Stan Norfleet and Chris Gordy of Next Up review the final preseason game for the Houston Texans, which concluded in a 17-15 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Backup quarterback Case Keenum headed to the locker room during Saturday's preseason game with an arm injury. Running back Cam Akers rushed for 53 yards on seven carries against his former team. Will Keenum stay on the roster as the third quarterback, and will Akers be higher on the depth chart than Dameon Pierce? Stan and Chris also discuss the Astros splitting the four-game road series with the Baltimore Orioles following Sunday's 6-3 victory. The Astros are now 4.5 games ahead of the Seattle Mariners in the AL West. Ronel Blanco will start on the mound Monday to open a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
And there is oh else.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Connade McGovern in his usual perch. Appreciate him now that
I can see him on the other side of the
glass there and let's hang out for a couple hours.
Let's talk some shops, shall we? Busy weekend for me
sounds like many of us. Well, guys, we were Monica's birthday,
so we were out moving around a little bit. That
will carry on into this week. You know, I'm headed

(01:24):
over to Austin to DKR on Saturday. I was over
NRG Gordon on Saturday to watch what some would say
is a meaningless football game, as the Texans hosted the Rams.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Future pharmaceutical salesman or.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Sports star radio show hosts however you prefer. Nonetheless, there
were some things to take away from that game. We
will do a deep dive on that. No, Gordy, when
I would like to get into the college football world,
as there's already been a top ten upset to kick
off this season, Florida State goes down at the hands
of ACC fold Georgia Tech on.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
The ACC Overrated, overrated, ACC.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
How about underrated. We've been kicking assing this conference a
long time. Thank you. I'm gonna beat up on one another.
We're gonna have an eight and five ACC chick. Now
we're getting two teams in the twelfth. You know it
and I know it? All right?

Speaker 3 (02:12):
What else should we discuss? Oh, there's this thing called
the Houston Astros. In their plight to get to an
eighth consecutive ALCS that must start by getting into the
postseason strolls split the series versus a good Baltimore oriole sin.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Bit of sweep, could have, should have.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
We will discuss all the ways on why we did
or did not get that accomplished. Of course, we'll take
your phone calls seven one three, two one two five,
seven ninety. I am hitting refreshed all night, all morning,
and will continue to do so. As Demiko Ryans addressed
the media at nine am this morning, and I am
awaiting and I have not refreshed in the last hour.

(02:51):
The Texans roster cuts as some teams, I believe Jacksonville
and Indianapolis have already released a dozen or so players.
We know that the rosters must get down from ninety
two fifty three by three pm local time tomorrow. I
would like to think the Miko and Cassio would do
a courtesy to their guys. Let's get you on the

(03:13):
wave of wire sooner than later so that you can
land where you need to land. There's gonna be a
lot of things in hell. Since we're here, let's do this.
We'll back up. We're back door into the Astros Gordy,
I think the fifty three man is essentially done. I
don't know that there are many surprises, but there may
be some based on what we saw Saturday. Okay, look,

(03:40):
let me just not bear to leave for me when
it comes to Texas. Let's be Frank, Gordiya.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
All's wrong.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
I thought cam Akers was gonna be a camp body.
He's now the second running back on this team Damian Pierce,
who didn't play for whatever reason. Damian Pierce has been
granted all his favor over there at NRG. According to
the coaching staff. He doesn't play and again against backups.
But we've seen it. Every time we see cam Akers,
we see him do things that we've yet to see

(04:09):
Damian Pierce do. But Demico Ronz is telling us post
game he's seen everything he needs to see from DP.
In practice, cam Akers is the running back towo on
this team. But I'm tired of trying to fight it.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah, I mean, I mean, wait, So when you're saying
cam Akers is the number two, is that that's that's
your opinion. That's my opinion.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
I think that when they set the fifty three man
going into two weeks from yesterday, when they're up in Indianapolis.
I think the second running back to take the field
should be Cam Akers. Will it be I'm not sure?
So why do they keep see I think it's the
other one. I think every every text I got over
the weekend was people saying Cam Bakers should be the backup,

(04:48):
he should be the number two.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
He just right, But they're telling us, yes, it's Damian Pierce,
which they don't even need to play. He's already locked
up the number two spots. Crazy. Look, I think it's
a little bit of you know, the Caserio. He's my
draft pick. We saw how electric he was rookie year.
We think he can get back to that. Look at
what he did in the return game last year. We

(05:11):
think he's gonna be fine. The problem is, again, it's preseason.
I guest, it's you know, training camp and all that.
But do we see Damian Pierce do anything in camp?
He's done nothing in these preseason games. Like, how do
we even know he's good enough to be the number two?
Other than well, we're going on past evaluation and you know,
we trust that that's the guy. And it's like camp

(05:32):
Akers has looked awesome, Like time will tell, like maybe
they end up Camp Bakers is the number three. They
all three guys make the final cut. Yes, you know,
we expect Joe Mixon is gonna be healthy and ready
to go for week one. That's at least what they've
told us. But maybe this thing plays out. Stay. I mean,
maybe we get in Indianapolis and it's Joe Mixon and

(05:52):
then Pierce behind him, and Pierce one carry one yard
second carrying loss of one you know what I mean,
And then like they the next week, they got all right, well,
let's move Acres up to two, like, maybe this thing
will work itself out. But I'm with you. I think
this is more of a Cassario front office bravado of No,
it sucked right this, sir, draft. But look at Jamian Pierce.
Truck cracker.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Demico told us that last week. Demiko said, the offensive
line has miss assignments. There are runs there that we
aren't getting. They just always missing when pierces when he's there,
I'm watching, damn cam Acres is spin left spin left,
spin left is like he's pressing it used to be circle?
Is it still circle? On the I was gonna call

(06:31):
it a joystick on the control lot. Yeah, like I've
watched every runner back on this team have a moment
or two. Hell, British Brooks look good again. Now understand
it's relative to who he's going up against. I would
love to see cam Akers with this number one offensive line, who,
by the way, we didn't see again on Saturday. Not
that we would, we knew we wouldn't. But I'm going

(06:53):
we haven't seen this offensive line all five together, all year,
all camp, I should say. And they're getting ready. It's
it's going in a game week time, and I don't know,
even though you have three veterans up there, Excuse me,
I'm being choked up, Sorry about that. I don't know
that the continuity is there at a comfort level that

(07:15):
I'm cool with. So that's the running back room. I
think darray A Gombawale is going to make it. So
those are your four backs who And then some people
are going to say, because I heard this come up
over the weekend, staying, does it really matter who the
hell back to and back three are? If they keep
all four, including Day, then it's just gonna be a
matter of formation and a matter of circumstance. And so

(07:39):
you start getting in the matchups and that's a fair point.
But the surprising thing is cam Makers has made this team.
I also don't think, and there's a submidget of a chance, Gordon,
that Damian Peerce is being loved on and protected because
they're going to deal him. I'm not reporting that, I'm
not suggesting they do that. I'm acknowledging that it's a possibility.

(08:02):
Would it surprise you, Gordy if it's announced while we're
on the air sometime.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
This afternoon, because what are you gonna get for him?
A mid round? A sixth? I just at that point,
it's like a right, I think he's better for you
on your roster than not. He's doing nothing, so you
literally nothing, so you would roll. But but look at
what he did in special teams last year, like there's something,

(08:27):
there's something. Yes, he's an NFL player and he's a
fourth round pick cost barely any money, doesn't cost anything.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
He's an NFL player. We know what he was the
rookie season, the return game last year, get it. But
this is about right now. This is a super Bowl
caliber roster. Damian Pierce right now has not shown me. Now.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
I don't coach him. I just watched him like the
rest of us if his head coach says that he's good.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
I'm just wondering if the head coach is having a
little bit of gamesmanship there with the rest of the
league trying to protect Damian Pierson's back.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Well, you said, why does it matter, I'll tell you this,
And Mix has been mostly healthy his career, yes, but
already in a Texans uniform, he has missed time. So
to just assume, wow, he's gonna get healthy here ahead
of Week one, you need to play all seventeen games
and then they'll playoffs.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
No, no, no, no.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
I want you to have that same energy that you
have about the Astros and all the arms that were
banged up, staying they're gonna get healthy. Mix is gonna
be healthy. I want you to have the same energy
about Joe Mixon. I think saying is someone who did
a fantasy draft last night. Like people start grabbing the handcuffs,
you start grabbing the backup to Jonathan Taylor because what
if he gets hurt? You start grabbing the backup to

(09:38):
this guy.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
So with the Texas it matters like backup, it is
more than likely, Like I would put the odds as
a as a favorite that Mixing is going to miss
at least one game this year, and if he does,
you better be damn sure you got a solid backup.
And if that's Damian Pierce, yeah, I don't know. How
confident do you feel that. I think most people would
say from what they've seen throughout training camp in the

(09:58):
preseason that came Akers has looked more productive than anything
Damian Pierce. There's nothing you can tell me, fan or coach.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
There's nothing you can tell me that you've seen from
Damian Pierce in twenty twenty four training camp in preseason
that tells you he's a better running back right now
than what Cam Akers has shown us.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
You just can't. So what does that mean to them
at NRG. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
We continue to refresh our x dot com to see
when the announcement comes down. On the other side, somebody
that's not going to play, but their position on this
Texas team speaks volumes may surprise you on the other side.
Getting warmed up. On a Monday, Sports Talk seven ninety
real textans talking.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Listen Next Up continues on your computer. Listen to Sports
Talk seven ninety on any device with our free iHeartRadio.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
Apps Done a really nice job since we got him,
got him late there in training camp, but he's he's
stepped in, he's done a really nice job, and everyone
sees like when he gets the ball in his hands
in the games, he's able to make definish miss and
he's able to continue to press forward and make plays.

(11:15):
So exciting, right, And it's also it's tough, right, And
it's also I love that it's tough to make these
decisions because that means you have a good football team.
And when it's not just set, you know, you still
have decisions to make. That's how it should be cut it.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Jamiic o'ryans post game sat down there with the rest
of the media taking questions about the final preseason game
versus the Rams. By the way, the Texans go three
and one in the preseason, Uh, they win what seventeen
to fifteen over the Rams For those that are keeping
score and had that Hall of Fame game versus the
Bay has not been cut short due to inclement weather

(11:52):
in the third quarter.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Who knows?

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Com back the Texans comeback preseason in the preseason Gordon,
it doesn't.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Count, but it matters. It doesn't matter. It does matter
to the men that put on helmets and mats. The
Colts would go on oh and four every year in
the postseason.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
So you're trying to make a connection that the preseason
impacts the postseason. I'm saying the preseason by itself in
a vacuum, guys need to go get work.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Winning is habitual board and anybody who matters really didn't
get work in the preseason. And therein lies the problem
because there's the head coach, there's a head coat. You
can't laugh at something you don't know about, like this
is we're talking about that. You know, I've seen teams
go winning Super Bowls.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
We're talking about don't play in the pres were talking
about the work if those starters are Hall of famers,
like what the Coats had with Peyton Manning and Ed
James and all those guys different This much is in
their second year with a head coach that's in his
second season with a self more quarterback. The roster they
have together, Tell me how often you've seen them together

(12:52):
when you haven't had the reps together. The preseason matters.
I'm just making fun that. Look at the record. We
haven't talked about it. Also, the Miko Ryans who was
in town, Shannon Sharp and o Cho Senko the Night Camp,
very popular podcast. I did not make it over to
the House of Blues. I was with Monica, we were
having a nice time. Did not make it over. I
did see they brought Demico Ryans out on stage, and

(13:14):
they brought Andre Johnson out on stage as well. So
that stuff you're circulating on social if you want to
go find that, all right, So the running back thing
is what it is. Pierce, I think is gonna make
it outside outside chance he gets dealt Sam cam A
excuse me, It's clearly gonna make it. Daar Ray's probably
going to make it real quick on k Makers.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
You Puty Stocking when he was getting in and doing
what he did, you're playing doing up against a bunch
of third and fourth stringers.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
At the end of the day. A those are still
dues because I saw him do it against twos. So
those are still dudes that are going to play b
When he was practicing against the Texan starters, we saw
video of cam Akers getting busy. See he's a second
round pick that has been in this league. He has
the I agree and have shown against once when healthy

(14:03):
he can get it done as well. Cam Makers, as
long as he's healthy, is legitimate back in the league.
I'm not telling you he's a top sixteen back. I'm
just telling you I look at his specific case and
I go, yeah, he gets benefit of the dou Who
else Daria Gumbawalle does not get the same benefit of
the doubt for example. Though I'm not saying they don't,

(14:24):
I'm saying he doesn't have the body of work that
cam Makers does.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
These will be interesting because I think there are some
cases in decisions where we just assumed Dimiko has full
not full control the roster. But you can get what
I'm saying. Like, I think there are gonna be some
cases with some of these guys where Cassio overrules the
GM and I like Daria Ogibale. I want I'm the
GM and I drafted Damion Pierce. I want to believe

(14:51):
that Cassario and Dimiko. As much as they say this
is a collaborative approach and it is, there are points
in the draft where Caserio goes them. Even in free agency, Demiko,
I understand you prefer that guy, but our staff believes
this guy has a similar ability and cost two million
dollars a year less.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
I'm going with this guy, coach him up. I also
believe conversely, there are times that Caserio goes, hey, what
about this right here, and Demico goes, hey, my staff
and I our eyeballs tell us that guy should go
on game dy opposed to that guy. So I think
those lines are more defined even though they talk, but

(15:33):
they are always on the same page.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
You could be right. I'm not in the room. I'm
just saying that's what's being reported.

Speaker 3 (15:39):
Roster Demiko in terms of game day management, draft, free agency,
accumulation of players, Caserio and then they work on the
great area. Speaking of one of those players, I asked
Demiko about this post game from Saturday. One of the
sneaky things I'm waiting to see is they handle this

(16:01):
quarterback situation. What I mean is Davis Mills has clearly
been defined as the second running up. Good lord, the
second quarterback is a Monday, and it's ring Davis Mills
is number two.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
He should be.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
They told us the same thing last year, So hopefully
we won't have to see a backup quarterback and then
we'll evaluate what they do when they get there.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
But case Keingdam goes out there and he gets yanked.
Let me not say that.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
He leaves the game with three and a half minutes
remaining in the first quarter. We all watched the same football.
I put it up on my social lat Stand Sportsman
in real time. Sitting next to Adam J. Wesley in
the press box. Davis Mills is not this team's backup quarterback.
I don't believe Davis Mills can help a football team
win a game. Right now, Davis Mills is likely going

(16:46):
to make this team. He is beloved in the lockers.
The backup, though, the backup of Dave's Mills. Okay, you misspoke.
Then you said Davis Mills is locked the backup. No,
David Davis Mills is the backup. Is not confusing me
because well before that, if you were listening, I said,
Davis Mills the backup.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
No, But then you said Davis Mills is not the backup.
I said, white another both the mediocre average quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
They look the same, They're crappy. The conversation is case
Keenum and what do they do. He is beloved in
the locker room. He should a coach carries a lot
of weight. They're going to keep him on the roster.
The thing I'm going to be waiting for is how
do they do it?

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Now?

Speaker 3 (17:27):
There are those that believe I was on social media
going back and forth with some folks and something funky happened.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
In the press box. The Texans did not announce the injuries.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Like when Brandon Hill goes out the game, we see
him get caught off, but they don't announce.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Is it leg back?

Speaker 1 (17:44):
Quaw ain't saying anything. Maybe the Asterisks were running their
injury report very.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Well, did Brandon He'll sleep wrong. We'll get the Joann
Alvarez coming up in his next segment. But I asked myself, like, okay,
what do you do with case here? He's going to
be on the roster. I agree with you, Gordy, he
should be. He should be a coach at this point,
all right, how do they do this? And this is
not just for a case matter of fact? Do we

(18:08):
have that? I asked specifically, I asked the MIKO about, Hey,
Kate leaves the game. It is rumored he left due
to injury. He misses John Mitchi in an easy ass
route ride open in the middle of the field. He's
sitting there and he's lucky. He didn't throw not one
but two interceptions. Case was awful. He wasn't good last
year when they put him in the game both games.

(18:30):
Go look at the passer rating, go look at the
QB on it was abysmal. He got my win though
he's not good. He didn't get them a win. The
team won when he was out there. Big difference. Demiko
case Keenum did not play past three and a half
minutes in the first quarter. Some are saying he's hurt.
What is your comfortability like with your backup quarterback situation?

Speaker 4 (18:52):
Yeah, we have a lot of discussions to make, so
guys asked a lot about the roster and all those things.
Those questions be answered as the week goes on. As
you sit here right now today, no decisions has been
made on anyone.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
So you don't know who's second team. So Demko has
no idea who the quarterback two is of his team.
One dressed, the other one didn't. It's come on, it's
Davis Mills. I mean, I don't even think I think
we're talking about this is the second year they've done this.
They started case that last year because I think they
just thought but everybody their brother. We all thought that
week it was gonna be Davis Mills. I think what
Davis has done throughout this presets I think Davis has proven.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
He gonna be thought that last year.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
What is wrong with the head coach just simply acknowledging
Davis didn't play today. Because Davis is our too, We'll
evaluate the injury of what's going on. If there is
an injury with case, we'll deal with that on a
case by case basis. Davis Mills has won the second
quarterback spot. Why won't he just say that this is
the second year we're dealing with this. BS, just tell
us who the damn quarterback two is so we can

(19:48):
move on the thing that's intriguing because of the NFL rules.
If Davis is injured, don't know the severity of it.
He's been banged up dealing with a calf all year,
all training camp. I should say there are rulesing NFL
that allow you to kind of protect two people on
injured reserve where you can designate them to return and
it doesn't necessarily impact your fifty three man roster. Some people,

(20:12):
talking with some folks in the press box over the weekend,
they believe there is an outside chance that if Davis
was released and put to the practice squad, somebody would
come grab him. Now, there's a special emergency quarterback exemption
that the league added two years ago, and so we'll
see how that plays out. Point being is there are

(20:32):
several guys Charlie, heck, do they release them? Do they
put them on IR? Give me somebody else that's on IR?

Speaker 1 (20:39):
What do they do with them? Oh, Christian Harris?

Speaker 3 (20:43):
What you doing?

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Christian Harris?

Speaker 3 (20:45):
Okay, obviously he's gonna make you fifty three. Then you
put him on the eye on. He's got to miss
the minimum four games. So then what other linebacker goes
in that slot? So you're gonna start. We can go
up and down the roster and how does Iar impact
what's going on here?

Speaker 1 (21:02):
We'll come back.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
I probably misspoke about Jordon and whatever's going on with
his scapula. Didn't see Jordon in three of the four
games over the weekend. We will go also other just
little tibbits that we saw the Texans in terms of
roster predictions, and I misspoke again on the Monday. That's
Caserio coming up on Wednesday at nine am. Demico Ryans
at eleven you can stay right here for that as

(21:24):
we'll have some tidbits from de Miko here what he
has to say. Have not seen any other updates as
it pertains to the Texans roster. Homer Houston Sports Sports
Talk seven.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
Eight with Jordon. Next up pictures Tremble with fear, You're
right out the rest hold on Coup three, run over
with north Fleet and Gordion. Next up Bellies, Tremble with Hunger.
Lunchtime is so close until then show down on more.

(21:54):
Next up.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
For us, say, how do you find balance? I think
it'll be week by week depending on what who has
to hot hand. If we if that defense that week
dictates that we throw the ball, Mord then will rely
on throwing the football because we have we feel like
we have a good core group at their receivers and
tight end to be able to throw the ball around

(22:21):
and when we need to run it whenever it calls
for that feel like we have. You know, Joe can
do a great job of running the ball for as well.
So I think it's just weekly. It'll change depending on
who we're facing and where we feel like our strengths
are needed for that particular week.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Excuse me, postgame following the victory over the Rams. For
those that are keeping score seventeen to fifteen Texas win,
we know this is really about the roster. A lot
of backups play, a lot of dudes gonna get released.
The Miko's gonna address us in about twenty five minutes.
You can stay locked right here as we will carry
some of that for you in comment on what the

(22:58):
head coach has to say. Unless I miss my guests,
we will hear from Demico first. Then the cuts will
come out, probably immediately following that or shortly that. After all,
NFL teams must be down to fifty three not including
your IR designations, by three pm local time tomorrow. Most
teams going to get a jump start on that to
give the guys a fair shaker catching on early before

(23:21):
other teams start slicing the dicing. In the AFC South,
the Texans and the Tennessee Titans are the only two
teams that have not begun announcing cuts as of yet.
The Colts have, as well as the Jaguars, notable names.
Their safety Ronnie Harrison for the Colts is a name
got played at Alabama. Do believe wide receiver Greg Ward

(23:44):
anybody else who's over there in Jacksonville that people may know.
Denzel Mims got released wide receiver from them. That's about it.
I don't think there's anybody else that you all, at
least the casual NFL ers would know by name.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
So we'll wait to see.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
One of the other things I reminded somebody of having
a conversation. Oh, I got John Hickman of Locked on
Texans part he's been on his show, I've been on
my show. On his show, we were talking about the
roster and everybody's asking the same thing in the media.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
What do you think? What do you think? Djbnemy of
ESPN dot com.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
He and I had a round table with some of
my guys, Kim Davis over there as well.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
My man Ron was a part of that as well.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
We were all just sitting around talking shop about what
this Texans fifty three will look like. And one of
the things specifically in talking with John Hickman of Locked
on Texans, I reminded him is NFL teams will typically
wait till week two and that's when they'll go get
their veteran. There's something in the CBA about if a

(24:47):
veteran with x amount of years of service is signed
in week one, you basically owe him a year's worth
the salary guaranteed, Whereas if you're bringing me in going
into week two, you can go week the week based
on on whatever his elevation is practice, squad cut flat
out right, or on your active roster. So keep those

(25:08):
things in mind, and that's where Casario has to really
get in there. That's the other part of GMing that
doesn't get a lot of spotlight because it's quite frankly
not great radio or television, if you will, but it
matters in terms of the construction of your team. Who
do you designate at what, how do you sneak people through,
how do you go claim somebody before one of your
competitors claim somebody? What do you pay see it person?

(25:30):
How does that impact the cap now and moving forward?
Who's going to be a game day guy, Who's somebody
to get you through a week of practice. All of
those things matter. That's why Caserio makes those millions hard
to do. Case in point, let's move the conversation. You
want to get in and talk some Texas. I haven't
done this yet seven one three, two, one two, five,
seven ninety. You want to get in and talk Texans

(25:51):
with Gordon and I wide receiver Robert Woods didn't play
on Saturday. That mean they think he's making the roster.
I don't know that that's the prudent thing to do.
Where Robert Woods get claimed by somebody else if he
was released?

Speaker 1 (26:11):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (26:12):
So with John Mitchie, So with Ben Scronnick, who else
is out there? I'm missing somebody? Who's another receiver out there?

Speaker 4 (26:21):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (26:21):
So is Xavier Hutchinson. So with Stephen Simms, how do
they navigate this wide receiver deal? Some people are saying, stand,
they're gonna keep seven receivers. So I'm saying stand, I
think they're gonna keep six. If you look at who
went out there at receiver, the guys that played on Saturday,
there's Xavier Hutchison, Quentin Cephis, John Johnson, John Metchie, Steven Sims,

(26:48):
Ben Skarnnick. Dudes that went out there. So if you
include Noah Brown is another guy. Norah Brown's been dealing
with a showlder all camp in the preseason. Is he
a guy that's gonna be dead native for IR? Which
helps one of these receivers that would be cut make
the team. So let's just talk for the moment that

(27:08):
Noah Brown is not put on ir Noah Brown is
likely your fourth receiver. I think they just told us
that Robert Woods is your sixth receiver?

Speaker 1 (27:20):
Am I saying that? Right? Four? No fifth? So then
point is Gordon of who played Saturday? In your mind?
Who is the sixth receiver? I don't think Saturday have
much as much bearing on who.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
Since the last time the team played. It doesn't matter.
I'm just saying.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
I mean, so we know the top three, right, Diggs down,
Dal Collins. That's society. So who's four or five? Six?
We just said who four was? Is Noah Brown? I
said Robert Woods in it. But Noah Brown is banged up.
I think he starts. I just say, assume he's not
going on ion, Okay, but he is. He's not. We're
gonna be ready for week one, and you know this,
I mean, have we seen him. I'm asking you a question.

(27:56):
To get it, I would I would put eighty five
percent likely Noah Brown starts the season on nine.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Maybe you're right, Maybe don't. For the sake of the exercise,
Let's presume the majority of the season nor Brown's gonna
be four.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
So I would put Brown four, Hutch five and base
on what John Mitchi's done this whole offseason, I'd put him, sir.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
So you're cutting Robert Woods, Skronick, Steven Sims, Quinte Cephas
and Johnny Johnson are probably gonna be practice squad candidates.
So you're really talking about Skronnick, Robert Woods, and Steven Sims.
You're cutting those three, all three who have a unique
skill set unlike any of the other people at the position.

(28:34):
Steven Sims is the best return on this team. We
know that Vin Skronick is the most versatile receiver on
the team. We know that Robert Woods veteran. You get
some of that in Steph Diggs. Robert Woods big body,
you get that in Nico Collins, a lot of that
in Nico Collins. So I think Robert Woods is the
most replaceable. But and you save money moving Robert Woods

(28:56):
off the roster. The question ending why any ploy ons
are why jeopardize the health of some of the guys
that they feel would make the ROSTA I.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
Don't have the answer. I mean, the Woods thing is
going to come down, like the money do they do?
They want to keep him at that dollar dollars and cents,
so they want to save a little bit of money.
You know, somebody willing. I don't think at his age
and where he is, I don't think you get a
trade completely trade No, I don't think anybody would want to.
People know you're gonna cut him, So why would I

(29:24):
trade you for if you cut him? Yeah, I think
I think cuts most likely for Woods. But I think
when it comes to receivers and making a team, I
understand the whole idea of oh, we need a guy
that you know can catch or a guy who can
be a return specialist that I just look at. I
need pass catches for my franchise quarterback and anything. But

(29:44):
if anything happened, but you know that odds are likely
Dell digs in Collins and I could stay healthy seventeen
games a seeon.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
So that's when you get into the receiver four, receiver five.
So when you're talking about receiver five, six, and maybe seven,
these are all dudes that have to be able to
do something else. So that's I'm not disputing. Like John Minchi,
he's not a special teams guy. They keep trying to
put him out there as like he's a return Now
by the way, speaking of special teams. My guy Daz
mcken the second moped the punt. We didn't see him again.

(30:13):
They start sending back. I think they sent back Steven
see Hims. After that they stopped letting him. Think JJ
Taylor went back there one time, so I don't know.
I will find out. I think they think Robert Woods
is on the team. Scronic I probably missed on that
one too. He was banged up during camp. When he's
been in there, he's done some good. But I just

(30:35):
think in that competitive room Schronick might be the odd
man out on this one. Yeah, maybe they feel like
they can sneak him through and add a veteran to
the practice squad.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
And what did did they give a pick for him?
They did trade the Rams him. They gave up for seven.
I think, yeah, I just I don't like doing that.
Gives a future draft pick for a guy that doesn't
even make their roster. Well, see, uh, let's do this.
Let's go in the other side of the ball. Offensive line.
What we saw from Saturday, not a ton to take
away from there. But as we start to softly put

(31:07):
together fifty three, what do we see from the offensive
line group? And there's still a position I continue to
be more concerned about, and there could have been an
option on the field on Saturday for this said position group.
More to come next up Fleet Gordo Sports Talk seven
ninety the legendary.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Kbmme when Fleet streets Houston listens.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
Yes, I have a great shot already a huge brand.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
I'm liking your stuff.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Statn or Fleet ten Chris Gordy are next on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
Head coach Demiko Ryans is going to address us at
eleven am. Approximately. You can stay locked right here as
we will air that come in about what we have
to hear from the ball coach over at RG Welcome back,
appreciate everybody that state with us throughout the first hour
of his program. Final segment to wrap up to ten
o'clock hour on a Monday feels like a damn Monday too.

(32:02):
Rain on the ground out there. Everybody be safe, thanks
to all of you who have us preset number one
on the audio dial or streaming us via Sports seven
ninety dot com or the free iHeartRadio app. All right, Gordi,
there were offensive linemen on the field on Saturday. A
lot of dudes that won't be playing meaningful snaps.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
We hope.

Speaker 3 (32:26):
We know the starting five, the reserves, for the backups
for the offensive line. Jared Patterson is gonna make this team.
Nick Broker, who can play both guard and tackle's gonna
make this team.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
That's two. Kendrick Green is gonna make this team. That's three.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
So, including the starting five, that's eight offensive lineman. Is
there anybody else that you think is going to make
the team on the old line, whether they played on
Saturday or not.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
I mean, I think you gotta be you gotta have
several guys. I don't know. I mean we're eight right there. Yeah,
I just I keep not and I don't like what
I've seen out of any of the backup sir.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
So you think somebody is going to Cameron Irvan, I
think it's gonna get cut, Chris Reek cut, Charlie Heck
is gonna be on either the pup or the ir uh.
I think they're gonna keep the guy he wasn't even
on the game day roster. Who's the foreign guy? I
can never say his name? Theeter Iceland, No, No, Killian's Air.

(33:27):
He's gonna be your international player designee. So if there
anybody else on this old line that you feel is
gonna make it. I don't see it. I don't know
that Iceland is gonna make it. I just think my
opinion is like once you get to those oh yeah, Blake,
fetch your officer. But like, once you get to those guys,

(33:48):
I don't know. I mean, I think you're kind of
screwed anyway.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Like it's you got you gotta find a way to
stay healthy as much as possible with these starting five.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
Well, obviously if you don't, and the history of the
league says that you want, you're gonna need guys to
come in. You also gonna need these young guys. Juice Scrugs.
I understand he's the second round pick. He has to
play better. Juice Scrugs wasn't great last year. He wasn't terrible,
but he was a rookie. He has to improve. You're

(34:18):
the pivot man. I need you to be on your
a game. Bro or CJ can't do the CJ things.
And Ken Youngreen again, he's in the starting five. Let's
see what he does. And you two, but you bring
up something there and I just an overall thought, I'm curious, Connor,
you get in on this. If you want uh seven
one five sep. Ninety you want to comment on this

(34:39):
and looking at this fifty three man roster what we
project to be the fifty three all of a sudden, Gordon,
this team is not as deep as I thought it was.
When I see, like when you see the names and
then I go look at four preseason games and the
requisite practices leading up. This team in deep as I

(35:03):
thought they were. They're deeper than they were a year ago.
But it's still shaky in a lot of areas to me,
Like linebacker Never Hewitt is gonna make this team. I
believe Jake Hanson is gonna make this team. Told told,
like you started looking at is there really depth at
the linebacker spot? How much depth is there really along

(35:24):
the offensive line? In the secondary? Is Linney Johnson making
this team? I don't think so well.

Speaker 1 (35:34):
I mean, yeah, it well, because you're only gonna keep
for safeties, right, So Jimmy Warton, Jalen Petrie starters. We
think Kaitln Bullock has made.

Speaker 3 (35:44):
The Strasser's at your four and then at corner. I
mean a guy that I like, Dan's mc cheen the
second may be in trouble hell they cut him last year,
nice muffin punts out there against Scrubs in the fourth
preseason game.

Speaker 1 (35:59):
He might get clo one, I said from the get go.
And now they've got Petrie. He was sitting on the
scrap people last year. It's like, and then we're just
gonna assume he's gonna come back and he's gonna start.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
Like, let me go back to a guy, go back
to a position group rather you mentioned safety. They brought
in Miles Bryant from New England to play the nickel,
but they actually like him more at safety. I think
Miles Bryant might make this team as a guy that's
better at the safety spot and back up at nickel

(36:28):
than he is as the start nickel. So who starts
a nickel when they go out there and nickel personnel
to start? I anticipate Jalen Petrie will be that guy.
And then you'll see Eric Murray come into the game.
So you think, so, then who's your who's the backup safety?

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Now, who's the starting free safety is? If Petrie's the nickel,
Jimmy Ward probably No, I don't like that.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
Yeah, I need him to come out, So that means
you gotta called Eric Murray back, and I don't like
Eric Murray back then either.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
This is where you get into I feel like they
should added a couple of more provins.

Speaker 3 (37:03):
If they get into a true situation where the ball
is indeed flying over their heads, so to speak. I
think you would see I think they have confidence in
Kayln Bullock to put him in the center field.

Speaker 1 (37:15):
If need be, I'd put my I'd probably even say
Miles Bryant, you're you're the knickel if you're starting Miles
Brown at nickel over Jalen Petrick, Yeah, because I have
got Petri and Warris my two six. What I'm saying
is that the nickel is all predicated to what the
offense does. Right, If the offense comes out in three wide,
they're gonna NFL teams spend two third of the time

(37:36):
in nickel, all of them, regardless if they're three four
four three team. The way modern football is played, you're
gonna be in nickel sixty six seventy percent of the time.
So let's just assume they break the huddle first down,
toe toes out there. I believe Jalen Petrie's gonna be
at safety, maybe at the free and Jimmy wars at
the strong.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
Okay, cool, second down, second and ten. I think Petrie
stays Henry Told Told runs off, Eric Murray runs on.
Eric Murray becomes one of the safety Petrie now becomes
your star or your Nickel, and you roll.

Speaker 1 (38:09):
That's what I think happens. Yeah, I don't know. I'd
rather would say Myles Bryant, you got the slot, Petrie,
you roam so.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
All this time that Petrie's been excelling at the new
Nickel spot. You don't love it, right, I mean they
may that, they may go that route. We'll see. I'm
more worried about stopping Jonathan Taylor week one. That's what
I'm worried about.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
So if he needs to play down closer to the box, whatever,
whoever's covering the slot, you cover the slot. Like I
just I need I need to saw that Jonathan Taylor.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
They just gave big money to who's our guy, Michael
Pittman just got big money in the off season.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
They're gonna throw the ball. Well, I'll just look at
the teams. What you're saying about Anthony Richardson last week?
Oh No, I'm like, I'm just not Maybe that's a
challenge you love the box and say the ball. Yeah,
I'm just not as big a believer. He clearly can play.
I'm not saying he shouldn't be in the league. I'm
just saying I'm not as big that Anthony Richardson is

(39:09):
gonna put the Colts on his back and lead them
to a division crown and and he may. I just don't.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
I don't think he's trustworthy. But overall, looking at the roster,
it's a good roster. We had some debate in the
press box on Saturday. Is this the best the most
talented Texans roster top to bottom? There were those that
wanted to debate it. I think there are other Texans
teams that have been more top heavy. We'll see what

(39:38):
Demiko says coming up here in about three minutes or so,
stay right here in Sports Talk seven ninety we would
hear from the head coach, and then I think we
will see some transactions afterwards. Gord, if people had a
good weekend and there's a holiday weekend approaching something refreshing
and bubbly for the people, please well.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
More importantly tonight, if you're looking to you know, knock
on wourk a little early out somewhere to go watch
the Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies. Might I recommend our
friends over Carbock Brewing mark your calendars today, starting at
five thirty, it will be an Astros watch party over
at Carbock Brewing out there in the beer garden. They're
gonna have the Astros versus the Phillies on out in

(40:17):
the beer garden, having some cool giveaways, food and beer
specials and more. Like we said, watch party starts at
five thirty. And yeah, look, there's been a little rain
in the area, but it's kind of cool. Things off.
We're not even gonna touch ninety today according to the forecast,
So rain should clear out somewhere around two three o'clock
and that means five o'clock, six o'clock, seven o'clock tonight.

(40:38):
It's gonna be nice and a little less humid. So
come on out there Carbock Brewing, grap yourself an ice
cold Crawford Bach and let's go watch the Astros beat
up on the Phillies with Jordan Alvarez expected back tonight.
So we'll watch that over Carbock tonight and enjoy at
ice called Crawford Bok. Now, what's next?

Speaker 2 (40:57):
Next up? It's next stop the next step, Take the
next step.

Speaker 6 (41:02):
Next up, stop next, next up.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
This team wants to be next. This is Next Up
with Tad Northfleeten Chris Gordy. Let's see what's next next. Thanks.

Speaker 3 (41:17):
Let's kick off the second half final hour of the
program here on Sports Talks seven ninety.

d McGovern. A lot of ads, bring you a lot
of entertainment, a lot of information. As we'll wait Demiko
Ryans live from NRG. You can hang out with us

(41:49):
right here Sports Talk seven ninety with Real Texans Talk
and listen where the head coach will give his assessment
of twenty twenty four's preseason has come and gone.

Speaker 1 (41:59):
Go ade in.

Speaker 3 (42:00):
I spent our one talking a little bit about the
game on Saturday, but mostly about the ramifications. Right, what
does this roster look like? What will this thing look like?
Are they gonna add some pieces? Sure did Saturday? You know,
make or break the fortunes for some not necessarily. I
think that cam Akers has earned running back two. I

(42:24):
think that.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
The TIGHTI ind room is what it is. You know.

Speaker 3 (42:32):
I think Brevin Jordan, who didn't play Kate Stover, did
play Gordon. A lot of people thought that Stover might
take over for that tight end two designation.

Speaker 1 (42:41):
Kate Stover played.

Speaker 3 (42:43):
Therefore, I think it's safe to say Brevin Jordan is
the backup at tight end for this team. What else
did we see in terms of who played and who didn't? Oh,
I mentioned a couple of things that I wanted to see.
On the other sideline, there's an interesting case going on
with the Rams at a position to need for the Texans.

(43:04):
There's a guy, Ernest Jones, the fourth plays linebacker for
the Texans.

Speaker 1 (43:08):
Gordon.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
You mentioned he played his college ball in the SEC.
What do you play at Gordon, South Carolina? So he's
a guy that has been highly productive. I think he
led the Rams and tackles last season. He wants a
new contract, so he wants out and he's saying here,
Ernest Jones is saying he never requested a trade. Occurring

(43:30):
to Pro Football Talk, Jones had one hundred and forty
five tackles, fourteen TFLs, and four and a half sacks
last year six passes defense in fifteen starts. He wants
a deal, don't know. I mean they've seen him. The
Rams have been in town. They went town for three days,
so Casarrio got first hand look at Ken the dude
to help the Texans or not. It's just a linebacker

(43:52):
that popped up. I don't know if Demico even likes him.
It's just it's something that we have to ask ourselves
and put together that line back room. Dimiko has taken
the podium. We go live now to NRG time.

Speaker 4 (44:04):
For me, one of the most difficult times last year
for sure, as a first time head coach, having to
make the decisions and talking to these guys is It's
one that I don't take lightly because it's a it's
a delicate situation. It is tougher, I would say this
time around, because we have a lot of a lot
of really good talented players, right and some guys you know,
unfortunately we'll not be able to make it at this time.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
Although they are NFL players.

Speaker 4 (44:29):
And you know, one thing I always try to stress
our guys is I want all of our guys, like
once they're in our building, I want all of our
guys to make the NFL, even though it may not
be here with us at this moment, right, I'm still
pulling for these guys right once I coach them, they're
always my players.

Speaker 1 (44:45):
So I'm always pulling for these guys. Hey, good morning.

Speaker 3 (44:48):
To be a.

Speaker 6 (44:51):
Good when you look at the this is the time
when you say the difficult decision times. But when you
think about the kind of team, you know, the bulk
of its team, the key people.

Speaker 1 (45:02):
What do you think of this team? What do you
like about it?

Speaker 6 (45:05):
And the chance to be again a competitive team with
a lot of big goals.

Speaker 1 (45:10):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (45:12):
For our team at this moment, I think throughout the
training camp. Throughout this training camp, you know, I feel
like we've established a really good foundation as a team.
Guys have worked extremely hard. They've dedicated themselves to putting
the work in and you know that's the start and
that's the making of every really you know, great successful
season is you have to put the work in in

(45:33):
training camp, right, they set yourself up to have a
successful season. Our guys have done that, and I'm proud
of each and every guy you know who's trapped it
up for us this training camp because they've all put
it work in. They've all right done everything that we've
asked of our guys. So it's where our roster is
and the guys that we will have on our team.
I feel good about where we are headed into this season. Again,

(45:58):
it's just it just gives your chance right have to
go out and play good football. But I feel like
we'll start with a really good roster that has a
chance to compete every single time that we line up
this year.

Speaker 3 (46:08):
All right, head coach Demiko Ryans, he's over at n
RG and little technical deal there. He's on a zoom
call addressing the media again going to he didn't say anything.
I mean, it's gonna be a lot of coach speak
this morning. I presume, hey, look proud of our guys.
I hope they make the team somewhere else.

Speaker 1 (46:28):
Like I That's one thing that kind of perturbs me
about about the Dimikar. Look, everything on the field is
awesome and he's an awesome person and all that, but
if I one gripe about Demiko man, did he fall
into the coach speak from day one like this, okay,
to just give your opinion on things, and sometimes okay,
like it's not it's just so like don't want to
show our cards, keep it close to the fest and

(46:50):
it's and it's like we used to go through that
with Bill O'Brien to like for some reason, these coaches
when a media member says something, Hey, how do you
think John Mechi's done this?

Speaker 3 (47:00):
This?

Speaker 1 (47:00):
You know camp, it's like the quick to bring it out,
like pull it back and go. I think all our
guys has done a graduate. No, I asked you specifically
about John Maggie into the damn quest he did it
to me after the game on Saturday, I said, Hey,
the rumor is on case.

Speaker 3 (47:17):
Keenan was walking up the tunnel to the locker room.
Did you pull him out or is he hurt? We're
not ready to make any assessment about the roster at
this point. Is still an evaluation. We're looking over, you know,
all the tape and data and we'll put out a
roster and be competitive at the appropriate time. Okay, Tomko,
has he hurt?

Speaker 6 (47:33):
Is he not?

Speaker 3 (47:34):
Like?

Speaker 1 (47:34):
What are we doing here? Well? And sometimes they want
to be protective of injuries and all that, and I
get sometimes you don't want to say, uh, something that's
gonna grab a headline, right like you say something to
speak and suddenly it's the front page of you Do.
And guys like me and you locally are saying hey,
but also think it's okay to be a human and
be like, yeah, look we love with Mets just giving us. Look,

(47:55):
this is a tough business. You know, we're gonna have
to crutch the numbers and see if you know, if
he makes this rost. But he's done. There's nothing he
hasn't done that's hurt as you know Case here, you
know what I mean, Like it's okay to just give
be real sometimes. But man, he's he fell into that
trap of coach speaks so quickly, my man, Polo Vision
hit me up. He was over me, all over me
this weekend, staying what is your case? Kingum hate? I

(48:19):
really did you staying? But you're wrong about Kingdom playing
well last year. I'm sorry, Paula Vision, We just see
a different game case Kingdom can't play anymore, and Demico
knows it also, Paul Vision, Damien Pierce and Brown as
in Noah Brown both could fetch a Day three pick. Yeah,

(48:41):
I agree with that if they were dealt. They're not
dealing Nord Brown. He's hurt. They can't anyway, but I
think they think he's the fourth receiver. And we'll see
what Damian Pierce is on that front. Roster cuts continue
to come down around the NFL. Gordy, the Vikings part
ways with fourteen players according to Around the NFL. Curtis

(49:03):
of NFL Network, Oh, there's another sec here for you,
Gordon quarterback Matt Corral not making it other NFL news.
Before we get out and talk some Mastros on the
other side, we will hear what Demico had to say.
I'll get Connor if we will play back some of
that on the other side, probably at eleven thirty or so.
What did Amica have to say? And we'll see if

(49:25):
any names are released. What happened in New England? I
saw again. I was distracted. We're celebrating the birthday at
the friends and family of mine. But what happened in
New England? I saw Drake May went in. Who got hurt?
Did you see that, Gordy? No, I saw Drake May
made an incredible play down the field and then it

(49:46):
got negated by a penalty. But there was some oo
anda Drake May out of Carolina, North Carolina, that is
who is it? Liked male. I think his quote yesterday
was that, oh, Jacoby Brissette got bang. He said, so
Drake May had to go. He said it starts in
practice and also in the game where Drake has played
better and saying that everyone wants to know the starter

(50:08):
is going to be there. Multiple factors have to go
in this decision. Want us a total body work blah
blah blah blah. Bro you took Drake May top was
the top five? Like top ten? Start the dude, what
are you doing? What is starting? Jacoby Brissett? Do? Jacoby present?
Is an awesome backup to have. I wish the Texans
had him as their backup, but he's a backup you
No team should be starting Jacoby Pressett. If you drafted

(50:30):
Drake May top ten, start the clock, put the put
the guy out there. I hate this song and day
the Texas think, God, they didn't do this crap last
year and it was very quickly. CG. Well, it wasn't
very quickly, but they once we got coach to the season.

Speaker 3 (50:43):
Everybody knew if if Jacoby Brissette had been on the
Texas roster last year, everything that I saw from CJ
and Camp, I would have Seid started Jacob Bras sat
at week one and let's see what CJ is how
it goes. Because I think, especially new head coaches, which
is what I said last year about Demiko, you better
win some games. Your message in building a culture only
permeates in the locker room when you win. That hope

(51:06):
does nothing for the men that on in their last
season in NFL, or clinging on to the NFL.

Speaker 1 (51:11):
Hopes by a thread like that does nothing for We
got to win. The NFL's the head coach. You don't
get four years to build this back, I mean get
which is why you need to win right now, right so,
but but then start the clock on Drake May if
he should. Everyone expects the rookie quarterback. Everyone's gonna have
ups and downs. CJ. Stroud didn't. He he had way
more ups than me, way more. But like in other words,

(51:32):
you gotta start it. Biden time with Chacoby Prisett doesn't
do anything for you, because then next year you're starting
Drake May as a rookie. You always got to go
through his growing painesay go no, no bleep that you're
year two, you should be ahead of schedule.

Speaker 3 (51:43):
All right, we gotta get it b out of here. Uh,
we gotta stud here is that we're doing. All right,
let's do a stud r rex read and we will
hear what Demiko has to say. On the other side,
football season is here, and that means we don't have
as much free time as we did in the off sea.
And all due respect to our hometown strolls who will
talk about on the other side, if you want to

(52:05):
be treated like the stud that you are, that means
we gotta perform man alignment to suggests a local, reliable,
discrete solution for your male performance needs as it pertains
to the taboo ed department. The good people at get
studr rex dot com would like to high at you.
You can come by the location inside the loop right
off the Kdie Freeway here not too far from where

(52:27):

used to the sea allis that other blue thing? Yeah,
they've got that too. But what they do thats unique
is they provide you some compliments to that, some special
compounds that allow you to modify, customize what performance. Staying,

(52:48):
I don't got that much time. I need to get
to it, so I get back to the TV cool.
You need to wrap it formulatill respond right now. Stay,
it's a long weekend, which is what I'm gonna add
this weekend in Austin, Okay. They got a long lasting
formula that may be better suited for you. Go to

(53:10):
like the stud that you are.

Speaker 2 (53:14):
This is next time stuck with Stan Norfleet and Chris
Gordy during this next stage on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (53:24):
Next up we are we'll hand the baton over to
the Matt Thomas Show. Are those guys back from there
Shenanigans in Vegas? Yes, all right, Matt Thomas, Ross Viria
coming your way in about forty minutes. Right here on
Sports Talk seven ninety, Demiko Ryans still speaking and addressing
the media. However, our ververiant own Aaron Wilson, our NFL
and Texans Insider posts a series of tweets Gordia on

(53:48):
the X platform. You follow him at Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL.
Of course we are at Sports Talk seven ninety. First
move that has been announced that I see if the
first cut for the Texans. They have released offensive linemen
Dieter Iceland. So that's the first actual cut that we
have seen. Something else of note for me, Gordy. Ten

(54:10):
minutes ago from Aaron Wilson, we have this is Demiko
Ryans quote. We have a really tight wide receiver room,
a lot of guys who made plays. We feel really
good about the room we had. Of course, the top
three guys all big time playmakers. That's a good problem
to have. Excited about the group. Xavier Hutchinson progress, he's
made really cool to see his development.

Speaker 1 (54:30):
I think that's safe to say hutch has made this right.
DJ Bieneman, he even he said, Demiko Ryan said, unprompted
praise for Xavier Hutchinson. Hutchesonf he ran out of his
way to mention his name. How impress he's been with
his girls some year, one, year two. But how about this,
Tomiko Rans So that'sd about Mechi and Damian Pierce's roster chances.

Speaker 7 (54:47):
Quote.

Speaker 1 (54:48):
When you talk about Metch and Damien, I think they've
done really well in the games and practice setting. Okay,
what the hell does that mean? But are they both
on the team. That's what we're asking. Give a damn
really impressed with them? Okay, does that mean they're both
on the team. Listen this thing?

Speaker 3 (55:04):
Man?

Speaker 1 (55:05):
Where was the one or the other one? He said?
Will Anderson's coming along? Yeah? That one? He is not
practiced since early August? Is where are we a week
from next Sunday?

Speaker 5 (55:17):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (55:17):
It's a week from Sunday. If they have Will Anderson Indianapolis,
I'm gonna get scared. Well, I won't. I had this conversation.

Speaker 3 (55:26):
I think Jerry Hughes and Dead Barnett on the opposite
side of Daniel Hunter will give them enough pressure on
the past a week one. Uh, and that's when Anthony
Richardson elects two passed. He's gonna run around them? Are
Will Anderson? Though Danil Hunt is better than Will Anderson? No?
I know, but you know you said, you said those
three opposite of the Neil Hunter. I have enough confidence

(55:47):
that those three will put enough pressure in the past.

Speaker 1 (55:49):
I have no confidence. I have confidence that Daniel Hunter
and I have tremendous character. It was excellent in the
playoffs last year. Excellent, had like two and a half
saxon three. It's it's like when you get when you
have a toothpay paste that's running out and you squeeze
it and you get a full. Oh look there was
a little bit left in the tube. But you're gonna
rely on that. Another year you'd be squeezing that tube

(56:11):
trying to get every little bit at that toothpaste out
of there.

Speaker 3 (56:13):
Dead bone, that's fine. He could play for half the league,
he could start for he could start for a quarter league.
Dead one that can still play. I'm not worried about
that now. Of course I wos moved on. I won't
like he kept play because they're paying so many other dudes.
They put a lot of stock into the interior. They
drafted guys, they've got sweat on the edge. That's a
different situation. He had no sacks in eight games played

(56:33):
in Philly. What did he do in Houston?

Speaker 1 (56:35):
Yeah, he was great. He was two and a half
sacks out of him. He was excellent. You're gonna rely
on him for a whole Let's say six weeks. Let's
say Will Aders is out six Why you have him
going for six weeks? Being out on I'm dude, doesn't
played a month.

Speaker 3 (56:48):
What do you want him to do? They can't trade
for Miles Garrett. What do you want him to do?
I wanted to give him some kind of update. Yah,
Will's on track for week one. No, they're saying his ankle,
but they haven't said. He just said, Oh, he's coming along.

Speaker 1 (56:59):
Now. They did give us an update. You know who
else is coming along? Kyle Tucker, it's coming along. Don't
do that.

Speaker 2 (57:05):
No, no that.

Speaker 3 (57:06):
We gotta do a lock. We gotta do a Mauricio
Dubon health update here in a second as well. Aaron Wilson.
Six minutes ago, I asked Demiko after the game on Saturday,
what's up with case Keenum? Did you pull him or
is he injured? Been battling a calf all season? He
walked up the tunnel, says the TV crew. We did
not get that announcement in the press box. Aaron Wilson,

(57:28):
What did Demiko have to say? The team is still
working through the third quarterback situation and will make that
decision tomorrow. Davis Mills will be the backup behind C. J. Strout.
Thank God, was it that hard? I mean, it's just
not that hard. Now they're still not saying what they're
gonna do with Davis Mills. It was the betting favorite.

(57:49):
What are we doing here? What did I see?

Speaker 8 (57:51):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (57:52):
You mentioned Demiko on, John Mitchi and Damian Pierce. Did
you see Did you read that one? I got Jonathan Alexander.
I think they've done really well in the games and practice.
So I mean to men, let me rephrase, are you
on the are they on the team? We're not going
to get into roster evaluations right now. Nick and I

(58:15):
will compare notes and on Tuesday. By Tuesday, we'll have
that for you. Guys, Demiico, Ryans, John Matchie and Damian Pierce.
I think they've done really well in the games and
practice setting.

Speaker 1 (58:26):
Oh what you got? This is from Tom and Pello
Sero three minutes ago. Important note As teams construct their
initial fifty three rosters, NFL teams were informed the NFLPA
vetoed the revised emergency third quarterback rule that would have
allowed teams to elevate a bona fide quarterback from the
practice squad an unlimited number of times. So the rule
reverted to last year which says the emergency third quarterback

(58:48):
must be on the fifty three man roster. Now that sucks,
and I'm gonna tell you I got into a pretty
spirited debate with one Aaron Wilson about this very topic
in the press box Saturday afternoon. Now that the NFL
PA has vetoed that, and you know why they did that,
Gord it because it impacts guy's money. You need to
be on the fifty three to get your full compensation.

(59:09):
So the PA fought back. We can agree. That's a
tough spot this team. This is my point.

Speaker 3 (59:14):
This is how it hurts the Texans. So in principle,
case Keenum, your third quarterback or whoever the third quarterback is,
he now takes up what would have been your ninth
or could have been tenth offensive lineman, tenth defensive lineman,
or seventh wide receiver. He takes up a spot that
the Texans need in other areas, a guy that's just

(59:37):
gonna sit over there and not play for you. So
I get why the PA fought back, but that puts
and that's why Demko made that statement. Also, another cut
has come down, and I'm gonna pronounce this gentleman's name correctly.
For once defensive lineman Nick Telvin, it is pronounced a

(59:58):
gene a game.

Speaker 1 (59:59):
Excuse me.

Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
Mc Telvin again has been released Aaron Wilson five minutes ago.

Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
So that is the second Texans cut.

Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
We will continue to monitor the wire and this thing
is starting to take shape. No surprises as of yet.
We know Daman Peerce was going to make the team.
Even if he is traded, he was gonna make the team.
So no surprise there, John MITCHI probably some people had
Mechi out. I think after preseason Game three most of
us had mechi in. Dimiko's ears must be burning. He

(01:00:29):
must have heard.

Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Dimko says they will see where Will Anderson is over
the next couple of days health wise, adding he's doing
really well. Indications are he will be ready for the
opener on September eighth. So indications are he will be ready.
We'll see. Got two weeks, all right, So that's what
we have there.

Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
Speaking of the wide receiver room, just thinking around the league,
I saw the cutout Jacob Phillips just seconds ago.

Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
Jacob Phillips who's that linebacker? Yeah, because you were worried
about liney depth. So I mean it's Jake Hanson likely
gonna make this team. He was cut. He was gonna
make it. Hanson and never Huet were gonna make it anyway,
which you gotta do better than that. Nelson Hewitt on
any other team is a special team, no question.

Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
And Nevill Hewitt, I know what he did with the
Jets as an off ball linebacker. I get it his
value now in twenty twenty four special teams. If this
were the NFL. You know when I was coming through
and when Indy Kalu was doing his deal, Yeah, he
can help you. Brother's out there with a neck role
like yeah, I mean stop this. He's not playing linebacker

(01:01:34):
for you. In today's meaningful we have to tackle in
space and it's about speed.

Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
He ain't.

Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
He's not playing play, but he's gonna make the team.
Good for him. I want brothers to get their money,
all right. Uh, you said, with Phillips being released, what
does that do with the linebacker depth? Gordy never hewittt Hanson,
Which Phillips did you say was getting del Shawn Jacob? Oh?
You said, Jacob Phillips getting released. Yeah, we'll see former

(01:02:01):
Lshitt ticker a lot of those guys. Okay, what are
ibs going to? Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:02:06):
The can't see the Chiefs, Gordy? Have you know the Chiefs?

Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
Where the Texans play at the Chiefs that game? What
is that week fifteen or something late in the year.
They have re signed Juju Smith Schuster, who was on
the Super Bowl roster with them two seasons ago. Juju
Smith Schuster, formerly the Pittsburgh Steelers and now formerly of
the New England Page.

Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
What the hell is the latest on Hollywood Brown? Have
they given any update on him?

Speaker 3 (01:02:31):
They don't have to give a designation because it's still
the preseason, but he got another week before they go
into next Fantasy football.

Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
Draft last night and you're getting into like the you know,
the fifteenth round, and Hollywood Brown is still sitting up
there as best player available, and nobody's taking him because
we don't know, what the hell when the hell he's
gonna play. I wouldn't take miss the whole year after year,
don't know. So that was the only thing.

Speaker 3 (01:02:55):
As it impacts the Texans roster moves who's being signed
and who to tech mayface way way way down the line.

Speaker 1 (01:03:03):
I love that that they drafted Savior Worthy though. In
Kansas City, you got Rashie Rice who's come on pretty strong,
Xavier Worthy, sky Moore, Justin Watson, Justin Ross, mekol Hardman
still hanging around, and they had Juju Smith Shuster back.
It's like it's just interchangeable. Patrick Mahomes, you and I
could go out there and welcome.

Speaker 3 (01:03:24):
I remind you that many people believe this signing of
Juju Smith Schuster means that Rashi Rice knows he's going
to miss significant time, like a quarter of the season,
so they need to make sure they can buffer.

Speaker 1 (01:03:35):
The white receiver. They still have Tony too, right, I.

Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
Believe Kadea Tony should still be on that roster. I
haven't seen anything otherwise on the way out, and we
will get some. We've delayed astros long enough. The other
one who's that that got injured for the Cowboys, Dron Bland.
He's injured. So the Cowboys not only can sign anybody,
the dudes that are playing for them, if they're playing
for them, are hurt. The only other NFL thing I

(01:04:01):
saw was that sounds like Jamar Chase is indeed practicing
for the Bengals, another LSU guy. I know you're happy
about that. We'll see what happens with him and his contract.
All right, let's come back on the other side. Astro's
dealing with a number of injuries themselves, but they're also
dealing with a number of ballers. Astros split the series
up in candom yards. What does that mean now that

(01:04:23):
they've made their way to Philly some early afternoon baseball.
That's not fair late afternoon, early evening baseball right here
in your home of the Stroke, Sports Talk seven ninety
to the neck to the dirt roll.

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
This is next time you kind of hit on everything
I wanted to say with Stan Norfleet and Chris Gordy
on Sports Talk seven ninety n.

Speaker 5 (01:04:47):
I think just continuing to prepare the right way to
go out and compete. Obviously, we know we just had
a tough series against a really good team and there's
no let up here now. Phillies are a great ball club,
and so it's Kansas City. So just continue to show up, grind, compete,
and get after it.

Speaker 3 (01:05:03):
Pilch, welcome back in the next up twenty six minutes
from now. Matt Thomas rosberryat for the Matt Thomas Show.
They'll take you from noon to three, followed by the
eighteen three to a round five, I do believe four thirty,
and then we get some Astros baseball on the East Coast.

(01:05:26):
They leave Baltimore, fly up to Philadelphia, you know, the
site of the twenty twenty two were a series definitive
Game six.

Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
My wife was at the game last night because she's
in Baltimore doing some work, and she said, first off,
a ton of Astros fans, but a lot of folks
made the trip because it's an easy train ride Philly.
A lot of there's a lot of Astros fans that
kind of made a weekend out of it, that said,
let's go to Baltimore for few. We'll go up to
Philly and so and great Ballpark's, great venues to go
taking games, and an easy and easy little road trip

(01:05:58):
there for us and fans. You're in Baltimore, you go
right up to Philly.

Speaker 3 (01:06:01):
But first time Stros have been back in Philly since
the twenty twenty two were a series where Chas McCormick.

Speaker 1 (01:06:08):
Makes the cash yeah, and then his swing decided to
die in spurs last year of Fellas year, last year,
he was good in Spurs. This year it's been bad.
Eight it's the lowest suspen since opening weekend. He clearly
is in it. I don't know, he's in his head.
Can't play ball? Oh for four? Three strikeouts? Not great?

(01:06:28):
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:06:29):
Astros? They even up the series. Four game series. They
are two games apiece versus the Baltimore Orioles. Astros win
Game one on Friday Night. They come back and win
Game four. ESPN Sunday Night Baseball last night, it was
it's always fun to do that on the national stage.
It just sucks, man, because they had Game two on

(01:06:52):
Friday night. Yep, they're rocking and rolling. Everything's going your way.
Payne Homers in the six, you're up five to two.
He got good, Hot Brown, he was awesome. And Brian Obray, you,
who's been mostly really good this year, chose to have
a night where he just absolutely sucked.

Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
He's been base base it Grand Slam Slam and suddenly
a five to two lead turns into a six to
five deficit and you go on to loose Allen. That sucked.
But then Saturday to have Fromber doing his thing, and
he's got a couple solo home runs out two v
with a home run, paying you with a home run.
But Frober's doing his thing, and he's about to get

(01:07:31):
out of the sixth inning. And what's Frober doing? More
than anything, gets those groundballs. Ground ball comes the first
and John Singleton, for some unknown reason, decides not to
charge the ball. I'm gonna wait for this ball to
come to me, and then proceeds to go to first.
He's slow. The runner, Colton Cowser I think, beats him out.
He alight, whatever well spotted goes well. You know, we're

(01:07:53):
trying to manchter people's pitch cat. Let's go get Fromber
and Taylor Scott's ass comes in in second, pick basis double.
All three of those runs good attributed to Fromber. And
it sucks because literally Fromber, if Singleton gets that ball,
it's a shoutout out. He's in line for a win.
You're up to nothing. You're probably gonna you know, I
don't know, we'll see what happened to seventheen ninth. But like,

(01:08:14):
it just sucks because it almost is a little positive today,
Stan because yes, you split the two the four game series,
but in the back of your mind, you're thinking, we
all played like we should have swept those guys. Those
two wins we let slip away, and so you feel
good about it. It just sucks because you had the opportunity.
Would have felt way better today if you'd have taken
three out of four. But at least, like put it

(01:08:36):
this way, if we got to go to camping yards
for a playoff series, you're not afraid of that place,
and you very.

Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
Well could see these guys again. The Stros find themselves.
Shame on me for not doing a scene set. Astros
do get to seventy wins, seventy and sixty on the season,
four and a half games in front of the Seattle
Mariners who just won a game for a one game
wins drink as well. Astro's playoff probability is down to
eighty nine point six percent last week. It was up

(01:09:02):
in the nineties. Something else interesting that I noticed about
the series with Baltimore. Stros tied this series, As we said,
the Orioles score thirteen runs over all four games. And
those thirteen runs and you just highlighted there, it's like
three at bats that determine those thirteen runs over four games.

(01:09:25):
We know they got blanked on Friday Night, and the
thing that sucks, especially when these were winnable games. The
way I'm looking at the Astros, Yeah, of course I
got my eye on the division because four and a
half games is not a lot with what just over
a month of the season remaining. But it's also, Gordon,
when you start talking about trying to get a bye

(01:09:47):
and not having to play in this play in scenario,
the Astros at seventy wins are behind the Cleveland Guardians
at seventy five wins. We know what the Yankees are doing.
I know they had Aaron Judge is on a tear
up there as well as one Soto. When they get
that back going, we know what the Yankees can be
at least this season. Thus far, Baltimore, by the way,

(01:10:08):
drops to a game and a half behind the Yankees.
What I want to bring up is not just that
the thirteen runs by essentially three played appearances, but also
like it would be nice if the Stros can catch Cleveland.
So now, with all the injuries that are flying around
and have been flying around the clubhouse for the Astros,
that'd be really bleeping cool if they could get a bye.

(01:10:32):
Gordy I asked you, do you think the Astros can
catch Cleveland by the end of the season to get
the wild card or to get the bye week.

Speaker 1 (01:10:41):
Uh, it's gonna be tough, man, I mean it's you
just I can't make any predictions on what they're what
they're gonna do. I mean, you're what's five games back
in that time, so you know, uh, correct me if
I'm wrong. Isn't the last yeah, the last series of
the season. Yes, it's three games Inland. I mean, think
about this, your last six games. You got three Seattle,
three three at Cleveland. What if, like that series against

(01:11:03):
Seattle decides the AL West, and what if that series
against the Cleveland decides seating you know, in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
I think one of the things that helped the Astros
last year was being they had to fight all the
way to Game one sixty two. I think that helped
them get back to be a game within getting back
to the World Series.

Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
Well, it was really a first time we had to
worry about that too. I mean, you know, in years
prior we went into September them having like a twelve
game lead in the division and stuff. He didn't really
have to worry about it. But it's funny. On the
postgame show last night and shout out, we had a
ton of calling us. On the post game last night,
one of the callers asked, what's your playoff rotation. I'm like, dude,
like we are so far away, Like I don't know.

(01:11:45):
We've seen Verlander one start so far and he looked
pretty good, but like, let me get to let me
get to the end of September before we start Slaton
Because and I brought this up scheduling quirk. Let's say
it takes you to the last game of the season
to lock everything up, and it likely will. That's on
a Sunday. Monday's an off day. Waldcard series starts Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
and it's the first one to two wins. What if

(01:12:07):
you play a wildcard series against the Royals or whoever,
and you got to burn JV Game one fromber game
two and then you gotta I don't know, throw one
hundred brown in game three. You're then off. That's that
would be a Thursday. You're off Friday. Alds game one
is Saturday. I guess we go to road out walk.

(01:12:28):
So in other words, as much as we want to
plan on our heads. We don't know if they're a wildcard.
Planning changes from as opposed to if they get that
buy during waldcard round. And we're talking about just preparing
for an Alds. So it all is again it'll be
determined in time, but you can't really plan it out
right now because you don't know. Fair point by you,
I remind the autumn Deanna, excuse me. This was going

(01:12:50):
into this road trip, the Houston Astros had the seventh
hardest remaining strength to schedule in the AL, the Sierraua
Manors the eighth easiest. So we'll keep our eyes on
what's going on. Now we'll come back. We have heard
from Dimico. We will hear more from Dimico, a couple
of things from the Astros who want to get in

(01:13:11):
as well. Before we hand off to Matt Thomas and
rossvillel This is the legendary KB.

Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
And me.

Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
Do it again. Onto done next tour as more of
Next Up continues now on Sports Talk seven ninety Home
of your World Champion Houston Astros.

Speaker 3 (01:13:34):
Final segment of the day here in Sports Talk seven
ninety studios, Matt Thomas, ross Via I be we hearing
about twelve minutes or so staying Northfleet Me Chris Gordy
him thanks to all of you hanging out with us
on a rainy Monday inside of Arrangey money here in Houston,
favorite city in the country. Still hope everybody had a
great weekend. Stros go too and two at Camden Yards

(01:13:56):
in Baltimore again, Game one in a three game seat
versus the Phillies tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:14:03):
What is that? Shortly after five? I do believe? All right?
What do we to?

Speaker 3 (01:14:09):
Hectoraris gets his first win. Hectoraris went an inning in
a third zero hits aloud, zero earned ones, one k,
did not walk any batters.

Speaker 1 (01:14:21):
That was yesterday. Oh there's my guy.

Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
Need to mention Josh Hayter twenty eight consecutive saves after
blowing his first opportunity as an astro.

Speaker 1 (01:14:33):
Mariseo Dubon if.

Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
You hadn't heard now, Dubon made a hell of a
play for the third out, and then we thought he
separated his shoulder. Soul left his body momentarily, but it
did return. Sounds like Dubon is gonna be all right.
X rays negative. If I'm just saying that figure speech,
I don't think he really took X rays. We walked
off on his own power. Dubon will be fine. Appreciate

(01:15:00):
gold glove utility man now giving it up in the outfield,
covering a bleap ton of ground to make that catch.
Very impressive in the outfield. Going back to that Singleton
mishap at first base over the weekend, I was reminded
of something. The Astros have used eight different first basement
outside of jose Air Brayer and I didn't even count

(01:15:24):
them up. I'm just thinking through, like what damn guaranteen
in Singleton? Du Bonn has been over there, the Zenzo
has been over there.

Speaker 1 (01:15:33):
I saw it.

Speaker 3 (01:15:33):
I was like eight, Like huh, yeah, the Das has
been over there. So anyway, I saw herd that somewhere
and I hadn't checked to verify that. But they keep
throwing bodies at first base?

Speaker 1 (01:15:48):
Who else?

Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
Did I see somebody else? I wanted to brag on. Oh,
Alex Bregman, I bear to lead a little bit here.
Let's cueue up these sounds, if it will. Highlights from
yesterday Stros go back to back, A big reason why
they were able to get this fourth in this getaway
game from the Baltimore Orioles sixty three yesterday, Alex Bregman
and Yanied Diz hit solo homers on consecutive pitches in

(01:16:12):
the seventh inning.

Speaker 1 (01:16:13):
Let me hear. Bregman, followed by yann and please.

Speaker 8 (01:16:17):
Bert Smith delivers breaking pitch poke the left field back
on it, slater, still racing, still.

Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
Going back, and it's over the wall.

Speaker 9 (01:16:28):
Home run number twenty one on the season for Bregman
puts the Astros on top four to three.

Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
You just never know on balls to left field here.

Speaker 7 (01:16:43):
With that deep wall, but just did have enough to
clear it three hundred and ninety seven feet over the
thirteen foot high wall and left for Bregman.

Speaker 8 (01:16:55):
The Astros have scored all of their runs with two
outs tonight, first pitch, Diaz makes a bed deep to.

Speaker 9 (01:17:02):
Left field Paula Kaye five to three, back to back
for the Astros. Bregman of Diaz a couple of bangers
with two outs.

Speaker 7 (01:17:14):
That was a sweeper that didn't sweep, just hovered over
the inner third. Diaz punished it.

Speaker 3 (01:17:23):
Appreciate Robert Ford and Steve Sparks over the weekend, do
a familous job, per yus. You well, Alex Bregman with
that sore elbow fighting through it. Gutting it out, highly productive.
He was over the weekend as well, Jordon Alvarez, and
I hadn't said this today. Jordan Alvarez was scratched from
the lineup. Wasn't that on Friday? With some discomfort? Was

(01:17:47):
that Friday or going into Saturday? He's gotta woke up
with a next thing?

Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
What are we doing here? I've never seen this, none
of you have ever seen this. Well, with the course, I.

Speaker 3 (01:17:58):
Understand it's it's a gets a grueling one hundred and
sixty two game schedule, but damn, now, multi multi millionaires
traveling on charter jets, staying in the finest hotels known
to man, and dudes on this roster.

Speaker 1 (01:18:16):
And it ain't just dudes down the lineup.

Speaker 3 (01:18:19):
This is justin Berlander Hobber, who was what third in
the rotation? And now you're not Alvarez. If you combine
that with a once in a lifetime she and contusion
from Kyle Tucker, Damn, it's just been one of those years.
Can't believe it sounds like you're going to be back

(01:18:41):
in the line up tonight. Man, What the hell is
going on? I'm serious about this. Who's a mattress sponsor
of the team, an the Mattress firm. Don't want to
cast the spurs's on them. Somebody get in here and
get this thing rectified. All these dudes waking up, millionaires
waking up. We got a damn penning on the and
these people waking up with this comfort down to his.

Speaker 1 (01:19:03):
Scapular or something that's ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (01:19:07):
Well, that's why I want to get to Oh did
I mention good Kakuchi?

Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
Have I said that? Connor? You have not?

Speaker 3 (01:19:14):
You know what I'm gonna do that now? Kokuchi is good.
He in an Astros uniform. I'm not gonna cap Kakuchi
has been playing damn good baseball. Uh let's see here,
and it had not been I know Gordy brought it up.

Speaker 1 (01:19:30):
Uh. Who was that? That was Kokuchi went on? Was
that Saturday?

Speaker 3 (01:19:35):
Nah?

Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
That was Righetti on Saturday? Kutchu went yesterday.

Speaker 3 (01:19:39):
I can't pull up my numbers here, all right, Nope,
that was from with yesterday, whatever night that was for Kuchie.
We know this, He's gonna give up a little bit, boss,
gonna leader y'all a little bit strike out. It's the
same thing every time we read the what Kakuchi has done.

(01:20:00):
It's the same thing. If he could only do one
thing for us, now they win every time he starts.
Just do one thing for me. Could I get you
to get into the sixth in or get through the
six en that'd be great. Other than that, no problems.
Uh God, I went around. I did everything. We did Dubond,

(01:20:20):
we did yourd on, we did Kokuchie. You talked about
the bullpen and uh Taylor Scott and Brian to Bray
you I mentioned Alex Bregman, appreciate him and Yanna Diez.
We talked about John Singleton. What the hell was that?
Anything else we miss over the weekend? Yeah, I mean
just you know, the welcome back Hector Harris in a

(01:20:43):
third of clean. I mean didn't even go up a hit.
Uh you know, good to see Brian and Bray you
bounce back yesterday. Uh, Breggie, keep crushing, bro I mean
all I talk to Bregman and first, I mean like
you play third base twice. So I had a caller
he suggested maybe Shay Wickham wasn't the best a third
on Friday, that maybe they said that a bottle looked

(01:21:07):
at Bregman.

Speaker 1 (01:21:08):
W Breggy, I need your well. I brought that up.

Speaker 3 (01:21:10):
I said, whoa, I say hello on that plate. Then
that old boy was able to get back on the bag.
I said, Now it was a tough ball. But had
Bregman been there, maybe he makes that play. And I
forget who was the pitcher and who was the runner
on the base pass at that point. But you remember
the playoffs talking about all right, we will model in Kakuchi.
I mention Kakushi five starts, five wins has been outstanding

(01:21:33):
because probably Tiger tweeted out, he goes, well, he hasn't
made it through six.

Speaker 1 (01:21:37):
I'm like, who cares? He's gone five and two thirds?
No I care why?

Speaker 3 (01:21:41):
Because I want a pitcher to be able to eat
up innings. That's the only breath I am. But Joe's
going to get him willfully. He could keep him in
another out. He's going together. I'd like guys to be
able to go is Now you got Verlander back in
the fold, so it makes things a little different. But
when arms were not a plenty, I did have issue there.
All right, let me get here, because I do not
have issue with my face, city and city of Houston
