Speaker 2 (00:08):
The death toll is rising after last week's devastating floods
in central Texas. So far, more than one hundred twenty
people have died, with most of the fatalities happening in
Kirk County. Officials there say at least one hundred three
have died, including thirty six children. President Trump visited the
area of Friday, saying he's never seen anything like it.

(00:31):
He also said he talked to the families who lost children.
We just gave our warmest condolences. But you say to yourself,
you know, how do you give condolences?

Speaker 3 (00:39):
How do you do that to.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
A young person that three days ago was here. A
Los Angeles federal judge is temporarily blocking immigration agents from
carrying out stops and arrests that advocates say violate the law.
The judge issued and order Friday that bars agents from
relying on race, Spanish speaking, type of work or location,
and when detaining suspects. The deputy director of the FBI

(01:04):
is reportedly considering stepping down from his role. Chris Carraggio reports.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
CNN reports that Dan Bongina was told people he's thinking
about resigning after clashing with US Attorney General Pam Bondi
over the Jeffrey Epstein files. Earlier this week, a memo
stated there is no evidence that Epstein kept a so
called client list. A number of high profile conservative personalities,
like Megan Kelly and Laura Lumer, have criticized Bondy over
the handling of the Epstein case.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Following the memo, Minnesota Governor Tim Walls has announced a
special election to fill the seat of state Representative Melissa Hortman.
On Friday, Wall's office said the election will take place
September sixteenth. Hortman and her husband were shot and killed
in their home last month, and what officials said was
a politically motivated attack disgrace Lawmaker George Santos says he

(01:54):
does not know if he'll survive in prison. The former
congressman from New York said during an interview with Tucker
Carlson that he's headed to a violent prison and not
a street wise guy. I'm Brian Shook. The Justice Department
says it has subpoenaed more than twenty doctors and clinics
that provide transgender care to minors. The announcement did not

(02:16):
name the providers or say where they're located. The investigation
involves possible health care fraud and false statements. New York
City Mayor Eric Adams is looking into a mask ban.
Natalie Migliori has more.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
The mayor says he doesn't think the new mask ban
written into this year's state budget goes far enough. It
comes months after Adams told Israeli media outlet I twenty
four News that he would request the city council pass
a complete mask ban across all five boroughs. According to
the New York Post, violations would be a misdemeanor, but
it would come with jail time for repeat offenders. The

(02:52):
mayor has mentioned concerns over a rise in anti Semitism,
with a spokesperson saying Adams will always protect the right
to peaceful protest, but be illegal for those who hide
behind masks to threaten others. I'm Natalie mcgliori.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
The swarm of earthquakes under Washington State's Mount Rainier has
now set a record. Brad Ford has the details.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
There have been over three hundred and thirty four earthquakes
since July eighth, that surpasses the two thousand and nine
swarm event. These are not large earthquakes. The strongest is
only two point four magnitude. The USGS says they've only
monitored the mountain for about forty years, so they don't
know if there were larger sworms in the past. There
is no deformation on the mountain or other signs that
might indicate a future eruption. I'm brad Ford.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Vacation renters are likely wasting billions in food each year
across the United States. According to his study published in
Waste Management. Researchers projected an annual estimate of up to
two point three billion dollars spent on food that was
not consumed by the end of vacations. The study found

(03:57):
that produce and pantry staple topped the charts of most
discarded vacation groceries. I'm Brian Shook.
