(00:04):
Always fun rolling on here from SECMedia days, and always fun when we
get to talk with some of thenew SEC network analysts and a guy literally
just giving up his playing career andjumping into the media world. He is
Randall Cobb. Welcome in man,Thank you, thank you. I really
appreciate you. I've been It's beena fast two days for me. I've
been tossed around, pulled everywhere, but really excited to be stepping over and

(00:27):
still have the opportunity to be aroundthe game and talking about football. It's
crazy. I mean, this thingmust have happened quick because it feels like
yesterday the news was you were goingto the Jets, and then suddenly now
you're in the media world. Imean, what, how quickly does this
thing happen? Well, I've beenin communication with ESPN for a few months
now and I had a couple oftrial runs and we ever to get a

(00:47):
deal done, and I'm excited forthe opportunity. You know, right now,
I haven't dove into any football yet. I haven't even got the credentials
delgain to talk about to talk aboutall the teams and all the players.
So that's what I'm going to spendthe next month doing uh, giving me
the opportunity to catch up on lastseason and being able to prepare myself for

(01:08):
this next season. We had youin Houston with the Texans, and it
was a weird year, man.I mean, you had Deshaun Watson stuff
going on, You had the COVIDstuff happening. It just was. It
was a weird time. But it'sfunny. There was a comment you've made.
You know, you went back tothe Packers. You so it's like
going to a fortune five hundred company, and so the Texas were like a
startup and people criticized you for thatcomment. But in hindsight, random four

(01:32):
years later with CJ. Stroud andWill Landerson, I think you were right.
I saw it, you know.Unfortunately I came in at a time
right before the b Hop trade.Yeah, so d Hop trade happened.
I come in during training camp.Bill O'Brien gets fired four games into the
season. We don't have a headcoach, we don't have a GM.

(01:55):
It was a very weird landscape. We end up four and twelve and then
all of stuff with Deshaun comes outthat offseason the higher coal he as the
head coach. There was a lotof moving pieces. Uh but the glue
was Nick Casario and you could tellfrom day one when he had a conversation
with us as players that it wasgoing to be different. You know,

(02:16):
I was able to get traded backto Green Bay, where my career started
and where you know that was likehome for me. Uh So. But
but I've enjoyed watching Houston continue togrow as a as an organization, as
a team. I think he's builtan incredible roster uh in CJ. Stroud,
I mean him being at the leadershiprole that he is and being able

(02:39):
to have the success he had earlyin his career. I'm looking forward to
seeing that continued growth for him. Were you shocked, like all of us
to see the how I mean hejust so mature and poison for a rookie
quarter because we thought, you know, he's gonna go through normal rookie growing
pains. But I mean from dayone, the kid was a rock star
to want to play, get getto the players, but win a playoff
game in year one. I meanhe's the Skuy's the women for this kid,

(03:01):
I believe so. And what Ilove to hear is him talk about
the game when he talks x'es ando's. You know, he knows what
he's talking about. Uh, theway he talks about protections, the way
he talks about UH picking up blitzesand UH being able to get people in
the right position and making the playswhen they're there. And he's very efficient.

(03:22):
He moves around in the pocket reallywell. I really enjoy his style
of game. And now they alreadyhad Nico Collins or at one thousand yard
season. He gets paid. Theyget Tank Dell out of University of Houston
in the third round. He's wasawesome as a rookie. And I think,
go get Stefan Diggs with Joe Mixonin the backfield. I mean,
that's for sure. I think Ithink without a doubt, that's a that's

(03:45):
a lot of explosive plays. Yougot a great quarterback that can feed everyone
and give them a plethora of opportunities. You know, bringing in a guy
like Stefan Dicks, he's gonna needhis catches. You're gonna have to find
a way to get him the ball. Uh, but you have every piece.
It's gonna be hard to cover thatmany guys on the field. And
when you start getting those two highsafeties. That's when they're gonna start holding

(04:05):
handing off the Joe Mixon and he'sgonna be able to have a lot of
space with like boxes. I meanyou could make a phone call. I
mean the number four N put youin that. That's slide. I'm gonna
let I'm gonna let the young boyshave it now, Tucker the Randall Cobby
is joining the SEC network, SoI talk talk us through I guess with
the planets in studio analysts. Isthat where we're gonna say? Yes,

(04:26):
Yeah. So I'll start as anin studio analyst. I'll be covering college
football h Alyssa Lang out of Pocket, a show on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Uh SEC. Now, I'll bedoing a little bit of I'll have a
few opportunities on NFL Live, souh, just having a little bit of
crossover. I gotta like I said, I got a lot of catching up
to do on a college game andthe college product and and and I'm really

(04:50):
looking forward to diving into the filmreally because that's that's what I am.
I'm a film junkie. I liketo watch film. I like to learn
about guys and and and see howthey play We've had so many great SEC
players come through. We're here atSEC Media Days. Had so many different
players throughout the years, ro QuandSmith, calv Ridley, dudes who were
studs in college went on to bestuds and at the pro level. But

(05:10):
how difficult is it as a proplayer to keep up with your college team
and watch it because so usually onSaturdays you'll get ready for your game the
next day. It's a little morekeep up right, and then you add
kids to the max. My saturdaysare are a little pack. We're normally
at the park excuse me, orwe're out doing something with the kids.
So I've missed a lot of collegefootball over the past thirteen years. But

(05:33):
you know, whenever it's on,I'm able to watch it. I love
to sit down and keep up withSEC play and with my team, especially
Kentucky being able to get back,I have the opportunity to get back a
little bit more now that my season'sfreed up. It is great though,
I mean we I'm thinking of theanalysts who've had you know, Chris Doring
representing Florida. I mean, itseems like we have so many schools represented

(05:55):
Kentucky. It was we had TonyDelk basketball, but relevant haven't had a
Kentucky football analysts, so you getto be that guy now, the talking.
I look forward to being that andthen you know the big Blue Nation.
I know they're out there and they'reexcited, and I look forward to
being able to come back and bearound a little bit more. It's crazy
too talking about Mark Stoop's now oneof the most tenured head coaches in the
SEC. Been around a while, and they got some talent. I mean

(06:18):
they bring in the kids from Georgia, Brock Vandergriff, but the receivers Dame
Key, Barry and Brown. Imean, these kids are back again and
you start to look at and go, can they take that next stup?
And if they do, Kentucky's gonnastart to be a player here and make
some noise. And that's what makesthe SEC so difficult because you have your
heavy hitters, you have your Georgiajust in down Texas and Oklahoma coming in.

(06:41):
I have a dark Horse and ConnorWigman from Texas, A and M.
I think that across the board, you have so many teams that can
really have an opportunity late in theyear, and it's really just setting yourself
up for success early in the seasonto give yourself an opportunity late in the
year. But I think that's whatit's going to be a transition for Texas

(07:03):
and Oklahoma coming into the league. Is there's no down week. Uh,
the Kentucky's will sneak up on you. The Arkansas will sneak up on you
if you play down a little bit. Yeah, I keep telling those people
it's same Baylor and Kansas. Man, it's different. You road trip at
Arkansas. You may be Pennsylvania,w but man, if you if you
don't bring your a game every week, you're gonna get beat in this league.

(07:25):
Uh. Talking with Randall copy hereor the SEC network. Uh okay,
so we talked football in Houston.Didn't go well, But did you
at least enjoy your time in Houston? It was cod Oh. Man,
you don't want to get to doanything. I mean we were able to
go to a few restaurants, butat that time in the NFL exactly,

(07:46):
and we were getting tested every day. And I don't know if you remember,
but during that time, it waslike you could get fined if you're
out in public and get caught outin public doing stuff I wish, I
wish we could redo it, andwe get to redo it. Get you
can visit. I'll try to comeback and visit. He is Rendall cop
Randall, thanks a bunch of thetime, and I really appreciate it.
Thank you. Thanks for having mefor one more right after this
