Speaker 2 (00:04):
Hour in just four minutes.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
The one on one summit between President Trump and Russia's
Vladimir Putin is happening today in Alaska. White House correspondent
John Decker, who's in Anchorage, says Trump's goals are clear
is that this does pave the way for a second meeting,
a second summit, and then ultimately an end to the
war after three years of fighting. Decker says there's a

(00:31):
lot of uncertainty about what the mood will be like
when the two leaders meet. Trumps said he'll know right
away what Putin's intentions are, and if he feels Putin
wants to end the war, he'll stay. If Trump believes
he has no interest in ending the bloodshed, he'll exit quickly.
A federal judge is halting efforts from the White House

(00:52):
to defund schools with DEI programs. On Thursday, the judge
ruled the Trump administration can't cut federal funding colleges and
other schools that have diversity programs, as it threatened to
do earlier this year. Former President Barack Obama is supporting
Texas Democrats who left the state to block a GOP
redistricting plan. In a virtual meeting Thursday, Obama told the

(01:17):
Texas lawmakers that their actions were inspiring others.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Because of your actions, because of your courage. What you've
seen is California responding, other states looking at what they
can do to offset this mid decade jerry mandering that
is highly irregular.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Texas Representative Gene Wu said Obama's endorsement was proof that
they have the support of Democrats at every level. The
group met via zoom from an undisclosed location. Washington, d
C's police chief says her department will work more closely
with federal immigration authorities. Chief Pamela Smith issued an executive

(01:56):
order yesterday that allows officers to share information about people
not in custody, like those pulled over for traffic violations.
I'm Michael Cassner. The Supreme Court is declining to block
a Mississippi law that imposes age verification across social media platforms.
More from Brian Shook.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
The law was enacted last year and requires all users
under eighteen to verify their age as well as obtained
parental consent to access social media sites. Mississippi's law addresses
growing concerns about the negative impact of social media on
young people. However, the industry group net Choice argues that
the restrictions violate free speech protections.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
With Andrew Cuomo attacking Zoran Mamdani over living in a
rent stabilized apartment, Mamdani is striking back in the New
York City mayoral race over Cuomo's client list. Andrew Whipman reports.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Cuomo worked as a consultant after resigning as governor in
twenty twenty one following his sexual harassment scandal. Mamdani has
been hammering him, using Cuomo of working for a shady
crypto firm, a luxury marina in Puerto Rico, and helping
defend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Nettan Yahoo from war crime allegations.

(03:11):
As by a reporter Thursday, Cuomo said he couldn't share names,
but he defended his work for pro Israel groups and
insisted none of his clients at business before the city
or state.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Today is a day for a sweet and tart treat.
Pree Tennis with what you need to stick a fork into.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
Today we're celebrating a classic dessert that has a buttery crust,
a lot of lemon curd and gobs a fluffy and
lightly toasted whipped egg whites. It's lemon Meringue Pie Day,
based on a French dessert, but what we eat today
is all American. Developed in Philadelphia in about eighteen sixty.
It's sweet and tart, also full of fat, sugar and calories,
but better homes and gardens says. The average American eats

(03:51):
about a pie a year, so spaced out the calories
really don't count.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
The Powerball jackpod has reached its highest level so far
this year. Saturday Nights drawing will be an estimated five
hundred sixty five million dollars. I'm Michael Kassner.
