultural Leadership
(10:46):
Fund at VC Firm Andison Heroitz.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
It's way up kind.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
Of dream of wealthy and I don't mind sharing my
wealth dog.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
Getting you straight financially, mentally and physically. This is Wealth
Wednesday on Way Up with Angelie.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Its way up with Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee on
a Wealth of Wednesday, so you know what that means.
My partner for Wealth Wednesdays, Stacy Tisday is here and we.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
Are about to shed some sunshine on your life's, especially
the entrepreneurs out there, by introducing you to an incredible woman,
Megan Holston Alexander. She is a star in the venture
capital arena and you're all going to learn more about
that right now, because I know a lot of entrepreneurs
are out there and they're all scratching their heads about
(11:28):
raising capital and we really need to learn about this,
and we really need to learn how our community can
jump into the AI economy.
Speaker 9 (11:35):
Absolutely, I'm so happy to be here.
Speaker 10 (11:37):
Thank you both for having me You've built such a
special platform and I'm just happy to.
Speaker 9 (11:41):
Be around, so thank you so much.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
First of all, start by educating our audience what is
venture capital.
Speaker 10 (11:47):
Venture capital is early stage investment capital that is for
high growth startups, typically.
Speaker 9 (11:53):
In the tech space.
Speaker 10 (11:54):
It doesn't have to be in the tech space, but
more often than not, it's in the tech space.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Right now, I'm here with my partner for Wealth Wednesday,
Stacy Tisdale, and we have the partner at venture capital
firm Andreson Horowitz, Meghan Hoston Alexander here. You know, we's
talking about the new funds that are coming out and
the Culture and Leadership Fund. You guys do focus on
a specific group.
Speaker 10 (12:13):
So we focus on black investors, getting black capital into
tech companies, I think, getting black talent into tech companies.
And our goal is to invest black money into all
of the best companies. So we don't focus on a
type of founder, but we focus on a type of
investors and okay, the investors. The reason why we think
it's so interesting and exciting is that we put in
that additional capital with two missions in mind.
Speaker 9 (12:35):
So connecting the world's greatest cultural leaders to.
Speaker 10 (12:37):
The best new technology companies and getting more young African
Americans in tech, and for US, cultural leader means black athletes, entertainers, musicians,
c level executives who are excited about tech, and we
get to be there on ramp into doing that.
Speaker 9 (12:51):
So anytime you hear about like this athlete.
Speaker 10 (12:54):
Invested in that tech company, or this entertainer invested in
another too.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Like NAS invested in ring and here.
Speaker 10 (13:00):
Now it's not always the case, but there's a pretty
good chance that we played a part in making that happen.
And so for the people in the culture who have
the capital to invest in technology, we want to be
sure that they get their names on that cap table.
Speaker 9 (13:12):
And one of the other facts about venture that people
don't know is.
Speaker 10 (13:15):
That we actually expect most of our investments to fail.
That's what the economics is in venture. It's about your
slugging percentage. It's not your batting average, right, So we
really depend on a couple of really big hits in
any portfolio, and people have to get that mindset.
Speaker 9 (13:31):
So adventure is a very long game.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
One of the types of groups CLFS invested in, I mean,
you were telling me they're like twenty five non profits.
Speaker 10 (13:39):
Or yes, one of the things that we do is
we donate all of our management fee and carry, so
that means every single dollar that we make of profit
we donate to organizations that are specifically focused on getting
more young African Americans in tech.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
There's money to be made in tech by getting into
companies early.
Speaker 9 (13:57):
Yes, anybody out there is like my career path.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
You know, maybe you're not an entrepreneur, there's I mean,
there's really a lot of money.
Speaker 9 (14:04):
To be made by having start up early. How do
we get our tech skills up? Tech companies need everybody.
Speaker 10 (14:09):
They need HR people, they need marketing people, they need
finance and graphic designers.
Speaker 9 (14:15):
So whatever skill you already have, there's a likelihood that
a tech company needs it all right.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Meghan Hoston Alexander is here.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
She leads the Cultural Leadership Fund at venture capital firm
Andreeson Horowitz. That is Silicon Valley's first venture capital fund
consisting exclusively of black cultural leaders, including athletes, entertainers, musicians,
and CEA level executives. We have more with her when
we come back. It's way up better dream.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Of wealthy and I don't mind sharing my wealth.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Dog gen you straight financially, mentally, and physically. This is
Wealth Wednesday on Way Up with Angela Ye.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
What's Up's Way up with Angela Yee. I'm angela Ye.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
I'm here with my partner for Wealth Wednesday, Stacy Tisdale,
and we have Meghan hoston Alexander with us. She's a
partner at venture capital firm Andrew Sen Horrowest and she
also leads the Cultural Leadership Fund.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
Did you guys touch on something that's so important AI
and tech? And I heard you speak at the Power
Summit at Carnegie Hall.
Speaker 9 (15:10):
Oh yeah, a lot of hurry.
Speaker 5 (15:12):
We had a good time, and you had Reverend Al
Sharpton was there. You had Mark Morial there, Robert Smith
was there, and you could not be struck harder by
how much all of them were talking about how important
it is for the black community to get on the
AI sure technology bandwagon.
Speaker 10 (15:26):
The thing about AI is that it's not good, but
a lot of new consumer opportunities like usage for the
average person.
Speaker 9 (15:33):
That's what's becoming available these days.
Speaker 10 (15:35):
And I think one of the ways that people can
really dive in is figuring out ways to let AI
work for you in whatever job you do, whether it's
a radio host or you work in marketing, real estate.
Think about how can I use AI as like one
my creative co pilot.
Speaker 9 (15:51):
You don't have to be a coder or an engineer to.
Speaker 10 (15:54):
Like utilize AI, and it can level the playing field,
level the playing field, you know.
Speaker 9 (16:00):
The debate is like, hey, is AI gonna take job?
Is gonnachang? I don't know.
Speaker 10 (16:03):
I can't speak one way or the other, but they
said the person who uses AI will take your job.
I think the people who learn how to utilize it
and make it a tool and make it a superpower,
that's what's gonna help people be successful.
Speaker 9 (16:15):
And we can all do that.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Right now.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
I'm here with my partner for Wealth Wednesday, Stacy Tisdale,
and we have the partner at venture capital firm, Ajison Horowitz,
Meghan hosting Alexander here. I saw you posting about a
app and I was like, Oh, let me get this.
That can help you find the lowest prices for flights.
Oh that AI can help you with something like that.
And AI can help you with like putting together a
workout plan, a diet.
Speaker 9 (16:37):
That can we your calendar everything.
Speaker 10 (16:40):
And one of the coolest things about AI is like
there are now websites that will tell you how to
make a good prompt and chet gpt.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (16:49):
So how can people follow you in CLF?
Speaker 10 (16:51):
Oh yes, so CLF is at a sixteen Z CLF
on my personal page. I don't talk a lot about CLF,
but it's at Megan Hi Lexander on Instagram.
Speaker 5 (17:01):
We'll share that with everybody, And we really appreciate you
lighting the fire under people that we were all in
the tech AI economy and I'm just going to figure
out how to be in it and how we can
all capitalize it because we can. We can capitalize, and
we deserve to be a part of the economics that
are being created, and I want to help ensure and
CLF overall. It's like, how do we ensure that we
(17:22):
have some economics, some ownership, because that's where the game changes,
it's ownership.
Speaker 9 (17:26):
How do we get involved in that.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
I thank you so much for coming here too.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
I think that you're so empowering and for people to
see you speaking about things like this is going to
be a lot more of a connection than if somebody
else trying to be empowering like you. You got a
voids that people here all over the world, and so
in your own way, you are absolutely pushing the culture forward,
and I'm just trying to manage this and this is
(17:51):
our responsibility to bring people like you up here that
I think are credible, are vetted out, that have the experience,
and this means a lot to our audience. So I
appreciate you so much. It is Financial Literacy Month, but
for us, it's Financial Literacy.
Speaker 5 (18:04):
Year every year, so every day you learn what Wealth
Wednesdays is about.
Speaker 9 (18:08):
Thank you so much, such an honor.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
You can watch that phone interview on my YouTube channel
Way Up with Ye. And when we come back, you
guys have the last word.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Take up the phone tapping to get your voice heard.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
What the word is the last word?
