for two days or day and a half. And today
I want you to shine a light on somebody.
Speaker 7 (01:45):
Ooh okay, I'm going to shine a light on somebody.
I would like to shine a light on. The organization
that I am the chairperson of. It's called Sisters Organizing
to Survive. And I am the chairperson of the Orlando chapter,
but there's many chapters throughout the United States. And basically
what we do is just to quit black women in
the fight against HIV and AIDS.
Speaker 6 (02:05):
I don't know if people know.
Speaker 7 (02:06):
This, but black women account for fifty seven percent of
new HIV cases in the United States, making us the
most susceptible to get a diagnosis when it comes to HIV.
So we just basically go out and educate different women,
different groups. We do it enough fun unorthodox way. That
(02:27):
way It makes the information digestible. It makes people want
to learn and get educated about how they can go
out here and make sure that they are not contracting
any kind of STI and also HIV.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
All right, what's the website?
Speaker 7 (02:38):
You can go to www TALKTESTCFL dot com.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Well that was shine a Light eight hundred ninety one
fifty in case you couldn't get through, and we got
some yet when we come back.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
You know, it is a new music Friday.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
So let's talk about the success of somebody who maybe
y'all might have counted out tonashe will tell you what
she has to say about the success of her new song.
It's way up, they say in the rooms from industry
shade to all of gossip out Angelus feeling that all
right this way if I'm Angela is here, Hey, y'all
(04:02):
manos in the.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Buildings yet time.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
So nli Chappa is being very supportive of the lgbt
Q plus I A community. And I say, right, LGBTQ
I A plus.
Speaker 6 (04:13):
Yeah you said it right, what community?
Speaker 7 (04:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yes, since other letters now, But anyway, he said he
was to perform slup Me out to at a Pride
event because it is Pride month and return of the
love that they've showed him. And then somebody called him zesty,
and he said, I'm secure, I know who I am,
so love it won't hurt. And also, you do know
women are part of the LGBTQ community, right, you're gonna
hate them too. I mean, at the least appreciate the
(04:39):
women in that community if everything else makes you uncomfortable.
Speaker 6 (04:42):
King, I love this. I think this is dope.
Speaker 7 (04:44):
I think he is changing the narrative when it comes
to rappers in the LGBTQ plus community. So I support it,
and I hate that he's getting so much hate and
backlash because I think he really can turn this thing
around when it comes to that.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
Right, right, Have you ever done a Pride event?
Speaker 7 (05:00):
No?
Speaker 2 (05:00):
I haven't. When you say turning around, like.
Speaker 7 (05:03):
Because there's a lot of like, in my opinion, there's
a lot of stigma associated with rappers in the LGBTQ
plus community, Like we've seen other rappers say that they
won't perform at any Pride events, And here you are
half hang him, change the narrative and saying, you know,
I don't want to go.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
I have fans there.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
Do they pay?
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Yes, You'll be done right, yeah, all right now. Tanasee
says her former label RCA is gagging at the success
of her viral record and Nasty. That's her first Billboard
charting song in ten years as lead artists.
Speaker 7 (05:37):
By the way, listen, I remember when this song took
off on TikTok the little White guy dancing. He was
so cute, he made it viral, and now it's like
a sensation.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Well listen.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
She left her label in twenty nineteen, there was a
lot of conflict and she was stopped by a reporter
who asked her about this, and here's what she said.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Do you feel like RCA, you know, kind of dropped
the ball, like when you won their label because they couldn't.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Do it, you did it by or so, you know,
we just sitting and need them.
Speaker 11 (06:02):
All you need is like hard work, good sands, talent,
like I know they're.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Ganging, I know they're gaggg.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
What I love is that also things can go viral
and that can really help something take off because we
didn't used to.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
You know, back in the day.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
You have to be work. Your record had to be worked.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
Like you needed clubs, the radio. Now you put your
record out on social media, a cute video video, this,
that person do it, it takes off.
Speaker 7 (06:30):
What's almost like if you don't have a TikTok banger,
like you ain't really doing it right.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
But the flip side of that is that trying to
trying to like master that, like trying to make songs
specifically for that and it doesn't work.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, just what it.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Is people be trying to work the algorithm and then it's.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Like it's contrived, it's contrived, then it don't work.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
All right, Now, this was amazing and I love to
see it. Paul Wall was a guest performer at Megan
thee Stallion's concert and I think they were in Austin, right,
and so she called him out. When I tell you,
they went crazy for Paul Wall. Listen to this. It
(07:13):
was so dope to see she was like Paul wah,
and they started going crazy. But yeah, shout out to
Paul Wall. All right, well that is your yet. When
we come back, we have about last night. That's where
we discussed what we did last night. We had quite
a mission. My girl Koya is in town. She's not
only a personality too, but she's also my friend, and
so she came and co hosted lipservice. We'll talk about
(07:37):
that was your first time doing it. What we shall
discuss and we'll talk about, Mano, what you did as well.
Speaker 2 (07:42):

Speaker 2 (08:04):
What what kind of voice is that?
Speaker 4 (08:05):
I just tried to make it sound more.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Like is that the radio voice?
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Yeah? More like late night radio voice. So what did
you do last night?

and not dressed. I felt bad me And French was
in there not dressed.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
I know you love dressing up too, because if you're my.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Friend, I'm gonna go with the thing. Had a party
last last.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Year and it was like a old mob style kind
of thing, like old suits and stuff of that.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Is there any tea from the party or no?
Speaker 2 (08:44):
No tea? Okay, I'm not in the tea business.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
So you were fresh? Mountana came in there not dressed
with the theme. All right, all right? Well, Koya and I.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Were working last night. We did two episodes of lip service.
Before we did that, we walked a lot. But you know,
I'm a walker, like I like to walk places. I
took the train.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
We took still with this train thing.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Huh, well, no, yesterday, I took the train now today,
but we walked down to lip service, And what was
your experience, like, Coya, your first time doing lip service?
Speaker 6 (09:09):
It was fun.
Speaker 7 (09:10):

Gomember? This young lady we started seeing each other, kind
of fail for each other, but a sister with eye
and me all. I never pursue her until he got
a little older. But I met her sister a while back.
She moved out of town. Me and her sisters stared
seeing each other and we got intimate, but I don't
(13:12):
think even one of us told the other sister. I
know I have been.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Told, but did you put them together though?
Speaker 5 (13:18):
Like to take one they don't even know, sit them
down and and like be with them both at the
same time.
Speaker 13 (13:24):
No separate times, separate times, separate years.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
They don't even know about it. The other sister don't even.
Speaker 13 (13:29):
Know that he did that. You know what they do
that he killed me. I'm still living, so they couldn't
know about it.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
You know what I've been through that it had to
happen to me, sister.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
It's like a separate times and it's like and I've
seen them both recently and I was just like, Wow,
they feel.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Away now, don't I'm not hurting about it, but.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
Do you feel Do you ever talk to either one
of them?
Speaker 13 (13:51):
I do talk to one as we speak. She on
the birthdays? Oh my gosh, she invited me to a
birthday party, so I'm gonna show up hopefully other.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Hey are you drinking right now? Bro?
Speaker 9 (14:05):

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Definitely not all right? Thank you for calling?
Speaker 12 (14:09):
All right with you too?
Speaker 2 (14:11):
All right?
Speaker 3 (14:12):
All right, Well, let's get ready for some yet when
we come back the funniest people on the Internet right now?
Speaker 4 (14:18):
Cooya, I know you love this topic.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
I am so excited to talk about all this.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
All right, mano, who you think is the funniest person
on the internet?
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Uh, I'm not sure.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
All right, we'll talk about the list, all right when
we come back on yet is way up?
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Oh, she's about to blow the lid off this pot.
Let's get it.
Speaker 8 (14:35):
Angela's feeling that.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Yee te come and get the tea.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
All right, it's way up. I'm Angela. Yee manos here,
my girl, Koya is here. Hey, y'all, Hey girl, Now
you know we have been talking about this fight this weekend,
right and you know, of course we do want to
see Javonte Davis fight and hopefully win.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
I know, but I believe right, who are you betting on?
Speaker 2 (14:57):
I'm betting on Javonte?
Speaker 3 (14:58):
But all right, so maybe we have to do it
it round for a round, because I also would bet
on Javonte Davis.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
You said you liked the other guy. Who's the other guy,
Frank Martin?
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Okay, yes, I did not say that. But there was
some drama last night. Floyd Mayweather put up a post
saying that it was canceled, right, and then Javonte Davis
responded and called him a hater.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
I'm not sure what's going on.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
The two of them have gone back and forth as
far as butting heads, but it looks like it is
still on even though yeah, they beef for whatever reason.
And then Javonte Davis also said that he that Floyd
is a terrible business person. He said, if you signed
with this fraud, he will f up your career. He's
not a good businessman at all.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
You said, you said that to me you thought it
was over.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Well, I mean, and I got that.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
I was like, oh no. When I showed it to
I was next to me, I just oh no.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
But I didn't put up that post. Floyd really put
up bet say canceled and I didn't know what was
going on. All right, And he's also been promoting a
UFC fight.
Speaker 12 (15:58):
All right.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
The funniest people on the internet right now, let's discuss
Quoiet is heavy on the internet. Yes, and she's a
great at doing all of the content. She's like a
really a professional at it. So I want to know
what your thoughts are because Drewski is number one on
the list.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
He is really funny, yeah, and just look at the
content that he's produced in the last few years. I
mean you can't not say that he isn't funny and
what he has done on the Internet has really been
a testament of that.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
And he's dating Ruby Rosey. He really puts just still
going on. I think. So Ruby Rose was trending yesterday,
by the.
Speaker 6 (16:35):
Way, Yeah we found out why.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Yeah she's why. She looks good.
Speaker 6 (16:39):
We'll show you.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
But anyway, Yes, so Drewski also him doing that reality
show on YouTube, the competition that was really funny.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
Tell so he does a great job.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Now.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Number eight on the list was Desi Banks, and he
felt it seems like he was upset about his position. Yeah,
like even just being acknowledged, that's still a big deal.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
And you know, it was crazy. Some of these people
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (17:01):
I'm not that great at so there were a few
I didn't know as well, And as you know, I'm
heavy on the internet as well.
Speaker 6 (17:08):
I saw curv O.
Speaker 7 (17:09):
He's from Orlando, so who stand up Orlando? Yes, so
I thought that was pretty dope. But yeah, some of
these people I was not familiar with, but most of
them I were. And I think it was a Dope.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
List and Kay Sinada is number fourteen, but I never
he is funny, but he's not necessarily trying to make
funny content because it's more like a streamer.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
So he made the list.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
Cameron and Mace a number sixteen on the list, and
so it's just interesting because I guess it's the funniest people.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
But is it like a podcast or content creator? You
know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (17:38):
It's like a blurry correct like what was the eighty
five South made it onto the list?
Speaker 4 (17:44):
All right? Now, a couple of more things.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Tyler Perry has a new movie and he just put
out the trail list and make sure y'all checked it out,
making good and Corey Hardrick. It is called Divorce in
the Black and so can't wait to see that. That's
going to be on Prime July eleventh. And also Jack
Harlow is starring alongside Matt damon a new Apple TV
Plus movie, The Instigators that's coming out on August night.
(18:07):
All right, that is your Yet when we come back,
we have under the radar. These are the stories that
are not necessarily in the headlines. They are flying under
the radar. And we'll talk about some people who got
in trouble for being fake busy at work.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
It's way up.
Speaker 8 (18:20):
God yah news this in the news that relates to you.
These stories are flying under the radar, all right.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
It's way up on Mandaa yee maynos in the mid
and of course coy is here. Hey girl, Hey, stay
out of Florida m H. And I do want to
acknowledge that there's some heavy rainfall that is causing flooding
in South Florida that's been happening since Tuesday, and they're
saying that's going to continue.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
Some roads are turning into canals.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Residents have to stand on the roofs of their cars
or go through waste deep waters.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (18:48):
You know, I'm in Orlando, so we're not seeing as
much as the flooding there. But I'm from Sarasota and
it literally looks like a movie. Like to realize the
streets that I used to drive down every day are
flooded like that.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
It's Wild's Sasolda. I like that city, a great beach town.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Well, they're also expecting severe thunderstorms in the East that
are going to develop, and so they're saying that's going
to start in Pennsylvania Friday, afternoon and then spread into
the Northeast like DC, Baltimore, Philly, New York City and
Boston could be in the path of strong storms.
Speaker 6 (19:20):
So just be aware of that, so I might be
stuck here longer.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
You good girl, I got a room for you, all right.
And Wells Fargo has fired a dozen people.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
You know what was happening.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
They were accused of faking keyboard strokes, that is, for
simulation of keyboard activity. In other words, they was fake
busy at work, all right. So you know how people
just kind of like move the mouse around and it's
a device, it's a mouse jiggler, and it costs twenty
dollars and it keeps your screen active and it moves
the cursor in random ways. And so a lot of
(19:53):
people were buying this during the pandemic and people were
working from home. That's how they were able to monitor
how much work you were doing. And so some bankers
got caught last month that Wells Fargo. So I don't
know where they were working from, but yes.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
That do goo. They wasn't doing the work. That is smart.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
I like that remember that commercial where the guy was
like fake talking about being fake busy at work when
every time you walk in, somebody's like running around doing
something and you're like, okay, like stop, you're not doing nothing.
Speaker 6 (20:22):
Don't nothing even need to be done?
Speaker 10 (20:23):
Right?
Speaker 4 (20:23):
People be so fake busy. Well, these people got caughts
and in good news.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
If you want to renew your passport, you can now
apply to do that online. They're doing a trial run
allowing a limited number of people to apply for their
updated travel documents online.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
You have to be twenty five or older.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
You have to be renewing a passport that was isshuld
be between two thousand and nine and twenty fifteen. You
cannot change your personal information, so if you have a
different last name, you're not eligible and you won't travel
overseas for at least eight weeks after you apply. So
that's a big deal because I had to send mine
in and then wait for it to come back in
the mail.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
It's nerve wracking. You're like, when is it going to
be ready? When it's going to be ready?
Speaker 7 (21:00):
So this is nice and it's such an old way
of doing things that I'm happy that we're finally on
track to progressing to doing things a little bit more.
Speaker 6 (21:07):
Twenty twenty four.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
Ish, all right, and that is your under the radar.
You know, we got the Way Up mixed at the
top of the hour. Plus the legendary Leyla Hathaway is
going to be joining us her album Van to Black.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
It's out today. It's out today, all right.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
It's way up, just like the tout like they Angela Jean,
like they Angela Jean.
Speaker 8 (21:26):
Man, she's spilling it all.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
This is yeaty way up. What's up?
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Is way up at Angela Yee, I'm here, koy is here?
Speaker 4 (21:36):
Mana's in the building.
Speaker 12 (21:37):
No time.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Let's talk about Scarlet and her new video for us.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
She's hot. It was a different look for her.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
You know, she was twerking and dancing, had the girls
dancing in the video, and people were saying she looked uncomfortable.
Speaker 4 (21:51):
Why would she do that? They thought she was being
forced to do that. Well, here's what she had to say.
Speaker 6 (21:55):
I know a few days ago, y'all saw me shaking
my booty on the internet.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
No one's to do anything.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Don' want you guys to like grow with me. Don't
put me in the blox.
Speaker 6 (22:04):
I'm always gonna give you out in the street.
Speaker 9 (22:06):
But I want to like tap into what's in me.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
And let it out.
Speaker 6 (22:13):
It's something in me that.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Just wants to come out.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
So she's like, look, this is what I wanted to do.
She's coming out of her shell and it was her
decision to do it. I mean we did.
Speaker 7 (22:24):
I mean as the people viewing did kind of think
like who told her to do this? Like who made
her do this? So to me, knowing that that wasn't
really on brand for her, I did kind of think
like maybe her label kind of made her do this.
Speaker 6 (22:35):
But then she said, no, this is what she wanted
to do.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
Yeah, what'd you think? Mano?
Speaker 2 (22:39):
It didn't work for me.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
Okay, I didn't like it because that's just me, right,
all right, that's just you.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
I really like Scarlet a lot, so I'm always rooting
for her, like to win. I want her to come
back up here just to talk about everything from when
I first had the opportunity to sit with her, to
see like where she's been now. But I do think
coming out of your shell is a real thing, like
doing things that defy the box that people have put
you in.
Speaker 7 (23:04):
And I think as a creator, you have to do
that right. You have to get all those things out
to see what really fits and what's really you?
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Okay, and now let's talk about young thugs trial right now.
Little what he is saying that he lied to police,
and here's what he had to say whatever.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
To convince them that I ain't doing that.
Speaker 11 (23:22):
It wasn't me.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
That's what my intention was when it got me on
this day and I was going to jail trying to
come up with something to tell them.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
That's why I can't tell you what I say.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
I was making it up.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
So he did decide to testify, and his time on
the stand over the past few days has been wild,
they said. He you know, if you look at some
of the videos, it looks like he was dragging out
some of the answers and just doing a lot.
Speaker 7 (23:46):
So you know, did he do no prep at all
before going in there? He just sat down and said,
I'm just going to reveal everything now.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
The right thing, okay, lie and understand.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Yeah, he's doing the right things.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
He said he lied to the police, not understand right.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
So what he's doing is actually helping though, So I mean,
why so Woodie for president?
Speaker 6 (24:08):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (24:09):
All right, well that is your yet.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
When we come back, it's a Friday, and there is
a ton of new music that I want to talk
about today. I saw Common didn't interview him. And Pete
Rock have announced they have a project coming out. Just
the other day, y'all were asking about Byron Mascia in
the room, and so we'll talk about his new song
that he has with Little Baby.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
But yeah, a lot going on.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
We already told you Leila Hathaway is joining us and
she has a new album out today, so let's get
into it.
Speaker 8 (24:35):
It's way up right, whether it's relationship for career advice,
Angela's dropping facts.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
This is as what's up by Angela? Yee, I'm here,
Coy is here, Okay, Mayo's here.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
What's the vibe?
Speaker 3 (24:49):
I already know what his advice is going to be.
The advice here it's always the same, have a threesome.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
I remember we got Brittany on the line. What's up, Brittany?
Speaker 9 (24:58):
Hey, how you doing?
Speaker 3 (25:00):
I'm good?
Speaker 4 (25:00):
What is your question today? For asking you?
Speaker 9 (25:03):
Oh?
Speaker 11 (25:03):
My question is I've been in a relationship with my
man for eight years and I am not married.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
And what's the reason does he say? What does he
say when you ask him about that?
Speaker 11 (25:16):
He wants to next year his careers together. He wants
to do more job, and I'm like, we're already good.
You asked me before to be his fiance.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
But where is the rain?
Speaker 3 (25:30):
You know, some guys do feel like they want to
wait till their financially stable to get married, and I
don't know when you're like sometimes you're always chasing like
more money, more this, more of that feeling like am
I ready to be able to take care of somebody?
Speaker 4 (25:44):
But eight years is a nice big Do you already
feel married?
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Yes?
Speaker 9 (25:48):
I already feel married.
Speaker 11 (25:49):
And that's another problem because we've known each other for
eight years because we're like college sweethearts, okay, and then
you know, we started really getting serious like five years.
Speaker 9 (26:00):
So I'm like, we're basically together.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
What is going on?
Speaker 4 (26:04):
So you guys live together, yes.
Speaker 9 (26:07):
And the house is nice. It's not like we're struggling.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Yeah, well, you know, I think, like you said, you
guys got serious five years ago, so technically, and how
long have you been living together?
Speaker 6 (26:20):
For three years?
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Okay for three years? So every couple of years there's
some progress. Right now, we're just waiting for that ring
to happen. What does he say when you ask him
about a timeline? Like, what does he see he.
Speaker 9 (26:33):
Says, go pick out the ring. I'm like, no, you're
supposed to pick it out.
Speaker 11 (26:37):
It's almost like, I don't want you to give me
flowers because I'm telling you to give me flowers.
Speaker 9 (26:41):
I want you to get me flowers because you're supposed to.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
Brittany. Now, if he's asking you for your input, you
should give it.
Speaker 7 (26:48):
Because before you get the flowers, it's like, what kind
of flowers do you like? Right, So this is the
same thing. I feel like he's asking you what kind
of ring do you like? And I feel like if
you pick out a few options for him, maybe he'll
be more inclined to go down there and purchase it.
Speaker 9 (27:02):
You're right, You're right, But I feel like he just
said it just to shut me up.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
Listen, Well, let's put that to the test.
Speaker 9 (27:08):
Let's put it to the test.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
Yeap.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
My advice is that you plan a trip to Vegas,
have one of those wild weekends and just get married,
get married drunk, and then go over to the Justice
of Pieces and just get married in Vegas.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Look, our producer is getting married next year. It is
a lot of planning and it is a lot of
money to have the wedding that you want to have,
you know, and that is pressure, So be patient with
him and be understanding of that, but also give him
a timeline and be like, look, I'm gonna go pick
this ring, but I'm gonna let you know right now
we need to start putting that money to the side
(27:42):
and getting ready for this wedding.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
And I do expect you to propose it sometime within
the next year.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Vegas, Vegas, Vegas.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
And then tell him to be like, look, I'm not
going to bring it up, but I'm just letting you
know sometime within the next year. I do, you know,
want to make sure that we are on the same page.
So I'm gonna leave you alone about it and you
to planning.
Speaker 11 (28:01):
Will do.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
All right?
Speaker 3 (28:04):
Well, good luck, Brittany, And at least you're having a
great relationship, so enjoy it.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
I don't want this to be something that's weighing over everything.
Speaker 6 (28:11):
No, it's not.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
We have fun.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Okakay, all right? Good proposed to him. No, I'm just kidding.
Don't do that.
Speaker 6 (28:17):
Hello, will yes, big time?
Speaker 4 (28:21):
All right, Thank you? Good luck, Hie, she's sound tight?
Speaker 2 (28:26):
All right?
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Well that was asked ye eight hundred two nine fifty
one fifty. If you couldn't get through. And when we
come back, Lailah Hathaway is in the building. She has
an album out to day, Banta Black. She has a
single out right now featuring MC Lights. It's called Mood
for You. It's way Up, It's.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Turn me up here we go up good.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
This is way up with Angela Yee.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
What's up is way up with Angela Yee. And we
are honored to have a legend in the building. Leilah
Hathaway is here with us. Thank you, good to be here,
Thank you for joining us.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
All right, well let's talk about what you have going
on right now.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
First of all, new project Fanton Black is out, and
so explain what banton Black is because that's my first
time even hearing that.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Yeah, Banta black is a name for a color which
is the blackest black. And I think some cars have
been made, some things have been made for Relton, he's
working on some stuff with that color. And I really
feel super black right now, and that's where that comes from.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
That's good.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
Super black is how we need to be feeling right
now because there are so much going on with politics,
with our rights getting rolled back, with books getting banned,
with education and danger with women's bodies in danger.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Yeah, it's a lot happening. And that's I mean. I
reflected on a lot of that in making the record,
and while it's not a protest record, all of those
themes are in there in some way or another.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
With Common and Rhapsody with Black. What a great combination,
isn't it wonderful?
Speaker 1 (29:50):
It's like an opus. We had a piece of music
and my producer, Philibodreau kept coming back and having more
of it, and I'd say, well, this part I'm imagining
I'm a phoenix, ros up all the ashes, and he'd
come back with something that fit that. And so to
get comment and rap on it was such a coup.
We're so happy with that.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Right now, I'm talking to Layla Hathaway. Her album Banta
Black is out today. You worked with my favorite artists
of all time. Who's that Prince?
Speaker 10 (30:18):
I did?
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Everybody has great Prince stories.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
My greatest print story is that they asked me, they
said what song would you like to sing with Prince?
So first of all, you have to slide down the
wall for a couple seconds. On that, I said, I'd
like to do Diamonds and pearls. Oh okay, and they said, oh, well,
he doesn't do that song anymore. Remember Prince went on
this thing. Ye didn't city he wouldn't he was it
(30:43):
was not playing the records you want to hear?
Speaker 11 (30:44):
Uh huh.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
And I said, okay, I'll choose sometimes it snows in April.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Under the stage. He ran past me. He said, take
this mic, just stand right here and I'll meet you
up there. I said, okay. So I took the mic
and I'm standing there and the thing, you know, it's
a toaster, but it's not the pop toaster, it's the
slow rise toaster. And when I got to the top
of that stage with the eighteen thousand people in there,
and my little dress was blowing in the wind, and
(31:10):
then suddenly, out of nowhere, he was right there. I've
wanted to lick him, but I didn't. I didn't want
to ruin it. So we sang sometimes it snows in April,
which is amazing. Yes, And I said to him, thank
you so much. This means so much to me. It
was the night before my birthday. Oh wow, I said,
thank you so much. I hope I get to work
with you again. He said, oh no, we're not finished,
(31:32):
and He took my hand and walked over to the
piano and we played Diamonds and Pearls and sang it.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
You got to do your song that he doesn't even do.
That's amazing, it is. It was incredible, all right, Layla
Hathaway is here. We have more with her when we
come back, and don't forget her album Band to Black
is available today. Make sure y'all stream that by that.
Make sure you guys go and see her on tour.
We got more with her on Way Up.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Yes, Hey, you want to know my name?
Speaker 8 (32:01):
Way up with Angela?
Speaker 2 (32:05):
What's up?
Speaker 5 (32:05):
His?
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Way up with Angela?
Speaker 7 (32:06):
Yee?
Speaker 3 (32:07):
I'm Angela yee. And the amazing, the legendary Leila Hathaway
is here. You're definitely not pigeonholed in any space because
you do jazz, you do R and B, you could
do hip hop, and you worked down to Pimp a
Butterfly and I remember seeing that you were in and
out of the studio pretty quick, but you managed to
be on a whole lot of that album.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
I went in there Terrasmark and called me. He said, hey,
can you come tonight. We're gonna we're gonna just try
to sing some extra parts on this song, and the
song Mama onto Pimp a Butterfly is actually a flip
of a song I wrote call on your Own. And
this is what happens. You go in they say we
need you for one thing, and then you go in
there and they say, well, wait, what if I play this?
(32:48):
What what will this inspire you to do? So you
end up on you know, Black or the Berry with Rhapsody,
and I ended up on Complexion with ThunderCats. So I'm
on a lot of that record.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
That's amazing.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
And you did that quick though, right Yeah, And so
you have a tour that you're starting also right in August,
so talk to me about that.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
I'm excited about the Van to Black tour. I'm really
excited to take this record out to people. I feel
like it's the best record I've ever made, and I've
never really felt like that before.
Speaker 7 (33:15):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
Yeah, I'm really excited.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
And you look great.
Speaker 12 (33:18):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
I just want to say just the music. But you
said the best record you've ever made, and you had
some classics. That's a huge statement.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
I think so too. I'm really excited about it. I
can't wait for people to really hear it and get
the feedback on it. It's a really good record. How
long did it take you to We started in twenty
I didn't start with a goal of like this is
my record. I just started writing and writing with people
over zoom. And then the record just grew and grew
and grew, and we just finished it, you know, a
(33:47):
couple months ago before we got it mixed and mastered.
Speaker 3 (33:49):
And to give to you guys right now, I'm talking
to Leila Hathaway. Her album ban to Black is out today.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
What do you do for fun?
Speaker 1 (33:57):
What do I do for fun?
Speaker 4 (33:58):
Besides music?
Speaker 1 (33:58):
I'm a gamer?
Speaker 4 (34:00):
Oh wow? Yeah, I play games, like wait, I wish
your game attag for people?
Speaker 1 (34:04):
Okay, my gamer tag. I don't even want to give
you my game attag because then't just see all the
boring games I'm playing. But right now I'm into VR gaming, okay,
and I'm playing the most what may seem like the
most boring game, but it is so exciting. It's powerwash VR.
It's so fun. Download if you can get the demo.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
Okay, it's so good.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
It's really fun. That's all I say.
Speaker 4 (34:27):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
I wanted to meet you.
Speaker 11 (34:29):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
It's a pleasure and make sure y'all check her out.
Is there anything that you want to make sure you
mentioned too that we do.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
It's Fanto Black, it's out Friday. They can reach me
on my socials. That's Leilah Hathaway.
Speaker 4 (34:38):
I've been there for ever and it's her. She checks her.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Damn, I sure do.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
And then she didn't give us her game attag. But
if you DM her, maybe should should play you power
just Powerwash.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
I do all the other stuff too, but I'm into
like Japanese RPG games, so no one wants to play
those with you.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
All right, I'm going to check that out. All right.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Well, you can watch that full interview on my YouTube
channel Way Up with You and when we come back,
you guys have the last word.
Speaker 8 (35:03):
Take up the phone tap to get your voice heard.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
What the word is? Is the last word on Way.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
Up with Angela?
Speaker 9 (35:10):
Ye?
Speaker 4 (35:11):
What's up?
Speaker 5 (35:11):
His?
Speaker 4 (35:11):
Way up with Angela Yee? I'm Angela Yee. Mainos here, Yes,
was here?
Speaker 11 (35:16):
What's up?
Speaker 7 (35:17):
Y'all?
Speaker 4 (35:17):
I enjoyed having you.
Speaker 6 (35:18):
It was so much fun.
Speaker 12 (35:19):
You know.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
I first met Koya in Orlando and she was doing
an event out there. What was the event that it
was a dinner? Which time to remember. But anyway, Yeah,
but I've also done your Risky.
Speaker 6 (35:30):
Dinner Conversation conversations.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
That's all about a podcast.
Speaker 7 (35:34):
No, it's a dinner conversation that we just go across
the United States educating different influencers about HIV and A
