Speaker 1 (01:43):
That's your big Crawford Bach when you're there.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Texans not practicing or they may do a walk through today,
they practice yesterday. We got to talk about that. We're
having what are they calling it. I'm going over to
NRG tonight for the annual it's not opening ceremonies. What
are they calling it? I think they called suck up
to season ticket holders. That's what it's called for the Texans.
Why do you have to do.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
This because that's what they're doing. No, it's not.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
It's about showcasing the twenty twenty fourteen for.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
The players to the people who spend the most money.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Yea, and yes, like that's fun, that's good, but it's
not sucking up to them. What's this thing called anyway,
I'll find a little bit. I'm going over to NRG tonight.
Can't believe I can't find this thing. That Texas pr
staff is gonna be upset with me. Nonetheless, Texans not
really really practicing the day they did get busy yesterday.
Will tell you who was in, who was out. We
will get any information that you have there the Texans

(02:36):
season premiere. Gordy mGy Bank all right. Also, we've got
some power rankings now that the fifty three rosters are
set around the league, super Bowl odds and where the
Texans find themselves as it's odd, but it's kind of
cool too. In the last few days, we haven't really

(02:56):
talked a lot about CJ. Stripp Like somehow we just
we talk him as okay, that's a given, move on
to other position.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Group Lord time talking about backup. This is quite true.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
Let's we'll talk about Stroud and he's been popping up
on some national outlets again.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
But last night, let's get to the business.

Speaker 5 (03:15):
Most of you yesterday afternoon and certainly when we got off, Gordon,
we got some afternoon baseball as the Astros were back
in action. That's what we do around here as your
home for Astros baseball. Strolls shut out the Philadelphia Phillies
there at Citizens Bank Park ten zero. And there are

(03:37):
a lot of folks to brag on. We'll get to
all the names. Jordan Alvarez, Spencer, Areghetty, want to brag on,
Mauricio dubanc As, McCormick. Bless your heart going back to
your native Philadelphia. But let's get things started right off
the rip. This is interesting, So no, Gordon, you love
the scene, said, I want to play the audio first.
Jose L Twove. Catch Bryce haw performer two time MVP

(04:02):
over there at first base. He's fooling around with Jeremy
Pinya and gets caught napping a bit al two bay.
Let's get the strolls on the board right off.

Speaker 6 (04:10):
Top oh one counter to Caratini. Runners lead off first
and third, no score throw over the first. Pay you
back with a dive. He was leaning there and now
taking off for home. Al Tuove and he's in Harper
didn't realize it, and Jose al Tuove steals a run
want to nothing.

Speaker 7 (04:27):
Astros boy, that was brilliant. Al Twove off to the races.
Harper fell asleep, There's no doubt about it, reaching to
his right with his back to the play and now
two ve beat him to the punch. What a great play,
What a great start for the Astros.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
Gordy, I love the day. Were aggressive right off, the
real heads up play and led by the little big
man himself.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Appreciate Twove doing that. What'd you see, Gordon?

Speaker 8 (04:51):
Yeah, I mean it's you gotta be you got to
be heads up and Al two ve, Look, he's he's
had some base running gaffs, to say the least the
last few years, but that was a good one. You
put the pressure on them and you get the early
one nothing lead and you know, let's be real, Tyrone
Walker's not been good.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Who was it?

Speaker 8 (05:08):
Chandler Roman said something about he was in his uber
in Philadelphia and he said the uber drivers telling him, wait,
Tywan Walker saw like he's the he's the whipping boy
of the Phillies pitchings out. Then they paid a ton
of money for him, and yeah, he's not good. Luckily
they Astro Scott after him.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
Taiwan Walker takes the al He's now three and six
on the season, tag for six runs on thirteen hits
in six innings.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
And how about the Astros? I saw this? Where was
this note ad?

Speaker 5 (05:37):
The Astros had eighteen hits.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Crazy?

Speaker 5 (05:42):
So after getting shut out, they come back and shut
out the Philadelphia Phillies for the first time.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
The story was, it's funny. We're watching the game.

Speaker 8 (05:54):
We're an establishment here, Matt and Ross and a bunch
of us who are having our fantasy baseball driver. We're
watching the game, and the Astros scored runs. And I
think it was after the fifth inning, you know, because
they kept talking about Spencerraghetty and all the strikeouts, and
I look at the box score.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
I go, guys, he's starting a no hitter.

Speaker 8 (06:09):
So anybody noticed this and it was funny, Like people
on Twitter slowly started, Oh now, I think part of
it is the silly Jinx thing on TV Todd Colson.
Then they prescribed to that we're not gonna see what's happening.
Robert Ford and Steve Sparks don't give a damn. I'll
go he has no hits through five innings, like okay,
So whatever they say is not gonna jinx it. But yeah,

(06:31):
that suddenly started to become the storyline. It's funny because
the end of the seventh, Dubon makes this incredible catch.
I'm up, and even after the game he says, oh yeah,
I didn't even had no idea.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
It was a no hitter going on.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
We wan't do beyond the wall. We need do beyond
the wall, and Conor McGovern's gonna punch up. Do be
making a play? This is top of the seven. Excuse
me bottom seven. Dubon go to work.

Speaker 7 (06:55):
This pitch is driven a left field and hit well
back on a Dubon and it still back and.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
He made the catch.

Speaker 9 (07:04):
Mauricio Dubon, with a gold belt and a gold glove,
makes the catch of the day right up against the
wall in left field and brings it down at the
top of his leap.

Speaker 6 (07:17):
Would have been an extra base hit off the wall
had Dubon not made that leaping catch. Incredible play, unbelievable,
not even his best catch on this road trip.

Speaker 7 (07:28):
It is, according to Spencer Arraghetty.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Appreciate robertfore the stave sparks Gordon what I thought, not
just preserving the no.

Speaker 8 (07:35):
No.

Speaker 5 (07:35):
For Spence arrogatty Mauricio Dubon, but the courage to make
plays off the wall again after nearly knocking himself unconscious
in Baltimore over there in left field a few games ago.
Kudos tip of the cap Mauricio Dubon doing some wallwork
yet again.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Bottom of a seven.

Speaker 8 (07:53):
This one was he was he was backed up against
the wall, and it was This one was more the
leap like, he's gonna get the leap up.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
The other one he's running.

Speaker 5 (08:00):
As fast as Dubon is feeling for that wall. That
wall is definitely sis, like, please don't let me get
my ass knocked out again.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
And then the no.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
No is ultimately broken up in the eighth inning where
third base mische Wickham a little dribbler squeaks past him
and then j mc penya has to field it and
Penya couldn't get the ball over the first and he
knew it so he had to eat it. And that
was the day for Spencer Arraghetty, who was just fantastic.

(08:29):
I mean, seven and two thirds allowed just to his
no earn eleven strikeouts, walking just four. He gets to
win seven eleven on the seater.

Speaker 8 (08:37):
Hayes gets on with that dribbler stubs, he strikes out Stubbs,
he strikes out sho, but then Turner singles. I kind
of almost liked that he gave up a second hit
because it would have sucked, like you're gonna have to live,
you know, you going, I'll give the one stupid hit.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
But at least he gave up a second one. So
I was like, ah, well, this is the two hitter.

Speaker 8 (08:53):
But the good news was I mean, as if Estra's
on in full control.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
It was crazy.

Speaker 10 (08:56):
Though.

Speaker 8 (08:57):
We kept looking at Arragatty's pitch count were like, it's
only thirty five pictures, like he could have gone the
distance if this thing would happened.

Speaker 5 (09:03):
Oh listen, when he got yanked, where was he at?
He was at eighty something, not even where was he at?
Arrogatty was at okay. He got up to one hundred
and three over the course of the afternoon, e r
dropping the four point sixty three a couple of things
on Earraghatty lifted with two outs in a finishing with
eleven strackouts for walks. As I said, two hits in

(09:25):
the longest outing of a professional of his professional career,
either in the majors, or the miners. So kudos to
Irrigatty again.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
And then funny has been the big topic glast couple weeks.

Speaker 8 (09:36):
Gotta eat no, no, no, it's been we gotta watch this
guy's work.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
We got mad work. Arrogaddy's like the hell that one
O three come out here balling.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
I'm gonna stay in there, chance to doing no no oh,
As I was getting ready to say, this is the
worst home shut out for the Phillies since August of
twenty seventeen, they lost ten zero to the Mets. This
is also the first time, or would have been the
first time the Phillies had had been no hit since
Game four of the World Series versus the combined no

(10:04):
hitter howve has started that game we know in twenty
twenty two.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
All right, so that's that part. Tell you what.

Speaker 5 (10:10):
Let me hear from, didn't don't I have Jeege Spotder.
Let me Enjoge spot on the win. Let me get
George spots that post game one.

Speaker 10 (10:21):
So you know, before we talk about Spencer, because we
need to. I think he was magnificent. He was really
really good. I thought the Hotel two way stealing home
in the first sitting, I thought, I really said the
tone for us today, we need a little spark, and
I think he did that. And then after that, Spencer
got on the mountain and it was it was lights out.
He was so good fastballs, you know, breaking like he

(10:42):
had everything working against a really good lineup.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
It was really good. You know, he wanted Bryce Harper
at the.

Speaker 10 (10:48):
End and he you know, which I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
So he was really good.

Speaker 5 (10:56):
Manager joege Spoda after the Astros avoiding the sweet Astros
get the dub. They've now won three of their last nine,
making their way back to the comfortable confines of men
in May Park. This evening, Spencer Arraghetty as we go
to break to your point, Gord, they're striking out four
of the first five phillies he faced. I was reminded

(11:17):
rag Getty is a six round pick from the amateur draft.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Crazy.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
He was in great shape through seven innings, having thrown
fifty three of his eighty six pitches for strikes. Best
outing of his professional career by far, would have been
the fifth no hitter of this young young of this
long now MLB season. We know Blanco got one along
with Brian King. Did you see the blue Jayson Greg

(11:43):
Harvey's tweet between the numbers. It's his Twitter account tweeted
this out.

Speaker 8 (11:47):
The Astros have recorded sixteen no hit bids of at
least seven innings since twenty nineteen. That includes the playoffs,
as the most such no hit bids over a six
season span by any MLB team over the past fifty years.

Speaker 5 (12:01):
I mean that is that is getting it done quite
a number. Let's continue talking strolls on the other side.
Seven one, three, two point two five, seven ninety. There's
a lot of balls flying out of the park up
there in the Bronx, but Major League Baseball. Bet'll be
well aware your daddy is getting things done. We'll tell
you what he did yesterday if you missed the game.

(12:21):
More to come here on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
Ninety with your non Next up pitchers tremble with fear.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
You run over us O the COF three run.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Over with north Fleet and Gordion. Next up, Bellies tremble
with hunger. Lunchtime is so close until then, chow down
on more.

Speaker 6 (12:44):
Next up, there's alvarezis two homers today and he smashed
it this one pretty deep to center. Marsh Is racing
back at the wall Seatlanta.

Speaker 8 (12:57):
A three homer game.

Speaker 6 (13:00):
Jordan Alvarez as he goes back to back with McCormick
and the Astros latest ten to nothing.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Well, I've seen that before.

Speaker 7 (13:09):
You're not going d three times.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
What a monster.

Speaker 6 (13:14):
Jordan Alvarez with his third three homer game, which ties
him with Jeff Bagwell for the most in Astro's history.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Oh, could she just see me with my new baby?

Speaker 5 (13:26):
Robert Ford of Staves Barks, Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia. Jordon,
who has the best batting average in all of baseball
on the road this season, I explained that Jordon Alvared
is a bad man. Fourth in MLB and batting average overall.
Uh time for eighth in the home runs. After those

(13:47):
three and back to back to backs, if you will,
he's now at two excuse me, twenty eight, which ties
him for eighth in the American League. Jordon walked in
the first, singled in the third, and then you get
rad attack tag three home runs.

Speaker 8 (14:01):
You and on looking like youdon Gordon. Yeah, well that's
what said earlier. Welcome to the party. Good to have
you back. Could you maybe do that a little bit
more consistently, I mean, we don't need three home runs
in a game, really, but could you like spread some
of these out and maybe get a home run?

Speaker 1 (14:15):
You know, three home runs in a week.

Speaker 8 (14:17):
I'll take that, because, yeah, they've been missing his his
pop and you know, like you said, the scouting report
was out there, you figured they could get after Taiwan Walker.
But we've seen the start the season with the Astros,
whether they faced a pitcher or go, oh, they should.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Get after this guy. And then they scored two runs
and that's it. So they they mission accomplished.

Speaker 8 (14:34):
They did what they needed to yesterday, and that was
combined with Spencer Araghetti having a special performance against one
of the best lineups in baseball, the Phillies. So yeah,
it was you know, it sucks because you lost the series.
You had a chance to win Monday night and could
have come out of this winning two out of three.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
But it was a good way to leave Philadelphia.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
You mentioned the lineup at the Philadelphia Phillies put out there.
Obviously they lead the Nail East and so they got
roughed up. And I think I called him Taiwan Walker
the other day, was it Taiwan?

Speaker 8 (15:10):
It's fine, So Taiwan, when you pitched terribly, you don't
get your name pronounced right.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
Taiwan got banged up.

Speaker 5 (15:17):
Obviously, he takes the L tag for six runs on
thirteen hits in six innings. The Phillies have lost Taiwan
Walker's last nine starts. Now on the bump back, we
heard the third of Jordan's triple homers, if you will,
and you heard Robert Ford of Steve Spark say, back
to back, I do want to celebrate a guy because

(15:38):
Chas McCormick, Bless his heart, Chazz, it hadn't been going
well this season. And if you heard some of his
comments coming out of the previous series at Baltimore and
coming into this Philly series, he's wearing it pretty heavy.
Now he get a bit of news on the other
side of this ball game. But there's Chas McCormick in
his native Philadelphia, a place where obviously he has to

(16:01):
catch to seal Game six and propel the Astros into
a World Series victory there in his hometown. Felt good
to see Chaz get on the board. Let me get
some of that sweet music.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
DJ.

Speaker 6 (16:11):
Chas MCom yo one and Chaz hits this in the
air pretty deep to right center. Going back on it.
His march still going back looking up.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
See later.

Speaker 6 (16:21):
Opposite field over run for the Philadelphia kid Chas McCormick,
a two run shot and the Astros laid at nine
to nothing.

Speaker 5 (16:32):
Four hundred and twelve foot shot over right center, nearly
identical Gordon to the place where he had said catch
in the World Series. Happy for Chaz. And then we
get some news postgame, right we Chaz.

Speaker 8 (16:46):
I mean he he look and it sucks because it's like, dude,
if you'd have done that a little bit more these
last couple of months, you wouldn't be getting sent down.
But yeah, I mean he came, he pinches for all
two there there in the eighth and hits the home run.
But you know it was already whatever it was, seven
to nothing, makes it nine nothing. You know, he's gonna
go down to sugar Land and and hopefully he can
he can fix his swing. I don't know what that

(17:07):
means for the rest of this season. You know, still
got a whole month of baseball to play, and then
into the postseason. We know how good he is defensively,
but he just he almost became unplayable. I mean he
has become unplayable. I mean the batting average is up
two hundred. It's just it's it's an awful year for
Chess McCormick at the plate.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
And you know that's that's.

Speaker 8 (17:25):
A big rise of reason why they went out and
brought in Ben Gamble. It's a big reason why they
went out and brought Jason Hayward off the scrap heap.
I mean, they're trying anything and everything all because Chas
you know, Jake Myers done his thing a little bit
this year. He's dipped off this average down to two
thirty two. But you know, big reason why Chaz hasn't
didn't grab the bull by the horns. That's why the

(17:46):
astors are searching for I'll field help.

Speaker 5 (17:49):
You mentioned Ben Gamma. I want to also acknowledge top
of the four, Ben Gamble's near home run. They review it,
they do not call fan interference. They allowed to run
us to say second and third respectively, So Ben Gammon
almost goes two run shot in his own right. Go
to the phone lines now seven one three two one
two five seven ninety if you want to get in

(18:10):
on this Astros convo, Gordy. Something that has also come
up is not just the best outing for Irraghetty in
his career Jordan making some history in his own right.
We've bragged on a couple other people, joege spotted. Some
folks are questioning, like Chas McCormick pitches for our two
V and in shade will come the dribbler that got

(18:31):
passed and we mentioned that earlier in the segment. Last segment,
why was Bregman not still in the game has come up,
like what's going on with these substitution patterns? And no,
it didn't cost you a game, but it could have
cast Spencer Irraghedy.

Speaker 8 (18:44):
No, yeah, but I mean they took al two V out,
they took Bergmann out, you know.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
But that's what's saying. People are asking why did you
do that with a no hitter still at play? And
Joe Spott was asked about that. We met Ben gammele
ten for twenty three in Astro's uniform. Came out of nowhere?

Speaker 8 (19:00):
What the miss right memories we get batting four thirty
four as an extro crazy.

Speaker 5 (19:05):
Let's go to the phone. Last first call to today,
Conrade James, good morning.

Speaker 11 (19:10):
Yes, yes, I was enjoying the game yesterday was the
Crawford Bach just made it better. So yeah, so okay,
I think Dubon is Central Americans version of Willie Mays.
Yeah yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:28):
Okay, Well, drink a craffe a bout like what's going on?

Speaker 12 (19:33):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (19:34):
All right? All right?

Speaker 11 (19:35):
And and then and then why did we option chats?
And then the other question, Uh, I have two more questions.
I think it's time for us to start resting players
and getting ready for the postseason on a regular basis

(19:56):
so we make sure we're healthy. And the last question
I have. I'm reading the book Last of Its Kind
about the picture Kershaw and Kershaw the Dodger pitcher. He
says he has PTSD from the Astros cheating scandal in
twenty seventeen when they were beat. Will the cheating scandal,

(20:17):
in your opinion, prevent players like A two A and
Bregman from getting in the Hall of Fame? And I'll
just hang up and listen to what you have to say.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Thank you all, love.

Speaker 5 (20:27):
You appreciated, comrade James, friend of the station, friend of
the show. I will try and quickly go to looking
at the clock here for both of us. No, I
don't think the scandal will keep our two v out.
I don't know that Bregman's a Hall of Famer right now.
We'll see how he buttons up his illustrious career. AL
two A's going walking in no problem. Yeah, and Justin

(20:47):
verlandrew the same.

Speaker 8 (20:48):
I mean, I agree, you know, I think that it'll
be a discussion, you know, it'll be in discussion by
the baseball purists and all that. But what we forget
about Kershaw is he was an awful postseason player for
many the most. So for him to say that, it's like,
bro at the end of the day, the figures pointing
back at you like that. We know, at least from

(21:08):
the evidence those out there, that they didn't. They didn't
bang on trash cans in the in the postseason. You
couldn't hear it in may Park. There wasn't you know.
Were they still trying to steal signs and all that? Well, yeah,
stealing signs is legal, it's just the relaying them in
real time, which again go back and watch the game
they were he was. He was leading meat balls over
the plate. And I've had people to you know, argue
with people about him and they're like, oh, girsha, but

(21:30):
like he just wasn't good and he thankfully he finally
got his World Series ringing with the Dodgers and in
twenty twenty. But and he was awesome that postseason, by
the way, had a two ninety three postseason. He already
that year. It was his best postseason ever. Go figure,
the one year he's awesome in the postseason, they win
the World Series.

Speaker 5 (21:46):
All the other years they stuck. So you know, Chas
McCormick is being option because he's been bad. His slash
line coming was this coming in oh He is hitting
one ninety two with a five forty eighth ps. What
I think seven hundred is average if memory serves correct,
like he's well below average. He's been set down his

(22:07):
first home run since July twenty fourth, after a span
of fifty eight played appearances without a home run in
which he was six for fifty two.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Chazz is just not there.

Speaker 5 (22:19):
And it's crazy because last year he looked like a
totally different player.

Speaker 8 (22:23):
And to the coming of rusting players. Come on, man,
we're up three and a half. Let's come back to that.

Speaker 5 (22:28):
Well, look, we'll be joined by Brian Bogi saving not
at his normal time here in a couple of minutes.
That will be at eleven o'clock On the other side,
let's pivot to some college football. Voice of the Horns
Craig Wade Let's preview Week one starts tonight, going into
the weekend Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
Touchdown Texas coach Stark.

Speaker 8 (22:47):
Here you're next up was Stan Northfleet from Chris Gordon
of Sports Talk seven to ninety, Houston's home of Longhorn football.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
Oh my goodness, we're half an hour into a Thursday edition.
Week one college football begins. Next up is what we
discussed said topic. We get ready to go to Austin.
To the Voice of the Horns, Craigway, I'm super excited

(23:17):
my first time at Daryl K. Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin.
On satchety, looks like we're gonna get a little bit
of an overcast. I'll take some rain. What I don't
want is that direct sunlight beating on my head. Craigway
joins us now Stan Fleet. Gord is we talk about
the horns first season in the Southeastern Conference. Favored by
thirty two points over Colorado State. I don't give a damn.

(23:40):
It's a historic moment. Craig Way. Good morning to you, sir, listen.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
The only thing on my mind for you, Stan is
Fletcher's Corny Dogs. There's a stand there on the west
side of the stadium. You won't be sorry. It's just
like the ones at the Cotton Bolt the State par
of Texas for the Fletcher's Corny Dog.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
How are you, Craig?

Speaker 8 (24:01):
This has been eating like two hundred dollars prime rib
this week. I don't think he's gonna be getting a corner.
I was out of a very expensive place last night.

Speaker 1 (24:07):
I had what I have.

Speaker 5 (24:08):
I think I had one hundred dollars riv By last
night had to have with something crazy. Okay, oh, Craig.
By the way, Fletcher's is that where McConaughey will invite
me up to his suite when I'm over there. Fletcher's, well,
he sent his people to.

Speaker 12 (24:21):
The two of you guys.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
Okay, let's do this. The highest ranking the Horns have
had since twenty ten. What is Sart telling the guys
coming out of SEC media day? They're in training camp.
He knows who the lineups are gonna be. I would
presume what has started telling the boys Expectations abundant.

Speaker 4 (24:41):
You know, it's funny they lashed here in the final
year of the Big twelve for Texas. They had all
of these comparisons to two thousand and nine, the year
they went to the BCS National Championship and lost Alabama.
Highest ranking here, highest this there, most wins here, and
all that kind of stuff. And this is another one
of those, like you said, going into twenty ten, and

(25:02):
then of course it started to fall off in twenty ten.
But what Sark has just told these guys is to
concentrate on the moment. And he really he made a
pointed this in the news conference this week that he
wanted his guys to make sure they enjoyed what was
going on. Yeah, there's been a lot of work and
a lot of hot sun. They know, because of a

(25:23):
two thirty kick. All they've been preparing, you know, for
the past four weeks for what could be one hundred degrees.
We know now it's probably going to be around ninety
with a forty to fifty percent chance it's an afternoons.

Speaker 12 (25:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
In fact, when we were recording Sarks show last night,
he said, you know, we'll be glad to take ninety.
And you know, you think about folks all across the country,
what they're dealing with and they're not usually dealing with
one hundred degrees or whatever, so ninety would seem pretty
oppressive than them. Ninety seems not too bad right now.

(25:58):
I think folks would sign up to that. He's wanting
them to really enjoy the moment, the walk out to
the stadium, the warm ups, the camaraderie, and that's pretty
much been echoed by the guys this week and zeroing
in on Colorado stateon I'm thinking about Michigan the next week.
Just get ready for that opener and go out and

(26:18):
what's the phrase the folks like to say, be the
best version of themselves. That's what they want to be
take the field on Saturday.

Speaker 8 (26:25):
I don't think I've ever been more dehydrated in Austin
than that LSU Texas game in twenty nineteen. That was
a hot day that day. Tago Craigway, Voice of the Longhorns. Craig,
you know, some injuries happened in the Longhorns here this
last couple these last couple of weeks, say Luc CJ. Baxter,
who was expected to be in one of their primary
running back rotation guys, and then a true freshman, Christian Clark,
also lost for the season, but the Houston kid, Jayden

(26:48):
Blue Cline Kaine's own expected to maybe carry the load here.
Is it going to be mostly him or do you
still think this will be kind of running back by committee?

Speaker 13 (26:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (26:58):
I kind of like the word most Lee, you know,
and and it'll be somewhere between mostly and by committee.

Speaker 5 (27:05):
You know.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
It was it was going to be the vast majority
of it Baxter and Blue together, and once CJ went
down with the knee injury, and then Christian Clark went
out as well, and the ranks were thinned, then it
became okay, uh, you know, what do we do with
the guys we have left. I think it's a safe

(27:26):
bet to say that during the last fall camp scrimmage
about a week and a half ago, they had both
Jayden Blue and Trey Weisner bubble wrapped. They were wearing
green jersey. They weren't they weren't taking a lot of hits.
They wanted to make sure they didn't lose any anybody else.
Those two guys would probably be the main guys, although
I think Blue would probably draw the preponderance of the carries.

(27:49):
They do ever freshman, they really liking Jerk Gibson and
and they also you know, picked up were able to
pick up you know, through the through the portal running
back from some you grad transfer which helped out as well.
So I think all of that added up to them
having the numbers back up to where they wanted. But
I still think Jayden will probably have more carries than

(28:11):
anybody else on Saturday.

Speaker 5 (28:14):
All right, this quarterback deal I anticipate in this game
would be over pretty early. We'll see first time they're
seeing another jersey on like the preseason in the NFL.
How's he gonna divvy up these snats between Owers and
arch Manning.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
You know, I had a chance Roger Wallace and Will
Matthews thener members of were broadcasting. We were speaking into
luncheon yesterday and I was asked a very similar question
and reminded Polks of what Sarks said the press conference
on Monday. He was asked kind of about depth chart.
In the depth chart itself won't be released I think

(28:50):
until game time or right before, but he said, we're
still tweaking that and that goes on during the week,
he said, but guys who are in the two almost
certainly going to play, and even if you're in the
three deep, You're probably gonna get some snaps. So then
immediately immediate member follow up with the question said, so
does that mean Arch is gonna get snaps? And he

(29:13):
said we'll see, and that he left it it will see.
I think I think we will see Arch banning play
and Stan I you know, I think start with life
if he was able to draw it up. Texas gets
out of the gate quickly, they get up a couple
of scores, and but with the game still not completely decided,

(29:35):
give Arch a series or two, depending on how the
game is going, and meaningful snaps, not just mop up,
because they've got to have him ready in case something
happens to Quinn Ewers and Quinn, you know his mistime
in the last two years. Now, he's in better shape
now than he's ever been at Texas and he's had
a fabulous fall camp, but they want to have Arch

(29:58):
ready just in case of injury. So he would like
to get him at least one, if not a couple
of series while the game is still in the deciding things,
and then probably in the second half he would get
some more work if the Longhorns are comfortably ahead. But
you never know what season openers just asked Florida stakes, right,
So yeah, I got to make sure they've got their

(30:19):
business handled before they can think about such things.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Yeah, it's it's gonna be interesting.

Speaker 8 (30:23):
As we've seen the last two years, there's been times
where quin Yours has gotten hurt and they've had the
lean on guys. Milik Murphy had to start some action
for them last year and helped them lead them to wins.
So it could happen again, and you know, certainly need
to be prepared for that. A quick thought here talking
with Craig Wave Voice and the Longhorns. Craig, they've they've
hit the transfer portal heavy in this offseason at wide receiver,

(30:44):
basically built a whole new wide receiving corps. I know
they have John ta Cook back, but they bring in
a freshman, Ryan Wingo, but bringing Isaiah Bond from Bama,
bringing in Silence Boulden from Oregon State, and then Matthew Golden,
a guy we saw as the Houston Cougar last year.
He's now there in Texas. What have you made the
new wide receivers? And then they developed that big sea
word chemistry with Quinn Yours.

Speaker 4 (31:05):
Yeah, I think that was a key thing there, Gordy.
You know, they they had a fabulous receiving course. We
know obviously with exager Worthy and you know and at
Any Mitchell last year and both had big games in
that game against Houston. But they were also struck by
how well Matthew Golden played against Texas both in the
return game and as a receiver for the Cougars last year.

(31:28):
And both Golden and Bolden will be involved in the
return game as well. I think you'll see Silas on
punts and Golden on kickoffs. Bond has really accelerated later
and the tight end of mary Ny Black that they
got in from Alabama, they've had to bring him along
a little bit slower than they wanted to initially because
of coming off of injury. But they feel good about

(31:51):
what they have there at the tight end spot. And
even though they lose it, a guy like j T.
Sanders who is going to be playing for the Carolina Panthers,
Gunner Helm was a veteran and he'll be there and
they'll go to two sometimes three tight ends. Juan Davis
as a senior who's had a great fall camp. But
to your point about the wide receivers. Yeah, Bond Wingo

(32:11):
Golden Bolden. Also keep DeAndre Moore in mind as well
as John Jay Cook. All of those guys I think
are going to get in and I think all of
those guys will be in the receiver rotation.

Speaker 5 (32:24):
That is the voice and the opinions of one horn.
Voice is where you can find them on the X platform.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
Stanton or Fleet ten Chris Gordy are next up on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (35:38):
Let's close out our one here on Next Up Thursday
as Week one of the college football season, like they
call it week one, but real games will play last
week they call it week zero. I know it's weird,
but you're smart football fans that listen to seven ninety
and live in the city of Houston. Thanks everybody that
has us preset number one on the yaudio dial. Stand
caught up with everything that we do here from six

(36:00):
eight to six p and beyond. Astro's back in action
will be joined momentarily by in the next segment my
brother Brian Bogacevic. Thanks to our other guy, Craig Way,
voice of the Longhorns radio voice that is courtesy of
thirteen hundred to zion there in Austin. And as we mentioned,

(36:21):
we will carry University of Texas hosting the Colorado State
I was gonna say Buffalo's, Now that's Dion and them.
They're on tonight Colorado State Rams or something. I don't
know what they are AnyWho. Also on KPRC on Saturday
evening five pm, Willie Fritz makes his debut at the
University of Houston head football coach, and I want to

(36:44):
shout out Coach Fritz as well as Eddie Nunez, the
newly appointed ad coming over from New Mexico. Gordon, we
just got some swag dropped off courtesy of the University
of Houston giving they are great partners. Well, you got
a sweat town shape like a jersey.

Speaker 12 (37:01):
Is that what that is?

Speaker 5 (37:02):
Yep, nice jersey number ten, sweet t shirt, got Chaney,
We got pom poms. Shout out Willie Fritz. It's they
got a tough one.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
Man. This is this is a tough game, un l V.
This is spring. I haven't seen the spray pulling it
up there.

Speaker 8 (37:17):
But Barry odom has done a really good job there
at at U and l V since he's taken over
its former defensive corninator there at Arkansas, and he's done
such a good job there, Arkansas fans are calling for
if they fire Sam Pittman. Uh they want they want
Barry odem back, and uh so it's just kind of
interesting that, you know, we'll see, we'll see what it does.
But this is like normally, you know, sometimes you open

(37:39):
with a cupcake. I mean, un l V, any other
time I think would be a cupcake. But this will
be a tough game. You're just gonna have to gonna
have to play hard. For this when and look at
the expectations like the season win totals and stuff. People
are not expecting the Koogs to do much. And I
think Willie Fritz likes that. I think he would rather
kind of fly under the radar.

Speaker 5 (37:55):
Here T d e Cu Stadium will be the site
of seeing contest rebels from Las Vegas come in over
the ward's third ward if and the codah two and
a half, I is gonna say Koog's are favored by
two and a halm, so we'll see what happens there.
I'm gonna eat like Hell and Austin. I'm going over
to Fletcher's corner dogs at the recommendation of Craig Way.

Speaker 1 (38:18):
Have you ever had a corn dog?

Speaker 5 (38:20):
Yes, I've had a corn dog many years ago. I
don't eat that crap anymore. That's how you look like
this at forty three conor you take no, you want
to look like this at forty three?

Speaker 8 (38:28):
No to the corn dogs. What I will say your life,
enjoy some good food. If you want a corn dog,
get a corn doll. There will be food over red
td E c U. I saw a good friend of
the station. Joseph Duarte says that the University of Houston
has entered into a partnership with rapper bun Be turned
entrepreneur to sell Trill Tenders and trill Burgers at td

(38:52):
ECU Stadium this season. The co branded concession stand will
be located in Section one thirty eight near the student
entrance at.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
Icon Gate too. Oh yeah, he's gonna make bank. Uh
here's a quote.

Speaker 5 (39:05):
We've been looking for the perfect spot to open the
first location of Trio Tenders, and when the opportunity at
td ECU Stadium presented itself, we jumped at the chance.
Bunbe said in a statement, My wife, Queenie is from
third Ward. Shout out Third War and that other one. Yeah,
and with three of them, bring Trill Tenders and tril
Burgers to Cougar fans as they embark on a new

(39:27):
era under coach Willie Fritz Gokool's talking about the cool girls.
I like when they say it that way. It's pretty
cool song. All right, So get you some Trio Tenders
and Trio Burgers while you go see your Hi say
you were gonna say Bomb did a Pitbull like deal
that he did with Fay could call it. That'd be interesting.
Stadium Trill Stadium. Oh you're on the something there Trill

(39:53):
Stadium where the University of Houston Cougar's play.

Speaker 1 (39:56):
Ye Trill Stadium at Bunbe Field.

Speaker 5 (39:59):
Okay, and now we're getting carried away. Bud's got some jack.
But can he moved to the ecu A side?

Speaker 1 (40:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (40:05):
All right, So that's what's going on there. Also on
the college front, and what is Colorado State on the Rams? Gordon,
I can't believe between the two of us, we can't
stay what they are.

Speaker 8 (40:14):
They got the Ram on the helmet, their average football
is what they've been.

Speaker 5 (40:17):
You can't dismiss everybody. You're an elitist. You can't just
dismiss Remember they going to Rams just right? They talked
all that trash he had of that game with.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
Last year.

Speaker 5 (40:28):
I remember speaking of that. Deon is in action tonight.
They are just the Rams. There's no golden So go
to Colorado State Rams at Texas on.

Speaker 8 (40:36):
Saturday at a double overtime with Colorado last year too,
Colorado was a heavy, heavy favorite.

Speaker 5 (40:42):
I was gonna talk about Dion tonight that game. I'm
gonna be at the Texans event. Uh. North Dakota State
a really really good program. In the FCF ranks at
Colorado Colorado Buffalo's favor by nine and a half.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Tonight, did we get one is deal on allowing media
to cover him? Certainly yes? On the media.

Speaker 10 (41:02):
No.

Speaker 5 (41:03):
Deon said the hell with it if you got something
negative to say about And what he said was like,
what did he say? He did say if you made
it personal? What did he say? There's a certain word.
I have to look it up here in a second.
But Dion was like, yeah, negative energy or if you're
hating my program or something like that.

Speaker 1 (41:20):
He's not going to media.

Speaker 8 (41:21):
Does it?

Speaker 1 (41:21):
Does it?

Speaker 8 (41:22):
Is it required to bring any negative or positive feedback
to cover your team?

Speaker 5 (41:25):
It's just it's they're there to cover the team. The
coach is uncomfortable with what's being said about his team.
And this is a Gestapo Germany. You don't get to
decide who covers your course. Deon Sanders, he runs the program.
He's the most important person on the school. Canaby win
like Kirby and you can act like that you come
out of losing, this is.

Speaker 8 (41:45):
Where we are.

Speaker 5 (41:45):
You just had an excellent business observation with Trill Stadium,
then you come back. Do you understand that Deon Sanders
is the most important person on that campus. He gets
what he wants. He's increased attendance and enrollment. He's brought
in hundreds of million in direct ownership to the athletic
program as well as to the university at large. Media

(42:07):
have to do with that because he's got the influence
to say, I'll answer your question.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
You get the hill out of my room.

Speaker 11 (42:12):
He had.

Speaker 1 (42:14):
Of course he does, of course he does.

Speaker 8 (42:16):
Okay, well, Bill O'Brien jor okay, like Bill O'Brien got
in trouble with that. You don't get to dion, you
don't like somebody, you don't get to tell them. Is
slight years ahead of whatever Bill O'Brien thought he was.
Bill Brian won NFL playoff games. Adil O'Brien and Deon
need to sniffed the playoff in the college football The
brand of Deon Sanders, he can walk in any football

(42:37):
conversation on Earth and you're going to hear what Deon
Sanders as to say.

Speaker 1 (42:42):
Look, I still like Deon.

Speaker 8 (42:44):
I'm rooting for him, but man, we carry a lot
of arrogance for having done a whole lot of nothing
so far. I'm going to get got their butts back
to the PAC twelve. Last year, it was his first
year in the program. I remind you Nick Saban lost
to Louisiana Monroe first year in this Just listen to
the comment. It's true Nick Saban lost to Louisiana had

(43:08):
also already won a national champion. We're talking about coach
for coach. We're talking about the first year of a program.
You're allowed to get better. I can't wait to see,
he says, they've gotten better up on the offensive line
and in the trenches. We'll see. I can't wait to
take a look at that. Another college football note. You
want to know who's gonna be the guest picker of
college game Day?

Speaker 1 (43:27):
Who you got? I get your guests don't know it's
in college station. Johnny Manzail.

Speaker 5 (43:32):
Yes, and when it was easy. All right, let's do this.
Johnny Manziel at one point was a stud. If you
want to be treated like the stud that you are,
including on college football Saturday, where we're gonna be watching
games all day and all night. Mama, I know we
have a heavy woman listenership here. Mama, I'm sorry you

in Austin and the universe Houston. I gotta get a
session in. These guys will help you respond. Maybe you
need a long lasting formula, something like me, I'm on

Pop and go. You are stud. Get treated as such.
Go to get studrex dot com. Now what's next?

Speaker 2 (44:58):
Next steps the man?

Speaker 1 (45:01):
Next stop the next step. Take the next step, Next up.

Speaker 13 (45:04):
Next stop, next, next up.

Speaker 2 (45:07):
This tea wants to be next. This is next up
with Tad Northfleeten Chris Gordy.

Speaker 1 (45:14):
Let's see what's next next next.

Speaker 5 (45:18):
Let's kick off the second half right here in the
Sports Talk seven ninety studios here in the Galleria area
west Loop South to be precise, and we are your
home for Astros Baseball. And let's go to the guest
line and do so. If you missed the first half
of the show, you can go to Sports seven ninety
dot com or use the free r iHeartRadio app to
get caught up. At the conclusion of this program, Stros

(45:41):
in action tonight over at minute May Park, Kansas City
makes their way in. You'll have Astros on deck at six.
Shortly after seven, we'll get first pitch. Astros avoid the sweep.
Last night, this particular gentleman I know was watching and
we get insight from our Thursday regular appreciate his pace
and its flexibility. One Brian bogas Sevic, former first round

(46:04):
started doing some pitching and made his way to the
outfield courtesy or currently excuse me on Space City Home Network.

Speaker 12 (46:10):
Bog get good morning, Martin, How you guys doing. I
understand that now that it's football season, everything takes a back.

Speaker 1 (46:17):
Seat, solexibility, you know how this goes?

Speaker 5 (46:22):
Okay, So look strows, all right, they won three of
the last nine. They avoid getting embarrassed and getting swept
all time, great performances at the play and on the
bump where you want to.

Speaker 12 (46:35):
Start, just kind of body of work as a whole.
I guess yeah, it hasn't you know, you look at
the wins and losses. It's not great, but just in general,
they're not playing poorly. The bats could be better, but
they're still not one hun that lineup. So I think
just the consistency that with which they're pitching and the

(47:00):
that we know eventually guys are gonna get hot. Like, yeah,
you would like to be winning more games, but I
don't think there's anything that's alarming.

Speaker 8 (47:09):
It's it's so interesting, Brian and how that game played out,
and man, you just you're watching jord On starting to
slug those home runs yesterday and you're going, god, it
would have been it would have been nice to have
one of those the night before or the night before that.
But you know, hopefully this opens the floodgates and kind
of gets some of that power back going for yord On.
But what did you make of how the Astros got

(47:29):
after Tywan Walker?

Speaker 12 (47:32):
You know, he's Tomin Walker. He's he's the kind of
pitcher that they can really beat up on. He's doesn't
really have power stuff anymore. There's not a lot of
swing in this. They've got a lot of high contact bats,
and you know the results showed. But yeah, getting not
just jord On obviously he's the most important offensive piece,
but just getting the offensive. The pitching has carried such

(47:56):
a heavy load over the last gosh, I mean it's
been weak now maybe a month now. It would be
nice to have some games like that where the offense just,
you know, kind of blows the doors off the other
team and you can coast to a victory, because there
hadn't been a whole.

Speaker 8 (48:12):
Lot of those.

Speaker 5 (48:14):
Talking with Brian Bogiseevik Space City Home Network Astro's analysts
joining us for his weekly typically at ten thirty again,
thanks for his flexibility.

Speaker 1 (48:23):
Uh, Jordan Alvarez mashing and how do you explain this?

Speaker 5 (48:30):
I Tea's going all the time we're here, and I'm like,
you're not hadn't hit a home run in a while,
and then he'll rattle off, you know, fourth in five games,
or you know, three in a row last night. What
is that just baseball? Or what's going through his mind?
Is that time year? How do we explain Jordon?

Speaker 12 (48:46):
And when they come in bunches like that, Uh, that's
typically how they come home run, you know, even for
guys like Jordan who have huge power. I mean, he's
still a hitter first, and he's up there trying to
put together good at bats, trying to you know, hit
the ball hard, put the ball and put the ball
in play, drive and run. That's what he is first
and foremost. And then every once in a while you

(49:08):
just get to a point where you're catching it a
little bit out front, you know, you're getting under it
a little bit, and those line drives turn into home runs.

Speaker 1 (49:15):
You know.

Speaker 12 (49:15):
He's the kind of guy where they turn into really
impressive home runs and he can hit a whole bunch.
But yeah, home runs for guys who are hitters first,
home runs usually do come in bunches like that.

Speaker 8 (49:28):
It's Ago Brian Bogasavic and Brian was so good. I mean,
Spencer Getty him and Hunter around. What they've become here
the last couple of months is it's been nothing short
of amazing. And to become two really reliable arms for
a rotation of the future. I mean you just kind
of look ahead to the future and go, all right, well,
we'll get Havir back, you know, hopefully get mccullery's back.
Like you start to look at it and go, damn,

(49:49):
these guys can continue to pitch like this and solidify
themselves as BOTAFI starters in Major League Baseball. It's gonna
help everything. But it's also going to help Joe Spot
as we get closer to the playoffs and make it
difficult decision on who you lean on. If all these
guys keep pitching like this with runout Blanco, what Justin
Verlander back, and Frober doing what Robert's doing.

Speaker 12 (50:09):
It's crazy to think that come playoff time, it's going
to be really hard to decide who the four best
guys are because, you know, not too long ago we
were trying to figure out if we had four guys.
So yeah, it's been huge. I mean, what those two
guys in particular have done in terms of putting together

(50:31):
everything throughout the course of the season, taking individual pitches
and figuring out how to build an entire repertoire and
game plan and basically doing it on the fly while
they're you know, facing major league lineups every five days
had been really impressive. And yeah, moving forward, you know,
you're talking about those two guys, you know, in the

(50:52):
infancy of their pitching careers, and then you can have
a guy like Frober throw Christian Javier back in there.
Eventually it it goes from really quickly we don't have
very much pitching till we've got quite.

Speaker 1 (51:05):
A bit Bogie. Think about.

Speaker 5 (51:11):
Chas McCormick and God bless his heart, it just it
hasn't been there this year and he's getting an option
to sugar Land and we'll see what requisite move. The
team announces this afternoon real quick, just on Chazz and
then more so pivoting into the rumor of Jason Hayward
potentially joining the roster.

Speaker 12 (51:32):
Yeah, so it stinks for Chazz because he's tried to
work his way out of it, but you know, it's
become apparent that what needs to be fixed isn't going
to be fixed in a cage, and it needs to
be fixed by getting regular at bats, and he just
wasn't going to get regular at bats at this point
at the big league level. It stinks, but you know,

(51:55):
if you're thinking long term, you know he comes spring
training that year, he's going to be right back in
the mix in the outfield. So to get him right,
he's going to have to go play, and hopefully he
figures it out quickly and gets back into the mix
here before the end of the season. But he's got
to play. He's got to get timing, he's got to
fix some things in this swing, and you just can't
do that in the cage. In terms of the corresponding move,

(52:20):
if it is Jason Hayward, which seems like it is,
it's a marginal upgrade. It's more of a situational upgrade.
You get a guy who's a left handed bat who
for the last five years or so has played pretty
much exclusively against right handed pitching. And as tough as
it was for Chaz, if he was going to give

(52:40):
you anything, it was going to be against a lefty.
So Hayward you get the other side of that. So
it just gives you a different option. You know, you
can use Mauricio Dubon in the outfield against a left
handed pitcher. You can use Jason Hayward against the right
handed pitcher, and you know, but it's a no risk,
low cost, marginal upgrade at this point. But you know,

(53:01):
we've seen with Ben Gammel, if the guy comes in
and catches fire for a week, it can kind of
be a shot in the arm. So that's kind of
what I don't think that's, you know, a season altering
move by any means.

Speaker 8 (53:13):
By the way, thirteen years ago, just this past week,
thirteen years ago, almost to the week, Brian bogus Evic
three home runs in five games, had one against Chicago
against the Cubs here at Mint May Park. Then he
had one against the Giants, and then I don't know
if we count this one kind of a cheapie you
did it out in Colorado against the Rockies.

Speaker 1 (53:34):
I guess we count.

Speaker 5 (53:36):
Also, records do matter, apparently on this show, I say, God, Bogie,
only certain records matter and certain stats matter.

Speaker 1 (53:43):
So it's good to know. I agree with you. Ball
les aren't Matt.

Speaker 10 (53:47):
Was that?

Speaker 8 (53:47):
But was that the same thing you were talking about,
like you come in bunches like you're just feeling the
power that week?

Speaker 12 (53:53):
Yes, even for even for really bad hitters, they can
come in bunches as well.

Speaker 5 (53:58):
Talking with Brian Bogusvig Space City Hall Network, Astros analysts,
former draft selection, first rounded by the Astros, playing some
five seasons here in Houston. Okay, I think I'm done
with Philly. I mean it was rough, but they salvage it.
They come on back here and I'm checking the standings. Yep,

(54:20):
three and a half game steal. You're worried about the
Manners creeping up? And then I'm using that to start
having some Royals conversation. Royals seventy five and fifty nine
on the season. They are just one game back of
the Cleveland Guardians.

Speaker 12 (54:34):
Yeah, the ro the Royals are a serious team. I
mean I know that going into the season, expectations weren't
all that high. They were a team who was kind
of on the rise, but they've proved that they're ahead
of schedule. I mean, they've got serious star power in
Bobby Witt and a very good starting rotation. So they're

(54:55):
a serious contender. And they seem like the teams who
think this is their shot. I mean, they just made
up a bunch of ground to close the close the
gap on Cleveland and they're playing really well, so it's
almost going to be playoff style baseball against the Royals
for the next four days. And then, yeah, I'm always
worried about the Mariners when you can pitch the way
they can and you know, shut a team down for

(55:16):
an entire series and and you know, sweep a series
or win a series by scoring five or six runs. Yeah,
I am not going to be off of the Mariners
being a threat until it's out of reach for them.
I think there's just too much pitching on that team
to ever put them away.

Speaker 1 (55:35):
All Right.

Speaker 5 (55:36):
That's the voice and opinions of the great Brian Boga Sevic.
Follow him, won't you?

Speaker 12 (55:41):
At?

Speaker 5 (55:41):
Brian b r I A N. Boga Sevic b O
g U S E V. I see you can't miss him.
He's on Space City, adorned appropriately, quite handsome fellow rocking
some gear, buttoned up quite nice. Keep it up, Bogie,
you're representing us well here on next up dropping Bob
his weekly typically at ten thirty, was kind enough to shift.

Speaker 1 (56:02):
Some things today.

Speaker 12 (56:04):
All right, guys, see you next week.

Speaker 5 (56:05):
All right, man, have a good holiday weekend. We'll do
it next week. Let's do that what do we not
We have not talked. Texans practice squad is out. Gordon
who is on the list, How does that impact the team?
Other players that made the fifty three spoke yesterday and
NFL post fifty three roster breakdown is out. We'll discuss

(56:26):
on the other side of Sports Talk seven ninety Real
Texas Talking.

Speaker 1 (56:29):
Listen.

Speaker 2 (56:31):
This is next up with stab Northfleet and Chris Gordy.
During this next stage on Sports Talk seven ninety. We
had to make some tough cuts, so it's not easy.

Speaker 14 (56:47):
I want to keep everybody, all the guys that have
helped guys that have helped us win games last year.

Speaker 1 (56:53):
It's tough to make those calls here.

Speaker 14 (56:56):
You know, you can't keep everybody. So we feel like
myself and Nick put together the best roster we can
of the fifty three guys for right now, right and
as you guys know, the roster is ever changing, right,
It's always moving pieces, and the first initial fifty three
is never the final fifty three. So it's always our
job to continue to upgrade our roster in all areas.

Speaker 5 (57:21):
Demik Orians taking the podium. This was yesterday, day before yesterday,
as the Texans needed to get down to the fifty
three and they have done. So the next up was
what does the practice squad look like? As it is
a little as many as seventeen, it's really sixteen, but
you do get your international designation if you will, which

(57:46):
the Texans took advantage of. Who is this Killian's zeer
is going to be He's a tackle, He's going to
be the international designee. So it looks like we would
expect the Texans, Gordy, to have seventeen. They announced officially
twelve on the practice squad, signed yesterday and brought back

(58:08):
Solomon Byrd. I won't read all the names, but the
defensive end couple defensive end Solomon Birds and Malik Fisher
for those concerned about the defensive line. Three offensive tackles,
a couple of linebackers. There's Johnny Johnson, a third at
white receiver. You can only have I think it's six veterans,
and I would presume DeAngelo Ross might occupy one of

(58:31):
those spots. Cam Irving one of the tackles as well.
So just real quick from you, Gordy, and I don't.

Speaker 1 (58:36):
Want to rest.

Speaker 5 (58:36):
We got some time here when you look at just
the initial thinking about the fifty three and then now
these twelve practice squad who they are and the designations
doing it. Does anything jump out for you? Giving the
names on the Texans Peace squad.

Speaker 8 (58:51):
Well, I just think you did. The offensive lineman is
what we're gonna have to watch. I mean, it became
a factor last years. It's gonna you know, hold fingers crossed,
but's probably likely going to become a factor again this year.

Speaker 1 (59:02):
So you know, you just you want to make sure
you have some depth there.

Speaker 8 (59:05):
You want to make sure you have some guys in
your practice squad that you can continue to develop. And
you know, we always talk about it's addressing the you know,
the NFL doesn't really have a it's not like to
have a Triple A that you could send a guy
down to.

Speaker 1 (59:19):
I mean, it's the SEC. They do have it, but
you can't send him back. I can't.

Speaker 8 (59:22):
I can't send him back to college to go develop
for two games and then come back versus Indian NEP.
You know, your only option is to send put them
on this practice squad where they can get some reps,
get some individual work. But then also you do get
to go up against some of your guys and practice
throughout the week and you know, maybe that that develops.
But yeah, I mean, if if i'm if you're asking
me for a prediction here, I would I would definitely,

(59:45):
you know, I would place a bet that it is
likely we see Cameron Irving or Killing's I hear maybe
even David Sharp as you know, as a call up
at some point this see, well, I'm JUSTNL has had
a history of you know, the game missed here and there.
He's played to his credit's played through a lot of injuries,
but every year he's got something with him. Every year's

(01:00:06):
got something. It's it's more than likely you're gonna have
some guys miss some time. Jack Mason's on Spring Chicken.
So you know, the whole here is that you can
develop some depth there.

Speaker 5 (01:00:20):
As for the gentleman that made it. And I presume
it's gonna be a really cool weekend for a couple
of players. Uh, some young guys. Uh, some guys on
the bubble. You know John met you, the third was
on the bubble. You think about Xavier Hutchinson being on
the bubble and uh. Demiko and Nick Cassio were asked
about those who played British Brooks British Brooks, apparently overnight

(01:00:43):
has kind of crept into John Singleton's territory, whereas like
he's not one of your favorite players, but you fall
in love with the story.

Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
British Brooks got a story.

Speaker 5 (01:00:53):
He was a walk on at the Universe of North Carolina,
he was undrafted, roocky free agent signing with the Texans,
and now he he's made to fifty three as the
fifth running back. I think that's pretty cool. Let me
hear from British Brooks, fifth running back for the Texans
his rookie season.

Speaker 15 (01:01:08):
Just very appreciative of just you know, being a part
of the team first and foremost, and just you know,
like I said, being very appreciative of nicking coach Demko
is giving me this opportunity. And really I'm I'm down
for whatever they need me at. To be honest, I mean,
I don't care if I gotta play centerio line. You know,
wherever they need me, they run from me.

Speaker 8 (01:01:26):
Are you surprised that British Brooks made it know that
he doesn't have a British accent.

Speaker 1 (01:01:31):
Stop it. I feel like we should hear play the Queen.
What's the music when the Queen enters the room? Dum
d I don't do that. That's what they should do
when he scores a touchdown play the British British music
don't do that. Now I'm shy.

Speaker 8 (01:01:45):
I mean, look, he had a nice preseason all that,
but for them to keep as many runs again, that
tells you they did not want to risk losing him
in trying to stash it to the practice squad. I mean,
that's why they kept him on this roster. And honestly,
cam Akers they like what they saw, the cam Akers
and they didn't want to lose him either. And I
think Dario open ball all lea, they probably could have

(01:02:06):
moved on from them, but they do like what he
gives them in special teams and all that. I just think,
I don't know, man, I can't remember a time where
a team has kept they've broken set a fifty three roster,
kept five running backs five.

Speaker 5 (01:02:18):
I've been doing this a long time now. He's saying
free So British Brooks, we'll see who the player is.
So you mentioned the developmental tag. We'll see and there
are some and I heard it this morning from a
local pundit that covers the National Football League and the
Texans in this city. He said that British Brooks story,
the story is very reminiscent of Arion Foster and his

(01:02:43):
rise in his story here in the city of Houston.

Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
And I thought that was kind of cool. I'm happy
for Brooks. I don't know him.

Speaker 5 (01:02:51):
Maybe i'll meet him the night over there at the
Texan Shindig coming up this afternoon, But I do think
it's intriguing. Now it's not how you start, it's finished.
Can he stay on the team? You make the initial
fifty three? And that part is cool? Who did I
hear from yesterday?

Speaker 10 (01:03:06):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (01:03:07):
We heard from Xavier Hutchinson. He was another guy that
I thought he said something cool about. Let me hear
this Hutchison three, Him and John MATCHI kind of iron
and shopping and iron is something that continues to come
up in conversation over there at NRG.

Speaker 16 (01:03:22):
Yeah, I think honestly, I mean, when you have a
group of guys in the room that can all play,
it's going to naturally just make you better. With MATCHI
I think, you know, we were kind of in the
same not same I wouldn't say same area or same bubble,
but you know, he had some things that he had
to work on just getting back from health and everything.
So I think, you know, I feel like we we

(01:03:43):
didn't say it, but we just kind of naturally challenged
each other to really just try and reach our full capabilities.
You know, I'm proud of it. He deserves this, he
worked hard for it. I can't wait to see what
he does too this year.

Speaker 1 (01:03:57):
All right.

Speaker 5 (01:03:58):
That's Xavier Hutchison's year man draft selection out of Iowa
State last year, and I suspect Hutchison will take the
next step in his game. Gordy, I think we're gonna
look up and there gonna be some moments like we
saw with Norah Brown last year. By the way, it
is official, Noeh Brown did sign with the Washington Commanders.

(01:04:19):
I think we're gonna look up some games and go damn,
Hutchinson saved. I asked today whether it's a key grab,
whether it's just one game that he rattles off. You know,
what is it five catches for one hundred and two
yards and a tud or something. I like hutch I
think he is what the National Football League is and
I'm gonna pivot back to British Brooks and make this

(01:04:41):
common as well. Forty percent of the NFL year over
year is undrafted. That goes up to something like sixty percent.
When you think about guys that were drafted outside of
the first two days of a draft. You can fight,
scratch and claw your way to being a productive contributor
on really successful teams, and I think Hutchinson most certainly

(01:05:01):
fits that bill. We'll see if British Brooks does.

Speaker 8 (01:05:04):
Yeah, it just to me it would have to be
later in the year for Hutchinson because it does feel
like you got your big three in Diggs, Collins, in Tankdell,
and then Robert Woods is kind of the fourth.

Speaker 1 (01:05:14):
So I don't know.

Speaker 8 (01:05:15):
I mean, maybe there'll be certain packages they get him
in in the field and you know, maybe you know,
he gets in and they go deep to him and
the Texans or you know, it's it's one of those
things where defense isn't prepared for him.

Speaker 1 (01:05:27):
But one of the Texans.

Speaker 8 (01:05:28):
Note Will Anderson did return to practice yesterday, didn't take
part in drills, was jogging, doing warm up kind of something,
just to keep it on again, a full expectation is
going to be ready for the Colts game.

Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
He's still got plenty of time, but you know, it's
like that.

Speaker 8 (01:05:42):
It's it's not it's not the extreme of the cal Tucker,
but it's like, okay, so he's he's out there, he's jogging,
but he's still not taking part in the drills.

Speaker 5 (01:05:49):
Will Anderson Jr. Did return to practice, as you just said,
without helmet and cleats, so he was around, he wasn't
doing anything. Who did do something at practice yesterday? Jeff
Okuda returns as well as Tim Settle Junior, both of
those full participants in yesterday's first practice with the fifty
three man roster. Gordon, we got whether let's see this weekend, oh,

(01:06:14):
whether you're going over to min and May Park, whether
you have plans Labor day. You got some friends that
would like to make sure. Maybe you're on the fifty
three man roster and you now that you makeing some jack,
you need to get the girl friend or the family
to take care of Gordia. You got some friends in
the automotive industry that would like to help out the
people with that didn't signify boys.

Speaker 8 (01:06:31):
This is calling all used car shoppers. It's Fred Haster
the world. Their end of summer used car clearance sale
is on right now. You could shop Saturday, save on Sunday,
over one hundred used cars, trucks and SUV's clearance priced
under fifteen grand.

Speaker 1 (01:06:46):
Under fifteen grand.

Speaker 8 (01:06:48):
Buys used cars plus you get a complementary lifetime edge
of warranty. It is Fred Haster The World. There open
every Sunday. Go check them out. Fred hastert World. Get
yourself in a fresh ride, heading into the fall, to the.

Speaker 7 (01:07:00):
Neck, to the dirt.

Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
Rob This is next up.

Speaker 2 (01:07:04):
You kind of hit on everything I wanted to say
with Stan nor Vliet and Chris Gordy on Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (01:07:11):
Twenty eight minutes from now, you'll hear the voices of
Matt Thomas and Ross Vere Realist. The Matt Thomas Show
will take you from noon to three. Right after that
you'll get Adam Wesler and Adam Clinton.

Speaker 1 (01:07:24):
They are the A team.

Speaker 5 (01:07:25):
And then after that you get Astros on deck and
then we get the Kansas City Roys in town tonight
for game one of a four game series here at
min in May Park, a holiday week and many of
you are excited. Thank you for allowing us to be
a part of it. Houston, our favorite city and your
home for Houston sports right here on seven ninety we're
real Texans also talking. Listen, we continue the Texans conversation

(01:07:46):
as twelve members of the practice squad have been designated.
You know we have the fifty three man roster. Unfortunately
you got the season ending injury for Chase. I know
a fan favorite former coug if there is such a
thing as a former Koog and case keenom we presume

(01:08:07):
will be around. Power rankings are out Gordia. As it
pertains to the post fifty three man roster, I want
to get to that here momentarily. But someone that I
think I certainly respect their work for side dot com,
I believe, is this Connor Orr's work. It is Connor
or put out on sside dot com predicting every game

(01:08:30):
of the twenty twenty four NFL season and obviously will
be hyper focused, all two hundred and seventy two of them.
So when we come down here to the AFC South,
what does he have going on? Let's see, I had
the AFC South. He does have the Texans winning the
AFC South, Gordy, But the actual predictions may make some

(01:08:55):
folks a little nervous. He's got the Texans is nine
and eight at Indianapolis in week one. So I won't go,
excuse me game by game for the sake of time,
but he's got the Texans at nine and eight, Colts
at nine and eight, Jags at seven and ten, and
Tennessee Titans six and eleven. If you're new to the

(01:09:16):
station and new to the show, I have the Texans
at ten and seven on paper right now. We'll see
what happens as we actually get into week one preparations
starting next week, Gordon, but just as a as a context,
right as a scene said, Texans at nine and eight.
I can't remember where you had the Texans at on paper.
Now that the rosters at fifty three and you see

(01:09:37):
what we're dealing with here, how do you feel about that?
Texans at nine and eight, and then we'll get to
the write up of what he has to say specifically
about Houston. Think nine is pretty accurate. I mean again,
this is gonna be a tough We'll see. We'll see
what Jabriel do week one. I still think you're sent
on the interior defensive line. You're playing Joshi Taylor in Indianapolis.
They're gonna pound the rock.

Speaker 8 (01:09:56):
Anthony Richardson had been great this preseason, but a lot
people expecting him being fully healthy. Now that he's gonna
you know, he's gonna throw the ball around and look good.
So let's just say, hypothetically, storry for the loss there.
We feel good about Chicago. We feel good about going
to Minnesota with yes, whatever the hello playing quarterback home
against Jacksonville's one. Yeah, that was a dog fight last year,

(01:10:18):
but the one you should win here. You lost it
here last year. Buffalo comes in. We don't know a
Buffalo's like without Stefan Dicks. Some people are saying you're
gonna see a more well rounded Josh Allen and that
he may run more. He may, you know, they so
it may be, you know, the offense still electric, but
just not you know, without digs. Maybe he runs more.

(01:10:40):
We said, James Cook developed as one of the better
running backs in the league. Lass So I don't know.
That's a fifty to fifty game. And then you're at
New England. We expect New England to stink, but it's
still is always tough to play. And I pause you
while you're at New England, don't lose your train of thought.
Adam Scheffler had it this morning. The Patriots have designated

(01:11:00):
Jacoby Brissett as the week one starter. So the Drake
May era will have to wait at least one week.
And I'll predict by week six strict Max probably start.
Is that the week that the Patriots come here. No,
you're in New England at New England and that is
week six, correct. Yeah, and then you follow that up
with a trip to green Bay, which, even when green

(01:11:20):
Bay's average, it's a tough place to play. Then you're
home for Indianapolis. You're at New York where you've lost
lost last year. Your home for Detroit is gonna be tough.
You're at Dallas. It's gonna be tough. Home for Tennessee.
You know, we we'll just say you split the AFC
South games. But that December it gets it's the Dolphins
at the Chiefs home for the Ravens. I mean, that's

(01:11:41):
where you could talk about losing three in a row.
And that's why I think nine to eight is fair.

Speaker 5 (01:11:45):
So for sake of accuracy, that December stretch that you're
talking about, connor Or has Week sixteen at Kansas City
al Baltimore. Here in the Houston Week seventeen, al Week
eighteen at to see l and that's how he comes
up with nine to eight. We'll take your phone calls
on the Texans seven one three two one two five

(01:12:07):
seven ninety. Here's connor Or's right up on the Texans
first sentence, I think says a lot. I wanted to
go big and orchestrate a surprise end of season run
from the Indianapolis coach to take the division crown, but
I could not justify it that advantage goes to the Texans,
even though he has them losing the three games at

(01:12:28):
the end of the season. Uh, Texans losses on the
schedule the de duta, they could become uncharacteristic.

Speaker 12 (01:12:36):
Ah.

Speaker 5 (01:12:37):
My response is that thirty percent of Houston snaps last
year were against backup quarterbacks. Houston had one of the
worst strength of schedule ratings heading into the season last year,
and critical stretches of the season they were playing against
bad teams, replacement quarterbacks or both, and they still lost

(01:12:57):
to a middling Jags and Jets a year ago. That's
why I saw eight and a half wins as a
kind of tipping point for this current season. So he
took the over and he said he wanted to go
eight and a half. He has him at nine to eight.
Vegas has the Texans at nine and a half. I'm
taking the over saying ten and seven. So that's how

(01:13:18):
we landed there. What did he say about CJ Stroud?
Real quickly? While many are projecting a kind of coronation
year for CJ. Stroud, I am planning for something more
like a plateau unless the offense really evolves by leaps
and bounds combined with the true mastery of Demico Ryans

(01:13:38):
shining as a head coach.

Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
So he has the offense with the addition of.

Speaker 5 (01:13:42):
Joe Mixon and Steph Diggs Connor or has the offense
plateau in Yeah.

Speaker 8 (01:13:47):
See, I would have made that case if they had
just stepp sat status quo. But when you add Stefan
Diggs and Joe Mixon and a healthy offensive line, I mean,
unless CJ is just gonna get man, he can't readefense
very well and he's throwing and his interception total ticks
up and he starts fifteen sixteen interceptions Like that's the
only way I could see it him not being as good.

Speaker 5 (01:14:08):
I just don't see a regression now. I said this
around the draft coming out of last year. CJ like
CJ could look better. But the stats like whatever he
was not throwing, the interceptions and how efficient he was
and all of the yacht, it may not look the same,
meaning the numbers may not look the same, but the performance,

(01:14:29):
the execution of the offense could look better. And I
expect that it will go to the phone lines again.
Seven one, three, two point two, five, seven, ninety. Let's
go up on the north side of the city. What
was really good?

Speaker 1 (01:14:41):
Y'all hadn't lost?

Speaker 3 (01:14:42):
Y'all mine? Nine and eight. No, that's why he said
nine the author I would tell you what's gonna happen here.
We're going thirteen and four. Oh, I mean we're gonna
go out. We're gonna come out the gate. Six and oh,
right off the bat. Those little games there, we're gonna
roll through them people. When we go to green Bay,
that to be our first loss. And when we get

(01:15:04):
to the Detroit at home, we had to be our
first loss at home with Detroit. Then when we get
to December, that's when we're gonna lose to Baltimore. We
would lose the Kansas City, but we will get our
revenge in a divisional game against Baltimore. We will see
Kansas City in the championship game and whoop, they tail
and go to the Super Bowl. Thirteen and four. We

(01:15:26):
have a team here that's really fit to make some
noise in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (01:15:30):
My man would up on the north side.

Speaker 5 (01:15:32):
As we wrap up this segment, Gordon, he says, thirteen
wins Now, that would be somebody hit me up on
social at stand Sportsman yesterday afternoon. Stan, we're gonna go
twelve and five? In my comment then is my comment? Now,
I will be pleasantly surprised if they're able to get
twelve or thirteen wins. Let's look at recent history, Gordon.

(01:15:54):
One team, one team in all of football last year
had more than twelve wins. The ball More Ravens went
thirteen and four with a near unanimous MVP. That's the
effort it takes from a guy like CJ. Stroud to
get up on that level.

Speaker 8 (01:16:09):
I hate to keep picking old wounds, but yeah, okay,
maybe if they had a Mully Collins at Sheldon Rankins
back on the interior d Lion taking the game, you
are worse on the interior defense.

Speaker 5 (01:16:20):
If the roster is overall better, you agree the fifty
three top to bottom I'm asking you, is it healthier
this year?

Speaker 1 (01:16:28):
Better this year?

Speaker 8 (01:16:29):
But that's like saying like Tom Herman signed a top
five recruiting class of Texas, but it included like six
wide receivers. Okay, great, you're awesome at that spot, but
what about the trenches? What about the old Lions? D
lie like, just because you have a better roster overall
doesn't mean you still don't have a massive weakness.

Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
You say yesterday you don't like this line back in court?

Speaker 5 (01:16:47):
No line my cord makes me nervous Without Aziz al Shaya,
he is a bottler. I feel cool as long as
he's in there with a healthy Christian Harris. I haven't
seen Christian Harris healthy, so yes, I am concerned. But
when all is well, I think they'll be as competitive
as any other unit in this division overall. When you
add up all fifty three, we'll continue talking Texans on

(01:17:09):
the other side. Seven one three, two, one two five
seven ninety. Now, whether you're thinking about which quarterback can
throw for three hundred yards, howe about a receiver in

Again onto done next twenty.

Speaker 1 (01:18:57):
What's next?

Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
I spore off. Next Up continues now on Sports Talk
seven ninety, home of your World champion Houston Astros.

Speaker 5 (01:19:07):
Still not tired of that track? All right, let's wrap
things up here on a Thursday, Sports Talk seven ninety
studios here in the Galleria. Name of the show is
Next Up. Matt Thomas, Rossvierrriale on deck, Stan Fleet, Gordy
taking your phone calls, talking Texans and the National Football League.
Side dot Com NFL writer Connor Or predicts the Texans

(01:19:29):
to win the AFC South. He has them losing in
Week one at Indianapolis and then losing three games in
a row to end the season. Nonetheless, nine and eight
is where he has the map. So coming out of
the fifty three man roster, there's another publication or an

(01:19:49):
OUTLETUSA dot Com USA Today, excuse me, and they have
their writer. Who's this guy, Jack mckessey. Jack says, if
you look at the odds to win the Super Bowl,
top five, Philly in Detroit both tie, coming in at
plus twelve hundred, Baltimore at third plus one thousand, San

(01:20:13):
fran at second plus six hundred. As you can imagine,
Mahomes' Kansas City Chiefs plus five hundred come in at
number one, Cincinnati Bengals at six plus fourteen, and then
tied at seventh Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, and Houston
Texans seven best odds to win the Super Bowl at
plus sixteen hundred. I don't understand the love affair that

(01:20:36):
the media has with the Buffalo Bills. I just don't
think you lose two of your top four receivers. They've
got a gang of offensive linemen that are banged up
or defensive lineman as well. In the trenches, they're not
as healthy as they once were.

Speaker 1 (01:20:49):
And that feeling is.

Speaker 5 (01:20:51):
Somewhat corroborated by ESPN dot com, who polled one hundred
and three NFL players. Who is the most overrated quarterback
in the league doesn't mean he's not still good, just
means who's overrated?

Speaker 1 (01:21:05):
Number one? Josh Allen of the Bills. Do you agree
with that? Is Josh Allen the most overrated?

Speaker 10 (01:21:14):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:21:15):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:21:16):
That he's number one. I would have brock Purdy came
at this list as at time for six. Brock Perdy's
on that list.

Speaker 8 (01:21:22):
For me, I will tell you Brocketts underrated. He doesn't
get enoughle of. Justin Herbert comes in a third on
his list. Herbert is a bit overrated for me. You
know it's a bit.

Speaker 5 (01:21:31):
You know what else, Jordan Love is overrated. Deshaun Watson
came in as number five on this list.

Speaker 1 (01:21:36):
We just look it up. You know what.

Speaker 8 (01:21:37):
The last like awesome game Deshaun Watson had was twenty
in a texansforms Like he has not been awesome at all.
And with moving some money around, it sounds like they're
gonna have an eighty million dollar cap hit in twenty
twenty five.

Speaker 15 (01:21:51):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (01:21:51):
I know we're talking NFL, but this is a bit
of breaking news and I'm an NBA geek. The Golden
State Warriors and Steph Curry have agreed to a one
year extension that will keep him under contract through the
twenty six twenty seven season. Obviously a woes bomb. The
figure one year, sixty two point six million dollars unbelievable.

(01:22:14):
I mean, good god, the NBA money is different. He's
almost in Lebron territory. Like it doesn't matter what the number,
like he's worth. Oh no, he has a number. Steph
Curry has added billions to the ownership group. The things
that Joe Lake have been those boys in the Bay
Area raking in dough in the Chase Center in Fra.

Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
I saw a picture of Clik Thompson and a Maverick.
I forgot. I forgot he's signed them. That's gonna be weird.
It is talking NFL.

Speaker 5 (01:22:43):
And now as we wrap up the show, Will and Cyprus,
let's talk some textans, shall we?

Speaker 12 (01:22:48):
Yes?

Speaker 13 (01:22:48):
Sir, Hey, Gordy uh Man, you had said something the
other day about trade and MATCHI I just kind of
wanted to ask a little question about regard. Like I mean,
at the end of the season, God forbid Tank Nico,
anyone gets hurt. I would much rather have Mechi right
there than a.

Speaker 12 (01:23:08):
Fourth round or a fifth round.

Speaker 17 (01:23:09):
And even trying to build a dynasty like the Chiefs,
you want to have guys that you're comfortable with, and
so I know he's on the fifty three man, but
like moving forward, trying to build a dynasty, I just
kind of wanted to get your thoughts on that, like
keeping young guys, especially with MESSI he's got a feel
good story.

Speaker 11 (01:23:26):
Is the dog from Alabama.

Speaker 1 (01:23:28):
Everybody talks good about him.

Speaker 12 (01:23:29):
Like keeping these young guys together.

Speaker 4 (01:23:31):
To really build momentum moving forward.

Speaker 8 (01:23:33):
Yeah, I'm I'm with you. Well, I'm I'm always team
keep matching. I'm cause, like I said, you get a
late round pick, I don't. I'd rather keep John and
develop him and see what you have there.

Speaker 5 (01:23:43):
I remind you the Texans have shown you the philosophy
right now with CJ. Stroud on a rookie deal. They're
the second oldest team and this was prior to the
cut down, but this they're the second oldest team in
term of ninety players under contract in the nf We'll
see what it is now under the new fifty three.
I might have that for you tomorrow. They're going with veterans.

(01:24:06):
They don't believe that the young guys are the way
to get you over the hump. Now you do have
to blend it together, and they've got a ton of
young guys that are going to be a part of
the nucleus if this does indeed turn into Mahomesy in
type dynasty. But you got to crawl before you walk,
and they got to find a way to beat Baltimore,
Kansas City and the light to creep back or to

(01:24:26):
get into the AFC title game. A couple other things
here on an NFL front. Chris Ballad is a guy
that I like as a GM in Indianapolis, within the
division with the Texans, but he had a historically bad draft.
The Coats released three of their twenty twenty four draft picks.

(01:24:47):
Their fifth, sixth, and seventh round selections have all been cut.
Don't know how many of those guys came back to
the practice squad.

Speaker 1 (01:24:54):
That was a bit weird.

Speaker 5 (01:24:56):
How about also NFL nugget the South Paulo, Brazil, right
where the NFL is supposed to be kicking off Week one,
that's next Thursday, Green Bay Packers Eagles. Apparently there are
severe wildfires in over thirty cities, with also crime apparently
just being out of control, borderline anarchy. There's also been

(01:25:21):
a spike in pneumonia, asthma attacks, rhinitis, and conjunctivitis per
local health officials in South Paulo, Brazil and neighboring.

Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
Cities.

Speaker 8 (01:25:37):
Like good lord, yeah, like can we keep look they
get TV's over there, they can watch the games. You know,
we don't have to keep bringing the games over these places.
Good lord, we'll play them here. Y'all can watch them there.

Speaker 5 (01:25:49):
Speaking of watching college football tonight as well as the
Mastros guard it something refreshing.

Speaker 8 (01:25:55):
Well yeah, and not only that, but how about a
grand opening today? How about the grand opening of pizza
and pints over there car Bock Brewing. I got over
there last night. They had a little bit of a
soft opening VP kind of thing to show everybody around
on what it's all about. And let's just be honest. Here,
damn good pizza, damn good bruise, Crawford Bock on tap,

(01:26:17):
fun party atmosphere. They got TVs in there. You can
watch the Astros, you can watch college football, whatever it is.
Get on over there to Carbock Brewing and like you said,
opening a grant opening today. Pizza and Pints opening today
eleven am to nine Thursday through Monday. They got daily prizes,
daily features, the Neapolitan style pizza. Tried that yesterday. Incredible

(01:26:38):
again fresh car Bock Brews right there on tap. Family friendly.
You can bring the kids and the whole family out there.
Great spot. It's inside. It's air conditioned, so you can
walk outside in the beer garden if you want, or
just stay inside in the ac with the TVs. Over
there at Pizza and Pizza and Pints, check it out
over there at Carbock Brewing. Pikes of Pizza open today

(01:26:58):
right there, car Boco. Check them out for Connor, Gordy Fleet,
all of you. Thank you, Houston. We're up against it.
God willing with doore it again tomorrow. Y'all be well.
