Speaker 3 (00:23):
This week on The Big League Podcast, to Madam, Martin
reflects on Tanner Boyd's debut half back performance. Former Keeewi's
fullback Richie Barnett reacts to yet another injury for Rock
o'berry and gives verdict on whether the Warriors should re
sign Martin. Michael Burgess and I will detail everything from
the Tigers when plus the Warriors can't possibly lose to

(00:46):
the night, can they. My name is Nathan Limb. Let's
go b LB. No Luke Metcalf, no chance Nickel Cookstar,
no bloody Warriors. The Warriors prove once again their depth
is their anchor, Tanner Boyd producing a solid all round
debut and half back. Everyone relaxed. He will steer the

(01:08):
side competently towards the playoffs. It's been a next man
up mentality all year, but with another shoulder injury to
Rock Oberry, do they have any men left? Michael Burgess,
Senior in New Zealand Herald Right, you were there for
the doublehead at Mount smart. What did you like most
about that performance? The number seven Tanner Lloyd? Yeah, Tanaboyd,

(01:31):
I think he was a standout. I mean that's that's
what you're focused on going into the game. What's it
going to look like, how's he going to play? How's
he going to fit? And he ticked all the boxes,
didn't he? I guess the only thing I'd say is
it was only the Tigers. With all due respect, the
Tigers are a limited team and they didn't play that well.

(01:51):
You know, they made so many eras Benji Marshall was
going nuts on the sideline.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
So it's only the Tigers. They'll be much tougher tests.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
But as a first bow it's bloody impressive, just the
way he could come in the organization. We're going to
talk about him more in depth, but the organization, the
kicking game, the general. Now, I'll tell you one thing
straight away, it's going to be a lot easier to
replace Luke metcalf then it will be and has been,
to replace Mitch Bunnette. Mitch Barnett is a week by

(02:21):
week shit. How are we going to get the Fords
to do the job without Bunnette? But Metcalfe or Missus
X Factor the Missus Pace. But Boyd will be as
you just said, will step in really nicely. You just
mentioned Benji Marshall going nuts or the sideline. Was there
a moment where he reacted to the captain's challenge on
a strip?

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Can you talk through that?

Speaker 4 (02:41):
That was brilliant?

Speaker 5 (02:41):
Yeah, it was very good. I mean it's nice to
see I love coaches on the sideline. I think Ricky
Stewart started. It was his webs to do it. But yeah,
he's down on the sideline and it reacts to a
call on a strip that I thought it was a
fair call.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
They went to the bunk.

Speaker 5 (02:55):
You could see the hand coming in trying to strip
it out from the Warriors player. So the Tigers lose
the challenge and then Benji. You know, it was a
beautiful work by the director at the ground cut to
Benji just as they made the decision and he had
a couple of very choice f words straight away. Couldn't

(03:17):
believe you know. And so but his face is up
on both big screens at GO Media Stadium, and so
the crowd all saw it as well, and the crowd
was sort of laughing or booing. It was just one
of those fantastic moments that the crowd really enjoyed. And
then Benji saw that he had been seen and had
to chuckle himself. So it was it was a good theater.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Now we're going to hear from TMDI and Marten and
then Richie Barnett shortly. But first here are the highlights
Warriors thirty four, Tigers fourteen.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
So we're underway here in this round nineteen class that
to be joining us.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
What are you watching?

Speaker 6 (03:50):
Here's louy my sense and they're going to do exactly that.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
To around skilledness in.

Speaker 6 (03:57):
The score, dream stuff for the visitors. Traced to beat
a boy, nice play.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Of time to king Berry. How he Josherry.

Speaker 7 (04:07):

Speaker 4 (04:10):

Speaker 3 (04:12):

Speaker 6 (04:12):
That was very pretty fucking you nice doing to He's.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
Here is he Foster though?

Speaker 6 (04:20):
That's the question he answers.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Jared Sutton's here's boy off the scrum.

Speaker 6 (04:25):
No Siner there there's Martin hand goodness me done, welcome
betch boy what o the four hands? There was a
gym finished off fight rts Dey.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Brilliant.

Speaker 6 (04:42):
Well that's an easy try for Adom Dewey too easy.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
We haven't seen the Warriors.

Speaker 6 (04:46):
Defense broke him down like that too many times this season. Salasima, Well,
is that a try thickets come forward off the Warriors?

Speaker 4 (04:56):
Plimpluss the funk.

Speaker 6 (04:57):
Is gonna de signs cope of si for Harris ta.

Speaker 3 (05:00):

Sport The Big League Podcast.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Michael ber just had a quick chat to to my
dear Martin after the game and the sheds. Let's take
a listen to.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Matter what what did you think? It's tonight?

Speaker 8 (05:24):
Good and good in patches. I think we defended well areas.
I think Tannet kicked well and and we defended well
every good field mission a lot of the time. But
there's a lot lot more to improve. But it's a
step in the right direction in it because.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
It's been a funny period with two buyers, two tough losses,
so I guess it was a much needed win.

Speaker 8 (05:47):
Yeah, sometimes ye're going into a buy with a loss
into a buyer sort of such. When you have a loss,
you just want to play straight away, so you can
make up for it or work on the stuff you
need to, but then, yeah, it just feels like we're
looking up at the wall with the last our last
game we won was Carmelavi, so it felt like an
age again. So it's good to get back on the
horse and then hopefully just get back into the stuff

(06:08):
we do well when.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Yeah, and that'll go a far way to winning games.
And another another game in the centers for you.

Speaker 8 (06:16):
Yeah, I was, I was actually warming up wad I
got to Saw.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
I think you've got to sting us.

Speaker 8 (06:22):
I was warming up thinking I was coming on at
a hook of twenty minutes and then he was all right,
and then he obviously rock went down so went into sinus.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
And I was right, that's too bad.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
I mean, you've been asked this a few times this year,
but what's it like for you mentally sort of trying
to prepare for you might come on at number nine.
You could cover in the halves, or you might play center.
You know, who knows where you're going to play fullback?

Speaker 4 (06:45):
You know what's it like? Yes, to be honest, it's
pretty easy.

Speaker 8 (06:48):
Yeah, it's hard to I feel like any times I
get nervous and I'm thinking about my job too hard,
and that's when you know what you're playing, so I
don't really know where I'm coming on it, so it's
it makes it pretty easier. Probably the relaxus I've ever
been and probably the most fun I've had. So yeah,
I'm enjoying it.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
And how was the bye week for you? Good?

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Good?

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yet?

Speaker 8 (07:09):
A bit of hunting. I was actually meant to get
fishing for some bluef and tournament the weather was there.
But a hunting and I've actually been meeting some meeting
some people where I can go hunting up a little
bit up here. So Carle that actually runs the ball
Boys up here, He's got a block and north head
so it saves me driving all the way home.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
But I'm meeting some cool people at the moment. So
it's that's cool.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Because you always talk about hunting and as the end
up asking about that, but where do you actually normally
go hunting and what does it involve?

Speaker 8 (07:38):
Yeah, I can give you the spots spot, I just
say that when.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
You're back home.

Speaker 8 (07:45):
Yeah, a few different blocks, but as usually just deer
hunting or piganning. It's just I don't know, it's just
something I like if the weather's good up here, I'll
just go fishing out here. Still, the boys are into
fishing and got a little surfing crew now, so there's
a bit of a variety there. But yeah, I'll always
fall back into to pickunning or deer hunting. It's just
something I like doing. My partner encourages it too. Apparently

(08:07):
I'm pretty crumpy. I I don't go out, so she
pushed me to go into.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Imagine some pretty good balls out there sometimes.

Speaker 8 (08:14):
Yeah, my dogs are pretty useless, so they don't cash them,
but apparently there is.

Speaker 5 (08:17):
And just the thought on the young guys went really
well again tonight. Why do you think they're going so well?
Those some of those young kids in the forwards, especially
oh just Flicker and the Dricken, They just freaks me.

Speaker 8 (08:30):
It's just they've been in the system now for a while,
the system that Web's brought over, and everyone's got to
do their own job, and it's an easy way for
you to do it well within the system, and it's
I think it's the bigger part of it is the system.
And like I feel like a lot of players are
playing their best footing at the moment. Ever, like last year,
this year because of the system that's in place. So

(08:53):
you'd have to say it's it's the credit to what
Weby's brought over and the assistants and the coaches all.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
Together in cam as well.

Speaker 8 (09:01):
But yeah, I think the pieces of the puzzle, all
the recruitment and all that kind of stuff, it's a lot,
a lot I feel that comes down to connection. That's
a big driver at the moment on how we connect
what we do, not just on the field, but off the.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Field, big moments The League.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Podcast, it is my pleasure to welcome on to the
Big League Podcast for the very first time a name
and face very familiar in the New Zealand rugby league scene,
Richie Barnett. Richie, thank you so much for your time
this morning. How are you? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (09:34):
Good, Nathan, very good.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
Obviously, the Warriors are back in the win column, a
big win against the Tigers and they bounce back from
that two game losing streak. First of all, were you
expecting a performance like that given another two injuries to
key players Luke Metcalf, Charles Nickel, Cook Star another couple
go down and they bounce back strongly.

Speaker 7 (09:56):
Oh mate, it was pretty impressive actually, and their metrics
have never changed. Really, you know why when they own
the completion rate, when the error rates down and they
do all I guess the at one percent is really well,
they tend to win and it hasn't changed. It's been
a blueprint of their success throughout this year. But with
the changes, he was obvious clearly and an uncertainty part

(10:21):
of you know, what can what would this look like?
Would can a Boyd be the person's about to control
and manage the team around? The injury to Rocker Berry
that had an influence Mitch Barnett, the leadership down, so
there is many things to be challenged by. But again
they the next man in theme seems to be working

(10:43):
really well and they nailed it, absolutely nailed it.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
What did you make of Tanner Boyd?

Speaker 7 (10:49):
I think he's a class player. I think he's exactly
what you'd hope for another player coming in number Metcalf
to own that space. He's a sixty nine gamer, so
he's not new to the position. He's been around for
some time. He gets his chance to showcase exactly his
skill set and they did manage his side around. I

(11:10):
think after the game he said that I'm absolutely exhausted
in terms of his voice is nearly gone because he
directs hard. He really does voice his opinion on the field,
and he pushes the team around. So his cover defense
was supreme. We know it was kicking games first class,
and he showed that in the game with over four
hundred meters. But his defense is covered defense. He was

(11:33):
just first class.

Speaker 3 (11:35):
Rockerberry dislocated his shoulder. We yet to find out whether
that means he's out for the season or just a
couple of weeks. This is just run of the mill, now,
isn't that this guy can't catch a break?

Speaker 7 (11:45):
No, he can't. I feel so sorry for him. He's
he's such a class play and offers so much to
the team, and it looks like he could be out
for a couple of weeks by the sounds of things,
But I'm not hoping it is only two weeks, so
he can get back on the paddock and give him
some certainty around the center positioning because it's forever changing.
It's never been settled. It's an area of concern, that

(12:07):
right edge, and they lead sixty percent of their points
through the right edge. So I'm hoping that he gets
back on the paddack sooner than later, are.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
There any areas of concern you're still seeing in the
Warriors game.

Speaker 7 (12:21):
I personally think that with the players that brought and
with it, I thought to a pick he was outstanding
at fullback. Now I know that charge would likely to
be back the week after, I suspect, but he was
just first class. And I think Wade also showed how
good a play he was in the game. So I
think everyone's lifting their games somewhat. And I think that's

(12:42):
the difference between a side starting to creep up in
terms of performance and standards, and it's only a small
percentage of each player doing doing the best on the
game that really changes the dial because we're always after
the big game shots and expecting more from players. But
you turn that doll a little and everyone has that impact,

(13:05):
It makes a big difference at the other end. And
so I personally think their blueprinters, what's won of them
games more and if they continue to do that whilst
improving each other's games, he's always improvements in every person's game.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
And just lastly, Ritchie to Mighty Martin Fielden again, he's
played almost every position on the field. It feels like
he indicated a couple of weeks ago at the press
conference at the club. Doesn't look like they're going to
resign him, and he's going to have to look off short.
Should they resign him or is it just sort of business?

Speaker 7 (13:35):
Well, I think if he's playing, if he's not happy playing,
and he's been extraordinary about a slot, and just be
patient and we're at the time. But they also they've
also got players that are coming through that are young
and exciting, like Joy Lenane and then you've got Jack
Clary and so that they've been signed in that position.

(13:58):
So I don't know where he fits and if he
wants to start and find himself to end his career,
because he's got a fair bit of time left in
his career and I think maybe he's considering maybe an
option to play first grade somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Fantastic, Thank you so much for your time rightly, really
really appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
This is going yeah, the Big League Podcast on the
Warriors bandwagon since day one. This is the Big League Podcast.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
Great to hear from both Timidy and Richie Barnett there
on Timodia Martin and the talk about him going away
to another club next season, because it looks like the
Warriors don't want him. From my perspective, Burge and I
know what Barnett talked about in terms of the youngsters
they've got coming through the likes of Jet Cleary, But
from my perspective, the amount of use they've got out

(14:50):
of Timighty this year in so many different positions. We
know injuries are going to happen every year, We're going
to have to deal with this every year and players
coming through. How many players are there in the NRL
like Timida who can play just about every position. For me,
he's someone you I want to have around the club.

Speaker 5 (15:10):
He's a great guy and a great guy in a
lot of ways, so versatile, and also the way he's
accepted this role. You know he wants to be playing
half back or five minute but he's accepted this role
which has been brilliant, and he's just a top man.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
Like I give you an example.

Speaker 5 (15:25):
On Sunday, most of the players had already gone, Tomatow's
there standing having a chat to Simon Mannering, who was
there for the game. So they're enjoying catching up and
then Tomato's halfway up the stairs to go up for
the team dinner, and I'm yelling out, hey, Tomato, can
we have a quick chat?

Speaker 4 (15:42):
And he's happy to.

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Come down and turn around and have a chat on
the podcast. So yeah, he really is a lovely guy,
been so useful this year. I guess the questions to
ask would be if they did resign him, what does
that mean for Sam Healey? So can they keep Sam
Healey happy? Because Healy he's happy this year to just

(16:04):
you know, be in reserve grade and maybe get a
chance here and there. But next year you'll be thinking,
I want some chances if they have Martin as a utility.
Martin's the hooker cover, So where does Heally fit in?
So it's about thinking because Heally seems like the future
to me. He's the guy that comes in after Egan.
I really like the look of him. So it's about
how do they keep Healy happy of Martin's there? That'd
be the first question they ask. The other thing would

(16:26):
be how much money do they have to give to
a guy a specialist utility. They've got to put money
into other areas. And then the third one would be
whether Tomato gets offers from another club, because I'm sure
this club's out there looking at Tomato going well, wait
a minute, As you say, he can play everywhere. He's
been at four or five clubs, one hundred n L games,

(16:46):
seven tests for the Kiwi's. He's a good guy to
have as a experience half. So he may get an offer,
but he does want to stay in New Zealand. I
know that he told me that because he loves the
lifestyle here. He's very said, or he loves us hunting
and everything.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
So but it's a really tricky decision, isn't it right.
Let's go through this game in a little bit detail.
First of all, the reaction from coach Andrew Webbs's a
post game He says they wanted to focus on connections
after losing Luke Metcalf and Charles nickel Cook start.

Speaker 4 (17:17):
I thought they did a really good job of that.

Speaker 9 (17:19):
We just saw him about who played well, and I
think we listed every playoff. So I thought the whole time,
while the scoreboy didn't always look like we're along way ahead,
I thought we'll dominate some big periods of the game.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Now, the lead storyline out of this game is, of course,
Tanner Boyd. I thought he had a solid debut performance
at halfback. He didn't like the world on fire. You know,
he clearly doesn't have the pace that Metcalf has or
the X factor that Metcalf had has, but he is
a steady hand on the wheel. He organized the attack
really well. He had a strong kicking game and including

(17:51):
I highlighted a perfectly weighted chip kick which the Tigers
had to force dead. He kicked five from six off
the t birge, which again is better than Metcalf. And
his defense was outstanding. It was good.

Speaker 5 (18:02):
I mean the Penrith sent a lot of traffic at him.
With Lewie on that edge, think he made twenty tackles.
He did miss a couple. He missed missed one for
the Tiger second tried Adam Dewey, but in general stood
up well defensively, but mainly his organizations, game management. There
was a really nice structure when you looked across the
field at the way he set himself up.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
He knew where he wanted to be. I really liked
the way he digs into the line.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
He's a bit like Karen Foran, so he goes right
to the line and then passes commits defender's a bit
of uncertainty. That's a tough way to play. You get hammered,
but it's the way as he said, it's the way,
as he said after the game, it's the way he
likes to play.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
And the kicking.

Speaker 5 (18:45):
Nice to have someone that kick so well off the tee,
but especially general play. Like the Warriors, they don't have
the biggest forward pack and they don't have Barnett anymore.
So I think that bonus five or ten meters in
general play. I think this team it's really helpful, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
I agree? And you, as you said, you had a
quick chat to him after the game in the sheds
and you asked him whether he was happy with his
communication and the structure of the attack.

Speaker 9 (19:13):
There's obviously things we were want to fix up, but yeah,
I was happy with Alan, and yeah we'll clean those
things up to be better.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
But he's never going to be perfect, but we'll keep
striving for that. And the Tigers also sends a lot
of traffic your way. That definitely did.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
Yeah, I expected that. Jerme's a quality play and he's
always going to be coming, and yeah, I thought we
handled it pretty well.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
But again, there were things we need to fix up,
and yeah, we'll do that.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
Boyd referencing Jerome Lewi there. Of course, and Andrew Webster
liked Boyd's defense and organization.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
He talks really well.

Speaker 9 (19:46):
I think everyone was clear on their roles and where
there were being dutchy strength, and he kicks the ball
really high and far, so yeah, I thought he'd did
an excellent job with that.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
How big of a blow is losing rocc o'berry to
yet another injury for me? Losing him for the season
obviously he's dislocated a shoulder. I feel for him because
it's just blow blow. He cannot stay on the field.
Losing him for the season would be It would just
be another massive blow because you notice the difference when

(20:16):
he plays in terms of that edge defense, and coach
Andrew Webster's just sort of explained in terms of his
injury why they're unsure if he'll be able to continue
this season.

Speaker 9 (20:26):
There sometimes there are seasons sometimes you can rehatting them
and not have an operation.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
So we'll just wait and see on that one.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Is rocker Berry made of glass?

Speaker 7 (20:35):
Well?

Speaker 5 (20:36):
I was thinking of Mel Gibson lethal weapon. I think
his character was Riggs, wasn't it Martin Riggs? And he
used to just look at his shoulder regularly. During those
movies and then he'd pop it back in against the
wall or against the filing.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
Cabinet in out of pain.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
But rockerberry Man, he's he's not made a glass. But
he's one of those guys this season. He had a
bad brand last year too. But I think he's played
six games. You know, it's just crazy. He comes in
for one or two, gets injured again, doesn't even finish
some games between hamstring and shoulders. Sometimes if you're trying
too hard, these things happen. But he's just got to

(21:11):
feel so sorry for him. I don't know how mentally
he can get through this in terms of a loss.
It's a big loss, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
What's lethal weapon?

Speaker 4 (21:24):
Oh? Sorry, what's the weapon? Looking at me?

Speaker 5 (21:28):
So we're going to add this to your list of
movies you've got to see before you're thirty, Nathan, Jesus,
you've got to get some street credibility out there when
you're mixing with people.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
What does this have to do?

Speaker 4 (21:40):
Okay? So, lethal Weapon?

Speaker 5 (21:41):
Yeah, classic cop buddy movie of the nineties, I believe
Mel Gibson, Danny Glover absolutely fantastic three movies.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
Yeah, make sure you check them out. You haven't heard
a leth Weapon or seen it.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Mel Gibson's the He's the guy who's like with the sword.
What am I thinking of? Birdl Gibson.

Speaker 5 (22:04):
Mel Gibson is like the one of the greatest Australian
is of all time, alongside Russell Crowe. Mel Gibson's Russell
Crows inw Ziander. Have you heard him than Wellington. Have
you heard of Mad Max? Yes, yes, so that's mel Gibson.
Have you heard of Braveheart, Yes.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
That's the one. I was trying to think of Braveheart
with the with the sword and he's got his arm there. Yeah,
and so Letther Weapon was his other really big but
he's had a lot of a lot of big movies. Geez,
I'm glad we've cleared that up. I don't know what
this has to do with my street carde. But well
you didn't the Gooney's last time, and now I mean

(22:40):
you you just made that up. You don't know hear
mel Gibson.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
Yeah, No, I know who.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
Mel Gibson is. I just I haven't seen any of
his movies, but your Rocco.

Speaker 5 (22:51):
The thing is now they can't afford any more injuries
in the centers. So they've got Adam pompey Eli Laotawa
I feel will come back this week rather than using
Cate Weller. I think they've got to start giving Laota
a game time again to build him up to be
ready for bigger games in August and hopefully September.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
But they can't afford any more injuries.

Speaker 5 (23:12):
Like you talk to your intro about next man up,
but you know that's fine, but then soon there won't
be any more men, you know. In terms of other
players that sort of stood out Birds, Roger twy vasa
Schek had a pretty electric run in the elector Halla
Sima with the another piece of individual brilliance.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
How did he score that try on the left wing?
He looked for all money, like they just closed off
that space and he went naut and threw the guy
out the way.

Speaker 5 (23:37):
He's just great at shedding defenders a he's got that
magic touch. And the Tigers will help you having nightmares
because he scored that amazing try against them in round
four where he burned down the other side. Special guy,
special talent and becoming becoming very very solid. And Roger
you just see in his body language, he's really enjoying this.
He's found his place on the wing. He's getting so involved.

(24:01):
He could be really important coming into the last few months.
And the other point I'd make about the game, I
thought Chanell probably had one of his best games of
the season, which might be no coincidence given the.

Speaker 4 (24:11):
Way Boyd likes to organize.

Speaker 5 (24:13):
And I really liked that second try that Chanell scored
the set play with a fake to go to the right,
comeback left and Aaron Clarke double pump and dummy and
then sends Chanell through a massive gap. That that's the
kind of stuff you want to see more from the Warriors,
more of the really clever set plays. Were both being
critical of their work in the in the red zone,

(24:34):
and that was that was nice.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
You're right by the way, you keep sounding like you
got about to kill over halfway through those sentences.

Speaker 4 (24:41):
Water would be good, mate, Yeah, let's get some water.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
The Warriors face the Knights in Newcastle on Sunday. The
Knights sit thirteenth on the ladder with six wins and
eleven losses. They have been all over the place. In
March they got hammered by the Titans, then lost to
the Titans again, in May, then got pumped by the
Eels and a week after they thrashed the Panthers. They're

(25:08):
coming off a thirty two fourteen loss to the Storm.
The Knights have just lost Ecra Dylan Lucas to a
Liz Frank LIZI.

Speaker 4 (25:16):
Sounds like your cologne or something by Colone.

Speaker 5 (25:20):
Yeah, sounds like the sort of cologne you use, Liz
Frank by you know, by Justin Bieber or something, you know, that.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
Sort of Liz Frank by Justin Bieber. That's sort of vibe. Yeah, yeah,
I'd wear that. They're also without Calen Ponger. The Warriors
are going to absolutely steamroll and merge. I don't see
any way out for the Knights here.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
Don't be so don't be so sure, my friend, going
to Newcastle is always tough. I've got names of that place.
You're right. The Knights have been all over the place,
have struggled, but far out. They beat the Warriors last
year in Newcastle twenty twenty three, and if you remember,
Warriors have been great season. They go to Newcastle around
six or seven lost on a Sunday night as well.

(26:01):
Webster was so pissed off that was one of his
the games that most annoyed him that season. I think
Bradman Besk got a couple of late tries, careless performance,
and I think the year before twenty two they lost
in the rain bloody eight six or something in a rainy, windy,
shitty day at Marathon Stadium. Only know because I was
there and it was a horrible, horrible day, pelting down,

(26:24):
getting to the game and back, so hard place to go.
Fans are really good at getting on the back of
the referee, so that that home crowd is worth a
few points. I take your point though. The Warriors should
be should be too good, but it's not the sort
of game you want to fall behind it as well.
I'm trying to say, you know, they've got to make
sure they stamp their authority early, get a lead, and

(26:44):
then Knights are thinking here we go again, and the
Warrior's gone with it. They don't want to leave the
door Ajar.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
In terms of the Warriors team for this week, obviously
they're not going to have rock O Berry. There's a
question mark over Adam Pompey is do we have any
update on him? He had an arm injury.

Speaker 5 (27:00):
Yeah, I thought it was an injury because you saw
him really clutching it towards the end, and commentary is
even saying on the TV they should go to his side.
But I talked to him quickly after the game as
he was walking past with this partner. I said, Adam,
you okay? Said, oh yeah, mate, it was just a stinger.
So he just got a really bad stinger where you
can't I mean you'd remember from your rugby days where
you can't feel it for a few minutes. But after

(27:22):
the game he said it was fine. These guys always
downplay things, they're so tough, but he seems to be fine.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
So he's okay.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
But what do you do it?

Speaker 3 (27:31):
What do you do it?

Speaker 4 (27:32):
Right center?

Speaker 3 (27:32):
I put Kirk cape well back there. I think he
played really well. I think you need a really solid,
experienced defender I would prefer and given given how well
the second rowers are playing, you know Lecqua and the light,
I'd feel quite comfortable moving Kirk Cape porter center to
fill that gap.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
It's a hard one, you're right, because Marata looked really
good back in the second row. He's not bad at prop,
but he looks really good on the edge damaging. It's
hard to drop Leka he's going so well, but there
is also the thing where you've got to get Leah
Tower back in there. He's the guy you're going to
need in August September. He's a gun center when he

(28:11):
gets going, when he gets confidence. So when do you
start using him?

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Maybe?

Speaker 5 (28:16):
I guess what you're saying is maybe they wait till
the Titans match the week after at home rather than
Newcastle away.

Speaker 4 (28:23):
That's a good problem to have.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
The Big League Podcast for the biggest league fans. The
Big League Podcast.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
Its Day one, right Birds quick fire predictions. But first
I've just googled Mel Gibson and it says he's an
American born in New York, not the not in Australia.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
He's Australian. What's it is?

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Not him? That's him.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
He's Australian.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
He's American.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
No, he's not.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
He was born in New York.

Speaker 4 (28:54):
I don't know what website you're on.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
Wikipedia.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
Yeah, well someone's edited it. He's Australian. You certainly grew
up in Australia. Anyway, he's not. He's not an American.
That's outrageous.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
I don't know. Wikipedia is not usually wrong. Yeah, I know,
Well you shouldn't just rely on Google for things. Just
listen to listen to the oracle next to you. You
like to think of yourself as that, don't you?

Speaker 2 (29:18):
All right?

Speaker 5 (29:18):
I have to No one else does quick, neither you,
nor my wife nor my sisters. Might be someone out
there in the office, but yeah, all right.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Predictions a week tweet tea of the NRL. If you
can believe it, bird, let's get on with it. Dolphins
versus the Cowboys in Redcliffe.

Speaker 5 (29:38):
Should be close. I love these Queensland Derby's. I'll go
with the Dolphins just because they're at home. Cowboys were
good in the close loss to the Bulldogs. Dolphins have
been up and down, but I'll go Dolphins here.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
I'm going to back the Cowboys just based off that
close how closely they pushed the Bulldogs. There.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
Sharks Roosters. Sharks are back, aren't they.

Speaker 5 (29:59):
They've sort of rebounded from that hammering at the hands
of the Warriors a couple of good wins lately.

Speaker 4 (30:05):
But the Roosters are very competitive too.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
They came back from losing to the Tigers for a
good one over the Dragons when they were trailing for
decent periods. So that's a tough one to call, but
I'll go with Creneller again at home, and I think
their Nieker Hines went really well on the weekend, so
I think they're starting to get back to where they were.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
Yeah, I see this is a pretty evenly post contest,
but I tipical the way of the Shacks based on
home advantage Panthers Rabbit O's.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
I mean, there's two big stories here.

Speaker 5 (30:33):
Number one is the revival of the Panthers, which we
kind of talked about after the win over the Warriors,
which I asked. I asked Ivan clear after that game
if it was a turning point for the season. He's
sort of reluctant to say it was, but I felt
like it was. And it's pretty obvious they were going
really well. And then the Rabbit o's Wayne Bennett, you
know that they could get the wooden spoon, which is

(30:54):
very sad. They had so many injuries and it just compounds.
So the Panthers will be you know, I don't give
the Rabbits any chance in.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
This man had to see any way there for the Rabbits,
Raiders Eels, Raiders top of the ladder.

Speaker 4 (31:09):
Yes, in my earls, I think I tipped them a
couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 5 (31:12):
But now the Raiders they're flying and seriously mate with
the run with the drawer they've got, They've got quite
a decent run home. They could stay top, which would
be remarkable because who was tipping them at the start
of the season. I think there were even people at
the start of the season in Australia tipping the Raiders
to come last.

Speaker 3 (31:33):
That is incredible, That is incredible and I will back
them to win this weekend Bulldogs versus the Dragons.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
Are the Bulldogs starting to wobble a bit?

Speaker 3 (31:42):
They weren't convincing, they went convincing? Were they? So? Potentially
this sort of run. Has it reached a bit of
a bit of a turning point? Do we think have
they peaked early?

Speaker 8 (31:55):
Well?

Speaker 5 (31:55):
From a warrior's point of view, I hope so, because
if they if they drop down, because the Broncos are
the worry the Broncos, they're coming, They're coming home strong.
But if the if the Bulldogs are the ones that
dropped down, and to say, fear and the Warriors stay
up there in the Broncos take the place in the four,
isn't that?

Speaker 3 (32:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (32:14):
I don't think the Bulldogs are a top two team,
but let's see where they go. I think they will
beat the Dragons though. Storm Seagulls. Yeah, these two teams
hate each other, they have done for years, but the
Sea was just on as competitives they used to be,
so the match this used to be a classic matchup,
really good one.

Speaker 4 (32:31):
Not so much anymore. The Storm at home. You know,
it's pretty predictable, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
Storm to win that one and a massive, massive fixture
in with Sydney Bird Tigers Titans.

Speaker 5 (32:44):
Yeah, it actually is, though, mate, because Benji Marshall really
needs this win. They've lost six out of the last seven.
They really really need this. Otherwise it's going to be
under a lot of pressure. If they lose to the Titans.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
They'll win.

Speaker 5 (32:56):
I'm sure the Tigers will win. It's at Leichhart, really
tough place to play. So back the Tiger's here. Back
the Tigers.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
Knights versus the Warriors.

Speaker 5 (33:04):
Here we go, There we go, Knights versus Warriors. I've
said it will be close. Don't get too carried away.
Don't think it's going to be easy. It's not going
to be easy, but they'll take a lot of confidence
what they did against the Tigers and the Warriors.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
They'll get the job done. They've been good on the
road this year. No reason why they can't continue. That
war is going to win by thirty. Thank you, Michael Berges,
