forward with a plan to punish the Democrats who have
fled the state to protest redistricting. It's being led by
state Representative Mitch Little. The House Committee on General Investigating,
by statute or rule, has the authority to convene regardless
of whether our body has a core. That committee, which

looks into public corruption, has full subpoena power, and in Texas,
dodging a subpoena is a misdemeanor that could lead to
jail time. How Speaker Dustin Burroughs said today that he's
been in consultation with state troopers who have been charged
with tracking down the rogue Democrats, but legal experts say
charges are probably not enforceable outside state lines. The Republicans'
plan is aimed at adding up to five GOP seats

ahead of next year's midterms. Millions in the eastern part
of the country are dealing with poor air quality due
to smoke from Canadian wildfires. Those in the midwest to
the northeast may see hazy skies as the smoke gets
pushed south. People in the res being told to limit
outdoor activities. Wisconsin and Michigan are dealing with the worst
of it, while major cities like New York, Boston, and
Philadelphia are all under some sort of air quality alert.

A convicted murderer has been executed in Tennessee. Sixty nine
year old Byron Black was executed despite concerns from his
attorneys that a heart device could repeatedly shock him. A
half dozen media witnesses to the execution said Black showed
visible signs of distress and said this is hurting so bad.
Black murdered his girlfriend, Angela Clay and her two young
daughters in Nashville in nineteen eighty eight. A federal judge

is allowing Luigi Mangioni to have access to a laptop
in jail as he awaits trial. Mangioni is accused of
killing United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside of Manhattan hotel
last year, and he faces the death penalty if convicted.
Attorneys for the twenty seven year old say their client
will be able to access case related documents only and
video provided by the government. Former model Joanna Carson has

died at the age of ninety three, she was one
of New York City's top fashion models, and she was
also the third wife of former Tonight Show host Johnny Carson,
who died in two thousand and five. Joanna and Johnny
Carson were married from nineteen seventy two to nineteen eighty five.

host will be playing a late night TV host in
a season three episode of the CBS show Elsbeth, which
stars Carrie Preston as a lawyer slash detective. News comes
after CBS announced the cancelation of the Late show. It'll
end in May for what the network called financial reasons.
