Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is your twenty four to seven US update.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
The latest use.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
This hour in just four minutes. Charlie Kirk's shooting suspect
is in custody. Utah Governor Spencer Cox idd the man
is twenty two year old Utah resident Tyler Robinson. He
said a family member of Robinson went to a family friend,
who then contacted law enforcement. Cox says Robinson told his
family that Kirk was coming to Utah Valley University and
(00:25):
added that he didn't like him. Kirk died after being
shot in the neck while speaking at an outdoor turning
point event at the school on Wednesday. Robinson was not
a current student at Utah Valley University, but went there
for one semester in twenty twenty one. He had no
prior criminal record. Police say Robinson changed outfits when he
arrived on campus before he allegedly shot and killed Kirk,
(00:45):
then changed again as he was fleeing the scene. NBC
News legal analyst Danny Sevaios says Utah has capital punishment.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Utah is one of very few states that still has,
and I may be putting the cart before the horse.
The firing squad as a method of capital punishment. Only
five have been executed that way since nineteen seventy seven,
but it does exist.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Court record show the twenty two year old was arrested
on charges of aggravated murder, felony, discharge of a firearm
causing serious bottle injury, and obstruction of justice. Uber is
being sued by the US Justice Department for allegedly discriminating
against people with physical disabilities.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Monica Nelson reports the lawsuit claims Uber and its drivers
routinely refuse to serve individuals with disabilities, including individuals who
travel with service animals or are those who use stowable wheelchairs.
Uber is also accused of charging extra fees for writers
who need special accommodations, including cancelation fees when service is denied.
(01:42):
Uber says drivers who violate eighty eight laws are disciplined
and even deactivated.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
On Monica Nelson, College football takes the spotlight tonight. The
action will kick off with number nineteen Indiana hosting Indiana State.
Syracuse will then host Colgate in the Big Twelve, Colorado
visits Houston, Arizona takes on Kansas stated home home. The
evening action will be capped off with UCLA hosting New Mexico.
I'm Chris Gragio. Comedy Central is pulling a recent South
(02:08):
Park episode that made fun of Charlie Kirk. The animated
series premiered an episode on August sixth titled Got a Nut,
which included a character aimed at mimicking the conservative commentator. Now,
in the wake of Kirk's death, Comedy Central has decided
not to air reruns of that episode, but it's still
available to stream on Paramount Plus. Despite the episode appearing
to poke fun at Kirk, he brushed off the parody
(02:31):
when asked about it during an interview and said, we
as conservatives need to be able to take a joke.
We shouldn't take ourselves so seriously. The Packers are the
first team to be two to zero. You're in the
NFL early season. Green Bay took down the Commanders last night,
twenty seven eighteen at lambeau Field. Week two rolls on
with several key matchups Sunday, including the Giants and Cowboys
squaring off in Dallas. The Bears and Lions are tangling
(02:52):
in an NFC North matchup from Detroit, and a Super
Bowl fifty nine rematch has the defending champion Eagles and
runner up Chiefs battle in Kansas City. Sunday Night football
has the Vikings hosting the Falcons. I see you, little
silhouetto of a man. So you're walking down the streets
(03:19):
of Paris or dining on a cafe patio, and suddenly
a flash mob performance of Bohemian Rhapsody breaks out. That's
exactly what happened recently on a city block, and the
video has gone viral since it was posted earlier this week.
The video begins with three female singers and a male
singer opening upstairs windows and performing the opening verse. Then
they're joined by pianist Julian Cohen with a piano in
(03:41):
the middle of the square. Lead singer Mickey Castillo arrives
on a carriage, and other singers and musicians join in,
including eleven year old guitarist Ali Pearson for the famous
vocal interlude. More windows open and more singers appear. The video,
which is on Cohen's YouTube page, already has more than
two million views in the first two days. The performance
marked the fiftieth anniversary of when Queen began recording the
(04:02):
epic song of Chris Gragio.
