NFL Insider Wilson Says Stefon Diggs Has 'To Work Within' Texans Structure

KPRC reporter Aaron Wilson joins Next Up to break down the Buffalo Bills trading four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. The Bills received a 2025 second-round pick from the Texans. Diggs is a "great deep threat," and "he's good after the catch," Wilson said. However, concern has been raised over Diggs' off-the-field attitude and comments. Diggs will "have to work within [the Texans] structure" and it will be a "very competitive training camp."

This time it all comes together andNick he Saria and Brandon Bean do some
business this morning, and you knowit's an NFL scouting combine. I saw

Brandon Bean and he's talking with StephanDiggs's agent and they're at the bar and
it looked like a tenth conversation.And it was no secret that Stefan did
want out of Buffalo. He washere recently for the Cactus Jack Softball Classic
Softball tvch right now catching passes fromhim. And the roots of these trades,

you know, they take a lotof time. But I would imagine
face to face, you know,we'll hear later that they were probably working
on this all the way back tothe owner's meetings when they were in the
same building at the Rich Carlton.So you look at you know these things,
how they come together. You've gota player with an requireable contract.
Nick Consarrata created the cap space,and there's still enough cap space for a

Nico Collins extension, which is alsoin the agenda. But in the short
term, you now have a widereceiver corps and an offense that includes Stefon
Diggs, Nico Collins, tank Nell, Dalton Schultz, Joe Mixon with the
trigger man DJ Stroud, Global QuarterbacksNFF. So, I mean it's more
than just good on paper, it'sactually good. It's the big thing is

just the distribution of targets. Andyou know, Stefan is a guy that's
very happy when he gets the footballa lot, so they'll have to accommodate
that and he'll have to work withintheir structure because he's not the only good
wide receiver on this team. Yeah, it's not just good on paper,
it's good on Madden too. Eric, I'm gonna be fired up that two
k Texans. What do you thinkthis means for Robert Woods. We know

he's on the nine point seven milliondollar deal for this year, we know
they could save about five million inmoving on from him. What does that
mean for him? And how doyou think the competition for four, five
and six wide receivers kind of isgoing to shape up here? Great question,
Chris, Yeah, I mean Idon't really see a super defined role
for him. I thought he gavethem a lot as a blocker and when

he was healthy, you know,I think he did a good job as
a receiver for them. But youknow, do they really need that veteran
guy when you have also Noel Brown? You know, and I think about
obviously the top three are pretty established, So what does that be for Noah
Brown? John Mitchi the third andXavier Hutchinson's So it's a real fight,

you know, not including Steven Simsis a talented returner that re signed.
They're going to have, I believe, a very competitive training camp and it's
going to be just sort of whatdo you prefer? Because any of those
players are good enough to be onthe roster, and you might even have
the possibility of a trade at somepoint. You know, you could look
at some of these players. Fornow, I don't think it's like immediate

subtraction until we have to get ridof him. They can afford him,
they have the room, and theycan create more gap space if they extend
stuff on digs, which would obviouslymake him happy if they were some more
money in his pocket. Right now, he's due about eighteen million, and
by eighteen and a half and thenI think eighteen million in twenty twenty five.

But yeah, I think it wouldmake sense from cat management and from
a player happiness standpoint. Do somebusiness doesn't have to be today, But
yeah, I wouldn't be surprised ifthat was going to be part of the
equation at some point, just likethey did with Joe Mixon. They very
quickly addressed his contract that was actuallydone twenty four hours and at stayed quiet

before or he did his press conference, so when he stepped up to the
mic that day, his veal hadalready done. So, you know,
sometimes some things that are secret andhappened, you know, without people knowing
them immediately. And I think that'ssome of the confidentiality of some of these
feelings and things that ma Cassera's involvedin. But you look at the structure.

Yeah. I mean, obviously,some of these players that we've written
and talked a lot about, youknow, they're not going to be central
figures in the offense, even ifthey have great training camps. You know,
we know the pecking order. Youalready see Tank Dell running these routes
with his trainer, Defonte Diamond andworking out with Justin Allen. Feels great

and he's going to make a fullrecovery if he has not already. I
think that they're loaded. As HannaMcNair said at the owners meetings, you
want to have high expectations. Youdon't just want to have a wing season
or make the playoffs. They're obviouslymaking a run. They want to be
a super Bowl team. Aaron,what can you tell us your contacts in
Buffalo? I was saying, Andthis is happened in real time as Gordon

and I are talking about the report, and when we started looking at it,
I said, wait a minute,Buffalo was getting ready to eat thirty
one point three in dead money thisyear because this is not opposed June one
situation, I said, Gordon,that's going to be like top fifteen all
time. Come to find out,thirty one million in dead money is the

highest non quarterback dead hit ever andit actually ranks six all time of all
positions. Why was Buffalo and BrandonBean willing to move on from Stefan and
basically give him to the Texans?You know, you know, not being
in Buffalo, I'm not as privyto the you know. Ever, in

the workings of their locker room,I had heard some things that has had
many that there was unhappiness. Youknow. He did an excuse from the
manage for a mini camp and Seawanmcdermot's at the time, he was very
concerned about that. A day later, apologies made some sort of misunderstanding.
They try to smooth things over andthey say that it's been resolved during the

season. He Stefon Diggs and Ipassed the buck and said, hey,
you know, I'm professional, I'mnot doing anything the way. One writer
up there, Timmy Graham, whoI think is very good, described as
sort of a microaggression, sort ofpassive aggressive type of things. There would
be some social media posts. Therewas one yesterday, probably with the trade

already being on the verge of beingexecuted from step On. But yeah,
sort of a mixed bag where hehad great success, especially his first year
there, incredible success catching passes fromJosh Allen. But yeah, it seemed
to be unhappy. Got unhappy inMinnesota. And you know, I know
stuff on a little bit from hisMaryland days when I was up in DC

and I watched Nick Sterio. Actuallyhe was the Pro day quarterback for this
Pro Day because there was no otherquarterback to throw to Stefan Diggs. I
thought NIX funded pretty well that theyBill Belichick is in the house. A
cold, windy day in College Park, Maryland. I drove down from Baltimore
to watch Stefan put on a showand he did. And now years later,

Nick has Landingham. I think it'sall situational. Did he look pretty
happy at Mini Made Park during theTravis Scott Softball Classic hanging out with DJ
Stroud and all those guys you sawjustin Jefferson, DeAndre Hopkins, King Dell

and Tunsul and Titus how and allthese different guys are jumping in and
how excited they even How do youthink they're going to use him though,
Aaron like, how do you seethis mix of of him, Tag,
Dell and and Collins working out well? They all have different strengths. I
think that he's a great deep threat, but he can also be a move

to chains. He's intermediate to thedeepestlevels of the field, and I think
he'll be a big play guy.I think they'll do some things to try
to get to put on his hands. He's good after the catch. He's
also someone that will be physical andblock when you want him to. I
