Speaker 3 (00:09):
And is Ashley here today?

Speaker 2 (00:10):
We are in San Francisco with the iHeart team here
for Jonas brother concert.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
That is how Amy Sugarman got me here. She name.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Amy's like, Ashley hasn't been to the West Coast eight
or so our podcast forster Amy Sugarman, who our listeners
have been aware of for a long time.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
She doesn't fly, she hasn't flownd since nineteen ninety nine.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
We know, so, we we know, so we drive, so
she drives and we have to do like all of
our things on the West Coast. And then she was like, man, Ashley,
mom of two, hasn't been to do this for quite
some time, how do we get her to come Jonahs Brothers?
And I was like, yes, one thousand percent quickest, Yes
she's ever gotten. And I am now joined by two

(00:52):
of everybody's golden favorites, Susan Knowles and Kathy Schwartz. You guys,
well you know them from The Golden Bachelor. You know
Kathy from well being a Golden and Bachelor in Paradise
and they both host the Golden Hour podcast. I know
you guys just finished wrapping up your recap the first

(01:13):
episode of.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
The Golden The New Golden A little bit good time,
quick quick first impressions from both of you.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Go first, I was not on his side, but I
am now.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Okay, okay, I'm not sure enough. I think that the
women are great.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
The women, that's a whole nother story.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
He seems like not like the most charming human in
the entire world.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
He is handsome, he's got a look, but it's not humble.
It's not mine forgiveness and give them a chance. Okay,
so you got it. Yeah, we're human.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
I think the women are fabulous. They all have lots
of hair, they have extensions, and I'm like, you know,
they were bikinis, Like I just want to be one
of them.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah, they're not golden. They're not golden. They're really.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Is golden to you if you don't mind. It's always
sixty plus. That's like our definition as a franchise, right.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
I think sixty five five security.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
It was supposed to be sixty five, but you know
what five years, yes, four crew was but they started
it was supposed to be sixty five and then they
lowered it. And here's my thing. I think the women
are fabulus. I think they're you know, young, they're talented.
I think I can't wait to see how the season
develops because I think that they have the benefit of

(02:46):
watching having watched our season. So some of my things
are there for the right reason. Some of them are
there to build their social media platforms and their businesses.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Do you have a problem with them? No, I'm just
we didn't know what social media want. I don't know
what it means. Answer was or a collaborator. I was like,
you guys are like pretty much golden influencers. I think
now we didn't come on.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
That's what they asked this woman when we meet them,
And how did you go?

Speaker 3 (03:10):
I don't know just what the women want to know?

Speaker 2 (03:13):
How a career because now both of you are immediate personality.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yes, well, and I got to.

Speaker 5 (03:19):
Say, I'm mel I've I've said from the get go,
he said something stupid.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yeah, you know he is. He's right. He is going
to have to earn it back.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
But you know what, I'm going to cut him some
grace because give him some grace because he doesn't know
what he's in for. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
He's he's he's.

Speaker 5 (03:37):
Got some lots of beautiful women, and he might really
want a woman between forty and sixty until he meets
this crowd, and now I think he's like, whoa, there
are some hot women. So that's a good message.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
As I said this morning, how many times have I
or you opened your mouth and insert at your foot.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
In my mouth?

Speaker 4 (03:54):
He said, like you got to give them a risk?

Speaker 3 (03:57):
So true.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Me included what do you guys think about like him
as a lead versus Gary.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
As light and day listen if there could have been
one more on his season. In fact, I'm still thinking
I can go meet him and sweet him away. If
you if you chose something, you know, it's not too
late to break him up. I'm certainly not talking about Gary.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
I know you aren't. I love the tag.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
You guys are so honest about the fact that like
Gary like after you guys depart from the show is
just like not.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
Let me just break this down really quickly. A lawyer,
a football player, a guy who can string together sentences,
or you can go pick cotton and a corn Mason Indiana,
I don't know what do you want to do.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
Anyways, did you know what when we were finally they
didn't let us know to the last minute when we
were on the show, and then he's announced, my phone
was blowing up and my friends, are you still going?
That's mean, you know, my daughter said.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
My daughter said, Mom, I've known you my whole life.
You really think you're moving to Indiana? It's never happened.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah, well I have the same thing with crystals, or like,
you aren't moving to Iowa to a cornfield, and then
well you're in the bachelor bubble and you're like, I
could totally live on a cornfield.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
No, no, I never said you guys were mature enough
to know that you.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
Couldn't the cod That's as close as I want to
get to a cornfield, thank you very much.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
And then your girls in our room saying he called
that a lake. It's a pond. Remember, yeah, he lives
he said, he lives on a lake. It's like, you know,
like a swan Boa cattle wheel thing.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
I just love obsessed with how you do not care?

Speaker 4 (05:41):
We love him, we love him, we're good friends, but hey.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
It is what I love him anymore. He's perfectly fine.
He's got a new girlfriend. Actually, I wish him all
the best. Her name is Lana, not Lana Lana like.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
They look alike?

Speaker 3 (05:57):
They look alike? They do?

Speaker 4 (05:58):
They look alike?

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Okay, that's what the people say that you end up
with people that you look like. Oh god, I'm in trouble.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
My husband looks like me, people say, and I probably agree.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
I don't think I look like Frederick at all. Now
is your new relationship? Great? Great? He's at my house?
Oh nice, I'm here.

Speaker 5 (06:18):
He's doing the dishes, more in the lawn, just where
a good man should be serving a woman.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
It's a long distant relationship. So how's that going.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
It's difficult at times. Yeah, he was in an island, yes,
Saint Martin.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Yeah, all right, Well I'm happy for you. Now it's
it's Kathy's turn. Yeah, to get a man. Kathy, we
need like a spin off show with you, where you
where you date people?

Speaker 3 (06:40):
You know? Why wait, why aren't you on a Ben
spinoff where he has.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
We planned a show? Helloth of us?

Speaker 5 (06:47):
Directors, producers, directors, producers?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Where is the show for Kathy? To find?

Speaker 4 (06:52):
Lots?

Speaker 5 (06:52):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Was there somebody that you want to show up to paradise?
You didn't come. Oh, yes, I.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Mean anybody, Yeah, anybody.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
I meant anybody with an IQ over ninety, preferably over
six feet. No, I mean there was nobody from Jonesy.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Nobody from Jones season that you wanted. You wanted people
to come from outside the franchise.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
They wanted maybe somebody that applied for the job, you
know what I mean, or that I.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
Just I want someone. You know, I'm not asking for
that much. I want someone who will accept me for
who I am. I'm not everyone's cup of tea, but like,
I live life and I enjoy life, and I want
someone who wants to enjoy life with me, as long
as he's not living on Social Security.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Is Like in Paradise, it almost felt like they didn't
really set you guys up for like romantic success.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
They didn't really you know, there wasn't enough of you.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
Keith possible.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
When we got there, many of us thought that there
were they were going to bring in other Goldens or
other people that applied, when I didn't. And I knew Keith.
I knew all those guys because they'd been on our podcast.
I'd met them at different iHeart events, so I knew them.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Like I already and you in that reject pile.

Speaker 5 (08:13):
You know, your your resume is in the circular file.
So but Keith is a great guy and we were
friends and it was never going to be more than that.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
He's a great guy. But no, what about where you
guys were in the pool together? Was it ever like,
could you've ever gotten like there was a moment, not.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
Even a nano sec I mean, I got to tell
you when April started making out with Jack, I thought
I was going to lose my lunch.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
And not because I mean April and Jack.

Speaker 5 (08:41):
That's like like Mickey Mouse with I don't know, it's
just no Jessica Rabbit. Yeah exactly, I mean anyway, So no,
there was never a moment where I thought, now, if
you'd give me enough alcohol.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Or drugs, that.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
You still wouldn't.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
You're right, not enough now if you like, you know,
you know, a two bagger they were you know maybe
I no, never okay, just but I love him.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
But no, let's get back into this episode. Stand out
girls to you. Well, it's so funny going through my bracket.
I had Maya Maya.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Maya Yeah, min from.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Sheets Eliminated Rose Ceremony Number one also Sandra's sister sister
on her name?

Speaker 3 (09:32):
How can you? I mean, why was she eliminated? She's was?

Speaker 2 (09:36):
She was, she's sent seven and she looks like she
looks fifty seven.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Yeah, but.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
Seventy five.

Speaker 5 (09:45):
Yeah. I mean, I just don't think regardless, we all
accept Mel's apology, we all want the best, but I
don't see Mel. Unfortunately our culture, I don't know, see
a sixty six year old going for a seventy seven
year old.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
I just don't say it.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
I did he even know her age because she didn't
look at obviously, And I don't know.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
I mean, who knows why.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
I guess like it's just one of those situations like
I always refer to grocery store Joe.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Everybody thought he's the most charming, cute, handsome guy. How
did Betha eliminate him? Night one?

Speaker 2 (10:17):
And then you hear that she was like, no, you
guys don't understand. There was so little chemistry, but we
just couldn't.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
It's a fla.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
No matter how cute somebody can be, you just like
it's not there.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Trust me.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
The older you get that becomes like ye, A lot of.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
We both thought.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Kathy and I have spoken off the mic and said that, well,
Carol is a big favorite of ours, and then Cindy is.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Everybody to me, Cindy.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Saying, like the winners, she seems like she's getting the
winner edit. She and ye who he had the one
on one with Cheryl Cheryl, they seem like they could
be like getting the top two edits. And I think
that Carol, I mean, she's definitely got young energy.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Here's the thing about Peg.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
And I said this running for Peg when she comes
in in her fit and her here's the thing about Peg.
She is a bomb squad firefighter. My son's a firefighter
like they. It takes a lot of punch and a
lot of and so when she was like these women
are also chatty, chatty, chatty, She's not going to put
up with crap from anybody. I guarantee you she's either

(11:43):
going to go so far or he's going to say Nope,
she's too much for me.

Speaker 4 (11:48):
The conversation that they had, she was on point, so
are you retired? Because I want a man that's going
to spend time. She was the lead.

Speaker 6 (11:56):
You know, I.

Speaker 5 (11:58):
Tell you she's like the fires burning, where's.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
The let's get I like it?

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Anybody else that you think we need to talk about.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
I mean, Nicole was also she looks great, but she
is possibly an instigator.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
Climbing the tree.

Speaker 5 (12:17):
City City from Austin says wow, when she was in
the push and she was like climbing him like a tree. Yeah,
I personally not that you know, anyone cares. I think
as a golden like, I'd like to set a little
bit better example and so I know, you know, take your.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Tasteful a little more tasteful.

Speaker 5 (12:36):
You don't have to be macking on him from the
get go and calling him her husband like come on.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
And to tell her. I think that we should cool it.
You know, in the pool, I.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
Was like, eliminate her.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
I think it's not because he thinks she's hot, but
he is a man. Yeah, he's a guy, but like
I don't think he liked that at all.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
He was like Jill Jerry, she was another standout. Yeah,
she's like great connections.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
She seems smart.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
Really she's smart.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
I wonder.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
Her story.

Speaker 5 (13:09):
Some great stories women who have taken care of single
hand raised children, taking care of mothers in their older
older years. I mean, these women have woven very rich fabrics.
Their lives are very rich richly. We haven't heard too
much about Robin yet. I hope she's playing just having

(13:31):
the rob.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Become best friend. Oh my gosh. What about Cheryl's story
with the son?

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Yeah, tyson didn't.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
I want to kind of I want to call her
and say, how did you get him back after a week?

Speaker 3 (13:52):
Like I want more of that story. I want to know.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Yeah, I know, I'm sure it was longer. They had
to bridge it for TV, but it was like.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
And you know the other thing.

Speaker 5 (14:01):
I loved the stories Cheryl who had been for eighteen years,
she had just raised her son, and she hadn't done
anything for herself, and she and now that sweet moment
of now it's our time.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
And I love hearing that as a goolden.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
Okay, So I have like a lot of fun questions
that I want to ask you guys during our group session,
which is going to be mostly about Jonas, but if
you don't mind, can we talk about like it's really
a little juicy, a little personal.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
What are you talking about? Are talking about hormone?

Speaker 2 (14:35):
You guys don't exactly You guys don't even know we
talked about at dinner last night. We were talking about metopause.
Some of the metopausal symptoms. And I don't know how
far Kathy wants to get into this.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
Anything you want on the open book, let me let
me educate the world on menopause.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
What can I help you out? Okay?

Speaker 4 (14:55):
Highly recommend No.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
No no no no no no no no no no no.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
I I actually want to talk to Kathy about dating
after I think.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
I think dating after a divorce.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Like Susan and after the passing of your husband has
to be different.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
It is, right.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
So were you, Susan excited to get back into dating
after a divorce or you were jetting it?

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Did you even want to do it?

Speaker 4 (15:20):
Not for a while?

Speaker 3 (15:21):
Okay? And then how was the first date?

Speaker 4 (15:26):
Odd?

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (15:28):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (15:28):
And did it evolve into anything of interest?

Speaker 6 (15:31):
Now?

Speaker 3 (15:31):
When was the first time you got butterflies again after
a divorce?

Speaker 4 (15:34):
A few years later?

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (15:36):
And I've had those a few times. So I've had
several relationships, maybe two three years. The fact that I
am as old as I am, I know what I
could deal with and what I can't. And after about
six months in I told you this, Kathy, when I
met this last one, After six months you start seeing

(15:59):
the real you know, the butterflies go away, and I
know the difference now, and yeah, you.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Know the difference, and you know that who you're with
now is so far so six months okay, great. I
was gonna say, like, what was the first kiss, like
post divorce.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
The guy that I went on a date with, We
went to golf and we went to Atlantic City actually,
but I didn't kiss him. Okay, we didn't kiss, so
it was I can't even count the first one.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
So I wasn't to.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Ask Kathy about that because like you kind of inferred
last night that like you've been romantic since your husband.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
Well sexually active a romantic.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Actually, how comfortable you're willing to go were? I mean,
do you want names and numbers? Dan? What do you need?

Speaker 4 (16:51):
She's alive? Of course, we're so.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Interested in everything's actually active again after your husband.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
But here's let me say, here's the thing. My husband died, obviously,
you know, the sudden death. I didn't touch my feet,
didn't hit the ground, you.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
Know, for six months, yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
More like a year.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
My first date I think was and it was way
too soon, and I honestly don't even remember. It was
eighteen months after he died. My daughter summed it up
perfectly because I got married at twenty to my husband.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
I was married almost forty six years. Yes, that's why
I don't know you guys.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
I just came up with this random conversation topic that
I thought was like interesting because I'm just like, how
do you.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Feel like being physical at all? Was somebody after you've
been with somebody.

Speaker 5 (17:38):
For forty so I will tell you that was really scary.
But you're going to laugh, but I mean it. It's
sort of like riding a bike. Yeah, you know, once
you get you get back on the horse. Whatever you
want to you know, whatever metaphor you want to use.
But here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Didn't feel good to be kissed again?

Speaker 3 (17:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (17:57):
Yeah, But at first it was very strong range because
as my daughter said, Mom, you got married.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
I met my husband when I was eighteen.

Speaker 5 (18:05):
Yes, I was married at twenty everything, yes, yes, yeah,
so ever seen never have I ever were playing?

Speaker 4 (18:13):
She did nothing?

Speaker 3 (18:14):
That's me too.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
I used to be like when in college, I was like,
I can't play this. It's so embarrassing because I haven't
done anything. And now I'm like.

Speaker 5 (18:21):
I but but honestly, when my daughter said to me, Mom,
you're gonna it's gonna be step learning curfew because you
didn't date in your twenties, you didn't have multiple sex partners.
You know, you just got married and I didn't have
children for the first dight and a half years that
you were married. But you know, so for me, it

(18:44):
was literally I had to learn how to date, learn
how to flirt all that. It was like, I just
didn't know how to do it. And I, you know,
I believe people. I took everyone at their word, and
you know, I just I had to learn how to
do it.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Who helped you learn to do it? A trial and
era it was myself.

Speaker 5 (19:03):
I mean I had a couple of girlfriends I talked
to about it, but for the most part, I had
to figure it out on my own because now I
know what I want, I know what I what, I'm
willing to compromise on what I'm not. And it's it's
fun now to date. Am I still looking for that guy?

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Yeah? You know, I got a date later with one
of the Jonas brothers.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
But okay, well, during our Jonah's podcast, we'll talk about,
you know, like how low would you go age wise
and all of that.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
Oh boy, because.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
Oh god, that's now see my youngest child's thirty eight.
I got to draw the line somewhere.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
Maybe like forty.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
No.

Speaker 5 (19:41):
Actually, honestly, my truth about dating is I don't really
date men my own age, because you've heard my thing
about used to guys to men.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
I used to guy.

Speaker 5 (19:53):
I used to play tennis, I used to swim, I
used to ski. Now I sit on the sofa and
drink of beer. I don't want used to guy. And
unfortunately there's a lot of them.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Yeah, you know, so you always go a little younger.

Speaker 5 (20:05):
I like to date men who are younger. I've dated
some guys who are my age, but I like to
go younger.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
What's your best date since the loss of your husband
next week?

Speaker 3 (20:17):
It is my best date? Is honestly, yeah, that's exactly.
I mean, you know I'm still looking.

Speaker 5 (20:25):
I I have the guy said I've dated. There was
one guy dated for a few months and when I
broke up with him, he was shocked and he's like what,
And I said, well, number one in your life is
your dog. Number two in your life is your dog.
Number three in your life is your daughter. Fourth in

(20:46):
your life is your computer. And I'm a distant fifth.
So see, yeah, I mean I just don't. That's why
I'm saying now I know what I'll put up with.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Have you felt butterflies a little with one guy?

Speaker 6 (20:58):
Okay recently, but the next we talk about it yet, Yeah,
that's it's mego nowhere Okay, somewhere, Yes it is, but
we're not going to say that.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
What's your type?

Speaker 4 (21:10):
Typically?

Speaker 5 (21:11):
So? I like a smart guy. I like a guy
who's fit. I like a guy who will have adventures.
You know, he doesn't have to do everything I do
like I want. I'm a snow scare. He doesn't have
to snowski, but he damn right. Well, better have the
drink for me at the lodge afterwards, he better go
hiking with me, kayaking with me. He's got to be

(21:31):
taller than I am. I'm five to eight, so you know,
six feet is good. But more it's a guy who
has a sense of of of enjoyment of life, a
zest for life.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
I just want to report to you that the Jonahs
brothers are like five.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
Seven at best.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
Yes, I'll make an exception.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
I think we should end this here and we'll go
into all my follow up questions in our later episode.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
Okay, you guys are so much fun. Thank you for
being here and experiencing this.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
All right. Until next time, I've been Ashley and they've
been Kathy and Susan.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
Bye bye.
