Speaker 1 (00:01):
The Volume. What is going on everybody? How are we doing?
Just got home from the Big Easy New Orleans and
(00:23):
walked in the door probably a couple hours ago. So
I thought, you know, let's do a little podcast because
we recorded with Stucky earlier in the week. He will
be on the back end of the pod. And we
dove into the game props, just gambling on it straight up.
What we liked, what we don't. I hammered home a
Jalen Travis kelcey anytime touchdown between the two of them
(00:46):
early in the week. So that's that's what I got going.
I think it pays like plus four forty, maybe it's
plus three forty. I put a thousand to win forty
five hundred, so excited to watch the game and watch
the those two guys score a touchdown. So I don't
really have any takes on the game left. We've talked
that nauseum about it with I went out with Colin
(01:08):
this week, Stucky and I, So I do want to
just go over some stuff that happened in New Orleans.
It was it was a trip. So the party, the
Volume party last night to going to somehow I was
gotten the club Shay Shay Shannon's party, not because he
invited me, but it was fun. And yeah, other than that,
(01:31):
we know mailbag and I'm not going to record a
mailbag for Saturday because I'm gonna be at Waste Management
all day tomorrow. So probably we'll talk to you next
on Sunday night with Colin. So excited for that. And yeah,
make sure you subscribe to the podcast if you listen
on Collin's feed, make sure you're subscribe to the YouTube
channel if you like watching the video presentations to the podcast.
(01:54):
And yeah, but before we dive into some football, give
a shot out two my friends, my partners in the
official ticketing app of this podcast. Do you want to
go to a game? Do you want to I as
you leave, you know the super Dome and right next
to is the Smoothie King Arena where you know Zion's
having some smoothies. But if you want to go to
a game, if you want to go to event, if
(02:15):
you want to go you name it. What do you
want to do? Go to spring training? I'm going to
Waste Management. If you're listening to this on Friday, I'm there.
So if any event type like that, you want to
go to, any concert. You know Taylor Swift. I don't
think she has an aerostour. I guess that was last
year I saw her and Blake Lively that it looks
like that friendship is over. But any concert you want
(02:35):
to go to this spring, this summer, they got you covered.
Comedy shows, you name it. You can search by the venue,
you can search by the team, you can search by
the artist, then buy the arena or the stadium. You
can search by the price point, by where you want
to sit. It shows you where the concert or the
stage is. It just doesn't get any easier to use.
(02:55):
So take the guest work out of buying tickets with
game Time. Download the game Time app, creating an account
and use the code John for twenty dollars off for
first purchase terms of play. Again, create an account, redeem
the code John for twenty dollars off down in the
game Time out the day, last minute takets, lowest price
is guaranteed. I feel very fortunate that Colin is not
(03:18):
a big believer in Radio Row, and because if he was,
I mean, what would I do not go? I would go,
and I would participate. I've always hated Radio Row. I
participated it when I was in the radio world and
I just thought it was so cookie cutter. And if
you don't have relationships and you're not super famous like
(03:39):
a Coward or steven A, your interviews with a lot
of these guys are just not very good. Now it
doesn't mean that some can't turn out to be, but
that environment is just not for me. And I'm glad
that he looks down upon it. He just shows up
for the party broadcast a couple of days live and
then he's out of there. But the main I mean,
(04:00):
the only reason I went, and I probably would not
have gone if we don't do this yearly party. Uh.
And I go really for two for two reasons to
you know, see people like Colin and other people that
run the volume, and then see which these people are
part of it as well. Are are sales teams and
the sponsors. And one consistent theme I've gotten the last
(04:21):
couple of years. And I know this going in, but
you know, when you're with people in person, you're hearing
this stuff. You know, we crush it when it comes
to the advertisers love being a part of the show.
And that's because we and when I say we, you
guys have been very successful for them because when we
(04:42):
promote stuff and we try to make it stuff that
I like, Like I'm wearing Travis Matthews right now. You guys
that campaign, they were blown away. They were like Middle
Cough is pushing some serious product. You know, game time.
We were the only show on the volume that they've
come back to when they're the efficient ticketing app of
this podcast. And it's a test to you guys, the
loyalty of this show. You know, we've kind of been
(05:04):
you know, I'm not on television every day, right, I'm
not super famous when it comes to like some of
these people that talk for a living. And that's fine,
Like I don't you couldn't pay me to be on television.
Well you probably could, but I wouldn't leave s Gottsdale.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
If you got a studio here, I might be able
to make it. But my point is that, like this
has been kind of like an underground just swinging away
at our pick and grinding now for six seven years
building this thing up, and it's it's really become very successful.
And it's I owe it all to you guys for
(05:37):
listening to show, telling people about this show and being
very loyal to what we've got going here. And I obviously,
I mean if you listen to you know, I take
this very seriously, Like I do these every day for
a reason. I've I've told a lot of people I
approach it's like a daily radio show. But this is
also my business, like this is my life, Like all
my chips are in the middle of the table on
(05:58):
this venture, like this is I own this stuff, Like
this is mine. This is all I have, Like I
don't have other, you know, side businesses like this. This
is this is my profession. And I really really appreciate
and so does everyone that's a part of this thing
is just very impressed by what we got going on.
And it's all because of you. So I mean, I
(06:20):
truly this sounds cheesy or whatever, but thank you from
the bottom of my heart for listening. Whenever you can
telling people about it. It's it's freaking awesome. And like
I said, I mean, the reason I go is like
to talk to people part of the volume I got
some ideas bruined, but you know, and also to talk
(06:40):
to the sponsors and stuff. So last night at the party,
I just a little rundown. It's a lot of people
like I would say, media people, and then there are
some like all of a sudden, you look and there
will be Torell Owens. Like God, Terrell Owens looks fantastic.
How does Torell Owens look so good? He looks exactly
(07:03):
like he did when he played for like the Eagles
in two thousand and five. I was talking to someone
on the Eagle staff. I was like, and I noticed
this a couple of weeks ago, and he brought it up.
He's like, how he looks the same. I'm like, how
he looks the exact same of when I met him
in twenty ten and he.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Was thirty five years old.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Now he's like forty nine to fifty, and he literally
looks the same. I feel like I look dramatically different
than I did five years ago. Maybe I put it
on a little weight, Uh fluctuate. You know, diet can
be up and down. But my point, it's crazy. I'm
looking at to Rollans Shannon Sharp. Shannon Sharp looks like
he could play middle linebacker for the San Fransco forty
nine ers. Like he looks like ray Lewis, except he's
(07:42):
got to buy a couple of inches. Shannon Sharp is
Matt He looks just fantastic. And I saw Matt Patricia.
I'm leaving to kind of go put you know, my
mindset going to this party. Listen, this is a business trip.
I'll have a cocktail. I'm gonna drink a lot of water,
maybe sip on a beer, but I'm not drink all
of a sudden. That was the plan.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
I was doing a pretty good job.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
But then you know, it gets like nine thirty ten,
You're like, oh, I got five or six VODs because
and this is nice. Starteds flowing. I see Matt Patricia
and I'm like, God, I've been pretty hard on this guy.
And I recently listened to some of his podcasts with
Julian Edelman, and I was like, you know what, I
kind of like this guy. Like he seems like a
likable human. I've seen him all with Portnoy. It's like,
(08:23):
I don't why I don't need to not like this guy.
He didn't do anything to me. I'm not a Patriot guy.
He had a bad year calling offense. You know, even
last year the defense was not his fault with the Eagles.
He got thrust into the situation. Now that should I
go apologize to him? Now he there's I would say
ninety five percent chance he wouldn't know me from the
man on the moon. So even if I went up
(08:45):
to him, be like, bro, yeah I don't care, but
of the slim chance that he does, obviously his reaction
to me would probably be negative. But I ended up
not doing it. But it did cross my mind. Now
everyone was leaving, hopping into this bus, so I was like, yeah,
I gotta go, But it did cross my mind. Uh,
but it was, you know, it was a good time,
just you just talking, a lot of talking, a lot
of you know when when you put a party together
(09:07):
full of television people, podcasters and radio hosts of people
to just talk for a living. Everyone was just trying
to talk over the other people like it just it's
a lot of talkers in one area. I mean, it
is a ton of people to just think everything that's
coming out of their mouth means a lot. And listen,
(09:28):
I'm guilty of this too, So I'm not I'm not
pointing the finger here at anyone that I wouldn't point
back at myself, But it's you just looking around and
everyone is just talking each other's heads off. So it
was really really enjoyable. Obviously a lot of positive feedback.
I'm you know Jamie Horowitz, who is partners with Colin
in the volume, and I think he's the president or
(09:49):
partners with Peyton and the Omaha. I'm like, listen, I
need paid in Uli. We got to make this happen.
Sometime this spring or summer. I will come out to Denver.
I want to play golf film with Peyton at him
on the pod, but I want to hang out Paydon
Manning in a professional setting. Maybe we can have cocktails too, beers.
But I pitched that hard. I pitched that really, really hard.
(10:11):
I also talked met the Covino and Rich who any
of you guys that follow Collins podcast feed they're on there.
And Cavino's story of working at the radio station Howard
Stern worked at in the mid to late nineties and
being around him and then going to serious with them.
I mean, it really is pretty crazy. How powerful, you know.
I mean, the two biggest radio hosts in the history
(10:33):
of America in terms of money were Rush Limbaugh and
Howard Stern. There's really not even a close third. I mean,
at one point in time, he was telling me Howard
Stern was making like a hundred and fifty million dollars
a year, and it's like the early two thousands, obviously
one hundred and fifty million dollars a year and now
is still a shitload of money. It was a lot
more money back then. Like there's not like many things
in the world that wouldn't essentially be free. So, I mean,
(10:53):
it's pretty crazy how much in his heyday he was making,
how powerful his brand was. I mean Series XM didn't
even really operate. They signed him, and I mean it
became a business model. Just one human being built a
business model under him. And then somehow with one of
our the head sales guys for iHeart and some other
radio hosts from Nashville, who I didn't know. I just
(11:15):
met him last night, Like, we're going another party. I'm like, shit,
I'm in, let's go. Where are we going? And all
of a sudden, we take this van to the casino.
I didn't even realize there were casinos in downtown New
Orleans and we are going up escalators, back rooms. All
of a sudden, the door opens, someone gives you a
wrist band. They're like, who you here with? I'm like
(11:36):
these guys and you get the wristband on. You walk
in and it is club, say it is Shannon Sharp's party.
It is everything you'd think it would be. It's kind
of dark. I mean it's got to be at the
top of the casino dark, some windows looking out over
New Orleans just bar packed a ton of dudes, and
(12:01):
I mean a ton of dudes who I grew up watching.
I mean everywhere you look there you bump into Tim Brown,
you bump into you know, Michael Irvin. It was just
you know, kind of warn Moon, just like his crew,
his era of just like all these motherfuckers that played
in the eighties and the nineties. Like I'm not saying
they are and I'm not trying to be that guy,
(12:21):
but like, you just don't get any tougher than these guys.
And the one thing he realized being at the Super
Bowl being around these NFL guys, they are massive. They
are very very big. I mean they're all even just
the receiver, like you run into Tim Brown or Michael Irvin, like,
good luck tackling that guy. When I flew out, Deebo
Samuel was on my flight and we got deplaned from
(12:45):
the flight. It was kind of I mean Honestly, it's
pretty tragic. Someone died. We got on the plane, probably
half the plane was on the plane. Then all of
a sudden, they scream over the emergency, you know, the
like the pilot does, hey, is there a medical professional?
Is there a medical professional? All of a sudden, some
lady runs up and we're just sitting there for like
(13:06):
twenty minutes, and I see Deebo go to the bathroom.
Then he comes back and some light he was like
a couple rows ahead of me, and some ladies ask
him like what was going on. I mean, they don't
know who he is. And he's like, yeah, he's just
laying there. It doesn't look like he's moving. And then
it was like another fifteen minutes. I'm like, I had
to go to the bathroom. When I went to the bathroom,
they were giving him the shock treatment and it was
clearly not good. And you know, they didn't tell me directly,
(13:30):
but I was like, did he path Because they make
us all get off the plane. We had to wait hours,
and she basically alluded to it did not go well.
So that's just it was hard to even be mad.
It's like my day. I mean, I can't even imagine
I was trying to take a flight to New Orleans.
All of a sudden he lost his life. But I
was sitting there on the plane, I'm sitting next to Deebo,
and I've seen him at practice. I have been to
a ton of practice with Deebo Samuel, But when he's
(13:51):
sitting next to him, the size, I mean, the size
and the thickness of all these guys, It's like this
is a grown fucked man's league. It really is. At
the party last night, you know, Colin and a bunch
of his crew from LA flew out on Thursday morning
to New Orleans and Bryce Young was on the flight
(14:11):
and Greg Tooey, who works on Colin Show, was like, Bro,
it was crazy how small he is. I'm like, yeah,
he's probably the smallest player in the history of the league.
Definitely a quarterback. I mean he's like five to nine,
a buck eighty like that. That is not the size
of these guys. I mean they are. I can't tell
you how many. The thing with the NFL, you can
(14:33):
run into a guy if you're not like working in
the league, or he's not on your team, you just
don't know exactly who it is. But you know, like
it's got to be Ad Tackler Reguard, like they're just
I walk around society. Humans don't look like that. I
don't know. I'm not gonna ask the guy who he is,
but he's an NFL player and they just are bigger
(14:54):
than all the other humans. And then we go to
Shay Shay and it is just it's dark. It's just
early late nineties, early two thousand's like a lot of
like jagged edge. It's everything I would imagine. And I'm like,
you know what, I gotta go introduce myself to Shannon.
I work with Shannon right all part of this volume.
(15:14):
I'm like a coworker of Shannon. And again he's he's
sitting next to Steven A and they're just, you know,
some ladies around him, like life's good for those two guys.
I'm like, you know, I got I'm just gonna go
talk to Shanna Sharp And I tried, and now granted
it was loud, probably not the ideal situation. I bet
when I left that interaction, if you told me, did
(15:35):
he thought that I was like the guy that cleans
the toilets at Fox Sports one very possible. I also
tried to do it with Ojo Sinko. Now he was
like passing by also didn't go that well. I would
say the coolest conversation that had there by a mile
was to Kao Spikes and you always got to do
you know when you see these guys, I'm never I
(15:56):
always try to have an inn right, Like I ran
into la Danian Tomlinson today. Well, I'm good buddies with
Lorenz O'Neil so is he's really good friends with him.
I mean it's like one of the Ladaian Thomas's best friends.
So it's like, okay, that's my end. So I walk
up del Tie in the gym and I go, hey,
O'Neil's one of my good buddies, and he smiles and
we start bsing for a minute, and so you gotta
have it in. So I look at Tako and I
(16:18):
was like, I loved you when you played that year
for the forty nine ers, and he lit up. He
was like, that was one of my favorite years of
my career. And then we started bs and I said, hey, man,
I used to work with coach Reid and Spags, well
he played for the Eagles, and you're looking at ta
Ko spikes and you go, I can't even imagine. And
ta Ko looks like he easily could give the Eagles
(16:39):
or Chiefs thirty snaps, especially against the run. Fucking being
a running back and meeting that guy in the hole
good luck. Like the one thing I would say the
smallest awesome player that I ran into by Mott was
Ladaanian Tomlinson. Now he's been retired for a long time
and he just in general, isn't that you know, tall,
So like if you I didn't know exactly who he was,
(17:02):
you wouldn't think like, that's an NFL player. But also
in the gym, I'm pretty sure it was an Kwon
Bolden who was giving a workout. He was there an
hour going like he is training for the NFL Draft.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
It was crazy.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
I was like, if that is Ankwon Bolden, I'm pretty
sure it is. He is getting after it. But uh,
Chao spikes. Man, you talk about a bad ass. There
was like an intensity to him.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
He was cool.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
So that was fun and then I was like, Okay,
I gotta just go home. It's like one o'clock in
the morning. Nothing's really It's like I don't know anyone
at this event. Uh it's just it feels like it's
kind of clearing out too. To kind of make my
way down, I'm like, I'm starving because I didn't need
any dinner. I have like kind of a late lunch.
I just I didn't feel it was so hot and humid.
(17:47):
I just ordered room service. I got a chicken sandwich.
The bread was awful, so I basically just ate the
chicken and you kind of eat some like handheld snacks.
The volume party and all of a sudden, I see
this like little pizza hole in the wall. It's like
one o'clock in the morning. I'm like, I'm gonna get
a slice of pizza, end up getting two. But who's
in there? Lendale White. It's me and Lendale White. So
(18:08):
I'm like, well, I gotta say something to him. So
we just start talking about the Trojans. And one thing
is when you're ever around someone from USC, the best
way to just end your conversation when you're walking away
is just go fight on. And that's been my go
to move with a lot of these Trojan players for
a long time. And he looks at me and he
goes fight on. I walked out with my pieces of pizza,
(18:30):
slammed him and went to bed. This morning, I ran
into Sam Darnold multiple times and we actually ended up
talking golf for a minute about where he plays in
southern California. And then we're talking. He's wearing a master shirt,
so we're talking about golf and how he plays with
Josh Allen. Then all of a sudden, I look up
and coming in the door is Jared Goff. I'm like,
(18:51):
this is and I'm saying at the JW Marriott not
because well, I mean, I get free points. I don't
travel that much, so when I do, I am more
inclined to go to the nicer hotel. And honestly, I
mean the hotel was technically free for me because I
use my points and they screwed me on a room,
so I got the first night free. But the JW was,
(19:11):
I mean just loaded with players, and that's where the
quarterbacks were staying. The thing about Sam Darnold, and this
is why I always say about quarterbacks. And then when
Jared Goff walked in and I'm like five ten. They
are huge. I mean they're not like super thick. I
would guess both Sam may Way two twenty maybe Goff
two fifteen, somewhere in that range. But they are both
(19:32):
pushing six foot five. They are really really tall. And
this is why you think height doesn't mean anything. It's like, yeah,
it kind of matters. It helps to be able to
see Jared Goff can't move, so it helps to be
able to sit in the pocket and release the ball
from the middle of the pocket and be able to
not have to move to see over your guard or tackle.
(19:55):
But one thing that hit me, whether it was whoever,
and again, most of these people I'm just charting kind
conversation with do not know me right. We do not
have a relationship. And I'm not trying to like, hey,
I Colin Cat. I've just tried to talk like a
normal human. And I would say, and I've always thought this,
the NFL is full of really really high level guys.
(20:15):
There's a lot of humility to a lot of these guys,
especially at when they're playing in the league. And I
think a huge part of it is they get yelled
at constantly. They get criticized all the time. Like I
watched Debo when we got deplanes sit there and there
was this dude who was just decked down in Kansas
City gear and he was flying to the to the game,
(20:38):
or not to the I don't think he was actually
going to the game, but he's flying in New Orleans
and he was just shooting the ship with EVO like
Pepper and them with football questions. I think he was
on deebo is on his fantasy team, and deebo couldn't
have been any nicer. It's like, you just see these
guys and I remember back in the day when when
the league was kind of going through it, when some
of their guys were getting in trouble. Even then it
was such a small percentage of players who were kind
(21:01):
of like slaptics. The large percentage of this league is
pretty easy going, nice guys. They're just obviously really good,
you know, absolute monsters on the football field. But I've
always been impressed by that when I worked in the league,
when I did radio, owners around them a lot, and
you go to events like this and you just see
them interact. It's like pretty high level group. The NFL
(21:24):
is in really really good shape with the crew guys
they have, and that was kind of it. Then I
got into a plane and I got the hell out
of there. So it's thirty six three eight hours felt
felt about right, and uh yeah, I think that it's
That place is crazy. Man. If you've never been, got
(21:45):
you gotta probably enjoy. We'll dive into them in a minute.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
One thing I want to hit on is I watch
Miles Garrett with Rich eisen So after his trade request
and then him talking about it. I thought he did
it in a really, really level headed way, and like
I think it's at this time, like if you're Cleveland,
I think he just trade him. I think the time
(23:49):
is now. I think he's handling it in a very
mature way. I think he was smart to handle it
that way. Basically put out like come get me guys.
Make sure you start calling them, because if I do
not put out there, they're not going to put it out.
And you know, Cleveland only has themselves to blame, like
they were out of the Deshaun Watson business. This all
gets back to them for him, and I think anytime,
(24:13):
you know what Miles Garrett is saying without saying, this
franchise is fucked and I want no part of it.
I don't want to be part of this team with
this elephant in the room, with this contract. It's an
anchor on our franchise and there is no way out
no matter what we do. Even if we draft a
(24:33):
quarterback at number two, the likelihood that it's going to
be c. J. Stroud is probably not that high. It's
more likely than it looks like a lot of these quarterbacks,
it's a struggle for them as a rookie. So like
sometimes you see Max Crosby's tunes change a little bit,
like it he goes back and forth because I think
at Max Crosby's core, he wants to win and he
wants it to be in Ink or Vegas. You know,
(24:56):
I think at Miles Garrett's core, he just knows, like this,
this is not a play. And I don't know if
you know, Max is gonna be able to realize that,
especially this year, like more than likely the Raiders aren't
gonna be good this year, and he's gonna continue wasting
years in his prime. Like I wouldn't fault Max either
if he did the same thing, which I don't expect
him to do now that Pete Carroll's there. But like
I never have a problem with a guy requesting a
(25:18):
trade if they've been there for a long time and
they've produced. You know, I have a problem when guys
request the trade. It's like they're in there like second year.
It's like, oh, there's now competition in the wide receiver room.
It's like, suck it up, bro, you're not Jerry Rice.
Calm down, you know, but this guy has given you
eight nine years. He's been an All Pro Pro bowler
for six seven straight. He just was a Defensive Player
(25:40):
of the Year. Like there's nothing else. He plays his
balls off, Like what else do you want out of
the guy? He's given you all he has. And I
think anytime that you kind of put all your chips
in the middle of the table and you you know,
you give it all, whether it's to a personal relationship,
whether it's to a professional relationship, and you get to
a point where, yeah, this isn't gonna work. And I
think most of us, I get to speak for myself
(26:02):
because I maybe we're all different. You know, some people
that are very analytical in numbers driven try to quantify
it more. I'm always and I've always been and still
to this day moving forward like I'm a gut feel
I'm a feel guy. I know, like I just have
to trust when something on or off. And I think
most humans, I do think that crosses you. Now, some
(26:24):
people need to validate it by something tangible on paper
or tangible on an Excel spreadsheet. But it's pretty clear,
like Miles Garrett understands where this franchise is at and
it's not going to change. Uh, Okay, how about my
friends at Louisiana Hot Sauce bring Uh let's talk about
a city that's really hot and a team that's really hot.
(26:44):
Presented by our friends of Louisiana Hot Sauce. Saw them
last night. Bring the food at your big game party
to a whole new level with the original Louisiana Brand
Hot Sauce with bold, authentic flavor that embodies the rich
culinary tradition of Louisiana. The original old Louisiana Brand Hat
Sauce is perfect for those who demand great flavor with
just the right amount of heat. I would say this,
(27:08):
there is no hotter city. Literally, it was seventy five
degrees in humid. How do people and I like the
South get married in Nashville here and about a month.
But when I see seventy five degrees and it's February third,
I don't expect humidity. So when you get out of
the plane, it's like legitimately humid. I mean today walking
(27:29):
around like I was sweating. I was like, God, this
is brutal. But that city is made for the super Bowl.
There are certain places that are made to host the
super Bowl, like in theory, like, oh, Los Angeles not
a great super Bowl city. It's really spread out, doesn't
really work. You go, well, Scottsdale. Scottsdale is pretty cool,
but where everything is in Old Town is forty five
(27:51):
minutes away from where the stadium is, so it's not
like this. I've talked to my buddies with the Eagles.
They are gonna walk from their hotel to the on
Super Bowl Sunday to go to the game. Everything's in
walking distance. It is Taylor made to host these events,
and I think it's perfect that when the Kanseye Chiefs
(28:12):
are trying to become the most historic team in the
history league. No team has ever won three straight Super Bowls.
Are they the best team of all time? We can
debate that till the cows come home. Do they have
the best roster of all time? Obviously not, But I
do believe this. If they win this super Bowl in
New Orleans, no one's ever doing that again, no one's
(28:32):
ever winning three Super Bowls. I don't even think I'd
be shocked non Chiefs if a team ever went to
three straight Super Bowls. Again. It's just very, very difficult
in this salary cap league because typically during that time
you would have to pay some players and then you
have to get rid of your roster dramatically changes. Somehow,
the Chiefs were able to change their roster and trade
(28:54):
Tyreek Hill, who's like one of the great wide receivers
in the history of league, and still be awesome. But
I think it's awesome that they're doing it New Orleans,
that place. If you told me the Super Bowl it
was like the Masters, the Super Bowl was in New
Orleans every single year, I don't think many people would complain.
Or if he just told me it was a two
uh city rotation New Orleans and Miami, back and forth
(29:17):
because I was I was asking someone this, It's like,
wasn't the stadium kind of old and not? Yeah, it's
not great, but who cares. It's not even about the stadium.
That's not super Bowl Week. Super Bowl Week is about
everything else, the festivities, the food, and the one thing
with New Orleans is like it's got something for everybody.
If you want to rage, go to Bourbon Street and
that place is jumping. If you just want to go
(29:37):
to some sweet dinner, you're on the other side of
Canal Street. They are just restaurants everywhere. They're like, this
place is sweet, this place is sweet. I asked a
couple of people to recommend, like where should I go.
They're like, well, this one, this one, this one, this one.
They're all five minutes away. There's a casino, multiple casinos downtown. Like,
this is a heaven. This is awesome. So props a
(29:59):
New wor Orleans. You talk about a city that is
literally and figuratively hot right now. It is just a perfect,
perfect super Bowl city. So stay hot in New Orleans.
That's brought to you by my friends at Louisiana Hot
Sauce because Louisiana. Hot Sauce is hot and is the
perfect pick to match your game day eats. Okay, this
(30:36):
is a uh, this is bittersweet. This is bittersweet. I
got my man Stucky just in the in the trenches
of Lexington. You you Heathen's Buddha man. He gave you
fifteen years, won a title and he did it classy
and he still beat you. I was there.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
But how cool was that? Yeah? It was an electric amature.
It was funny. They talk John cal Party of Kentucky
by the way, Yeah they were, ah, yeah, there's a
lot of booze. My I went with my one.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Of those one of those games where it's just packed
twenty minutes before.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Huh yep, even but both prior to that. But they
always give you bottles of beer at Rup but they
had all the workers pouring beers into cups, which is
very annoying for them. At full Stadium, it was a
cal Party request. He requested no bottles. I guess he
(31:31):
was afraid that people were gonna throw bottles.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Do you think they would have? Honestly, I mean no,
I don't think so. That seems crazy.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
But yeah, I got kind of contentious at the end
with some of the players and the fans. But yeah,
disappointing game for Kentucky fans. But uh yeah it was
not not not the best game for Kentucky. So we'll
see if they can bounce back. But yeah, last until August.
(32:02):
Kind of sad, it really is.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
We're recording this early of the week, so obviously things
can change a little bit. I mean, I think these practices.
I was talking to a buddy on the Chiefs. You know,
once you get to the site, the practices aren't exactly
you know. I think they have intense practices usually last
week where some pads get sweat. This is more you know,
midway walk through. And if you look at these teams, right,
(32:26):
they both I mean they had a lot of veteran players.
The Eagles got some influx of young guys. I mean,
the Chiefs have younger players. But it's like I remember
last year, I was in Vegas and I went out
with one of my buddies on the scouting staff and
he's like, you know, what's crazy, He's like, And that
was before they had won the game, but they were
about to win the game. Like think about Karlovskis and McDuffie.
(32:49):
Who were they trade Tyreek Hill, they use their two
first round picks, they trade up, they get McDuffie. They
actually do a trade with with Belichick to get Carl
All those two guys know. They're two times Super Bowl champs.
They've been in the league just their third year, They've
won two rings, and they are favored to win their
third straight.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
I mean that's I mean, like Joe.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Montana, you know, me and Joe Green, like the history
of the like no one can even relate to the
life they're leading.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
And Patrick Mahomes can't relate to the life they're leading.
They're living good, bro, It's insane.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
They're living good. I've already I saw you during pebble
Bee's tweet out some live wagers, your boy. You know,
I put in like a thousand bucks and I spread
it around and I put a little on Rory before
fourteen to one.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
So I hit that.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
I got a little, I got a little action. I've
already placed Kelsey Jalen same game parlay to both score.
I guess we have to just talk about the big
picture game before we get into all the props. I mean,
I've learned my lesson betting against Kansas City, though, I
do think, you know, if you just look at their
(34:00):
last two games, I think this Eagles team is definitely
better than the last two teams they beat. But I'm
not trying to justify or figure this out. Once your
Ravens two years ago lost that game, it's like, I'm
just not betting against this team.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
I've learned my lesson.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
I just bet on the football gods taking them out
with Josh Allen the Bills that didn't happen. I heard
a stat from cousin sal that, you know, if you
like the favor to win, like they usually cover, I
think like a large percentage of the teams the last
of the last like fifteen years. It was just the Rams.
I think it was a close game, but other than that,
(34:37):
like the favors, favorites just cover. So if you like
Kansas City obviously just just hammered one and a half,
which is what they were just last week, and they
hammered that pretty easily, I guess, not super easily. But
I just think, how do you bet.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
Against the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
I mean, you know, it's just when you look at it,
you go Andy Reid Mahomes for Sirianni and Jalen. Though
it's not that simple because I mean Tyrian's not calling plays,
He's just kind of sitting there with Dom motivating the troops. Right,
it's really Andy versus Fangio. But Patrick and Andy. Now
granted he was on some you know, Denver wasn't exactly
(35:15):
a great team when.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
He was there. They kicked their ass.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
So it's just how do we get around going the
Philadelphia Eagles are going to win this game? Because I
saw this clip. I think I was at the gym
within the last month and they were replaying the Super
Bowl from Arizona. I had forgotten that the Chiefs were
down ten points at halftime to the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
I mean, Hurts played amazing and they still lost, but
they were getting worked. Yep. Well, you say you don't
bet against homes in the playoffs. We've earned your lessons.
He's been down at all three of these Super Bowls
in the second half, all three of all four four. Yeah,
but I'm talking about the ones he's won. Yeah, but yeah,
(35:56):
the one he lost, he was down. Yeah. So twenty nineteen,
they were tied at the half, and then traveling the
second half, they were tied ten ten one thirty one
twenty twenty twenty, they were down twenty one six at
the half, lost thirty one nine twenty twenty two, down
twenty four to fourteen under the first half one thirty
eight thirty five. That was against the Eagles, and then
(36:18):
last year down ten three at the end of the
first half one twenty five to twenty two. Mahmes eight
no straight up and against the spread in the playoffs
as a favorite of under a fueld goal or an underdog.
So yeah, why I bet against them? But I put
I placed a wager on something that I bet last year.
(36:39):
I bet the forty nine Ers first half. I bet
the Eagles first half. It was a plus one and
a half out there, but even plus half plus a
half is fine. I paid a little extra for plus
one and a half. Maybe it's a little lower scoring early,
maybe Jake Elliott misses an extra point.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
But you're not worried about Philly being a pretty terribly
starting team most of the season.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Yeah, yeah, it buries me a little bit. But the
Chiefs have started slow in all of these Super Bowls
as well, which is surprising. But because when I break
these two teams down, if you if you look at
the rosters like position by position. Offensive line like give
(37:19):
me Philadelphia, wide receivers, give me Philadelphia. Running back, give
me Philadelphia. Like tight end. Maybe I'm close to Wash
and Kelsey in the playoffs is different, but it's not
a huge edge. Defensive line, I'd take Philadelphia when Chris
Jones is a monster. Carlats is really good. So maybe
it's close to even linebacker without Dean. Maybe it's close
(37:40):
to even secondary. I'll take Philadelphia. So where's the difference.
It's quarterback and coaching. So again, like if Mahomes has
the ball late with a chance to win the game,
he's probably gonna win. It will hurts against Spags defense
not as confident saying that, who do I trust to
(38:00):
make better adjustments at halftime? The Chiefs. So I took
the plus. I took the points with the Eagles in
the first half. Although I expect the Chiefs to win,
I will look to bet this game live, just like
I did Chiefs Bills every time the Chiefs went up.
I'll bet the Bills live and the Bills would score.
I bet the Chiefs live. Like the most likely outcome
(38:23):
is Chiefs win this game by three, which they seem
to do more often than not in the playoffs, in
super Bowls, in the regular season whenever, they just do
enough to win. And yeah, so I bet the Eagles
first half. We'll we look into bet the Chiefs live.
Don't fault anyone for betting Chiefs full game, for sure.
(38:44):
It's just Mahomes and that staff. They get it done.
Their offense is now healthier. They obviously also hold stuff back.
It's pretty obvious. In the regular season they kind of
just do what they need to do. And then, like
last week, you have the wrinkles of Mahomes running the ball.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
They have.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Now you have two weeks to prepare, you're going to
see some more wrinkles On offense. You're going to see
spags have some some wrinkles and some you know, some
blitzes that just catch the Eagles off guard, hurts holds
the ball forever. How many drives does that kill? The
game plan is going to be focused on, especially in
early down, some taking away Barkley Kenny break runs. Uh,
(39:22):
that'll be interesting to watch. But the really interesting part
about this matchup, you have two teams that really control
the ball. They're used to just dominating time possession, and
now they're playing against each other. Who is going to
win that battle, Who's going to be able to convert
those third downs more often over the course of the game.
It's probably the Chiefs. Can they prevent the Eagles from
getting the fourth and one, from getting all those tush pushes.
(39:45):
So I think it'll be a super competitive game. I
think the Eagles out a better roster, but as we've
seen so many times, in this game, just like that
San Francisco game, without San Francisco is the better roster.
It's Mahomes, Reid and that staff that'll probably be the difference.
But I think it'll be a competitive game. That the
one thing looking can be tired of the Chiefs, and
(40:05):
but the one thing that you can say is they
at least usually give us an, you know, a compelling
game that's close for sure, for sure.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
I mean, to me, they are the one thing the
Patriots brought to the table. And obviously that that thing,
I mean, who knows, I mean this Chiefs early on,
I mean Mahomes is, I don't think thirty yet. Andy
definitely he's slimmed down, he's eating well, so he's a young, vibrant,
sixty six. I mean he still got he ain't going away,
(40:35):
and Veach is young. I mean this kind of nucleus. Now,
maybe Chris Jones and Kelsey change out, as the Patriots
change out some players, but they're not necessarily going away.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
But people got tired of the Patriots.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
But they were always entertaining games, like their games were
part of their legend. Is it was just must watch TV.
You know, it wasn't some blowout. You know that Seattle
Denver game in New York. It's like that sucked. No
one believes that's ever gonna happen with the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Literally doesn't happen.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
This season. Every single game in somewhat looks the same,
and they end up winning what seventeen of the nineteen
of the games, and one of them they punted. One
of them they didn't care.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
Yeah, and they've won an NFL record number of one
possession games in a row. And a lot of that
is relible kicker, good coaching, Hall of Fame quarterback who's
gonna win you the game late and they just do
enough to win. And then you got a defensive coordinator's
gonna call up timely blitzes like just that are against
with the other off with their tendency breakers. We saw
(41:35):
that against the Bills on that key fourth down. Bills
were not expecting them to blitz as they did and
it ended up winning them the game. So they just
have at the end of the game. They just have
so many championship caliber characteristics, from the coaching, to the
special teams to most importantly the quarterback. Especially if you
give Mahomes four downs and he needs it to go
(41:57):
down the field, it's probably gonna get it done. So yeah,
it's uh. I think the Eagles have a better overall team,
but against the Chiefs and all their championship DNA, a
lot of times that doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
Well, if you go back two years ago, and I remember,
my buddies with the Eagles are like, listen, we really
like Gannon. We think he's gonna be a better head
coach than he was a coordinator. Like he's just good
with the team, good motivating, but he's not. No one's
getting him confused with Steve Spagnola or whatever. Sure, so
they've upgraded a defensive coordinator since two years ago. That
(42:32):
defense was good, right, didn't they lead the league in sacks?
I mean they had like four double digit guys interior
annexteriors like Fletcher hard Grave and a couple of the
edge rushers. But this defensive line right now is played
pretty well, and you'd go they upgraded at coordinator and
Slay was a little younger obviously a couple of years ago,
Brad Barry was just okay. So they're probably better at corner,
(42:54):
are very similar at safety. They literally brought the dude
back CJ playing that game, took a year off, came back.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
But what do you make of if you go, okay that?
Speaker 1 (43:03):
Because that Eagles defense was pretty top notch, very similar
this year, could you even argue an upgrade? But the coordinator,
who is I think one of the better ones of
a generation. But the matchup with Andy and Mahomes being
comfortable with you know, vick A Belichick, It doesn't look
different every week, like you kind of know what you're getting.
And when he's got really good players, and I saw
(43:25):
it first hand with the Niners, he will beat the
shit out of you. And I remember going to a
game when he played the Chiefs. When Andy first got there,
the Chiefs were pretty good. He turned it around quick
because they were really good on defense. But Alex was
kind of their limitation. I remember they beat him in
a in just a bloodbath game between the two teams,
like Tom baw Lee and Justin Houston. It was like, God,
this things someone's gonna get like die on the field here.
(43:46):
But once he got Mahomes and playing those Denver teams.
But it's also like those Denver teams were terrible. It
wasn't all fixed fault, right, So what do you what
do you make of that?
Speaker 2 (43:56):
Yeah, I mean, i I'm fascinating to watch. I mean
the I the Eagles defense, they addressed. You got to
give how He roydsmen a lot of cut They addressed
their biggest needs on that side of the ball, number
one coordinator upgrade, but their corners were lacking, and they
brought in the Jeene and Mitchell that both hit. I mean,
they're playing outstanding. And then linebacker was a huge position
(44:19):
of need and they brought in Zach Baum and he
played in an all pro level. And you know you
had na Kobe Dean who unfortunately got hurt. But they
really addressed their biggest needs and it's translated on the field.
They've bargably been the best defense in the NFL. This year.
I'm always so fascinated to watch. You have two weeks
prepare you know there are there is some familiarity there.
You know, the Chiefs are going to have some wrinkles
(44:42):
on both sides of the ball. What do the Eagles
do from because you have to change what you already
have on film. You have to come with some new
wrinkles against Mahomes. So that's what I'm most fascinated to watch.
I do think that their their corners can match up
on the outside with the Chiefs wide receivers, and I
anticipate the Cheese will try to attack over in the
(45:02):
middle of the field and the Chiefs running. I mean
the Eagles Rundy has been really good to the Chiefs
rushing attack has not been as efficient since they kicked
out Tony to left tackle, which read said they're gonna
still do. I think Malones is just more comfortable when
he's a left tackle from a protection standpoint, but it's
definitely weakened their run blocking With Caliendo left guard, you
(45:23):
got Towny all pro left guard, and you know, you
get they have the best guard center guard combo in
the league. You think, yeah, he was there, and then
you know do your tackles. You had a big left
tackle struggled in pass protection, which could ruin a game,
which is probably why they're more comfortable with Toney out there.
But you have a big tackle and then Tony at
(45:44):
left guard that great and Tior like your running game
was much better. So this will probably be a just
higher volume Mahomes passing, which we see in the playoffs
more often than not. But what wrinkles does Fangio have
is and to be across the board, like we can
look at this matchup and what these teams have done
(46:05):
all the year, But it's the Super Bowls one game.
There's two weeks to repair. There's gonna be some schematic
surprises and uh that could end up deciding the game.
Speaker 1 (46:28):
Okay, let's let's dive into some some props. You know,
I think once they made the Super Bowl there was
already a lot of buzz out there. Maybe if they
had missed Kelsey goes Hey, I so got he had
just got a contract extension the previous year. Once they
make it, win or lose, Like, he's no dummy. He
understands how difficult. I mean, he was in the league
a long time before they started rattling off the Super Bowls.
(46:51):
If he was on the fence, I think there's a
pretty good chance that he's done. Yep, and you know
him and him and Andy have a pretty special relationship,
like Andy's kind of it's gonna be like clutch Lebron Lakers,
like they're all kind of in the loop here. I
think Andy is gonna get this guy touchdown or at
least try and have some wrinkles to have this guy
score in the Super Bowl so you can get Kelsey,
(47:14):
who is I don't know on the short list of
great playoff performers in the history of the league at
plus one thirty five on DraftKings. To score a touchdown
like that was that was just an auto hammer to me.
Speaker 2 (47:28):
Donate that. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (47:29):
I mean he's gonna be heavily involved by both tight ends.
I know you like God hear too, but I think
the tight ends big this week. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
I anticipate the Chiefs will try to attack over the
middle of field. No, Dean, that is the weakness. I
think the Eagles have the advantage of corner the Rundy's good.
Chiefs aren't running it as well. I also like Worthy
anytime touchdown he actually is just below Kelsey in targets
per route running the red zone this year, and he
leads the team in red zone reception touchdowns. He also
gets the ball other ways. They'll hand it to him
(47:58):
in the red zone. So one sixty five you can
find on him. I think that should be like closer
to plus one forty. But yeah, Kelt is going to
be heavily involved here, and I agree if he wins this,
I could see him riding off into the sunset. I mean,
you just three peeted. What else is there to do
going out on top?
Speaker 1 (48:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (48:17):
I like Goddard a lot. I mean the Chiefs can't
They really struggle to defend tight ends. They give up
the most yards per route run against opposing tight ends
of any team in the NFL. I think that is
six catches. There's really good guys have They blitz a lot.
They're really good on the outside against receivers. So where
(48:41):
else are you throwing the ball? And their linebackers and
safeties aren't elite and coverage, so there's opportunity there. And Goddard,
I mean, past seven games since he came back, he's
looks fully healthy, he looks great, He's averaged about four
and a half catches on five and a half targets
for about fifty two yards per game. But in the playoffs,
this is the guy always shows up. Last week, I
(49:03):
think he had seven catches on eight targets for eighty
five yards. He's played eight playoff games since becoming basically
a full time starter. Six out of the eight he's
at least five catches. Six out of the eighties had
at least fifty yards. He's averaged six catches on about
eight targets for sixty four yards. Look at the medians,
it's like five and a half catches on six and
(49:24):
a half targets for sixty yards. Chiefs also run a
lot of man got It Elite versus man almost four
yards per route run this year, which is number one
amongst all tight ends against man coverage. And even if
you look at the games where there's only six or
seven of them, when got It, Aj Brown and Demante
Smith all played together with Ertz, got It was still
(49:47):
number two in target share. Also high target share against
the Blitz. I think they got to get the ball
quick here. And look, the Eagles are used to playing
from ahead. They played a soft schedule, playing with the
lead up big and then you just run the ball
and run out the clock. Right, Well, they're underdogs in
this game. You're more likely than most of your games
(50:09):
you play this year to be in a more past
heavy game script. So I think that God should get
a bunch of looks. Here. A scary one I like
is Mahomes's longest rush under thirteen and a half. I'd look,
if there's ever a third and thirteen, I'm gonna be
shitting my pants because he always just finds a way
to run for like one more yard. It seems like
(50:30):
he just knows the perfect speed to be at whether
it's a defensive lineman, a linebacker, a corner, he's always
one step ahead and he'll get the first down by
a yard. But I think this is too why they
opened at like ten and a half, And it's a
popular bet, so a lot of times these popular overs
get inflated. I don't know, I'm trying to figure out
this is gonna go a fourteen and a half or not.
(50:51):
But if you want to bet unders, you want to
bet them later in the week. You know, if they
tend to peak around Thursday, Friday, Saturday, quarterback drops on Saturdays.
All the public money can have can have a say
on this. And if you want to bet overs on
popular players, you want to bet them earlier on but Mahomes.
(51:11):
He does run more in the playoffs. But if you
look over the course of his entire career, he's had
five hundred and forty rush attempts, fifty four of them
have gone for more than thirteen and a half yards.
It's about ten percent. In the playoffs, he runs a
little more. He runs about five and a half yard
(51:32):
five and a half carries per game in the playoffs,
compared to about four in the regular season. He's had
one hundred and eight playoff rush attempts, ten of them
have gone over thirteen half, so that it's only about
nine percent. All of his games combined, he's played one
hundred and thirty two games. Only forty six of those
games is he had a rush of over thirteen and
a half yards. It's about thirty five percent of his
(51:54):
games only gone over at nine out of twenty times
in the playoffs this year, five out of eighteen games
and only about one out of every fifteen carries has
gone for over thirteen and a half yards. His rushing
props are about five and a half carries. I think
he would need like eight ish carries on average to
get over this because Number one, some other reasons to
(52:17):
like this. The Eagles they don't give up any exposive place.
They keep everything in front of them. It's not a
man heavy defense. This is going to blitz a lot.
So the chances of my homes being able to break
one are lower than you know they would be in
some other matchups. And if you look this year, the
Eagles allowed eighty four quarterback rushing attempts, only four went
(52:40):
for over thirteen and a half yards. That's less than
five percent of the quarterback carrieres. And they faced Jane
Daniels three times and Lamar Jackson once, And those those
quarterbacks Lamar and Daniels who were the best runners in
the NFL, they have thirty carries. Only three of them
(53:01):
went for over thirteen a half yards, so one out
of every ten. So if you're expecting moms to get
like sixi ish carries here, I think there's value on
this under the other thing to keep in mind is
the Eagles are a ball control offense like the Chiefs.
The Chiefs are used to having the ball for most
of the game. Well, now you're playing another team that
(53:21):
could have eight to nine minute drives, which just takes
away some of the opportunities that Mahomes might have to
get rushing attempts. So I think that's I think over
thirteen and a half is a bit too high. Opened
it at like ten and a half, which I think
is probably closer to where this should be priced. It's scary,
he could easily get it, but I think it's too high.
Speaker 1 (53:41):
What about the other quarterback on the ground, because I
just looked in twenty two when they lost Super Bowl,
they only played three games, right because they were the
one seed, so they had they played two games and
one was against the Niners when Perty got injured. He
had five touchdowns during that run, and this year he's
got he just had three. But he had the long
(54:02):
run against the Rams or was that the Packers? Was
the Packers to open up the game? Yeah, one of
those two teams, those Packers.
Speaker 2 (54:09):
Yeah, and uh, you can get him just anytime touchdown
at my minus one ten. To me, it feels I
have a hard time seeing and for whatever reason, and
I don't know if the stats don't back this up.
But I feel like every single game they get a
situation like the one or two yard line and that's
clearly just automatic. So I it's it's why I parlayed
(54:32):
the Kelsey Jalen anytime parlay, but I have a hard
time seeing Jalen Hurts not score. I feel it's more
likely the Jalen score a touchdown than Saku one Barcley
scores touchdown. Am I nuts?
Speaker 1 (54:43):
No?
Speaker 2 (54:43):
I mean, plus, even if they're at like the two
or three, there's they can touch push twice. They just
touch push twice and do it. So started on the
first down, yep. Yeah, so yeah, don't hate that at all.
I mean, they get anywhere near the goal line, Hurts
is gonna score. So yeah, I don't hate that. It's
it's what.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
About him as a runner, because the one thing, you know,
we were like Lamar a year ago not running on them.
Partly it was the coordinator as well.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
Josh has had a lot of success.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Running on them. Jalen is not exactly apples to apples,
So those two guys running, but he is a really
good runner. You know, do you think that you know
his over under rushing guards if can get him fifty
sixty yards or is that you know that's not really
how they want to play.
Speaker 2 (55:30):
Yeah, I don't know how they're going to play, like
the read option. Are they going to just try to
take away Barkley and then in that case that could
open up some opportunities for hurts. But I also don't
know if he's fully healthy. Like last week, you could
tell running straight ahead he's fine, but lateral movement he
might still be maybe a little limited, maybe a little hesitant.
(55:54):
Maybe that just maybe takes away some designed runs. Maybe
it just does and lead to as many big runs.
So the health uncertainty, like he's clearly helping up a
player look fine, but from a running perspective, it might
impact him a bits of that uncertain but that he's
got two weeks off, so I had too much uncertainty
for me to get involved there. I assume that the
(56:15):
Chiefs are going to focus on taking away Barkley on
early downs and teams that have done at the playoffs
they've bottled him up for long stretches. It's been the
long runs that have just killed of the other teams.
Like he's just from an efficiency standpoint, and look, the
Eagles had not faced a hard schedule of opposing defenses
(56:37):
this year and even in the playoffs like the Rams,
the Packers, the Commanders, these aren't great defenses. Can can
What impact can Barkley have? Assuming the Chiefs are gonna
you know, load the box and try to take him
away on early downs and then you're in laid down
situations where spagskiming the pressure, hurts, tends to hold the
(56:58):
ball too long. That's another reason why I do like God,
he too is blitz. You gotta get rid of the
ball quick here. Yeah, but yeah, how I think I
tend to think Barclay's numbers are all inflated, like I
would lead under on a lot of his numbers, because
one I think the Chiefs are going to focus on him.
This still a pretty good defense. I do think their
(57:18):
defense is a bit overrated overall people view it. They
face a lot of teams of injuries this year, and
if you look at what the Bills did, the Texans
even had success running on them.
Speaker 1 (57:28):
But they're a good tackling team. You know that that
first run for Barkley where I think chin it was like,
what is going on here?
Speaker 2 (57:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (57:36):
That won't have to I would say all eleven guys,
specifically the DB's McDuffie read, I mean they tackle well,
so he's not just going to have some seven yard
run turned into forty because two guys fucking chicken wing it,
you know.
Speaker 2 (57:50):
Yep. So yeah, I don't mind his under rushing yards.
The Chiefs are going to be focused on it. I
don't think they're going to give up these metal long runs.
Like you said, great tackling team. And then again, just
the point I just made is the Eagles are used
to playing from ahead all year, right, they had an
easy schedule. They're used to playing from ahead, and then
(58:11):
Barkley just gets a ton of carries against weak defenses. Well,
now as an underdog and against the Chiefs, you're more
likely to be playing for behim or you're gonna have
to throw. You're playing a defense that's focused on and
like I just said, the Eagles are now playing their
counterpart in time of possession. Right, They're not used to
(58:31):
playing the team like the Chiefs that will Just the
Chiefs have no explosiveness on their offense. Right, they might
have an explosive player too, but one of the least
explosive offenses in the NFL, and The Eagles don't give
up any explosive place. That is one of their strengths.
They keep everything in front of them. They're the number
one's explosive pasty in the NFL. So what does that mean?
(58:52):
That means it's Mahomes doing what they've done all year.
It's methodically moving the ball down the field. What is
does that mean? The Eagles and Barkley are on the
sidelines for long stretches so and everyone wants to bet
the Barkley over. So I think the Barkley numbers are
all inflated. It's it's a it's tough to figure out
(59:13):
which one to go with because if you go under
rush attempts, I think yards is just the best way
to go, because you go I think rush attempts is
too high. Same with longest rush. But if he breaks,
if he breaks a long run, then you know, obviously
he goes over longest rush, and then that'll help under
(59:35):
rushing attempts because then it's just taking away a huge
part of the field where we would add carries. But
if he doesn't go over as long as rush, that
means he might get more carries. So yeah, I think
the best way to go is just under rushing yards
total on Barkley. I think that number is like ten
fifteen yards too high, and if he breaks seventy yard
(59:56):
run you tip your cap. But yeah, the Chiefs could
have the all a ton here. Eagles might have to
pass more than they have all year. I mean, this
is a team that's just been and their elite is
as a front runner. But they're not playing the Chiefs
every week. So I don't mind the Barkley unders, as
scary as they are and sound after what he's done
this year.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
You know, one if you go to the Texans game
where they got two high end rushers, they only sacked
him three times. But I thought early in that game
they were just cosm havoc.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
The one thing with the Eagles is their defensive line.
I mean has really come on in the second half
of the season, in the playoffs. I mean Carter, I
mean you could make the argument, you know, just talent
Wisese like a top ten player non quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
Nolan Smith a good player.
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
Nolan Smith, Yeah, I mean Williams. Milton Williams is a
free agent.
Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
You got they just got a lot of people, right,
and that's to me, one thing that Fangio like his
baby has always been dominating a lot, like with his
good defenses, Like his front just plays.
Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
To another level, especially at big games. So if the
Chiefs are gonna lose, you go, well, what's the formula
it would be? When what was their formula to lose.
Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
The last Super Bowl?
Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
Their offensive line kind of got manhandled. Now you know
both their tackles right had torn achilles or I forget.
Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
There are a bunch of backup offense. They were fucked.
Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
Yeah, this isn't quite that situation, but clearly, I mean
if Andy Reid was true here, I mean be like, yeah,
our offensive line used to be a lot better moving forward.
That's gonna be a point emphasis for them this offseason,
I'm sure. So you go, if they're gonna lose, like
you can get a lot of plus numbers, Jalen Carter
to get a sack plus one thirty one, just what
to get a sack plus one fifty, Nolan Smith to
get a sack plus one twelve, Like they're gonna get
(01:01:41):
a couple of sack They're gonna get them. Because the
one thing is Mahomes likes to make plays. He likes
to hold the ball a little bit. He's usually unlike
some of these other guys, he pulls it off sometimes
Jalen like just stops and takes sack like Mahomes kind.
Speaker 2 (01:01:52):
Of wheasels away.
Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
But these guys are such freaks. It's just sometimes it's hard.
And Jalen to me, one of the plays, especially like
you said, moving, you know, doing out to left tackle,
like he's just gonna be over that guard sometimes and
it's not like Joe can help him out because he's
got to worry about whoever's over him. Yeah, and he
just one of those plays the guy's just gonna fucking
whiff on him, and the six to five, three and
(01:02:14):
twenty pounder Patrick just.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Not gonna be able to run away.
Speaker 1 (01:02:18):
I think him getting a sack feels like a lock
in this game.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
Yeah, he's gonna have favorable matchups and Mahomes' sack numbers,
pressure to sack rich has gone up this year, and
the Eagles can cover on the back end. I think
he's he's I think destined to make a big play here.
I also Chris Jones feels like he's probably gonna get
(01:02:43):
a sack too. Yeah, I agree, Like Hurtz holds the
ball forever. I know there's gonna be a lot of
attention on him, but we don't even know how healthy
the interior of the Eagles offensive line is. I assume
everyone's gonna play, but dealing with some injuries, so maybe
that shows up as way well. But Hurts is I mean,
you look, no one has held the ball longer. Actually,
(01:03:05):
Deshaun Watson that was it. But as far as quarterbacks
who ended the year as a starter, Hurts holds the
ball a ton and going up up against bags and
with this game script, they might be behind, might have
to throw more.
Speaker 1 (01:03:20):
Feels like Chris Jones re injured potential too, you know,
with the back and a knee like one of them
whoever is out there. All of a sudden, Jurgens backs
tighten it up, Dickerson's knees. You know, Okay, I'm feeling
good pregame. Then all of a sudden, Chris Jones hits him.
He's like, oh shit, I can't walk. That's got one
of those two guys as I've written all over him,
doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
Yep? Yeah, And that's like you have you have really
good tackles, you can maybe neutralize the edge rush for
Kansas City. But with the blitzes and pressures that Spags
is going to draw up, I can see Jones getting
home on Hurts, if not once, but maybe it maybe
even twice.
Speaker 1 (01:04:01):
One of my flyers and for me on this is
you know, forever, it's only improved over the years. Is
Andy Alfa by I mean, he's truly one of the
great offensive minds in the history of the game. Chiefs
first drive, touchdown plus one ninety five. I mean, this
is it's been so long and he's become a legend since,
(01:04:22):
but this is still the team that fired him, you know.
I mean, listen, we're all human beings. I know he's
friends with Howie, he's friends with Jeffrey Lury, and you know,
the Eagles put him on the map and everything.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
They still fired him.
Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
So I just think that he's always motivated with the
extra time. It's been a point of difference for him
over his career.
Speaker 2 (01:04:44):
This is the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
He's a bright lights guy, Kelsey going out, He's got
my homes. I just think Chiefs first drive. You know,
who knows, maybe some trick plays all of a sudden,
it's like, oh yeah, Andy told us he stole this
one from the nineteen fifty seven Navy game. You know
he not just holding that till the third You never know,
it could be like the second play of the game.
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
I just this guy's he's he's ring. You know this
isn't Kellen Moore like f nas Sirianni and Howie, like,
are we cool if we do this?
Speaker 1 (01:05:14):
Like anything he wants to do he could do.
Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
And he's he's got three guys on his staff looking
over tape for the last hundred years. You know, they
like to They had practice this morning. I'm sure they
have some crazy play.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Just to keep the guys fresh. It's like a classic
Andy move. I just that first drive at almost two
to one to score a touchdown feels pretty tasty. And
what are the Chiefs a bright light scene? What they
do against your squad last year? Against the Bills this.
Speaker 2 (01:05:43):
Year, it's like they fucking just if they do come ready,
they might slow down after the first drive because they're
so hyped up for it, and then all of a sudden,
it's like ten to seven going into halftime. But I
could see that.
Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
First drive and he have some tricks up his sleeve.
Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Yeah, I don't hate your reasoning at all. I will
be rooting against it because I had the Eagles first
half and I want to bet the Chiefs live for
my long shot that I'll give out.
Speaker 1 (01:06:11):
By the way, you hit one of the great I
mean last year, fourteen to one on overtime.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Yeah, and almost one hundred to one double overtime. It
was truly special that one play away. I watched the
play clock. If there was it was one second away
from them being able to run it down to go
to second overtime.
Speaker 1 (01:06:29):
Homes through the touchdown. There was only one second left
in the first.
Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
Quarter, no, in the first overtime, so they I had
one hundred to one to go double overtime, and there
was under a minute to go, and there was like
forty two second. There was like fifty four seconds.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
Oh gotcha, guys.
Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
They completed a pass and there was forty one seconds
left when they spotted the ball. So the play clock
was a forty which means they had to run another play.
So if it was the other second, there's a chance
that they would have said, let's talk about this play
breath yeah, and that like uh so.
Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
He just snapped, he just snapped the balls like twenty
or third.
Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
Yeah, during twenty seconds, but there was a chance that
maybe they just ran it down and like, let's talk
about the play. I was watching the clock so intently
and it went forty one, and I was like, no.
Speaker 1 (01:07:21):
That'd have been the greatest hit of your life. One
hundred to one.
Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
It doesn't get much better than that. Yeah, I had
one hundred and twenty to one tennis a tennis feature
Maren Chilic at the US Open, like uh, twelve years
ago or something, but yeah, that would have been up there. Three.
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
For MVP, it's hard. I mean it's a quarterback award obviously,
like Barkley as a better chance than a running back
usually would because of how important is and what kind
of season he's had. I think Kelsey obviously because just
the narrative and he hasn't won it and he could
have a big day.
Speaker 1 (01:07:59):
But if you look back, I think like nine out
of fifty seven defensive players have won the MVP And
the last one was did Donald win the MVP when
the Rams won it? The or Stafford?
Speaker 2 (01:08:14):
No, that was Cup? Oh yeah, the last the last
defender to win it might have been let's see, since
two thousand, the defenders to win it were well, Malcolm Brown,
Dexter Jackson won.
Speaker 1 (01:08:34):
It for the Box.
Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
Von Miller I think was the last one in twenty sixteen.
I was, yeah, Malcolm Smith, Von Miller, Dexter Jackson, Ray
Lewis too. I think those are the defenders that have
won it. So it hasn't happened out well yeah, so
maybe there's a defensive mind that could win it. But
if you look, since von Miller won it, get Brady Fowles, Mahomes, Mahomes, Mahomes.
(01:09:05):
The only other non quarterbacks to win are receivers Edelman
and Cup. So you have to have just a high
volume game. You need to score touchdowns. A'll frod Xavier
Worthy thirty to one, Like, is there a way that
a game where he has like eight or nine catches
(01:09:28):
a touchdown or two and if he has like a
big rush with a rushing touchdown, like I could see
Worthy having an Edelman or Cup type of game and
that does it still probably go to Mahomes probably, But
if that's why you can get thirty thirty five to one.
So that's my long shot that I'll throw out for
(01:09:48):
this year. Xavior Worthy MVP.
Speaker 1 (01:09:51):
What would it take for a defensive player to get it,
you think multiple sacks and a force fumble, right.
Speaker 2 (01:09:57):
Probably score a and.
Speaker 1 (01:10:02):
You need it to be like a lower scoring game,
like exactly Bond with like eleven tackles and a pick
six get it.
Speaker 2 (01:10:12):
Yeah, but it's hard to It's hard for me to
imagine the Chiefs just like not scoring enough. So like
that would mean the Eagles have to score more and
who's getting it. But you would need just like a
weird distribution. It's it would be tough. You would you
(01:10:33):
would need like a defender to score have a huge
day and it being be a low scoring game. So yeah,
it's it's tough for me to see a defensive player
winning it in this particular game. But you never know.
Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
I saw, I saw, I think I had an NFL
network on and they were showing some highlights of the
Bucks Raiders. Maybe it was a YouTube I forget, but
got that game was terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
That was awful.
Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
Rich was just throwing pick after pick after pick after pick.
I mean it was one point in time, it was
like forty eight to twenty. I mean, it was it
was rough.
Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
That was amazing that a defensive player won it in
a game. That was forty eight to twenty one final
and a defensive player won it. That's an anomaly. I mean,
like because if you look what happened, Brad Johnson was
eighteen to thirty four, two hundred yards, two touchdowns and interception,
Like you're not going to give it to him. Pittman
(01:11:32):
ran the ball thirty times for one hundred and twenty yards,
no touchdowns, so you're not going to give it to him.
Like Keenan McCardell there there, He scored two touchdowns for
the Bucks, but he had two catches for thirteen yards.
Their other leading receiver was Joe Jarvisis. He had four catches,
seventy yards, no touchdowns. It's like, who are you giving
(01:11:53):
it to? Right? Like they scored forty eight points, so
it just all worked out that way. Like that's how
you need a defensive either a really low scoring game
or it's just like no one stuck out offensively for you.
Speaker 1 (01:12:07):
And I feel like teams like that won't even exist anymore.
Like it was back to back like the Ravens Bucks
where its is like Dilferd, Brad Johnson, random offensive guys,
but just an all time defense. Like I just don't
think we're getting those that used to happen a lot.
Speaker 2 (01:12:20):
Yeah, it's a different, different game now, which is why
since twenty sixteen we've only seen quarterbacks and wide receivers
win it. So and that when von Miller won it,
that was the Broncos won twenty four to.
Speaker 1 (01:12:44):
Ten, and Peyton couldn't throw after the first droved Manna.
Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
It was thirteen of twenty three for one hundred and
forty yards, no touchdowns in the interception. The final score
was twenty four to ten. You know, CJ. Anderson had
twenty three catches for ninety yards and a touchdown, Like,
is that MVP worthy really? And then their leading receiver,
Manuel Sanders had six catches ready for your yards. Maybe
if you got a touchdown, he could have won it.
But that's how a defender won it. And Ivan von
(01:13:17):
Noller two and a half sacks, six total, six total tackles,
twenty four to ten, no offensive standouts, he's a household name.
That's how a defender went won it. But hard to
see in this game.
Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
But that's probably the last great defense. And I saw
that team play live a bunch. I mean, they were
just they had four high end d linemen all their
linebackers were good and their dbs were sweet. Yeah, and
even back then, like in fifteen, sixteen seventeen, you could
still kind of hit you know, like a keep to
Lee will.
Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
Hit you up. TJ.
Speaker 1 (01:13:48):
Ward would fucking rock your socks off. You know, you
can't really play like that. So it's like they could
cover and if you went across the middle, you get decapitated.
Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
It's like the you can still build a good.
Speaker 1 (01:13:59):
Defense of wine. It's just harder to build the secondaries,
which the Ravens, you know, the Bucks definitely had where
you would just get you might go to, you know,
the hospital, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
So it's like it so much harder. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:14:14):
Yeah, so, uh well it's sad, sucky. We just got
one more football game and you got college basketball. So
and any plugs for a team that you like that's
flying a little under the radar. I saw Gonzaga. They
just lose to Saint Mary's.
Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
Yeah, they keep fairly oh in seven games decided by
six points or less this year. They cannot close out
a game. It's a major problem for them. I think
Texas Tech is legit. We told them just win at Houston.
If you want to take a flyer and then like
they can give them a eight to one to make
the final four if you want to get crazy to
win the national title. I also like Illinois, Texas A
(01:14:50):
and m is uh some flyers to make the final four.
Not super long shots, but not at the top of
the board. So yeah, those are some of the teams.
I throw up big bets on campus, where we have
three podcasts a week doing college basketball stuff, Action overcap,
actionover dot com. I've bright up stuff every weekend, and uh,
(01:15:14):
you follow me for commentary and all that jazz for
college basketball through the tournament. That's Stucky two on X
but uh, it was a pleasure do it going through
another season with your brother and can't wait till hopefully
do it again next year, starting in August.
Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
It can't come soon enough. I'm already ready start the
county wrong.
Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
I like free agency in the draft, but I much
rather have games on Saturday and Sunday. Absolutely, Okay, Stuck,
you take it easy, bro, I'll talk to you soon.
Cheers both
Speaker 1 (01:15:47):
The volume
