This is your twenty four to seven use update the
latest use this hour in just four minutes.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
President Trump says Ukraine's leader will not take part in
his sumwhat with Vladimir Putin. Trump said he's unsure on
where Putin stands.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
I believe he wants to get it over with now,
I've said that a few times. Then I've been disappointed
because they have like a great call with him, and
then missiles would be lobbed in Tikiyev for some other place.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Trump says he's going to call Ukrainian President Zelenski and
other European leaders after he talks with Putin and possibly
set up a meeting.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
With Ukraine's leader afterwards.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Trump says he doesn't anticipate a deal to end the
Ukraine Russian War after meeting Putin. Then, he says he'll
either tell both science there's going to be a deal
or they can keep fighting. Trump called his sit down
with Putin a feel out meeting. The mayor of Washington, DC,
is reacting to President Trump's crime actions in the nation's capital.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Brian Shook reports Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser spoke out after
Trump placed the DC police under federal control and activated
the National Guard as part of his major crackdown on crime.

Speaker 5 (01:02):
And while this action today is unsettlingly and unprecedented, I
can't say that given some of the rhetoric of the
past that were totally surprised.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Bowser thinks Trump's current view on crime and DC is
shaped by rising crime rates during his first term, but
she says it's dropped since then. I'm Brian Shook.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Forecasters tropical storm Erin could become a hurricane toward the
end of the week. The storm is currently churning in
the Eastern Atlantic Ocean after forming just west of the
Cabo Verde Islands. The National Hurricane Center said Monday afternoon
that Erin's maximum sustained winds were nearly forty five miles
per hour. The storm is expected to head westward towards
the northeast Caribbean. It's too early to tell if this
storm will impact the US coast. And three people are

(01:47):
dead after shooting at a target in Austin. Officers arrived
to the store to find three people shot in the
parking lot, with the suspect then hijacking a car. He crashed,
then hijacked another car before being captured and tased. Officials
say the man has got a history of mental health issues.
The investigation is ongoing. I'm Mark Mayfield. President Trump is
extending the deadline for tariffs on China to go into effect.

(02:11):
Chris Karajio has details.

Speaker 6 (02:12):
Multiple reports say he signed an executive order just hours
before his pause on the higher tariffs was set to expire.
The executive order pushes back the deadline ninety days until
November ninth. The extension comes after US and Chinese officials
met last month. Had the pause not been extended, tariffs
on Chinese goods would have gone back up to the
high levels seen in April.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
I'm Chris Karagio.

Speaker 2 (02:35):

at the immigration detention facility known as Alligator Alcatraz.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
The judge previously ruled in favor of.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
An environmental advocacy group who called for a shutdown of
the facility until an environmental study can be completed. The
temporary order blocked any construction at the site for two weeks,
but did allow it to continue to house detainees.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Once the hearing concludes.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
The judge will issue her ruling that will overrun the
temporary ruling, either halting further construction or allowing it to
resume as the case continues. Two people are dead after
an explosion at a US Steel plane in Pennsylvania. It
happened Monday morning at the US Clareton Coke Works plant
in Clareton, south of Pittsburgh.

Speaker 7 (03:14):
This is a tragedy that we want to understand. We're
under the investigation and we will continue to work not
only with the folks behind me, but the families of
those that have been affected.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
US Steel spokesperson Scott Bokao said the cause of the
explosion is being investigated. Ten others who are also injured.
The plant produces the material coke, which is used in
the making of steel. A new inflation report is on Tuesday,
and most economists are expecting bad news. The consumer Price
Index is expected to show prices rose at a faster pace.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
In July compared to June. The annual inflation.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Rate is also expected to tick up. Most experts are
blaming the increase on President Trump's tariffs, and the latest
chapter in the Shrek series is being delayed. Shrek five
has had its release date postponed from December twenty twenty
