With Sunday's 41-21 victory over the New England Patriots, the Houston Texans have won three straight games and are one of only three teams in the NFL with five wins through Week 6. "Not a lot to complain about if you're a Texans fan." KPRC reporter Aaron Wilson joins Next Up to break down Houston's first ever win at Gillette Stadium. C.J. Stroud threw three touchdown passes to spoil rookie quarterback Drake Maye's debut. Running backs Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce returned from injury and each rushed for a touchdown. "When they have a running game... they're a different kind of team," Wilson said. The offense rushed for 192 yards against the Patriots, but the established run attack opened up the field for the passing game, with Stefon Diggs recording six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown and Tank Dell bringing in seven receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown. Houston's top receiver Nico Collins was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury and is expected to be out four weeks; however, "they have enough weapons with Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell to get it done." As the Texans prepare to take on the Green Bay Packers in Week 7, the NFL announced Monday that defensive tackle Mario Edwards Jr. has been suspended four games without pay for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Without an appeal, Edwards will be eligible for reinstatement on November 1. "Currently, he is suspended. I don't expect it to be overturned." With one defensive lineman out, another one comes back as Denico Autry will return from his six-game suspension against the Packers. "What a defensive line they've assembled even without Mario Edwards."

Speaker 1 (00:00):
To get a deeper dive and to also put the book,
just say close the book. On what happened up in
New England. We'll talk about Mario Edwis Junior and get
ready to talk some Green Bay. He's on the beat
for us as well as kp r C Channel two.
Aaron Wilson, Good morning to you, a dub. How you
feeling doing great?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Good morning guys, dub.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Let's let's finish off New England. The Houston Texans destroyed
a bad football team starting a rookie, took their foot
off the gas. The more talented, more experienced team. One
is that about it?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yeah? It is. You know. The earlier I think is
underscored here is that the Texans are still cable playing
a lot of points in the life without legocollins months
that they'll go through. So when they have a running game,
as it is in the Colts game and this one,
they're a different kind of team. Because you have breakaway runs,
you have physical down stuff. It opens up play action.

(01:02):
I'm surprised actually the passing game wasn't more prolific, but
it was basically a Joe mixing kind of day. But
they have enough weapons with Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell
to get it done. You'd love to see a better
performance from Dalton Sultz. Maybe it's just his an off
day by him, But that said, this formula does work,

(01:25):
and he saw the time of possession edges how tired
the Patriots were getting. And I don't think you have
to be as creative when you've got a strong running back.
I mean, that's the biggest difference. It's personnel. You know,
they were trying to do it with Cam Akers and Darglabalad.
Obviously that wasn't working because you know, Joe Mixon is
a nine million dollar a year running back. This guy's

(01:47):
been in the Pro Bowl before and he's almost as
big as the linebackers as a lot fashion, he gets
like six one twenty nine and he can still run,
and so can Damian Pierce when he gets into the
open field and his hamstring feels good. So a little
one two punch. That's how they envisioned this. They wanted
to be a physical football team. And then the other

(02:07):
side of the football. Who's going to block Will Anderson
Junior Daniel Hunter? Most teams can't do it, and the Patriots,
who allow the highest pressure rate. They can't, so a
lot of this is simple. The only thing that really
made it interesting at all was that Drake may is
a good young quarterback that he has ability, he's talented,
he's scrambled well, he challenged them, he threw the ball

(02:31):
down the field. He deep Derek Stinging Junior is a
perfect throw. He was impressive. But that's for the Patriots,
and they're no beat to be more worried about. But
I think that overall knows a take care of business
kind of day. There are a couple of injuries that
came out of this, but overall, I mean, five and one,
not a lot to complain about. If you're a Texans fan.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Yeah, mission accomplish. You're five and one. You're one of
the best teams in the NFL. So you're sitting at
a great spot here. You did mention the injuries, and
let's let's get to the two big names one one
in and one out. With Danico Autry officially reinstated from
his six game suspension for performance enhancing drug policy. Good

(03:13):
to have him back, But in the same realm, we
find out that defensive tackle Mario Edwards Junior has played
very well. Gets a four game suspension for a violation
of the NFL Substance Abuse Policy. Now, I was just
on the NFLPA website here Aaron just kind of differentiate
between uh a substance abuse policy and a performance enhancing

(03:33):
drug policy without delvin too much into their business. What
exactly is going on here with Mario Edwards losing him?

Speaker 2 (03:41):
And then right when it's substance abuse, it deals with
recreational drugs, gotcha, and a lot of the band substances
for that they did range no street drugs, things like that. People,
There's all kinds of things that can be abuse. They
can even also be your you know, ADHD type of category.
I don't know exactly whatever he's tested positifore. He did

(04:03):
have a previous driving intoxicated case that may have gotten
him into the program, but a lot of it is
pretty murky and confidential. So the bottom line is currently
he is suspended. I don't expect it to be overturned,
but you never know, perhaps something could happen. You know,
he does have legal representation. Usually by the time this happens,

(04:27):
it's been exhausted, so you know, there's it's like a
sort of soft ball to really unravel there a thread
and you know, bottom line, the NFL has made a
decision and there's not much that can be done, so
we'll see. You know, he'll be out for the four games. Ironically,
it's the same representation for both players, and they you

(04:51):
have a suspension, you have the same position, same representation.
One guy out the door for the four weeks, and
then Auxy walks back. In archery, you recall his statement
about performance enhancing saying that he didn't know what he'd
take in NFL policy is very clear. You're responsible for
everything that's in your body, so you have to be

(05:12):
very careful whatever you're ingesting with. I'm more of a
bottom line. The one and the why isn't very important.
All he matters as really as the outcome. Are you
on the field or are you not? So they have
Autry back, which is great, an eleven sac guy and
a ten million dollars a year player who's just absolutely

(05:32):
blockbusting presence and can play outside or inside, and then
you lose. Edwards was playing really good football. Edwards at
eight tackles, he was playing great. I think he rushed
the passerver really well. I think he'd done enough and
probably still has done enough to maybe warrant a possible
extension despite this suspension. He's that talented, he's a good

(05:54):
football player, and he fits the scheme perfectly. Probably affects
all this negotiating leverage because of the suspension. That said,
they in a way it's kind of a net game
because you still have gotten Autry Auchrey the better football
player as good as that words is, so this could
be a real wrecking crew of Autrey Anderson and Daniel

(06:19):
Hunter and also having you know, Tim Settle Junior is
pretty good and fully Partacasi who's a real steady right
and a big guy. I mean, what a defensive line
they've got right now assembled even without more right here,
all right.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
We're up against the Aaron So I'm gonna ask you
to be brief on this one. Getting ready to play
Jordan Love when you still have just mentioned Mario Edwar's out,
Deniko Audrey, how quickly can he get ramped up in
football shape and ready to compete. We all saw Asease
leave the game as he's l Shire the middle linebacker.
He comes back or he does not come back, dealing

(06:54):
with any concussion protocol for Henry Told Told Kamari last
to still fight with shoulder. The back end of this
thing is nicked up, going against one of the better
wide receiver and skill position groups in the league. Just
a thought from you, based on what you're hearing in
the locker room and in the building. Let's call it
thirty seconds left if we could.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Rapid fire Laramy Tunsil aggravated lingering ankle injury be managed
throughout the week. Hopefully he can go. If he can't,
Blake Fisher, Jimmy Ward groin injury is probably more than
a one week injury, I'm told, and he suffered enough
damage that you'll probably see Cavin Bullock and Eric Murray again.
Kamari Laster is expected this multiple weeks with a scapula injury.

(07:36):
That's when he got heard of the offensive pass interference
committed by Ken Coleman. Thrown on the ground, an upper
back and he's injured his shoulder blade. It could be
multiple weeks in this month. Hopefully he will return. No
surgery planned. And then the last one you're asking me
about was to Aziz al Shayer knee injury still being examined.

(07:58):
He it's not a season ending thing like that. It's
the deal where possibly he won't be available this week,
and Henry Torte because it can cut your protocol. Next
man up would be Nevill Ewitt and probably Jake Hanson
or del Sean Phillips. Yeah, but I think never Youwitt,
and you saw Neville as a thumper and calming there

(08:18):
what's called him a tackling machine? Guys, I agree with
cale scouting report. He is a tough football player. You
just lose something in past coverage without Al Shayer.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
That's the words of that was fantastic Aaron Wilson, our
Texans and NFL insider. We're all following his work at
Aaron Wilson underscore NFL. Appreciate you popping in on next
up with Gordian Fleet. We'll do it again, brother Ran.
Enjoy your day off and I know you'd be over
at NRG tomorrow. Appreciate it man.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Thanks guys, take it
