Stan Norfleet and Chris Gordy of Next Up break down the possibility of Minnesota Vikings pass rusher Danielle Hunter signing with the Houston Texans when he becomes a free agent. The four-time Pro Bowler, who grew up in Katy and attended Morton Ranch High School, might look to move back home and booster the defensive line alongside Will Anderson Jr. Houston Chronicle writer Jonathan Alexander joins to analyze the Texans free agent list before the legal tampering period begins on March 11. Tight end Jonnu Smith has agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with the Miami Dolphins. Over the past three seasons, Smith led the league in yards-after-the-catch per reception at the tight end position. The Texans re-signed Dalton Schultz to a three-year, $36 million contract with $23.5 million fully guaranteed. Did the Texans overpay Schultz? Cougars men's basketball completed a come-from-behind 67-59 victory over UCF Knights on Wednesday to clinch a share of the regular-season Big 12 title. Weather. It's interesting, so we'llsee rodeo continues over the weekend as
well. Coog's in action. We'vegot uh, let's see Coogs in action
on Saturday. We've got rockets tonightup in email u Dooka's hometown of Portland

(01:11):
might get to that as well.Astros continue spring training action today. What
time are they getting going, Gord, and let me get this twelve or
five first pitch. You can hearit live, you know on Sports Talk
seven ninety Yep, all right. As we continue to look at the Texans
build out their roster, there willbe more free agent talk today. We
will focus on the Texans, butwe will also go around the rest of

(01:34):
the NFL as signings and stories directlyor indirectly impact the Houston Texas. Also,
some people pissed off. Let mego back to Astros. Some people
are pissed off about how we maybe consuming the Astros over the course of
this upcoming season for a few games. We'll get to that as well.

(01:55):
Anything from you going it before Iget going, because I have a thought
right off the rip about a particularposition over there at the Texans, and
I think this is pretty bleep andinteresting. Anything from before we get gone.
Yeah, I'm ready to break down. Coymi fairbarn in that contract.
Yeah, I'm good on that.Appreciate welcome back Fairbaron, Cam Johnson and
Henry your Beerz. John Weeks isalready signed, so from a specialist standpoint,

(02:16):
I think we're covered there all right. So had a good text exchange
with a member of the media, one of our brethren, Gordon, and
Yeah, yesterday we played the SoundBitefrom Djbnemy of ESPN dot Com comes the
Texans. He was on with theA team earlier this week, and he

(02:38):
just essentially says, hey, theybetter think about re signing Nico sooner than
later because the number is going togo up. He says, there's no
way Nico want repeat that performance. So I said, anytime I bring somebody's
name up on the air, Gordy, I try and give them a heads
up, just so you know you'renot doing something else. You're in a
meeting, and people are trying tobe messy, oh talking about you.

(03:00):
Nah, show the respect to mybrethren even when I disagree. Hey,
man, just want you to knowbrought your name up. Here was the
context. So then the conversation continue. So we said, how do you
feel about Nico? We went backand forth. How do you feel about
Tank? Went back and forth, and then I said, just so I'm
clear, I feel the same wayabout Johnathan Grenard. And given that it

(03:22):
is mock draft season, Gordon. There is a recent mock that I'm trying
to locate now. Uh huh.Pro Football Focus they do, like how
do they call it? They classifylike the best free agents that match up
with a new team. Would youlike to take a stab at what defender

(03:43):
Pro Football focuses matches with Houston. So you said mock draft, This is
a I mean not, this isfree agency prediction, gotcha? All right?
I'm sorry, Get my right,Lene, I mean I was thinking
in that drusher right now, You'rein the right wheelhouse. And actually somebody
that's near and dear to your heart, any particular guy that comes to mind,
Wow, there's a Houstonian. Whatto Katie High, Yeah, let's

(04:05):
talk about him. The deal hunter. Yeah, the nil Hunter of the
Minnesota Vikings, twenty nine years old, four time Pro Bowler. This is
the write up from Pro Football Focus, and we're going to back our way
into johnthan Garnaud. Basically, theysaid Dimico worked miracles last year with the
Texans defense. They made it respectable. Will Anderson Junior dere extingly or clearly

(04:30):
the future pillars of that deal overthere, Grenard maybe depart again free agency,
leaving a void at defensive end.The Texans have plenty of cap space
to go do what they want todo. D Nil Hunter finished the regular
season with the ninth most pressures inthe NFL and would create a fearsome tandem
with Will Anderson Jr. A newname has entered the chat for stand Northley

(04:54):
as a free agent target. Yeah, we've talked about him before. He
brought his name up, but nowI took a deeper dive. Yeah,
it's just the problem is he's goingto be a high ticket item and so
are you willing to go there? And again, I just this is new
territory for Nick Cassario. He's neverdone that. So you know, if
they were to go out and signone of the top free agents at a
position, that would be a newmove. But you know, it's a

(05:16):
new age for the Texans. Wewant to build around CJ. Stroud and
strike while the iron is hot.You know, Pros and Concer with Denil
Hunter. Pros been one of thebest sack artists since he's gotten the NFL.
It's so weird because I think backto his years at LSU and he
didn't have many sacks at LSU.It was so weird. He gets to
the NFL, becomes this big sackartist and it's like, you know,

(05:40):
for a third round pick, theguy has like he's hit his stride.
A lot of guys hit their stridein college. This guy waited till the
pros to hit his stride and canreach his BAX capability. But five the
last seven years he's hit double digitsacks. It's been relatively healthy. Twenty
twenty one is the only season thathe's you know, missed half the year.
Well, twenty two season as well. Those are the two areas of

(06:01):
concern. He had a neck injuryin one of those years, and he
had a pick injury in another, but he played in all seventeen games at
twenty two was twenty and twenty twenty, twenty twenty, and twenty twenty one.
He played only seven games in seasons, but every other year other year's
played almost every every game coming offyou know, his best sacks season yet

(06:23):
as a pro sixty and a halfsacks. He just turned twenty nine in
the middle of last season, sohe'll turn thirty in the middle of this
upcoming season, and so he's alittle bit older. John Grenard is twenty
six, so he's three years olderthan than Grenard. But you know,
it just depends on what you thinkof the player. He had four forced
fumbles last year as well, sohe's just he's a disruptor, and I'd

(06:45):
love to have a disruptor opposite willAnderson. But again, here's where you
got to put your business hat onand go, what's what's a smart dollar
figure and years on a guy likethis, you know, and obviously you're
gonna you don't want to get outbid. Give me your thoughts on because
CBS Sports has is gonna be oneof my things. I was going to
as well. So you and Idiffer in philosophy. I'm conscious of the

(07:11):
numbers, but I'm also trying towin games, So like, give me
the better player. Now, I'mnot gonna go crazy and whoa, I'm
gonna just go call every top threeagent at every position. He's definitely a
better player than Yeah, this isa he's not Bosa, he's not you
know, Khalil mckett his prime,he's not tj Y, but he's at

(07:33):
the bottom of Tier one, topof tier two. Danil Hunter, he
just happens to be from Kadie HighSchool. All right. He's also taller,
longer, armed, and heavier thanboth Will Anderson Jr. And Jonathan
Grenard. He's not. He's he'sas explosive as Grenard, even though he's

(07:58):
a few years older. But he'sjust an overall better player. So when
I look at a guy, andagain we talk so much about what they
did in San Francisco having Bosa andthen trying to find a different body type
opposite Bosa. Ebucam played that rolefor a couple of seasons there in San
fran Samson evercamp. All right,so I love the idea of having Danil

(08:18):
Hunter opposite of Will Anderson Junr. And you bring up cost. According to
spotrack, Jonathan Gernaud is expected tocome in at about thirteen and a half
million a year. Now. Itis a robust free agent edge market.
Can he get more than that?Is he willing to take less than that?
They have Danil Hunter coming in atlike twenty two and a half million

(08:41):
per Will Danil Hunter do a shorterterm deal? We're talking like three years,
guaranteeing two of those three to behere in Houston play for Domico and
trying to get in the AFC Championshipgame. I don't know. That's for
Caserio to find out. But ifyou're asking me the difference in thirteen and

(09:03):
a half, I probably think Grenaudcan get a little bit more than that.
So let's call it Grenaud at fifteenversus Daniel at twenty. I'm talking
myself into d nil for the fivemillion dollar difference. I can totally be
okay with that. For the forthe sake of accuracy, I say he's
from Katie. He went to MortonRanch out there, so for for accuracy,

(09:26):
had people correcting us on that.Okay, fine, I'll get on
my nerves with that stuff, likethe man is from down over high school?
Fine calling the high school. Yeah. The CBS Sports article kind of
says everything we said. The Texansalready boast rgning deep defensive rookie dear will
Anderson. So why would why youknow, why would they be or why
would they be a logical destination foran expensive edge rusher. For one,
Andrews is kind of part John granartists on track to hit the market,

(09:50):
leaving Houston with a potentially serious void. On the other side, Tamiko Ryans
knows all too well the value ofdeploying two legit quarterback chasers from this time
with the forty nine ers their prediction, they said, no doubt the Vikings
are gonna make an effort to retainDaniel Hunter. I've read a couple articles
from Minnesota that said they cannot lethim walk, they have to bring him
back. They said the Rams couldbe in the mix, the Lions,

(10:13):
the Bucks, the Bears, butultimately CBS's prediction is the Chicago Bears.
And you said, you know dollarvalue. They predict a three year,
sixty seven and a half million dollardeal that will pay him twenty two and
a half million. That's where Igot the number from the high ticket item.
I'm saying, can we get himto take a couple million, million
and a half less to come hereversus you're not winning a damn thing in

(10:35):
Chicago. He knows here in Houstonat home, he's got a chance to
be competitive and he's not working alone. He knows Derek Stingley's back there.
He will likely have seen what ChristianHarris did the second half of the season.
He know will Anderson Junr is overthere. I gotta think the veteran
that he is, he will haveseen elite Collins work knowing that Meliite Collins

(10:56):
will be alongside on that defensive front. So what if Caleb Williams is the
next CJ. Stroud though, youtrusted maker. I know it's not just
about the quarterback. It's about theculture. Who's who got the job,
who's up there ebra Flus, You'retrusting ebra Flues versus Demico Ryans culture.
I'm just saying, you said, why would he sign in Chicago? They

(11:18):
stink and they have the number onepick, and that sounds like they're gonna
go with Caleb Williams and start thiswhole thing over. And I'm with you.
I mean, the Rams would besaxy agat to play next to Aaron
Donald. But you're right, arethey? I mean of all the teams
on that list, you know, the Bucks are you know, figured to
be a playoff team again. Butof all the teams on that list from

(11:39):
CBS Sports, yeah, it wouldseem the Texans are the most well maybe
the Lions too. Lions and Texanswould be the most sexy in terms of
how far can these two teams go? Next year when you're twenty nine,
you're going to start the season atthirty He understands Danil Hunter if he's represented
properly, which I believe him tobe. I don't know whose agency is
right off the top, but he'sthinking, all right, this is the

(12:03):
last real contract and I want toactually win something. Who gives me the
best chance to do both in acool last area that I'm comfortable with and
I want to live. Chicago's acool area. You wanna freeze your ass
off for two months? Not yourboy, I'm good on that. So
it's just it's something that I sawand I actually agree with the thought.

(12:26):
Houston chime in as we go tobreak seven one three, two one two
five seven ninety. Would you bewilling to pay a hometown productive product like
d Neil Hunter bringing him to Houstonfrom Minnesota? A man that has been
to the Pro Bowl for the lastfive years, for the last six years,
playing in every game for those sixyears. Who's gonna turn thirty during

(12:52):
the twenty four season, even ifhe was more expensive than homegrown Jonathan Grenard.
We continue talking Texas roster. Thereare other signings that questions, including
a particular offensive person got a newdeal. Sports Talk seven ninety Next up

(13:16):
free iHeartRadio apps. Welcome back intothe program here on your home for Houston
Sports. Name of the show isnext up, Open up the show Looking
at as free agency is right aroundthe corner. A few days away from
NFL free agency and we're all hittingrefreshed to see if Casarrio is going to
re sign some of their own beforeit's open to the league. That's going

(13:41):
to be eleven am. So we'llbe on the air. Goard a Monday
morning, God Willem. When freeagency officially begins, you can't the non
what they call it, we callit the non non tampering pier. There
you go. But why then, why is there some reports coming out that
like guys are signing deals, areor like agreeing to sign deals. I

(14:05):
thought that was the whole idea ofhaving the legal tampering period. Well,
some people are going to start doingthat. You can resign what your the
team you just played for, rightthat, I can't sign with a new
team. I thought somebody that signedwith a new team. If we're going
to go there right now, it'sthe tight end situation tight end, John
new Smith go to Miami. Isagreed that he's going to join Miami.

(14:26):
How does that work? Though wehaven't agreed, we haven't gotten to the
legal tampering period. And I'm surethere'll be a statement from the nfl PA
or somebody saying, hey, althoughthe greed, although the agreement is not
official until Wednesday at three pm localtime, this is essentially the content.

(14:46):
So how does that work? Idon't know. Is that agents during their
deal in posturing? But I'm gladyou brought John new Smith up. Oh
wait, here we go, I'vegot it ahead, what you got?
Well? This okay? Although thelegal tampering period free see officially begins at
noon on Monday, Smith was ableto negotiate before that time because he was
released the soft season as opposed tobecoming a free agency. So he got

(15:11):
released since he wasn't on the rosterin week eighteen. Yeah, if you
got released, that makes sense thisoff season as opposed to just becoming a
free agent. You can talk toanybody you want right now, all right,
So I'm gonna use John new Smithand he's going to Miami to join
a very explosive offense, a manthat Demiko Ryans knows well and Mike McDaniels
and we had a lot of tightend conversation. We got into it yesterday

(15:33):
with the comments that Dalton Schultz hadto say pertaining to his time in Dallas
and everybody overreacting across the country tothe zoo comment, which I just had
to turn the TV off in theradio off yesterday, like people just pissing
me off with the commentary. However, Johonald Smith is going to Miami at
five million dollars a year. It'sa two year, ten million dollars deal,

(15:54):
so that's five million per This morningit is announce Hunter Henry will be
returning to New England three year dealtwenty seven million base, so that's nine
million per. I remind you wejust paid Dalton Schultz three years, thirty
six million. That's twelve million perSo the question I posed to the people,

(16:18):
would you rather have Schultz at thetwelve million he signed for or would
you rather have Domico and Cassario waitedto free agency and grabbed the John Newsmith
at five million per ish or aHunter Henry at nine million ish. There's
a big difference in five, nineand twelve Gord. It Dick Casserio jumped

(16:40):
the gun a little bit. No, the correct answer is you sign whoever
the help make CJ. Stroud happy, and keeping Dalton Schultz is what keeps
c J. Stroud happy. Sothat's that's the correct answer. Crazy thing,
So look at Johnny Smith last yearin Miami. He played two more
games than Dalton Schultz. He hadfifty catches for five or eighty two yards.

(17:02):
Dalton Schultz played in just fifteen assupposed to seventeen. It had nine
more catches. And about it,we'll call fifty yards more. So again,
Dalton Schultz more productive. Dalton Schultzplaying all seventeen games, he would
have been probably top fifteen in theleague receiving. JONU Smith is making two

(17:23):
and a half less, two anda half times less money. Hey should.
He's not as good as Dalton Schultz, But at what the value?
So you the one that always talkingabout the numbers and the margins, like,
is John Smith at that number worthbringing to Houston? Now it's hindsight,
but it's just I've seen some folkson social media going, well,

(17:44):
damn, did we did we shootthe gun? Or what was about?
What's the terminology? Can't give myturnout today. Did we overshoot by bringing
in Schultz back? When you lookat the discrepancy in dollar Now I heard
everything. You just outline the termsof John new Smith's production this past season.
Mina Kimes are a four letter network. You see on NFL Live.

(18:07):
She had a comment about John newSmith and it continued to put the idea
in my head. Did we getit right? As prolific as this passing
attack for the Dolphins has been, they've gotten very little production out of the
tight end position. Out of allteams last year, dead last and yards
after the catch throwing through tight ends, John new Smith over the last three

(18:29):
years ranks first amongst all tight ends. It's not George Kittle Nan Joku,
It's John hu Smith and yards afterthe catch per reception. This gives to
an outlet when defense is played toohigh to try to stop Tyreek Hill and
Jalen Waddle. It's a component that'sbeen missing in their offense. Makes them
more multiple. So I really likethis signing. Mina Kimes says, John
news Smith, not George Kittle, not Travis Kelsey, John new Smith,

(18:55):
yawds after the catch? What doesthe Miko Ryans Bobby's luck offense want to
do. It's predicated on yards afterthe catch. I ask you again,
I don't care about any Five milliondollars a year is what he's going to
an AFC competitor. What did Isay, do CJ Stroud like John Hue
Smith? I don't know that.I'm just telling you we don't know.

(19:18):
CJ already has chemistry of Dalton. They already know the playbook together. I
ain't going bargain. Been to savea couple of bucks here, a couple
of bucks two and a half times. I got seventy million caps base I
don't need to be pining to keepone of my guys. Smith is at
five million a year. Smith,Let's just let's get out there. His
best year he had was this pastyear over five hundy yards. Every other

(19:41):
year he's been the damn league,he's had under five hundred yards receiving me.
He's aye older than Dalton shoulders. She has told you yaws after the
catch. He's number one in theleague at tight ends because he's running in
the damn with Tyreek Hill and JaylenWattle running round but without the hand gotten
there yet nobody, nobody cares abouthim. He ain't got the hell was

(20:03):
defending anybody in Atlanta with the weaponsthey got they have. That dude was
playing everybody. They were double teamof coalpits. So I guess it was
open. JOHNHU Smith. You aresuch a hater that it was like me
to me, I might open.Let me give you another nugget that I
saw courtesy of our next gen stats. Most twenty plus miles per hour touches

(20:25):
tiny end position since twenty eighteen.Number one, tied with Evan Ingram,
John U. Smith in more thanDarren Waller, more than George Kittle,
more than Noah Fan. This iswho Miami Dolphins with that explosive offense.
They're getting him for five million bucks. Now I agree with you. I
would have brought Shawtz back to evenat the twelve million. I told y'all

(20:48):
yesterday some of that twelve million perfor shortz dadda. Boy. You trusted
in us when nobody else. DidYou chose us before we had CJ.
Stroud, before you saw Demiko coachin a game. So yeah, we'll
give you a little dot of boy. Well go look at Jonnaspith's catches too.
The dude had his second year. His first year Tennessee at eighteen catches,
second year, twenty, third yearthirty five, forty one, twenty

(21:12):
eight, twenty seven. Look he'saveraging less than thirty catches a year.
Look at Dalton Schultz catches sixty three, seventy eight, fifty seven to fifty
nine. Like Dalton Schultz is thebetter tight end hands down. I'm willing
to pay a couple more bucks toasking about value. Now. I'm telling
you I would take Shauls too,but I understand the people to ask the
question. Bringing up dude, dudewas open. Yeah, on his twenty

(21:34):
eight catches, he was open, all right, had a big catch.
What's in a game? You reallyget on my nerves. But let's step
asid, let's get out of here. On the other side, we'll keep
talking text. I do want topivot and go around the rest of the
league as well. There are someother signings that have taken place that will
impact Casario's two year clip two yearincrement in terms of how to cap his

(21:56):
man's Killer Cow. You'll be nextup, Houston. Always welcome to hear
from you seven one three, twoone two five seven ninety to the next
episode you can't even stop yourself.Finn, John and Dorty next us as
Next Up continues on seven ninety. All right, what's going on to the

(22:17):
good people. Thank you so muchfor hanging out with us here. We're
about half an hour into a twohour program. Name of the show US
Next up at stand Sportsman at ChrisGordon is my radio partner. We are
at sports Talk seven ninety. Appreciateyou hanging out talking a little bit of
free agency. We won't get thisthing officially rolling until eleven am on Monday
morning, but there will continue tobe signings announced, people retaining their own.

(22:40):
We will see if Cassiri over theNRG will do the same. No
clue who the next domino is tofall, but you know you can stay
locked right here on seven ninety andwe'll break it to you as soon as
the news is released. Started talkingabout Danil Hunter, pro football focused defensive
end out of Minnesota. Played thishigh Gouba what high school? God Morton

(23:02):
Ranch and Katie Yeah, he fromaround these parts, collegiately played down there
in Baton Rouge and has made aname for himself up in Minnesota. If
the Texans do not retain Jonathan Gernard, the Neil Hunter by many people,
is listed as the number one edgedefender. His anticipated average annual value is

(23:23):
twenty two and a half million dollars, A little bit bigger than Grenard,
a lot better than johnthan Garnard. That's just the facts. No hate,
sorry JG. He has thus far. We'll see what JG does wherever he's
playing his ball moving forward. Iwould give some serious consideration to bring it
to Neil Hunter here. Could youget him to take a little bit of

(23:45):
a discount to come home? Maybemaybe not, we'll see. Yeah,
but you don't have to buy ahouse. Probably already got wh I would
imagine he does. I can't imaginebeing an athlete from Texas to stay taxed.
You all will go to the damnrams. You know what you canna
pay for a place in LA.We know he doesn't want to live in
Minnesota. So yeah, yeah, you gotta have you some space here in
Houston, somewhere in the in themetro area. I gotta believe, all
right. So then the conversation pivotedbefore we go to the phone line seven

(24:07):
one three two two five seven ninetyJohn new Smith, who was a name
that had been mentioned in terms ofif the Texas did not retain Dalton Schultz,
could John Us Smith, who playedtight end for the Falcons along with
Kyle Pitts last year, could youget him to come here Hunter Henry with

(24:29):
somebody a tight end out of thePatriots organization, would he come on down
and replace Dalton Schultz. If Schultzdid not re sign, John New's going
to Miami. Based on what's beingreported at five million a year, Hunter
Henry's staying in New England for ninemillion a year. Schultz is back at
twelve million a year. Did Cassiodid he uh overstep a little bit?

(24:56):
I'm not saying that he did.Gordy's not saying that he did. But
the question it has to be askedfrom a value proposition and giving Shultz inconsistency
at the point of attack in theblocking game, there are those asking could
you have essentially gotten two players forwhat you paid SUTs. I'm keeping I'm

(25:18):
keeping seven happy. That's the bottomline. By the way, Hudder Henry
last year forty two catches, fourhundred nineteen yards and fourteen games played.
Dude average twenty nine yards a game. I'm good that's I could find that
from anywhere. Yeah, the MortonRanch quarterback was as good as the dude
that's throwing him the ball in Minnesota. I'man in New England right now as
well. Kills a little bit betterkilling caw. Get in here, man,

(25:40):
tell us what you think about theseTexans and free agency this morning.
Hey man, good Friday, y'allman, first round. Let me hit
off by saying Monday Man. Yeah, I was heavy on the topics,
but I was the only caller thatyou took, So I just want to
say thank y'all for allowing me tohave an exclusive day on y'all sh man,
I appreciate that you made such shutit down, Hey, shut it

(26:07):
down. Many shut it down?Man, Hey man, uh hey uh
benya Hunter. That's that's an easynote for me, is me if I
can get yeah, I mean forthe money, if I can go too
for one, if I can sign, if I can make a trade for
her son Reddick and bring in aJack Jadavian Clowney or Chase or bring back

(26:30):
Barrett, I would go that routebecause you know Demiko loves to rotate his
his uh his up front four.So if I can get two for one
for the price of what the whatHunter is asking for. And I think
one thing we need to do iswe need to eliminate that mindset of hometown
discount, because I mean, ifa guy, I don't think no athlete

(26:53):
is gonna leave twenty thirty million dollarsfor the life of a contract on the
table just to play at home.I understand what you're saying by, you
know, being a being from Houstonbeing comfortable. But dude went up there
and played in Minnesota. If hecan have the Minnesota weather, you can
have the Chicago weather. One lastthing is my thing is I don't understand.

(27:17):
And I hit on this last night. I was on the Spaces and
hey, Stan, are you familiarwith the guy he used to work at
seven nine? I know Gordy knowJason Braddock. I know he's from the
Carolina Yeah, yeah, I knowis Yeah. He was on the Spaces
last night and he made a goodpoint, he said, And you,
being the NFC East guy, youwould know better than I were. He

(27:38):
said. The Giants have routine mefor the last fifteen to twenty years,
drafted bad offensive lineman that they couldnever get it right, and spending twelve
million dollars for a guy like Saquanplaying in the offense with Tank Dale Nico.
We signed Dalton Show, so he'san offensive up. And if you

(28:00):
draft one and you get one infree agency, how many times did a
defensive coordinator going to be able toput stack eight in the box like he's
seen with the Giants. So Ithink that'll be advantageous for CJ, knowing
that if you want to play thesedefensive games and try to restack the box,
then CJ gona have one on onecoverage against some to top of the

(28:22):
line wide receivers. I'll just lety'all hit on that man, and anytime
y'all need me to come in andpost the show for a hour, I
do. Man. Have a goodday, bro, appreciate you man,
joy your weekend. That's interesting.A few points on Danil Hunter Killer Cow
says he's okay with you know,no, he's willing to go. He
mentioned names, Shaq Barrett. Itold you guys this week, I actually

(28:44):
spoke with somebody extremely close wink winkto Hassan Reddick. He's not coming to
Houston. Get that off your mind. So who is? He said?
Shaqby oh, Chase, what's someboyfriend? Washington went to San fran Why
can't I say his name? TheDN Chase Young, Chase Young. Chase
Young is certainly going to be lessexpensive than daneil Hunter and Jonathan Garnard.

(29:07):
Yeah, and I think that's whyhis name came up so quickly when they
said, uh, you know inAaron Wilson's piece where they said if they
move on from Gernard, watch ChaseYoung. I think that's what they're thinking.
Love ticket. I'm gonna go highupside for a guy who's still only
twenty four years old. Was thenumber two pick of the draft four years
ago, has battled through injuries, but has also shown some flashes of okay,

(29:32):
I can hold it down, oppositeof Will Anderson Jr. Especially when
he's motivated. That has come intoquestion as well. And I'd love to
get Like, if you get aChase Young, I still want another like
you gotta have a mix, arotation of guys. Well, and let's
not forget they did draft Dylan hortNot at TCU, and they envision he's
a developmental guy. What was thethird, fourth, fifth round. I

(29:53):
don't know where it was specifically, but he's a developmental guy that they thought.
Now he stepped away from the teamfor some reasons. Don't know what
that's A tweets at us every weekasking about it. I don't know.
Nobody knows. They haven't given usan updated Dylan Horton since he tapped out
for personal reasons. I say tappedout with no disrespect or his dms open.

(30:14):
Yeah, he's on Twitter, hisdms are open. Shoot him a
message and say hey, god nothing, say you good homie? Got nothing.
There. There was other thoughts.Oh, Killer Cow referenced Danil Hunter
if he can play in Minnesota, while remind Killer Cow Minnesota plays indoors.
The Chicago Bears do not. Now, granted that's game day, but you
know how you practice. Yeah, when you out in the city, cold

(30:37):
is at some point cold when youup that way. But it's just something
to ask. I don't have aproblem asking a guy. And and by
the way, I personally know professionalathletes. I'll give you one story and
we'll get out of here. UhMy a year younger than me. He
played with me and Matt Sharp atVirginia. He's on ESPN now. He
does a great work. He hasa Morning Show and you see doing the

(31:00):
Carousel on ESPN. Brother by thename of Chris Canty played his high school
ball in Charlotte as I did.Chris Canny drafted by the Cowboys in four
anyway, ends up signing the freeagent deal, winning the Super Bowl with
the New York Giants, and that'sthat. I think he retired after playing
two seasons in Baltimore. My point, as he's thinking about signing the Giants

(31:23):
deal, we're having dinner there onthe We're having dinner there on the harbor
in between Jersey and the city andthe Hudson. I'm sorry, and he
says, Stan, we're meeting withthe agent and with two phones out.
Gordon green Bay was willing to giveChris Canny two million dollars a more year,

(31:45):
more guaranteed than what the Giants wereoffering two million over the length of
a what was that a five yeardeal, and Chris Canny turned it down.
Part of the reason he turned itdown is because he appreciated the lifestyle
and the future opportunities to generate money, like what he's doing on ESPN right

(32:07):
now, and he's like, no, I'm not going to green Bay.
Even though it's an iconic franchise andthey won a ton of games and Rodgers
and the whole thing. He's like, no, no, nah, Now
he ended up getting the best ofall of them, Gordon. He is
making that difference, that two milliondollar difference he has made up on ESPN,
and he's been with them, whatfive six at eight years now,

(32:29):
and he got a Super Bowl ringwith ELI and he's living a lifestyle in
Manhattan that is certainly much more attractivethan Green Bay, Wisconsin. So that's
just an example killer caw that Iknow personally of guys that do leave money
on the table. And ironically hehappens to originally be from the Bronx New
York. So we'll see if theNiel Hunter is a legitimate option. Caseario's

(32:51):
got to get on the horns here. Let's see how this thing heats up
for the rest of this show, for the rest of today here on the
network, and then most certainly overthe weekend heading into free agency. All
right, I mentioned some other signings, let's do that. On the other
side, we keep talking some NFL. We also have some astros, News
Rockets and Action tonight and Who's HouseCoog's House coming up, Kansas in Town,

(33:12):
Big twelve title on the line,at least sole possession of it.
More of that had to come righthere in Sports Talk seven nineteen. Next
up continues now. So I'm anew listener at already a huge new listener.
I love the show with Stan northFleet at Chris Gordy on Sports Talk
seven ninety. All right, let'swrap up album one here on Sports Talk

(33:34):
seven ninety, your home of Rockets, Basketball, Rockets and Action Tonight,
Gordon where they at. Oh,they're going up to the Maybu Dooka's hometown
Portland Blazers. They're not good Rocketson the road, though, never know,
we'll be getting coverage of the Rocketshere at six pm. That's so
frustrating that you let that game slipaway the other night. You could have
done on a three game win streakgoing out to Portland. Winnable game.

(33:58):
See Sacramentos. They're good and betough, ye, but they've are even
a little bit of step back fromwhere they were Your go. Then you
go to San Antonio, winnable game. Then you play the Wizards, winnable
game. One of the worst teamsin the NBA. They play the bulls
winnable game winnable. So it's justit sucks because you're like, could have
been on the three game, Sothis could have been a seven, eight

(34:19):
game win streak. It would havebeen sweet and it would have just left
a better taste in everybody's mouth. With about twenty games that would get you
back into the playing commerce too, which is most important. So we'll see
what happens there. Astros Baseball Strollsback in action today Strolls. After following
this show, Strolls will get goingtaking on the Phillies twelve oh five first

(34:39):
pitch. We will begin coverage shortlyafter this program, just before twelve or
so. All right, let mebounce around eight sound if we would go
to a couple other things. Iwant to hit number one. It was
announced yesterday that the artist Eve onher hip hop turn actress Eve is going

(35:04):
to join bun Bee's lineup for theRodeo. Think you and I will both
be in attendance. That's next week, that's on Tuesday night. What's her
other? Let Me Blow your Mindwas the big one? What other hits?
Oh, she's got a couple ofthem. You know she was with
that rough Rider's crew, so Herand Swiss Beats and Max and yeah,
who's that girl is a good one. But then you showed me a graphic

(35:27):
this morning if you're familiar with thehip hop culture, and there's this iconic
owl that keeps showing up and anowl you showed me had a cowboy hat
on. And given that it rodeoseason, many people are trying to put
one plus one together. And doesthat lead you to believe another certain artist
might be joining this rodeo lineup forBunbe on Tuesday. Well, it's already

(35:51):
out there all the news out let'sher reporting at bun Bee announce it's Drake.
That's the latest edition to the AllAmerican Takeoff. Well, wife as
my wife just texting me. Thegetting price has now just gone up to
two hundred and fifty dollars on theuh the open market, just to get
into Nargy next Tuesday. It's good. It just turned into a madhouse.
Like it was gonna be fun forsure. We've we've gone the last two

(36:14):
years farm By and all these differentartists and they announced Yin Yang Twins and
all these nice artists. But youput Drake in there. Now it's on
the another it's over like no,no question, that will be a sellout.
Drake is gonna crush it. Isaid, we got we gotta get
there early. So given that myticket price won't go up because mine a
already in hand. So so here'shis latest list. He's got Nelly e

(36:38):
forty and two short representing the WestCoast, Rick Ross, Oh, Ross
and Drake and drag Ying Yang twinsEve that Mexican ot oh and uh and
now Drake silly absolutely silly, shoutout debonn I know you could do it.

(36:58):
This is three years in a rowhe's put it to Yeah, the
Gordon knew he was gonna do it. Yeah, I got to talk to
the bosses. That means you,Gordon. I don't know about fleeting the
house on that Wednesday. The problemis free agency. Is that Wednesdayfield and
I we both have tickets to theconcert. Yeah. I will enjoy the
concert and I will go home andbe responsible and be back here at work
at dynam the next morning. WhyI get a sense that the culture is

(37:20):
gonna call me and I was coach. Let's talk about that off here.
No need to get into my presonalbusiness, all right now, the question
is who's gonna be accompanying me tothese specifics. We gotta talk about that
another time, all right. Also, I saw, speaking of the News
outlets, our boy Jason Bristol overat k h o U. He was
with James Harden last night as Hardenhas regrand opened his thirteen restaurant in Midtown.

(37:45):
I don't know, they kind ofjust you fizzled out for a second.
He kind of had it going.I was games when he played here.
It was very popitar. No,no, I'm saying even after he
left he still had it going.Yeah, I was pissed at you said,
who was going over there? Ohno, we were there. The
coach was there. I was inthere. He had like a it's like
a hookah bar on the left, then you had fine dining on the right,

(38:09):
and then you go downstairs and let'sjust say there it's an inviting environment
for a certain occupation that likes tocome down there and hang out for their
nurses, if that's the uniform youwant to put on. So anyway,
he redesigned it. They got newa new chef in there, that got

(38:29):
a new menu. I saw JasonBriuk was with that, so listen,
Harden, I'm gonna come rock withyou, my boy. I'm gonna come
slide through and show you some love. But that VIP parking situation, you
get out there try charging me eightybucks to park? Are you crazy?
Jayawden, you gotta stop that withthat bleeping park that's when you pull up,
you drop the lady off and goput her name in. I'm gonna

(38:51):
go park the park six blocks awayin your hotel. It over. I
can't be letting a woman rolling withme walk by herself and go into a
place she's never been dolo. I'mgonna gentlemen, that's that LA price gets
too ey. Yes, eighty Iam going to park on that street.
Listen, Heuston, I'm glad youbrought that up since I'm not here moving
around sometimes responsibly. Of course,Houston, y'all need to stop with some

(39:15):
of these VIP park Listen. Iwas with somebody that had a damn handicapped
parking past. The dude tried tocharge a VIP price for eighty eight handicapped
parking past that was literally two feetfrom the front door. Man, y'all
stop this taxing people for no reason. Unbelievable. Okay, speaking of the

(39:36):
city of Houston, I also sawthis. This is Mark Berman. Mark
Burman works more than any retired manI've ever seen in my life. Mark
Burman reminds us that a place thatI played one year went to school over
there for a graduate school. TSUTSU Sports Hall of Fame, which was
recently reinstated, announced its first inductionclass since nineteen ninety six. The remarkable

(40:00):
group of twenty four athletes, coaches, and contributors, including maybe you've heard
of him, a man by thename of Michael straight Han, current athletic
director, my guy, doctor KevinGranger, senior UH doctor Rob Page,
and Robert Morland. Induction will comein October. So straight Hand's gonna be
around here, and not only that, Gordon. You heard it here first,

(40:22):
I'm speaking it into existence. Michaelstraight Han's gonna sit his ass right
there in that chair across from youand I and we're gonna have some conversation
about the National Football League and whatthe citysp Oh you are such a damn
hater. You don't think that Ican get straight Hand to sit right there.
I mean that minimum, Maybe likewe could go meet up with him
somewhere. He's gonna be in studiotaking pictures in front of the I Heart

(40:44):
logo, and he's gonna sit hiswell dressed ass right there that he quit
Good Morning America or whatever other showshe's doing. He's coming down here to
be bleeping honor. Do you rememberwhen he went into the Hall of Fame
the Ocean of Soul. TSU's bandwent up there to Canton and they serenaded
him and there was a parade inwhole thing. So shout out to TSU.
Want to make sure I get mythird war? Yeah, the sauce

(41:04):
U show them some love. Straighthand congratulations. Current athletic director doctor Kevin
Grange. All right, I wonderif Hard gonna charge straight hand eighty dollars
the VIP. If I'm getting chargedstraight hand, should get charged eighty dollars
the VIP. Stop this. I'mgonna goo show you some love. All
right on the side, Let's talksome ball from the Houston Chronicle brother Jonathan
m Alexander. He has a pieceout today about free agency and the Houston

(41:30):
Texans retaining their own Let's talk toJmay as we kick off the final hour
of the show, Sports talks everynight and Gordon. When you go to
the rodeo, though, will yoube refreshing yourself with the beverage you might
be a bit parched. Yeah, the cool thing is over at an RG.

course it mini made. Or we'llbe watching the Astros three weeks from yesterday,
we'll be out there for opening Dayand join the ice cool Crawford bog.

the other side, and I'd liketo thank Connor for punching up. Our
next guest from the Houston Chronicle onthe beat with the Texans, my brother
go back to our days in Charlotteon the beat covering the Panthers as well.

(43:42):
Jonathan m Alexander goes by Jay andMay. Good morning to you,
sir. I'm good. What's up, Chris? How you doing? Hey?
Jm MA and your boy Drake iscoming to the rodeo Drake vonn everybody
else and they got oh Rick Rossis on the lineup. Are you going
over here on Tuesday? Wait,Jake Simson ready on tu Yeah? Well
yeah, it was announced this morning. Yeah, j and make pull some

(44:06):
strings, get in there, joinyour boy. First one's on me.
Hey, hey, if you're payingfor it, I'm going all right.
Speaking of who's paying your man?Nick cao Sario over there, NRG.
He's been cutting checks this week?Is he done cutting checks? And then
who is the next one that's gonnainca deal from the current free agent class?

(44:27):
Yeah, there are in discussions withthe number of several of their fridgents.
I wrote today, You know,I know that they've been talking with
the representation of Blake Cashman and thisweekend will be a crucial weekend and whether
they can get a deal done.If they don't get a deal done this
weekend, then I think Blake Cashmancould see some suitors from other teams around

(44:51):
the link and he could be onhis way out. He told me uh
an interview that he wants to stay. He ideally would love to stay in
Houston. But you know the factthat Houston and Houston has made offers,
but the fact that they have inrecent agreement would also signify that they have
their priorities elsewhere at the moment, and it still could come back. So

(45:14):
I think I reported Cam Johnson,I think he's headed for free agency.
It appears that I think for Nardiis heading for free free agency as well,
and Steven Nelson. It also paysthat way. We ain't gonna just
go out over there and I'm sorry, god it well, let me get
my notes out. HOWLDNG say thatagain, you think Cam Johnson is headed

(45:36):
for free agency. So that's mypartner. You said you think cash is
headed the free agency. You said, JG you believe is headed the free
agency, and those three. Didyou have another one in there? I
mean the rest of their free agents, like if they don't get a deal,
like I think the most if there'sa guy to get a deal done
this weekend, then I think it'llbe Blake Cashing. Otherwise you'll see a

(46:00):
lot of the free agents who theyhave who they haven't signed, test the
market and they could come back aftertesting market. And I feel like they
have other teams that like them, but I think those are both. I
think Blake Cashman is the most likelyif he if there is a deal to
get done, he's the most likelyto deal done this weekend. But right
now I think that they haven't recentagreement on that specific number. It's it's

(46:22):
gonna be interesting. John Johnathan,we were kicking around, uh, you
know, Daniel Hunter as a possibleyou know free agent, and look,
he's expected to be one of thetop defensive end free agents. And you
know, we kind of agree. We think he has been better obviously collectively
his career than than John Grenard. But it is an interesting one. Man.
You know, he's a Houston native. If you could get a Daniel

(46:43):
Hunter on a relatively you know, doable deal, obviously got a lot of
money to spend, But like,is that a guy you think they could
attract. I just I look atCassera and he just doesn't seem like it's
in his DNA to be the typeto go and spend big on a big
name free agent, because he's alwaysbeen that guy who's kind of got the
eye in the knack for finding theBlake Cashman's and you know, those kind

(47:04):
of guy getting great value out ofa out of a lesser expensive guy.
But would Danil Hunter be a guyyou would go spend a big, big
deal on. Yeah, I thinkthat it is possible. However, I
think Danil Hunter will be probably thehighest paid defensive end in this market,
and from what I understand my importing, the Technics want to go after a

(47:25):
big defensive tackle, so that thatmight kind of hamstream them on going after
Daniel Hunter. I do think theywant to go after one of the top
defensive tackles as possible. Christian Wilkinsis out there, Chris Jones is out
there. You know, I recordedthose names as well on Sunday, So
I think those are a little bitmore likely than than Hunter. I think

(47:47):
he's also going to be thirty comingup next season, and to pay somebody
that amount of money at that particularage, to me, even though he's
been highly productive, probably has afew more years, isn't probably the smartest
decision. So I think it wouldbe smarter to pay a guy like Jonathan
Gernard the money. But I dothink I do think the fact that they

(48:12):
haven't recent agree with Jonathan Garnard wouldseem to indicate that Demiko Lyons has something
up to sleeve and he will spendmoney on the defensive line. That's where
he said publicly his resources and whenDimico Ryan says something publicly, he can
usually take that as as words.Jonathan m Alexander of the Houston Chronicle hanging
out with us here on next Up, stan Fleet and Gordon each weekday ten
to now. So I got intoa conversation with one of our colleagues in

(48:37):
the media, and we spend somuch time talking about wide receiver. Obviously,
Mike signs the deal and stays inTampa. Michael Pittman Jr. Is
gonna stay Indianapolis, to Higgins taggedas well to stay in Cincinnati. So
now we're back in this wide receiverconversations. I'm gonna ask you two things.
Do you believe Casario's gonna go outthere and go get who's kind of

(49:00):
the best of the rest gave DavisOsbourne, maybe a Calvin Ridley, And
or do you believe Nico will replicatethe type of production that would warrant getting
a deal done before he's able tohit free agency next season? Yeah,

(49:20):
I mean, Nick Zario said itpublicly. He has plans to try to
talk to Drew Rosenhaus, Nico's agentafter free agency, which would be the
spring, about a possible contract extension, and I think that likely can get
happened, That likely will happen. You look at Nico, he had some
injuries his first few years. Tome, it makes the most sense if

(49:42):
he can find that right price tosign that extension this offseason, en sure
that he's locked up for future years. They want him back, they'll pay
him so then Nico could play thegame. I think Nico is a tremendous
athlete. He's gotten better each yearand you can see it. He just
really needed an opportunity and a quarterbackto really shine and he's got that,
and I think he's going to continueto be better. I think he's going
to be a number one wide receiver. He I mean, he kind of

(50:04):
showed that he was this past year, so yeah, I think he's going
to be the guy. As faras like free agents go, I don't
think the Texans are going to endup signing a huge free agent. I
think they'll sign another guy looking toprove it, similar to a Noah Brown,
maybe even Noah Brown bringing the backof the prices, right. I
like Curtis Samuel out there. Usedto play for the Panthers. Me and
Stan saw him covering me. He'sa really, really great third down guy.

(50:27):
Dealt with injuries, but he canreally do a lot, can even
run it. I like him someother clear three number number three wide receivers,
and then I think they'll look atthe draft. This draft is deep
with wide receivers, so I thinkyou could see the Texans look for one
on Day two. Yeah. That'swhat's so fascinating about the Nico Collins conversation,
because I was listening to a podcastall right that was saying, look

(50:49):
at the hit rate on all thesereceivers in the drafts the last couple of
years. It's way higher than itused to be. And you know,
even this year, you're look ata tank down, a pooka Nakua and
guys who just kind of took theleague by storm, and so it does
almost make you kind of go,maybe we let Nico play out one more
year before we give that big payday. Because if there's a receiver they fall
in love within the middle rounds thisyear, I mean, why not pull
the pot, pull the trigger. On top of continue to develop a John

(51:13):
Metchi and a Xavier Hutchinson so thatwide receiver spots just fascinating. Yeah.
Absolutely, But you know, youdon't let One thing you don't do is
you don't let elite receivers walk withoutgetting something from them. Historically the past
three years, with how good orhow the increased attention on passing has been,

(51:34):
wide receivers rarely walk. They rarelymake it the free agency. So
I don't at all expect Nico towalk in free agency. For Nick Considro
to even say that he would entertaingetting a contract attention publicly would seem to
indicate that he wants to go afterhim, and I think he will do
it this offseason and try to geta still done. Will it happen?
I think it'll be up to bothsides to make sure that number is right.

(51:55):
But I think he'll be an emphasisfor sure. All right, let's
get you out of here on thisone, Jama and thinking about Nagle.
Free agency officially starts in terms ofbeing able to go after other people's players
on the Monday, eleven am localtime. Give me some other targets that

(52:15):
we have not talked about. We'llget into and we got into it actually
yesterday, Gordon. This safety, this safety market is more robust than we
thought it might be. We stillin this city have a cornerback concern.
Continue to hear Patrick Queen interested incoming to Houston. Give me some other
names and positions that you'd encourage Texansfans to keep their eyes on. I

(52:39):
mentioned Christian Wilkins. I think thatis definitely possible Christian, but I don't
know how the Chiefs view him andwhether they would I would I would think
that the Chiefs wouldn't let him go. But I do think that Texans will
try to go after a big defensetackle. I think Aziz al Shayer have
been played with Miko and San Franciscolinebacker from Titans. I think he's a

(53:04):
possible guy you could see, uhthe Texans go after. He's somebody I've
watch. Like I said, CurtisSamuel, He's a guy I think gave
Yay Davis is a guy who willprobably be priced out of what the Texans
will try to afford. But Ireally wouldn't put it past Saquon Barkley for
the Texans to be in discussions. You know, I'm not hearing that that's

(53:28):
what will happen, but I doknow that Squan is open to, you
know, possibly potentially leaving the Giants, and the Texans want to upgrade at
running back, so if they inthe running back market isn't going to be
great. You know, the Texanscould get a great deal with Squan and
I definitely think he's possible. Ithink also running back from the Eagles,

(53:51):
Swift of potential potential guy. Sothose as are some names that come off
the top of the head, andI think if possible. As far as
safety goes, I think they'll probablylet that play itself out. I don't
think they're gonna part ways with JimmyWard and they're gonna still I think they're
going to add depth at safety becausethey need to, and they need to
find a future person, but Idon't with it be in such a deep

(54:12):
class. They'll let it play itselfhard and see how that goes. What's
up real quick? A dollar figureon Singletary? It feels like they could
get him back. What do youthink a guy like that's going to command?
Yeah, the running back market justisn't isn't great. When I look
at Singletary, I look at somethingalong the lines, but like somewhere between
four to six per year. Youknow, I just don't and that might

(54:37):
not be what the Texans may bewilling to pay. I think I know
they value him, which they couldprobably they probably want to wait to let
him test the market and if hedoesn't get the money figure he does trying
to negotiate it. When you're doingthat, Yeah, I think a one
or two year deal, a maxtwo year deal. They could give him
another proof of year deal. Hewould probably want more just to assure,

(54:59):
yes, more security. But Ido think a one or two year deal
would probably be in line with whata guy like Devin Singletary would probably command.
There it is. We'll let yougo on that one so you can
enjoy your weekend. Brother, theboy said Jonathan m Alexander on the beat
for the Texans, courtesy of theHouston Chronicle. Please follow him. If
you aren't doing so, you should, John J O N. M Alexander,

(55:22):
Brother, we appreciate it and we'lltalk about too to see what I
can do pull some strings for yoursince Drizzy in the building. I appreciate
that. Thank you for having meto you. Brother, We gotta come
back. I'm gonna put that onPauls for a second because I do want
to talk some Astros because there aresome interesting MLB nuggets. But Johnsan Alexander
a couple things there. We'll getto that at eleven thirty. Gordon,

(55:45):
I'm not even gonna do it now. All right, let's get a home
of Astros baseball. Let's get onanother side. Sports Talk seven nine Staton
North Fleets and Chris Gordy. Thisis next tough on Sports Sunk seven.
Shout out to my man coach Stove. Listen, this is one of our
tracks. Boy, you got thosesongs going it that just it's almost spiritual

(56:08):
for you. It just connects youto a certain place in time or like
I told bun Be, this truestory when we were saying goodbye to Indi
Koaloo, and he was leaving thestation. Last February, Bun popped up
on us during indie show. GregCook was here and I told Bunn,
I said, man off that trillalbum of yours. You got a song

(56:28):
called Pushing and from it I meanspiritual. That song has gotten your boy
through a lot of dark days. And so Bun said, we'll have to
talk some more about that at somepoint. I need to tell him about
that. No, you got atrack like that. You got something that
moves you. It doesn't have tobe in hip hop whatever, grummre.
You got a song that does itfor you. I got a few.
Would you like to give the peopleone? So damn private Connor, give

(56:52):
me a song spiritually does something foryou, any genre, no problems.
Chess rapper, that's a good one. Interesting, Okay. I like that.
I can see where you're going atI mean, I don't know what
it means to you, but Iunderstand the whole Carter One album. You
and the Carter couldn't be any furthertalking about selling dope and hustling. So

(57:14):
I grew up, Nola. That'sabout the only connection you easy godad you
make me laugh? Man? Weuh we made the same amount of money
we were kids. He got richpretty quick, Gordy, he was a
millionaire. Fifteen. Where were yousomewhere trying to shoot some jumpers? Three
point stands? Were you? Iwas rapping? You were not rapping at

(57:36):
fifteen sixteen? Stop lying to thepeople. God, no real talk.
I'll play some songs for you.I have to hear me dig up the
old cassettes. Hey, Connor,do you can you see Gordy spitting some
bars? Sit? Yeah, Iwant to hear it. I was more
of the hook guy by Buddy Jimmywas the rapper, That's the one I'm
at. Who was it that wasthe hit? Other Gus John Oh,

(57:57):
Jonathan got He was on one songwith us. His name his name was
Chocolate Thunder. Should have brought thatup when he was here. Oh my
god, that's some Friday and soI'm sorry, y'all. It's a little
loose around here. That's funny. We will come back to that at some
point. Gordy, did you havea name? Yo? What was your

(58:20):
rapping name? Gordia good car byUkon Gordy, your name was see g
Z that's why I call you Jesusspelled with a G. All right,
okay, how do we transition fromthat to the Astros? All right?
Astros were in action. You heardit here. Yesterday ASTs went action.
Who they played yesterday? Go tothe St. Louis Cardinals. That was
you had it on delay. Theyended up beating the Cardinals six to three.

(58:45):
Quick report about the performances from yesterday. Big first eddit for the offense.
They got it going. Yeah,I saw Kyle Tucker RBI single,
Joseah bra You RBI double, yonEr Diaz found out RBI and Chas McCormick
RBI single. Last year you blinkedand the Astros are up for nothing.

(59:07):
And then who's this? Javier wasgiving up some yams. We had two
solos, right, Yeah, itwas a It was a solo homer to
Jordan Walker in the second, asolo homer to Matt Carpenter in the third.
So he finished the day, uhthree innings, two runs off three
hits with six strikeouts. So itall all in all, I mean,
that's that's not bad. Look,it was the first. It was the

(59:28):
first blemish because every starter for theAstros has basically been lights out. They've
been shutting him out two three innings, so he gave up the two runs,
but dude, six strikeouts. That'sthe Javier we were looking for.
Like again, solo shots. It'sit's spring, but like strike out stuff
working, and that's three innings andwe'll start to see him start to work
up a little bit more more innings. But like, no, Javier's Javier

(59:49):
is good. I'm good on everybody. Ran Presley pitched. He gave up
a run in the fourth, butFrober's the big one. Frobber's the one
we got. We gotta keep watching. But everybody else, I feel like
Javier is back. Renald Blancos pitchwell, Hunter Brown's been good, Like
everybody's been fine. Christian Haavier averagedthe ninety three point seven mile per hour

(01:00:09):
and hitting ninety five miles an houron the fastball in his Grapefruit leave start
against the Cardinals today. His fastballaveraged ninety two point seven last season,
so he's up one mile per houron the fastball. Javier struck out six
and three innings. He also allowedhome runs as you said to Matt Carpenter
and Jordan Walker, both off fastballs. All right, so again action today,

(01:00:34):
I have not seen who the hell'spitching today. I spend said again,
oh, I did see the lineupis out? Who had that?
I think I saw that From herewe go. Kawahara of the Chronicle,
you got Low Perfito, That'stros TwitterI also put it out, Yeah,
low Pafito and center jokeson left, somebody named Wagner at first, that David

(01:00:54):
Hensley at third. You got Cabbagein right field, Barry Hill, dh
Kassinger at short, Whitcomme at secondsaves Salazar's behind the player that you already
mentioned, Rari Gettis. So it'sa space cowboys stad That's what essentially is.
But you know, obviously Cory Jolksand David Headingsleay and Trey Cabbat are

(01:01:15):
all in competition to make the openingday roster. All right, there's other
news pertaining to the astros. Isaw this and I put this on the
DMS last night or this morning one. So this is courtesy of Fox Sports,
MLB Twitter account, x dot comaccount. There are five players listed

(01:01:36):
on MLB The Show twenty twenty fourfor five players listed with a ninety nine
overall rating Mookie Betts, Aaron Judge, Mike troump, Ronald Acunya Junior,
show Hel Tani. I don't havean issue with any of those being on
the ninety nine list, but there'sclearly an omission that needs to be discussed.

(01:01:58):
Gordon, you had the same thoughts. How the hell is shown on
Alvarez not ninety nine in his game? He's just he's still not getting the
respect. How what else do theywant him to do? He was an
All Star last year? What he'sabout the most one of the most him?
Him and al Tuve your two mostclutch postseason hitters without cool. I

(01:02:19):
mean literally Game six World Series twoyears ago, champion, he wins that
game for you, a post againstthe Seattle Mariners in the postseason, he
ruins their season. I mean,it's like, what more does he mean
to get? Aaron Judge, letme know. Okay, they do great
home run totals, you know throughoutthe season. Awesome, let me know
when you do something clutch. Letme know when you come up big and

(01:02:40):
punch your ticket for the Yankees tothe postseason. That's why I just like
Acuna is up there, Trout's upthere obviously, and show. Hey Mookie
Betts. Okay, he's he's beena great player out there in LA.
But it kind of gets lost becauseLA has got a ton of great talent.
But so those are the five ninetynine players, and again this is
the video game that won't be theshow. But right after the top five

(01:03:00):
ninety nine, they have Corey Seegeras a ninety eight. Again he wins
the World Series and he elevates alittle bit more people's mind. Spencer Strider
the picture for the Braves they gotas a ninety seven, and then Jordan
Alvarez a ninety six along with AustinRiley from the Braves, and on the
ninety six is disrespectful. We gotone Houston Astro in the top nine players

(01:03:23):
in MLB the show. And it'sso funny I saw the other day was
that Ben Verlander or somebody had putout they did some simulator did predictions of
the next the two teams to playfor the World Series for like the next
five, six, seven years, and none of them had the Astros in
there. We're going, wait aminute, did I miss something? Is
there? Did the Astros die likeover the next five years? That's absurd.

(01:03:47):
Have you been in the ALCS everyyear for seventy eight years. Like
if you just put them in onetime. I'm not saying you got to
put him every year, But togo five seasons and the Astros don't appear
in did we die off all ofa sudden? It's like, how have
we not earned the respect enough togo? Hey? There? They get
here every damn year. I don'tknow if the KANCA chief's gonna make the
playoffs, Cape Pencil, the manwho knows of Golden State gonna make the

(01:04:10):
player in tournament or not. It'sjust certain organizations you can benefited out,
all right. Also, as wewrap up this segment, Gordy, I
saw an announcement this did come fromanother Astros Twitter account, how we will
be viewing Astros baseball via television. We know to Space City Home Network is
the primary television home. Right afterwe got off the area. Yesterday,
MLB announced their their partnership with AppleTV Plus again continues this year, and

(01:04:34):
they announced their their Friday games forthe first half of the season. The
Astros will appear there three times, including the second game of the season that's
just done three weeks from tonight.Game two. Astros Yankees will air on
Apple TV. Of course, we'llhave it for you here either on Sports
SUX seven ninety or a sister stationuser here seven to forty k t H.

(01:04:54):
Yeah, so you'll be able tohear the radio broadcasts, but if
you want to watch it, youwill have to have that Apple TV Plus
for the second game of the season, and then it's I think like a
week later they play the Rangers upin Arlington, that game will be Apple
TV Plus. Yeah, March twentyninth, April the fifth versus the Rangers,
and then June twenty eighth versus theNets. Are the three games designated

(01:05:16):
right now for Apple TV Plus. You know what, bleep Apple TV for
that, But they paid for it. And if you're a mob, you're
like, hey, this is thesecond game of the series. Now,
I imagine the Yes network is upand off too, because that's the second
game for the Yankees as well. That's taking revenue away from them. I
can't imagine they're pleased up that wayeither. But they get revenue. I

(01:05:39):
mean, the teams get revenue fromthe Yeah, you share the revenue,
but it's not like, let metell you this, whatever Space City Home
Network would get from that Yankees broadcastif it was just Space City versus sharing
that with the rest of the leaguevia Apple TV. Yeah, they must
rather have that game for themselves, and I gotta imagine the Yes network will
feel the same way. But again, more importantly, every game will be

(01:06:02):
on the radio majority either here majorityhere on seven ninety. But if there's
an issue where we got like theRockets are still playing there on seven ninety,
then seven forty the Astro, Sowe'll always have the radio broadcast for
you for free on the free Iheard radio app Dude, it is all
right lest episode, let's come back. We heard from Jonathan m Alexander.
But you mentioned Stanic by the way, did not see the marig looking near

(01:06:23):
deal there it is now we wouldlike to go to break if our program
director would allow us to do so. So you turn the page on Astros.
I was emptying the book on Astrosand perhaps our program director will allow
us to go to break. It'smo fu stan this this next time on

(01:06:44):
Sports Talk seven. I'm so proudof you. If they call it to
kill it, oh my goodness,I can't wait for Tuesday. If you
hadn't heard it now, Drake willbe joining bun Bee's lineup. Let me
not be disrespectful to Miss Eve.She will also be joining the lineup.
And that's just one of my songsright there, pushing off the Trill album,

(01:07:06):
The Homie bun dig Yank Twins. Can we police acknowledge that I'm good
on? Yeah? I mean, come on, you just wanted to say
twork. That's Chris Gordon. I'mstaying north for a Connedy McGovern Astros baseball
coming your way in about twenty fourminutes. Astros in action versus the Philadelphia
Phillies. Earlier this hour, weheard from Jonathan m Alexander. He's on

(01:07:30):
the beat for the Texans Houston Chronicle, and he dropped a couple of gems
on us and he tried to glossby something. I said, Well,
we got to run this back.He said he believes as of now,
Cam Johnson, the Pawner, JonathanGrenard, Edge, Blake Cashman Linebacker are

(01:07:51):
likely to hit free agency. Wow, yeah, I don't think that's a
surprise. That's about what I thought. No, Well, first of all,
Cam Johnsons got to be back findinga good puny. You know how
I feel about my special team, and he's been a pretty damn good weapon.
How many people for them several times? No question? All right?

(01:08:13):
But I also feel like, comeon, punters are down to dust.
They are not they are they arenot. Trust your boy on this.
I don't want to get caught upin a million putters and not a million
of them are good. Cam Johnson'sgood. They will cost you feel a
position for sure. All right? So this Cashman JG. And Jonathan Alexander
has an article up right now.Looked like he spent some time with Cashman

(01:08:34):
as Cashman has started his training regimentto get ready for the twenty four season.
Are we okay losing cash mean andJG? If that's what it comes
to, Yeah, because they're bothgood players that I'm not going to overpay
for. So and we all knowhow you feel about paying dudes. So,
Hey, I wanted to pay DaltonSchultz, you were like, could

(01:08:55):
you get John ue Smith? That'snot what I not what I said.
I asked the question I would havepaid Schultz this twelve million year. The
question I asked was it has beenreported John Newsmith has agreed to go to
the Dolphins for five million a year. This morning, Hunter Henry. But
the Patriots is going back at ninemillion a year. When you put that

(01:09:18):
beside Dalton Schortz at twelve million, there are people that are asking, did
they overpay for Dalton Schartz. Idon't believe they did. You don't believe
they did. The only thing Ilook at is you got seventeen guys on
the defense that are free agents. So if you overpaid a little bit to
keep Blake Cashman, what you're doingis you're just You're filled a hole there

(01:09:39):
with a guy you already had becauseyou got so many holes down. But
see now I'm gonna use the argumentyou just had against you. I can
find a million dudes to give mewhat Blake Cashman gave me, or is
thereabouts. It may not be exact, maybe a little better, maybe a
little worse, but I can finddudes to play linebacker, finding the premiere
tight end in this free agent yousee slash NFL draft class. No,

(01:10:02):
no, no, Schultz had tocome back. Now, I'm okay,
losing cash Cash has not been healthy. He played his ass off this past
year. I think he's got enough. Matter of fact, I'm not the
only one. Let me hear minacons. We heard her earlier bragging on
Johnny Smith mina cons NFL Live. She had some thoughts on Blake Cash.
As I was watching Houston increasingly,I was like, yo, who's fifty

(01:10:26):
three. I was just like, damn, he's really good. He's really
good tackler and he would make playsin coverage. There was a game mid
season where he had like nineteen tackles, which is crazy, but he played
Mike well Sam. You know,he did it all, and it was
just such an obviously good fit forthe Debiko Ryans defense and what they ask

(01:10:46):
of their off ball, what heasks of offball linebackers and coverage. You
know, next to Sassi's nearest defender, which you know you can you have
to kind of put it in context, but of all linebackers you played over
to recovered snaps, Catchman came inat fourth fourth lowest in the NFL negative
twelve EPA per play or EPA premieas the nearest defender. So he was

(01:11:09):
very good this season and I feellike he's an ascending player. Maybe Houston
wants in back, we'll see,but that's somebody that I would be I
would have an eye on if Iwas a team that needs a linebacker,
mean of comes, and then inthe VPA, in the FLA, he
is nine four in the FTT likeyou really play like the dude he just

(01:11:30):
told you he could PU, butshe also told you why pay? And
again he's he was pretty good indropping back in the coverage when he needed
to on tight ends and stuff. But but then you look at you know,
four games this year where he haddouble digit tackles and obviously that Averonsner
game I was at when he hadnineteen like he was everywhere so defensive player
at the conference where you can lethim walk fine, But where do you

(01:11:51):
need someone to replace that production. This is where you hear names like Aziz
al Shaer. You're going to hearthe Patrick Queen. I like Patrick Queen,
but to me, that's a luxurypick. Now, Dimico may feel
different, Demiko may feel like, hell, no, I know what it
means to a defense to have aFred Warner type in there. No,

(01:12:13):
no, no, no, Ineed a real backer. If I'm losing
Denzel Pairman, Aaron Wilson reminded usearlier in the week, don't be surprised
if Denzel Pairman returns that is stilla possibility, which I would be totally
cool with that. When he's healthy. I think he's productive given what he's
being compensated. I'm okay losing Cash. I'm probably different than many of you

(01:12:35):
because I'm okay losing JG. Andhere's my problem. And this is when
I took a step back and Iwas getting ready for the show today and
I was thinking about it. Intotality, the Texans have so many dudes
that balled out, and it's thefirst time we've really seen that. We
hadn't seen Nico play like this.Career year for him, career year for

(01:12:56):
Derek Stingley Jr. Career year forBlake Cashman, career year for Christian Harris.
Now obviously tankdal is a rookie, but we saw what he like.
Dalton shows everybody's having a career year. Devin Singletary, albeit not necessarily a
career year by overall yardage, buton like a per play or per carry

(01:13:17):
basis, Singletary had an excellent year. So I get nervous about forking over
Doe Gordy to guys that just hadthat flash in the pan. I'd like
to see it a couple seasons ina row at least, and then I'm
cool giving guys fifteen, eighteen, twenty twenty two million dollars a year.
So I'm okay letting JG walk youguys asked, Okay, Stan, if

(01:13:41):
you let JG out the building, then who's replacing him? Okay? And
Jonathan and Alexander told us today,Hey, that Dan nail Hunter. That
number's gonna be high. We estimatedat twenty two and a half million dollars
per year, probably a three orfour year deal giving his agent, and
he even get out of the dealon the back end of it. But
okay, if you're not doing that, who are some other names? If
you lose Grenad, probably the draftis where they go. I will presume

(01:14:06):
we keep hearing Chop Robinson, Wekeep hearing who's the kid out of Missouri?
The Darius Robinson keeps coming up?I saw this and this little make
some folks happy. Maybe depend onhow you feel about the draft. Penn
State defensive end adisa Isaac will havea top thirty visit versus with the Houston

(01:14:28):
Texans. According to the Draft Network. What did he do at the combine?
He's an edge defender by the way. What did he do at the
combine stand? I will tell youmomentarily as soon as I pull it back
up. Aha. He is sixfoot four, two hundred and forty seven
pounds. His arm length nearly thirtyfour inches, really long arms ran four

(01:14:49):
seven four. Not great ten yardsplit, however, one sixty four broad
jump ten three. I like thatpart. Not a great athlete, but
a developmental proce. I suspect thatcould maybe fill in some of that wrong.
Well, y'all, Oh, okay, we got to get out it.
I keep thinking about it. Sorry, Steve on the northwest side,
brother, I grab you next week. We got to get ready for Astros

(01:15:10):
baseball strows playing the Phillige. Hangtight right here. Good week out of
you, guys, Probably your bestweek since you've been hired here. Connor,
your energy was down early on,but I think we started talking about
Drake and Bonn. We got youtogether, Gordon. We'll let the higher
ups evalue of this performance. Ohwas that a management flex on the way
out the window? Now? Itwas a management flex from our program director.

(01:15:32):
You know what, I'm saying somenice things about you in my head
right now. All right, forcomedy Magovern, Chris Gordon, Stan Flee,
all of you that allows to dothis thing on this seven ninety call.
Next up, we appreciate it.Houston. You know I love you,
ILL appreciate you a ton of respect. Free agency talk, but we
actually get real names next week.God bless enjoy your weekend. Jorda Rodeo,
be safe. We'll do it again, y'all be well,
