In just four minutes, thousands of people have been arrested
in Philadelphia for obstructing traffic and a May Day protest.
Protests were held in cities across the US on Thursday
for International Workers Day, known as May Day. In Philadelphia,
thousands took to the streets to protest recent actions by
the Trump administration, and seventy people were arrested for blocking

the highway. Diane Palm joined a protest in Muskegon, Michigan.
She says America is in crisis and she fears for
her grandchildren's future.

Earlier on Thursday, there was reporting that Mike Waltz had
been fired the National Security Advisor, but loyalist to Trump
had been on shaky ground in recent weeks since he
accidentally added a journalist to a group chat on the
app signal, but this is clearly shunting him aside. The
un role has remained unfilled since Donald Trump returned to office,

and the President had clearly been souring on his National
Security Advisor. That role now goes to Secretary of State
Marco Rubio, who Trump says will be doing both roles

April's job report is due to be released this morning.
The consensus among most analysts is that the government's monthly
employment report will show hiring sload in the start of
the second quarter. The forecast is for one hundred and
thirty three thousand new jobs versus two hundred and twenty
eight thousand in the month SMP five hundred. Futures are
on the rise as China signals openness to trade talks.

aimed at cutting off taxpayer funding for NPR and PBS.

Trump said in the order that government funding of news
media in this environment is not only outdated and unnecessary,
but corrosive to the appearance of journalistic independence. The White
House said on its X profile that outlets receive millions
from taxpayers to spread what it called radical, woke propaganda
disguised as news. The broadcasters receive upwards of half of

billion dollars through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The Department of Education will resume collecting defaulted student loan
debt this coming Monday. More from Brian Shook.

The Department announced collections will begin on May fifth, and
borrowers could be referred to debt collectors or have money
deducted from their paychecks. Student loan repayment requirements were paused
in March twenty twenty due to the COVID nineteen pandemic.
The Biden administration opted not to resume collections and attempted
to forgive student loan debt in a program that was

ultimately struck down by the Supreme Court. The Trump administration
has indicated it would offer no such concessions to borrowers.
