Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's Almost Famous podcast. We are here today to break
down some breaking news with m Bachelor Nation. It's very
exciting news. It's season two of The Golden Bachelor, and tonight,
thanks to all the kind people over at ABC, we
get to know who our next Golden Bachelor is. His

(00:28):
name is mel Owens. Then you might hear that name
and you go, that sounds familiar. It makes sense that
it does. Mel Owens has a terrific let's call it
a resume. Here's what US Weekly says. ABC announced on Tuesday,
April twenty second that mel Owens, a sixty six year

(00:52):
old former NFL veteran turned lawyer. Some people have it all.
We'll star on season two of The Golden Bachelor. Yes,
you heard that right. This guy is a former lineman
at the University of Michigan. Was the ninth overall pick
in the nineteen eighty one NFL draft. I wasn't born yet,

(01:17):
but it doesn't mean this guy is not a stud.
He grew up in the Midwest from Detroit, Michigan. He's
handsome and now let's say he's athletic and smart. Because
after his NFL career, because he spent nine seasons with
the Los Angeles Rams, Mel retired and he transitioned into
being an attorney. He lives in Orange County, California, and

(01:44):
one of the things he says he loves to do
is dedicate himself to helping others, particularly though seeking justice
for sports related injuries. Mel was previously married. They shared
two sons together. Now mel has been through it here
as of recent his marriage has ended and his father

(02:08):
has passed away. But that didn't keep mel Owens down because,
as he says, and I quote, he channeled his energy
into being the best father he could be, focusing on
raising his sons and coaching in sports. Now, after several
years as of devoted dad, Owens is ready to rediscover

(02:29):
a love rooted in the simple joys of you guessed it,
companionship and sharing life's everyday moments. Here's what I think.
I think Melowans is a great choice. Goodness gracious, Can
we get any better? I mean, I thought Gary was
a home run, and he was he is. But mel Owens,

(02:53):
if you look at his picture, he looks like a
kind fella, sounds like he's a kind fella. He's dedicated
his life to helping others. He played nine seasons in
the NFL, played at the University of Michigan. Is a Midwesterner,
which I gotta love and respect. I I wasn't gonna

(03:16):
be shocked if the Golden Bachelor world could find themselves
a great next Golden Bachelor lead. That wasn't gonna be
shocking to me, because I think it's a still probably
the most coveted leadership role within the franchise. I don't
know if being the Bachelor or bachelotte right now is
a great choice for anybody, but I think being the

(03:38):
Golden Bachelor is a terrific choice. Being the Golden Bachelorette
it then comes close second. Mel Owens, I believe, is
gonna find his level in this show. I see in
his eyes. I think his heart's ready. I think the
ladies are already signing up like crazy. How could they not?

(03:59):
My Buddy's any kind of joke around. Some people have
it all. Some people have it all. Some people have
the good looks, the athleticism, the smarts, the intelligence, the charisma,
the compassion, the character. And I'll tell you this, mel
Owens has it. We'll be tuning in here at the
Almost Famous podcast for The Golden Bachelor, where I think

(04:23):
we're still waiting on an announcement date for the first
episode to air, but as soon as we hear that,
we'll be sure to share it with all of you.
But here's the cool part again. ABC has officially announced
as of today, April twenty second, that Mel Owens, a

(04:44):
sixty six year old former NFL veteran turned lawyer and
handsome man, will star on season two of the Golden
Bachelor as our bachelor until next time, I've been Ben,
We'll talk to you soon.
