Hey everyone, it's Captain Ron and each week are Beyond Contact.
We'll explore the latest news in ufology, discuss some of
the classic cases, and bring you the latest information from
the newest cases as we talk with the top experts.
Welcome to Beyond Contact. I am Captain Ron, and today
we have a very special guest, mister Josh Gates. Josh
(01:18):
is a television host and producer who has quite literally
been all over the world chasing down many of the
well known mysteries of our planet. He's been very real
about looking at even the biggest questions we have, including
are we alone? What happens when we die? All of
the big questions. He currently has three shows running on
the Discovery Channel, many of which have had many speakers
(01:41):
that we have at Contact in the Desert this year.
Those shows are Expedition Unknown, Expedition, Expedition Files, And on
top of that, he's going to be our keynote speaker
at this year's Contact in the Desert conference. He really
is all over the place. In fact, right now he's
taking the time to talk to us from Egypt, so
bear with us the connection. Hey, Josh, how's it going
(02:02):
over there in Egypt?
Speaker 4 (02:03):
Well, it's hot, unsurprisingly and very sandy, but other than that,
it's great here. We've made a lot of shows in
Egypt over the years, and I'm always happy to come
back here. It is a place of incredible history and mystery.
So I love it here. It's right up my alley,
and thank you for having me. I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Oh absolutely. Would you by chance be investigating the recent
reports about the possible large space or structures they found
under the Great Pyramids, because that's what we've been talking
about lately in our community, and I thought I know
the guy for this job.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Well sort of is the cryptic answer to that. We
are here talking about the pyramids, and about the Great
Pyramid in particular, so I guess we kind of are.
But we didn't come here just for that story, which
has been all over the news, as you well know.
We came here just to really understand the Great Pyramid
from a kind of bottom to top perspective. I mean,
(02:56):
for my money, I don't think there is a more
famous building in the world that has inspired more conspiracies, arguments, beliefs,
mystery than the Great Pyramid of Giza. It is like
the motherload of mystery. And so our show is going
to be looking into what do we really know about it,
what don't we know about it, what's weird? What can
(03:19):
we demystify? And so yeah, certainly that'll be a part
of it. But I have to say, I'm I'm really
here to just try to understand this building because it
is a truly mysterious thing.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
I think deservedly so, I mean the math in that thing.
I've read a lot about it, but the math, the
fact that it's really eight sided, not four sided, the
way it's tiny, all of the precision of it is
fascinating given its age right totally.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
I mean it was built four thousand, five hundred years ago,
so we got to really just let that sink in
for a second. That is a really long time ago.
And the guy who built it, Cufu sometimes called Chiops,
we don't know that much about him, so the mystery
is kind of start right out of the gate. Not
this is so old that very little survives from his reign.
(04:06):
The only statue, the only representation we even have of
this guy is this one little tiny figurine that survives.
There are no inscriptions of any kind inside the Great
Pyramid other than some graffiti that people left later. But
think about that, this guy built like one of the
most complicated building projects still to this day ever construct, right,
(04:28):
and there's no writing inside of it. So we've lost
so much information about it. So it kind of it's
mysterious from the jump because he's mysterious. And you know, look,
there are pyramid building phases after him, and his father
kind of kicked off the real true pyramid building phase
before him. Snepheru was his name, But then the Egyptians
(04:52):
kind of abandoned this whole pyramid thing a little bit later,
you know, and they stop building these things. We don't
totally know why, but you know, part of it must
be that they were just a huge pain in the
bud to build. I mean, there's no question that they
were these massive public works projects that probably after a
few of them, they were like, all right, enough of this,
let's do something else.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Yeah, And they chose to use these giant blocks instead
of smaller blocks, which to scene like that would work.
So there must be a technology that they had that
made that easy enough to do.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Well. Well, this is one of the things that we're
really investigating, is like the pyramids are one of those things,
the Great Pyramid. It's one of those things that your
whole life you just hear things about, you know, you
hear people assert all sorts of things about it. In
some ways, it's an interesting use case for all sorts
of conspiracies because you know, people say it's off by
only millimeters from bottom to top. It's the most accurate
(05:43):
thing ever made, And is that true? So I wanted
to know the answer to that. And and the blocks,
you know, are cut with technology that we don't even
have today. We couldn't do this today. You hear things
like that a lot, right, So I wanted to just
sort of drill into like, wait a minute, what's real
here and what isn't And I have to say, some
of it you can demystify, Like there's a lot more
about this pyramid that is kind of right in front
(06:04):
of us that we can demystify. But there are things
about it that the closer you look, the weirder it gets.
There are things about the Great Pyramid that even talking
to the brightest Egyptologists in the world, they have to
sort of fess up, we don't really have a clue.
I love that is for what this is.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Even say it's the center of the world's land mass,
it seems like any point on the planet would be
the center, because it would be more half either way,
you know. So that's a weird one as well.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
I mean, one thing that is true about it, you
can just say as a one off across its entire base,
which is the length of like two and a half
football fields, without any advanced tools, without even really complex math.
We don't really think they were even working with complex
math at this point. It is only off in terms
of its level by like less than an inch across
(06:55):
two and a half football fields.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
It is across forty five hundred years.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
Across forty five hundre years. It stayed on bedrock there
completely level.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
So maybe forty five hundred years ago it was exact
you know what I'm saying totally.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
It is definitely a master work of engineer, no question
about it.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Incredible. Let's move on to some of the UFO cases
that you've looked at. We kind of focus on that.
I want to see what your thoughts are now that
it's been a few years since you've been there. Let's
start off with the most famous case, which you guys
did a great show on, and that of course is Roswell.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
And that's Mother, the Mother of them all.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
That's right, it is, and it's one of the most
compelling cases out there. I think there's a huge amount
of evidence and a lot of witnesses that make this
quite an interesting case. What was your takeaway from that case?
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Well, you know, it's not to bring everything back to
the pyramid, but again, it is a good use case.
It's like, one of the things that gets tricky is
when we have these black holes of information and ros
and with the pyramids, we have that because of time.
But with Roswell, we have that because of secrecy in
a lot of ways. And so when you have a
(08:04):
lack of information, our imaginations tend to run wild, or
our you know, suspicions that maybe something is happening beyond
what we've been told. And so one of the things
is like the skeptical part of my brain hears about
Roswell and thinks, well, okay, it's nineteen forty seven. Clearly
we're testing out weird technology. This is the part of
(08:25):
the country to be testing it out in it all
kind of makes sense, right. There's it's a secret military test.
It's some balloon, it's it crashes, and they don't really
want to be that forthright about it because it's, you know,
it's military testing. And so the skeptical part of my
brain went into looking at Roswell that way. But like
with all things, like even the Great Pyramid, there are
(08:46):
parts of it you go, wait a minute, this is weird,
Like this doesn't totally make sense, right, you know, initially
they kind of said they had recovered this disk, and
then it turned into you know, a weather balloon, and
if it was a kind of secret thing, why isn't
there story more together, and you know, it has I
(09:07):
think sparked decades of theories for a good reason, which
is that in the margins, in the black holes, there
is a lot about the Roswell story that is weird
and hard to reconcile.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
And they're the things that are compelling for me are
number one, the cohesive narrative that they've built with little
players that seem random and they fit right into the story.
That's pretty compelling. And I'm also compelled by some of
the deathbed confessions. Why would a colonel leave a thing
for my granddaughter to know only to be opened upon
(09:40):
my death right. I want my granddaughter to know we're
not alone. I saw bodies, I saw ship. That to
me was a very compelling piece of evidence for sure.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
I mean I always you know, for me, one of
the tough stumbling blocks with all conspiracy theories is this
human factor. It's like the people who don't believe in
the Moonland. You know, a quarter of a million people
worked on the Apollo program right right across all of
the different agencies and firms that had to build all
the different parts of it. This notion that you could
(10:11):
get twenty people, let alone two hundred and fifty thousand
people to kind of stick to the same story always
seems impossible to me, right, So I always think, if
there isn't some leaking happening on this ship, it can't
be true. But with Roswell to your point, there are
these deathbed confessions and these people stepping forward who were saying, no,
(10:31):
I did see things, there were things happening there, and
that's when it gets more compelling, because you know, without that,
you got nothing. So to the moonfakers, I always say,
come on, show me a whole bunch of people who
were really you know, high level, well placed people that
can really pull the veil off this and tell me
this was faked. And of course they're not there, right.
(10:52):
I mean, it would be harder to fake the moon
landing than to do it. Has always been my opinion.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Yeah, we need to take a quick break here, Josh,
I'm back. We're going to ask you more about a
couple of the u f O cases you've investigated. In fact,
we're going to move on to the uk rosbubble. You're
listening to Beyond Contact on the iHeartRadio and Coast to
Coast am Paranormal podcast.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
Now, before.

Did you know that Tessa could save your life from cancer?
Are now available for little or no cost thanks to
the healthcare law called the Affordable Care Act. Let this
be the year you get screening tests that can help
detect cancer early when it's most treatable.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Don't let concerns get in your way.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
Talk to a doctor or other medical professional to learn
more about the best cancer testing options for you.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
We are back on Beyond Contact. I'm Captain Ron. We're
speaking with Josh Gates today. Josh, you certainly hit some
interesting cases to look at. And the other one I
wanted to ask you about is what they call the
uk Roswell, which of course is the Rendelschamp forest incident.
You investigated this years ago, you even met Colonel Holt,
and I wanted to see what you thought of that case.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
Well, I kind of love this story, you know, It's
like I like having my skeptical hat on about certain stories.
But Rendalsham is weird, you know, it just is. I
would assume most folks listening to this know this story
the Rendalsham Forest incident, and this is where these these
very strange lights and unidentified objects were spotted by Air
(13:27):
Force personnel over several nights. And you know, the very
weird thing about this is that it's one of those
stories where it's not just one person who saw some
weird thing.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
It's a whole bunch of people.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
And it's a whole bunch of people who are not
predisposed to be talking about flying saucers and alien ships, right,
I mean, this is not something you talk about if
you're in the if you're in the Air Force and
serving on this base. And so I went to Rendalsham.
We walked around the remains of what's there, went out
into the forest to where this supposed landing happened, talked
(14:02):
to Colonel Holt, who I found really intriguing and compelling
and past the sniff test, you know, of a guy
who's who's really reliable and insane. And it's weird, you know, I.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Mean temporary notes, Josh, they have he has a little
microphone in his hand. Remember he recorded that live while
it was happening. That's a rare thing about this case
that we have the actual recording of him experiencing this
walking through the forest.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
And it's so compelling. I mean, when you listen to that,
I mean, it's really it's really wild. And so I
don't know, that's one of those ones where I'd love
to be able to say, Aha, here's your here's your
logical explanation. We went and looked at you know, a
lot of naysayers about that story have talked about, oh,
there was a light sort of a lighthouse that that
kind of would shine at regular intervals, and maybe this
(14:51):
is what they were seeing. We went to that, to
that light station, which is long defunct, and we replicated
the light. We put lights, we dragged lights up into
the tower or we First of all, they would have
seen that light tower countless times. It wasn't like that
was the first night that they lit that thing off, right,
They've been working.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
There for years. This guy wouldn't know that working in
an Air Force base of all things come.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
On, that's right, But even when we replicated it and
lit it up, it just you couldn't see it from
way down in the forest, and it really doesn't align
to the kind of dynamism that's described in this sighting.
It's not just some blinking light that people are seeing.
They're seeing something that's like moving around. Uh.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Colonel Peniston put his hand on the cramp.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Yeah, Now that part is trickier for me. At least,
I felt like you can. I sort of feel like
you can separate that case into two pieces. There's this
event that takes place where people at this base are
seeing lights and things moving in the sky. That's sort
of part one, and then part two is this thing
that happens in the woods with this thing that supposedly lands.
And that part's a little thornier because it's like there
(15:57):
is some evidence to support it. There's also my recollection
is at least that the reporting and accounting of that
was not quite as air tight, if my memory serves.
It's been a minute, but I remember thinking that I
had less confidence in the sort of landing part of it,
though I couldn't dismiss it, but I really felt compelled
by the sightings at the base.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
No doubt about it. You know, another interesting case you
looked at you picked the best ones. I'll tell you
you went to Africa and looked at that case from
nineteen ninety four, the Aerial School. Do you recall your
impressions of that mass witness case.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
You're always more intrigued by an incident were multi mean
if one person, you know, if I showed up on
here today and I say I saw big foot in
my yard last night, You're like, I don't know. You know,
maybe there's no footprints, nobody else saw it, no video,
I don't know who. What do I know about this guy?
Maybe you had too much to drink last night. You know,
we've all seen bigfoot and very hard after a couple
(16:53):
too many, all right, But then when we get into
these stories where it's like a whole bunch of people,
you know, saw a bigfoot in the yard and they're
not out there selling T shirts, then you're like, wait
a minute, what happened here? And I always to take
a slight diversion, you know, I used to host this show,
Destination Truth. That's where I started on sci fi, and
my barometer for any story on Destination Truth was it
(17:16):
doesn't matter if I believe it or if I don't
believe it. What matters is that the person or the
nature of the story is compelling enough that I think
something happened. And that's how I felt about this story
in Zimbabwe. For folks who don't know, there was this
incident in Zimbabwe, were at a school. A whole mess
of people saw an alien spaceship and we went back
(17:38):
there to where this happened and we met with a
bunch of those kids. We got them all together, brought
them back into this classroom that they were in that day.
And so this is one of those great moments where
you're like, look, I just want to see what these
people are like and look in their eyes and hear
from them. These people were shook. Something happened to them.
(18:00):
And this is not even like Rendelshim. There's a part
of it that's like it was in the dark, it
was in the woods. It was right. I mean, you
have to kind of go yeah, but they couldn't really see.
This is like in the middle of the day, a
spaces dealing.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
With children, which is much harder. They're not going to
think of a hulk. Let's all get seventy of us
together to create this this fake thing. When we're six
to of what six to ten, six to eleven, I
think with the age.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
Yeah, and this is like a one of those weird
mass sightings, broad daylight things that that happened, and is look,
that's one of those ones that like the deeper you
dig into it, the weirder it gets. And yeah, it's
like sixty or seventy kids between I think six or
twelve years old. They're out like on a break. They're
(18:47):
out like at recess. Basically at this school. Some reports
are won, some reports are several, but it's like this shiny,
you know, saucer like object that they see and it's
like in a field just beyond the school. And some
of the kids claim to see like beings of some kind.
Some of the kids didn't. But you know, this was
(19:08):
a really weird incident that these kids didn't just come
skipping back in laughing about this. They were freaked, you know.
I mean that's the other thing. It's like to six
and twelve year old kids make up things, sure, but
you know, if you're a parent, I'm a parent, I
know the difference between when my kid comes in trying
to sell me on you know, a lie, and my
(19:29):
in crying and holding onto my leg because they're scared
by something. Right, So these kids were impacted by something
that happened to them that you know, seriously scared them.
And so you have to again, you have to land,
whether you're a skeptic or a believer, you've got to
land at least on this footing. Something happened.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Something happened, for sure. You know your team's seen some UFOs.
You've guys caught on camera yourselves. You know you saw
something in the Anaconda Desert. So you've seen some UFOs
that you've caught on tape. What's the the most intriguing
sighting you've seen.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
Well, the thing that you're talking about in the desert
of Chile was a big ee. We went there as
part of a special on the belief in extraterrestrials. We
did a big four part special in twenty seventeen on
this question of extraterrestrials. It involved everything from the kind
of things we're talking about eyewitness sightings, to going to
Mission Control at NASA in Houston and talking with NASA
(20:25):
officials and astronauts. You know, we went out in the
Atacama Desert because we went up to the paranal Observatory,
which is this very slick observatory in the high deserts
of the Auta Comma. It's where they filmed some of
the James Bond stuff in Quantum of Solace. They blew
up that big building there that's all part of this
big observatory complex, and we went up there to see
(20:47):
how this telescope works, the VLT, the very large telescope.
They really need to come up with better names for
these things. Hilarious, the VLT, the very large telescope. And
we went and looked at that, and then we went
out in this area where people frequently report UFO sightings.
And you know this as well, it's weird. There are
places where people say this is a regular occurrence, you know,
(21:09):
and so you think, well, if it's a regular occurrence,
now I'm getting more skeptical. It's got to be something
that just repeats itself. It's a satellite, it's this, it's that.
So we went out there and there's very few satellites
that are you know, the International Space Station has a
very bright distinct signature. But you know, a satellite is
different than something that's not a satellite, if that makes sense.
(21:30):
And so we're out there looking at the sky, and
the sky is incredibly clear, and so occasionally you'd see
a shooting star and occasionally you would see a satellite.
You could you know, a very tiny spect of light,
you know, traversing the sky, and then like out of
a movie. And actually it's funny because in the show
I'm kind of I'm like completely freaking out, but I'm
(21:50):
also kind of half laughing, which is bad as a host, right,
because you should really be playing this for all it's worth.
But I'm like so gobsmacked that this shit is actually happening.
All of our equipment completely, Fritz is out, like, cameras
are going down crazy squelch, noises are coming through the
you know, people's headphones. It was like I was in
(22:10):
a movie all of a sudden, and it's one of
those moments where you're kind of terrified excited, but also like,
come on.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
You'll love to see in the episode too, which made
it very very fun.
Speaker 4 (22:21):
Yeah, it's like, this is really how And we saw
a light in the sky, a light in the sky
that did not in any way a line with a satellite,
a light in the sky that appeared to change its direction,
and I suddenly was like, oh shit, now I'm one
of these people. I've joined the club I'm in. I
wasn't asking for this. I mean, I guess I kind
of was, but now now I'm just another person.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
You were asking for it, but you didn't expect it
to camp.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
I didn't expect it. And now one of these guys
sitting here telling you I've seen lights in the sky.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
Incredible. We need to take a break here, Josh. When
we come back, we're going to talk with you more
and get some of your conclusions on these UFO cases
and what you think of the US Walton case. You're

Speaker 3 (24:51):
We are back on beyond Contact. Captain Ron having a
very fun conversation with Josh Gates. We're talking about UFOs
and sightings and I want to ask you about this case,
the Travis Walton case, another one of the great interesting cases.
Travis has been a regular guest speaker at Contact in
the Desert. You've had the chance to meet him, talk
to him and look at this case. What is your
(25:12):
walk away from that case?
Speaker 4 (25:13):
Well, let me let me start by saying that I
have the pleasure of knowing Travis. I haven't seen him
in a few years, but I've seen him both at
other events, and he's been a guest on a couple
of my shows a few times. So I've spent some
time with Travis. And I say this with no disrespect
to Travis, although it may sound a little disrespectful, but
(25:34):
I don't mean it with any disrespect. If you've spent
any time with Travis Walton at all, it is not
hard to imagine that something happened to Travis Walt and
I really don't mean that as a slight but Travis
does seem like someone moved by an event in their
life that affected them deeply. That's what I mean to
say by it. He He's not promotional, if that makes sense.
(25:57):
He's not some guy who's kind. I mean, obviously speaks
a lot about his story and he has obviously it
is part of his life and how he makes money.
But I just mean, he's not like this PT Barnum
guy trying to sell you on this thing. He just
very matter of factly is like, this is what happened
to me. And there's something about his i don't know,
(26:17):
sort of serene nature of how he talks about this
thing that is oddly compelling because you just kind of think, yeah,
like I think something happened to you. So look, I mean,
if you really want to kind of split the Travis
Walton the case down the middle, there are things that
about it that are clearly really compelling, right, Like a
group of guys up in the woods when the other
(26:38):
loggers come back, they're in a panic, they're terrified. Why
detector tests Travis lost time appearing days later. I mean,
all of it is compelling. I mean, it is kind
of a terrifying story. You can pick at some of
those things. There's certainly people who've made compelling cases why
(26:59):
they don't believe story. There is a financial component to it.
I think that's true. I think these these guys and
I mean could could stand a benefit from it. I'm
not saying they did, but it certainly became a part
of their especially for Travis, a part of his business,
his life. They seem to have had some prior interest
in UFOs, right, I mean, there's some talk that they
(27:19):
had an interest in this beforehand, they'd been watching a
kind of a UFO movie. There's some criticism of how
well these polygraph tests were administered. There's some talk about
people recanting their story. I mean, you know, there's there,
there is stuff you can bitch out here, scratch out here, right.
I will just say, going off of the kind of
sniff test of like knowing Travis, I think something happened
(27:41):
to Travis. Now I don't know what happened to him.
I'm not I wasn't there, and there's not really any
physical evidence to show for it. So we have some
you know, there's only so much we really can say
without drifting into some real speculation. But to spend time
with Travis, I think on some level is to feel
like this guy had an authentic experience of some kind.
That that's my takeaway.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
But I agree. You know, you also did a live
show a few years back that had other contact in
the desert. Guest Boy, A lot of our speakers have
been on your show. It's incredible. Nick Pope was on.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
This show, George, Nick Pope is great.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
On that show, you guys showed and heard testimony about
the Navy video such as the tic Tac video, the
gimbal video. What were your impressions of those videos?
Speaker 4 (28:25):
The videos are insane? They I mean, look, if you're
going to get interested in this story, if you're someone
who's like, I don't know about this, it's like, watch
these videos. I mean, the one I looked at down
in Chile with the trail coming off the back of
it is like, what the hell is this?
Speaker 3 (28:38):
Right?
Speaker 4 (28:38):
What the hell am I looking at? And you got
a lot of people now who are willing to step
forward about these UAPs and say things that are you know,
you got like when we did that. We did a
live show in twenty twenty one about this, which is
I think where we had George Napon and you know,
(28:59):
we talked to Bill Nelson, NASA administrator, talking about his
belief in this. We talked to Harry Reid, the late
Harry Reid, you know who who you know had had
really pushed for more transparency around this. We talked to
John Podesta, We talked to Senior Intelligence officer Bob Wallace.
I mean, and how about these pilots that have stepped forward,
(29:19):
these ACE pilots and military officials who are like, we
don't know what this is, so I think it is
it is hard not to be compelled by some of
the video evidence. It is also true that it is
hard to totally evaluate them because they exist often on
thermal cameras and you can't quite tell relative speed of
how fast the vehicle it's being shot from his traveling
(29:42):
and trajectories and all those things. But you know, what
are they they don't do?
Speaker 3 (29:48):
You know that organization, the SCU, the Scientific Coalition for
UAP Studies. Those guys are a bunch of scientists. They
looked at these videos, the tic tac video. This is
what I found compelling because I'm I don't know anything,
I don't know what I'm looking and I see that
video right. But they have done like a six hundred
page report where they looked at every single frame of that.
They measured the distance, the wind speed, all of these things,
(30:12):
and they apparently have concluded that you know, the speed
that this thing traveled the TikTok I'm speaking of specifically,
And additionally, you know it's not just one tic tac.
A lot of people believe that there were a ton
of those It moved down and then there were a
whole group of them so you know, there's other elements
of this to make it even more fascinating. What could
(30:32):
this be?
Speaker 4 (30:33):
Yeah, and look, I think the answers to that question
are I mean, without really stretching our imaginations two fold,
it's either something other or it's some extremely classified asset
that we don't know about. And I certainly get there.
I could certainly get my head there.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
People sometimes say that, you know, it couldn't be ours
because a human brain would go flying out the side
because it stops on a dime and it makes these turns,
and I feel like, if it's our tech, it's not manned.
I think that AI would be driving something like that,
and AI could perhaps make these maneuvers.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
In my view, Yeah, I mean even this, you know,
what was it a couple summers ago with these these
balloons that showed up these you know that was like
wait a minute, that's still going on, you know. I
mean yeah, and you hear all the time. I spent
a lot of time in airplanes, a lot of time,
and I talk to pilots all the time and I
say that these guys you ever see and they go,
oh sure, yeah, we see stuff. We see stuff all
(31:35):
the time, and we don't know what it is, so,
I mean, I'm not saying that means it's aliens, but
I think the notion that we're not testing some pretty
bleeding edge tech out there in the remote corners of
the world is crazy. I mean, certainly there's you know,
some of these have to be attributed to military experimentation.
I think I've.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Heard astronauts say that they see things as well, and
I've also heard people like in the military pilots like
Ryan Graves says they see these objects all the time.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
Yeah, so you know something is out there.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Would they test a tictec right around a Navy ship?
I don't know. Maybe something is out there, we don't
know what it is. Okay, So you've looked at all
these cases, You've investigated the big famous cases firsthand, and
I think you believe there's intelligent life in the universe.
Just at this point, years later, can you tell me
where you sit on the possibility of any of these
UFOs being let's say, of non human origin. Is it
(32:32):
even possible?
Speaker 4 (32:33):
I felt almost anything's possible, right, I Mean, even the
most hardened skeptical scientists would probably say, you know, anything
is possible. We can't we can't totally discount what we
don't understand. I mean, look, I do believe there is
unquestionably other life in the universe. I think we are
kind of in a moment now where it's hard to
(32:56):
not believe that. I mean, we are now detecting these
planets that are in this habitable goldilocks kind of zone.
We are realizing that they are not all that rare,
and in fact, I think we're going to continue to
realize that they're exceptionally common. That throughout the universe there
are innumerable planets sitting in this zone that may support life.
(33:19):
You know, we can't even really get clear yet on
whether there's life in our own solar system. There may
be microbial life on Mars and other places, and icy
moons and things like that. So I just think it's
improbable that there isn't life out there. This bigger question though,
of like has it made a trip and come to
see us? You know, I don't know. I mean there's
a part of me that feels skeptical about this kind
(33:45):
of conspiratorial take that they're kind of lurking around, and
I mean I get it. It's the sort of star
trek first contact of it all, and they're here, but
we're not ready or they you know whatever. But you know,
the amount of technology required to cross the universe to
come and find us is so beyond anything that we
(34:05):
can do that we are really ants on a hill
at this point compared to the tech top, to the
technological advancement you'd have to have to make that trip.
And so I just don't know that I have seen
enough to say, yeah, they're here, they're watching, they're hanging out.
I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
You know.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
But I also would say I would not be so
bold as to say it's impossible or that all of
these videos show something terrestrial. I just don't know, you know.
I mean, my gut tells me if you're making that
trip and you're coming all the way here, you're probably
gonna say hi. I mean, you know, I don't know
that I necessarily subscribe to the kind of shadow world
(34:49):
of it all. But what do I know. Maybe they're
here right now, Maybe I'm one of them. We don't know.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
We're going to take the last break right here, Josh,
we come back. We're gonna ask you how you three
different jobs that take place all over the world on

inflammation needs to be stopped, and that is the purpose
of amystem and adapt to stem together.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
The stem cell WELLNESSCT at Healthy Looking dot com. Healthy
Looking dot Com.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
We are back on Beyond Contact. I'm Captain Ron. We're
speaking with Indiana Jones today, which is very fun and exciting. Josh,
do you have ever get follow ups to these investigations
you've done, like lab tests or something. Sometimes I feel
like I watch the show and it's like you're so
close to a discovery, and I wonder if maybe a
year later, somebody calls you and, oh, yeah, we did
find that piece or we did get the lab results.
(37:17):
Does that happen?
Speaker 4 (37:18):
Yeah. We have very few shows for Expedition Unknown that
we've done follow ups on. We've done a handful, and man,
I would love to go back to a lot of
these shows. You know, often we're at archaeological sites and
a year or two, three years later those sites are
transformed and the amount of knowledge that that archaeologists have
been able to gain in that time is incredible. There
are places that we've you know, we did a show
(37:39):
in the in the Jungles of Guatemala where we worked
with light ar technology laser scanning technology to discover an
entire pyramid complex that had not been seen in hundreds
of years. It was one of the most staggering things
we've done on the show. And six months later we
went back and they had already cut off the vines
from one face of the pyramid, and then I went
back another you know, six months later and they had
(38:01):
started excavating in front of it. And you know, I
mean this is like time laps, you know, photography. So
there's lots of stories that we'd love to do that with,
and we get asked that a fair amount about you know,
can you go back and do more on story X
or whatever.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
I wonder if people like called you back and said, hey,
guess what we did this, or we do they do that?
Speaker 4 (38:18):
Yeah, for sure, We've got great you know, a lot
of the people that we work with we'll also work
with again and again. I mean a lot of the
folks that I'm here in Egypt right now are working
with other folks who've been on the show several times before.
And so yeah, we were always you know, wanting to
go back and do follow ups on these shows, and
I think we'll see a bit more of that in
the seasons ahead, I hope for you.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Do you think there's going to be another show you
guys may take another look at the UFO e T question.
You mentioned it earlier, the very large telescope. We have
a lot of new technologies coming on from AI to
these new giant telescopes. Aviy Lobe was telling us about these.
There's like three different telescopes that are coming online in
the next like twelve months that are going to really
(38:57):
leaps and bounds expand our abilities. Do you think you
guys would maybe continue to pursue something like that.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
I would love to. I mean, we had a chance
to visit the Aricibo telescope before it, you know, collapsed
out in the jungles there and and the VLT tells
go about Natacama and went to NASA. To your point,
there is so much emerging technology in this space, and
James Web Telescope is doing incredible work, and so we've
got great contacts at NASA. I would love to continue
(39:24):
working with them and other institutions. Look, this is a
story that people obviously have a vested interest in but
they're also fascinated by and so that makes it prime
territory for us. And I'm fascinated by it, you know.
And I, by the way, on a kind of side
note programming note here, I'm a huge nerd for science fiction.
I grew up glued to Star Trek and and to
(39:45):
Star Wars, both of them really, and so I've always
looked up at the sky and been fascinated by all
of that. So yeah, are you kidding? I'd love to
go make more shows along those lines. Why not? In fact,
you know, we're on Expedition Files. We're doing a piece
on and uh Betty and Barney Hill, We're do you
know also that so we're we're continuing to on some
(40:06):
of the other shows and an Expedition next a lot
dealing with with with UFO stories. So I'd love to
do more of it. An Expedition Une for sure.
Speaker 3 (40:14):
Awesome. Do you do you have a favorite case.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
For UFOs or just in general?
Speaker 3 (40:19):
No, just in general that you've done. You've been doing
this for twenty years now, plus what what what's your favorite? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (40:26):
I had a handful that I love. I mean, if
I had, like Jeff Bezos money. I would be out
in the Pacific looking for Amelia Earhart. I love Amelia Earhart,
I always have. I think she's incredible, and I think
that what's left of that, you know, Lockheed Electure, if
any of it's left, I would love to see that
hanging in the Air and Space Museum. You know what
an amazing thing that would be to find that. I
(40:49):
love the Maya. I've always really been fascinated by the Maya.
Their their culture is just really mysterious and very intriguing.
And there are still big discoveries to be made in
the Maya world, for sure. You know, we've done some
stuff down on Guatemala. There are entire cities and temple
complexes still to be found that are just waiting out
in the jungles. So I love that stuff. In terms
(41:10):
of kind of you know, more kind of modern stories,
we did a show in the d'atlav Pass incident in
Siberia about the skiers hikers that died very mysteriously out there.
That was a really intriguing story and one of those
black holes that also once you fall down you just
kind of there's no end in sight. It's just everything
(41:31):
you learn makes it more mysterious. I've always been intrigued
by that story. You know, it's a long list. This
stuff is all fascinating to me, so I agree.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
I'm glad that was your answer, a long list, because
all of these cases that we've discussed today are fascinating
to me. And I know anything I don't know, I'm
still continue to be curious about. That's what's interesting stuff
we know. I don't need to hear that again, you
know exactly. So what's going on these days on Discovery Channel?
I know that you have. I've heard that they've toyed
with the idea of changing it to the Josh Gates Channel.
(42:02):
I don't know if there's anything truth to that or not.
But you've got three shows going at the same time.
Do you sleep, sir.
Speaker 4 (42:09):
Not really. I mean I'm out here in Egypt right now.
My schedule is busy. I mean, you know, I people
often come up to me and they say, man, you
have the best job in the world, and I want
to argue with that. It is such a privilege to
be able to not just travel for work, but to
investigate these stories and to meet some of the incredible
(42:29):
people that I get to hang out with who who
are real just you know, incredible experts. But it does have,
like all things, there's a cost, and the cost for
me is it's just a lot of time on the road,
you know. I this year it'll be maybe one hundred
and sixty days on the road. Some years it's two
hundred to two hundred and fifty days abroad. I mean
(42:51):
it's correctly, man, these are tough numbers, yeah, exactly. And
you know how all those guys end up, yeah, you know, brutalize.
So you know it's but it's also like kind of
what I know, like when I come home now, if
I'm home for two weeks, it's it's spooky, like I'll
do my laundry and I'll put it back in the suitcase,
like the drawers don't get a work out of it,
(43:12):
you know. It's it's like this is my suitcase, this
is where my clothes live, you know. So I am
kind of a creature of a habit now with all
of it. So I love to travel. I love the work.
It's really exciting. It's of course exhausting sometimes, but I'm
not complaining. It's great. And so we have all new
episodes of Expedition un known that are going to be
coming back this later late spring, summer, probably summer, and
(43:34):
you know, another dozen or more shows about really fascinating
mysteries around the world. Will be talking about the Great Pyramid,
as we mentioned, We'll be looking for lost World War
Two planes, vanished submarine. We're going to be talking about
Oh boy, Buffalo Bill Cody, a character who I kind
of knew about but really dug into and he's like
(43:56):
the most interesting man in the world. We're going to
be talking about Hitler's secret America bomber program at the
end of World War Two. You know, all sorts of
fascinating stuff. So, like I said, like, if your job
is to work around these kind of cases and these
kind of stories, it's hard not to be interested. I mean,
I still feel like I did twenty years ago when
(44:17):
I started this, like a kid in a candy store.
It's like, these are just cool stories, and you know
this this is the world that you're in too. It's like,
these are fastening stories. How can you help but be interested?
Speaker 3 (44:27):
Exactly? But there's a difference. As I told my mom,
I've got my mom watching your show and she loves it.
I said, the difference is I sit around with a
microphone in my underwear talking about these things. This guy
goes out and actually does it, and crawls through caves
and walks through mud and goes in the holes and
rides snowmobiles when it's thirty below zero and all this crazinesly.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
Just the evidence that you're smarter than me.
Speaker 3 (44:57):
Hey, have you ever thought about the taking a look
at ball beck.
Speaker 4 (44:59):
Lefl ball back Levin on Shore. I don't know much
about it, though.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
There are these stones there that are the biggest in
the world. I think they weigh eighteen hundred tons.
Speaker 4 (45:11):
Yes, I have heard of this, and again a story
we've never done. It's so funny. When we started all
of this, like I said, almost twenty years ago, is
when we started making Destination Truth. You know, the very
first thing we thought was, man, if this thing takes
off of we actually find success in this, are we
going to run out of stories?
Speaker 3 (45:26):
You know?
Speaker 4 (45:26):
Are there really that many mysteries in the world? Yep,
it is a bottomless hole. So there's another one that
like a place I've not really spent any time, a
story we've not done added to the list. It goes
up on the corkboard.
Speaker 3 (45:37):
If you've run out of stories, all you got to
do is come back to Contact in the desert, spend
one day there. You'll have sixty stories. When you leave there,
you go big time. I mean, that's the truth.
Speaker 4 (45:49):
I'm so excited about the event, by the way. I'm
excited to come out there and hang out and meet everybody.
I'm really looking forward to it.
Speaker 3 (45:54):
I cannot get over how many of our speakers have
been on your show that you've met, from Jimmy Churr
to Ben Hansen, Nick Pope, Jeremy Corbel, James Fox. All
these guys are there and they've been on your show
as well. It's going to be a big reunion. It's
gonna be fun. Yeah, I think so too. I'm really
looking forward to it. We're out of time here, brother,
but thanks a lot for taking the time. I know
(46:15):
you're busy there in Egypt, and we really appreciate that.
We're all looking forward to your keynote address and your
appearance at Contact.
Speaker 4 (46:22):
Yeah, it's going to be great. We're going to talk
about some of the mysteries here on expedition and known
I'm excited to give people an exclusive peek at some
of the stuff we're doing that nobody else has seen yet,
and also to talk more about some of these other
stories that we've investigated in the past around UFOs, which
I think will be really interesting.
Speaker 3 (46:38):
Very exciting. You can find Josh on any of those
shows anything hen in Discovery Channel. You can find me
