(00:00):
For details on how we got tothat point and are the Texans involved in
other conversations with adding wide receivers. We go to our Texans inside of NFL
know it all, and I meanthat affectionately. The man knows everything about
the NFL. On the guest lineon Aaron Wilson, good morning to ya,
Dubbs. Hey, good morning guys. How are you. I'm doing
pretty good, brother Gordy is out. Today's Jess Connor and myself hanging out.
(00:24):
So let's do that. Tell mehow close were the Texans to getting
Keenan Allen. Well, they tooka pretty big swing at it, so
yeah, I would say close. But the Bears preferred and accepted the Chargers
offer of a fourth round pick thisyear. So when you're talking about compensation
(00:45):
next year, it just doesn't necessarilyhave the immediacy of the value that you
prefer. That's no knock on whatthey attempted to do. That that's what
you're supposed to do. You tryto look for opportunities. Not everything works
out. I mean, there's noshame in that. It's just like you
know, you've been on Saquon Barkley, You've been on the Sheldon rankings.
You don't get everything done, andmost of the time too, you don't
(01:07):
always know after the fact, wellwhat are you hearing? The offer was
that sort of thing, So that'sa little different. I would say it
just shows that they're very interested andengaged, as you said at the launch
of this, in the wide receiverposition, and it can mean other wide
receivers, draft, pre agency orthe trade. So the team building process
(01:30):
is ongoing for the Casario Demico Ryansand the Texans organization. But yeah,
they attempted it. They got close. The Jets were not close the Texans,
you know, but you know,it's like horseshoes and you know,
hang remades, those were in theclose counts. You know, just you
either get it done or you don't. And you know, it is a
bottom line business. But it doesshow that the Texans are not done in
(01:56):
any stretch. I mean, theseason begins in September, I think a
lot will change about the roster inwhich we now and then, and even
though they've made a ton of movesand some really good woes, this is
just kind of the initial foray intothat. And you know, he's got
a lot of heavy lifting, butthat would have been a great move.
And you know, he's obviously,as they call it, classy pro and
(02:20):
one of the best, great routerunner, great hands. Would have been
outstanding mentor to some of these youngerreceivers, not that they necessarily need that
much mentoring with the success they're alreadyhaving. And you know the positive update
from the weekend about Tank Dell watchingTank run and talking to his train and
de ponting Dama. But that said, yeah, I don't see anything the
(02:44):
downside of it. I mean,it's not like fans and some of the
media, they get caught like wherethey have their heart set on something.
Remember all the hysteria they have tohave erk instead they've got to have Okay,
guess what they don't. Life goeson. I think you just you're
not going to win every negotiation.I know that, And that's sense why
(03:06):
fans sort for fanatic, That's whythey get caught up. I try it
to be emotional by any of this. Just my job, you know,
it's my job to attract this stuff. But as far as just like what
people think about it, it justmeans that they made an attempt to get
a great football player and they're differentkind of things. They're different offers.
So for the Chicago Bears run byRyan Poles and Maddie Refluse, they prefer
(03:31):
to have a draft pick right now. And you know the Texans, you
know, they've traded their first roundpick, They've done a few other things.
That's okay, let's see. Imean, we need time to see
how if these moves are good, bad, or in different you know,
let's wait, let's wait. Ido find it interesting though, as we
your pivot off Keenan Allen, withthe Texans having two fourth round picks right
(03:53):
now this upcoming draft, if Chicagotook a fourth from UH, if the
Chargers took a fourth from Chicago, why wouldn't they take it from the Texans.
Just something that jumped into my head. I'm like, okay, well
you got to for us anyway.Nonetheless, to your point, Keenan Allen
is now playing for the Bears, and we wish him well as long as
(04:13):
his interest don't conflict with Texans business. All Right, I saw something a
response from you over the weekend.Tell me about T Higgins? Can I
get T Higgins in the Texans uniform? I don't know that he's as available
as some people think. You know, there have been up and down things
about t Higgins. There's some otherones too we can get into. But
(04:35):
yeah, I don't sense that anythingis And remember they're supposed to get two
for sure, traff picks for him, but usually the compensations of being left.
So what does it take and thenwhat kind of extension does he get
because that's what you would have todo. So then does that conflict with
your wishes with a Nico Collins, you know? And how does that work?
(05:00):
So you know, there are alot of ways they can go.
I can go down a list ofsome things I've heard about receivers if if
you you want me just kind ofgo on some quick hit. You could
just do some quick hit as I'veheard Curtis Samuel, I've heard Stefan Diggs.
I mean you're hearing some Tyler Boyd. I mean Curtis Samuel's. You
know he's off the market now,but Tyler Boyd. We have not heard
(05:24):
of them being in on Tyler Boyd. Steelers and Jets. There's a disagreement
around the NFL about what his valueshould be. He'd like it to be
at eight. I've heard that mostof the teams are talking about five.
His market's still settling. They haven'tbeen in on Mike Williams as of yet,
or Michael Gallup. I think theyyou know, I think looked into
(05:45):
Gallup a bit, did not wantto trade for him. Obviously he was
cut. No one wanted to tradefor a player that's about to be released.
And then Williams, the reason hehas to take these visits is because
of his health, so he's ona tour. And then same thing with
they want to check him out.So Gallup with Carolina his first visit,
and same thing for Williams. SoDeebo Samuel, I'm told unavailable right now?
(06:10):
You unavailable? Stepan Niggs. There'sa thirty one million dollars cap hit
for the Bills, and then theylose their best receiver, so why should
they trade him? And now Houstondoesn't have a first round draft pick anyway,
so what are you talking about nextyear's one? I mean, and
then Justin Jefferson, I don't knowif you saw this, He tweeted,
(06:32):
Houston we have a problem with aheart, then he deleted it. I
mean, it would be like JulioJones kind of trade to get someone like
him, and then he has makingthe highest paid receiver in the NFL my
opinion, So a lot of thesethings. Yeah they sound good on paper,
but this isn't fantasy football. Youknow. You can talk about this
stuff and I see the fans orI see Antonio Brown's CTE STN thing with
(06:58):
saying that Niggs has come here.Yeah, I don't know. I haven't
heard of that at all. I'veheard some. I've also had some NFL
people that are close to that situationlaughing and texting me about Antonio's fo a
into reportings. We'll see if avif he's on the money, but I
(07:18):
don't think that that's happening right now, if it all ever will happen.
The voice of Aaron Wilson, ourTexans insider here on Sports Talk seven ninety
hanging out with me. Gordie isout today. This is next up,
new to the station, new tothe show. All right, we'll get
you out here on this one.A Doves, it broke while we were
on the air, or just priorto me getting on the air last week.
(07:41):
I know you were all over it. Trade out of twenty three.
In the aftermath hindsight, you hada whole weekend and look at this thing
and to make some cause. Howis this trade being valued or viewed by
other teams? Really close on thevalue chart, especially the Jimmy Johnson one,
not the only chart that people areusing, that's a little more outdated,
(08:01):
but any value chart, it's closeon the numbers. What I would
say about the trade is, youknow, you look at clusters of players.
There will be players that will stillbe there at forty two that some
people may have value his first rounddraft picks. That happens every year.
I'm expecting a run on offensive tacklesand receivers and that should leave some players.
(08:28):
Also, corners will go off theboard still there, and you can
always trade back. He can moveup if there's a player that he wants
to get. He has the ammunition, He has enough draft capital in the
next few years to do that.I think having more and more players under
team control, adding you know, potentially you know something in the second round.
(08:48):
These are guys you think will eventuallybe starters for you, hopefully,
so I understand it. I meanI think maybe at twenty three, just
speculating here, perhaps they felt theywere kind of a no land as far
as you know, is the talentreally worth it? Is there going to
be a transcendent player? But Iremember, you know, and again this
seppens all the time. Like EdReed or ray Lewis, they were ticks
(09:11):
in the mid twenties. But youknow that that happens sometimes, guys for
whatever reason do fall. We've seenlots of great players that were the last
pick of the first round or oneof the last picks. You've seen good
second round picks too. I mean, I believe if my memory is serving
as Deebo Samuel was a second rounder. I think he was out of South
(09:31):
Carolina. Yeah, I think hewas. So you can find value.
You can also, especially with receivers, with the way this draft is,
if that suppecifically want to go forthat or corner, there's enough supply and
demand that it works. For theTexans, you know, we'll see like
who's on the when they're on theclock, looks left. We've seen some
(09:52):
of their pre draft activity. ContestStiggers, a corner is visiting this week.
They've had have a visit with EdrewingCooper linebackers, so you know they're
looking at some Yeah, there's alot of guys like that, So they
seem like they're interested in all kindsof positions defense, offense. They met
with all the usual suspects you wouldthink they met with, you know,
(10:13):
shouldn't be with at the combine basedon what we perceive there needs to be
I think, and it's very fluid. But yeah, when you look at
the trade, I get it.I mean, why not get more players
if you just don't think that attwenty three maybe there's someone elite left.
I don't know if Chup Robinson wouldhave been there, I don't know if
(10:33):
that Toledo corner is still there.Pretty and Mitchell, I think some of
these players are gone. And ifthat's his perception. The only thing I've
had a few people say is isn'ta little early to do the trade?
Yes, that's why a lot ofpeople thought it's a precursor to another trade
and acquisition of a receiver perhaps,But you know, I have not heard
that, and you know, obviouslyI'm checking, and you know I don't
(10:54):
know everything. You know, likeI appreciate your comments at the start of
the the call, but you know, I would say, for most of
us that are doing reporting, you'renot gonna know everything. I mean,
these guys they're involved in it,you know, and then really you know,
immersed in it. We're just tryingto do our best to keep up.
(11:15):
And you know it's a we havevery very pumbling profession because you know,
you're trying to do the first draftof history. Well it's all happening
in real time. I mean,I'm old enough that I remember when we
had no social media. You hada whole day to give a story.
Yeah, not so much in themold day. Well no, you better.
(11:37):
You got to know it in fiveseconds and then you're just gonna you
just have to do your best. But I would say there's a lot of
things out there. Not everything that'sout there is accurate. That's been said
about the receivers and who's available.I hope to clear up some of that
about guys. I'm hearing that, you know, maybe the trade talks are
(11:58):
a little trade speculat and you knowit's just speculation. Uh you know,
Yeah, a lot of people wantto come here. I think that with
Justin Jefferson was kind of a comeget me kind of plea. Probably that's
how he meant it. You know, he was here playing softball with just
crowd and so was Digs. They'reall on the field and hop the hop
(12:18):
and they'll tank as a coach checkcouple weeks. Yeah, remember that we're
brother. Time is of the essence. We got a slide I problem.
I wish I could keep you over, man and we could talk some more.
But let me get out of hereand uh fulfill my obligations go.
I talked to Mastros and some rocketsas well, the Great Aaron Wilson on
the Texas beat for us at AaronWilson Underscore NFL. Brother, well appreciate
(12:41):
it. Will be monitoring your socialfor all our Texans needs and updates.
Brother, we appreciate it. Thankyou all right. A Doves Live on
