Speaker 1 (00:03):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Its way up for Angela Yee and when an honor
to have Flow in the studio Renee Stella and Georgia welcome.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
I was just telling you. I was like, let me
wait to the mis go on.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
But we were talking before you guys came up, since
y'all were coming today about like groups and how we
feel like there's like a lack of groups and people
feel like flow is it right now?
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Kind of save the day?
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Oh that's nice?
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, And I was like even trying to name some
because I know you guys have been nominated for a
bet Award in that category and I was like, okay,
it was I think it was like Quavo and Takeoff
and then it was who else was nominated? Maybe yeah right,
and I'm like twenty one Savage and Draca group this time?
Speaker 1 (00:45):
No before?
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
We have the same problem in England as well, like
you know when like two rappers come together and they
make a project and then it's like best group.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Right, we're here, like, OHI god, did you guys all
know that you always wanted to be part of a group,
because I know it was an audition process for you
to come together, but was it always or did you think, okay,
we're going to be solo artists first, or like, tell
me how this all happened.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
I definitely like loved groups, but never thought I would
be in a group. But when the opportunity came along,
it made a lot of sense. And then I think
what really sold it is Georgia and Stella. I feel
like if it was any other girls, I might have
been like maybe risky.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Yeah, So tell me what that audition process was, even
like just for people who maybe don't even know how
Flow came together, it was very chill.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
It was nothing like what I think people perceive, like
the grueling putting together a girl group boot camp. It
wasn't like that. It was just the person that put
us together contacted us and a bunch of different girls
like individually, and was like, this is what I'm trying
to do. Do you want to come down for an audition?
And the initial audition was actually like just solo by
(01:57):
ourselves and just sang a song, had a chat, very chill,
and then actually as I was leaving that audition, I
saw Renee in the lobby of the building and I
was like, oh my god, Like we were like, what are.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
You here for you here, the same thing for this
girl group. My god, we could be in a group
together because.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
This was the first time we'd met each other in
real life, but we followed each other on Instagram.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
That's nice, okay.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
And then the next the next like step, I was
put in a group with Stella and two other girls,
so Renee nowhere to be seen. But Renee had actually
been put in a group with two other girls as well,
so there was like different kind of pairings happening at
the same time. But this was then the first time
(02:38):
I'd met Stellar in real life, who I also had
followed on social media.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
I love there. Yeah, girls girl already exactly.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Having fans of each other.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
I remember seeing your videos on the next floor.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah alright, so go ahead.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah. And then like I was having conversations with the
persons putting us together, I was like, oh, like love Stellar,
two other girls, didn't connect, didn't know them, didn't like
we weren't really on the same page as far as
taste goes. Likenceella, we knew the same songs, and like
you know, we both had love for R and B.
So it just instantly we gravitated towards each other. And
(03:23):
then yeah, and I was like, oh, well, like Renee,
I met Renee on like the first audition, Like what's
she up to? I feel like every time I say
this in my head, I'm painting a picture like I
put float.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
I mean, but.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Because you know who you guys click with, and you're clicked.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
With each other exactly, and then we were putting a
group together, just us three, and then since then it's
been nothing.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Else that's perfect.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah, and so and I know inspiration whereas you said,
you guys are so we're fans of like the same
kind of music too. So what was it like when
your first knew that it was going to be okay,
this is flow? Like, tell me after that what their
process was like when your first went in the studio
or like, what's the first thing you guys did together.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
I think first we probably hung out right like spoke
about what we love to do, like the music that
we loved, and then we'll be in the studio and
it was just fun, like we were just making songs.
Some of them were really bad. It was like a
lot of our first songs were actually oh yeah that
our first was really bad.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
They can start what because it's a group that you
have to get into that.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
No it is and like there's there's new, there's nuances
to it, Like we didn't know that we all had
to do it. I'd lib track and it was going
to be really awkward.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
I was doing. But it wasn't you that we were laughing.
It was a producer.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
It was just kind of freestyle.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Yeah, when you go over and you know like nineties
ad libs, you know, just like the extras on the song.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Okay, yeah, No, it was a producer.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
That was funny.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
We got the giggles.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
But a lot of the songs we made at the
start were actually good.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Okay, I think you.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Can't gas something anybody could relate to when it's like
you guys the girl, where did that stem from?
Speaker 5 (05:16):
We wanted to make a breakup song that was happy,
you know, very happy.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
You know sometimes it's a celebration.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
So we we didn't really know any so we were like,
let's make one.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Did you have any happy breakups ever in your lives?
Speaker 5 (05:33):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Yeah, I mean you can't look back on it happily,
Like you can look back and be like, yeah, it
was meant to not exactly happy for sure. It's always
for the best. Everything happens for a reason.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Like when they tell me a good breakup story, that you.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Have a good break up story.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
I wouldn't.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
I feel like it's all about perspective because when the
word break up means that two people have separated, it,
you know it's never great. But I put myself first,
and I think that is a success.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yes, when you're like, Okay, I gotta do what I
gotta do. Yeah, what about you, Stella, when you came
into the group where you in a relationship?
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Are you a relationship type of girl?
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (06:19):
I do you know what?
Speaker 5 (06:20):
In my head, I'm not, but I am. I'm in like.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Back, Yes, that is a relationship.
Speaker 5 (06:26):
I am a.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Relationship girl like I do love it. I love it.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
I am yeah, I am.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Yeah, yes, I have a relationship.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Now, Georgia, if I had to catch the bag because
I'm trying to read each of you as we're sitting
here having conversations, what type of girl would you say
you are when it comes to relationships?
Speaker 4 (06:49):
I am actually married.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Not officially, okay, not officially.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Yet, but I am in a long committed relationship. Okay,
also a relationship, girlie, maybe not.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
As many, but that's why everybody comes together great because anybody.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
Operates, it's not more than one hand.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
That's funny.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
I'm in my last relationship, guys, now that's it.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
And that we support.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Don't let how long has it been for you?
Speaker 4 (07:29):
Five years years?
Speaker 1 (07:30):
So that was even but like the early stages.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Yeah, so when I first got in the group, I
was with someone else, and then literally like very soon,
very shortly after, like a couple of months after like
being with the girls, that ended. And that was actually
around the time that Cardboard Books came out because we
had written like sad. I was crying in the sessions
with the early sessions with EM and E came and
(07:55):
we were getting like the sad stuff out and then
we were like, thank god, that enough. And then literally
there was a turning point. It was like cool and then.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Get you through it. So, how did you meet your fiance?
Has been?
Speaker 4 (08:14):
I met him on Instagram?
Speaker 1 (08:15):
Okay, Instagram is working for you.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
I know, we're like very pro social media right now,
but yeah, I know. He just liked a couple of
my pictures and went on and I liked a couple
of weeks and then he slid into my d ms
and it was the classic actually yeah, snapchat. Oh well
snapchat was an easier way of communicating to Okay, and
(08:44):
then our first day, our first date was actually a.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Dog walk, simple things.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Yeah, we're a dog because I had a dog and
he had a dog. And they did not get on
at all. They did not get on at all. But yeah,
and then we didn't even kiss after our first date.
He was like, it was weird. He dropped me off
at the train and I was like ready.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
With our dogs.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
It was just like when the train, so you took
the train to go.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Yeah, I took the train with the dog.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Okay, now that's a real effort.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
No, it was.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
It's a proper journey because I didn't live in London.
I lived outside of London, so I had to make
an effort and it was worth it.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Okay, and Renee, what about you?
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Like when it comes to where you're at right now?
Speaker 4 (09:33):
No one addressing the camera. I think for a second,
I mean I think I'm single and I'm loving it. Okay,
twenty two year old girl there for a year, trying
to build myself.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Okay, well listen, I feel and are you dating? They're like,
do you go out a lot or how does somebody
get your attention, they just have to try.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
An effort has to be made something different.
Speaker 4 (10:02):
I feel like where I'm at right now, it's not
going to be easy to lock me down.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Okay, it's definitely not.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
I'm very comfortable.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Happening right now.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Yeah, looked and busy and you're still young, so exactly,
it's a good time and you're with your girls, and
sometimes that is what you really need to like help,
you know, support that. But I love that you guys
support each other and whatever stages that you're in, and
I do feel like this does help with the music. Now,
I want to talk about y'all being tapped to go
on to Ka Lani before too.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
What was that like and where were you when you
heard that news.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
I was in Baker Streets, yes, yes, because I think
Eli called me or manager called me, and I just
like jumped up and down to confirm. I don't know where.
Speaker 5 (10:51):
I don't know where it was, but I know I
was very excited. It was an amazing tool. It was
like the best for us big tour ever we could
have heard. She's so nice, her team's amazing. It was
just so fun.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
It was something that you would say you learned from
that because, like you said, it was your first big
tour and so that is definitely like a crash.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Course.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
An interesting thing that I think we don't think about
is that if you like, don't how do I need
to work this like patience, because when before the tour
we were offered a different support and we turned it
down because it didn't fit right, and then we were like, well,
(11:34):
I was like kind of like, oh, we shouldn't have
done that. We should have gone. We should have gone
even though it wasn't right, and then the opportunity of
kay Larney came along. So I think trust exactly, you.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Got to make those decisions.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
It makes me think about Arie Lennox opening for Rad
Waver on tour and she felt like, you know, and
I love Ari Lennox as an artist, but maybe that's
not the best pairing, like as far as who you're
going to be represented on side, you know, I want
to talk about Cynthia or Riva also opening up the album,
because that was amazing just even when she said her voice,
how she spoke, Oh how did.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
That come about?
Speaker 2 (12:11):
And then seeing everything that she's been getting with Wicked
right now, like you couldn't even have predicted all that.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Literally, the stars definitely aligned for all of us. But
we obviously had an intro for our album and we
knew that we wanted to be introduced by somebody that
is black and British, that was female and female. That
was really important to us. So we were just like
who who who?
Speaker 3 (12:37):
She was literally there the whole time.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
It's a really long time to like be like, oh
my gosh, Cynthia. But once we had that realization, we
like reached out immediately and she was like, I'd love
to do it. She did it so quickly while she
was a little press tour, and then we got on
a zoom call with her and she was so sweet.
She was asking us if we loved it, and we
were like this, puff, that's perfect.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Did you guys see Wicked film is just so just
like it's so deep, so powerful.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
It's just amazing that both of them are incredible everyone
and it was incredible.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
And then ourselves, I want to talk about the unlacked
version of the album, and so it talk to me
about their process and you had Chloe and Haley on there.
I saw their job reached out on Instagram for that.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
We were just like we were like, let's just do
it because we're usually you know, we don't want to
reach out because kind of because of like the fear
of rejection. Yes, and this was like the the first
time we shot our short and really reward really scored.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
That was like a penalty shoe out. So yeah, they
were also so quick with it as well. I'm just
so professional and so sweet.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Yeah, when did you realize that y'all were stars? Like,
when did you realize this flow thing is really working?
Speaker 5 (14:07):
I think as soon as we were put to Yeah,
as soon as we did that little mash up. The
first time we sang together. It was so nice because
we all love the same songs we did Insecure Judsmine
Sullivan mixed with Thinking About You Ocean and it was great.
It was.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Great for the moment. It was great Rangers in young Girls.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
I think it was really cute.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
And how is it also becoming you know, sometimes people
feel like it's hard to break in the United States, right,
like being superstars back home, but then also in the
United States coming here, you know, winning awards, getting the accolades,
becoming huge stars here. How was that transition because people
feel like, you know, this is like not the easiest
market to break in.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
I mean it was quite easy. I feel like because
we're a girl group, we're not a solo artist, so
that's whole from market. And I feel like maybe artists,
the artist market is oversaturated, so when there's just like
one girl group in front of her face, everyone like
just runs over. But most majority of our fans are
from the US, so we've always felt a bigger appreciation here.
(15:16):
And also like they love R and B music out here,
so it just made a lot of sense and we
haven't really struggled. But the one thing we do have
to do is come here and spend time here and
invest and go and see everybody because it's so big.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Yeah. Yeah, we're all over the place.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Oh yeah, and your mom rene an Olympics start. No,
that's much your okay, Yeah, so tell me about that,
like growing up with a mom like that, that's.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Did you go to the Olympics?
Speaker 4 (15:44):
And yes, I did go to the twenty twelve Olympics
in London. It's like why but it was very cute.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
It's very cute.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
It's very cute.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
It's very cute.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
It was very cute, it was very experienced. I think
she really instilled work ethic into me. M Actually no,
I don't know if she did. Me and are actually
both terrible procrastinators. But it was like what she did
say was whatever you want to do as your career.
(16:16):
It didn't have to be athletics. I'm sure she would
have loved me to be an athlete. I think she
wanted me to be a tennis player. But whatever it was,
I just had to put all of my dedication and
heart and soul into it if I wanted to do it.
So that's why she was like, she absolutely loves the
idea of me being a singer. She obviously loves my voice. Whatever.
(16:39):
She loves flow because she's flows biggest. It's scary, but yeah,
as long as I work hard the thing I've picked,
she's happy.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Okay, do they get involved like parents with management and
all of that, because when you have you know, you
guys are a young, you know, female group, and so.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
They're ready to Yeah, they're definitely like they care a lot,
you know, and when there's been issues, they've been very
passionate about it and if we need help, but they're
on the enjoyment side.
Speaker 6 (17:09):
Now, okay, good, but we know if we need it No,
I think we shield them also for a lot of
the hardships that we face because they would just go crazy,
worry and you know, want to be involved.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
But yeah, in the beginning because obviously we got together
quite young. Renee was seventeen when we first signed our deal,
so they had to be kind of involved in the beginning,
they should, Yeah, And I remember like when their group
chat would pop off when they were like discussing said issue. Yeah,
but now like we're older, they want to they want
(17:44):
it to be our thing. Yeah. Quite nice, but they're
always there we need them. No, it is quite nice.
Like we're young and we're learning about business, and like
I can just see them letting us like make our
own mistakes and obviously we'll always bounce back and if
it's really bad, they'll help us. It's nice having the
freedom to be able to make those decisions yourself. And
(18:05):
I think they love just being fans love.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
I think they love it that way.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
They'd be like that's nice.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Yeah, No, Jorjia, you said the horror ships, like what
would you say, have been some of the hardships just
for people because the music business we are now is
a tough to have business to be in.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
I definitely don't think that we have it half as
bad as other people out there, Like we hit horror
stories and we definitely don't have horror stories. But you know,
working with especially when it's your like first time in
the industry that you're unfamiliar with, like you definitely just
(18:40):
the people full stop, people like you don't know people exactly.
So navigating that has definitely been difficult at times, and
we're finding it easier as we get older and have
more experience. But the one thing that has just remain
(19:00):
constant is our relationship with each other. Like we're like,
we will fight everyone else, but we won't fight each other.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
That's great, which is I'd.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
Much rather have it that way than the other way around.
Oh my god, imagine.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
I know that's great because the truth is that there's
going to be times when you're in a group that
everybody is not in agreement on everything. Do you guys
have rules for when maybe there's like, okay, even putting
together you know, your debut album, because I know you
had the EPs before that, but putting that together, like
deciding what sounds are gonna make it, deciding what order
is going to be in I don't like this. I
(19:36):
like that, like, how do you guys decide to come together,
because sometimes you have to also discuss how do we
approach things when we're not in agreement.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
We're very lucky that we often agree like ninety yeah,
and if we don't, it's never over like a deep thing,
but we just we just speak, ye, do you know
what I mean, like immunikate. Yeah, and then you'll be like, oh, yeah,
I didn't think of it like that, or if it's
something small, it's like, okay, let's take a vote.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
You know, we've never had to like pull out the
the rule book, like what do we do when we're
face exactly? We didn't even have a bad agree yeah,
he just.
Speaker 5 (20:20):
So.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
And with the music the same.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
Really, Obviously we might have different favorites or like different
things about different songs.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
But we we we've done it now.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Obviously it was my favorite song after the album's Stella.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
Today Today, Today, I'm going to get to I'm Gonna
move Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
They did a body roll to it, and you have Glorilla,
who is one of the best artists. It's like you
guys are also kind of predicting what's about to happen
because Glorilla is on the album in My Bag and
I love that song, and that is definitely like an
empowering song, you know, for everybody to feel like they're
in their bag and seeing that Glerrilla people are talking
(21:04):
about she's like the best literally yeah, not even just
woman rapper, but people everybody likes it, you know, they
always had to put it in.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
She's so sweet, lovely girl.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Yeah, so how did you guys get her on that song?
Was that another DM or no?
Speaker 5 (21:17):
That was that was the industry way, Yeah, this one,
but that's okay, Yeah, that's fine and we we we
love her and we had a really good time at
the video, so it was it ended up not just
being like an industry think, like the actually got on
with her. She worked really well with us, so yeah,
it was good.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
And then Anna Anna is their new single that you guys, so,
how do you decide what's the single?
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Like, you guys, we didn't decide this.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
What people decided.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
The people decided.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
The people decided, and then the label heard that and
they were like, let's go. So here we are. But
I mean, listen, we love We'd be happy if any
song on the album became a single was our next single,
because that was like the whole point. You know, every
song needs to be worthy as a single, so if
(22:05):
it's on and on, we can go on and on.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Yes, And the fans were really waiting for this, right
because they were like, okay, they felt like it took
a while.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Yes, it did take a while.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
It did take a while us, but I would too,
that's a good thing.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
We came with the tracks. We were we weren't going
to put out like an eight ten song album, like
we wanted it to be lengthy, yes, quality.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
How patient were you guys with this, because I know
sometimes in the artist you're like, come on, let's come
on with it.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
We were, actually we were. We were ready to have
some more time.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
Yeah, okay, but no, we knew that, we knew the
standard we wanted it to be up and it just
took that much time and that's fine. And I think
