Washington DC Police Department has been put under direct federal
control as part of President Trump's crackdown on crime. Speaking
at the White House this morning, he said he will
rescue Washington, DC, calling today Liberation Day. Trump is activating

(00:24):
the National Guard to help local law enforcement as part
of his plan, and he added he will send in
the military if needed. Three people are dead in a
shooting that happened at a target store in Austin. Police
Chief Lisa Davis said the suspect carjacked the car, but
then crashed as he tried to escape.

Then hijacked another car.

He was then found by Austin pede where he was
taken into custody after a tasing.

She says the suspect has a history of mental health issues.
At least one person has been killed and another is
unaccounted for in an explosion at a US steel plan
in Pennsylvania. It happened at the US Clareton Coke Works
plant in Clareton, south of Pittsburgh. Ten others have also
been injured. Wall Street is closing lower Sarah Lee Kessler reports.

reports that are set to be released this week. July's
Consumer Price Index Well that's forecast to show a point

Well Miami federal judge will decide Tuesday if construction can
resume at the immigration detention facility known as Alligator Alcatraz.
The judge previously ruled in favor of an environmental advocacy
group who called for a shutdown of the facility until

Melly's Florida retrial in his double murder case is being
pushed back to twenty twenty seven. The Fourth District Court
of Appeals granted a stay in the case as it
considers a motion by the state Attorney's office that prevents
the trial from beginning in September as expected. The first
trial ended with a mistrial in twenty twenty three. He

could face the death penalty if found guilty. The number
of immigration arrests in Southern California is declining. Daniel Martindale reports.

That is according to new data from the US Department
of Homeland Security, ICE, along with Customs and Border Protection agents,
have made four one hundred and sixty three arrests in
the region since June sixth. That is an average of
sixty eight arrests per day. Between June sixth and June
twenty sixth, and nearly nineteen hundred immigration related arrests were made,
that was an arrest rate of eighty eight per day.

Order issued by a federal judge last month. It blocks
federal agents in Southern California from targeting anyone based solely

The FAA says it plans to hire eighty nine hundred
air traffic controllers over the next three years. The details
from Tammy Trahio.

Federal Aviation Administration released a workforce plan with details on
how it will address a shortage of air traffic controllers
in the US. The report adds, however, that it expects
to have only about one thousand additional certified controllers by
the end of fiscal year twenty twenty eight because of
washouts among its recruits. The report comes after sixty seven
people died last January in a mid air collision in Washington,

DC that was attributed in part to a shortage of
air traffic controllers.

Over half a billion dollars will be up for grabs
in tonight's Powerball drawing. No one matched all of the
numbers on Saturday, so the estimated jackpot now stands at
