(00:00):
For more intail on what the Texasdid over the weekend, let's go to
our Texans insider one, Aaron Wilson, who I believe was over at NRG
on Friday night and covering the draftobviously on Saturday as well. And Wilson,
good morning to you. Hopefully gotsome rest given that the draft has
now come and gone. How youfeeling? Man More importantly, how were
(00:21):
the Texans feeling about the team they'veassembled via the draft? Yeah? Good?
More to Yeah, resetting after thedraft and kind of looking at next
steps for the Texans. I thinkthe Texans are very happy with their draft.
If you look at what it was, it was the sign of progress
and a subtle way because you're settingyourself up for future contracts. If you
(00:44):
look at some of the players thatthey've drafted, the roles may not be
as defined as they will be inone to two years, but I feel
like they did draft for the future, and it's a sign of an organization
that didn't really need to draft forglaring needs, so they were able to
just make some logical depth moves andgiven the fact that they had such a
(01:11):
high injury rate last season, morelikely we'll see some of those players you
know out there lined up before theTexans and roles beyond special teams or mop
up duty. I look at,you know, the opportunities for them,
and you know, Kamara Lassiter probablyhas the best chance where I think he'll
be in a competitive situations. We'llsee how does he stack up against Jeff
(01:33):
Okuda and CJ. Henderson As anoutside corner he'll challenge. I think at
Nicol as well. I think they'regoing to give him some mook. He
hasn't played a lot of nickel, but he's such a good tackler that he
might be able to contribute in thatway. And then you know, Camon
Bullocks is a good insurance policy,as is Blake Fisher if you have injuries.
(01:53):
They had injuries at both those positions, safety and offensive tackles. So
I look at it as a signsof a maturing franchise where you've got a
lot of frontline starters what you neededwith some quality depth, and you know
some of those contracts will be expiring, you know at safety with Jimmy Ward
(02:15):
the final year of his deal,so you know they're we'll see they're doing
some advanced planning eron in your opinion, from what you heard how things played
out in that second round. Youknow, we know that the Texans had
any defensive tackle. Well, wesee a run four d tackles going five
picks before their pick picking, andthen suddenly a little bit of a run
on corners. Cooper de Gene goesat forty cool and Kidstree goes at forty
(02:38):
one, and then they go KamariLasser. The Saints did trade up,
jumping ahead of them to get koolaid. From what you've heard was their
interest there in the Alabama dB.We know that you knows a ton of
Alabama plug guys already on this roster, and Demko's and Alabama guy himself,
were they eyeing McKinstry, and maybethat's why the Saints jumped ahead of them.
I don't know the Saint seventy advancedknowledge of that. They just want
(03:01):
the player. But for the Texans, yeah, he's a very highly graded
guy and I think he would havebeen under heavy consideration at that selection.
They were also looking at Terry andArnold when they were looking at trade up
scenarios, so they had interest inboth Alabama corners. Wind up with a
Georgia corner, but it was gonnabe an sec corner one way or another,
(03:22):
Chris. They were looking at allthose guys and just couldn't get it
done. Nick alluded to this thedifficulty of the trade scenarios, and you
know it takes two. You know, the teams have to be willing to
trade with you. It's not Iknow some people are like, why don't
you just trade up? Well, the other teams want the same position.
(03:42):
They don't care that you are offeringsome things. Sometimes they just want the
players that they prefer. And Ithink that's one thing that a lot of
people. It's just a real simpleconcept that some people sort to ignore it
via social media or maybe in someother media. You have to have a
cooperation from the other team, andif they don't want to do it,
(04:03):
the free country, and you know, they have to act in their own
best interests. So that's what everybodydoes in the draft, or at least
attempts to. And the Texans youjust go to the next guy. And
I think most would agree that koolAid was the higher rated corner, but
that doesn't mean that Kamara last isnot a good corner. Doesn't say the
defense I think he does. Y'yexcited about him. He doesn't really the
(04:26):
forty tenement scares people a little bit, but he did have an injury.
I'm told that he's more of like, really a four to five guy,
not a four six five guy.So normal speed, not great speed,
but normal speed and able to keepup with the players on the field.
Two things that are related. Bythe way, this is Aaron Wilson our
Texans inside of joining fleet and courtinghere on next up. Two things that
(04:50):
are related. People have questioned specificallyin Day two, rounds two and three
of the draft, as it pertainsto the Texans, they did not address
defensive line. I think there's astoryline there, hopefully you can give background.
And then they elect to go withBlake Fisher with that second pick in
(05:11):
the second round. They're at pickfifty nine, the right tackle from Notre
Dame. For some that's kind ofeye catching and raises some eyebrows given the
contractual situation up tight as Howard andLarry MITNSL. So just your observation,
why didn't they go defensive tackle witheither of those picks in the on Day
two and then specifically Blake Fisher goingwith him. What does that mean in
(05:34):
terms of what the offensive line willlook like in twenty four right rout to
debits to tackle aspect of this, their feelings about what they have at the
other of d tackle spot in termsof fully fied tssee Tim Settle Junior.
They feel more settled there than Iwas to the same base and the press,
(05:56):
so they feel a little differently thanwhat people consider the depth chart expect
is the most depth charts. You'renow going to have a Pro Bowl or
Pro Bowl potential type player at everyspot, and something that's kind of unreal
estate expectation that they're going to havefour all star guys that all make a
lot of money, like the ideathat they'll have Eric Armstead, Dinaica,
(06:18):
Audrey will Anderson Junior, and NeilHunter all playing for fairly big money.
Not just really how things get allocated, but the detackle market. A lot
of the de tackles, you know, there were some question marks on some
of these guys that were still left, and so they did wind up getting
one later that still had seven sacks. We had some Marcus Smith has some
(06:42):
potential be a good rotation guy.I just don't think they saw a surefire
starter from a character or play standpointthat overrideed what they thought they should do
at offensive tackle and looking a littledeeper, oh tackle, you know,
larming console veteran player, you know, right around thirty years old, Titus
Howard coming off of pateller tendon andACL damage surgery went well outlook is good,
(07:12):
but broke his hand and injured hisknee within a few months of each
other. So some hard luck lastseason. You have a little bit of
injury history there, and you knowhe needs to have a healthy and good
season or they'll be looking very hardat what is his status heading into the
third year of the deal. Youknow, So they've paid him a lot
(07:34):
of money. They need him tobe healthy and him if you sluidify the
right tackle spot. So they're planningahead, and then both guys got hurt.
So obviously it's more of a commentary. They didn't pay a lot of
money on Charlie heck You know, they probably don't feel like Charlie heck is
we do more than just sort ofhold it down. They don't have a
George. George fan played really well. That kind of went under the radar.
(07:56):
I thought fans play, went healthyas a stand in for Titus,
So this is a good offensive tackle. It was a blue ship recruit for
the Irish and played very well. And they're really well coached in Notre Dame
lineman. You saw that last yearwith Jared Patterson. They're technically sound,
so Old obviously was one of thebest offense line. So they felt good
(08:18):
about Fisher. I understand the logic. I understand it doesn't excite the fans
because they probably wanted to have asurefire sort of defensive tackle. But you
look at the Demandra sweat, there'ssome serious problems there. It wasn't just
the one incident. There's a patternand it's sort of it is serious and
it concerns teams. Not just theweight, but there are a lot of
(08:39):
issues with him. Michael Hall Juniorhad some maturity issues that were pretty well
known. He did visit here. One of the reasons he took some many
trips is because the teams had someconcerns about him. So there's things.
Sometimes there's more. They're deeper aboutthese big defensive linemen and it's didn't feel
comfortable. So they went with Ithink like a safer, more sound kind
(09:01):
of pick with Blake Fisher, realhigh character, healthy, good lineman,
and he's valuable for the future andmaybe now if somebody ever gets hurt again.
So I'll go with Aaron Wilson.Aaron, did you have a u
O? I guess fill us inon the situation with Tank Dell because I
saw your piece you had up yesterday. I mean that kind of took us
(09:22):
all by surprise. You know, what's the latest there about Tank? A
couple hours before the statement, andwas able to verify a lot of the
information just from some various sources thatyou know, Tank was not you know,
seriously hurt, thank god, andhe was you know, attending this
(09:48):
party, and he was an innocentbystander. And you know, guy after
an altercation that he's not involved in, starts shooting people. Really a miracle
that a mass shooting and not onefatality. That's the guy's younger guy and
lost his head or whatever. Whoknows what he was thinking. And you
(10:11):
know, see any police statements aboutmotivation or the person's background, but I
mean you can only imagine like thekind of mentality and how did he get
a gun into this place that commandalive? So some serious questions is about
security and safety. But I don'tthink that you know, Tank was back
(10:31):
home. He's from Daytona Beach, which is nearby, visiting his mother and
trip home. Tanks a very highcharacter, great guy and you know,
a long and strong time and he'sjust you know, very very lucky.
I was told again today he isextremely fortunate because it could have gone a
much different direction for Tank's health andlife, and so he's just lucky,
(10:58):
lucky, lucky that he he's okay. Uh, he'll be basically cleared very
soon. He's already out of thehospital. I don't think it's going to
affect his football activity at all.I think he'll be able to participate in
this off season. He's made agreat comeback from broken fibula, so outcome
(11:20):
for him is very positive. Itjust it could have been entirely different.
And I think that has given alot of people you know, close to
him, just a lot of concernand they're just you know, there's still
sort of I think this big waveof relief and also processing the emotions of
what could have been. Uh soyet, been getting a lot of messages
(11:43):
from friends and people and talking withsome people folks that know him and this,
they're all just very happy and youknow, overjoyed. The Tank is
okay. He's back in Houston. He traveled uh back to Easton yesterday and
so he he's obviously to be ableto fly to be out of the hospitals.
I think speaks to ILMs, becauseyou don't do that when you're seriously
(12:07):
injured. And he is not.He should be just fine. Good deal.
That is the update from the Texansand their draft elections, as well
as the status of Tank Dale, who unfortunately had some wounds. If you
will are scared there with a massshooting in Florida. For more intel on
(12:28):
what takes place with the Houston Texansand around the National Football League, the
great Aaron Wilson. He is atAaron Wilson Underscore NFL. Appreciate you dropping
by, buddy, Thank you somuch. Great talking to you guys.
Thank all right, my man,
