Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the almost famous podcast with I our radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Welcome christ Souls to the almost famous OG podcast.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
I'm already live.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
We are live. That's what happened. Yeah, you know you're
an od when you're like, wait, is this scene working?
Speaker 1 (00:20):
I have the camera facing front words or outwards.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
No, you're great, You're great. It really truly has been
so long. I feel like it was when Lauren and
Ben were together and all three of you came. I
don't think anyone else was with you, but the three
of you came to the house, and Blakesley, my daughter,
was like just in awe of Lauren showing her all
her stuffed animals. I don't know if you remember that,
(00:46):
Yes I do. So how is life good?
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Good? Yeah, just busy. We're in harvest season, so yeah,
I've got a lot of irons in the fire, but
doing well.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
I bet are you in is it Iowa?
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Yeah, okay, so you just went back to farming like.
I love that. Have they ever asked you to be
on that farmer show?
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Yeah? I think they have. I mean they were sort
of reached out, I think, and I noticed it in
my DMS. They reached out just to have me go
through casting or something. But no, I not exactly, but
I've been Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
No more of that, no more reality shows.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
No, I don't. I'm not super motivated to. You know,
it's all right, I'm doing good. Real life is all right.
It's tough enough.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
So I mean, like stuff, you're so right, Yeah, agreed.
I think we're the same, you know, like we've been
asked over the years, you know, to do reality shows,
and we're like, yeah, you know, we're good, We're good.
We're just gonna yeah, we'll do a podcast every now
and then.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
But right, it's a little more palatable. Yeah, I mean
it's yeah, No, I'm my life is like a reality
television show in itself, I think some days so I
have I'm yeah, but keeping the wheels on the bus
with everything that I've got going on is yeah, it's great.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
So okay, so the big question are you dating? Are
you single?
Speaker 1 (02:22):
I am single?
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah, definitely single.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, I'm definitely single. You know, of course, I'm always
looking to not be single in due time. You know.
I think it's a God's plan, you know. Yeah, yeah,
I'm I've been going through a lot of transitional things
(02:48):
that with with work and with business and I've been
focusing a lot on that, you know currently, and but yeah,
I'm always the goal is not to be single for
the rest of my life, so hopefully what can make
that happen sooner.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Than you're Oh? I mean, like you said, God's plan,
and I believe everything happens for a reason. It'll happen
when it's supposed to, right.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Good. I love hearing that. Okay, So we share something
else besides The Bachelor in common Dancing with the Stars,
And have you been watching this season, because we've been
recapping every week, so I'd love to get your thoughts
on that if you're up for it.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Yeah, I was able to watch last night. I'm a
little behind, but I was able to watch last night.
And yeah, boy, I'm impressed. Right, so many good dancers,
and Joey and Jen are just like Joey, We're in
the hell. I mean, that's pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
So, yes, I love it this season. I have taken
breaks here and there, off and on, and I have
to say, I really, true, really believe this is such
a talented cast. I don't know how they're gonna cut
it down. I mean, obviously they have, like, yeah, like
(04:09):
the boats and that's very black and white, you know,
but I would hate to be a judge.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Yeah, no, I I agree, it's fun to It was
fun to watch. I'm excited to continue watching. It's some
real talent out there.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
So are you still in touch with Whitney?
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah? You know, I mean we we stay in touch
via social media and I mean, and I hope you know,
I like to try to get out there once in
a while and see everybody. I mean, as you know,
it kind of becomes a little small family out there.
So love her to death. We don't we don't talk
a ton obviously, we don't have it. She doesn't. You know,
(04:46):
it's not a lot to talk about. I'm not much
of a dancer anymore, and she's not much of a farmer.
So oh, we don't have a ton of things in common.
But I'd love her to death like a little sister.
But yeah, I try to say it.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
That I love her. I think she is. She's one
of my all time like favorite pros. Her and Jenna
who's with Joey. I just they are just so much
fun to watch, and she is looking so breaking hot
(05:20):
right now. It is like the body after baby. Oh
my gosh, like it is amazing to me. She she
definitely is. I just love watching her. Would you go
back on the show if they asked you to do
like an all star season?
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yeah, you would. My mind would do it in the heartbeat.
I don't know what my body would say about it,
but I would be in might answer and the corner
zone on standby, but I would definitely do my best.
I'd be looking more like oh probably with looking like
(06:04):
a different version of myself, but I've got old football
player injuries. They're starting to creep up on me. But
believing things. But yeah, now I would. That was one
of the greatest experiences I've ever had being on that.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Oh oh, I love that.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
What did you do?
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Where did you finish?
Speaker 1 (06:22):
I think sixth or fifth? Fifth? I was above five hundred.
I remember because it was twelve and I was. I
was the fifth. Robert Herszebk finished right behind me.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
I have always said that I finished sixth because on
our show there were only six people and I was
the first voted off.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
There were only six on your there.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Were only six of us.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Wow, it was the first season, so you know, they
they didn't know if it was going to be something
that people would be interested in watching in America. You know,
it was overseas it was very popular, which is where
it came from. But but yeah, they only had people.
So I almost tied you.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
He did you basically? You did? That's I had no
idea that you were the first in the first season.
That's amazing, such an icon.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Oh yeah, no, thank you, You're very sweet. I feel
like I got a call from Andrea Wong, who was
an ABC exec for like their unscripted And when you
get a call from Andrea Wong, you listen and you
(07:33):
say yes, ma'am, you know I mean, and so I
felt like she was like, Okay, we're going to do
this show. And I was like, okay, I have no
idea what I'm getting in there, just like you're going
to know. Of course, she explained it, yes, but I
was just kind of like, okay, whatever. Like at that point,
(07:55):
the ballroom was not very popular, at least in my
circles in the United States. I knew I knew so
little about ballroom dancing, and I just thought, okay, wow,
I mean I love to dance, but let's see how
this goes. So I'm just glad they are still on
(08:16):
the air. It's just crazy to me that it has
evolved like this.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
Yeah, I mean it's doing really well still. I mean
like it's gonna it's like the all time most watched
reality show ever, isn't it at this point? Is it?
Speaker 2 (08:30):
I did not know that.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Well, don't take don't quote me on that, but it's
very one of the longest running. I think it's the
longest running reality television show. Should google that one where
I say it out loud?
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Yeah, Hannah, can you google that? Is it the longest running?
I don't think it's the longest running because The Bachelor
was longer than it.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Or maybe the most part I don't know.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Oh, but you're right, Like, if it's international, then yes,
you very well. Like I think they called it, what
was it called in the UK? Simply gone something dancing,
simply ballroom maybe or oh Hannah, Hannah is good at
this stuff. When I asked her a question, she's like, oh, okay,
(09:18):
So if they do have an all star season and
they ask you who would you want to be partnered with, well, that.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Would be have to be Whitney if if she was
an option, I mean, that would be my request, but.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Okay, good, Yes, yeah I love that. But yeah, I
don't know if you felt this way when I was
on Dancing with the Stars, and yes, it was brand news,
so it had never been done before. I didn't know
what to expect. But it was hard for me to
get into like feeling comfortable with like being like ex
(09:53):
sensual with someone I didn't know. Did you have like
as a guy, do you guys have like that, like
this is uncomfortable or you're like, yeah, I'm here for it.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
You know, it's a great question. I honestly, it was
so hard, you know, for me physically and like mentally,
I couldn't think about being anything. But you know what
my next step was what how to count into the music?
I mean, yeah, I had so much other stuff on
my mind to worry about. Let it. Sensuality was like
(10:27):
the whatever, I'm like, I'm just frightened. I was literally
like horrified the entire time. Just it was super stressful.
So there was nothing sensual about the way I was
out When I was it was it was like, just
don't look like an idiot.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Oh right, oh yeah, I think all of us have that. Sorry,
my daughter's trying to call all of us have that
thought like, just don't look like an idiot.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Please don't forget your step, don't forget your music, and
try not to count to the music while I mean,
I my biggest struggle was I've never really done anything
with musicality. You know, I've never organized musicality or with
like I've never I took one class, a band class,
and I walked. You know, that was it for me.
(11:16):
I couldn't had no interest and it just never had
had any of that to count music, so it was super,
super tough. So and then let alone doing the steps
and at the same time as trying to stay with
the music. I mean, I can under I can have
enough rhythm to follow music naturally, but counting it is
a whole different learning curve for a person with a
(11:38):
very low IQ. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
No, I totally understand that. It's like it's like a
job for these professionals. You know, they have spent their
life training for it. So I totally understand that if
you had never had to count music or remember choreography,
it's it's not easy. It is not easy. And then
you throw in the live, live show of it all,
(12:01):
and the people who are in the audience like staring
you down, you know, it's hard, and then the judges
and all of it. Who who is your favorite right now?
I know you watched last night, but maybe you were
playing catch up. Who do you if you had to
pick a final three right now? Who would be your
final grade?
Speaker 1 (12:22):
You know? I huh, Joey was pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Yeah he was. He crushed it last night and he
has been crushing it every week.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
The guy can move and yeah, you know, and he's
got a great following.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
So, and I think Jen was awesome too. I think
she'll go far and then I'm not gonna the blonde gal.
She was really good too. I mean it's just that
there's a handful. I mean, I don't know, I just
I haven't watched enough, but that those would be you
know that off the top of my head, Jen and
(13:01):
I think Jen and Joe will be the part of
the top three. I would say, I love it.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Okay, So have you talked to anyone from Bachelor Nation lately?
Do you stay in touch with anybody?
Speaker 1 (13:21):
You know, stay in touch? Just kind of nothing. I've
been super busy, so it's been you know, with Harvest
coming on, we've been uh, just drowning and getting a
lot of doing a lot of restructuring internally. So I
know my Bluke pel who just recently got engaged.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Okay, cool, I didn't know that. Yeah yeah, so was
he on your the season of Like how do you
know him from your seasons or from just meeting him?
Speaker 1 (13:57):
We just crossed paths through through doing actually through amy honestly,
that was Yeah, that's how we I met him. But yeah,
we know, we were not on any shows together at all,
so we just literally cross paths. I think the first
time we met might have been in Lake Tahoe.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Oh yeah, are so fun?
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeah, yeah, No, him and I share a lot in common,
just he kind of was a country boy from Texas
and sad. A lot of similarities on on you know,
our upbringing. So yeah, but no, I mean I try
to stay in touch, but just haven't not on a
huge regular basis, and just yeah, different directions.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Life is busy. What about Ben Higgins? Have you talked
to him lately? I haven't.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
I haven't. I mean the last I feel like we've
talked it was at Next Wedding. All the guys were
there this last summer at Next Wedding so, yeah, I
saw a bunch of bunch of people there, and I
don't know. Again, my memory is so bad trist that
it's like I feel like we talk, but we just
you know, it's like everything passes by. But I think
(15:12):
that was the last time I saw a bunch of
people saw I kind of reached out to Nick here
not too long ago. It was in Chicago, and reached
out to him, and so, yeah, just here and there
they're all in my heart, you know, in my mind.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Yeah, of course. So are you going to keep watching
Dancing with the Stars?
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Yeah, I might have to. I might. I'm gonna have
to DVR it or something. I recorded it last night
so I could. I got a recording, so now I
can if I get home late, I can tune in.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
You can have something to do other than Harvest.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Are you an avid fan? Do you stay on top
of it?
Speaker 2 (15:54):
I have not been, but but this season I am.
I mean, we're recapping it every week, so I, you know,
have a reason other than just wanting to like escape
my own life and watch something fun on television. But yeah,
I will be watching. It has totally drawn me in.
I feel like there is such talent, you know, Bob
(16:17):
and I will talk, so we'll recap the episodes and
we talk about like who who we think is the top?
You know, who we think is maybe the bottom. But
I feel like there's so many people in the middle,
like Stephen and Phedra and Alona and Brooks and like
all these people who are so great. Their partnerships are incredible.
(16:42):
They are being vulnerable, like Alona last night about how
she was, you know, she had a hard time with
how she made, you know, some mistakes in her routine,
and like, I love how vulnerable she was. Like, there
are so many people in like that middle range where
you're not saying, oh, they're definitely going to the finale,
you know that I want to root for because they're
(17:06):
they all, they all are bringing so much to the table,
whether it's danceability or or chemistry or vulnerability or just
like getting to know them, you know, Like I don't know,
I'm loving the season.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
It is great. You know, the show just in general
is great. I mean it brings out such I mean
after they eliminated, the emotion, I mean I felt such
emotion when I was eliminated, Like it just changes you.
You know, It's really a great experience, and then just
it's such a foreign experience to even celebrities have been
(17:43):
acting and all that stuff, and just to see people
really work hard that really aren't that good, like I
wasn't that good. And and but you get out there
and you freaking do it. You know, it's you just
do it. It's cool. You know, it's just a neat,
neat show. It's makes me mess being out there. Do
you ever get do you get back?
Speaker 2 (18:03):
I have only I went back for I feel like
it was before any other people from the Bachelor went
on the show. So it was like one hundredth episode
that I went back for, and it was forever ago,
so I haven't in so long. My daughter is actually
so we went to the Golden Wedding with Gary and Teresa.
(18:26):
I took my whole family there and we met or
I introduced her to Robert Mills Millsy who's an ABC
Zech and we were started talking about Dancing with the Stars,
and I'm like, you know, I've got a dancer right
here that you know she would love to be on
Dancing with the Stars Juniors if you ever do it again?
(18:47):
I mean, how much as a mom like it would
be such a full circle, fun moment for me to
have my daughter be on the show.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
But yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Love it. I love I love the experienial things in life.
You know that we've both been very lucky. I feel
like that we've gotten to do some pretty cool things
in terms of like once in a lifetime like that
not everyone gets to do, and it does not fall
short on me. I'm very grateful for The Bachelor, you know,
(19:20):
casting me originally, and then the Bachelorette and then Dancing
with the Stars and you know, lots of other fun stuff,
but definitely feel very grateful.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Yeah. No, it was just such a great experience. I
mean that it was like going from The Bachelor to
Dancing with the Stars was like, you know, such a
reverse of like it's such a different experience in so
many ways. Just it was kind of a refreshing experience
for me just being able to you know, the competitiveness
(19:50):
of it and it's emotional and competitive at the same time.
It's like, you know, as an athlete, I embraced the
competitive side. But then going out, I've never been in
front of a live audience like that. That was your
first performance. I mean, that's was like, oh.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
I know, yeah, you're so, do you feel like that
was the hardest part of the show, the live audience for.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
You, it really kind of uh, you know, because you rehearse.
For me, it was one of the hardest parts my
first performance, especially first and second, I still didn't I
couldn't get accustomed to it. I mean, it was all hard.
I mean, the dancing is super hard, and then you
layer in, you know, you perform in a quiet space
for for you know, for two for a week at
(20:37):
a time, and then you have to jump in and
throw you into it a little tiny room with how
you know, three levels of people that are screaming on
the other You can't you know, like you could. I
couldn't even hear the music sometimes, you know, it was
just so much going on in my head. But yeah,
that it was all super hard, and then that that
(20:58):
was just like another nail in the coffin for me.
That but towards the end you started to get accustomed
to it. But but just fun to put yourself out there.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
And yeah, yeah, you're right. It is part of like
the hardest part of it and kind of the most
fun part of it is just doing something out of
your comfort zone, you know, doing something that you never
thought you would be doing. So you know, kudos. Hopefully
they'll don't. I don't think I'll be being asked to
(21:28):
be All Stars if they ever do an All Stars
just because gosh. I mean, like you were talking about injuries.
I remember being on the show and complaining about my back,
like we had this big dip and I was like, oh,
I can't do that, And about ten years later, I
ended up having a fusion in my back because so bad.
(21:51):
But yeah, just as you get older, I mean, it's
just what happens. We all kind of fall apart. I
just don't know if I could keep up. But I
do give kudos to the people like Eric and Reggie
who Reginald who got out there and tried their best
(22:12):
and you know, their best wasn't as good as Chandler's
or Joey's, but I love that they just gave it
a shot. You know.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
No, it's super cool to to, uh, to see people
and then you know, just really give their all and
their physically just can't quite do it. But man, it's uh,
it's hard to like you know, without having done it,
like if you know, after doing it and then watching
them out there, I mean, it sort of still looks
They still make it look so easy, you know, if
(22:43):
you don't people have done it before. Yeah, it's like
a whole you know that all that stuff. For me,
it was super hard and I was you know, but yeah,
just remembering all that stuff, regardless of your athletic ability,
it's just uh, just tough, but such a mental and
emotional challenge.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Yeah, it's a lot. I Yeah, I feel like they,
like you said, they make it look easy, and it's
because they've been practicing, you know, for hours and hours
and hours, but they do make it look easy. I
love watching and I'm so glad this has kind of
brought me back to it because I hadn't watched like
(23:23):
a couple of years. So since Caitlin's season, I tuned
in for that of course. But yeah, it's it's a
great show. I love that it's getting me to be
able to talk to you again.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Yeah, you know, absolutely, absolutely no, it was a pleasant
surprise when they asked me to come on. It's great
to I'm grateful for the opportunity. So nice to see
and hear from you.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Well, I know that Bob would have loved to be here,
and so he says hello, but thank you so much
for coming on the almost Famous OG podcast, and I'm
sure we'll be calling you again, so all right, I
want to chat again.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
All right, well you take care of Tobabo said hi
and God bless.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Thank you, good luck with harvest. Yes, thank you if
that's what you say, is that what you say? Like,
what do you say that is that works?
Speaker 1 (24:15):
We need all the luck we can get. We need
all the luck we can get. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
Okay, bye, Chris, thank you
