latest use this hour. In just four minutes. At least
fifty people are dead across the Caribbean after a battering
from Hurricane Melissa. The majority of the deaths coming from
floods in Haiti. Death tolls are expected to rise as
search and rescue efforts continue in places like Jamaica and Cuba.

The storm is making its closest approach to Bermuda overnight,
with winds of ninety miles per hour, making it a
Category one storm. Vice President Jade Vance says more delays
and issues at airports will happen if the government remains
shut down. Speaking outside the White House, Advance said he's
concerned about vital workers like air traffic controllers, missing paychecks
and losing them to another industry.

I worry about the people who are scanning their bags
and making us get through the security line. I worry
they're not getting paychecks.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
They're starting to get worried about how to feed their
families and how to pay schools, wish and everything else.
The Vice President called on Democrats to come to the
table to end the shutdown. Bansid Republicans are ready to
negotiate on any issue Democrats are concerned about. The government's
shutdown will continue until at least Monday. The Senate adjourned
on Thursday and won't meet again until after the weekend.
There continues to be no clear end in sight, as

millions of low income Americans will soon feel the pain
of the shutdown. The food stamps benefit known as SNAP,
expires on Saturday for roughly forty two million people. In
the US, efforts to fast track a bill seeking to
end daylight saving time are being stalled in Congress. Tammy
Trujillo explains.

To Florida Republican law makers reintroduce the Sunshine Protection Act
earlier this year. It would put power in the hands
of states to determine the fate of the bi annual
changing of the clocks in the US. The bill received
bipartisan support a committee hearing, and it even advanced, but
Senator Tom Cotton thwarted the effort by noting the complicated
history of permanent daylight saving time in the nation. Several

states are already considering legislation to stop changing the clocks,
but efforts are largely split between permanent daylight saving time

Nome is rejecting Governor Pritzker's request to suspend federal immigration
enforcement operations in the Chicago area over Halloween weekend. Nome

said they aren't pausing any work they do to keep
communities safe. The fact that Governor Pritzker is asking for
that is.

Shameful and I think unfortunate that he doesn't recognize how
important the work is that we do to make sure
we're bringing criminals to justice.

Pritzker made the pola in a letter to Nome, saying
Illinois families deserve to spend Halloween weekend without fear. The
letter follows reports that federal ations deployed tear gas during
a children's parade this past weekend on the northwest side
of Chicago. Marjorie Taylor Green is set for an upcoming
appearance on ABC's The View. According to an announcement from
co host Whoopi Goldberg, the Republican congresswoman, will visit the

morning talk show on November fourth, which marks election Day.
While Green's appearance on the program falls on election Day,
she won't be up for re election in Georgia until
the twenty twenty six midterms. News of Green's visit comes
after a recent admission by the host that they'd like
to have more Republican guests, but often have their invitations declined.
South Park is releasing a new episode on Halloween. As

former law enforcement officers are among twenty charges in a
drug trafficking sting in Mississippi and Tennessee. Two of the
defendants are Mississippi sheriffs. Some of the officers are accused
of accept apting bribes to allow the transport of drugs
