Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now here's a highlight from Coast to Coast am on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
In your circles, in your world that you live in,
I'm guessing it looks a lot different than the world
I live in. What I see and what you see,
are they two different things?

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Yes? Probably. But I do have this great, big thing
I call an on and off switch. Since I've been
seeing this world since I was a little kid, and
I don't want to go to the grocery store and
see somebody's dead mother or dead grandmother and wants to
I have when I was a little bitty thing, I
created this off switch so then I could see everything
just like everybody else. And then when I turn it on,

(00:36):
it makes it that much stronger. I actually think kids
are born with it. It just gets taught out of
us in our modern, western, non mystical, complete left brain
focused world. You know. That's why even shows like Coast
to Coast is great, because it makes people think. It
makes people wonder.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
You know.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Speaking of the off switch, I am married, and my
wife believes I'm able to switch off my hearing ability,
which I think as a man.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
It's an easy thing for me to do.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Sometimes I don't know if it's like that where you're
just basically able to filter out things in order to survive.
Meaning if you would just be overloaded, your senses would
just be tingling all the time. But you have to
learn how to filter out those things in order to
have a sane life.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Completely. I literally picture an old fashioned light switch on off.
When I was a little kid, I used to stick
my thumb under my fingers, kind of like you're sucking
your thumb with the rest of your hand. But I
don't have to do that anymore. But yeah, because most
mediums are most people who can see spirits and talk
to spirits are impaths as well. So I don't want

(01:40):
to take on, you know, the guy walking next to
me his headache or the lady's angst next door, because
that's what an EmPATH does. So you definitely need that
on off switch. Once you get fancy with it, then
you could have like a dimmer switch, you know, but
start out.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
With on off it.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
So the things you see, is it like shopping at
a store where you can look at the different shels
and just kind of observe what's there, or can you
hone in on something somewhere else? So for example, and
this is an example, our producer brought up Ozzy Osbourne
passes away this week. Can you think to yourself, I
want to try to reach out to Ozzie wherever he

(02:17):
is well.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
I would not do that for forty days, but yes
I do. I mean that's why people like me on
paranormal shows. I can find the spirits, call in spirits,
bring spirits. I would not do Ozzy Osbourne for forty
days though. That's the transition period. It's the time you
need to leave them alone. It's the time to stay
home like candles put their pictures out. You know. It's

(02:42):
actually it's a planetary thing, the forty days. But think
about it. It's used in religion all the time. Moses
forty days, Jesus forty days, Noah forty days, lent Us
forty days. So I after forty days, I would love
to contact Ozzie.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Yes, wow, okay, So what happens in that forty day
period when you're that spirit.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
I think they're just busy transitioning. It's kind of like
that liminal space in between here and there. So camp, yeah,
it's good camp. See, I don't know my best thing.
I mean I've been talking to dead people since I
could talk. They are fine. You know, death is hardest
on those left living because we're the ones that everything
has changed. Like you read those twenty thousand books by

(03:27):
people who died, but spirit or God made them come back.
None of them wanted to come back as a rule.
It's like he was so pretty there, but they made
me come back. But I think not having this little
meat suit is a good thing once we're done with it.
But what happens there, I think is supposed to be
a mystery. My biggest belief system. I study religion, philosophy, science,

(03:49):
it called science is kind of I think the ancient
Sumerians kind of had it down and their belief system
was kind of like you go to and create the
after life you believe in. If you're looking for the
Pearly gates, you're going to get the pearly gates, reincarnation,
just being part of the great, the great consciousness, the
Acotic records, kind of like the matrix. You know, Well, there.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Would have to be some people surprised, right, Can can
everyone be satisfied with what happens next?

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Well? You know, probably not, probably maybe Again, I'm not
a heaven or a hell kind of gal. But you know,
you see some of those spooky movies that somebody bad dies,
it looks pretty scary.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Well, you just came out with the book last month, Dollkraft,
which is Guy to Pop It, Magic and Haunted Dolls.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
How's the reception been so far?

Speaker 3 (04:40):
It has been great. It has been so much fun.
The sales have been really well, you know, doing lots
of podcasts and things. But I'm also getting invited to
do wonderful things like I just found out. We haven't
even announced this yet, so don't tell anybody. I'm going
to be doing a Haunted Doll tea party at the

(05:00):
Lizzie Borden House in Massachusetts. I mean, how cool is that?
You know, taken it on the road because dolls have
never been I mean, dolls have always been popular, Haunted dolls,
magical dolls have always been popular, but not like they
are now. I mean, I've never my dad, I couldn't
have seen having a doll collection. Now, I know as

(05:22):
many men and women, grown adult men and women with
full on doll collections haunted and otherwise than ever that
I've heard about, you know, in hollywood'stud that all the movies, Annabelle,
the Chucky, the Megan, Peggy, the Doll. You know, the
haunted dolls are very famous.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Well, when when I have them, they're called action figures
growing up.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
But take out a spirit too.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
So Massachusetts is quite the place to take the show
and kind of show your craft when you have those
historical areas, areas that have been around for a long time.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
Is there more activity in those spots.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yes, it's amazing, and it's different activity because I'm out west.
I'm in California, Los Angeles, so we're not that old.
When I would go to the older haunted places, it's
almost always a mining town. So you go to Virginia,
Virginia City or Nevada City or Vulture City or Butte,
and the spirits you're got to get there are the

(06:26):
spirits that went there, kind of big gruff miners and
the strong women who are going to go out on
their own. But when you get back East, you get
the whole thing, like go to Gettysburg, Oh my god,
I don't think you even have to be an intuitor
to feel the sadness, to feel the energy, to feel
the battles that go on and again. Back east you

(06:47):
have houses from the fifteen hundreds and sixteen hundreds. So
it is very different because big in life, big in death.
You know Bob the quiet banker, you know working at
you know, Bank of Fred, He's got to be Bob
the quiet goes you know, some big old well rock
star or civil war hero or even minor big in life,

(07:08):
big in death, they're going to be much bigger spirits
on the other side.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
So, speaking of doll craft, what is it about dolls?
When you talk about spirits and you're able to, I
guess see things that other people can't see.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
The vessel of a doll? What is why a doll?

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Because they have faces of course everything you think it is.
Just think about it. If you were a disembodied spirit
and you felt like having a vessel, you know, there's
a doll doll there with eyes and ears and nose
and mouth, and then there's a stapler. Which do you
think you'd want to inhabit the doll? The doll because

(07:50):
then people can look at you and you could put
your energy out. Because I'm sitting behind me right now, no,
I can see that I have a little line of
dolls and my one doll Ell who's over one hundred
years old. Her face hasn't moved it over one hundred years.
It's porcelain. But everyone sees her move her face, everyone
sees her wink. Everybody who comes in can tell her

(08:11):
mood person after person, like three people in a row,
Bill's happy today, next day, three people in a row. Oh,
Bill's cranky today.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
You know.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
And you can't do that if you inhabit a stabler.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Yeah, I understand that.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
And people can find you online, by the way, in
your book, it's just your name, right, Pattynegre dot com.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Yeah, Pattiegrew dot com. You can find more than you
ever want to know about me.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
Ah yeah, yeah, Well, I think that's one of the
good things. You're accessible. I know people always have questions.
And from what I understand in the second hour of
the show tonight, you've agreed to do some readings for listeners.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Is that right?

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Sure?

Speaker 4 (08:49):
It could be fun.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Yeah. What I don't understand is I think about myself
right now, and I think, after a long life that
you hit the row ward of heaven. What is the
use in coming back and interacting with people on earth?
Why would I want to do that. I want to
move on, But why would some people stay? Why do

(09:11):
you think some people do that?

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Well, I think that there is no time and space.
On the other side, I think that you can move
on if you believe in the pearly gates. You are
in the heaven's pearly dates. I think you could be reincarnated.
And at the same time, I want to watch those
grandkids grow up, because that's so Most hauntings aren't negative.
Most people aren't negative. It's like the spirit of Grandma

(09:34):
watching how your mothering skills are, watching the little ones
grow up.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
But it's interesting.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yeah, So I speaking of people, I think the way
kids understand things are different than adults, but they have
a much different understanding. I think it almost in a
better way, a more pure way. Do you think kids
understand this better than adults?

Speaker 3 (09:58):
One hundred percent? Because because they we have to as adults,
we have to step out of our left brain logic.
We have to and kids can do that better. They
have that imagination, they play, they make believe, which we
should all do. We the last I don't know how
many years, all our complete focus has been on left

(10:18):
brain logic, not our right intuitive, creative artistic spiritual side,
and we need that to well both for our creativity,
and we have to dance between because our left brain
logic is gonna just shut down that magical, intuitive or
mediumship side. Like if you have like, wow, I'm thinking

(10:39):
about Grandma right now. I feel Grandma's beside me. Just
go with it. Grandma's standing behind me. Just say hey,
Grandma's that you I don't know, make this candlelight dance
or you know, let me light some incense and see
you waft at this direction. But as a rule your
left brain, Grandma's not behind me. Somebody just opened the window.
It's just just say yes to it. Just say okay,
maybe Grama you're here. If you are, send me a

(11:01):
message of some site you know. If you want to
analyze it, wait two hours, analyze it. Then oh it
was just an digestion. It wasn't Grandma. But the more
we open it up, it's going to help both sides.
A perfect example just why we need that creative side
of our brain is my local school here in Hollywood.
It's a beautiful, little hundred year old school that no

(11:24):
one sent their kids to because it was horrible. It
was the lowest percentile of Los LAUSD, which wasn't particularly great,
so the people from the Kills couldn't send their kids there,
so they had to go to private school. And we
didn't want it to go to private school. We wanted
to go to our urban regular public school. So we
did not change the and the reading and math scores

(11:46):
were horrible. We didn't change the reading and math teachers.
We brought in art classes, dance classes, gardening, photography, improv
and guess what, their math and spelling and reading, writing
and arithmetic went up. We became a school of excellence
in two years because we have Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
I think that that type of attention will help anyone flourish.
So when you were younger, you said you noticed these things.
Were there people that were encouraging you? And were there
also people that were discouraging you?

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Yeah, no one discouraged me. I was great. My mom
would always go yeah, Grammy did that too. Yeah, Grandma
could see that too. I think I probably get it
from both sides of my family, though my family didn't
live into it. My dad came from Turkey and the
whole Middle Eastern side of the things. But my grandfather
was this famous atheist humanist psycho, very famous psychoanalyst who

(12:47):
was very academic and scientific in his work. Though I
read his books now it's like, well, Grandpa, you believe
the same thing I do. You just don't use spiritual
or magical or religious words. You just use science words.
But my mom's side came from that whales in Ireland,
and it just didn't get taught out of me. It
wasn't like, oh, that's your imaginary friend, Bobby. Yeah, we

(13:09):
have imaginary friends and those are great, but they're not
all imaginary friends. So luckily caught out of me. Plus
I didn't have any weird because of my grandfather. I
wasn't raised with this is dark or this is evil,
and you know, any weird religious overtones that it was
anything negative.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Do you ever witness something, a spirit or whatever it
may be, right before you know something's about to happen,
So a reoccurring spirit that indicates something in the future
is about to.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Happen, Well, no, I honestly doesn't happen that way.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
But like my mom, come tell me like you're gonna
run that red lighter. No, no, I mean not saying
it doesn't people have that. But again I think ause
I walk around with my off switch on most of
the time unless I am actually working or working with
spirit on my own or working with clients or doing
a paranormal investigation or a seance or mediumship. But you

(14:08):
can get that you do have premonitions. You could say, well,
you know, maybe I shouldn't take the car today, maybe
I'm gonna home. But I haven't necessarily had a spirit
come and tell me that, like a living spirit, like
a deceased ghost, maybe a spirit guide who just puts
the thought into my head.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
I'm interested to In the Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures, people
love you on that, by the way, I mean the reaction.
They just absolutely love that show. So our spirits. Do
they get attracted to cameras? Do they like the equipment?
Do some of them, I guess flee from it? Is
there different reactions to it? Are they just indifferent to it?

Speaker 3 (14:52):
Just like people. Some people see a TV or movie crew,
they're going to run from it. Half will be intrigued
by it. Some want to get on camera. Spirits are
exactly the same.
