Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's almost Famous podcast. We're here today with one of
our favorite people in the world, uh, Susan Knowles. Susan,
we have so much talk to you about, but I'm
gonna kick it off with this. I just interviewed Demy
about the show you both were on, Got to Get Out.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Yes, she said you were her comfort? Is her? Ohoat?
That true?

Speaker 4 (00:24):
I was her mommy, I adopted her.

Speaker 5 (00:26):
What they didn't show was me on my hands and
knees begging her for forgiveness because I didn't ask.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
Her to escape with me once time she got upset,
she was good. She is just too cute. She's Barbie.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
She is Barbie. Put her in a box.

Speaker 6 (00:43):
She is so freaking cute. Okay. So, for those of
you who haven't listened to the Demi interview that Ben did,
Got to Get Out is a Hulu show, and Clara's
on it, Susan's on it, and Debbie's on So those
are our people, along with a whole bunch of other
A list reality stars and some random people. And it's

(01:04):
a competition to win as much money as possible. But
like you do so by escaping a house.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
Well, you get a clue.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
You need a clue, your clue.

Speaker 6 (01:16):
Wait, why do you need a clue to escape the house?

Speaker 4 (01:18):
Well, you can't just escape, So all the windows are
locked and you go.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
Into this ticket room and they either they say no
exit strategy or you get a clue, which I happened
to get quite a few screwed them up, but like.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
A lot of them, you're good at this stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
I mean, this is obviously a whole new We've been
around you a lot of the last year and a
half since you've been on the show. This is obviously,
I think your first time entering into another reality show. Yes, yes,
Demy had great things to say about this show. But
from your experience, how was this show different than The Bachelor?

Speaker 4 (01:58):
For starters, they were way more lenient.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
We would get our phone in the afternoon for like
twenty minutes to check in with family or agents or whatever.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Yeah, it was. It was chill.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
It was so fun and I wasn't competing for a
man and to find love. I was making meatballs and
dancing with val from Dancing with the Stars.

Speaker 6 (02:22):
Yeah, when you're not escaping, like, what are you doing?

Speaker 5 (02:25):
You're watching the windows to see if somebody else is So,
if you watch the show towards the end, after I
tell Rashan he's dead, to me, I go, all right,
people haven't seen the side of me. I'm playing defense
because nobody's getting out now, because I have the chance
to split.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
The money at the end. Yeah, now I flew. I'm
the oldest person in the house. I went from the
roof through one hundred.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
And ninety degree attic, down two flights of stairs to
hit that button because nobody was going to escape.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
It's amazing to me this kince of the show. Demmy
described it terrifically. The concept of the show. That was fun,
that's like hearted. That drama isn't the focused of what
is aired on television. She did add something interesting to me.
She said that there it was a dry house, no.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Alcohol involved, no alcohol none.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
How did you feel about that?

Speaker 5 (03:17):
That didn't bother me, although I had to have something
brought in because I made chicken pikati and I need
white wine.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
And what's her name, Jim? What the house was?

Speaker 5 (03:25):
She was like she was going through convulsions, and I said,
come here, come in the kitchen, sneak.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
A little.

Speaker 6 (03:33):
All right, that's so interesting. Why would they make it
dry For a reality show, sometimes you need a little
something to spice it up.

Speaker 5 (03:41):
Yeah, well it was spiced up because you start as
friends and then you start second guessing people, and then
I just remember calling somebody Judas.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Because it sounds amazing.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
It was.

Speaker 5 (03:55):
I had a blessed so I didn't understand. When they
do their edit, that's their business. But all of our challenges,
I wish those challenges were sure you would not believe
what we did.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
I don't know if I'm allowed to say what we did,
so I'll try. Yeah, we'll try tell us something. I
straight jackets. That's what I'll tell you.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah, yeah, it's perfect.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Now you have you gotta get out of them. Locked
up with Demi, we were the third pair to get
out too.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
You know what, I hated all these women that were
on the show, especially that Athena. I mean that body
she was, the way she dressed. She came up to
me a couple of nights before it was over, saying,
why doesn't anybody pick me? She comes to breakfast, we're
all having coffee and the guys and Morosa.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
In the morning, she comes walking.

Speaker 5 (04:51):
I go, that's why you got stilettos on a skin
tight neglige.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
Where the hell are you running? Go on? Where's your sneakers?
So I paid attention to my packing list. It was mortified.
Every woman on there.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
Looked amazing, not me. I had do rad sneakers. I
was ready to run. I didn't know what I was
up again. If I have to do it again, I'm
bringing the gown.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
I mean seriously.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Well, that's the beauty of this and this question is
leading us into the second chapter of what we want
to talk to you about today. But one of the
fun parts about talking to Demi was finding out who
surprised her. Now, obviously you didn't know the other contestants
when you signed up for the show. You should walk
into the mansion, you see a group full of reality

(05:41):
television rookies along with reality television a listers. Who surprised
you the most outside of Demi? Because we've talked to
Demi on your connection with them, your vibe with them.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Definitely, Val Val and I we were Bonnie and Clyde.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
When I got on the US. We weren't allowed to look.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
At anybody, and I saw him and we did one
of these each other, like the thumbs up, like I
know you.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Oh you knew him before this, Yeah, we knew. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:10):
No, I've been to Dancing with the Stars. Yeah, I've
been begging to get on that show. That's what I
put out to the universe.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Baby, all right, all right, that is coming, that is coming,
that is coming my way.

Speaker 6 (06:22):
Give me like it might be. Because we were assuming
you would be on Paradise, that would be your next step.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
But today, yes, you see why I.

Speaker 6 (06:31):
Have announced that you will not be on Paradise basically
because you have a boyfriend I do.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
I mean, is this bummy?

Speaker 5 (06:39):
It does bumm me out since I wanted to be
and see everybody, but I can't honestly say I'm looking
for love.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
I'm not. I have it. Yeah, and I waited how
long time for this?

Speaker 5 (06:51):
There's some struggles. You know, he lives far away. It's
a long distance and a language thing.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
But yeah, where does he live.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
He lives in Saint Martin. He's been there ten years.
He's from France and A means yes, I'm learning and pati.

Speaker 6 (07:11):
So you have said that there is the language barrier
and that you guys use a translator app to do
a lot of your communication.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
When we call each other every night. It's Skype. But
what Skype words? Tell me?

Speaker 5 (07:26):
I go big, you're not saying this there. I take
pictures of the words and he starts cracking up. It
doesn't work that well, but he speaks a lot of English.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Now he does really well.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
He'll get stuck here and there, but if it's something
he'll go, this is important.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
And we go and get our phones. So we make
sure we get it right. It's blasted. We laugh like crazy,
we dance like crazy.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
He's me, this is beautiful. Now. How many times have
you seen him in person?

Speaker 5 (07:58):
So I've been back since I met four times, and
I'm going back next Sunday for the fifth time.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
A lot. So I got hurt there. We were hiking.

Speaker 5 (08:09):
His son was going to surf, and you parked the
car up an on smart Sell and it's a twenty
five minute hike, not go to shape. And I'm huffing
and puffing, but I make it and almost there and
my foot I came down on a hill and my
foot hit gravel and it slid and I went to
break my fall and oh MyD ooh, just oh my darling,

(08:32):
give me your hand, I said, no, oh.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
I think I broke it.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
I broke it.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
It took an hour and ten minutes to get back
to the car to get to the hospital.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
It was a nightmare. I just said surgery. It's nuts.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
I have some good memories from Saint Martin. By the way,
there's the worst place you could go and visit somebody.
I had my It wasn't my first, but it was
my first big outing with alcohol on Orient Beach.

Speaker 4 (09:07):
I love Orient. Yeah, so what happened, Yeah, it was.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
It's a wild day, especially because it's a nude beach.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
My memory of it.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Everybody's topless there. Anyhow, it's frede.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Saint Martin is an amazing place to go visit.

Speaker 4 (09:22):
I love it. I love it.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
This makes me happy for you. But I'm really sad
we're not going to see you on other beaches.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Why, oh, flick Paradise Beach.

Speaker 6 (09:31):
You'll make an appearance.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
I just need a different show now, I mean, you
can't stop me now.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
I love this.

Speaker 6 (09:38):
I wouldn't be surprised to see you on Dancing with
the Stars, especially since you've been dance practicing with your
boyfriend who you met on Tinder and Real Vacation and.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
Naty and I went away. We go every year. I've
been going to Saint Martin every year for a long
long time. And Kathy and I this was our second year.
Nancy didn't come this year, and she went to bed.
I had an espressor Martini after dinner, and I'm laying
in bed, going, oh great, I can't sleep. I'm playing games,
and I went, let me try Tinder downloaded it first

(10:08):
one I saw swiped and I got off and I
didn't go back on it for three days. When I
did immediately, Yeah, and.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
What did he say?

Speaker 4 (10:19):
I don't remember.

Speaker 6 (10:21):
Were you scared about meeting a man on a foreign island.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Kathy was?

Speaker 5 (10:25):
She gave me a hard time girlfriend. Oh, he wasn't
allowed in the house. I made her come on the
first date to translate a little bit, because she speaks
a little bit of French. I put a video out
when those two were trying to communicate. Kathy talked to
him in Spanish, French and English, and you see Frederic
Getty Getty these one language, just one.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
And she interrupts him. It's Kathy. But she ended up.
She loves him now.

Speaker 5 (10:55):
Yeah, but it was it wasn't easy, he said, I
hope Number one do you like to dance? Number two,
I hope your French is better than my English. And
number three bring ear pods? I said, oh, I could dance,
and I have EarPods. The other so when I got there,
he took my phone, he put an app on there

(11:17):
and we communicated. Kathy left after about five to ten minutes,
and we sat for three and a half hours talking
and I finally, you know it's me, I said, Tim,
you know where I come from. When I go to
meet somebody or on a date with someone, I usually
make eye contact.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
I can't even tell you we'll color your eyes or
you start cracking up.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
I think that was the moment that we really connected
because we both thought that was funny. And he started
holding the phone up next to his ear.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
Oh it was good.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
It was good, Susan, this is incredible. Will need to
celebrate this.

Speaker 6 (11:51):
Did he know you were famous?

Speaker 4 (11:52):
No?

Speaker 5 (11:54):
No? The next day because he went over and probably
googled me. We did the WhatsApp thing and he was
sending me pictures of myself and I'm like, where, where,
what are you doing?

Speaker 4 (12:06):
Are you googling me?

Speaker 5 (12:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (12:08):
I can't I can't believe it.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
I think it's fair he has to do his research,
all right, Susan, If you had forty five seconds to
tell listeners why they should watch Got to Get Out,
what would you say?

Speaker 4 (12:26):
I can't make this shut up what I do on
that show.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
I mean, you will not even believe the stuff that
I do, and not even on purpose, like I'm just me.
So you saw me on Golden Bachelor, unapologetically authentically Susan.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
Wait till you see this one.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
I love it. That's so good.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
I Got to get Out premiered April eleventh on Hulu.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
You can find it streaming right now.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
All the episodes are out there, so go and binge it,
go and watch it one at a time. But you'll
see Susan do things that are unapologetically her and out rageous.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Has your man come to visit you yet?

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Not yet?

Speaker 5 (13:04):
Because I got hurt there and then I went to
rehab there. I mean he took care of me like
no other and he cooks like you don't know.

Speaker 4 (13:15):
Yeah, yeah, I miss you.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Guys, Appreciate you.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Bye, Susan, Bye, honey.

Speaker 6 (13:24):
Well hell people, that has been Susan Knowles one of
the most entertaining figures that have ever come into Bachelor
