Political leaders in Illinois are telling President Trump to keep
the National Guard out of Chicago. Democratic Governor J. B.
Pritzker says there is no reason to send troops to
the city to fight crime, calling the move unconstitutional and
un American. The governor also urged residents to protest peacefully
if troops are deployed, and said all legal options are
being explored. Consumer confidence dipped in August. Matt Mattinson has more.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
The Conference Boards consumer confidence index fell by more than
a point from the July reading, as consumers became less
optimistic about the economy. The monthly survey noted concerns about
tariffs and higher prices including food and groceries rose again
in August. Purchasing plans for homes remained stable, while discretionary
spending for dining out, entertainment, and vacations were all down.

President Trump is commenting on the engagement of Taylor Swift
and Travis Kelcey Well. I wish he was asked about
it at the White House today, and the laughter in
the room came from his cabinet. Trump has been a
sharp critic of Swift after she endorsed Kamala Harris for President.
Trump added that Kelsey is a great player and Swift
is a terrific person. While the pair have not yet

released details of the wedding, experts say their nuptials will
be copied by couples around the country.

Wedding planner Tracy French predicts that Swift's bridal gown will
instantly be a bestseller, and it's not just her style choices.
She says, grooms will try to copy Travis Kelcey's look
when they tie it out. Apple is announcing a launch
event scheduled at its campus next month. The tech giants
sent invites to the media and analysts for the event,
which is being held on September ninth. Analysts expect Apple

he's behind the nearly thirteen million dollar bid for the
rare Kobe Bryant Michael Jordan card recently sold an auction.
The Shark Tanks star told CNBC that he split the
purchase with two fellow investors. The one of a kind

TOPS cards surpassed the all time record for any sports
card at auction. It features NBA uniform logos its signatures
from both Hall of Famers. United Airlines says it canceled
the flight minutes before takeoff after a passenger smoked marijuana
in the bathroom. The flight had been delayed due to
technical issues, and the delay reportedly made one passenger restless

due to a concern over secondhand smoke exposure. The pilot
decided to cancel the flight. He announced to the passengers
that he was unwilling to risk the next thirty years
of his career over a drug test. Many passengers expressed
frustration over the incident, calling the passenger's action selfish. Southwest
Airlines is changing its seating policy for larger customers. Tampa
Trehillo has details.

According to the the Dallas based airlines, larger passengers who
cannot be accommodated in a single plane seat will be
required to purchase a second seat ahead of time and
can then request a refund after the flight. Refunds can
only be issued if both seats were in the same
fair class. The refund request is made within ninety days
and the plane would have taken off with at least
one extra open seat. The changes are part of southwest

broader shift to assigned seating. They're set to take effect
on January twenty seventh, the next year.

Sales of new single family homes slowed more than expected
in July. Government figures show new home sales fell to
a seasonally adjusted annual rate of six hundred and fifty
two thousand units last month. Industry analysts say it's another
sign the housing market is struggling as mortgage rates remain high.
The average price of new houses sold in July was
just over four hundred and eighty seven thousand dollars. Phoenix

is cleaning up today after a massive dust storm hit
the area last night. A gigantic wall of dust made
its way across the Phoenix metro area, knocking out power
for thousands. The monsoon storm also caused flight delays at
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Heavy rain, along with lightning
also hit the area. Phoenix could see more storms today.
