Now what's next? Next up?It's the next man up, next stop,
the next step, take the nextstep, next up, stop next
next stop? This see wants tobe next? This is next up with
Tad Norfleeten Chris Gordy. Let's seewhat's next, next next. It's a

(00:24):
Thursday here on Sports Talk seven ninety. That means next up. We're rocking
and rolling. Appreciate the Sean SalisburyShow. Each and every weekday morning six
to ten am. We wake upwith our resident quarterback, Sean Salisbury,
Brian Lolima and Emmanuel for the nexttwo hours. Though the crew is with
me. That's Chris Gordy, he'sright there. There's Connordy McGovern he's over

(00:44):
there behind the glass getting ready tolock in, concentrate focus. Best show
we've ever done coming up right nowtoday is your voice could have joined us
too. My voice is just fine, sir. I was on with Nate
Griffin of Fox twenty six this morning. He said, my voice is beautiful,
Thank you, as did the ladiesthat were anchored in the news segment.
Shout out to the ladies. Huhthey called you. They invited me
back, Gordy kind of I'm aman of the people, Gordy, and

(01:08):
speaking to other people. Many ofyou were watching and or attending men A
May Park last night where the Astros. Yeah, Gordy, that's six or
seven Astros win shut out from theValdays, looking more like from the Astros
again winter six of the last seven. I'm pulling up the standards now because

(01:29):
for whatever reason, my computer froze. Ah. Here we go, Gordon.
Where they in the standings. Astroscurrently sit five and a half,
same distance back as the Oakland Athletics. Oakland has a slightly better winning percentage,
so that's why Oakland is slotted thirdplace in the AO West for now.
I never know how that works. If one more winning, one more
loss, it's like, okay, you shouldn't just wash out. Don't know

(01:55):
how that works out. I'm surethere's some decimals in there somewhere. What
I do know is the Astros haveon four games in a row. There
Seattle at the top of the ALWest, and this team is looking and
performing much more like the Astros wehave come to know. We will discuss
Astros with our weekly guests. FormerAstro himself currently a Space City home network.
I got Brian Bogus Sevic is gonnadrop by in about twenty seven minutes.

(02:19):
We'll hang out with Bogy and we'lllearn more about what has caused this
turnaround. Who can we praise?Certainly there's updates as it pertains to Ronill
Blanco as he was suspended as heanticipated he would be. I want to
get you guys thoughts on that westart to show, however, with the
talk around not just Houston, butaround the country, as last night,

(02:40):
in a two hour spectacle of whichI didn't watch a single moment I was
on social media. However, inreal time, the Texans twenty twenty four
schedule has been released. Gentlemen,I'm currently looking at a press release from
the team. There are several tidbitsthat I would like to parse through.
Here. The phones are already lightingup. There's my brother Al on the

(03:00):
south side. There's Brandon and Houston. People want to talk some Texas Gordon
right here on seven ninety with realTexas Talk and listen seven one three,
two point two five seven ninety. My overall observation coming to you, Gordy
is this, it's giving the opponentsthat we knew overall, it's not as

(03:21):
bad as I thought it would be. When you play someone is as important
as who you play. I willget to the dynamic and how I break
down the schedule, but just somethingquick from you, Gordy, schedule comes
out. I know you watch allthe videos that the team's put out and
your ranking stuff and all of that. Yeah, schedule release video. Yeah,

(03:43):
it's awful, good zero I watthey well, so many of them
are corny, but some are prettyfunny and creative. I'll tell you this,
there's more entertainment value than that thanthe damn ESPN broadcast. My god,
like, well, let's go toSean McVeigh. Now, Sean will
break down your schedule for it.It's like, oh God, like,
just why is this two hours? But that's why I'm glad they asked her.

(04:04):
Is the point I had that goingas well, But sir, you
know the the interesting part. AdamWexler was like he was headfirst into all
this stuff the last few days dissectingwhat and wex said, I think either
YESTERDA or the day before. Hesaid, I think they're either going to
open on the road to Tennessee orIndianapolis. He's like, I'm looking at
the how the schedule is gonna shapeup. I think they're gonna they're gonna

(04:26):
have a conference game right out ofthe gates, and they're gonna be on
the road. And that's exactly whathappens. You return on the road at
Indianapolis where last season's regular season ended. That basically felt like an effective playoff
game. Remember that was you know, you had to win that one to
try to win the division. Andthen luckily the what the Jags or the
Titans helped us out beat the Jagssomething so and then they asked the Texans

(04:49):
won the AFC South, but youknow, you get to return there.
I am curious. It's Anthony Richardsonhealthy. Now that's you know, what
what do they look like? Butthen after Chicago Minnesota basically standing, you
get two rookie quarterbacks in the firsttwo weeks, and you could almost include
Anthony Richardson in that because he playedone two games last year. I think
he played parts of four games whateverit was. So I mean it's like

(05:12):
it's like an MLB when a guycomes up and makes a couple starts,
he doesn't register yet, so thenext year he comes back and he's a
rookie Yeah, So that's kind ofwhat what Anthony Richardson is. So you
could almost look at as you facethree semi rookie quarterbacks the first three weeks
out of the gates, and thenyou get Jacksonville. I mean, you
got a chance, you got areal chance to start four. Though you
mentioned the Indianapolis Colts game, I'mlooking at the release from the Texans.

(05:36):
We remember last year the Texans openedup on the road at Baltimore Week one,
Demico Ryan's first game obviously CJ andthe rest of the rookies. Houston
opens up the twenty four campaign onthe road yet again, this time to
the Colts. As you mentioned Septemberthe eighth, marking the team's four season
opener against the Indianapolis Colts and theirfirst time playing the cod on the road

(06:00):
in week one. So we've seenthe Colts here in Houston will take this
thing on the road. Interesting,so they they've never opened that start there.
So let me come back to myoriginal tweet that I put out in
just scanning the schedule in real time, there were a few things that stood
out for me, and I knowJJ Watt posted it's in our group tech

(06:23):
somewhere jj Watt posted how he looksat the schedule. First thing, game
schedule comes out. First thing Ilook for, who's the first opponent.
We now know that it's the Indianapoliscoach. Okay, cool. The next
thing I look for when is thebye week? We find out that the
bye week is the latest it's beenin Week fourteen in Texan's team history.

(06:46):
It's week fourteen. Now, ordinarilyI would be hot about that. The
reason I'm not hot about that isbecause look at the opponents in December.
You're going to need a week offbefore you go play Miami, Kansas City,
and Baltimore three games in fifteen days. If there was three brutal opposing

(07:10):
and the opponents too, all playoffteams from the previous season. So if
that was a part where I feltlike the NFL schedule makers did the Texans
of the service, it's right here. They don't deserve that in December.
Well, they all have to playthose guys. The only thing I thought
of, and Sean and Brian broughtit up to, is that that Baltimore

(07:30):
game is the second last game, second last game of the season. Let's
just say things go the Texans waythis year. Yep, you have a
little bit of cushion. You know, maybe you've maybe you've got a three
three game lead the NFC South andyou know, or you know like maybe
that maybe that game isn't as I'mthinking going the other way, I'm thinking
Baltimore is gonna be so damn goodthat maybe by the time we get there,

(07:53):
Baltimore and Lamars like and we've seenthem do that. John Hobball's like,
yeah, we're good. We'll sendout whoever their backup quarterback is,
and you guys have at it,so maybe we won't be looking at Lamar.
Another observation that I have as Ilook at my tweet here week fourteen,
by three games in fifteen days isbrutal. We'll see just one cold

(08:13):
weather game, and it's the Decembergame. I'll get the date here at
the at Kansas City. What dateis twenty first? Yeah, December twenty
first at Kansas City. And it'snoon in Kansas City. So at least
you get I mean, it's gonnabe cold, but at least it's not
as cold as it would be anarrowhead if that were a seventh fifteen thirty
kid. January fifth and Tennessee.I know we don't have a time yet
for that, but that that willlikely. It could be snow in Nashville

(08:39):
that time of year, so uhso that one could be. But yeah,
in November, you're in Dallas indoors, you're in Jacksonville, which you
know never gets cold. The otherthing is sun to me saying eleven of
your seventeen games, and it's improvement. We've got primetime games, but eleven
of your seventeen games are stupid Sundaynoon games. Again, I just I
just like last year, I feltlike every game was Sunday and noon right

(09:03):
like almost every week. Uh.It just feels like this team, like
we can't get a couple three thirtygames at an RG like one. I'm
extra tail getting in. I can'tbitch and moan for this simple fact.
The Texans did not have any originallyscheduled primetime games or nationally televised games a
year ago. Zero. I'm sorry, that was a Thursday at Carolina.

(09:26):
Yes, everybody gets one nationally TELEVIIgame. I apologize. So you go,
you get the at Carolina coming offthe bat and then the last week
the Tennessee. So originally scheduled. It was just won the Panthers game on
Thursday night this year, and sothere's this debate is it prime time?
Is it national? Look? Isee six games where the Texans gonna be

(09:48):
the only team playing. I've gotChicago Week two, the home opening here
at NRG, that Sunday Night football. I've got Thursday week, nine,
week ten, Week eleven. That'sThursday night, Sunday night, Monday night
in a row. So that's fourI've got I'm sorry, the Chiefs game
that we just mentioned on the twentyfirst, and then that's four days later

(10:09):
we get the Christmas game versus theRavens. I count six times the Texans
are going to be primetime, nationallytelevised. That's a drastic improvement from a
year ago. Quick correction, theydid not have a Thursday game last year.
Looking at it was that game.Oh, they were all Sundays.
I thought they had one national televisor maybe they promise you'll get one.

(10:31):
And that's another reason that they flexedthe Indianapolis game. Yeah, now,
I remember two years ago they hadthey played at Philly and it was funny
because we were in New York,or we were in Philly for the the
Phillies Phillies Astros World Series. Andwe were literally watching on computers at uh
Texans hosting the Eagles. That itwas funny everybody that was watching them.

(10:52):
But yeah, no good. Imean c J. Stroud deserves this team
deserves more primetime games and deserve morenational attention. I do believe the NFL
dropped the ball. I will tellyou why other observations about the Texans schedule
as I look and pass through ithere. I will also give you my
prediction how many games the Texans willwin? My stan Fleet prediction. The

(11:15):
stanalytics will kick in at least thisis my one dot. Oh, we'll
see how many I come up withby the time we get out of training
camp. This is next up ona Thursday Legendary KB and Me and back
up now down Door Fleets and ChrisGordyon's next up on Sports Talk seven ninety

(11:39):
with our expectations and what I whatI ask of our guys is man you
when the schedule comes out, youcan't consume the entire thing like no matter
how you cook it up, wheneverthe games are man is we can only
control one day at a time, right, one game at a time.
So it's truly our expectations are aboutfocusing on the process and continue to grow,

(12:03):
develop, continue to get better eachand every day. If our team
comes together right, become a verytight team, connected team, and we
truly hone in on the small detailsand the fundamentals and techniques, and we
get better every single day. Youknow, with the expectations, will be
exactly where we're supposed to be.Right. Everybody wants to go get it

(12:26):
all, but you don't get thereovernight. It just takes dial in preparation,
dial in right, deliberate work everysingle day. Head coach of the
Texas to mee Ko Ryans he wason the Rich Eisen Show talking to the
fan base, talking also to histeam. Hey, guys, we and
I understand like we as fans andmembers of the media are going to look

(12:48):
at this schedule and make it abigger deal than they are now. Don't
get it twisted. The players aregoing to look at the schedule, and
each player kind of has their thoughtprocess. I think I'm mostly in alignment
with how players think. First game, bye week, cold weather, of
which the Texans only have one atKansas City December twenty first, thank god,

(13:11):
and then you start looking at okay, nationally televised, how much travel
the NFL did the Texans a solidDo you know that the Texans, Gordy
only go on the road back toback just once they go at New England
at Green Bay in October, Sothat's it. Every other week is at

(13:31):
least a home matchup. So we'regood with that. Yeah, that's that's
that's that's good. I mean,maybe you'd prefer to have a couple of
weeks. I mean, you doget what the twenty ninth through October sixth
of back to back home games, but yeah, it's gonna be. It's
gonna basically be almost home away, home away, home away, And I'm
cool with that because you don't wantto get caught up with getting your team,

(13:54):
especially late in the year, beingon the road, flying from and
it's the beauty of being here inHouston and you kind of equal distant from
bol coasts. But like you know, especially if you're a East Coast or
West Coast team having to fly allover the place. So Texans don't have
to worry about that. This year. Mentioned something to Miko, this season
is really going to challenge Demko interms of his preparation of his squad.

(14:18):
The Texans are going to play ona Monday, Sun, Sunday, Monday,
Saturday, Wednesday. You got fourdifferent Thursday and Thursday. So this
thing here, Domico is going tohave to make sure that the guys are
locked in. Well, the bigone is so week eight, you play
the Colts here at home at noon, and then you've got the Thursday night

(14:41):
game in New York. What doyou know? Do they do the thing
where maybe they go Tuesday, youknow, Tuesday, let's go up to
New York or you know what Imean? Or do we stay at home?
Do we get into normal over teating, stay at home, stay at
home and then go from here toNew York, stay at home and endo.
Yeah, that's what I would say. I do also appreciate how about
that three consecutive primetime games for theTexans that would be weeks nine, ten,

(15:07):
and eleven, the Jets, theLions, and the Cowboys. Speaking
of the Cowboys, shame on you, NFL. This was too easy.
Oh for Thanksgiving? The Texans Cowboysmake it easier for your fan base geographically,
travel, the interest and intrigue youngbudding star. What is that?
Is he the guy? Is henot? Is he gonna be retained?

(15:28):
Everything that goes on with Jerra, the nature of these two teams, it
was perfect. It was right therein your hands. At least they gave
it a Monday night football and theychose to make it fair Sunday game.
No, I'd rather have Thanksgiving thana regular Monday night game. Did they
miss out on the Texans Buffalo becausewe talked about that being one of the
big storylines. I think it's aregular Newton game at Energy. I don't

(15:52):
know that. To me, thatwas not rated one of the high The
Baltimore game was rated high for me. Kansas City storyline of Cowboys, it
gets us far. That's one dude, like everybody else, didn't give a
damn. Buffalo is another opponent likeDiggs, as great as he is at
his respect to profession. It's notlike Digs ain't Jerry Rice well, but
the do that they're both expected tobe two of the better times and it

(16:14):
is too. And I saw theMVP odds came out. Both Josh Allen
and c. J. Stroud landedin the top four. I think they
were joined by Joss Burrow and PatrickMahomes. How's Josh allow An MVP?
Who's he throwing to? Uh?I don't know Al has been holding.
I tell you what, let's doAl Now, I got a couple of
things I want to get to Al. Get in here, brother, Yeah,

(16:37):
I just want to touch on acouple of things. Shout out to
the scrolls and staying when I've beenin. He had to rows some honey's
left hand that goes in his gloveand the way he switched you alluded to
it caused some stickiness, but fromwhat I was told that it should be
on your right on. They don'tmind that. So that's what I was

(16:59):
talking about yesterday. I wouldn't cutmy throat for that. But I'm glad
your little calm today. I wasjust saying, you know, when a
spot is looking at the game andall that there, he just made a
mini mistake. That's on him.Blancer got to eat that, you know
what I mean? Learn on that. You got to put it on.
So maybe he was overheighted, butif I'm glad it wasn't nothing outside of
you know, pulling hands and drugssuch as some kind of I'll tell you

(17:22):
what. I'll tell you what wewill. We will revisit that conversation after
we talked to Bogus seven at tenthirty. Because I'm not where you are,
I do respect your opinion. Tellme somebody this taxing schedule though,
I love it because the first tengames, I think the best defense we
play is the New York Jets defensewise, out of the first ten and

(17:45):
on the back end with Miami inBaltimore or to Kansas City. I think
both of them got the forty nineers, so they're the most physical team
for US. Baltimore forty nine ersI think on defense, and then Kansas
City as this secondary defender. Ithink that was the best defensive player on
their team last year. Snead andhe and our division. But it's cool

(18:07):
than Chris Jones is the best defensiveplayer. But Sneid is a good no.
I was talking about last year ChrisJones, Chris Jones. Chris Jones
was not saying, dam we alreadyknow what CJ. We already know.
But I'm talking about Sneid on theback end because we're gonna throw the ball.
Yeah, got you one last take? I think you were right,

(18:27):
y'all hit on Baltimore if they comeout to Gage Schmoke, and we might
not. I ain't even seen Lamore. I line Patrick Maones because if they
win a division and Clinton playoffs byat the end, they might sit them.
And I listened to take my manon the south side. Appreciate the
call. There we will talk somestrongs. Brian Bogi Savic analysts of the

(18:47):
Astros space hitting on network coming upabout five minutes, I go to real
quick from me. The other observationsI had about the schedule. I'm trying
to find my risal tweet. Sowhile we mentioned back to back only once
they go back to back on theroad, we mentioned the three primetime games.
We mentioned how tough it is atthe end of the season. I

(19:10):
mentioned the disappointment about Dallas. Whatwas my other take here? We'll go
back to mind. What do youthink of the Do you think that's an
east like getting Caleb Williams. Yes, it's Sunday night, prime time week
two, But like getting getting CalebWilliams so quick early in the year,
and we're gonna assume JJ McCarthy startingin Minnesota. If not, it's who

(19:30):
they signed, Sam Darnold or whatever. Like, I think that works in
your favor. If you if youbeat the Colts, if you take if
you can start the season off oneand oh and beat Anthony Richardson India,
which I have that as one ofthem, you are, you're gonna be
three A oh it feels like soit's funny you say that. I I'm
not big. I don't think KaylerWilliams is this world beat. Everybody say
it's abough to beat. I justdon't Is he a solid player, yes,

(19:51):
but I don't think Cayler Williams isgonna have the year this year that
CJ. Shroud had last year.I don't know that he's that guy.
Maybe I'm proven to be wrong.I have some time to make maybe move
off of that. Well. Eventhink of CJ last year, he was
not He was not great. Imean he was he round. He got
a lot of his yards in thatsecond half against Baltimore, and then the
same thing with Indy. They weredown by so much. He picked up

(20:14):
a lot of his yards in thesecond half. We call him garbage yards.
But it really wasn't until that gamein Jacksonville Week three that what oh
okay, the Jacksonville game did alot. I think for just as a
team in general, we went okay, this this might be we might be
onto something. And then really thePittsburgh game they dominated so much. Oh
oh no, that's that's the zoh stand. They can't play JJ.

(20:34):
Excuse me, TJ. Whtt he'sgonna dominate. They won't be able to
get the ball off. You gottaeat that one, Gordon. Oh yeah,
all right, So here was myTJ didn't show up that day.
Here was my other one. TheTexans don't face a playoff team from the
twenty three season until Week five.It happens to be Buffalo. The Texans
will face seven playoff teams from ayear ago. The majority of those will

(20:56):
take place in November and December.I have the Texans out the gate on
paper, based on projections, Ihave the Texans as seven and one going
into the Jets game. I havethem losing at Green Bay. I also
have them losing at the Jets.So in that in September October, I've

(21:18):
got the Texans. That's six seven, that's seven and two November December.
This thing is gonna get ugly andget your wins as early as many as
you ken I've got the Texans losingat Dallas. I got the Texans losing
at Jacksonville coming out of a byeintil Domico shows me different. I didn't
like how they came out to buylast year, and that atrocity in Carolina

(21:38):
got them losing here versus Miami.I have us losing at Kansas City,
and then I have us losing theBaltimore game. Unless Baltimore's got it locked
up. If Lamar Jackson plays,Texans lose. The interesting part you bring
up to Indianapolis and Jacksonville both barelymissed the playoffs, right because the Texans
won by tiebreaker, But they wereboth nine and eight last year, so

(21:59):
they're both teams. But to yourpoint, Buffalo is gonna be worse this
year because of all they lost infree agency. At least that's what they
look like on paper, and theNew England stinks. There's a realistic chance
you are six and zero going intoGreen Bay. That's what I have.
Realistic, that's what I have.I have six and gonna play out that
way, but I don't know that. Again, these are all winnable games
early. I've got the Texans recordon paper right now ten and seven,

(22:22):
which matches their marked from a seasonago. The production could look better even
though the record may look the same, and vice versa. I'll elaborate on
that when we get into the eleveno'clock hour to Jonathan and Alexander of the
Chronicle. He's gonna drop by andwe'll go game by game with him and
have some fun with that. However, let's talk some strolls on the other
side. Brian Bogus seven for aweekly assessment of where we are with Stros

(22:48):
Baseball, your home of Astros righthere on KB and me host this ex
exclusive Astros segment on Sports Talk sevenninety is brought to you by Moral Mechanical.
Yes, let's go. Hey,let's go, guys. You're damn
right. We hot in here asall the Astros right now winning six of
the last seven. What does thatgo to four in a row? Yeah,

(23:11):
five and a half behind them.Oh, I shouldn't do that,
five and a half out of firstplace. Feeling good on a Thursday,
talking to Stros Baseball, we goto the guest line now as Stros are
going to win the series we know, versus the Oakland Athletics, as they
took care of Game three last nightSomebody Knows a Little Something about Stros Baseball

(23:32):
for his weekly one, Brian Bogusseven of Space City Home Network, Bogie,
Good morning. I presume you're ina much better mood this time this
week because I was pissed off lastweek. This is it's crazy, but
I think this might be the firstweek that there's been more wins than losses
since the last time we talked.Wow, damn, really it feels like

(23:53):
it. You could be right aboutthat, all right, So let's get
down to the brass tacks. Lastnight, in particular Fromber looking more and
more like himself. This is nowtwice here recently that he appears to be
back in the form. What didyou see from Fromber last night? When
the bats? What in the clickingFromber? And then the bullpen made something

(24:15):
happen? Yeah, last night isFromber at his best. And honestly,
he's been this way pretty much everystart this year minus Seattle, and there's
been a couple of starts where theresults haven't been great. But what I'm
what I look for when I watchFromber is is everything down? Is everything

(24:37):
moving on a downward trajectory, Andyou don't want to see that fastball that
kind of runs flat on his armside, and when he's just starting the
ball in the middle and it's eithersinker down to the arm side and the
curve ball down to the back footof a right handed hitter, you get
exactly what you saw last night, which is a ton of weekly hit ground

(24:59):
balls and a lot of strikeouts. And it's hard to put a rally together
when nobody ever hits the ball outof the enfield. Yeah, it's it's
so it's so funny, you know, because we talked about that that opening
day. Uh, you know, the walks, he had the six walks
against the Yankees. But I remembertalking with a couple of people, said
he wasn't bad, like he hadhis stuff was there. He was just

(25:19):
it was it was tailing off andall that. And then he seemed to
write the ship from there. Andyou're right, I mean the one,
the one hiccup against Seattle, it'sgonna happen. But yeah, I mean,
that's vintage Frober right there. Andthat's back to back seven innings from
him, and this is what youneed from this guy. And and honestly,
Brian, I mean the runout Blancothing aside, Like, once you
get Bloco back, if Frober's pitchinglike this and JV's JV, and we'll

(25:41):
see what if Hoveer can get backinto form. And then eventually here Hot
or Katie like, Yeah, thiswhole thing starts to settle down, and
all the panic and everybody running aroundwith their hands in the air of the
first month, it settles down alittle bit. Now you still got work
to do. You still got tobuild dig out of this hole. And
as good as you've been, youstill got to get back, you know,
building back to five hundred. Butbut yeah, man, it's nice
to be in this spot where everythingkind of seems to be settling down now.

(26:06):
No, you're right, it's stilla steep hill to climb. Right.
The hole that was doug was prettydeep. But the best way to
get out of that hole is torun out a starting pitcher every day that
you know is going to give youa good chance to win. And when
you're trying to fill holes and juststop the bleeding with guys coming up from

(26:26):
Triple A, you know, everycouple of starts, that's really difficult to
do. But we're getting to thepoint now to where with what Fromber has
been all season, and with whatJV has shown since he's been off the
injured list, if tonight's going togo a long way with Christian Javier,
if Christian Javier looks right, you'reall of a sudden looking at a period

(26:48):
of time where these guys could gotwo, three times through the rotation where
you're just getting good start after goodstart, and that's the way teams go
on runs. Teams don't go onruns by you know, hitting the cover
off the ball for a month straight. That's usually a series of four or
five games at a time. Youcan get a stretch of starting pitching that
will cover fifteen twenty games where theycan carry you. And all of these

(27:11):
guys being right puts them in asituation where that can happen. Brian Bogusavic,
former draft selection, first round. What was that O? Four five?
Bogie? Came over a million yearsago? Five million years ago overall?
Lad, If you see Brian aroundthe ballpark, though he looks like
it could still play bogue, yougotta keep how many innings you got left
in your bogey? Zero zero? All right? Speaking of guy that has

(27:38):
a lot of innings left in him. I saw some video of him stopping
the automobile and jumping out the carand showing MLB network what he's doing with
his batting stands. Alex Bregman hasa woken since the last time we spoke.
What are you seeing from Breggie? Can he keep this up? Is
he back? George Bottle wasted nodamn time getting him back up into the
top four slot. Yeah, well, I mean, you hit three hummers

(28:03):
in two days, You're going toget put back in the middle of the
lineup real quick. You know. The funny thing is is like as bad
as it gets for hitters, right, you can be up in the batter's
box and feel like you're completely lost. I'm never going to get a hit
again. Anything this guy throws isgoing to get me out. But really
you're not all that far away, and a lot of times you're just looking

(28:23):
for a feel, something to feelright that sets you off in this hole.
Pull the knob past the baseball thing, which is, you know,
just reinforcing staying inside the ball, not getting out around trying to sweep the
ball to your pull side, butkeeping the barrel inside the baseball. That
is the thing that is apparently clickedfor Alex Bregman, and all of a

(28:44):
sudden, he looks more confident. You know, when when he fires off
his swing, it doesn't look likehe's feeling for the ball. It just
looks like he's, you know, shooting the barrel through the zone and just
happy with wherever that contact is goingto be. So it it looks like
it's back. It looks like it'sfor real. Now, is he going
to hit the ball like this forthe rest of the season. No,

(29:06):
nobody will, but you know,as long as he can get an up
that can match that down and thenkind of level off to the rest of
the season. Now, all ofa sudden, you've got another middle of
the bat, middle of the lineupbat that is being productive. And you
see what happens with this offense whenyou just get one or two guys that
are supposed to be that kind ofhitter getting to getting and doing that production.

(29:30):
It's interesting. You know, acouple of weeks ago and a lot
of I mean we were literally havinga discussion of if a spot is fired,
who's the interim. You know,Steve Sparks has kind of been the
level headed guy of Mondays when he'sbeen on Shohn Salisbury saying, look,
I like a lot of the movesthe Spot has made, like he's not
just resting on his laurels. He'schanging the lineups he's given, you know,
the pinch hit opportunities, and specificallythe other night, you know,

(29:52):
some people were like Caratini, pitchhitting for Dubond. But it works out,
I mean the whole, the wholereasoning with the runner at third and
you know, lefty versus righty hitter. I mean, evaluate now where we
are on Joe Spot, because Ijust feel like a lot of the decisions
he's made have been the right calls. It's just a lot of those opportunities
the player just didn't come through.Yeah, you know, making moves specifically

(30:17):
pinch hit type moves or line upmatchup moves, and really you know some
of the reliever moves not not thelikes stabilized back of the bullpen. We
know your role. It's all aboutmatchups. It's all about looking through information,
looking through data, and finding favorablematchups to put guys and the team
in position to be successful more oftenthan not. The caveat is that you

(30:41):
know it's only a more often thannot situation, and sometimes it's not.
And just because it doesn't work inan individual moment doesn't mean it was the
wrong move. As long as thereare sound logic behind it and sound thinking
behind it, it's the right move. And you have to continue you to
think in that way and continue toput guys in those matchups. And you

(31:03):
know, some of the pitching movesearly on didn't work out, but a
lot of the pinch hit lineup movesearly on have worked out, and you
know there's definitely a reasoning behind it, and we can see a lot of
the logic. So as a player, that's all you're looking for. You're
looking for a sound approach to managinga game and then just consistency to do

(31:26):
it over and over and then everybodycan feel comfortable with what's going on.
But you don't want to see isyou know a manager who just sporadically and
on whims makes moves and everybody's kindof sitting there like, well, what
are we doing now? I thinka lot of what Joe has done is
a worked out but be also justyou know, inspired confidence in that there's

(31:47):
sound reasoning behind everything. All right, Boga, we'll get you out on
this one. I wouldn't be doingmy job if I didn't ask you.
Ron Ronel Blanc. Oh, youknow, that's what we do on this
show, bog. I know youget excited about coming on here with us
because like a stand is gonna beon one today, Ronieo Blanco, he
cheated us in the team by definition. We'll talk more about intent and all

(32:07):
of that. Overall, your thoughtson the ruling, the process, the
inconsistencies with y'all Mimoto and who elsewas the one Gordon who was last year
the Yankees? Ye, yeah, all right, we have hermnd this old
sticky substance stuff what we at allright? So so it's a it's a

(32:30):
mess. The whole thing's a mess. By letter of the law, black
and white, Renelle Blanco broke arule and is getting the punishment that goes
in accordance with that. But thelarger situation, this just highlights the inconsistency

(32:50):
and sort of subjectivity with how therule is interpreted and enforced. You know,
the quote unquote substance, the rosinis a legal substance if it's on
his right arm, but since itwas in his left arm, it's not
legal and you know the sticky substancewas determined to be in his glove but
not on his pitching hand. Well, if something's in your glove but not

(33:14):
on your hand, that doesn't reallyaffect the game. And other players have
been given the opportunity to change glovesor wash hands or do whatever. So
I think from an individual standpoint, you know you had rosin on your non
throwing arm. That's against the rules. The rule was broken. But if
you're looking at it from a MajorLeague Baseball standpoint, they need to figure

(33:36):
out how these are going to beenforced and make it more uniform because what
one umpire determines to be too stickyisn't the same as what another umpire determines
to be too sticky. And havinga legal substance on your right arm,
but it's not legal if it's onyour left rm, well, how the
hell are you gonna get it onyour right arm if you don't pick it

(33:57):
up with your left hand and putit on your right arm. So it's
just it's it's just one of thosethings that Major League Baseball does, where
the enforcement is creates a whole lotof gray area to something that should be
black and White. That is thevoice of Brian Bogus Savic dropping by for

and one on the year seven innings, allowing just two hits including the little
blue Fluke blooper that got uh thatderailed is no hitter Uh. Eight K's

(37:00):
walking just too Fromber in his bagthat is a's Fromber. When that dude
right there shows up, it givesthe Astros a chance, even in absence
of someone like a Blanco or whenJV was on the al when from was
locked in and down in not likehe was versus the Yankees. He has
gotten steadily better, looking more likehimself. His erra is now down fromer

(37:23):
Valdez to two point nine to fiveand honestly, that's like of his six
and a half years with the Astros, when like, that's the bulk of
what Fromber has been has been that. I mean, he has been a
dominant player, a player that hasbeen in Cy Young conversation, you know,
just about every year the last fouror five years. So I mean

(37:44):
that it's so good to see becausehe was so bad down the stretch of
last season. He was so hewas so bad in the postseason, well
yeah, I mean he had theone hiccup against the Mariners and an opening
Day with the Control, but outsideof that, he's been pretty dominant.
It's funny, even even though hegot roughed up by the Mariners two weeks
ago. I was doing the pregamefor that show, and his career numbers

(38:07):
against Seattle are like phenomenal. AndI didn't see the pregame notes yesterday,
but I assume it's the same thingagainst Oakland, yea, because they're off.
And this is where I think thiskind of starts to help you know
these guys a little bit. It'splaying these these you know, the Angels
are coming up on the schedule,Like seeing these gotta make something familiar with
You're just you know, when whenFrommer historically dominates those three teams, he's

(38:29):
this is what you need. Butthese also bad teams. So like we
knew the Astros were gonna hit theirstride at some point, and we knew
they had a chance to do soagainst some bad teams. We talked about
Colorado, the A's and the Angelsyou just mentioned. They get the A's
again for a three game series outthere in the Bay starting on the twenty
fourth of this month. So fromis back there looking like from But I'm

(38:51):
totally frying with that. How abouta little love too for Seth Martinez.
I was gonna get to the backend. I mean, for all the
talk of the middle relief and youknow again on the back back, and
we know it's still got to bea bray you Presley and Hater and those
guys have to do their job.But Seth Martinez and Taylor Scott have been
two of the biggest heroes of thisseason so far in terms of coming in
and having to eat up innings andhaving to keep games closer, get you

(39:15):
out of tough spots, and notjust that, not allowing the performances by
Martinez and Scott have kept some inningsoff of Josh Hayter even though he's not
having to go multiple end. Howabout last night, I'm listening on the
radio and I hear Robert Ford sayin the eighth inning, bottom of the
eighth Josh Hater's getting up to throwand started warming up, And Josh Reddick

(39:37):
kind of said he thought, youknow, it was one of those things
where it was understood Hater wasn't available. The Hater probably went to a spot
and said I'm there if you needme tonight. Now, kudos to Seth
Martinez. They stuck with him.He got the two inning save, but
they didn't need to use Hater. But yeah, good things are happening right
now. Let's go to the phonelines and hear from the people want to
get in on ASTROS. We willcontinue ASTROS conversation around eleven thirty or so.

(39:59):
We got to hear from m Alexanderon the Texans schedule release coming up
at the top of the eleven o'clockout. Well, nonetheless, George and
West University, what up? Yeah, First of all, I want to
thank you for having Brian bogasvik one. I didn't realize that he was a
regular on the show. I confessI'm not able to listen to the show
all that often, but I reallylike him as an analyst. I I

(40:20):
you know, he's been with theAstros orgization for a while and I think
he's he's good and so thanks forhaving him on. Man Okay. Question
a couple of questions about Renel theRenel Blanco situation. Number one, I
could be curious as to your opinionhow how much intentionality you think there was.
My presumption with a high level athleteis that when they violate an equipment

(40:43):
role, it's almost always intentional, because you know, high level athletes are
really particular about details. But I'djust be interested in your opinion. Their
thing is is this? Is thereany you think there's any heat on the
Astros pitching coach? I mean,if I were a head coach and the
position player you know, had illegalequipment, I would be pretty ticked off

(41:07):
at that position coach, and Iwould kind of be saying, how the
heck can you let this happen? But I don't know how the dynamics are
in baseball. So that's those aremy questions understood. Thank you, Thank
you, George. We're up againstit just a bit. Dana Brown said
as much, Gordy. All ofthe pictures knew what the rule was,

(41:28):
which means I now hold Ronel Blanco. He has to own that. So
by definition of the word, RonelleBlanco cheated. Some of you not gonna
like that word because you're going totake it in places that I don't necessarily
mean it to go. The bottomline is he violated. He's going to
serve his suspension. He should servea suspension. He did violate, and
we're done. We'll get back toplaying winning baseball. We'll talk more about

(41:51):
that. But Dana Brown said yesterday, remember I kept calling for Joe Spotterm.
I said, Joe Spotty, yougotta tell us cover your own ass,
tell us that you told him.Dana Brown did INFORHM. So we
now know they were all told. There was one guy that violated. He's
now serving a ten game suspension. The pitching coach is Bill Murphy. I
presume Bill Murphy not knowing the dynamics, but I don't know that he's gonna

(42:14):
be in a direct line of firehere, gord to you. Yeah,
again, I just think it comesdown to the player and whether or not
he did something nefarious. I mean, we'll fight, you know, we
No, we won't find out.I don't think we would flout, but
I think it'll come out down theright. But but what I was told
by some people is that there area lot of pitchers still using you know,

(42:35):
some kind of substance. Has gotnothing to do. They called him
no, no, I get it. But I'm just saying, like,
this is it. We're gonna ifthey're gonna go this route of cracking that
could like we really need to crackdown on this. Don't be surprised if
we see two three more guys getcaught here in the coming weeks. When
you watch Aftros Baseball tonight, Gamefour versus the A's over at minute May
Park, first pitch shortly after five, Gordy, excuse me, shortly after

(42:58):
seven, Gordion, What should thepeople be thinking thinking about when they're making
a way into the ballpark. Well, it was great to be out of
the ballpark the other night and seeingso many people with the tall Boy Crawford
box in their hands. It goesperfectly with Astros baseball. You know it.
You see it all over the ballpark, all over the concourse and uh,
I think you just got to tieyour head. If you're at the
grocery and you know you're gonna behanging out the house watching the astros.

(43:20):
Grab you a six pack, twelvepack, whatever it is. Drink responsibly,
but grab you some Crawford Back fromour friends over at Carbock Burwing Bird
right here in Houston, Texas,Tequila Sundrise stripes on the side of the
cans. It is a home runevery time when it comes to the Crawford
Back from Carpark Burrow. Now,what's next? Next stop? It's the
niche man up. Next stop, the next step, take the next step,

(43:44):
next up, next stop, next, next up. This team wants
to be next. This is NextUp with tan Norflee ten Chris Gordy.
Let's see what's next, next next, come on, let's take care business
here the second hour, final hourof the show. Here on Next Up,
stay in Northfleet. Is me atsports Talk at sports Talk till ninety

(44:07):
is us. I'm at stand Sportsman. To my left, my radio partner,
my brother, I call him seeJeezy. Chris Gordon is where you
can find him on social That's ConnadyMcGovern. He is at Connady McGovern welcome
in the next up, and wewill jump back into some Houston Texans conversation
as the schedule is out. Aswe know, many of us were had

(44:28):
our phones in hand, laptops open, and a gentleman over at the Chronicle
who on the beat for the HoustonTexans friend of mine does a great job
over there at the Houston Chronicle.Jonathan m Alexander joins us as he has
an article up doing what Gordon andI had a good time doing in hour
one, forecasting how the twenty fourseason will lay out for our Houston Texans.

(44:49):
JMA, good morning to you.Let's start with your overall thought on
what the league did for the Texansor to the Texans, depending on where
you want to look at that from. Yeah, man, and you look
at the schedule, and we allknew their opponents and who they were going
to play. But I'm sure y'allhave discussed this in depth, but it
really gets difficult in that second halfof the stretch from week nine through seventeen,

(45:14):
and really particularly weeks fifteen through eighteen. I think to go from the
Dolphins, the Chiefs and the Ravensand back to back to back games and
then in with the division opponent isgoing to be extremely tough. So what
we know is it takes is goingto have to get out to a strong
start at fast start if they wantto have a chance to make the playoffs

(45:35):
because those last few teams are goingto be extremely tough enough. It's interesting
Johnaviv team last year. I meanliterally almost every game was a Sunday at
noon last year, and it waskind of depressing. You have the successful
season you have, you're going toget more primetime games. And I understand
you've had a quote from Hans Schroeder, who's the executive of Media Distribution,

(45:55):
who said, the teams determine howmany primetime games you Get's had a great
year, great quarterback, So yeah, there's excitement for the Texans there.
Yeah, And I asked him thatspecifically, you know, what did the
Texans getting four prime time games andsix nationally televised games say about the way
the league used their appeal? Andyou know, like you said, he

(46:17):
mentioned he said the teams, theydetermined how many primetile games. And he
said the Texans for an exciting teamlast year, and they have an exciting
quarterback and c J. Stroud,he explicitically said that, and I think
the I think the league is bettingthat the Texans will be just a successful

(46:39):
this year. I don't know howI've missed out that, but this year
as they as they will next year, and just with the additions of Stefan
Digge further their appeal as well asJoe Mixon and other key pieces, and
see the Stroud coming into his ownyear two. You know, they should
be really in a thicket things andthey got rewarded for the success last year.

(47:02):
Jhon d m Alexander Houston Chronicle herewith Fleet and Gordy on next up.
Jma, your any surprises? Forexample, I have said, how
do you not put Texans at Dallason Thanksgiving? It just makes it life
easier for everybody. You don't haveto get the Giants coming from the East
Coast regionally. It just makes sense. The storylines make sense. So that

(47:23):
was one of those for me.For you, where do you look at,
you know, missed opportunities by theleague per se. Yeah, I
think that was potentially one that couldhave happened. I mean they still got
them on Monday Night football. Ithink the Texans, given the fact that
they were playing already a Christmas game. They probably didn't want to put them
on a Christmas and the Thanksgiving Givinggame. I thought the one area that

(47:47):
they missed was putting the Buffalo Billsand Texans matchup on Sunday Night Football.
And they were actually specifically asked aboutthis today and they thought that putting them
into one, they're getting the biggerone, the one pm Eastern Times twelve
pm Central slot. And they thinkthat they say that this game would be

(48:10):
broadcasted sixty to sixty five percent ofthe people in the country. But I
did think that that that game particularlyhad a lot of appeal for Sunday Night
Football because it was Stefan Digg whothings didn't end well in Buffalo. Buffalo
is still one of the more eliteteams in the AFC. The Texans are
becoming the elite team. Got twogreat quarterbacks going against each other. I

(48:31):
thought that that was the miss opportunity, uh in the Texas schedule. It's
interesting how it opens up for themtoo, Jonathan. Obviously, you open
on the road with Indianapolis. It'sa divisional game, and Anthony Richardson is
back healthy. But when you considerAnthony Richardson only played four games last year,
you know, suffering from injuries, and then you know, you get

(48:51):
Chicago rookie quarterback in Minnesota. We'llsee if JJ McCarthy ends up winning that
job, but basically you're you're almostplaying three rookies there. I mean,
Anthony Richardson only played four games,so I kind of like that start for
the Texans, real opportunity at homefor Jacksonville, I mean, a real
chance to start four and oh outof the gates. Yeah, absolutely.
I mean it's funny. And wewere doing a podcast today at the Ron

(49:14):
with my coworker Matt Young, andhe mentioned that too, like you're getting
those guys early in the in theschedule when you know they have to figure
it out first. And I thinkthat those guys would because you know,
Anthony richards coming up an injury thathe suffered in week five, so he's
got to be rusty. Caleb Williamshas kind of come trying to learn things,
you know, Cee de Stroude obviouslyit took him with two or three

(49:34):
weeks, two weeks to get going. You'd expect the same thing for a
guy like Caleb Williams and Anthony Richisongetting back, So the Texans are actually
getting those guys at the right time, like you mentioned, and I do
I do think that they'll start outthe season about five and one, and
they should be able to get outso a fast start if they can remain

(49:57):
healthy. Now, all this canchange if their health issues the key players,
you know, knock on wood,But I think if the Technics are
a healthy team and have their primarypieces and they be sure can get out
to a fast start with the waythe schedule starts out, all right,
jam may you mentioned the schedule andspecific games. I'm not going to steal
too much of your thunder, butI would be remiss if I didn't at

(50:20):
least tease up on the chronicle rightnow. You have gone week by week.
Give us a summation on how youlanded at whatever the record is.
I don't know if you want tokeep that a secret or whatnot, but
just in terms of, like notnecessarily game by game, but just overall
some snapshots of the season and whereyou think this thing will land on paper.
Yeah, I have as an elevenand six record, and you know,

(50:44):
listeners can go and watch how whyI picked each win and lost.
I just think you know, earlyone, the Texans have a pretty simpletism
like we've just talked about, andthen it gets tough in week nine through
seventeen. And the other thing thatwe did not mention the Texans have a
Week fourteen by that is a lateby, and we saw how the Texans

(51:06):
were hurt last year. They couldbe kind of living through up to that
bye week. It's a super lateby, so I think that could cause
them to have some kind of issueskind of in the middle part of that
schedule, and then they have thosetough games. So that's why edie at
first, and I think they'll winand they'll get some momentum, and then
I think injuries could potentially catch upto them and they can run into some

(51:29):
really tough teams along the way withthe Dolphins, Chiefs, and Ravens and
end up with the eleven and sixrecord. I think they'll make the playoffs
again and potentially when they sez olJohn did do we put too much into
the whole strength of schedule because wereally don't know, Like we're based on
last year's strength of schedule, youknow, like the story schedule based on
how these teams were last year,But like Dallas could take a step back.

(51:52):
Maybe Detroit's not as good. Imean it's Oh, do we put
too much into that when we lookat it and go, oh, this
is a daunting schedule? Yeah, absolutely, we do all the time.
I mean, teams change from yearto year. There's a lot of turnover
on a lot of teams. TheVikings are a much different team this year

(52:12):
than they were last year. Youlook at other teams who you know,
lost quarterbacks, who lost significant players, players who are coming off injury.
Yeah, I do think we putthe thing. The Titans is gonna be
a different team. The Titans arenot gonna be nearly as bad last year
this year as they were last year. I think they'll be an improved teams.
So yes, I think anything couldhappen, I think, But I

(52:35):
do think the Ravens and Chiefs andTexans will be among the top teams in
the AFC. But we do puta little bit too much in the stress
schedule. So last year last onefor you. Here Jonathan m Alexander,
Houston Chronicle on the beat for theTexans, joining us for a conversation about
the Texans schedule. I was alittle surprised and We knew this actually yesterday

(52:59):
as the schedule leaks came out asin schedules that mean they're supposed to no
international game for the Texans. Iactually think that bode's them well. Given
Demko in his second year. Ithink going you need to be kind of
tired and have a handle on yourprogram, your philosophy, all of that

(53:19):
before I think you start going abroadbecause it's so irregular from the typical NFL
week. Your thoughts on the internationalconversation, Oh, well, they were
handed to be playing an international game. They could potentially have played against the
Vikings with the NFL decided against it, and I thought it would have been
I don't know that it would havethat much. Another thing, I think

(53:42):
the NFL probably would have looked outfor them. They were just talking about
it on the zoom call that theyhad that the flight to London. You
know, they played the early gameand they get back to their facilities,
you know, just sooner if theywere playing like on the opposite side of
the country. So I think thereit is a little bit of a disrupt

(54:05):
in their schedule because they're there foran extended period of time. But I
don't really think it would have thatmuch of an effect on the Texans because
the other team would have been involvedin it as well. But I thought
it would have been good to continuethe national brand of the international brand of
the Texans. And but that willprobably continue next year. I'd expect the

(54:28):
Texans will probably have an international gamenext year. So even though they won't
have it this year, they'll probablyhave it next year. All right,
that's the voice of Jonathan m Alexander. Make sure you follow him doing a
great job for the Chronicle. Heis at John jo In the letter m
Alexander, we appreciate you j andA. We'll keep reading your work.
Brother, Thanks so much. Appreciateyou'll having me. All right, y'all

(54:51):
be well. And when you're thinkingabout the Houston Texans home schedule eight games
this year as opposed to nine gameslast year, I ask you to consider
JB. Thibodeau Homes and Properties. Those are my people. They do an
excellent job over there, consulting you, working with you, being a part
of wherever you are in the buildingprocess, whether that be new home construction,

(55:15):
residential remodels, or commercial bills.Right now, the duplex special still
priced into two hundreds. He's Isaw this the blueprints. He's got this
thing called a jazz coming out. It's crazy. He can build anywhere you
want to go. He has changedthe way that lots are divided and how
you put square footage on acreage. There's a whole formula to it, and

(55:35):
JB. Thibodeaux Homes and Properties areexecuting it like no one else in the
market. All right, for moredetails go to Jbthibodeau dot com so he
can bring your vision to reality. That is JB. Thibodeau dot com.
To the next episode. You can'teven stop yourself, Finjon and next as

(55:58):
next stuff continues on seven ninety.Hold about forty two minutes from now,
Houston will get you over to MattThomas and Rossvirrial for the Matt Thomas Show.
Until then, Gordy Iiconomcgovernor. We'regonna do what we do. Thanks
our brother Jonathan m Alexander the Chronicle. You can go to the Houston Chronicle
and see his season prediction now thatthe schedule is out for the Texans.

(56:21):
If you did not hear my predictionin our one number one, you should
be using Sports seven ninety dot comor the free iHeartRadio app to go back
and listen to our one. Luckilyfor you, I'll provide you with that
information. Now on paper, Ihave the Texans right now at ten and
seven. I have them getting outof the gate early in the first two
months of the season. So throughthe first nine games, I have the

(56:45):
Texans at seven to two. Theproblem is starting in November. I got
to win in three games right now, Detroit here, Tennessee here, and
then at Tennessee in week eighteen. They did the Texans as solid in several
ways. Number one, they onlyhave one well, they only have one

(57:10):
back to back on the road,New England week six, Green Bay week
seven. Lovely also only one coldweather game December twenty first at Kansas City.
They're going to lose that game, all right. The travel is not
extensive. They're not going all overthe place. Every other week is road

(57:32):
home, road home. That's cool. Now, they did get screwed,
did the Texans Week fifteen, sixteenand seventeen? The Dolphins? Dolphins here
at KC Baltimore here. That's tough. They don't deserve that. That was
an oversight by somebody smarter than me. Over at the NFL. What are
we doing here? Three games withthose playoff teams, all three playoff teams

(57:55):
the Dolphins, Chiefs, and Ravensfrom a year ago. Three games in
fifteen days. Gordon, I gota major problem with that. Well,
it's not the NFL's job to makethings easier on no, but it is
supposed to be. Get who's doingthat. I've never seen that before in
as long as I've been around theNational Football League, I've never seen three
playoff teams crammed on somebody in aten yeah, ten day period. Well,

(58:19):
did you see the note on theBears and the Steelers? They don't
play any divisional games weeks one throughten. First time I would say that
I would be pissed about that. We're gonna get all the divisional games out
of the back end. What ifwe're banged up, what if for quarterback
misses to start like? It's justthat, that to me is a little
bit more unfair. I also think, oh, by the way, when
you talk about primetime games, also, nobody's scared of the Dolphins. Dolphins

(58:42):
good football team. Mike McDaniels knowsDemko Ryans from their day and Bobby Slowyd
from their days in San France. And I don't know if y'all understand this,
but their offensive weaponry is better thanthe offensive webrey here in Houston.
If I told you had to takea thousand dollars out of your back out
em betted on Tua playing over fifteenand a half games or under where would

(59:05):
you put that money? Come on, be real, you don't trust that
captain. So he played fifteen lastyear? What did he played sixteen last
year? It was probably the firsttime in his career. Yeah, So
look, that's a good football teamand they've got one of those infrastructures that
you could put the first time inhis career. He even played the whole
season. You could put a JoeFlacco with the toys they got and that

(59:28):
and their scheme and the Dolphins isgonna be competitive. So I'm not ready
to poo poo that he mist theplayoff game too right to him? Did
he miss or did he get knockedout? I'm not sure. So here's
what the league did. Do theTexans a solid. They said, look,
stand, you're right, we didscrew the Texans, but at least
we're going to give two of thosethree at home and at least you don't

(59:49):
have to go on the road backto back within that those fifteen days and
you have a bye week coming outof You got the Dolphins coming out of
the bye week in week fourteen. So this is one case where Domenico in
gonna love the late by week, but it's going to serve the team well,
giving the opponents to wrap up theend of the season. That December,
by far is their most toughest stretch. Yeah. I think WEX was

(01:00:12):
kicking around yesterday before the schedule droppedand they were saying the only options for
the bye week was either week sixor later in the year, and I
said, I'd rather later in theyear. Me too. I mean week
six is way too early year, especially given this schedule. I mean,
you're getting five winnable games out ofthe gates. No, let's keep this
train rolling now. If they openedthe season stand and it was Baltimore at

(01:00:34):
Kansas City Miami, you know whatI mean, Like, if it was
one of those at the start, then I go, yeah, Okay,
give me the week, give methe week six. Body to catch my
breath. Yeah, the Texans areunbeaten here at NRG slash Reliant versus Miami
six and zero Ravens on Christmas Day, the second time Houston has played a

(01:00:57):
game on Christmas Day. I'm justgoing through the the release here some things
for the first time, the Texanswill also host Oh this is the promotional
schedule. What is this called Septembertwenty ninth International Day, a celebration of
Hispanic heritage month Da Da Da dathe oh that we gotta do the uniforms
the repping H Town theme on Octobersixth, when the Buffalo Bills come in.

(01:01:21):
So that's the first time we willsee the H Town blue. We
will get the all candy red alternateuniform that would be battle Red Day Detroit
Lions November tenth, So we wantedto see when we would get those other
units, Gordon, those are somedates we can highlight there. Andre Johnson

(01:01:42):
also will be recognized the AJA eightyHall of Fame Game, a Legend's homecoming,
the Colts game on October twenty seven, So that the last two games
in October and then that first homegame November tenth versus the Lions. We've
been a lot going on in thecity. And uh, congratulations again to
Andre with the Hall of Fame game. We know that the Texans have four

(01:02:08):
preseason games the Bears, the Steelers, and then two home games the Giants
and the Rams. From a preseasonstandpoint, I feel good ten and seven,
which is where they finished last year. Ten and seven won the division
and got them in the playoffs.Djb enemy that rights for ESPN dot com

(01:02:30):
on the Texans Beat, He writesGordy that the Texans will not repeat FS
Conference champions and you have to goon his site and you can read for
yourself why that is. Will Iask you, excuse me for hitting the
microphone. I ask you straight out, guys, and let's open up the
phone line seven one, three, two two five, seven to ninety.
Now that the schedule is out,now that the rookies are here, and

(01:02:52):
we have a legitimate ninety eight ninetynine percent snapshot of what the twenty four
team is gonna look like. Goris this team going to win the division,
repeat as division winners in the AFCSouth? And are they a postseason
team? I would say my inclinationis to say it's gonna be tough to

(01:03:12):
win the division because your schedule isa lot tougher. The Colts and we
just talked about a few segments ago. The Colts and Jacks both went nine
to eight last year. Now theColts went nine and eight with Gardner freaking
minshewt playing majority of their games. Now they get Anthony richardson back, who's
better, Like the Colts could takea step forward. You you like the
Coats more than I do. Yeah, I don't think the Colts because they

(01:03:32):
just went nine to eight with awith a Garn min Garna Minch is starting
right now for the Vegas Raiders.Well that's because they don't They didn't draft
anybody. Tell me right now,he's a starting quarterback in the league.
Garna Minshew was one of the betterbackups in the league. Who was Minnesota's
got Sam Donald. Minshew's better thanSam Donald. But they're probably McCarthy's gotta
beat him out right, I'm notso sure about that. I'm not a

(01:03:55):
big JJ McCarthy guy. I knewhe would be taken. I don't think.
I mean, the Titans are probablyare expected to be the doormat of
this division, but I mean theyall they did was upgraded. I mean,
the going from Derrek Hemry to TonyPollard. We could say where Derreck
Henry was right now in his career. It's not a huge step backward for

(01:04:16):
Tony I think is a huge andif Tony Pollard's healthy, him combo with
ty J Spears might be pretty productive. Then you add Calvin Ridley to that
receiving core with DeAndre Hopkins, andyou draft J. C. Latham as
left tackle, you add Lloyd Cushionberryat center. They're putting weapons around well
Well Levis. Now the question iscan will Levis play? Will Levis number

(01:04:36):
one? And Nan Callahan in hisfirst season as a head coach in this
league would be my second. Theyhad one of the best corners in the
league and Lugarious sneed like the Titansaren't necessarily a doormat. And then of
course Jacksonville, you know, theythey lose Calvin Ridley, but they had
Brian Thomas junior from LSU in thefirst round. They add Gabe Davis.

(01:04:58):
They're putting weapons around Lawrence and ifhe could stay healthy, Christian Wilkins.
I'm just saying like this could bea year where all these teams are again
in that collective nine to ten winterritory. Maybe not the Titans, but
I could easily see the Jags,Colts, and Texans all being eight nine
wins going into the final weeks andthose tie breakers are going to come into
and to play. And that's whereI say, maybe the Texas don't win

(01:05:20):
the division but still get in asa wild card at nine ten wins in
the division. Jacksonville scares me themost. Jacksonville, Trevor Lawrence, you
know what they got going on overthere, Doug Peterson, what they've done
from a skill standpoint, re signingJosh Allen, bringing over Christian Jacksonville's a
good football tea. Oh, Iforgot the Colts drafted at Ady Mitchell out

(01:05:43):
of Texas to go with Michael Pittmanand Josh Downs. That's good. With
Jonathan Taylor full season, Jonathan Taylorin the backs now Jonathan Taylor, that's
running back. They's given the Texansproblems, no question. We'll see and
we end with this and we'll getit on the other side, because I
want to hear from c. J. Stroud on a particular matchup, him
and Michael Parsons going back and forthwith each other. We also, I

(01:06:05):
think underestimate how much better the Texansare going to be. The Texans absolutely
benefited, especially in coast fashion lastyear, some games that the ball bounced
their way. I think there're gonnabe a lot more games that look like
the Texans are going to separate themselvesand not necessarily be on the Kansas City

(01:06:25):
stratusphere, but I think they'll beright up under Baltimore on par with how
people feel about Buffalo Baltimore and orexcuse me, Buffalo. Who else am
I thinking? In AFC? Someof those other teams in the AFC,
not KNA City, not Baltimore, but certainly on that Buffalo Miami Dolphins level.
All right, let's come back.Let's hear from the quarterback over the
n RG. More astro's commentary aswell, Johoma Houston sports right here,

(01:06:48):
KB and me. Next up continuesdown. So I'm a new listener at
already a huge new listener. Ilove the show with Stan North, Clayton,
Chris Gordy Sports Sucks seven ninety Greatfor you, yo, twenty six
minutes from now Matt Thomas Ross VeraThe Matt Thomas Show. They'll take you

(01:07:08):
from noon to three. Astros inaction tonight, Game four, final game
of this series. Versus the OaklandAthletics, as we will get first pitch
shortly after seven Astros on Dick atthe conclusion of the A team. Both
Adam Wesler and Adam Clinton will bethere from three to six. We have
news of a different variety, Gordon, pertaining to the Houston Astros and the

(01:07:33):
Oakland Athletics. There has been atrade. Tell the people what's going on.
Yeah. I always love the tradesthat go down when both teams are
playing each other because it's like, hey, let me go get my stuff
and just walk across the field tothe other. Dugout. Brandon b Lack
has been traded to the Oakland A'sfor cash considerations. If you remember,
Black was designated for assignment last Saturdayto make room for Christian Javier, so

(01:07:58):
obviously it was one of the things. And I kind of did the same
thing with Corey Jolks yesterday trading himto the White Sox. You were designated
for assignment, so you like,in other words, we had to make
a roster spot for you. Wedidn't protect you so teams could come in
and get you. So in thissituation, you're you're facility of trade just
to get something in return. Inthis case, it makes sense, it's
just cash. So basically, inother words, you're just like poor Jokes

(01:08:20):
gone, Brandon b Let gone.Yeah. Oh well, all right,
let's talk some more texts I wantto hear from our quarterback here just a
second, let's go to Cypress firstthough, friend of the station, Friend
of the show, kJ what up? What up? Fellas as usual?
Man, love the show, lovethe show. Let me say, let
me say this real quick. It'sit's easy. And this is one thing

(01:08:41):
I hate when people do, whenthey bring up a point and and bring
up isolated teas to support that point, when in the grass scheme of these
they could very well be just thatisolated into this. Everybody knows that the
NFL of days, you can't waitwithout a quarterback. So let's run down
the check this when it comes tothe Texans and everybody in our division,
as of right now, we havethe best quarterback of the division. We're

(01:09:04):
still waiting for, uh, We'restill waiting for Trevor Larunson turning the corner.
So you can say, and I'mintimidated by the Jaguars, but the
only person on the Jaguars that reallyintimidates me is Josh Allen the defensive end.
And I can point to a playeror two on each team, Jonathan
Taylor with the Coats, DeAndre Hopkinsif he still has something left with the
Titans, But overall, there's nothingabout their roster that intimidates me. The

(01:09:29):
teams that can stop the Texans fromdeveloping and ascending the weather they are right
now. To me, it's onlythe Texans. So to have a conversation
about this team scares me or thatteam scares me. Chris, you mentioned
a couple of rookie wide receivers thatcan help the team. They potentially could
help the team, or they canparticilarly be flopped like Charles Rochers came out
of with the Detroit Lions. Sowe can we can pick and say this

(01:09:53):
scares me or that scares me.But I honestly think that the only thing
that scares me in regards to theTexans when in this division and ascending him
the way continuing of the directions they'reheading in right now is in Texas himself.
Stroud follow us out on his face, the offers a line against still
not holding up living up to expectations. The running game, not being consistent.

(01:10:14):
Those things scare me more than TrevorLawrence or or some rookie wide receive
on another team, or Will Levits. I don't want to hear what you
guys got to say. And again, I love the show fellas, appreciate
you kJ and Cyprus. Now,I just want to be fair kJ,
And I don't know when you tunedinto the program, I didn't say I'm
did I say I was scared ofJacksonville? I probably said Jacksonville scares me
the most of the rest of ourdivision, But I am not afraid of

(01:10:39):
Jacksonville. We see J stridden Demiko. We went into their house and beat
him down there. Now they cameup in here and made some noise.
Yeah, it's interesting if you dividedthat we're close situation, so we're all
you're gonna get not a soul inHouston, Texas. It's gonna say c
J. Strout is not the bestquarterback in the division. But I think
if you'd went nationally, I thinkTrevor Lawrence would a little bit more love.

(01:11:00):
No, I don't believe it.Trevor Lawrence has as many postseason accomplishments
as c J. Stroud w hewon a wild card game and got to
the divisional round. He regressed andoh no, he got better in year
two. But yeah, and thebig problem with him last year was health.
He wasn't healthy. He was out. They rushed him back and you
could tell he was not the sameplayer. Sure, so I just say

(01:11:21):
that to say again it sounds blasphemoussaying this in Houston, but like there
was a world where CJ isn't asgood in your two because simply because the
opponents are better. Now I knowthey upgrade. It's the font Diggs is
gonna make him. Thank you,Joe Mixon. But on the flip side,
Trevor Lawrence could have an awesome year. Trevor Lawrence could be an MVP
kendidate Jacksonville and it wouldn't be shocked. Well, what did I say in

(01:11:41):
the first hour, I saw theMVP odds come out the way too early
MVP odds. It was Pat Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and
c J. Stroud. Trevor Lawrencefrom my recollection, was not in the
top five, six, eight,Like I don't even know he was in
the top team. You could beright, that's the funny thing about the
NFL. Year to year, someguys hit their stride, some guys don't.

(01:12:03):
And again and talking specifically, andI keep going to the downas game
you and I and I distinctly rememberthis. Dak Prescott's not a top ten
quarterbacks? Then I said, ofcourse he is. He went out there
and one m VP runner up,So like an award MVP runner up?
Is Dak Prescott a top ten quarterbackin this league? Right now? Sound

(01:12:28):
crazy as hell? The damn apvoters told you he was the second best
quarterback in the league. What areyou talking? I can't say that when
you crop the bet every road gameyou played last year, he was ignoring
you. Let's play this, Uh, Jared Goff is better than Doc ridiculous
Jared Detroit. What we want topay the man? Jerry's like, ah,

(01:12:50):
because already that I don't know.I'm already paid it. Let me
hear Michael Parson speaking of the Cowboys. I love the dynamic between him and
CJ. Stride one Cole Bridge, but nod they were on somebody's pocket.
I think this is the Bleacher Reportdeal. Well, Michael Parson Draft Night,
Yeah, Okay, So Michael Parsonswas recently announced as he's got some

(01:13:11):
official title with Bleacher Reports grid Iron, which is their football blog. Essentially.
All right, Michael Parsons Stroud, you're gonna play each other. It's
gonna be on Monday night football.CJ is going to Dallas. How's this
gonna play out? Feels nobody knowshow to get in there? Skill like
me is. This year's game isgonna be the first time you guys play
each other in the NFL. Yeah. I never played CJ in college.

(01:13:35):
No, we didn't. He wasgone. So that week before the game
is gonna be so this is this. I'm not even gonna talk to him
a week before the game. I'mgonna talk to you. I'm gonna come
to the game. I don't gottasay too much. You know, after
the game is gonna be all love. We're gonna swap jerseys because you know
that's really like my brother. Yeah, and then you know we're gonna go

(01:13:55):
about it. But you know thisis you guys both miked up for this.
This is this is where the roberhe starts right here. I don't
really talk much, but like I'lltalk with Michael. I have no problem
with that I'm excited for it though, but I mean, at the end
of the day, man, Iwish Michael the best against everybody else.
He don't want to see lamby Oh. At the end of Jack, I

(01:14:16):
love their dynamic because Michael Parsons isthe brother that he doesn't let anybody talk
crap to him except like it's almostlike Michael treats CJ as the big brother
and as CJ knows that Mike ain'tgonna do anything, so he just continues
to pester him. At the end, there you hear c J Stroud tell
Michael, Yeah, but you don'twant no part of Larmy Tonsen. They

(01:14:36):
have. They have such a funny, such a funny dynamic. There should
be a reality show, like offseason reality show. I feel like five
episodes of just CJ and Mike aregoing on. You know what they could
be when they're ready. The twoof them could be some semblance of what
Shaq and Barkley are on NBA Tand T. Yeah, they could be

(01:14:58):
a verge a football version and ofthat end time, I just love CJ's
fearless too, Like he's not afraidof anybody. He's not willing to give
anybody credit. He's like, I'mbetter than you. I'd like There's been
some conversation speaking of the Colts.Zayia Franklin, a really good linebacker for
the Colts, has said he reallyliked to get a hold of CJ again
because CJ has been doing some yappin here recently. Cole Bridgebnard, I

(01:15:21):
just need you to make sure youhave a healthy respect for what this league
is about week the week, andI think Tom Brady would tell you the
same thing. Speaking of Brady andall these what do you want to call
him? All the superlatives surrounding CJ. Artist love he's getting. I want
to hear from the goat On theother side, I also want to hear

(01:15:44):
from a pundent covering the Astros.Excuse me as it relates to Ron now
Blanco. We'll come back close outto show Fleet, Gordon Connor next up,
Legendary Kbmmy Stanton or Fleet and ChrisGordy next up on sports Sock seven
ninety. I love that baseline. All right, Let's get ready to get

(01:16:05):
it out of here. On aThursday, Richard still talk from NFL,
and then we'll lie back into wherewe are from an astro standpoint. As
the schedule is being released, Gordon, I'm doing my predictions on paper right
now. I don't know where youare, Houston, but I've got the
Texans with ten wins. It's goingto be extremely bountiful early and it's gonna

(01:16:31):
get extremely challenging late. Their seasonwill likely be determined in the middle somewhere
in that weeks eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, somewhere up
and there. But as a schedule, and I'm penciling in, Okay,
that's a win in right now, that's a lost da da da as I'm
penciling all that in. I keepthinking about one dude and all of this

(01:16:55):
six nationally televised games, four inprime time telling about c J. Stroud.
That's he and Demico are the reasonwe're doing this. The euphoria,
all of that is because two dues. Yes they have teammates, Yes,
Dimico has a staff all at Casario. I'll give you some mention as well.

(01:17:17):
But two dues on Sunday go towork and then obviously the work doesn't
just start on Sunday. But TomBrady had some advice for CJ. Stroud
and I wanted to get to thisthe other day, and of course there's
never enough time with just two hours. I hope CJ heard this because,
as I mentioned in the previous segment, one of my concerns with any young

(01:17:39):
athlete that is having success, it'snot failure that worries me, it's the
success. Do you get distracted thetime commitment? Are you as humble?
Are you as hungry? Do youtry and use the platform to take care
of too many people and you spreadyourself in The Goat himself had was as

(01:18:01):
specifically about the young guns, andhe highlighted one Cole Bridge, but on
I mean, CJ is a goodexample, Like I really appreciated where he
came from and all the expectations thathe had and then what he's gone and
put together last year with a lotof humility, and I could see,
like when I watch quarterbacks, thefirst thing I watch is are does he

(01:18:26):
endear himself to his teammates? Whatare the things that he's saying, What
are the things that he's doing toendear himself to his teammates so that he
does feel like one of the guys. If he wants to separate himself from
the rest of the team, it'snot going to go You're not gonna play
twenty years, just not because theonly way you're gonna play is your teammates.
Because's only so much you could do. You can't. There's so many

(01:18:47):
things I sucked at, but theonly way that I could get to where
I wanted to get to was tohave the best teammates. And the only
way I could get the best teammateswas if I was the best teammate.
So you have to it is me. CJ Strius is an excellent teammate.
Gordon by all accounts, he's doingall the right things in the building.
We know he brings guys to Californiato workout, He's doing the philanthropic thing

(01:19:12):
and playing in the Cactus Jack whereStefan Diggs just happened to be there for
what's my guy, Travis Scott's Captain'sJack HBCU Tournament. CJ's doing all the
right things. We tease them aboutthe Amber Roll stuff. Still got my
eye on that, Like I expectCJ's leadership to take the next step as
well. And at the base ofall of this and why I have so

(01:19:35):
much optimism for the Houston Texans, who I think will win the division again
in year two. I think tenwins will be enough to get it done
again. Gordion. Ultimately, Ithink they're going end up beating up on
each other and the Texans will bethe last man standing type of deal.
Demiko Ryans. I don't think Demikois going to allow CJ to get ahead

(01:19:56):
of himself. And I just don'tthink that's his DNA. And he's also
got to run. Will Anderson isalso looking over there, like, bro,
I'm doing my thing over here too. Like we said, we were
going to keep it, keep themain thing the main thing, and so
I'm not worried about that. ButI thought that was excellent advice from the
goat Tom Brady. Yeah. Wejust My thing is though, we just
talk about the parody in the league, and it's you know, they they

(01:20:18):
overcame a lot last year to havethe season that they did. It's just
one of those things where it's likethe sleek is tough and CJ could be
the same productive quarterback he was ayear ago. Limit the turnovers, productive
through the air, accurate, youhad another weapon, It'stefon Diggs. But
at the end of the day, maybe it's a you're you're down by you

(01:20:41):
know, down by six late inthe game against New England and you're driving
in a fourth and one the balljust gets tipped at the line, and
you know what I mean, Like, there might be a couple of moments
like that this year. It doesn'tmean Domico's a bad coach. It doesn't
mean CJ's a bad quarterback and hasregressed. It just means it's a tough
league to win. Sometimes. Iuse this earlier in the off season.
CJ could become a better quarterback andstatistically take a step back, but his

(01:21:09):
actual on field execution better, hiscontrol of the locker room and gain management
better, but the numbers may notbe as Gordon. Or it could go
the other way. He could havea sophomore instead of a slump, he
could have a sophomore spurt and kaboom, he takes it to the next level.
I just get really excited about heand Demico together again. I have

(01:21:30):
the Texans on paper at ten andseven right now. I reserve the right
to amend that. Speaking of anotherteam in town that's doing what they can
to right some wrongs and to geta spurt of themselves. Houston Astros,
winner six at the last seven,in action again today as they are through
the weekend. The Milwaukee Brewers willbe in town tomorrow. Chandler Rome,

(01:21:54):
he writes for The Athletic, hedropped by the eighteen yesterday and so much
conversation, not just about the gamelast night, but the decision to suspend
Ronelle Blanco. We didn't have allof the pieces to the puzzle at the
time that we did this show yesterday. We now do. The MLB has
made their ruling as of yesterday beingday one of Ronelle Blanco's ten game suspension.

(01:22:17):
Chandler Rome was asked directly about thesuspension and how do we get here?
What did they know? I said, Joe Spotta, you have to
cover your own ass. Somebody tellme you told the pitching staff what was
and was not appropriate. Chandler Romegives us those details. The thing that
kind of shoot out to me alittle bit was that both Joe A.
Spotta and Renald Blanco kind of freelyacknowledged that Renald Blanco didn't know the rules,

(01:22:42):
that he didn't know that it wasillegal to have rosen on your glove
on your non throwing hand, soit sounds like that's something that look,
I don't think they need to.I don't think they need to tear everything
down and like you know, Idon't think this is a huge thing,
but I think they it's gonna causemaybe to review the rules again, just
to give him a refresher on whatto do, what not to do,

(01:23:03):
things like that, because that didn'tcome off as a great look. And
I would agree, Gordon, Ialso think there's nothing wrong here. I
think rone Blanco knew the rules.I think he chose to violate the rule.
By definition, that's cheating. Numbertwo. I think the MLB should
do a better job of being transparentand tell us what is the difference.

(01:23:26):
Why was Ronel Blanco not giving theopportunity to change gloves or wash his hands
that we've seen benefit other pictures thisseason, last season and the season before,
Like, what was it specifically,Gordon? They won't even tell us
what the substance was. If itwas just rosen cool it was on the
glove hand, it shouldn't be justtell us it's rosin and sweat and we
can move on. They will notrelease will the MLB what actually it was

(01:23:50):
in the glove that bothers me.And that's not fair to Ronell, and
that's not fair to the rest ofthe pictures in the league. Well,
let's also be roll here too. What if in a world where it was
rosin and sweat mixed by the timethat thing gets wrapped up and overnighted and
shipped to New York. When itgets up there, the sweat's dried.
So you know, again the CSIcrew gets to work on it. But

(01:24:13):
if you're not gonna find anything, even a spotter said real time, there
was a pasty white substance inside theglove when he went to the mound,
A spotter said himself, And nowwe know a spoder wasn't crazy. He
knew Blanco had violated the rule. And I'm gonna stand on that Blanco knew
exactly what he was doing. I'mnot buying that. And Dana Brown told
us they were informed. Now Astroswin the game last night because an ace

(01:24:39):
caliber pitcher went out. Dan tookcare of his business. Who we got
on the mountain night, Gordon? So is it er getta time homire back
on the mound tonight? We willbe over at min and May Park.
Matt Thomas Shall will take into theA team into Astros on debt. Enjoy
your Astros baseball tonight, God willing, we would do this again tomorrow for
Connedy McGovern, Chris Gordion's stay inNorthfleet, and all of you, yes
